(great fun)
『First, to those of you that are upset that this isn't widescreen, let me say that is because it wasn't filmed in widescreen until season 4. They would have to cut the tops/bottoms off the images to do that (you could just do that with your own remote, if you wanted). In fact, most TV shows weren't filmed in widescreen until recently.

I will also note that I have several TV series, and have yet to find any of them with subtitles available. Yes, maybe that would be a nice touch, but, yes, it surely would increase costs.

I have the original DVDs, so I can't review this newer set, and since I see some are saying the audio is messed up now, I will pass. I did stick my DVDs into DVD cases that hold 6 disks each, so that helped a tad on space.

Also, note, to those with youngsters in the room, there are some scenes that parental guidance is strongly suggested (this was a cable show, after all).

This show had been reportedly canceled because the Henson company and SciFi (at the time) couldn't agree on a new contract. A shame, as season 4 was one of their best-rated years. Ahhh, what do they say about the love of money? heh』

(Great show but a few things missing on the Series box set)
『I love this show. It's a mix of everything rolled into one. Action, Great Drama, Great actors, bizarro aliens, living ships, torture, sex, and off beat writing that propel this above most Sci Fi shows, like Trek, where everyone gets along all the time and everythign turns out fine at the end of the hour.

My only beef is, and it is not with the show but the Series box set. No closed captions for the hearing impared and no booklet with an episode guide. A nice Moya figuring collectible would have been nice too.
So, buy the show because its great but don't expect a lot from the packaging.』

(Why Are Subtitles a Problem)
『I would love to buy this series, but I come from a bilingual (actually trilingual) household. My wife doesn't have a complete knowledge of English and so we only buy DVDs with Spanish subtitles in them. Now, there have to be other people in the US/Region 1 who do not speak English and regularly use subtitles or alternative audio on DVDs. So what's so difficult about including this simple option.

This feature, or lack thereof, is a deal breaker for me which is why I give the Complete Series only a single star.』

(Great Stuff)
『I you are considering this purchase, I don't need to tell you what a great purchase this will be. I will tell you that the box design is strange, once opened to find disc one you need to look behind the inserts on the backside of the front cover. Really strange packaging.... you are going to think you don't have disk one, but it is there....』

(* FARSCAPE IS GREAT! *)
『I am happy to own this.I have never seen all of them, only have watched the first 8 episodes of season 1,at this time. That was enough for me to know I would love it.I think it is a wonderful show.I think the puppet characters are wonderful, without them it would not be Farscape.I must admit,I did buy my set online from BB,however,it DID NOT include Peacekeeper Wars.So I purchased Peacekeeper Wars from Amazon.Farscape - Complete Series and Peacekeeper Wars ,a must own for any true fan.I know I will enjoy watching mine.』
『John Crichton. Astronaut. Flung through a wormhole and lost in a galaxy far from home. He finds himself in the middle of a prison break, surrounded by hostile aliens, soaring through space inside a glorious living space ship called Moya. Hunted by the relentless Peacekeepers, he allies himself with his unimaginably alien fellow refugees and searches for a way home.

So begins the epic sci-fi classic Farscape. A fusion of live action, state-of-the-art puppetry, prosthetics and CGI, Farscape features mind-boggling alien life forms, dazzling special effects, edge-of-your-seat thrills, irreverent humor and unforgettable characters— all brought to life by the creative minds at Jim Henson's Creature Shop. No wonder it's been called the most imaginative sci-fi series in television history.

Here, in time for the series' tenth anniversary, are all four Farscape seasons, 88 episodes, together for the first time in one epic collection. These are the adventures of Moya's crew— Crichton, Peacekeeper Aeryn Sun, warrior Ka D'Argo, azure priestess Zhaan, spritely thief Chiana, Dominar Rigel, Pilot and many others. Like Moya herself, this package contains amazing surprises including hours of bonus materials, making-of featurettes, commentaries, interviews, deleted scenes and much more. Prepare for Starburst!

(Classic Television)
『I am so impressed with the Dr. Who series. It is great family fun. There is enough action to keep children and teens interested, as well as some creepy bits, and plenty of thoughtful issues to chew on as well. The actors in each of the series are fantastic, as is the story writing, directing, special effects, props,I could go on like this for some time. Watch it, this is TV at its best.』

(One of the best purchases I've made!)
『Living in the US makes catching Doctor Who episodes something of a hit-or-miss ordeal, so I finally broke down and bought the DVDs. They are well packaged, the episode guides are well thought out, and the image quality is great! No issues with messed up discs; I bought S1-S4 when I ordered and out of 23 discs, only 2 had minor scratches and play without issue.

Highly recommended for anyone who likes Sci-Fi; esp. those with kids. My niece and I have spent many an hour watching Doctor Who together laughing and it's a great way to spend a little time together in this crazy busy world with some quality entertainment.

You can't go wrong: Quality programming, well organized DVD set, and great for the whole family!』

(Great Item)
『David Tennant portrayal of the Doctor transcends simply the sci fi genre. "Blink" is at home in the thriller/horror category. The extras are great.』

(More Peaks than Valleys)
『Series three maintains mostly strong writing, great acting, and the usual social commentary while just avoiding earning the sanctimonious and preachy mantle. It showcases the new companion, Martha Jones. Davies and Co. took the Rose / Doctor story as far as it could go without savaging Doctor Who tradition with a mismatched romance.

Martha is smart without being overbearing and caring without being effusive. Others called her "weak", but the number of times the Doctor had to count on her to save him were too many to detail here. Her enthusiasm, intelligence and understandable obsession with unraveling and perhaps healing this Doctor's secret pain is played out in a thoroughly likable character. Freema Agyeman had the challenge of portraying the first nonwhite regular companion and replacing a very popular companion who had a very strong storyline. She has an artistic range, depth and charisma to match David Tennant and Billie Piper. I hope those who can't appreciate her obvious talent learn to broaden their viewpoint.

Uneven writing throughout the season was the trouble, but with more highs than not: Lows - Martha's unrequited feelings get real old real fast. Highs - Tennant is great as the Doctor, throwing himself into the role with joy, skill and passion.

"Gridlock," was one of my favorites episodes. The idea of living one's life in a car resonates very deeply with me (I drive for a living)! And Cats were redeemed in this return to New new new etc... York. The hymn sung at the end was quite moving.

