『It was in way before it was supposed to be and was in excellent shape.... GOOD JOB!!!』

(Fantastic DragonBall Z Remastered Boxset!)
『I've been a diehard "DragonBall Z", "DragonBall", and "DragonBall GT" fan ever since I was six years old and I love this DVD boxset! In this remastered boxset, the entire Namek Saga and the Captain Ginyu Sagas are in it. In the Namek Saga, after the Saiyan Saga ends, Piccolo died, so Goku is training in case they are attacked by someone else, and Bulma, Gohan, and Krillin decide to go to the planet Namek to search for the Dragon Balls to revive Piccolo. After they accidently get tricked into going to a fake planet Namek by some shapeshifting aliens and eventually get to the real planet Namek, Vegeta, who's also searching for the Dragon Balls, shows up, and they all find out that Frieza, one of my favorite villains from "DragonBall Z", and his henchmen, Dodoria, the big, pink, spiky alien, Zarbon, a good-looking alien that transforms into a monsterous form, and his Frieza Soldiers, are taking over the planet to search for the Dragon Balls so Frieza can wish for immortality so he can rule the universe/world, so Gohan, Krillin, and the rest of the heroes try to stop him. In the Captain Ginyu Saga, after the good guys battle Frieza and his henchmen for a while, and some of the henchmen die, Frieza's Ginyu Force, a bunch of obnoxious, dancing/posing henchmen he hired, led by Captain Ginyu, come to the planet Namek and try to help Frieza find the Dragon Balls and get rid of the good guys, and this saga leads up to the Frieza Saga, that's in the next boxset. All thirty-five episodes (the Namek Saga and the Captain Ginyu Saga combined) are in it; you get all of the episodes, including "Escape from Dodoria", the first episode of "DragonBall Z" that I ever saw, "Goku is Ginyu and Ginyu is Goku", the one where Captain Ginyu uses his shapeshifting/body-switching ability/attack to switch bodies with Goku and attack Gohan, and the very funny "Captain Ginyu the Frog" episode where Goku tricks Captain Ginyu into body-switching with a frog so Goku can defeat him. The only things that I miss on the boxset are that there's no scene selection feature and that the original American music from Bruce Faulconer isn't there, but the show is still amazing! I love this boxset and I can't wait to get the rest of them: Season One, Season Three, Season Four, Season Five, Season Seven, Season Nine, and the DragonBall GT Season Two boxset and all of the DragonBall boxsets!』

(Fantastic remastering)
『Let me start off by saying this...If you are worried about buying this set because of the well known "cropping-issue" don't be. It's not nearly as bad as most people make it out to be. I finished watching it and there was not one instance where I could point out that it had in fact been cropped from the original episodes. I had to go online and find the comparisons to even notice. So yes there is cropping but in my opinion it in no way took away from the amazing experience of watching DBZ.

I think what I like about this the most is that they have redone the voice acting. You can now watch the entire Dragon Ball Z series start to finish with the same voice actors. That and the fact that you can get most of these sets for $24.99 makes this a steal of a deal.』

(Great)
『This season was in prime condition, worked great. Would be willing to by from this seller in future.』

(All that I remember from TV and more.)
『Back in the 90's when this show aired in my area, I used to watch DBZ before leaving for work. I didn't have cable or satellite, so my viewing choices were limited at 5am.
This season was one I saw more than once, and the network always seemed to skip segments that left me confused as to what I missed. After purchasing the whole season, and watching all the episodes, I got to fill in those missing blank spots from years ago.
Season 2, for me, was a defining season for what the rest of DBZ would be like.

『"You won't believe how powerful it is now!" --NewType

Having suffered heavy losses in the battle with the Saiyans, and with Goku still recovering from his injuries, the remaining Z-Fighters must embark on a perilous journey to Planet Namek in search of the Namekian Dragon Balls. Unbeknownst to them, however, a powerful new enemy has set his sights on the same prize—the ruthless tyrant Frieza!

Beset on all sides by danger, Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma must fight for their lives as they struggle to keep the Dragon Balls from falling into evil hands. Meanwhile, Goku races against time to join his friends in their quest, but waiting for him on Planet Namek is an army of the most powerful villains the universe has ever known, led by Frieza’s most elite fighting unit—the unstoppable Ginyu Force!

Season Two contains:

  • the Complete Namek Saga - first time on DVD! and Captain Ginyu Saga
  • 35 Action-Packed Episodes on 6 discs
  • Booklet filled with episode summaries and character descriptions
  • Revised English Dialogue with Original Japanese Music』
『The second season of the wildly popularDragon Ball Zcomprises the "Namek" and "Captain Ginyu" sagas. Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma travel to the planet Namek to find an even more powerful set of Dragon Balls that can restore the lives of Tenshinhan, Yamucha, Chaozu and Piccolo, who were killed by Vegeta during the first season. (Their souls continue to train with King Kai in the Other World.) All is not well on Namek: the arch-villain Frieza, who looks and sounds a bit like Truman Capote, also desires the Dragon Balls. If he uses them to obtain eternal life, he'll rule the universe forever. With a cadre of lieutenants that includes Vegeta, he slaughters the Namekians to gain the supernatural orbs. After his injuries have been healed by a magic senzu bean, Goku heads to Namek. En route, he trains at 100 gravities, raising his powers enormously. Vegeta believes Goku may be the legendary Super Saiyan that appears once a millennium--except he lacks the requisite love of battle. This version of Goku is less aggressive, and he uncharacteristically uses his brain (never his greatest asset) to defeat Ginyu, Frieza's second-in-command. UnlikeSeason 1--Vegeta Saga,Season 2ends on a cliff-hanger. Skeptics may find Goku's adventures needlessly protracted, over the top, and even silly. But for millions of boys, they provide the special blend of comradeship, martial arts training, and take-no-prisoners battles they love. The newly remastered edition includes the original Japanese dialogue for the first time. (Rated TV PG. suitable for ages 8 and older: violence, minor risqué humor, brief nudity, tobacco and alcohol use)--Charles Solomon

    (DB done right)
『Awesome set for true fans, this set has everything you'd want from Dragon Ball. 5.1 English with 'english music' (though it's similar to the Japanese, Bruce Faulconer did not make music for DB), and Japanese mono. The film is 4:3 and remastered very well and clear. The path to completing the DB series has begun, don't get left behind!』

    (DB)
『I remember this from when I was in middle school it was a great find and a reminder for my earlier days.』

(Finally! I get to start from the very begining! (Pt. 1 of 5))
『Dragon Ball Z, is a show that just sucked me in from the very first episode I ever saw. The intensity and amazing fights and very adult like premise just made me a fan instantaniously. I had always known that the show Dragon Ball existed, but it took such a long time for America to get it uncut not to mention getting the rest of the show. Funimation finally put the whole Dragon Ball saga into season box sets and affordable prices and of cousre like the first time around Dragon Ball is the last one to be released.

Most of you know the whole Dragon Ball Z saga, but now we are taken back to a much smaller and simpler time in the world of the innocent, yet vallient Goku. Goku is just a boy living alone in the wild until one day a beautiful teenaged girl named Bulma ends up on his doorstep looking for something called Dragon Ball. Goku had no idea he had it nor did he have any idea what a girl was! Suddenly Goku's simple world is blown wide open and he joins Bulma on her mission to find all seven of the Dragon Balls. On their quest they meet many foes and also a few loyal friends and who knew what this simple mission would turn into years down the line. Maybe..Goku will finally figure out a few things about himself he never would have expected.

