EXELENT MOVIE I REALLY ENJOYIT WITH MY KIDS AND THEY LIKE IT TOO... HIGHLY RECOMENDED A +++++ ...』 (Astro Boy 2003) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I'm a person of few words, but I was very satisfied with the delivery speed and the condition of the package.』 (Love the series! But hope for an uncut release.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I saw the theatrical movie the day it came out and loved it, so went and bought the 1980s color remake version DVD set and this 2003 version DVD set. I gave this product 4 stars because the series itself is great and I would highly recommend purchasing it, but there are a few flaws with this DVD set that made it so I could not give it 5 stars. 1. My primary problem with this set is it does not have the option of Japanese with English translation subtitles that I prefer having while watching anime. 2. My next concern is there are several scenes missing throughout the episodes. Also most of the episodes are out of order, but that didn't bother me as much as the lack of Japanese language option and the missing scenes. --Many of the missing scenes I don't understand why they cut, like the scene in the second episode that explains why Astro sleeps even though he's a robot. --A couple more examples are: 1)the missing scenes of how Tobio died, Dr. Tenma finding Tobio after the car accident, and crying over his dead son (there's no blood/gore) in a couple episodes; 2)the episodes that had a brief flashback of when robot Tobio first wakes up and sees Dr. Tenma actually have more in which Dr. Tenma then hugs robot Tobio and robot Tobio calls him father. --In this DVD set Atlas is said to have always been a robot and is just remade, but in the uncut he was actually the man's son who died in an accident and Dr. Tenma agrees to make the robot with the boy's memories (like he did with Tobio). --Also, the episodes are originally in widescreen. --Even though I bought an import uncut copy (Japanese with English/Chinese subtitles) of the series I would still buy a domestic uncut release, partly because the translation subtitles on the import are not great quality and are a little hard to understand at times. 3. This I thought was funny more than a problem. When watching the episode "Dawn of the Techno-Revolution", which is completely made up of scenes from other episodes in the series, I saw a scene of Astro in front of a fountain with a boy that appeared to be in a wheel chair that does not fit with any of the other episodes. This scene is actually from an episode that was completely cut out and "Dawn of the Techno-Revolution" replaced. Why cut an episode and include a scene from it in the episode that they replaced it with? LOL --The cut episode has to do with Astro and his school friends watch a robot play of Peter Pan in a park and bring up the fact that Astro will never grow up. A man nearby has the robot fairy sprinkle dust on the kids watching, which allows him to hypnotize the kids that night. The hypnotized kids end up on a flying space craft that looks like a pirate ship. The man plans to use a device he built that will make it so the kids will never grow up and take the kids to a place in space he made to look like Neverland. Astro is trying to find his missing friends and meets a boy in a floating (wheel) chair in front of a fountain in the park who is also looking for missing friends. The two boys find the ship and rescue the kids who when no longer hypnotized tell what they want to be when they grow up and also tell Astro they will always be his friend even though he will never grow up. The following is the order the episodes play on the import uncut set: 01. Power Up! 02. Rocket Ball 03. Destination Deimos 04. Into Thin Air 05. Rainbow Canyon 06. Atlas 07. Astro vs. Atlas 08. Neon Express 09. Franken 10. The Venus Robots 11. Robot Circus 12. Reviving Jumbo 13. Little Sister, Big Trouble 14. Micro Adventure 15. Only a Machine 16. Robot Hunters 17. The Rise of Pluto 18. The Final Battle Thank you for reading my review, again I highly recommend this series and please support the release of an uncut DVD set for this series! =)』 (to reduce some confusion) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『to reduce confusion of Astro Boy DVD series, please note that there have been 3 series so far: the Black and White 1963 series, the 1980 First Color version, and the 2003 Color version with different stories. The black and white 1963 version has 193 episodes. The 1980 version has 52 episodes for the Japanese version, with the first and second episodes merged and cut into 1 episode as the US version. The birth of the character Atlas is removed in the US version. As a result, the US version only has 51 episodes. The 2003 version has 50 episodes. This version once again has one more episode in the Japanese version. The US version has 1 episode less, which is replaced by a "clip show episode". (probably meaning frame by frame). Personally, I think the 1980 version is slightly cuter than the 2003 version. The 2003 version is more lavish. Genre:Children's Video Rating:NR Release Date:4-APR-2006 Media Type:DVD』 『When Osamu Tezuka createdTetsuwan Atom(literallyIron-arm Atom) a.k.a. Astro Boy, he set his birthdate as April 7, 2003--51 years after the initial manga and 40 years after the groundbreaking television series debuted. Sony produced this third incarnation in 2003, and a few episodes aired on American TV in 2004. A combination of drawn and computer-generated animation, the new version is far more lavish than the initial black-and-white series or the 1980 color remake. The artists strive to preserve Tezuka's