(Witchblade: The Complete Series)
『The Series was not particularly deep, but it was sexy and fun. It was pretty cool visually, with heavy innuendo (e.g., cleavage, crotch shots and the morning after scene) which led me to wonder about the intended audience. This could cause some adults to think twice about using this as a stocking stuffer.
The storyline provided a relatively good time, providing just enough intrigue to keep the viewer wanting to know what lied ahead for our heroine. Kudos to Funimation for the presentation. If there were anything lacking (in my estimation), I'd say it would have been the lack of supplemental material typically offered with boxed sets. If you're a fan of the series or you enjoy scenes with scantily clad women, dispatching a variety of villainous types, this would definitely be worth purchase or a rental. At $57.00, the set is a bit pricey. A quick search on Amazon could save the potential buyer nearly half off the list price (if you don't mind used goods).』

(Poignant and wonderfully bittersweet)
『That's not something I'd usually say about an anime, but Witchblade certainly merits it. This is, at the most basic level, a wonderful story about a mother's love, and what it really means to be a mother, all very cleverly wrapped up in an action packed anime full of hot, busty women in skimpy outfits. In fact the underlying thread is so well woven that it will sneak up on you if you're not careful. I'm the emotional type and I'm not ashamed to say that Witchblade moved me to tears, and if you're like me, have a good supply of tissues on hand -- but don't miss this one!』

(Surprisingly Epic)
『I often passed over this anime, fearing it would contain more fan service than actual content. On a whim, I started watching it on YouTube. After four episodes I was hooked. This is one of those animes where you find yourself staying up way later than you should as you keep telling yourself "Just one more DVD and then I'll go to sleep"; needless to say I watched the whole thing in one sitting.

The story and characters are fantastic, both the former and latter are deep and draw you in. The animation is superb (fair warning: there is a lot of fan service).

The product itself is contains 6 art/story inserts, and is 5 DVDs. The first 4 DVDs each contain 6 episodes. The last DVD contains trailers and commentary. When you load the first 4 DVD discs, a preview will play that you cannot fast forward or hit DVD menu for; if you hit title menu, it will break you out and to the main screen. The DVDs are packed in a fairly slim case consisting of four panels when fully opened. The first panel is an episode list. The second panel contains one DVD. The third and fourth panels each contain two dvds, stacked and offset so as to not damage each other. Overall, I am very pleased with the packaging of this anime.

I highly recommend this anime. You will not be disappointed.

One final note: This anime is violent, contains adult themes, and contains a high level of fan service. I do not recommend it for children.

(Wow! A really fun anime)
『Watched this with my daughter and it was fun with a great soundtrack, story and artistry.』

(Ended to soon.)
『When this series first came out I didn't pay any attention to it. About two months ago my older brother bought the box set and he loved it and a week ago he let me borrow it. The anime is loosely based off the comic which I read and really liked. Still I wasn't expecting to much from the series but I was wrong.

The story was very good. Focusing on the mother (Masane) and daughter(Rihoko) relationship. The Witchblade plays a secondary role in the anime which I thought was good. The two problems with the story was the back story of the blade which they never even hinted at. The biggest problem though was the ending. It was plain terrible, you can tell it was rushed. I know there are many reasons a anime series ends to soon. From being unpopular to running out of money, but they could have at least tried to make a coherent ending. They should have extended it to 26 episodes that would have been more than enough time to give a ending to the series.

Perhaps the best part of the series were the characters. Masane and Rihoko were great as mother and daughter. They brought the emotion to the series and you end up really caring for them. The other characters from Reiji, Hiroki, Shiori and the rest all add something to the series.

The animation done by GONZO was brilliant, but what do expect from one of the best anime studios. The music was also outstanding.

Overall a great anime worth watching, but prepare to be a little let down with the ending.』

『Sought by the greed of Men since the dawn of Humankind, but only bestowed upon the woman whose fate it forever scars– The Witchblade. 『The fan-service adventureWitchblade(2006) is another trans-Pacific hybrid: a Japanese TV series based on an American comic. Masane Amaha and her obnoxiously precocious daughter Rihoko were discovered amid the ruins after an earthquake devastated 22nd century Japan. During the disaster, she somehow acquired the sentient ultimate weapon, the Witchblade. When Masane comes near an X-Con, a prototype cyborg made by Douji Industries from human cadavers, the Witchblade causes her to morph into a fighting fiend--in an outfit Pamela Anderson might wear in a sequel toThe Dark Knight. The Witchblade supposedly endows the wielder with "insatiable lust and unthinkable power," but Masane gets her exposed derrière kicked by women using Cloneblades, imitation Witchblades the Douji Group also created. Maria, the most powerful Cloneblader, emerges as a potential rival to Masane. When she decides to seize control of Douji Industries, the audience is left to wonder how and why she went from an undisciplined, infantile killer to a disciplined, mature killer. The inevitable duel between Masane and Maria atop Tokyo Tower suggestsHigh Noonwith implants. Masane triumphs over Maria and the power of the Witchblade in a finale that's simultaneously gory and mawkish. Although the convoluted plot stumbles along like Masane after a binge,Witchbladewill delight adolescent boys who want to watch fights between overendowed, under-dressed babes. In an accompanying interview, character designer/executive animation director Makoto Uno says, "We added a devilish element to the physical beauty of women and animated them with particular attention to the breasts and butt." No kidding. (Rated TV MA, suitable for ages 16 and older: violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, risqué humor, alcohol and tobacco use)--Charles Solomon