This show is very different from Dragon Ball z. It such a delight to watch. It is filled with lots of laughs and a Dragon Ball Z fan will enjoy finally seeing where the story began and soon to come all the events that lead up to episode 1 of Dragon Ball Z. I think the part that the fans will like the most is just watching Goku and his friends grow up with each new adventure.』

    (A Review for England Viewers...)
『Well, I finally got this after a month and a bit.. (since I live in England) And i'm glad I did.. But when I opened my package, I looked on the back of the cover, to find that the Region Codes are only 1 and 4... I'm very disappointed in all this Region Code thing. America is Region 1 and pretty much 4, and England is Region 2... The past Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT Sets were all Regions 1, 2 and 4... So, I was delighted with them... I haven't seen Dragon Ball properly before, and was hoping they'd have Region 2 included! This is not good FUNimation.

Anyway, decent set.. Guess I need to get myself a Multi Regional Player... Or a new PC for my room (since PC is Multi Region)

By all means, buy it if you are a Dragon Ball Fan.. It's as simple as that... But for England, be sure you have a Multi Regional DVD Player first!!

I pretty much gambled thinking this would have Region 2 included... Like I did with Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT (which are Region 2 included) ...Now you know, just to warn you!』

    (Great)
『Love the series watched it a bit on tv before it went off air glad they brought it back on dvd big fan of the marathon feature too.』
『The greatest adventure of all time begins now! pGoku may be small, but this fearless warrior packs a punch as powerful as any on the planet. Left alone after his grandfather’s death, this unusual boy is happy to spend his days hunting and eating and eating some more. But everything changes on the day he meets Bulma – a bossy, blue-haired beauty with boys on the brain. Together, they set out to track down the seven magic Dragon Balls and make the wish that will change their lives forever.

And that’s just the beginning! Goku also spends some time on Turtle Island where he and Krillin study martial arts under the legendary Master Roshi. The old hermit may not look like much, but if his new pupils can find him a woman, he’ll make sure they’re ready to rumble at the upcoming World MartialArts Tournament!

Season One of Dragon Ball is a must-have for everyone from the die-hard fan to the next generation of collectors.』
『In 1986, the animated adaptation of Akira Toriyama's mangaDragon Balldebuted on Japanese television, launching one of the most popular franchises in anime history.Dragon Ballintroduced a special mixture of male bonding, rigorous training, martial arts fighting, slapstick comedy, and sci-fi action that scored a huge hit with boys and led to the follow-upsDragon Ball ZandDragon Ball GT--and numerous imitators. A small boy from another planet, Goku commands super-human strength, but he was raised in the remote mountains by an old man and he knows little of the world. Goku meets Bulma, who's trying to assemble the seven magical Dragon Balls so she can wish for a boyfriend. The naive boy and the hot-tempered girl join forces, then form a quarrelsome alliance with Oolong, the shape-shifting pig, and Yamcha, a dashing bandit with a metamorphic familiar, Puar. The heroes compete for the Dragon Balls against the pint-sized Emperor Pilaf (who wants to rule the world). After defeating Pilaf, Goku goes to study martial arts with Master Roshi, a lecherous but extraordinarily skilled old man. Goku and fellow student Krillin develop formidable powers that they use in the World Martial Arts Tournament. These episodes set the pattern forDragon Balland numerous other series: humans and creatures of all description train endlessly, then gather to pound the ramen out of each other before an audience. Naturally, the hero wins in an extended final match. The first adventures are lighter in tone and more broadly comic than the beginning of the darker Red Ribbon Saga. For years, the first13 episodes ofDragon Ballwere only available in the U.S. in the heavily edited setSaga of Goku, to the chagrin of the fans. Following their successful release of the completeDragon Ball ZandDragon Ball GT, Funimation is presentingDragon Balluncut and digitally restored. The series probably looks better now than it did when it premiered, as it was reportedly filmed in 16mm. Note: The sight of the prepubescent Goku and Krillin running around naked doesn't bother Japanese audiences. (Great anime with non-stop action&laughs)
『When I first viewed Bleach I was kinda skeptical, however; After viewing the first 7 episodes I was hooked. Its nonstop action, supernatural element, and humor really grew on me. Bleach is about a high school student named Ichigo with a sort of sixth sense, enabling him to see and speak to the deceased. While thats all fine and dandy, labeling him somewhat of a psychic, the real ordeal begins with his encounter with a shinigami named Rukia. The first 20 or so episodes are mainly character and plot development leading to what is deemed as the soul society story arc. Bleach without a doubt has some of the most interesting characters that you'll either love or hate. Its humor is top notch and fits within the right moments and moods. With that said, this series isn't without its downside, let me explain:

First: the recaps at the beginning of every episode is way too long. Giving you that feeling that a huge chunk of valuable minutes per episodes has been used on recaps alone, kinda makes you wonder if the creators really believe that its audience is in a constant state of amnesia.

Second: As the series progresses, mainly during the Hueco Mundo story arc, you'll notice that the flow of the story is abruptly disrupted to introduce its viewer to the series unrelated (story wise) fillers, this is quite annoying. While the fillers themselves are not bad (unlike Naruto), the way they are implemented into the series itself is the problem.

Third: This series seem to suffer from what I call the GI JOE syndrome (Talking about the 80's cartoon series), which means that as many slashing and critical blows dealt, none seem to die, with the exception of villians&non-essential characters of course. You could probably play this off as, "Well it is an anime." or "They are shinigami's." Yet at key moments, which I deem heart felt moments, the emotional impact loses its meaning or credibility.

Despite those flaws, it's still a great anime with some great characters. Unlike this series counterpart, Naruto, the fillers themselves are well done and well written. This series plot, its enemies, its heroes, its side characters, and its comedy are all well done and blend together to make it a wonderful viewing experience. Its not for everyone, but a good choice for any anime fan to add to their collection.』

    (Bleach Seasons 1, 2 and 3 = A great story arc)
『I was looking around for a good anime and was asking friends what was good. They said either Full Metal Alchemist or Bleach. I researched both and came to a decision to look into Bleach due to the supernatural and samurai fantasy fiction I like, plus the plot and imagination is just astounding. Pretty much, my friends were right about Bleach.

Seeing Im able to do only one review, Im going to include the other 2 seasons of Bleach as well. Warning: I am just giving you a one sentence summary for each season, so read ahead at your own risk.

The first season is amazing and shows pretty much what the show is about. The second season shows Ichigo and his friends arriving in the spirit realm on the way to rescue Rukia from the Soul Society and fight the Soul Reaper captains along the way. And finally, season 3 draws down to who ordered the execution of Rukia, which will be a twist you will not believe; as well as the amazing fights that Ichigo will have as well some of the Soul Reaper Captains.

The way I see it, each episode I watched, the show was getting better each disc. Bleach is one of those animes that gets better each time you watch a new episode, to be honest; it is very rare to find a good show that gets you interested these days. I bought it on trust and instinct, and both of those turned out to be good. I highly recommend this anime for anyone just starting out or beginning to discover anime. Besides, all the Bleach dvds are original and uncut, do not waste time buying the separate little discs; get it all in the box sets on Amazon for cheap.』

    (Good actions and fightings)
『Man that was sweet so many hollow killed and many human saved. I like the part where Ichigo fought against the Menos Grande』

    (Bleach is a GREAT Anime!)
『Bleach is a amazing anime! I have watched all the episodes out so far In the English Dub (153 episodes with more episodes to come) and in the Japanese Sub (240 episodes with more to come) and its just AMAZING! Sinse Amazon already tells you what Bleach is about in the desription, I'm just gonna get right to the point and talk about the box set.