The Daleks' return was a pointless two-parter. Nothing new offered except one plot twist that works into season 4's story arc.

"Human Nature" and "Fanily of Blood" were only okay for me, It was a bit too much of a paean to our "demi-god" Time Lord, especially at the end when he exacts vengeance on The Family. John Smith was such a product of his time, he became too dense, annoying and narrow-minded to be tolerable for long. I really couldn't wait for that fob watch to open. The performances all around were excellent, but it was too much Masterpiece Theatre and not enough Doctor.

While "Blink" was a nice break from the usual, it did get caught up in its own hipness and smartness at times.

The Highlight was the three-part season finale. For those who found it "implausible", I'd ask, how many Doctor Who stories are actually "plausible"? Doctor Who has always been long on Camp and imagination, but short on Science! A good story with actors chewing scenery (both John Simm and Derek Jacobi are outstanding), is the whole point! The tension holds up right until the end. There are some minor plot holes and strained moments, but it was totally satisfying overall. And John Barrowman's return as Captain Jack was priceless!

Also: The Doctor Who Confidential episodes (Bonus Disk) are lacking. The full versions are badly needed. Please, can someone get these on DVD in their entirety?』

(Wow)
『Having seen the other three series I wasn't sure if this series would live up to my expectations, but it has and I'm very glad I bought it!』
『The third installment of Doctor Who is full of new thrills, new laughs, new heartbreak and some terrifying new monsters. From the moment the Doctor walks into the life of medical student Martha Jones he changes it forever. In Elizabethan London, they meet William Shakespeare at the Globe Theatre while back in present day London, 76-year-old Professor Lazarus recaptures his youth with consequences that threaten Martha's entire family. And, the Doctor's sworn enemies, the Daleks, who have been hiding in 1930's New York, return with a terrifying plan for humanity.』
Doctor Whofans concerned that the departure of popular companion Rose (Billie Piper) at the end of the second season might spell an end to the venerable UK science fiction series' revival were soon reassured by the program's third series, which is compiled in its entirety in this six-disc set. Not only did Freema Agyeman (as Earth doctor Martha Jones) prove to be more than a worthwhile replacement for Rose, but the quality of the series' 14 episodes maintained--and in many cases surpassed--the blend of wit, excitement and drama brought by head writer Russell T. Jones when he revived the program in 2003. Highlights from the third series include the Christmas special "The Runaway Bride" (starring comedian Catherine Tate as a temporary companion to the Doctor as he mourns the loss of Rose), "Gridlock" (the Face of Boe summons the Doctor and Martha to a future New York City to stop an invasion by his old enemy the Macra), "Human Nature" and "The Family of Blood" (a two-part serial in which the Doctor changes his biological form to escape the clutches of an alien brood who seek his immortality), and the three-part "Utopia," "The Sound of Drums" and "The Last of the Time Lords," which not only revives the Doctor's greatest adversary, The Master (played by Derek Jacobi in "Utopia" and John Simm in "Drums" and "Time Lords") but also revives Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) and introduces his new position with theTorchwoodteam. Supplemental features are included on each of the six discs in the set; chief among them are commentary by Jones, Tennant, Agyeman, producer Phil Collinson, and members of the writing and production team (in various permutations) on each of the 14 episodes. TheDoctor Who Confidentialseries, which aired on BBC Three and offered behind-the-scenes looks at elements from each episode, is included in its 15-minute "cut down" version (as well as an hour-long episode that covered a live performance of music from the show by the National Orchestra of Wales and hosted by Tennant), as are several video diaries shot by Tennant, who proves as engaging behind the camera as he is on the show. A smattering of deleted scenes, outtakes (mostly featuring Tennant reacting good-naturedly to his own blown lines), BBC promos for all 13 episodes (including the amusing "Vote Saxon" spot, which offers Sharon Osbourne and UK pop stars McFly throwing their support behind the Master's disguise as a human MP in the series' final two episodes), and trailers for other BBC series likeJekyll,Torchwood, andMI-5, round out this terrific set.-- Paul Gaita

(Great for people who didn't get the previous sets)
『While the previous review was correct that the special features, remastering, audio and video are identical in this new release (including the fold out of the classic village map) there are a couple of things this version of the Prisoner Megaset has that others don't, but should have had from the get go. The first advantage is this collection has the disk collected in ten slim line cases, which cuts down on your shelf space considerably compared to previous releases and their full sized DVD cases. Also this release has a pretty extensive PRINTED episode guide booklet that gives more than just a synopsis. You also get a little history of the making of that episode.

Now these extras may not be worth the double dipping for those who already bought the previous sets, but for those who never took the plunge now is the time. Not only do you get the great features from the original set, but also stuff you can read and enjoy without having to put a disk in your player. I give the higher rating for this set, which is a more complete and more compact set than all the rest (minus one for not getting it right the first time).』

(A&E should be ashamed of itself for deceiving the people)
『Let's say you're a business that already has made a wonderful "40th Anniversary Version" of a DVD set with all the bells and whistles... now why should you then be allowed to create a different version of the same thing only a few years later?

A&E should be ashamed of themselves for doing what everyone lately is now doing: they've realized that (most) of the DVD buying public will buy ANYTHING if you re-package it as a "Special Collection," or a "Ultimate Collection," "Director's Cut," "Unrated Cut" or "Extended Cut."

But in the case of "The Prisoner: The Complete Series Megaset (Collector's Edition)," we are seeing the "40th Anniversary Set", just with new packaging.

I have been surfing around as of late and have found NOTHING to describe to me what's included in the "new" package.

Any new interviews? I don't know.
Any new lost footage? I don't know.
Any kind of newer extras not on the "Anniversary version"? I don't know.
Any other information anywhere online about what's on it at all? I don't know.
Remastered? They were the first time around.
Blu-Ray? Yes, but this could have been done with the same package.

You see where I'm going here. To quote the A&E website, who is also selling it, they are only saying "Within this complete 17-episode set, all is revealed. Or is it?"

Now what kind of garbagey pap is that? What's the technical end? What's included that is different from what's already out there? It makes me wonder why they even needed to remake a "Collector's Set" in the first place.

It is essentially the "40th Anniversary" DVD box set, just repackaged with a new set of covers. As far as I can see from the item descriptions of both sets IT'S THE SAME ITEM THEY SOLD TO US A FEW YEARS BACK.