    (An Exciting Anime!)
『This is one of the best Anime I have ever watched. I first saw it while it was still in Japan. when I received this I was delighted to find that when you switch it over to watch it in Japanese they kept the original character voices. I love the plot and the character development. I love the idea of slowly gaining experience of the world around them.
This is a must watch Anime and I am waiting anxiously for the next volumes to be released.』

(Hunter x Hunter FINALLY makes its debut in America!)
『This all time favorite anime series of mine is finally making its debut in this 15 episode 3 disc set. And myself as well as many others can finally let out a cheer for it's release. This series follows the adventures of 4 main characters(Gon, Killua, Kurapica, and Leorio) and their quest of passing the Hunter Exams and becoming Hunters themselves. I can not recommend this series enough. If you do not want to blind buy go rent this. I am sure you will not regret it!!!』

(Not as good as the manga)
『I was very excited when the Hunter x Hunter anime series was going to be on sale in the U.S. I am a huge fan of the manga series and I expected great things from the anime, but I was disappointed. The series is filled with nothing but filler episodes and small sections in the manga's story chapters get turned into entire episodes and the episode feels 'dragged out.' An example of this is in episode 1 when Gon needs to catch the master of the swamp so he can apply to the hunter exam. In the manga, this is easily covered in five pages, but in the anime its dragged out into an entire episode that makes the ordeal very emotional and places huge emphasis on Gon's fishing rod, which is non-existent in the manga. Filler episodes are frequent between the episodes. In the second episode, instead of having Gon go directly to the ship for the hunter exam, a filler episode is given in which Gon and Leorio team up to save some animals and barely make it to the ship on time. I believe that an anime is not entitled to follow the manga series by the book and that the director is allowed to interpret the manga as they see fit (an example of this being done well is in the 'Bleach' anime) but I don't think that's the case here. The plus side of the anime is hearing the correct pronunciation of the characters names which I practically have been saying wrong since I became a fan of the series. Aunt Mito's role is increased a bit, I always felt that as Gon's foster mother she could have had a bigger role and she was kind of ignored in the manga. If your an absolute fan of the series then there is no stopping you and this anime is a must have. But if you are strictly an anime person, I suggest you skip this purchase and buy something else.』

(A fun anime adventure series that features a lot of action and a lot of heart!)
『The `HUNTER X HUNTER' series is one of the most popular and long-running manga series in Japan. Written and designed by Yoshihiro Togashi (creator of `Yu Yu Hakusho'), the manga series began in 1998 and is still ongoing to this day.

As for the animated series, the 62-episode TV series which was shown on FUJI TV began in October 1999 and ended in March 2001.

As the series is celebrating its 10th Year Anniversary, it's fitting that finally one of Japan's beloved anime series makes its way to the US with a 15-episode vol. 1 box set courtesy of Shonen Jump Home Video.

The first volume focuses on a young boy named Gon who is rescued by a hunter, Kite.

Kite is looking for another fellow Hunter named Ging Freecss. A man that Kite served as an apprentice for who has a gift of being able to communicate with animals but also a reputation of being one of the greatest hunters ever.

Kite learns that Gon has the same abilities as Ging and wants to learn more about this young boy and discovering that Gon, may be the son of the well-known hunter.

Gon was told his father died long ago but learns that he is still alive and immediately wants to follow his father's footsteps by becoming a hunter and also hoping he can find and meet his father.

A hunter is a person who is granted special privileges in the world. They can roam in areas that the public is not allowed to visit, they can go to establishments without having to pay for it, they have a license to hunt and do other jobs that are only specific to those who have a hunter's license.

But not everyone can become a hunter. Only a few become hunters and in this case, only one hunter can be chosen. Also, to make it more challenging, only a few make it past certain tests. But for Gon, he is determined to follow his father's footsteps and will do what it takes to become a hunter.

Gon is different from other hunters since he was raised by a loving relative and lived in a village where there has not been much strife or conflict, so he is a bit naive about the world around him. In fact, his motivation in becoming a hunter is so opposite of what other hunters are wanting it for. But Gon's pure and positive attitude seems to have an effect on the people that he meets.

As for Gon, he has the ability to communicate with animals like his father and carries a fishing pole that acts like a weapon and helps him swing to different areas. He is also learning more and more about his abilities as he continues on in his hunter training with his friends.

Along the way, he meets three others who will be taking the hunter exam and the four form a friendship and become a circle of friends helping each other out. Gon befriends:

Leorio - Gon meets Leorio, a man who wears a business suit and sunglasses who has a hot temper but has a good heart. He seems to want to be a hunter because of money but why he wants the money is explained in this first volume. Leorio is a great fighter and if his hunger is full, he exhibits tremendous strength.

Kurapika - Gon meets Kurapika while traveling on ship to another island. Kurapika tends to get at odds with Leorio in the beginning because both have different reasons for wanting a Hunter license. For Kurapika, his motivation to get a hunter's license is for revenge and it is explained during his storyline on volume 1. Kurapika is intelligent, a balanced fighter and also is a conjurer and specialist with the ability to materialize objects with his imagination.

Killua Zoldyck - The fourth member of the team is Killua, a mysterious boy that finds Gon's purity interesting and thus immediately, because of how Gon is, Killua immediately becomes friends with the three. Killua comes from an upbringing of an assassin and is a trained killer. He somewhat has a split personality. He can be seen as a happy, young person intrigued by people but when in battle, he can turn and become a deadly individual who enjoys the thrill of killing. Killua is learning to control himself and his weaknesses as shown in this first volume.