When I got my box set in the mail it came in great condition and their were no scratches on the discs either. The boxset cover has Ichigo Kurosaki and Rukia Kuchiki on the front and on the back it tells you what Bleach is about and what you will expect in the first season. Their are 5 discs with 4 episodes on each disc and it even comes with a douple sided Ichigo poster and on the back of the poster has Bleach character production art inside too. This boxset is made a little different then other anime boxsets, you have to open the Bleach boxset kinda like a book to look at the discs unlike some other anime boxsets that have you unfold it to see the discs and such. Personally, i like how the Bleach boxsets are made better then how other anime boxsets are made. ANYWAYS....If you don't like the English Audio and prefer the Japanese version with subtitles you can always go to "Set Up" on the Main Menu of whatever Bleach disc you are on and change the language, I like the Japanese version and the English version but when it comes to which one i like better i would have to say that i like the Japanese version better but i still very much like the English version too. The subtitles they use for the Japanese version for the boxset are kinda similar to how the English cast people talk BUT the subtitles are still different then it though! i just said that they are KINDA similar, The subtitles are very seeable and easy to read also.

There is also special features like "Behind the scenes from Bleach", Production Art, and the Bleach Ending with no credits in it. The boxset all together is approximetley 460 minutes. If you are a Bleach fan or anime fan PLEASE give Bleach a try!! i'm sure you would like it, especially if u like shonen anime!!!』

(Excellent Anime. Better than watching it in poor quality online)
『Excellent Anime and Ive watched every episode out online on Anime websites even to the point of reading the subs on the 200+ episodes out. The Video Quality difference is so huge you would just have to see it to believe it.』
Episodes 1 - 20 now available in one box set!

For as long as he can remember, Ichigo Kurosaki has been able to see ghosts. But when he meets Rukia, a Soul Reaper who battles evil spirits known as Hollows, he finds his life is changed forever. Now, with a newfound wealth of spiritual energy, Ichigo discovers his true calling: to protect the living and the dead from evil. And when he vows to defend Rukia from the ruthless justice of the Soul Society, he and his friends must cross over and do battle in the spirit world...

    (It's Bleach)
『I preordered this and have Part 2 Preordered already. Love the series. Product came in perfect condition; I only wish they had a collector's edition lol』

(Just Another Money Sucking Anime Parasite!!!)
『This series started out being fairly interesting but once the gang saved Rukia, it's gone down hill ever since, and is nothing but filler episodes with boring fights with predictable outcomes.

This series is for the little kiddies out and not the hardcore adult anime fan! Bleach is similar in respects to DBZ which I also dislike.

If your into wasting your money on numerous season releases from Viz Media then by all means invest in Bleach just like you probably bought into the Inuyasha series ... lol.』

    (Solid Bleach Offering)
『Bleach Uncut Box Set: Season 4, Part 1-The Bount features episodes starting from the end of the Season 3 of Bleach (The Rescue) which does not continue with the plotline set up at the end of that set. That is too say that people who have followed the manga, have actually passed over these made for tv episodes, and already start off with the plotline of Aizen and such events. Needless to say, depending on how you feel about Bleach and the plot, then this boxset could be a make or break deal. If you have been following the sets then you are probably committed to getting them all over the course of the next few years (episode 79, the final episode on disc, is nearly 150+ episodes behind where the series is at now in Japan). But basically if you like the anime then you probably may want to get this set as it is more episodes to the show. If you like the manga then you will probably only watch this once to see what happens, but in the back of your head crave to see the events with Aizen (which unfortunately wont happen until they finally reach Bleach Season 5 on the DVD, in the Spring).

For the DVD offering it features, the usual that the discs include in terms of extras. English and Japanese Audio, English subtitles, Production Art, Shonen Jump manga preview, sneak peek (updated now to include preview of VIZ Media's release of Naruto Shippuden, Bleach Movie 1 trailer, and Bleach Dark Souls trailer)), Clean Ending (no credits on the screen), and Behind the Scenes featuring more minor characters (well major characters in this season of Bleach, and we get to see the director again (Wendee!) We should commend them on their great job of this behind the scenes feature).

In terms of the music, this set features two openings. "Ichirin no Hana" by High and Mighty Color which continues off from the episodes of Bleach Season 3, and "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" by Beat Crusaders", both of which sound awesome. For the ending it uses, "My Pace" by SunSet Swish and "Hanabi" by Ikimonogakari. I feel that the series has excellent openings but the endings are always hit or miss.

Finally for the episodes, the set includes episodes 64 to 79.

One final thing to note about the set is that the manufacturer has chosen to now put each disc of the DVD in its own thinline DVD case and place that into a cardboard case containing all of them. I like the old style better but it is alright since each slim case features a different characters portrait. There were also no bonuses in this one like the others, that is no poster or postcards :( . The discs are blue to match the set.』

(The Saga Of The Bounts Comes To Ichigo)
『The fourth box set starts off with Ichigo and his friends Chad , Orihime, and Uryu returning from the Soul Society after rescuing Rukia and helping the other soul reapers after the betrayal by Aizen and his followers, thinking that they can take some leisure time the friends soon find themselves in another dilemma as seemingly a group of powerful unknown people are going after Ichigo and his friends. After a few episodes though you'll find out the truth and the reason as Ichigo and the others find out that they have a new threat called the bounts, bounts are humans who can live forever as long as they feed on the souls of humans and now the bounts have gotten a new and incredibly powerful leader with a dark and devious plans for his bount followers. I've just started reading the manga series so I don't know if this story saga is really part of the Bleach manga series or not but regardless the series are very addictive and entertaining to watch. This first box set gives you the episodes 64 through 79 so it looks like that they're going to make this bount saga a two box set piece which for the price is very agreeable. Like always the video is clear and sharp and the voice cast for the Japanese and English crew were great as well though the extras aren't much to really shout about, the set comes with four dvds put into four thinpack cases and put in a paper sleeve which I regret since I feel that the way they did the first three sets was much better. So if you're a fan of the Bleach series here's the fourth set ready to buy and if you've never seen the show or read the manga try checking it online I'm sure you'll be a fan of the series after that...』

    (Skip It)
『I wanted to like it, but it falls short of what I've enjoyed in the episodes before the "Bount" There are a few parts I felt were important to over all story. My advice if your a fan of "bleach" skip this chapter, or rent it.』

    (Catch it on DVD)
『If you have not been following this on adult swim, this is your chance to catch up (or begin) on one of Japan's most popular exports. Bleach is supernatural anime at its best. Its equal parts horror, action, laughs and more action. While geared to teenage boys (shonen), it is still lots of enjoyable viewing for all. Im a huge fan of the show having started watching its current season (season 5).

    Not to be missed.』

    (love it)
『Bleach is a great show. I am not an anime lover but I always look forward to seeing this one.』

    (Awesome!)
『As Far as Anime goes, this is by far one of the best. I recommend this series to anyone who loves anime. Season 3 is just as awesome as seasons one and two. I can't wait for the rest of the series to be released.』

    (The Definitive Bleach Experience)
『Bleach: The Resuce continues immediately after the ending the previous boxset Bleach: The Entry. Before I continue, I will say that newcomers to the Bleach series will most likely want to either start with the previous boxset. It is possible to enter into the Bleach universe at the first episode in this set but there are so many characters presented here and Bleach mythos that it may be quite difficult to catch up.

Where this set opens up is immediately after the end of the previous set which had Ichigo finally reach Rukia. He meets up with Byakuya Kuchiki but the transformed Yoruichi evades Byakuya and escapes with Ichigo to train him for a future encounter with Byakuya.

This season raises the bar on the Bleach universe by finally introducing many of the other members of the court guard of the soul society. The greater plot theme that has been running since the entry into the soul society is also encountered. The final 5 episodes are the most CRUCIAL to this boxset and present many answers to burning questions.

This set also contains the most anticipated fight in the Bleach universe.

Boxset wise, there are 22 episodes in this set spanning five discs. Three discs contain four episodes respectively and the final two discs both contain five episodes respectively. The previous boxset decorated the disc with red artwork, this set uses blue artwork. Bonuses included are two Bleach postcard type items. I think I would rather have preferred to receive a poster, since you can never have too many Ichigo posters. Overlooking each of the disc are larger sized pieces of artwork featuring a major character of the episodes at hand.