drawing style, keeping Astro's outsized eyes and Dr. O'Shay's pickle nose. Spaceships and other robots float effortlessly by, but Astro's legs shoot old-fashioned rocket flairs. The newly born Astro is a complete innocent, but as he explores various aspects of the world, he develops a strong sense of purpose, aiding those in need. His state-of-the-art brain includeskokoro, which can be translated as "heart," "spirit," or "will," which makes him more human. The conflict between humans and robots--which some critics have interpreted as a metaphor for racism distinguishes--escalates into a battle at the city of Robotonia in Antarctica. Astro strives to make peace between the hostile factions, although many of the conflicts were sparked by Dr. Tenma, who originally created him. Although visually appealing, this lush reinterpretation lacks the gritty charm of Tezuka's low-budget original. The only extra is a short "remaking of"; the dialogue is dubbed in English, Spanish, and Portuguese--but not Japanese. With a lot of talk of politics, it may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I promise that it makes up for it with drama, romance, intrigue, rather cool fighting scenes, and a great deal of humor. Laugh-out-loud funny, with a solid plot, and startling plot twists. The characters are simply amazing and well presented so that you can connect with them, some of whom have some rather fascinating oddities (one who always wears a mask, one who can get lost within two steps, etc), and you fall in love with all of them. Even the villains are fascinating and make you want to see more of them! The English dub, which I was rather worried about, is actually one of the better jobs I've seen done (good choice of voice actors as well). So I rate this a MUST see, it has something for everyone, you won't regret it.』 (Amazingly AWESOME!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I just bought this DVD box set. I watched the series a long time ago back when it first came out. I stopped watching the series because the second season was too long and I couldn't find them online. But when I saw it in FYE I just bought it because I missed it. BOY!!!! I fell in love with it again and I bought the series box set. It's worth it.』 (Saiunkoku Monogatari) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Amazing. This series has such beautiful art with a mix of Asian culture. Each character has his/her own personality which contributes to the story plot. They capture your heart and make you laugh time after time. Though most people say Funimation recycles their voice actors, they really kept close to the sound of the voice of the Japanese this time 'round. Though it's not very popular, I think a lot of people could get into this if they would just watch an episode.』 (A Sweeping Tale of Politics and Romance) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『The more anime a person takes in, the clearer it becomes that lumping all Japanese animation into a single classification is an absolutely ridiculous notion. A majority of the anime I find myself attracted to could almost be mistaken for some of the finer American made "cartoons" save for the fact that the DVDs contain the original Japanese vocal track. Enter The Story of Saiunkoku from Geneon, distributed through Funimation. Not only is the show overflowing with Japanese sensibilities and visual charm, it's built on a solid foundation of Asain culture so thoroughly that there's no mistaking its origin regardless of the language track to which you find yourself listening. Coming in at a whopping 975-minute runtime, The Story of Saiunkoku Complete Season One box set consists of 39 episodes spanning 9 discs. The packaging breaks it down into five thin pack cases housed in a charming cardboard outer slipcase. The show wears an appropriate if not slightly conservative TV 13&Up rating due to a few adult-themes (war, good versus evil on an epic scale), some light sexual innuendo (a king everyone thinks is homosexual), and a little bit of drama. Language options are typical sub&dub meaning both the original Japanese vocal track is present as well the choice of an English dub (either presented in Stereo) with the option of running English subtitles available with either vocal track. Extras include textless opening and ending themes and a host of Geneon anime previews on each and every one of the nine DVDs. The story, which has to be watched to be fully understood (or appreciated for that matter) goes something like this: Shurei, daughter of a broke aristocrat in fictional medieval country Saiunkoku has everything it takes to be a member of government except for the opportunity (because women are prohibited in this society). Her father, a glorified librarian with a title, discovers the opportunity of a lifetime for young Shurei as the king's personal consort. Using his influence, her father is able to secure the position so that Shurei can put her motherly instincts to good use (and hopefully secure some wealth in the process) by supervising the young (19 year-old) king of the nation while injecting a little motivation and ambition into his routine. Suspecting an arrogant and close-minded ruler, Shurei charges into the role only to discover a gentle, shy and insecure young ruler who just so happens to be of similar age. They strike up a solid relationship in no time, each forcing the other to change their view of members on such opposite sides of society's spectrum. King Ryuki, inspired by Shurei's knowledge, passion and ambition soon takes a more active role in the governing of his land while simultaneously providing Shurei an opportunity