The first volume is literally an introduction to the four friends who want to become hunters and during their adventures of traveling to a variety of islands and areas, are faced with immediate and deadly challenges that they must be prepared for. You learn of their motivations of becoming a hunter but how they learn to help each other in achieving success during their long training.

    VIDEO&AUDIO:

The animation of "HUNTER X HUNTER" has similarities to Togashi's other popular work "Yu Yu Hakusho" in terms of character designs. Also, with the series created back in 1999, you expect to see quality of a TV anime series created in the 90s completely different to the digital colorful quality of anime TV series of today. So, you do get noise on the video as would be expected from an older animated TV series.

But for an anime TV series created in the late 90s, you get a lot of shading through the backgrounds and dungeon areas. You get to see the luscious backgrounds painted. The cool aspect of "HUNTER X HUNTER" animation-wise is that the main characters are continually on the move, so you get something different with each episode in terms of scenery and backgrounds.

I watched the series in both Japanese (with English subtitles) and via English dub. Both voice acting tracks are well done and as for the English dub, I've always felt that VIZ media are typically on top of their selections for voice actors with series like "Naruto", "Bleach" and "Death Note". The same can be said for "HUNTER X HUNTER", the voice actors for Gon and friends are well done.

I typically dislike children or teenagers who sound too much older than they are in anime series but I'm happy that the voice acting was well done for Gon and the others.

    SPECIAL FEATURES:

There really isn't much in terms of extras. You get a trailer for Shonen Jump Manga, Shonen Jump Home Video but fortunately you can find the production storyboards (a total of 15).

I suppose that the theme of a young boy and his friends trying to get a license can be compared to a series like "Pokemon" but with "HUNTER X HUNTER", there are no monsters being caught and although Gon is a young guy, pure-at-heart, his friends are trying to overcome their own personal issues from their past.

But what makes "HUNTER X HUNTER" a fun series is the fact that you have four individuals who are so different from each other, they learn about themselves and about others through their friendship. Having to work as a team during their training and their adventures and knowing that not many people make it far in their training.

The first volume focuses more on the character development on each character and their team dynamics. But with so many episodes still left in the series, you can only expect that the adventures will become more difficult, challenging and that the storyline will continue to get even more wilder and interesting as it progresses.

With the odds against them, instead of working as individuals, the four work as a team despite their differences and with a storyline that features a good balance of humor, action but also some seriousness, "HUNTER X HUNTER" is an enjoyable adventure-based anime series thus far.』

    (I want to cry)
『I can't believe Hunter x Hunter the anime has finally crossed over to the US waters. This is my top most favorite anime of all time, and the gateway anime that lead me to the anime addiction I now bare.

As mentioned by one of the other reviewers, if you are looking for a story with great character development, enough action and a great story, the first anime I will always recommend is hunter x hunter.

『Hunters are a special breed, dedicated to tracking down treasure, magical beasts, and even humans. But such pursuits require a license, and less than one in a hundred thousand can pass the grueling qualification exam. Gon might be a country boy, but he has high aspirations. Despite his aunt's protest, Gon decides to follow in his father's footsteps and become a legendary Hunter. The journey begins on the long, arduous road to the Exam Hall, where he meets Leorio and Kurapika, two applicants with the same determination. Gon and his two companions must now prove their worth and earn the right to call themselves Hunters!

Contains episodes 1-15/ Bilingual (English and Japanese) with optional English subtitles

『The broadcast series ofHunter X Hunter(1999) was the first adaptation of the long-running manga by Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator ofYu Yu Hakusho; three OVA sequels and stage versions came later. Gon, the 12-year-old hero of the popular adventure, wants to follow in the footsteps of his absent father and become a Hunter. To obtain the requisite license for this demanding profession, he and hundreds of other applicants must undergo a rigorous and often deadly battery of tests that demand stamina, dexterity, intelligence, and imagination. As he begins the exams, Gon makes three friends with complimentary skills that enable them to overcome the obstacles. Aspiring doctor Leorio provides first aid; Kurapika carefully analyzes situations; the scion of a family of assassins, Killua possesses deadly knowledge. What half-pint Gon lacks in size, he makes up in speed, agility and pluck. His father's old fishing rod is the only weapon he needs. In the first episodes, the mismatched quartet tackles challenges that range from seeing through an elaborate ruse to killing and roasting gigantic wild pigs. The endless squabbles between Leorio and Kurapika provide comic relief. Unlike the brawling Yusuke inYu Yu Hakusho, Gon has a reflective side that balances his enthusiasm. He's not as funny as Yusuke, but he's more likable. Gon recognizes that a hypothetical question on a test could pose a serious ethical dilemma in the real world, a thought that would never occur to Yusuke.Hunter X Hunterhas been eagerly awaited in the US, andotakuwill find this highly entertaining series was worth the wait. (Great Product)
『Great product, all episodes but not the movies. If you get this, buy The end of evangelion, not death and rebirth.』

(Updated visuals/audio (from the Platinum) + extras)
『The Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Perfect Collection is the best DVD set to get if you don't already own an Evangelion DVD set. This set has the UPDATED visual and audio transfers from the previous Platinum release. But it also has the extra features that were not found in that Platinum release (which was pretty much a barebones release). So if you don't already own a set, this Platinum Perfect collection is the best one to get.』

    (amazing anime)
『saw this anime on the anime network a long time ago and i must say its deeply amazing, the action in this is top noch.』

    (Buy the other box set!!!)
『I agree with A. Andrew "PartyInMyMouth", I bought it because I thought the extras would worth it, and I never had a box set from NGEvangelion before, if you are for the episodes themselves, buy the cheaper box set wich comes with the director's cut, and you will save your money from buying something that does not have anything great that won't come in the cheaper box set.
Ps: this 2 stars is for the series, the package deserve ZERO.』

    (The Apocalypse of Evangelion)
『I love this anime a lot. It is my second favorite anime, second only to "Princess Mononoke." I love this anime for its representation of oppression.