Audiowise, two opening themes are used. The first few episodes continue to use the amazing theme "D-technolife" by Uverworld. The next opening used is "One Lone Flower" (I prefer to call it Ichirin no Hana) by High and Mighty Color. The ending themes are the odd "Happy People" by Skoop on Somebody and Yui's Life. Background music does not seem to have been change nor anything else added to any of the scenes.

English Audio and Japanese audio are both included. Bonuses include "Kon's US Tour" (feature of Kon going around the United States), and "Behind the Scenes of Bleach" featuring Yoruichi's English voice actor, Gin's English voice actor, Zangetsu's English voice actor, and Ichigo's English voice actor.

The reason why this is the definitive Bleach experience is that there is no other way to see all of these Bleach episodes in this quality with no waiting time. In a package such as this it is a great alternative to other methods and the production quality and bonuses make it worths its weight in gold.』

    (bleach rocks)
『my bro has some uncut dvds and they were so cool and dramatic, keep it up bleach fans, i'm glad that this anime is on adult swimXD』
『The day of Rukia's execution draws ever closer, and to save her, Ichigo and his loyal comrades must navigate the madness of a Soul Society on the brink of collapse. Ichigo and Renji face the most difficult training of their Soul Reaper careers as they struggle to achieve bankai, without which they have no hope against the most powerful captain of the Seireitei--Byakuya Kuchiki. While all the players converge at the site of Rukia's imminent execution, in the background, a group of Soul Reapers slowly uncover an unimaginable betrayal at the hands of one of their own--a betrayal that will shake the Soul Society to its very core.』
『The third season of the hit fantasy-adventureBleachmarks the conclusion of the story arc that began in "The Substitute" two seasons earlier. Orange-haired, hot-tempered Ichigo Kurosaki and his friends--Chad, Orihime, Ishida, and Master Yoruichi, the talking cat--pass through the inter-dimensional portal linking Earth to the Seireitei, the stronghold of the Soul Society. Although they’ve come to rescue Rukia from execution, the arrival of the teenagers precipitates a deadly civil war within the Soul Society. Amid the growing chaos, Yoruichi reveals she was a princess in the Seireitei before she fled to Earth. When she realizes Ichigo isn't strong enough to survive the impending battles, Yoruichi spirits him away. He must be able to achieveBankai, the ultimate power over his Zanpak-tô sword, which he learns by dueling with Zangetsu, the spirit of the sword. Despite exhaustion and the wounds he's received, Ichigo fights with grim determination. While Ichigo trains, some of the Soul Society's most formidable officers join the teenagers, including Toshiro, the child-prodigy captain, the fantastically tattooed Renji, and the spiky-haired Kenpachi. Ichigo arrives just in time to save Rukia. Drawing on the grueling training he's just completed, Ichigo fends off the clouds of murderous blades summoned by Rukia's haughty brother Byakuya. During the battle, Ichigo begins to growa half-mask that resembles the monstrous Hollows. Horrified, he rips it away and renews his attack. But Ichigo has no time to celebrate his narrow victory: he, his friends, Rukia, and the Soul Society Captains have all been used as pawns by an unscrupulous villain. Director Noriyuke Abe once again shifts from dramatic derring-do to broad comedy as he sets the stage for the next story arc. Ichigo's time in the Seireitei made him stronger--but is he strong enough for the adventures that await him? (Insane)
『i have been a dbz fan since it came out in britan and this made me remember so much and dont worry there region 1 2 and 4 so most people should be ok it's bassicly Insane its a brilliant series and i plan on buy each one!』

    (Finally, DBZ on DVD!!!)
『Back in my elementary and middle school days, I use to watch Dragonball Z about every day. I waited patiently for each new episode with great anticipation. Unfortunately, if you missed one episode, you missed it for good until the season was over. I hated that aspect of it all. Finally, years later, the most popular anime ever created hits the DVD shelves. I admitt I'm not really an anime fan but DBZ has always captivated me with it's interesting characters and incredible detail and action sequences. Now fans can own the complete series uncut, fully remastered both audio and visual wise. Excellent!! ALso included is the original Japanese dialouge and music, a interesting option to enjoy DBZ in its original form. If you're a die-hard fan this is a great way to start off your collection with the season that started it all, the Saiyan or Vegeta saga. Starring in my opinion the most thrilling and greatest character ever, Vegeta!!!!!!!!!!!!』

    (Dragon Ball Z: Season One)
『Dragon Ball Z, in my mind it's just awesome. I used to watch it when I was a kid and loved the all the action in it. Then when I discovered these season boxsets that were out, I bought them as quickly as possilbe. Then I sat back and renewed all my memories of this show. The Vegeta Saga was a great way to start this series off in my mind. The characters from Dragon Ball are re-established and some new ones are introduced, like Gohan, King Kai and Vegeta. New story lines are brought in, but the comedy is still there and makes this show very entertaining to watch. You get 39 episodes for this first season and I can't complain. So if you haven't seen this show in a long time, I recommend you start buying this series since all the seasons are out on DVD boxsets and just enjoy an awesome show.

    Review by Trevor Kies』

    (Just say No!!)
『I've noticed a lot of the 5-star reviews for this item contain this sentiment: "Well, OK, it's cropped, it's not an actual remaster, but this is the best release so I'm not complaining."

Well, now you have a better option. The Dragon Box is coming in September. These are the actual Japanese masters of the series. No cropping, nothing. Completely remastered (not run through a machine). And it's exactly the same physically as the Japanese Dragon Box release.

Basicaly, funimation released these 'Orange Brick' box sets because they believed they would never recieve the rights to release the Dragon Box.
I would suggest selling these box sets while you still can. Admittedly, they're OK for a cheaper option, but in the long run they aren't the absolute best version of the show.』

    (A Necessary Addition)
『I just started digging into this new remastered uncut series.
    I am just blown away.
    The quality is outstanding.
Since I am a big Dragonball fan. With the dubs by Funimation.
Going from there to the awful dubs of Ocean group had been a huge disappointment.
I got used to the gang all sounding a certain way,&hearing them through the ocean dubs sounded bad&cheesy.

What makes this set essential is that it actually ties together much of the story that was missing from the cut series.
There are important subtleties within the storyline that are neatly tied together, where I had always disliked Z for just jumping around too much, without any explanation.
You can actually see here the development of the relationship between Piccolo&Gohan.

Episodes 36-38 actually become essential in this series instead of just filler episodes in the bad cut ocean version.
You connect with the loss of the z fighters&the aftermath before they head out to Namek.
Episode 30 you actually see Launch again, in her last scene ever which was cool for me because they all but forgot about her after DB.

I am excited to see how the Frieza&Trunks saga's are handled.
The Frieza series with ocean dub was Bleech!!
Took way too long&5 minutes became half of a saga.
Also want to see if the DR. Gero storyline problems are better dealt with in the Trunks Saga.

I would highly recommend getting this series.
I am actually looking at Z now with a fresh outlook.
I am hoping that the quality remains throughout.

『The Saiyans are coming! The last survivors of a cruel, warrior race, these ruthless villains have carved a path of destruction across the galaxy, and now they have set their sights on Earth. They will stop at nothing until they have the wish-granting powers of the seven magic Dragon Balls for their very own.

With the fate of his family, friends and the entire human race hanging in the balance, Goku, the Earth's greatest hero, must rise to meet the approaching threat. As he prepares for the fight of his life, Goku embarks on an epic journey that will take him to other worlds, pit him against new and old enemies alike, and force him to confront the dark secrets of his own past. At the end of his path, the most powerful opponent he has ever faced awaits - the evil Saiyan Prince Vegeta!