To be honest, I was happy with that set as it fed my obsession, and I thought there was nowhere else to go with it. SEE FOR YOURSELF!...

Same running time, same number of discs!

This only leads me to CONCLUDE that they are neither adding nor subtracting anything to this release except to repackage a horse that's been in the corral for over 3 years. But the question remains: Why are they doing this?

Well, it's simple: to sell DVD sets to lots of naive customers who didn't know the "Anniversary Set" exists and then buy essentially the SAME ITEM at a higher price!

Used box sets of the "40th" are pretty cheap right now, so why buy the redesigned package? - except to make A&E a few dollars more. Oh, and it's no small coincidence that they are releasing it about the same time as the upcoming AMC series "Prisoner" reboot.

This is sad, and once again, A&E should be ashamed of themselves.

And, to sidebar a moment about that new series...

Now, even though Ian McKellen has been chosen to play Number Two (and that's okay), how can anyone justify American actor Jim Caviezel as Number Six when we all know this was a British actor's dream role?

I really can't really name a movie or show he's been in where he impressed me EXCEPT for his performance in "Frequency," which according to the IMDB website, is all he's ever done in the sci-fi realm.

I guess I'm picky when it comes to my choice of The Prisoner, because you would think they'd put someone in there with a backbone - and DOESN'T CRY IN EVERY SINGLE ROLE HE'S BEEN IN. This potentially sounds HORRIBLE.

I say give me Clive Owen, he seems sullen enough, and he proved to me he could tackle the complexities of sci-fi in his dazzling role in "Children of Men."

(Back to the DVD review, as I'm digressing too much here... but to get a bit personal now...)

Cash is king and AMC and A&E are warming their collective hands over the bones of the highly-protective-of-the-series Patrick McGoohan, whom they waited patiently until he died so that they could then start mining his show that he created and wanted left untouched.

And to be honest, there are more than a few of us who'd also like to leave this kept pure as well. No, we didn't need a remake or a reboot, and there are SO many people I know who've asked why do it at all?

The release of this DVD set only goes to show me integrity, like clothing, can be shed for the right price, and AMC and A&E will NEVER receive another consumer dollar from ME.

Once again, since there are no technical details available anywhere except from what I found on this very website, I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to assume that it's the same set just re-packged to deceive people, and because of that I'm giving this one star.

THERE IS NO INFORMATION AVAILABLE ABOUT WHAT'S ON IT THAT'S NEW, so why award a company clearly out for profit?

For the last time, and I'll be honest, it won't be the last time for me... A&E should BE ASHAMED OF ITSELF for doing this.

I'm going to tell everyone I know to watch out for this deception AND NOT BUY THIS SET until I mysteriously vanish or this review is deleted, and since I'm the first one here to voice my dissention, I'll be on some faraway island soon enough, assigned a number, and then be forced to watch Jim Caviezel cry.

Thanks for reading, and before I mysteriously die or vanish, read my other reviews and find out the truth for yoursel================================』

『If a top-level spy decided he didn't want to be a spy anymore, could he just walk into HQ and hand in his resignation? With all that classified knowledge in his head, would he be allowed to become a civilian again, free to go about his life? The answer, according to the stylish, brilliantly conceived 1960s British TV seriesThe Prisoner, is a resounding no. In fact, instead of receiving a gold watch for his years of faithful service, our hero (played by Patrick McGoohan) is followed home to his London flat and knocked unconscious. When he awakens, he finds himself in a picturesque village where everyone is known by a number. Where is it? Why was he brought here? And, most important, how does he leave?

As we learn in Episode 1, Number 6 can't leave. The Village's "citizens" might dress colorfully and stroll around its manicured gardens while a band plays bouncy Strauss marches, but the place is actually a prison. Surveillance is near total, and if all else fails, there's always the large, mysterious white ball that subdues potential escapees by temporarily smothering them. Who runs the Village? An ever-changing Number 2, who wants to know why Number 6 resigned. If he'd only cooperate, he's told, life can be made very pleasant. "I've resigned," he fumes. "I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, or numbered. My life is my own." So sets the stage for the ultimate battle of wills: Number 6's struggle to retain his privacy, sanity, and individuality against the array of psychological and physical methods the Village uses to break him.

So does he ever escape? And does he ever find out who Number 1 is? "Questions are a burden to others," the Village saying goes. "Answers, a prison for oneself." Within this complete 17-episode set, all is revealed. Or is it?--Steve Landau

Also on the discs
The 2009 Collector's Edition has the same video content as the 2006 40th Anniversary Edition, but does not include the booklet or paper map. (This is a BLU-RAY REVIEW ONLY!!!! (from public domain to blu-ray WOW!, it was worth the wait(explained))!!!)
『This 1946 CLASSIC FILM copy write expired and went to the Public Domain library. For years on VHS a very poor copy was available. But the film was sooooo good we endured the poor quality for the "WONDERFUL LIFE's" message was heard loud and clear.

NOW for the FIRST time it has been brought up to the Blu-ray HD (1080p). With the HD Home Theater (BIG SCREEN) w/Dolby Digital sound I', telling you this movie is NOW THE WAY IT WAS MENT TO BE SEEN IN THE MOVIE THEATER in 1946!!! (Better then the original 35mm prints).

BONUS: This Blu-ray (2 disc set) Edition includes 2 HD versions of this MUST HAVE Movie. Disc 1. - The COLORIZED version (my favorite version, especially in HD. The color adds to the grand detail of the clarity ie. Jimmy Stewarts tweed jacket.
On the big Home Theater screen you won't believe how Wonderful the picture is!!!!
And the sound is awesome!!!!

Disc 2 - Is the Original Black&White version. A very good but much darker version which in my opinion mutes the HD details. Still this HD Classic film delivers. All extra features are also on this disc.

NOTE: This Blu-ray edition includes all the extras of the Standard DVD version.