In the series, Shinji, Rei and Asuka are fighting against the evil Angels in their Evangelion robots. However, the pilots get psychologically scarred when the robots get hurt. Unlike Gundam, these suits of armor cause nothing but pain. The adults force the children to fight these powerful beings. And the pilots of the Angels could even be just like them.

The director of the series leaves many questions unanswered. However, there is one message that is clear. The apocalypse is coming for their hometown, New-Tokyo 3. The apocalypse is coming for the entire world in this series. In fact, the entire fate of the world rests in the hands of NERV, the corporation in charge of destroying angels. NERV is funded by SEALE. And the progression of NERV and SEALE's Instrumentality Project could put the entire world in jeopardy.

It's not hard to see why Evangelion is one of the most revered series in Japan. This series exposes the problems of elitism in Japan that still need to be resolved, even to this day. Despite the scientific mumbo-jumbo and the abstract ending, this series is awesome, and is not to be taken lightly.

    (New in Perfect Collection)
Perfect collection features all the special features that were excluded in the Platinum Complete collection. Although this is yet another new edition of the entire series, this is worth getting for either of the two reasons:
    1. I haven't seen Evangelion, but I want to watch it.
    2. I want all the director's commentaries and special features.』

The result is a mixture of 'Leave it to Beaver' meets 'I Love Lucy' (thanks primarily to Brak's father) meets 'The Flintstones' meets a blender, some cartoon violence and sub-standard humor, plus a constant barrage of musical interludes. The end result is not only an homage to both Space Ghost and the family-friendly sitcoms of the 1950's, but a unique and sometimes cerebral show that stands up on its own.

Perhaps we have grown tired of the Simpsons, or their emulators, and the numerous soapy situation comedies that seems to infect the airwaves like a virus. True, there are some winners (including, I think, the Simpsons), but it is always refreshing to take a step back from time to time to mock our media output with slight biting sarcasm, a touch of tribute, and mostly blatant mockery. The Brak Show offers this quite nicely.

A fifth star might have been added were the show to take a few more chances with itself and its subject matter. It seems to leave the viewer always wanting just a little bit more in terms of its tributes to classic TV favorites (and some not-so-favorite). I think the show's creators have done a wonderful job with this offering, and I thoroughly enjoy watching it over and over (it does have great replay value). Still, I just feel that they stopped right at the edge of doing something a little better. Bravo for what they did come up with, though!

The special features are somewhat extensive, and rather enjoyable to watch. I also like that Adult Swim did not slap their branding all over this DVD or the materials therein. There is hardly and advertising for other works of theirs, which I did appreciate. While I am an avid AS fan, I still believe that excessive marketing is a turn-off, especially in regards to a counter-culture experiment! This DVD is a refreshing offering, in those regards.

I would not recommend this for the youngest of kids, but there is little profanity (and nothing severe when harsher words are used; none of the 4-letter words that turn off some parents). There is a good deal of cartoon violence (Zorak tends to get blown up a lot), but no bloodshed and nothing that is realistially mimicable by today's children. I would feel comfortable letting those aged 8 and up watch this collection freely, though. Parents should get a great kick out of the obscure 'adult humor' as well (nothing overt, have no fear).

Bottom line, this is a great addition to any AS fan's collection, as well as lovers of animated comedy, fans of 50's primetime comedies, those who are looking for something different, and also a fairly family-friendly experience.』

    (Delightfully stupid)
『If you like what I call "stupid humor", you'll love Brak! If Adult Swim's comedy appeals to you, check this set out.』

(The last time I was this happy, I was face down in a pizza pie, eating my way to freedom!)
『Ok, it's very simple, I'm going to assume that you liked The Brak Show and that is why you are interested in buying the DVD. If you have never been introduced to that very special boy, then you have some catching up to do. That is if you enjoyed the other Adult Swim "Random-Comedy-That-Doesn't-Make-A-Lick-Of-Sense" line-up, then Brak might just be the funniest thing you will ever see.
It's very simple, I understand why alot of people are not interested in this type of comedy, and thats cool. But for some of us it's the funniest stuff on TV.
Anyway the DVD is awesome, Brak sings every menu to you and sometimes I think its funnier then the actual show. You get a bunch of Cartoon Planet and Space Ghost Coast to Coast extras...and theres even commentary! (The commentary is actually very lame and a waste of time.)
But all the rest is awesomeness. I haven't watched all of season two but I think this one might have been when Brak was at his best. And its a great DVD so, I'd recommend it.』

『What happens when two adults get together and have children? And what if those children grow up and go to school? That's the just-crazy-enough-to-work premise behind "The Brak Show." Also, Brak is in it.