The ultimate Dragon Ball Z - Collect them all!』
『One of the most popular franchises in anime history,Dragon Ballbegan in 1984 as a manga by Akira Toriyama inShonen Jump.Dragon Ball Z(1989), the second TV adaptation, is the most beloved: it ran for 291 episodes--more thanDragon Ball(1986) andDragon Ball GT(1996) combined. Over the years, the program has introduced countless boys to the world of Japanese animation. The first season re-introduces the main characters and sets up a new threat. Goku learns he's not an Earthling, but a Saiyan from the planet Vegeta. Only three other Saiyans survive, all of them extremely powerful and destructive. Goku destroys Raditz with the help of Piccolo, but dies in the process. He spends much of the season training in the Other World with King Kai. Piccolo takes over training Goku's son Gohan, anticipating he will have to face the remaining Saiyans, Nappa and Vegeta. These episodes set the pattern for the combination of martial arts training, fantasy-battles and slapstick comedy that make the series so popular. The storyline rambles, with lots of digressions, repeats, and false endings--none of which bother the fans. AlthoughDragon Ball Zhas been released previously in the US, Funimation pulled out all the stops for this edition. The entire series has been remastered from the original prints, and the Japanese language track is included for the first time. (Goku and Krillin have higher-pitched, younger voices than they do in the American dub.) ForDragon Ball Zfans, this version clearly supercedes all previous ones. (Rated TV PG. suitable for ages 8 and older: violence; minor incidents of risqué and toilet humor, ethnic stereotyping and alcohol use)--Charles Solomon

    (At long last)
『Finally, after 13 years of initially becoming a DBZ fan and clamoring for the series uncut without resorting to fan subs on VHS, it's delivered on DVD in the United States uncut, subbed, AND with good video quality (retaining grain and other film qualities). This is DBZ the way it's meant to be seen, and I can't wait to finally see the entire series, beginning to end, untainted. Keep it up, FUNimation; don't skimp out on any future Dragon Box volumes.

The packaging is a delight as well. I wonder if it emulates the Japanese packaging, because the book's pages are ordered from right to left, as is the placement of the discs.

There you go, a short review from one very happy customer. I refused to buy the previous season sets due to the horrible video quality. I'm one who cannot stand cropping, excessive DVNR, and severe contrast boosting. I'm glad FUNimation finally listened to the most extreme fans of DBZ and delivered what we've wanted all along.』

    (Best set ever)
『There are far too many one star reviews for this, by people who probably know nothing about the history of Dragonball Z DVD releases. This is the best version available, with the clearest possible remastered picture (and it's really remastered, unlike the orange boxes), original aspect ratio, and all credits and previews, based on the restored Dragonbox set in Japan that's several times the price. Yes, it does cost more than the orange boxes, and yes, Funimation's releasing the same episodes twice... but if anything, that means that the orange boxes should be rated down, not this. It's the version we should have gotten in the first place.』

『This set is simply "it" for us older, purist fans. I've been watching the DB universe for over 15 years now and actually completed DBZ in Japan. I saw the actual airing of the Buu Saga, and I never thought I'd be reminded of that feeling again. This set is great for us nostalgic people who want the true DBZ. No BS, the set is damn near godsend for us. If you're one of the people who bought ghetto VHS tapes with stickers on them your whole life, or the guy who purchased the laser discs, etc.. then look no further. If you're a dubby go cry elsewhere because you've gotten your "remastered" editions already. You've all be catered too since the beginning. About time Funimation did something for oldskoolerz. Takes me back to when anime was Japanamation and you weren't cool for liking it.

    Finally, our search is over.

Only issue I got with it is that the DVD menus could have more on them, looks fairly cheap. But cmon' who really cares? Also, the box is beautiful however a tad poorly constructed. Seems to be falling a part pretty fast... nothing a bit of glue wont fix. lol

    Buy the Dragon Box.

(Pay no attention to the negative reviews...)
『as most of them are written by disgruntled buyers of the maligned Season Sets who don't actually own (or appreciate) the Dragon Box.

This Dragon Box release is what fans have been waiting for FOR YEARS. I never wasted a dime on the Ultimate Uncut Editions or Season Sets on the outside chance that Funimation might come around and redeem themselves with a product like this. So for me, at least, I'm excited to see my patience pay off. I am elated to finally revisit this part of the show and to finally see it uncut (and uncropped).

The picture is as clean as can be expected from a 20-year-old, hand-drawn anime. No loss of detail or over-saturated colors. The Japanese audio is rightfully the default sound setting. I had hoped that Funimation would record a newer, more faithful dub for this release-- but alas, the dub track is almost a word-for-word re-enactment of the same horribly-inaccurate script from the show's original syndicated run in the mid 90s. But if you prefer the Japanese audio anyway, the dub track is just a bonus. The loathsome dub music track, thankfully, is absent altogether (though some people take great offense to that, for whatever reason).

Overall, I can't stress enough what a quality release this is. If you've been holding out on buying the Season Sets like I did, don't hesitate to buy this. If you already own the Season Sets and are looking to upgrade, you should definitely consider buying this. If you already own the Season Sets and just choose to be bitter about the very notion of this release, well... my condolences.』

    (Wonderful boxset!)
『This is an awesome boxset of Dragon Ball Z episodes 1 to 42 using the original frame-by-frame restoration done by Toei and Pony Canyon in 2003.

The picture quality is stunning. The color depth and clarity here is astounding! Not only do you get the intended 4:3 picture, the episodes have been digitally restored frame-by-frame thus removing all traces of dirt and film damage. They even went as far as to digitally align the frame to significantly reduce the film jitter from mis-aligned frames.

None of this was done for Funimation's previous 'remastered' season sets and the Dragon Box easily blows those out of the water in terms of quality because of that.

The sound quality for the japanese audio has been cleaned up as well, providing for a more clear and louder track than what was previously offered. The english 5.1 track seems to be okay but suffers from poor mixing as the background music is much too soft in contrast to the voices and sound effects.

Please note: The japanese mono track is the default audio on this set. Do not panic! Just go to the language settings and switch to the english track. Also, the dub music is not offered here, so keep that in mind.

The excellent subtitles are provided by long-time Dragon Ball fan and Funimation subber Steven J. Simmons and are the best you can get.

The packaging is some of the best ever offered by Funimation. The whole design is much more subtle than their previous releases and emulates the original Dragon Box quite well. You get the original artwork and foil logo on the front with a neat little addition of a Dragon Ball on the spine (Seven Dragon Balls = seven sets) and the episode count is on the spine as well for quick reference.

The DVD booklets are very nice looking but fit a little too tightly in the box so they are a bit hard to get out. You get three discs per booklet.

The only real bonus feature here is the marvelous hardcover booklet entitled, "Dragon Book". For the first time, Funimation uses the original names and terminology (Like Kuririn instead of Krillin) in their release of the series, which is quite exciting for fans of the japanese version. The book also reads from right to left like a manga. That was a nice little touch, I think.

As for what the book contains, it has highly-detailed episode summaries (including when they originally aired in Japan), little highlight blurbs of certain episodes, a character relationship chart, a timeline of the anime in contrast to real world events as it ran in Japan, a fashion diagram of some of the clothing characters wore for these episodes and finally the original character designs sketches.

The only downside is that there are some spelling errors but other than that, its fine.

All of this is printed on high-quality glossy paper and is bound in a fantastic hardcover with a cool looking picture of Vegeta on the cover.

Its just an amazing little bonus that shows that Funimation is clearly putting effort and thought into this release.

All in all, this is a fantastic release and I cannot recommend it enough to Dragon Ball fans, especially fans of the original japanese version. Its more than worth the asking price.