BOTTOMLINE: THIS MOVIE IS A MUST HAVE. BELIEVE ME, YOU and YOUR FAMILY WILL BE TOTALLY DELIGHTED and Pleased to see and hear for the first time what a "WONDERFUL LIFE" this was and is!!!! ENJOY!!!』

(Blu-ray version looks great!)
『The newly-released blu ray version of the film looks wonderful - great contrasts, very clear picture, especially in the B&W version. (The disc comes with both the color and B&W versions). The picture is in its original aspect ratio 1.33:1, so it is shown in pillarbox (black bars on the sides of the display). The true videophiles will appreciate that nothing was cropped from the original image.』

(Need a sixth star for this movie;)
『In my view there are three really great movies:
1) Wonderful Life - especially this newly re-worked version in color
(ohhhhhhh........ Donna Reed as a young girl........ what a dream !!)
(Much like the woman I married :) )
2) Gone With the Wind - Scarlette my love !
.
Life is very hard and painful for a lot of people in the US today
and because the US middle class has been gutted they have no money
to buy the things developing countries make and the crisis
is worse in those countries as a result.
.
However, there is always having faith in God as a choice (yes or no).
It's always a choice......... essentially "to be" or..... "not to be".
These are the same choice.
When we have nothing else but faith which enables the possibility of hope
then we have nothing else and nothing else.
.
It's that simple.

『George Bailey has so many problems he is thinking about ending it all– and it’s Christmas! As the angels discuss George, we see his life in flashback. As George is about to jump from a bridge, he ends up rescuing his guardian angel, Clarence. Clarence then shows George what his town would have looked like if it hadn’t been for all of his good deeds over the years. Will Clarence be able to convince George to return to his family and forget suicide?』
『Now perhaps the most beloved American film,It's a Wonderful Lifewas largely forgotten for years, due to a copyright quirk. Only in the late 1970s did it find its audience through repeated TV showings. Frank Capra's masterwork deserves its status as a feel-good communal event, but it is also one of the most fascinating films in the American cinema, a multilayered work of Dickensian density. George Bailey (played superbly by James Stewart) grows up in the small town of Bedford Falls, dreaming dreams of adventure and travel, but circumstances conspire to keep him enslaved to his home turf. Frustrated by his life, and haunted by an impending scandal, George prepares to commit suicide on Christmas Eve. A heavenly messenger (Henry Travers) arrives to show him a vision: what the world would have been like if George had never been born. The sequence is a vivid depiction of the American Dream gone bad, and probably the wildest thing Capra ever shot (the director's optimistic vision may have darkened during his experiences making military films in World War II). Capra's triumph is to acknowledge the difficulties and disappointments of life, while affirming--in the teary-eyed final reel--his cherished values of friendship and individual achievement. It's a Wonderful Lifewas not a big hit on its initial release, and it won no Oscars (Capra and Stewart were nominated); but it continues to weave a special magic.--Robert Horton

(Doctor Who Series Two--"Who The 'Ell Are You??!?")
『It always struck me that Christopher Eccelston's Christmas Day interview with the BBC in 2005--the day that "Doctor Who" was rebooted for the 21st century--was ironic. He knew, because the complete first season was shot, that he wasn't coming back; which was why his mention of the Doctor's ability to regenerate was so...telling...
But maybe Chris also had a clue about the coming storm that was David Tennant.
Tennant's Doctor--Ten, as other reviewers refer to him--spiritually does connect back to Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor, but David captures a joy in his Doctor that Baker didn't seem to have. Both their Doctors seem to understand the "stream of thought" concept in line delivery that captures the TimeLord's essence...but Tennant has a fun with his interpretation that Baker either wasn't allowed or couldn't express in his 1974-1981 run. As a result, David pushes the envelope from where Eccelston had the Doctor at the end of his run. While being far more joyful, Tennant also seems to capture the core sadness and anger of The Doctor, and those moments seems starker and more striking when they occur.
Because Russell T. Davies allows Ten to be more of a romantic, there are some stunning moments through the season. In many ways, "School Reunion" and "The Girl In The Fireplace" plays as a two-part episode. "School Reunion" brings Elisabeth Sladen back to the Whoniverse as The Doctor's former companion, Sarah Jane Smith, and allows for a discussion--aside from the main storyline--that the previous run of Doctor Who might not have broached. The scene in which Sarah Jane, sneaking through the school at night, discovers the TARDIS, and then turns to find Tennant and realizes who he is--is joyous, but quickly turns heartbreaking when Sarah Jane vents at The Doctor for leaving her...which in turn, makes The Doctor talk about his reality--that he loses those he cares about, no matter what. This is a theme that plays out in "The Girl In The Fireplace", where the TimeLord develops a strong attraction to Sophia Myles' Madame de Pompadour (Tennant's great line after Myles kisses him--"I just snogged Madame de Pompadour!!!"--is a wonderful kick).
Tennant's interpretation of The Doctor is a wonderful match for Billie Piper's Rose Tyler. Watching the Doctor grow closer to Rose--we understand his reluctance, but she won't deny her feelings--is marvelous. Camille Coduri's Jackie Tyler is scattered and charming, and Noel Clarke's Mickey Smith matures courageously and sadly through the series--Mickey comes to accept Rose's attraction to The Doctor, but also comes to grip with larger responsibilities in "Rise Of The Cybermen" and "The Age Of Steel" that give him a place and purpose.
This box set is about the line that opens--and closes--this season, which is why this review is titled as such. From the opening to the Daleks/Cybermen smackdown that finishes the season in "Army Of Ghosts" and "Doomsday", this season allows for a more thorough introduction to The Doctor and his world, allows longtime viewers to see the heart (Hearts, since he has two) of the preeminent character in British Science Fiction. Though there will always be an element of mystery clouding The Doctor, Davies and Tennant allow us to see more of the TimeLord than we've seen over the years...his strength, his humor, his devotion to life and this planet...in short, a greater understanding of "who the 'ell he is...", and this is continued in Tennant's run in Seasons Three and Four. This set--highly recommended.』