    DVD Features:
    Audio Commentary
    Extended takes

『Long before his stint as an intergalactic pirate, and later, as an addled sidekick to Space Ghost onCartoon PlanetandSpace Ghost: Coast to Coast, Brak was just a naïve, feline-esque kid living with his parents, his pal/nemesis, the evil mantis Zorak, and a massive warrior robot neighbor in the suburb of Spacetown. Fourteen of his misadventures have been compiled on this weird and frequently hilarious two-disc set, which also features a bundle of extras, all highlighted by Brak’s irrepressible need for song. Written and produced bySG: CTCwriters Jim Fortier and Pete Smith, and featuring several performers from that series as well (including Andy Merrill as Brak, C. Martin Croker as Zorak, and George Lowe as Brak’s Dad),The Brak Showechoes its predecessor’s penchant for absurd, stream-of-consciousness comedy; episodes hinge around Brak putting on a musicial ("Psychoklahoma," featuring Charo!), rescuing his mom from a lovesick alien blob ("Mobab"), a staring contest ("The Eye"), and using a time machine to finish his homework ("Time Machine").If the premises seem too silly for words, the writing and performances (especially Merrill and Croker) are both giddy and clever, and in a very odd way, accurately evoke the anything-goes imagination of pre-teens. The show’s credit sequences, which spoof popular sitcoms from the past (Laverne and Shirley,Petticoat Junction), add another layer of quirky charm.

Volume 1 compiles the entire first season ofThe Brak Show, and tosses in three episodes from Season 2 for good measure (the episodes are presented out of their broadcast order); commentaries by Smith, Fortier, Merrill and Brak himself are featured on three episodes, while an odd audio-only radio play of an unaired pilot is heard over a fourth. Clips from his short-lived variety show,Brak Presents The Brak Show Starring Brak, and a terrific 20-minute barrage of his best moments fromCartoon PlanetandSG: CTC, round out the extras. So much Brak in a single package may be too much for the casual fan, but for the Brak obsessive in your life, this will be comedy nirvana.--Paul Gaita

(a great value for what its worth: Naruto season 1 part 1)
『this review like my other reviews will be in 2 parts, packaging and content(fyi: this is my first review for amazon.)

    PACKAGING
this set is contained in a double wide dvd case. (pretty much a dvd case that is as big as 2 dvd cases.) it houses the disc in its own little "page". that has 2 discs on each "page". this is 6 discs long, and there are about 4 episodes to a disc. its not a greatly impressive package. (an example of an impressive package would be the first 3 bleach boxsets)

    CONTENT
this set has alot for one boxset, containing the first 1 1/2 arcs (the 1/2 represents the "intro" arc that is like the first 6 episodes) the definite highlight of the boxset is the zabuza/haku fights, they are really exciting for the first arc. the fights do take a little long, but at least it doesnt take as long as dbz... there are obvious nods to classic shonen in it's original story structure. ( the "i will be the best" kinda thing") nonetheless, naruto gets off to a good start in this boxset, and it only gets better from here....well until the filler settles in at least!

overall:BUY. its only about 20 dollars and the story kicks off to a good start!

    (Nice and concise)
『This case is a standard double-wide DVD case. The art is just slipped behind the clear plastic sleeve. No need to worry about scuffing up a sleeve or cardboard fold out packaging. This does not include any booklets, pamphlets, or other paperwork. The only thing inside is the six DVDs. Each one is a different color with a different character on it. This case is a standard six-disc DVD case, each disc is on it's own 'page' that you can flip, similar to the case seen here [...]

Picture and sound quality are nice and clean. This dvd has a 4:3 picture, and you can choose either English or Japanese audio (with subtitles.

I would have given 5 stars if it included more fanboy items, like an artbook or something, but I honestly can't complain.』

(Devil May Cry: The Complete Animated Series)
『I bought this for my son on his 18th birthday and he loved it. He is very much into the video games of the same title and this tied in well with those video games. He loves it.』

    (Great idea bad exection)
『I had big hopes for this show even after the first couple episodes, but it never did deliver and it just all fell flat on its face. none of the story ever really makes sense and barely even tries to explain itself. its all just a discombobulated crap fest, and should not be viewed by fans of anime, or the video games. spend your money on better series not this one.』

    (A Fluffy Let Down)
『If you think 23 dollars is a good deal: the show is only 13 episodes in length. I knew by the second episode when Dante had recruited a little girl for a side kick that it was going to be terrible, and yet for some reason i watched the rest of this show. I really wish i didn't.』

    (Its About Time......)
『after holding off on getting the series for over a year now. Its good to see that they finally released all three volumes in a compleate series box set as a reasonable price. Before this set came out, the only way to adquire this series was to purchase the three volumes separtly for $2o a piece (vol 2 for $30 if ya get vol 2 with the box so you can fit all three volumes.) As far as fairness to the video games, it does lack in action. but its still worth a look. :o)』

(This IS NOT like the Video Game)
『I would like to start off by re-itterating that this show is not at all like the video game. There is no action other than still shots and when there is any good action it is usually very short lived and not very satisfying at all. Its hard to write a review of any good length on such a shallow show. It turns the video game dant into a hapless, always poor individual who is always scraping for money by doing jobs in which he gets screwed out of getting paid for. The end of the show is even worse in which it has a big build up but the final battle is a complete let down. Very rarely in this show will you see the badass, yet cheesy as hell dante. The rest of the time your stuck with the typical japanese stereotype of a hapless hero who always gets screwed out of his money yet is still 'cool.'』
『Studio: Funimation Prod Inc Release Date: 08/25/2009 Run time: 300 minutes』
『The violent fantasy-adventureDevil May Cry(2007) is based on the popular Playstation 2 game. Dante, the taciturn, perenially broke anti-hero of the program, lives on pizza, beer, and strawberry sundaes. He spends his time slouched on a couch reading trashy magazines. But when someone brings a case to the Devil May Cry Detective Agency, he goes into action--he needs the money. Everyone's problems can be traced back to the demons that infest wherever it is the show takes place. Using pistols and a broadsword, Dante swiftly reduces his foes to so much demon tartare. Rounding out the cast are Lightning and Lady, two allied demon fighters, and blonde orphan Patty. When the originalDevil May Crygame was released, critics complained that the characters were underdeveloped, a problem that carries over to the series. Dante may be murderously competent, but he's so understated, he leaves a vaccuum at the center of the show. He lacks the complexity and appeal of his obvious models, Spike Speigel inCowboy Bebopand Vash the Stampede inTrigun. Lightning and Lady exist only to provide fan service shots, and Patty's obnoxious fussing seems to be someone's notion of comic relief.Devil May Crywill appeal to hormonal adolescent boys and hardcore fans of the game; viewers in search of a stylish, engaging anime series should look elsewhere. (Rated TV MA: suitable for ages 16 and older: considerable violence, violence against women, grotesque imagery, profanity, potentially offensive religious and sexual content, alcohol and tobacco use)--Charles Solomon