    Great job, Funimation!』

『As a series, compelling, enveloping, and maturing with each passing disk. It is all in the character, circumstance, and sacrifice of this sisterhood. Artwork, background, and activity are solid/consistent. These voice actors created an emotional identification with and commitment to the trials of their characters extending from just entertainent to cult. That is until the final disk. The voice of the 6th disk becomes monaural/gutteral, brutishness replaces sensitivities learned through trials, and the uplifting psychology of dealing with "an itch you can never scratch" becomes psychotic. A truly, truly great five disk series brought to a tranished end by a wretched sixth disk.』

    (To Thine Enemies....Rest in Pieces)
『This was something that I thouroughly enjoyed. To start with the name "Claymore" refers to a cast of warriors that fight for an organization that destroys Yoma's..demons...beast like creatures that feed on human flesh. The setting is somewhat medieval..1600's. There are no modern conviences..no machines etc.
As you watch the story you learn that the "Claymores" themselves are fused with Yoma's...the same beasts that they have vowed to wipe from the face of the earth. This in part makes them much more capable then the average person. They can tap into their Yoma side to enhance their strength...stamina etc. Yet this comes at a price..if you exceed your limit you yourself turn into a Yoma.
Since this is a medieval setting they fight with swords and that means loss of limbs...heads. There is a plenty of action and blood but it is not senseless.

At the start of the series you follow Clare on a few missions then there is a brief flashback of 4 or so episodes so that you can understand Clare's outlook on things. Which are important to understanding the series. After that it plays more as a continuous story.
I normally do not give 5 stars but this was my type of series. When I look at the series as a whole the animation (like Death Note or something) is Far Above average! Voices are well done background music has an edge to it.
For myself the replay value is exceptional.
My box does not look like what they show but it is in a Wide Screen format...it came in a 3 thinpak Dvd set with on DVD on each side of the case.
I can honestly say...for my tastes..this is the best series I have seen this year. I highly recommend!!』

(AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! Solid release, many special features, two booklets...awesome series!)
『Definitely one of the best anime series I have watched in 2009 thus far. "Claymore" is a violent, dark fantasy anime series that is gripping, action-packed, well-animated and well-written. I was totally engrossed by the whole series from beginning to end. Based on the popular ongoing manga series, if you want a solid and well-done anime series, look no further... "Claymore" is fantastic!

In 2001, the manga series "Claymore" debuted on Monthly Shonen Jump. The popular series created by award-winning mangaka Norihiro Yagi ("Undeadman", "Angel Densetsu").

The series has remained popular and is still ongoing in Japan via Jump Square. Animation studio Madhouse adapted the first eleven volumes of the manga series in the 26-episode anime series "Claymore" which debuted on NTV in 2007.

"Claymore" takes place during a time where monsters known as yoma have lived in villages, disguising themselves as human. They feed on humans and when things get to the point where countless murders are happening in a village, a mysterious organization sends a Claymore to dispose of the Yoma.

The Claymore are humans that are half-human and half-yoma. They are the only ones that are capable of defeating yoma and are primarily female, blonde and have silver eyes. They carry with them a sword and some have supernatural abilities.

Upon defeating the yoma, someone in black collects the money for them. If a village does not pay, a Claymore will no longer defend the city. Claymore also have a rule that they can not kill any humans and also, as a Claymore tries to keep their humanity, by using their supernatural talent, they unleash their own personal yoma but each time they do that, they lose part of their humanity.

The animated series focuses on the Claymore known as Clare. She comes to a village who has been terrorized by a yoma and defeats it. But a boy named Raki becomes attached to Clare and will follow her everywhere to become close to her.

Clare is warned not to have a human close to her but for some reason, she allows him to be close to her and also feels protective over him. Over the course of the series, we learn about Clare's history and why she is protective of Raki. We also learn what happens to Claymore who overuse their yoma energy and when they become the "awakened" and more.

The following 26-episodes are featured on six DVD's. Here is a spoiler-less summary of each episode of "Claymore":

    * EPISODE 4 - Clare's Awakening - Clare takes on the "Voracious Eater".

    * EPISODE 26 - To the Successors - The final episode featuring Clare (in awakened form) vs. Priscilla (who is unaware that she is an awakened being).

    VIDEO&AUDIO:

"Claymore: The Complete Series" is featured in 16×9. "Claymore" is a television series and knowing that most animation studios tend to work on an episode quickly (especially if other animators and staff are working on several titles), this series is done very well. The backgrounds and the characters definitely give this dark fantasy atmosphereto the series. Colors and lighting play a big part in the series and there is a special feature in which this is discussed. But for the most part, the animation and character designs really capture your attention. The scenes are action-packed and the fighting sequences and swordfighting is also well done. "Claymore" definitely features solid animation and I can only hope that this series receives an HD presentation someday.

As for audio, audio is presented in English Dolby Digital 5.1 and Japanese stereo. For the most part, voice acting is well done and the fact that there are so many characters in this series, both fans of English voice dubs and Japanese voice acting for anime series can expect some of their favorites involved in this series. Audio is front and center channel driven but for an immersive soundtrack, I had my receiver set on stereo on all channels. I wanted to make sure the action and the growls of the yoma were more immersive but for the most part, both dialogue are well-acted.

Although I tend to watch a lot of anime series with the Japanese voice dub, for "Claymore", I enjoyed the voice dub for the series because it was more mature in dialogue. For example, the character of Ophelia is one deadly woman and when you see her in pain, she's cussing up a storm. And this is one of the few times where I felt the "F-word" and profanity was well utilized in an anime series (thus the TV MA rating). There's no hiding from the pain a lot of these women must endure and so I felt that the dialogue for the English dub was well done and well-written and much more mature than its Japanese counterpart.

    Subtitles are in English only.

    JUDGMENT CALL:

My first impression after watching "Claymore" was "WOW!".

The series reminded me of what I enjoyed with classic anime series such as "Hokuto no Ken" (Fist of the Northstar) and "JoJo's Bizarre Adventures" in which villages are being terrorized by evil beings and hopes for a hero to come and save them. But instead of male characters that kick butt, "Claymore" features a storyline about a group of female warriors that take down the evil monsters. So, that was pretty cool to see in this anime series!

With "Claymore", what's interesting is how this dark fantasy manages to capture your attention through the action but also character development and its character designs. The Claymore women (and there are many of them) have each been given a sort of personality that makes them unique in their own way. For the most part, their character designs and their supernatural abilities are very cool and exciting to watch but the fact that these women can easily turn on each other and their certain attitude is quite refreshing to see in an animated series.

This is one of the few anime series that I have seen in 2009 where I literally watched one after the other in a marathon-like setting because the story was so captivating and you just wondered what was going to happen next. Granted, there are a lot of action-based anime series on television right now with a large cast of characters but the fact that "Claymore" is much darker, takes place in a fantasy type of world and the fact that the main protagonists can easily be the antagonist is very different. Just watching how the story arcs are developed with Clare and Raki in the beginning, to Teresa and Clare right after and then back again to see Clare vs. Ophelia and various storylines of multiple Claymores and how violent the series can get but yet maintaining a well-paced, action-packed storyline featuring cool characters is a plus. Typically in an anime series, when a character doesn't show up that much, you don't really care for them but somehow the writers managed to make you care about the various Claymore warriors that you wonder when you will see them again.

The manga series is still ongoing in Japan but I just hope that Madhouse Studios continues to make another Claymore series and cover more of the chapters from the manga because for a TV series, I was literally captivated by it. This is definitely one of the best anime TV series I have seen in 2009.

"Claymore: The Complete Series" is a more mature, dark and violent anime series. Granted, it was a TV series, but expect to see a lot of blood and severed limbs from time to time. It's not disgusting at all but I know some anime viewers may be sensitive to those type of scenes.