to put her skills to use despite the fact that women are not able to pursue such ambitions directly. Now I'm not sure whether or not that summary captures the scope of the prose, so I will follow it by saying that those expecting wild action scenes, hilarious dialog sessions, passionate lovemaking sequences or even a quick moving plot structure will probably be disappointed. The truth is that The Story of Saiunkoku is an anime piece that requires, in fact demands, a certain level of patience and commitment from its viewer if satisfaction is to be found. In other words it relies on very few gimmicks along the way to tell its tale and makes no apologies for doing so. The grand prose is methodic and evenly paced with character development taking the foreground of each episode. Sure there are moments sprinkled about that may earn a chuckle or build a little tension, but they serve to break the monotony of the show's rhythmic progression rather than to act as a selling point on their own. The visuals are an interesting blend of traits with character models absolutely rife with detail, occasionally at the expense of the backgrounds. Then just as quickly, that relationship can completely inverse with background art that is simply stunning to behold. Again though, the viewer gets a definite sense that the show's creators deliberately avoided going too far in any single direction that could possibly detract from the story being told. The fact that the first season consists of 39 episodes spanning nine DVDs should act as some indication to the type of pacing one is to expect. Almost like sipping hot coffee or sitting down to read the newspaper, Saiunkoku is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace and is a sort of acquired taste. Action junkies may be quick to dismiss the show once the opening narration (which is almost like something from Lord of the Rings) fades to a semi--contemporary setting where a young teacher tells the tale to her wide-eyed students and similarly diehard fans of the risqué will likely grow tired of waiting for lead character Shurei Hong and King Ryuki Shi to just hurry up and get it on. The viewer who will get the most from this series is most likely someone who enjoys Japanese culture and politics coupled to fantastic artwork and youthful protagonists. I wouldn't even think of suggesting that the show's for everyone but for the few it really is for, prepare to be impressed.』 (A Very Entertaining Series Of Feudal Times And The Might Of One Feisty Woman) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I've never seen the series Twelve Kingdoms but even without that this series will entertain most anime fans regardless if their more into the action or mecha animes. The series is a nice woven story of court life, the intrigue and political back dealings of the royal court, and the personal lives of the new emperor and his friends. The series main female character Shurei Hong a young female noble of an impoverished home whose dream is to be a governmental official but cannot because she is a woman finds a unique loophole when a powerful lord of the royal court makes her an offer, be the consort to the new emperor and teach him to be more refine and proper in the court since the scandal of his seemingly homosexual dalliances have caused quite a stir in the court. Along the way in her new position she meets new friends and new enemies in the court as the people in the shadows who wish to keep the emperor under their hold see her as a real threat to their power, but young Shurei has her own agenda as well as she wishes to show the young and seemingly somewhat naive emperor how the regular people live and how he should try and better their lives instead of just satisfying the nobles of the court. The series does have undertones of same sex relations but nothing hardcore and almost humorous in some cases, but if their are people who find that sort of thing offensive than this series is one they should pass over. The series has a nice touch of drama, humor, a little action, and a nice touch of romance(With a man and woman), the animation is very well done and the voice cast for the English/Japanese actors/actresses were great for their roles they voices in the series, The extras sadly aren't much just the usual trailers and textless intro/ending songs. The series for this set is all 39 episodes on nine dvds so for this price and how entertaining the series was this is a must have for any anime fan...』 『Saiunkoku is a country with eight powerful houses governed by one emperor. Much better more story than the Tokyo series and more cohesive than the OVA episodes. I've seen this Universe series from start to finish and i love it. Although i wish Kiyone was featured in the OVA episodes rather than her debut on the Universe series. But with the price compared to what they want for that expensive deluxe OVA dvd set (which i last saw at about 120.00 US dollars !!!) the Tenchi Universe series is a great place to start if you wanna get into the Tenchi Muyo series. I also like the fact that the show was split up into section or chapters of episodes. Like the intro episodes and then the Time&Space warp chapters, followed by the Space episodes that Tenchi and the gang go to Jurai to clear there names. Its a well rounded series and I wouldn't miss out on it. A excellent recommendation !!!』 (A great light-hearted series.