(The Best Ever)
『In my view this is the single best season of Dr. Who. I know that's saying a lot - and I know a lot of people would disagree with me. It's pointless to say all the stories in Series 2 are great - because virtually all Dr. Who episodes from all the seasons are great. I think, more than anything else, it's the character of Rose Tyler that puts this season over the top. She was great in Series 1; but she's almost sublime in Series 2. Plus, this season contains the single most poignant story in the entire Dr. Who repetoire. Though I agree with Colin Baker, who reportedly said that "The Empty Child" (from Series 1) is just about the best Dr. Who episode; to me "The Girl In The Fireplace" from Series 2 is the most poignant. It's far from the best Dr. Who; the alien menace is almost comical in the way that some of the aliens from the earliest Dr. Who episodes were; and the story line does seem stretched a bit. But there's something so almost magical about the episode, and so unexpectedly sad about the ending. You get the feeling that if Dr. Who could have chosen a true soul-mate from among all the women he had ever encountered, it would have been this "Girl In The Fireplace." And the two-part episode "The Satan Pit" shows the depth of the bond between The Doctor and Rose more succinctly than any other episode; he is willing to place his life entirely in her hands - that's how much he's come to trust her instinct for doing the right thing. Then the season finale, another two-part episode, brings their relationship full circle. It, too, is one of the most poignant Doctor Who episodes - and one of the most innovative, pitting two of the Doctor's greatest enemies against themselves as well as against the world. All in all, this season is nearly perfect.』

(New, new Doctor, new, new fun)
『David Tennant's first series as the doctor proves a worthy follow-up to Eccleston. Geeky and manic, Tennant's energetic Doctor is quite possibly the most charismatic to date. Billie Piper returns as Rose and together, they take on some new monsters and old foes. Every story's a winner in this season, ranging from Daleks vs. Cyber-men, to the return of K9, to battling the Devil himself. While new viewers can easily pick up from here, this series will especially please fans of the old series. And don't forget, there's also a plethora of great special features, most notably some fantastic deleted scenes.』

(The Best 10th Doctor ( Tennat) series of all, a Must !!!!)
『This Box set features the debut of David Tennat as The Tenth Doctor and all episodes are great!!! al 13 episdoes are good solid fun!!! the best Debut of any Doctor in the series.
The Team up with Rose is as great as Tom Baker - Sara Jane was in the 70's, and she is back!
even the Confidential is great here, if you like David as the Doctor, this is a must have...』

(Amazing love story)
『I like season two because of the love story between Rose and the Doctor, ending with Ghost plane and Doomsday.

Season two is symetric. It start with the creation of torchwood and ends with torchwood opening the portal too the parallel earth allowing the cyberman and void sphere to breach the current earth.

The love tradegy was amazing. I was very surprised to see the quality of the story.』

『Can Rose trust a man with a new face? David Tennant (Viva Blackpool, Harry Potter) steps into the role of the Doctor, now in his 10th incarnation. Following on from the phenomenal success of the first series, the second series is full of more thrills, more laughs, more heartbreak and some terrifying new aliens and old acquaintances. The Doctor and Rose meet Queen Victoria, an evil race of Cat Women, K9 and Sarah Jane, and the dreaded Cybermen.

『Christopher Eccleston's tenure as the time-traveling title hero in the venerable UK sci-fi seriesDoctor Wholasted just 13 episodes, but he left enough of a impression on fans to make some wonder how his replacement, veteran television performer David Tennant, might fare in the role. As this second-series boxed set proves, the answer is: he's a near-perfect Doctor who combines the eccentricities of earlier incarnations (most notably Tom Baker) with a fresh and youthful interpretation of his own, and even brings a healthy dash of romantic chemistry with his sidekick, Rose Tyler (the equally charming Billie Piper). And their adventures retain the solid blend of thoughtful speculative fiction, pulp action, and quirky humor that typified the series at its best. Among the 15 terrific stories contained in the six-disc set are the "Children in Need" (a.k.a. "Pudsey Cutaway") mini-episode from the 2005 Children in Need telethon that showed Eccleston's transformation into Tennant; "School Reunion," in which Elisabeth Sladen returns as Sarah Jane Smith; "The Girl in the Fireplace," which draws together robots in 18th century France with a derelict space station in the distant future; and the season finale, "Army of Ghosts/Doomsday," which not only revives the series' most popular villains, the robotic Daleks, in a head-to-head struggle against the Cybermen, but also marks the final appearance of another series regular. For fans and first-time visitors to the TARDIS alike, the Second Series is simply thrilling sci-fi TV.

As with the First Series set, the supplemental features are plentiful here; commentary by the show's cast and crew is provided on each episode, and four feature picture-in-picture commentary tracks; deleted scenes and outtakes are also included, as are video diaries by Tennant and Piper, and a lengthy featurette, "Doctor Who Confidential," which covers nearly every aspect of the series' production, including the introduction of the Torchwood Institute and the return of Sarah Jane, both of which would be featured in their own respective spin-off series (the first inDoctor Who's long history) in 2007.– Paul Gaita

(Feed them to the Rancor!)
『I love the original Star Wars trilogy. It represented everything great about movies that was possible. These prequals made me sick. Beyond annoying characters such as the cheezy battle droids running around saying dumb phrases like"roger, roger,",Jar Jar Binx and the gungans(No explanation needed),Hadyn Christiansen who is worse than a horrible actor, and scripts and an atmosphere that made you feel like you were not watching a Star Wars movie. And to top it off the second movie is about as bad as any chick flick out there. How could they possibly sink this low with a love story this poorly done with worse than high school acting. A Star Wars chick flick? YUCK! Nothing new or revolutionary came from these movies. What good things people had to say about the special effects looked like a video game. Especially the ship battles. The original Star Wars film in 1977 looks a million times more realistic and is timeless. I really hate these movies because I love Star Wars and these are not even close to being Star Wars movies!』

(Finally! A Prequel boxset!)
『I was sad to part with my Phantom Menace DVD, which was probably one of the first DVD films I purchased, but when I saw that this space-saving boxset was coming out, I sold my TPM/AOTC/ROTS films and opted for this slimmer option. Overall, everything is the same - no new deleted scenes or anything, just a nice visual companion to the un-altered Original Trilogy boxset that I've reviewed.』

(Star Wars Prequel Trilogy)
『All three 'Star Wars' prequel films are great: 'Revenge of the Sith' being the best in the trilogy. They are not as great as the original 'Star Wars' movies released in theaters decades ago, but each film is good enough to keep you very entertained and enterested in seeing what happened before Luke Skywalker began his adventure of becoming a jedi knight. The plot in the 'Star Wars' prequel trilogy is well written and easy to follow. It is very interesting to see events that pave the way to what is seen in the original 'Star Wars' trilogy. The special fx are visually empressive and the sound fx are excellent! The futuristic style/sci-fi battle scenes are stunning: thanks to the top of the line cgi and sound that were used to make each movie come to life. John Williams conducted an outstanding musical (score) for the 'Star Wars' prequel trilogy. It sounds just as good as the music in the original 'Star Wars' movies. The acting isn't the best I've seen, but stellar at best. Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, and Christopher Lee's performances shine the best throughout the trilogy (in my opinion). A lot of action, suspense, and dramatic sequences really enhance each of these well done films. If you don't already own the 'Star Wars' prequel trilogy then I recommend this box set. Each DVD offers outstanding quality and have interesting special features. Don't forget to purchase the original 'Star Wars' trilogy on DVD either.』