Overall, "Claymore: The Complete Series" is an excellent release from FUNimation Entertainment. Plenty of special features, two books included. I was very impressed by the presentation of content and of course, the quality of this television series. This series is highly recommended!』

(Must see if you are into dark fantasy anime like Berserk)
『This is a series a friend turned me onto recently and I am currently watching. The last episode I saw was episode 17 "The Witch's Maw Part 3", so I have nine episodes left, though the manga is still being put out the show is only twenty six episodes long. The series aired between April 2007 - September of 2007 in Japan on Nippon Television. Most of this series is based on the first eleven volumes of the manga, however the last two episodes follow an original storyline.

The story for this show is basically about a world where humans coexist with monsters know as Yoma, the Yoma seem to have an appetite for human guts, unlucky for the humans it seems. There are beings that are half Yoma, and half human known as Claymores, probably because they carry big swords on them similar to Gutz in Berserk (another great anime I'll have to tell you about in the future). These Claymores work for a secret organization that hires the Claymores out to towns that have a Yoma problem, most of these towns don't really care for the Claymores much more than the Yoma, but have no choice but to use their abilities to dispatch the monsters. This Anime focuses on Clare who joins the Organization to get her revenge for the person she looked up to most in the world Teresa. Teresa was killed by Priscilla, a Claymore that awakened into a monster. During her travels Clare befriends a young boy named Rki, from what I've seen the only person she really cares for though she wouldn't admit it in the beginning of the show. That's the basic premise for the show, like I said I have another nine episodes left and I did not read the the manga so I have no idea what is to come.

I would recommend this show to anyone who likes dark fantasy adventure, with lots of action and pretty good character develpment. Like most Anime you'll be confused when the show first begins, but a few episodes in and I'm sure you'll love it. Based on what I've seen of this show so far I give it a 4 out of 5.

    (Perfect!)
『I LOVE this series! My next step will be working to get all of the Manga.

This is a great buy, but I wish the box art was the same as the image in the preview for the item. It's ok though, it's still a nice box set. :)』

『A brutal scourge stalks the land. Yoma, monsters driven by a hunger satisfied by only one quarry– Humanity. The dark breed knows but a singular foe: Claymore. Human-Yoma hybrids of extraordinary strength and cunning, the Claymores roam from skirmish to skirmish delivering salvation by the edge of a blade. Thus begins the twisting tale of Clare, one such sister of the sword driven by pain inboth victory and defeat. A child silent and suffering hidden in her past, Clare’s march toward vengeance unfolds along a path marked by violence, solitude and scorn. In a land where even the predator is prey, the haunted hearts of hunter and hunted alike wear the scars of the age.』

(One of the Best Seasons Ever!!)
『Season eight is the continuatin of season seven and one of the best ever!! The action is unbelievable and there are plenty of great new characters, like Dabura. There are plenty of new concepts for this season, such as bad ass super saiyan three and fusion ( I love Gotenks as well!!). However, by far the most compelling thing in this season is Vegeta's role in the story. The saiyan prince returns to his evil roots here and the emotion evoked in his scenes are excellent. He truly is my favorite character and that of many other fans' of the long and beloved series. The Goku vs. Vegeta fight may be one of the best in all of DragonBall Z history!!』

    (Amazing "DragonBall Z" boxset!)
『I've been a diehard "DragonBall Z", "DragonBall GT", and "DragonBall" fan ever since I was six years old and I love this DVD boxset! Continuing from where Season Seven(The Great Saiyaman and World Tournament Sagas) left off, Spopovitch and Yamu go to Babidi's Spaceship, with the good guys flying after them, and give Babidi, another one of my favorite villains from the series, the energy that they collected that's being used to revive Babidi's father's, Bibidi's (another of my favorite villains from the series, that doesn't make his debut 'til the flashback in the "End of Earth" episode in the final boxset) monster, Majin Buu (another villain that I like), and the good guys eventually learn about this and try to stop Babidi from reviving him. Throughout the sagas, the good guys fight against Babidi's henchmen, Pui Pui, Yakon, and Dabura in his ship in order to get to him and Buu's egg, Majin Buu gets revived and fights against the good guys, Vegeta gets killed by Majin Buu and eventually gets revived, Buu kills Babidi, and Buu meets Hercule and decides to not be evil, leading up to the final boxset where that changes entirely. There are so many new characters that are in the Babidi and Majin Buu sagas, such as Babidi, the worm/rat/roach-like Majin wizard, his father, Bibidi, who was also a Majin wizard, and Majin Buu, the childlike, bubblegum-like monster (all three of their names, Bibidi, Babidi, and Buu, parody/are a reference to the song in "Disney's" "Cinderella"), Dabura the demon king (whose name is a parody/is a reference to abracadabra, a magic-related phrase), Pui-Pui, Babidi's Voon-jin henchman, Yakon, Babidi's dark monster henchman that eats light, and the Supreme Kai, and many others. You get all the episodes from Season Eight (Babidi Saga and Majin Buu Saga combined), such as when Babidi revives Majin Buu, when Majin Buu fights against the good guys, when Majin Buu turns Dabura into a giant cookie and eats him, when Majin Buu kills Vegeta, and the cliffhanger ending to the Majin Buu Saga. The only things that I miss from the boxset are that there's no scene selection feature and the American music Bruce Faulconer made isn't there, but the show is still amazing! I love this boxset and I can't wait to get the rest of the "DragonBall Z", "DragonBall GT", and "DragonBall" boxsets that I don't have yet!』

(Why does this show suck so bad? One possible explanation)
『This is one of the worst shows I have ever seen. Now, everyone knows that Japanese culture is inferior, so I attributed the stupidity of these shows to some Japanese cultural flaw. That made sense to me. Since Japan was isolated from the rest of the world for thousands of years, they developed a lot of.....interesting..... ideas. For instance, had they shared technology and findings with the rest of the world, they might have discovered that having teacups without handles is not a very good idea. Tea is intended to be hot. China conducts heat. NOT a good idea. The British figured this out and did the simple thing of putting handles on their teacups, but NOT the Japanese. Nooo, they're too good for fancy handles! Similarly, they eat with sticks despite the fact that much simpler ways have been discovered for instance A FORK. But no. The Japanese couldn't figure this one out either.

It makes no sense? Why would they make such horrible shows? Not many people know this but when the Japanese adopted their new constitution in 1946, a proviso was added stating that any fictitious character created needed to be able to transform into a robot which later combined with other robots to form a giant super-robot. This strange trend in Japanese fiction now made sense to me. However, their shoddy animation still defied explanation.

The animation is terrible. It features characters with strange looking eyes that talk by simply opening their mouths. Their hair is all pointy like the statue of liberty (even though they're not even American) and their eyes are all big and stuff. Then they have this weird swooshy stuff in the background and they're constantly fighting with one another. Why does every Japanese cartoon have constant fighting and no storyline? Stupid Japan, they don't even have a military. Why train their children to be overtly violent? Or maybe that's why they do it... because since they can't do anything cool in real life they need to do it in stupid cartoons to get it out of their system. Whatever it is, we need to stop importing this crap.』

(Season two features even more action as Goku takes on the Red Ribbon Army and Mercenary Tao!)
『It's the series that started it all... "Dragon Ball". Originally, a manga series written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama for "Shonen Jump", the manga series lasted from 1984 through 1995 and since the manga series has produced several anime series which include "Dragon Ball", "Dragon Ball Z", "Dragon Ball GT" and currently in Japan, a new HD broadcasting of "Dragon Ball Kai" and in 2009, an American live action film titled "Dragonball Evolution" was released worldwide.

"Dragon Ball" is the first arc of the series which aired in Japan from 1986 through 1989 and lasted for 153 episodes. The series was released by Harmony Gold USA in the late 80's and then by FUNimation Entertainment in 1995 and uncut episodes were released on DVD in 2003.