(If you love vampires with a touch of history......)
『I wasn't really into anime until I heard about this collection from a friend; he gave a little discription and I was curious, so I bought it to give it a whirl. Wow! I wasn't disappointed! It's alot of history mixed in with vampire lore, which draws you in and make you want to take a closer look. At first, I thought Abel Nightroad(the main character) was just a bumbling priest until I saw him turn into a crusnik. Then, I was like; okay..... I can get into this. The anime is excellent, the story lines draw you in and some of the characters you'd love to hate. If you realy like vampires/vampire hunters, then this may be the anime for you.』

    (Good Stuff)
『This is a high quality anime. You have vampires, priests, action, drama, and lots of blood. It is definitely worth getting if you can find it for a good price.』

(A anime with promise, but failed miserably)
『I feel like I'm watching Trigun all over again and this time I hate it.

The one thing I hate about anime is that the keep recycling shows over and over again. Gundam copies from the previous series over and over again. All romance anime copy from each other. I know, I know most people who've watched enough anime already know this. I don't always have a problem with it.

For example Gundam Seed, it copies the almost exact story line from the orginal Mobile Suit Gundam which came out over 20 years ago. I gave it a 8, it gave me a couple of new things to keep me watching. That's what I want from a show that almost copies everything from a differnt anime. Now to a show that doesn't. For example Gundam Seed Destiny. It compies everything from Moble Suit Gundam and Gundam Seed, and does the same thing in every episode with nothing new to the story. It also goes on for another 50 episodes, I mean come on. This show was a complete waste of time. That's why I gave it a 1.

I just need to explain one of the reasons why I am giving Trinity Blood a 1. Trinity Blood is a rip off of Trigun. When Trigun came out in 1998 it was original anime. I've never seen anything like it before then. I gave it 5 stars, and even now it's one of the best anime I've seen, I still watch it at least once a year. Trinity Blood is just Trigun recycled eight years later. Able Nightroad is a exact copy of Vash. He acts the same and has the same past. I truly like the story of a kingdom of Vampires and humans living right beside each other. If they made a anime about that it could have been great, but instead they made it about Able aka Vash, and it turned into crap. I would recommend you skip this show and instead see what Trinity Blood copied from a classic in Trigun.』

(My Favorite anime So far only FLCL comes close.)
『I first fell in love with Trinity blood when it was airing late night on Cartoon Network a few years ago. I finally broke down and bought it this past month and I dont regret it. Who doesn't love a gothic story that flows around the life of a thousand year old guilt ridden post apocalyptic genetically engineered Catholic Vampire Priest Cyborg developed for the Mars colonization project. The main character Able is a wonderful mix of reticent power and the child like playfulness of a kind self confident soul burdened by guilt form past deeds and the determination to atone for his sins.

Trinity blood is an exceptional distillation then blending of Catholicism, idealism, gothic subculture, romanticism, the awe and attraction of fallen ancient civilizations, Technophilia, and humanity. It has oh so many wonderful elements and they fit well together. There is little I can say that hasn't been said in earlier reviews. Except that of all the characters development I would say that Brother Pedro's is the most stunning. Even though he's not as present as the others his first introduction as a single minded religious fanatic known as the "Knight of Annihilation," a man willing to strike down friend or foe in order to "do gods bidding" and the man in charge of the Inquisitorial squad, his slow transition and awakening at the end of the series is one that seems all too rare in real life.

I recommend this series to all my technologically inclined Catholic friends and it's met with warm review.

    (just wonderfull!)
『Unfortunately there is an end that isn't the real end of this superb history. I hope that in the future (not very far) Abel and all of them will continue to fight in this excellent anime.』
    『Vampires and The Vatican?...Holy Hell!

Armageddon... The ultimate sin of humanity, perpetrated upon itself, which cast the shroud of death across the world centuries ago. And out of that lasting darkness, they emerged... From the legends of ancient times, they have been called forth into the world anew... Vampires.

Two races, Terran and Methuselah, human and vampire, are locked in a struggle for existence, trembling on the brink of war. Some seek the path to a peaceful coexistence, while others pursue a dangerous shift in the balance of power… And the world’s enemy, Contra Mundi, is starting to move. Cooperation and goodwill between the two races may be their only chance for survival.

Abel Nightroad, a touring priest for the Vatican, walks calmly where others fear to tread. A member of the formidable AX, tasked with the protection of the fragile equilibrium. Neither human nor vampire, with an awkward yet optimistic nature, this Father is a force wholly his own. When the greater threat emerges, the enemy of my enemy is my friend… And Abel Nightroad seeks a safe path for all.