(Shrek with lightsabers?)
『These movies are terrible. Yoda looks like a short Shrek with a light saber. They made these movies with 3 actors and everything else is CGI. I was waiting for Woody and Buzz Lightyear to pop out. The story on the first two were completely useless, you could have told that entire story in 1 movie. The 3rd one was slightly better because it actually tells the story everyone wanted to see, how Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader, and you get to see Darth Vader for 1 whole minute. The first movie you get to see some kid accidentally saving a planet, and in the second a whining teenager rolling in the hills with Padme. These movies established 2 things, Jar-jar sucked, and Anakin is that kid in high school everyone makes fun of.』

(one of the best shows on tv)
『It is one of the best shows on tv. The price was very reasonable for the whole season. Seller was prompt in sending my order and the product waas in great shape. Recommend this seller to all!』

(More than Wow!)
『Not only was the cinematography outstanding, the few episodes I was able to see before buying the DVD's were not the true depth of the series. The writing and original story make this a sure fantasy / sci-fi favorite (and I'm picky). I am still very much impressed with the fact that this is a television series, that the actors do such an outstanding job, and the writing helps to lift the series rather than hinder it. Do you want a show that actually makes you say "wow" after an episode? Then watch it!』

『It is so good that I couldn't stop watching one after another.. I finished the whole season in 2 days!!』

(Chanced encounter with the Sword of Truth)
『I chanced upon the first episode of the first season thanks to late night channel surfing and insomnia, and right off the bat, I was HOOKED! I googled the show and came across the website for the show ([...]). Needless to say, I watched all the episodes in the first season within a span of 2 days! Having been a fan of Hercules and Xena the Warrior Princess (same team that brings you Legend of the Seeker), I am now an avid fan of this new series.

The episodes get better and better as the season wore on. The plots and twists really keep you glued to this series. I have not read the books, so I can't compare them, but the TV series is really awesome! I have just ordered the DVD for the first season and can't wait for it to arrive so that I can 're-live' the adventures again!

(Great Memories)
『What a fantastic dvd combo, Who could forget Mr. Hooper's Store. This brings back great memories when i saw how young Bob and Louise were. And Kermits News Flash , forgetful Jones . Sesame Street 40 years of great television.』

(Before Elmo was king)
『This DVD set was nostalgic and at times almost brought tears to my eyes. For those parts (The ladybug picnic, The pinball counting to 12, the cartoon typewriter, the cast iron "I", etc) I would give it ten stars. Sesame Street literally shaped my life as a young child. I watched it religously until age seven (I'm thirty-five now). The reason for my three star rating is because of the lengthy songs and dull skits, which unfortunately took most of the time. Leena Horne singing didn't do it for me at five and she especially doesn't do it for me now at thrity-five. Sorry, but same to you Diana Ross. I wanted to see more of the aliens ("yep, yep, yep...nope, nope, nope"), Bert and Ernie, Super Grover, and the Tiddly-winks (who were suspiciously absent).

Watching this DVD made me realize how they should now call Sesame Street, just plain Elmo's World. That's who it's really all about now anyway. I loved the good old days when ALL the characters received equal billing. Now it seems like the first forty minutes of Sesame Street is just filler until Elmo, the big star, shows up. Don't get me wrong, I like Elmo, and so do my three little ones, but all the other characters have their own personalities and ability to teach as well. This DVD is a reminder of that.

So CTW if you're reading this, I would buy every single episode of Sesame Street from 1974-79 if you put it out on DVD. Stop teasing us with these short DVD releases showing only clips. To those of you who are thinking of purchasing this DVD set, I would get it, it is worth it. You're sure to see something that will bring back a memory.

(Definitely NOT Old School.......)
『I am/was a fan of Sesame Street, was born in 1971 and followed much of the show up until about 1980. As the Old School sets were released, I purchased them, and although they are not perfect by any means, they are a great look back at much of what made the show so magical. When I first learned about this DVD I was a bit hesitant thinking it would be repeating much of what is shown on the first 2 "Old School" sets, but because there were some segments that I felt the Old School sets were missing(The "O" song, Lowercase n and a few others), I thought I would give it a try. Well, sad to say, the first disc 1969-1989 is basically the best of the old school dvds crammed into one disc, sure there are some "new" segments, but much more that I would like to forget (Mr. Hooper surfing in Hawaii...was his back really that hairy?..some creepy Televisionmonster thing). So...if you are a fan of the Old School Sesame, then stick with the Old School sets, and skip this one. Hopefully they will eventually release complete seasons so we get to see ALL the good stuff.』

(Old School--Not so much. Roosevelt Franklin? Who was he again?)
『First, a proviso. I love Sesame Street. Love it. Or at least, I loved it from when I was a child--from its inception until approximately 1980. So, I write this review with a heavy heart.

Second, I was always looking for the Old School content on this DVD. I would rather Elmo and the post-racial rainbow kids had never been invented. Roosevelt Franklin, writers who met social, racial and class conditions head-on, the music of Joe Raposo--this is what I wanted.

How disappointing. There is a minimum of new material from the Old School DVD collections. And Joe Raposo's name is not even prominent (is it even mentioned?) in the book that accompanies the DVDs. I'll have to read it again, but Jon Stone is fronted and Raposo is definitely in the background.