And now the episodes have been released in the USA with the awesome first season of "Dragon Ball" and now the second season is now released for the first time uncut, remastered and digitally restored.

    VIDEO&AUDIO:

When I first saw "Dragon Ball", it was probably back in 1992 and the quality of this raw Japanese video was so rough and hard to watch, it was just bad. Several years later, I was able to catch the first few episodes that aired on television but the problem was that the schedule was inconsistent and our television network was quite bad.

So, it is great to see this uncut, remastered and digitally restored version on DVD. Presented in its original format of 4:3, one thing I noticed is how good this anime series looked on DVD. The series is nearly 25 years old and just watching it, FUNimation Entertainment did a great job in bringing this series out and making it look very good with only a hint of dust particles and scratches but for the most part, this remastered version definitely looked very good on DVD.

As for the audio, similar to the recent FUNimation Entertainment "Dragon Ball Z" and "Dragon Ball GT" releases, the English voice track with original Japanese music comes in 5.1 Surround, while the Japanese voice track is in its original Japanese mono. I watched both English and Japanese and of course, there are some changes in the English dialogue (ie. Master Roshi and in the Japanese track, Kamesama Sennen) and grew up watching the original Japanese version but for the most part, I have enjoyed the "Dragon Ball Z" and "Dragon Ball GT" dubwork and similar to those two series, I found th English dubwork for "Dragon Ball" to be quite solid. Dialogue is clear and understandable and for audio settings, for both audio tracks, I found the best setting for me was to select on my receiver "Stereo on all Channels".

    Subtitles are in English.

    SPECIAL FEATURES:

"Dragon Ball - Season Two" comes with the textless opening and closing theme songs and FUNimation Entertainment trailers.

    JUDGMENT CALL:

Another action packed volume of "Dragon Ball" and this time around, the battles become more prevalent as Goku takes on the Red Ribbon Army and Mercenary Tao. But my favorite episodes feature characters such as Android 8 and Arale but things are definitely getting more interesting with the arrival of Mercenary Tao and an opponent that actually is much more powerful than Goku (at that moment). Also, to watch this series once again, not only was it a nostalgic time for me, it was just great to see the episodes and watching how fun, humorous and action-packed they were. Although, "Dragon Ball" is not as intense as "Dragon Ball Z", the series still manages to capture a lot of action. Bare in mind that Goku is a young boy in this series but even so, he still has enormous power including his recently learned "kamehameha".

For parents wondering about the TV 14 rating, although the first volume featured some risque situations (ie. Goku putting his hand on crotches to see if they are male or female), if anything, there's nothing like that in this second volume although there is much more violence in this volume and characters are getting killed off.

As for the DVD, as mentioned, this is the best I have seen "Dragon Ball" look and 3o episodes for the first volume is pretty much a bargain for what it's sold for. Granted, I wish there were some special features included outside of textless theme songs but overall, you're getting your money's worth with these box set releases.

Granted, if I had to find a negative and wanted to be nitpicky, I can easily complain that the fifth disc only contains three episodes and that the Japanese audio track was not in Dolby Digital 5.1 but truthfully, 30 episodes is still plentiful and for purists, you do get the Japanese audio track in its original mono format and its in 4:3 and not made to be widescreen. Really, there is nothing I can really complain about this release. It's a very solid release that is affordable and just worth it!

Overall, "Dragon Ball - Season Two" is another wonderful release from FUNimation Entertainment. Fans of any of the "Dragon Ball" series will definitely want to make sure this one is in their collection. Definitely recommended!』

    (Semi-family-friendly fun)
『I hadn't seen Dragon Ball in over 20 years, but I remembered watching it with a pastor's then-5-year-old grandson back then. The label on the box says contents may not be appropriate for children under 14, and a quick watch showed me why.

Most of the sexual references flew over my 9-year old's head as we watched together (with my thumb positioned over the "skip" button on the remote). The only odd moment was in the Pengiun Village episode when Blue Shogun said a helpful boy was "his type." My daughter asked what they meant, and rather than explain paedophelia I gave a vague explanation that saying someone is your type means you like him/her.

My 9-year old loved Arare chan from the two Penguin Village episodes so much I wish someone would come out with Arare chan DVDs, also (or at least reprint the old Dr. Slump comics). She also liked the slapstick and body-function humor (e.g. Kame Sennin's accidentally farting when struggling to unbind himself from ropes). So far I haven't come across more problematic scenes where my duty as parental censor will come into play, but I remember from watching all those years ago that they're either in later Season 2 or Season 3 episodes. The violence can get intense at times, so I'll make sure the 3-year old isn't in the room when Tao Pai Pai comes on.

The colors in the DVD transfer are better than I remember, and the audio (I've only wathed with the original Japanese track) seems about the same. Maybe the animation doesn't dazzle me because my eyes have been so spoiled by Pixar over the past two decades. All in all, Dragon Ball has been lots of nostalgic fun for me and "new" entertainment to my 9-year old.』

(Nothing here for the fanboys to cry about, but they still will anyway)
『The first Dragonball set was amazing. Perfect picture, original score (No dub tracks were ever created by Funimation), Japanese/English voices, cool packaging, etc. The new season will be just as great as the first. I'm sure the hardcore "fans" will still cry and say the Dragonbox is better despite this, though.』

    (Completing all the Dragonball)
『Can't wait fot this Season 2 to come out. Pretty soon, I will have all the Dragonball series complete from DB to DBZ to DBGT including all the extra stories...』

    (Can't Wait)
『I bought season one and it is GREAT. I have watched them all through with Japanese audio and subtitles. I am buying this as soon as it comes out』
『The search for the seven magic balls continues!

After meeting his match in the World Martial Arts Tournament, Goku embarks on a mission to recover the Four Star Dragon Ball that once belonged to his grandfather. His treacherous quest will take him from the terrifying heights of Muscle Tower to the darkest depths of the deep blue sea. But with the Flying Nimbus under his feet and Bulma’s Dragon Radar leading the way – there’s nothing mighty Goku can’t handle.

With a dangerous new adversary out to get him, this will be Goku’s most dangerous adventure yet. The sinister Red Ribbon Army, led by cigar-chomping Commander Red, is determined to seize the seven Dragon Balls and use them to conquer the world! Watch as colonels, generals, ninjas, android pirates, and giant pink monsters use every dirty trick in the book to stop Goku from getting his hands on the magic Dragon Balls!

Enjoy the next chapter in the saga of this legendary warrior with Dragon Ball: Season Two!』

『The eighth and penultimate season ofDragon Ball Zpits the Z Fighters, the Supreme Kai, and his attendant Kibito against the evil wizard Babidi, who hopes to release the monster Buu, which his father Bibidi created. (The names are apparently a back-handed salute to Walt Disney'sCinderella.) Goku, who's technically dead but still visting from the Other World, joins Vegeta and Gohan in the initial fights against Babidi's minions. As the battles escalate, Babidi use Vegeta's overweening pride to entrap the Saiyan Prince and turn him against his allies. It's all Goku can do to win Vegeta back, and the energy loosed in their stand-off enables Babidi to free Buu. Instead of one of the over-muscled behemoths the Z Fighters usually tackle, Buu is an obnoxious, infantile creature who looks like a sumo wrestler molded out of pink marshmallows. But he's incredibly powerful and resilient: even the Saiyans can't defeat him. Goku realizes only one warrior can destroy Buu: Goten and Trunks in their Super-Saiyan forms must fuse to form anüber-hero. The boys initially balk, as the Dance of Fusion looks and feels silly. But Gohan and Picollo whip them into shape and the formidable Gotenks appears.Season 8offers much more action and excitement than the World Tournament story that takes up most ofSeason 7. But unlike the earlierDBZadventures, theBabidi&Majin Buu Sagasend on a cliffhanger, with the fate of the Earth and its inhabitants hanging in the balance.