This Trinity Blood Box Set Contains:

  • All 6 volumes of the series
  • 4 collectible tarot cards featuring original Japanese artwork
  • limited edition 4-volume 24-page insert booklet filled with exclusive information including Japanese cast interviews, concept art, and much more.』
『A mixture of sci-fi and supernatural elements, the 2005 broadcast seriesTrinity Bloodtakes place in the far future, when humans and vampires vie for control of the Earth. Abel Nightroad is an itinerant priest and agent for AX, the covert branch of the Holy Office. But when a real threat appears, he transforms into an uber-beast who feeds on the blood of vampires. As he fulfills his duties, Abel is joined by Sister Noélle (sic) and assorted other agents. The storyline wanders aimlessly: The tale of a series of murders and assaults on cathedrals peters out, and a new narrative about a sinister archbishop's plot to destroy Rome with a "silent noise" device develops. Before that story is resolved, Abel is off to Carthage and Constantinople, where he prevents Department of the Inquisition agents from interfering in delicate negotiations between the Vatican and the Empire. This overwrought fantasy eventually reaches a baroque finale that includes murder victims returning from the dead; aerial battles; CGmecha; creatures who are angelic, demonic, or possibly both dueling in the skies; and a veritable blizzard of symbolic feathers. The combination of gothic fantasy and potentially offensive pseudo-Catholic mumbo-jumbo recallsHellsing(2001), on which the series was obviously modeled. Although it's relentlessly silly and over the top,Trinity Bloodremains popular with fans of vampire anime who prefer flashy visuals to coherent narratives. (Rated TV MA, suitable for ages 16 and older: graphic violence, violence against women, gore, grotesque imagery, tobacco and alcohol use, offensive religious imagery)--Charles Solomon

    (simply wonderful)
『i adore this anime series. yuko is such an inspiration. the art direction is so exquisite you could frame prints and hang them on your wall. the theme songs are fun. the stories are simple and yet sometimes manage to be deeper than any network drama on tv these days.
moody and atmospheric. not for those who are looking for bang-em-up action.』

(english dub is better for this anime)
『this is a great series, i think the characters were more developed in the english dub version... this is unusual since i typically like the japanese dub most times... hopefully kei will come out in english as the series is not as entertaining to me for some reason in japanese...』

(An Acquired Anime For Some But Still Entertaining Just The Same)
『While the series is packed with story-lots of ghost, psychic phenomenon/abilities, and the occult it's neither to dramatic or bloody to dissuade anyone from checking the series out. The one thing that I had to get use to was the animation, while not bad it seems the standard for the Clamp series anime shows similar to Tsubasa the series making the characters almost rail thin with long arms and legs with the exception of giving the female characters a little more pronouncement with the cleavage but in all it's nothing to terrible to complain about and the story itself is to entertaining to really argue about. The voice cast for the Japanese actors/actresses were of course very great and the cast that Funimation got for the series were incredible as well. The series won't have the battles and death scenes like Hellsing or Tsubasa so if you're expecting that kind of show you might want to pass this over, but if you're into the more alluring series where you have the characters very well told and with a very decent story-line for a series here's a good catch to check out.』

    (No Kei)
『For all who know that there are two seasons of xxxHOLIC, this contains only season one. Which is a great season, lots of Watanuki and Yuko time. Doumeki and Himawari are there as well. I haven't listen to the english voices so I can't say how well the dub was done, but I do enjoy the subtitles.

For those who were hoping that the "complete series" would contain the second season, xxxHOLIC Kei, it is not here. Hopefully Funimation will bring it out in a box set soon, as the other distributor discontinued before it was finished, or really even begun good.

I'll still rate it five stars because the price was really good, and the show is excellent. I'll just keep waiting for Kei.』

    (Careful what you wish for)
『Kimihiro Watanuki is an all-around nice guy who would give anyone the shirt off his back. Unfortunately for him, life often isn't fair; and in addition to being an orphan he's plagued by having an aura which attracts often malicious creatures from the spirit world but no ability to protect himself from them. One day, he finds himself in the shop of the mysterious, all-powerful witch Yuko, who tells him that if he basically becomes her indentured servant for a period of time she'll give him the solution to his problem - and Watanuki has reached the point where he's just become desperate enough to agree.

Yuko's solution for Watanuki is for him to seek out his schoolmate Domeki, the calm, collected star of his school's archery team who just so happens to be a natural exorcist - and incidentally the one person Watanuki can't stand due to insane jealousy largely stemming from Domeki being on friendly terms with Watanuki's crush, the lovely, sunny Himawari. Domeki, however, seems more focused on keeping Watanuki in one piece than hitting on Himawari...

So begins Watanuki's journey to end his problem and, because he's a very good person, try to help some of the other customers who come to Yuko's shop - if he doesn't get himself killed first.

The first thing that fans of the Holic manga will notice is that some of the events have been switched around in the anime, which might disorient them a bit but isn't really a huge problem at this point, as the story doesn't start to become too linear yet (it does beginning with the events presumably covered by the as yet unlicensed second season). They'll also notice that all references to what is concurrently happening to the Tsubasa gang have been cut (Tsubasa fans will recognize Watanuki from his brief cameo at the very beginning of Tsubasa), and the Warashi girls have been added to enough scenes to upgrade them to borderline recurring characters rather than guest stars. As with the Holic movie (A Midsummer Night's Dream), the English dub is particularly strong. Sometimes the stars align, and Todd Haberkorn pretty much nails how I heard Watanuki in my head while reading the manga: making us laugh when he goes into houseboy mode, want to slap him upside the head when he's horrid to Domeki, and breaking our hearts in the final stories of this season. His co-star Colleen Clickenbeard equals him with a pitch-perfect, sultry Yuko; and J. Michael Tatum does fine as Domeki, who is arguably the most difficult character in the series to voice as a boy who's just as good and feels just as deeply as Watanuki but tends to show it in actions rather than words. Even minor characters are voiced extremely well.