Anyway, I'll just have to keep hoping that the marketing gurus at Sesame Wallet Project see fit in the future to release our childhood memories more systematically and completely. We trusted you. Now give us back what we invested in you!』

(What a wonderful DVD!)
『I grew up with Sesame Street, and now that my kids are 1 and 3, I'm falling in love with Sesame Street all over again. This is a fantastic DVD! It's literally packed with wonderful songs, ABCs, counting, story time - all the things myself and my parents loved about the show when I was little. My son's favorite characters are Ernie and Bert, and some of the stand-alone DVDs I've bought for him over the past year barely mention them. With over 5 hours of Sesame Street on this set, Ernie and Bert get a little more screen time.
It's a good value too - the individual DVDs are ten or more dollars for 30-45 minutes, and this HUGE set is only 20. I'm very happy with my purchase.』

『With over 5 hours of iconic moments, favorite songs, celebrity segments and exclusive never-before-seen backstage footage, this commemorative DVD Collection is a must own for every Sesame Street fan!』

(The Best Version of Dickens' Timeless Holiday Tale)
『This is the one "Scrooge" that I HAVE to watch every Christmas! It's a classic film, telling a classic story, and the adaptation is brilliant and near flawless. Alastair Sim gives an amazing performance, and all the other actors are gems, especially Kathleen Harrison as Mrs. Dilber, and Mervyn Johns as Bob Crachit. Michael Hordern is a superb Marley's Ghost, wailing and screaming enough to terrify Scrooge to shivering. The music is also an enormous asset, written by Richard Addinsell, and perfect for the film. See the film in black and white, turn on the original mono sound, and set it to the original 4x3 aspect ratio. Don't watch the widescreen version which crops the top and bottom of the original frame. They also have a 5.1 soundtrack, which is a false 5.1, and it should only be listened to in the original mono sound.』

(A Great Christmas Classic)
『This version of A Christmas Carol is the best all around film. The story and the cast are second to none and is a truly enjoyable Christmas Classic for any age.』

(Color, black and white, black and blue...great in any format!)
『I love this movie in its original black and white. My opinion, without doubt, the best of all the filmed CHRISTMAS CAROLS. Alastair Sim is the Scrooge for the ages. So the question is, does colorization make this film better or improve it in any way? The answer is no. It can't be improved because it's already perfect. But colorization certainly does add an element of fun in watching it after repeated b&w viewings. And if colorization gets younger viewers to watch this wonderful movie, than it's more than a gimmick. It's a tool to encourage those not familiar with the film classics to give them a look.
As far as the actual colorization goes, I really don't see much improvement in the process in all the years it's been around. Having said that, this film sort of lends itself to the process however because of the locale and nature of the storytelling so the faded, less than crisp colors don't detract from the picture and can almost seem like they might belong. More important than the colorization, is the added feature in this package of the widescreen presentation of the black and white version which looks terrific!
So if you are a fan of the movie and would like to see what it looks like colorized (and I admit I always do like to see the colorization of the classics just for the fun of it) or even if you would like to see the b&w version in widescreem (I'm really not sure how they achieved this cause it wasn't filmed in widescreen but looks here like it really was: no distortion or zoom-like cutoffs at all!) or if you are a collector of anything A CHRISTMAS CAROL, then I happily recommend this version to you. Happy Holidays!
PS: For us collectors of A CHRISTMAS CAROL, this packaging is pretty nifty, too!』

(Finally!)
『I've always enjoyed watching this movie broadcast each Christmas on local TV, but the last few years it was limited to PBS at midnight and then last year I was so disappointed to find it not broadcast at all! The movie is such a treasure and my favorite take on the Dicken's classic. Alistair Sim is perfect and no other actor lives up to his interpretation in my view. The digital remake here is excellent and much better than the quality that I've been watching on TV over the last three decades. I enjoy the black&white but for those who like the color, you get that too. A great deal here to watch year after year.』

(Worth purchasing, even with all the caveats)
『I've known this movie for most of my life, and have owned it on VHS, laserdisc, initial DVD releases and now this UCE. I can say without hesitation that this mastering is by far the best one I've ever seen. The picture is cleaned up considerably and is steady as a rock. The contrast and depth is the best ever, and the sound is also excellent. At the going rate of anywhere from $8-12USD, it's cheap and a good investment. You won't feel cheated by this purchase.

That said, I agree with the caveats others have voiced. To that, I would add that the English subtitles could have been better done. There are sync problems with some of them - some subtitles either appear too early or too late with the words being spoken on the screen. Also, some lines in the film have no subtitles at all. Worst, some of the subtitles are clearly wrong, and don't reflect what the actors are saying.

I'll give you two instances of this: in the book, Dickens mentions that after leaving his office, "Scrooge took his melancholy dinner in his usual melancholy tavern; and having read all the newspapers, and beguiled the rest of the evening with his banker's-book, went home to bed." This is expanded upon in the film: Scrooge is seen eating his dinner. A waiter passes by, and Scrooge asks him for "more bread." The waiter answers, " 's a hay-penny extra, sir" (ie: it's a half-penny extra, sir). Scrooge responds, "no more bread." The dialogue for this scene doesn't appear in Dicken's story and was obviously added to the film to show Scrooge for the miser that he is.

But the UCE gets the waiter's line wrong, translating it in the subtitles as "Take's me extra, sir"!

Say, wha???

The second example occurs when post-ghost visits, Scrooge awakens to Xmas morning, looks out his window and hails a boy running down the street. He instructs the boy to go to the butcher down the street and to purchase the prized turkey in the window. In Dickens' book, the boy replies, "Walk-er!" which was a slang term used in Dickens' time that meant that something wasn't true or wasn't going to happen, and that's what the child actor says in the film. Rather than subtitle the actual word the actor speaks, the subtitles give an approximation of what the slang term, "Walk-er," means. The word "Walker" appears as "won't occur" in the subtitles.

I guess there might be some logic to this example, but I would have preferred a subtitle that was literal. And, as most people don't watch English films with English subtitles, it won't be a distraction for most. I does suggest that the subtitles were done by listening to the voice track and deciphering what the actors were saying, rather than working from a script.