All in all, I can heartily recommend this to Holic fans and anyone else who wants to try a supernatural tale.

    (Great Set.)
『not too much difference what others have said. this dvd set is a great set to watch. it does have a little humor on some parts which is great.』

    (A hidden gem!)
『This series has a humorous side that is hilarious most of the time but occasionally annoying. However, the serious side more than makes up for these shortcomings. If you are looking for a complex plot or lots of action then pass on this series. If you like an emotional, character driven story then this one is for you. Almost every episode has affirmations, tidbits of wisdom and touching scenes. And that's because the series is really about the healing process people who have suffered from tragedies, abuse, etc. go through on the road to recovery and even how to live life. This is one of those hidden little gems that, once found, sparkle so brightly in the sunlight.』

    (Fruits Basket)
『The price was reasonable (cheaper at other online stores), though I do not like the way they do not describe what "Veridian" meant, and ended up with an entire extra set of the first collection of Fruits Basket. I am happy with the delivery time, it was very quick, but the condition of the DVD boxes was uspetting. All of the center pieces that click the discs in place are broken. I am not happy about that.』

    (They're ANIMALS)
『Imagine if you moved in with a new family and friends... and found out they turn into animals when you hug them.

That's what Tohru Honda has to deal with in "Fruits Basket," the adaptation of Natsuki Takaya's hit manga. And the manga adaptation is a delightful one -- while the ending gets changed, it's still charming, quirky, slapsticky and sprinkled with darker moments.

Tohru is living in the woods, with only her late mother's photo for company. Exploring one day, she wanders down to a large house, and bumps into the owners: flirtatious Shigure Sohma, and his gorgeous cousin Yuki -- the school's mysterious "Prince." After Tohru becomes ill and her tent is destroyed, Yuki and Shigure take her into their home as their new housekeeper... especially since the place is a pigsty.

But Yuki and Shigure are keeping some strange secrets. When Kyo Sohma bursts in to fight Yuki, Tohru tries to stop him -- and the three turn into a dog, cat, and rat. Turns out the Sohma family is cursed with the spirits of the Chinese zodiac, and become those animals whenever they're hugged by a member of the opposite sex. Surprisingly, the mysterious family head Akito allows Tohru to stay with Yuki and Shigure, as long as the volatile Kyo also stays.

And soon Tohru becomes even more wrapped up in the Sohma family, and befriends many members of the zodiac. She, Yuki and Kyo must deal with crazed fanclubs, flamboyant brothers, school festivals, New Year's loneliness, Valentine's day woes, trips to the hot springs, visits to Tohru's mother's grave, and Yuki's band of loyal stalkers.

But Tohru also learns more about the curse -- the traumatic pasts that Momiji, Yuki and Kyo keep hidden, the little "tiger" girl who is bullied into silence, and Hatori's tragic romance. And finally Tohru discovers the horrific secret that Kyo is hiding, and the true role of the angry, violent Akito...

It takes a little while for "Fruits Basket" to get going, but after a few episodes it finds its footing and charges ahead like Kagura. Just don't expect it to really have an ending -- it doesn't end so much as stop, on a particularly moving story about Kyo and Tohru.

There's lots of romantic tension, slapstick fight scenes (usually involving Kyo and somebody else), quirky comedy (Ayame's kooky cosplay shop), and amusingly tongue-in-cheek dialogue ("Sometimes it feels like the whole world is conspiring to destroy my house!").

But while the anime is somewhat more lighthearted than the manga, there's also a melancholy side to the story, centering on a curse that is ruining its victims' lives. In the midst of the comedy, we get glimpses of Tohru's tragic past, the families torn apart by the curse, and the Sohmas' isolation from the rest of the world.

Tohru herself is the most lovable character of the bunch -- she has a lot of sorrow over her mother's death and the unkindness of some of her relatives, but she compensates with optimism and friendliness. She borders on Pollyannishness occasionally, but is balanced out somewhat by her oddball friends.

And the Sohmas rule as far as quirkiness is concerned -- there's the quiet "Prince" Yuki, the volatile loner Kyo, and the charmingly kooky Shigure. The rest of the family is even more eccentric -- the flamboyant, charming Ayame, Yuki's prodigal brother who is trying ineptly to mend fences. Not to mention the volcanic Haru, the tragic Hatori, and half-German, deceptively cheerful Momiji.

"Fruits Basket" is by turns hilarious and bittersweet, with plenty of wacky antics, sad backstories and quirky characters. Delightful from beginning to end.』

『The Sohmas are a family cursed, a curse which has led to their isolation for generations. When any single member of the family is embraced by a person of the opposite gender, they transform into an animal from the Chinese Zodiac! The Sohma’s have managed to keep this embarrassing little secret hidden for many, many years…

That is, until young Tohru Honda stumbles into their life. Inspiring some and infuriating others, Tohru manages to turn life in this most unusual household upside down as Zodiac rivals clash. But above all, she must promise to keep their secret as one of her own… Or face the consequences!