Still, it's very much worth buying this DVD set. VAi seems to put a new mastering of this film out once every 10-15 years, so this is the one collectors will have to live with for the foreseeable future.』

『Alastair Sim's tour-de-force performance as the ultimate miser, Ebenezer Scrooge, has almost single-handedly made this beloved version of Charles Dickens' story into one of the best-loved Christmas films of all time. Some of Britain's best filmmakers united behind Sim, who was joined by a delightful cast of accomplished and acclaimed English actors; creating what many today believe to be the best and most faithful production of Dickens' immortal tale. Cranky and curmudgeonly Scrooge learns the error of his unkind ways and is taught the true meaning of the holidays when he is visited by the ghost of his late business partner and the spirits of Christmas past, present and future.Bonus Features:Audio Commentary by Marcus Hearn&George Cole, "Spirit of Christmas Past" - George Cole remembers Alastair Sim, "Richard Gordon Remembers George Minter&Renown Pictures", "Charles Dickens - His Life&Times", Bonus Colorized Version, Original American Theatrical Trailer, Original British Theatrical Trailer, Before&After Restoration Comparison, Optional English&Spanish Subtitles, Optional Narrative for the Blind, Photo&Press Book Gallery, Cast Bios, "Scrooge" (1935 Seymour Hicks Version)Specs:2-DVD9s; Dolby Digital 5.1; 86 minutes; B&W / Color; Aspect Ratio: B&W Restored Version - 1.33:1; Optional 16x9 Enhanced for Widescreen Monitors; Colorized Version - 1.33:1; MPAA - NR; Year - 1951; SRP - $19.99.』
『This is the desert-island choice of the many versions ofA Christmas Carol, with a magnificent, full-bodied portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge by Alastair Sim that leaves everyone else in the dust. Lean and direct, this film's version of the story wastes no time trying to impress viewers with the magical nature of the spirits' visitations. Director Brian Desmond Hurst keeps the focus on Scrooge's life story, beautifully simplifying and underscoring the theme of lost women with a haunting musical refrain from the folk song "Barbara Allen." Sim's commitment to the role is at times astonishing; his Scrooge's Christmas-morning ecstasy is a marvel of giddy technique. Watch for Patrick Macnee (Steed inThe Avengers) as the young Jacob Marley--the actor made his screen debut in this 1951 production.--Tom Keogh

(Pretty good)
『I bought this movie in conjunction with the 2nd transformers movie (which was even better than the first). Both movies are very good and I would recommend them to anyone who likes action flicks because once the action starts it doesn't slow down very much through the whole movie. Also, if you like Shia labeouf, this is a good movie for you because he did a great job in it as well.』

(Good movie for fans, not a lot of depth)
『Let's face it. This is the sort of movie you watch because you liked the old cartoons, not because you are looking for something with much depth. It fulfils this role admirably well. There are also logical errors that pop up from time to time. For example, the comment about Megatron being brought to Hoover Dam in 1934 and the car being reverse engineered from him misses the fact that cars were around before 1934......

I enjoyed the movie, but it isn't one with a lot of replay value.』

(Transforming the turkey)
『"Transformers" is arguably the worst movie ever made, with the possible exception of "Plan 9 from Outer Space". Why do so many people take it so seriously? Do they have a crush on Sam's criminal girlfriend? Or on that blond woman with the funny accent? She sounds like Kylie Minogue! The fat Black guys were funny when dancing, but only for so long. Oh yes, there were some robots involved, as well. Did anyone notice?

The concept isn't bad (if you are 12 years old). Evil robot, good robot, the All Spark, hot teenage girl, secret government operations, hackers...

The execution, however, is lousy. Frankly, this must be the ultimate turkey movie. And who on earth is that chicken-eating cowboy who shows up all the time? The guy the Indians shoot at?

Oh, sorry, that was a Swedish TV commercial... My mistake.

The only redeeming feature of "Transformers" is the music. Could have worked in a real epic, about Ulysses or something. But otherwise, you need to be pretty low brow to find this even involuntarily funny.

Zero stars.

(Transformers)
『never got the damn movie from this idiot but i have seen the movie before and it is good action and a few laughs. it is not the best movie ive seen but woth owning』
『From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the heroic Autobots® and the evil Decepticons®. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the Decepticons® and ultimate power is a clue held by young Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). Unaware that he is mankind’s last chance for survival, Sam and Bumblebee, his robot disguised as a car, are in aheart-pounding race against an enemy unlike anything anyone has seen before. It’s the incredible, breath-taking film spectacular that USA Today says “will appeal to the kid in all of us.”』
『"I bought a car. Turned out to be an alien robot. Who knew?" deadpans Sam Witwicky, hero and human heart of Michael Bay's rollicking robot-smackdown fest,Transformers. Witwicky (the sweetly nerdy Shia LaBeouf, channeling a young John Cusack) is the perfect counterpoint to the nearly nonstop exhilarating action. The plot is simple: an alien civil war (the Autobots vs. the evil Decepticons) has spilled onto Earth, and young Sam is caught in the fray by his newly purchased souped-up Camaro. Which has a mind--and identity, as a noble-warrior robot named Bumblebee--of its own. The effects, especially the mind-blowing transformations of the robots into their earthly forms and back again, are stellar.

Fans of the earlier film and TV series will be thrilled at this cutting-edge incarnation, but this version should please all fans of high-adrenaline action. Director Bay gleefully salts the movie with homages to pop-culture touchstones likeRaiders of the Lost Ark,King Kong, and the early technothrillerWarGames. The actors, though clearly all supporting those kickass robots, are uniformly on-target, including the dashing Josh Duhamel as a U.S. Army sergeant fighting an enemy he never anticipated; Jon Voight, as a tough yet sympathetic Secretary of Defense in over his head; and John Turturro, whose special agent manages to be confidently unctuous, even stripped to his undies. But the film belongs to Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, and the dastardly Megatron--and the wicked stunts they collide in all over the globe. Long live Transformers! --A.T. Hurley

Film (and Charles Dickens) fans won't want to miss a single screen. The audio commentary by Marcus Hearn and George Cole adds depth and perspective to Sim's amazing performance, and the groundbreaking special effects for the time. Cole also gives a homey remembrance of working with Sim during World War II and living in the English countryside to avoid the Blitz.

One of the most compelling extras is a short bio of George Mintner, the film's executive producer who would go on to found his own successful distribution company, Renown Pictures. An unlikely film mogul, the British Mintner was shy and bookish, but managed to build a reputable mini-studio in the '50s, out of the Hollywood limelight. He produced mostly B-movies, though afterA Christmas Carol(originally titledScrooge), he produced another Dickens adaptation,The Pickwick Papers. There's a great mini-bio of Dickens, who grew up in the poverty that later fascinated him in his writings. Other extras include the colorized version (what were people thinking back in the '80s?), cast bios, original trailers, and a features that more film companies might want to consider, an optional narration for the blind. Nothing is left out for film fans--God bless us, every one.--A.T. Hurley