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I just want to start off by saying if your trying to get into anime, this is a great start. I've probably watched this through twice and working on it a third time and its great. Its a really funny show and this show is absolutely beautiful to watch. Some of the scenes that are just show casing the surrounding area around Tenchi's house is extremely artistic. The characters are are drawn very well, Sasami and Ryo-Okhi are by far the cutist. The voice acting is pretty good, although I've read its not up to par with the Japanese version. The story isn't as far out in left field as some Japanese anime series. This series tries to ease you into the story and after for me after the first episode I knew I was going to like it. The little mini series where they are lost in time and space is excellent. Just so you know there is a little romance or love in this so in my case, even my wife liked this series. If your looking for a anime series to get into the genre, this is my recommendation. If you want a good series to watch this is it, its very light-hearted at first, extremely funny, and then about halfway through the plot it revealed and it gives the series a purpose.』 (Tenchi Universe) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Tenchi Muyo is a great show, especially for people who remember it from Toonami growing up. This particular series is a bit more silly and lighthearted when compared to the Tenchi Muyo Ryo-Ohki OVAs, with slight variations in character relationships and voice actors than previous series'. Nevertheless, it's entertaining.』 (Nostalgia) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『this show brings back so many memories. this is the type of show me and my sisters grew up on. thanks to Cartoon Network, i was able to watch this show when i was growing up. of coarse I was only 6 at the time, this and another anime, "Gundam Wing", introduced me to this new genre of animation. I can say that Tenchi was the first anime i had ever seen. this will be fun』 (Great series, but...) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I love this series, but my issue is with the DVD's themselves. Why are there so many? For a 26 episode 20 min. series there are 8 DVD's on a good box set e.g. Family Guy season one there are seven episodes on one DVD and that show is just as long. Other than that the quality is excellent.』 『Ryoko the Dreaded Space Pirate, Mihoshi the Galaxy Police officer, Ayeka the crown Princess of Jurai, and Washu the Greatest Scientific Genius in the Universe! What could these women of interstellar importance possibly have in common? Causing one ordinary high school boy to miss class... Come join the fun as Tenchi Masaki attempts to act as mediator to these out-of-this-world characters as they all fight for Tenchi's attentions. How much excitement can one guy take?』 『The broadcast seriesTenchi Universe(1995) remains the silliest and, probably, the funniest entry in the popularTenchi Muyo!("No Need for Tenchi!") franchise. Tenchi Masaki seems like a normal high school kid, living near the family shrine in Okayama. But any semblance of normalcy is shattered by the arrival of the outrageous space pirate Ryoko, followed by bubble-brained Galactic Police Officer Mihoshi. They're joined by Princess Ayeka of the planet Jurai and her sister Sasami; Mihoshi's long-suffering partner, Kiyoni; and batty super-genius Wasshu. Life is soon "like a carnival," as Tenchi says in a rare understatement. Tenchi's grandfather turns out to be the long-lost crown prince of Jurai. When Kagato seizes the throne, Tenchi must defeat him in a dramatic confrontation between good and evil. Before the battle, the plot careens along merrily, pausing for a trans-galactic beauty pageant and a harvest festival that's engulfed in a sea of pink goo when Mihoshi tries to operate a cotton-candy machine. At the end of the adventure, Tenchi sighs for the days when "life was like a carnival," but the peace that reigns in Okayama won't last. TheTenchiseries established the anime genre of the harem comedy--all six women from outer space are after Tenchi. Many other series have followed the formula, but few, if any, have been as much fun. The new slim pack takes up about one-fourth the shelf space of the original eight discs. >price: Funimation Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Lovely anime) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is a beautifully done anime. The episodes don't have much in common save for the main character and his profession as a mushi master but it still keeps you watching. The art is such quality and it's just absolutely lovely. There is little to no action in the explosive sense, but it is engaging nonetheless.』 (Relaxation Anime?) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I avoided Mushi-Shi for a long time because I didn't like the way the main character was drawn on the box. When I finally gave it a chance, I was blown away. The show is barely about the main character (Ginko), really. In fact, it is the mysterious "Mushi" that are the true stars of the show. Each episode centers around the strange little "Mushi" and the people being plagued by the little creatures. Ginko is more of a host, explaining the Mushi to the audience. It reminds of paranormal shows like "X-files" in that regard. The anime is calm and understated. There are no giant robot battles, and no teenage boys nervous about aggressive girls. The tone is slow and purposeful. It never feels like the story is dragging, though. It's just right :) One of the greatest aspects of Mushi-Shi, is the music. I haven't been captivated by an anime soundtrack like this since "Noir." The music matches the understated execution of the visual elements. The music is calm and simply beautiful. Sometimes gentle, sometimes haunting, the music perfectly compliments each scene. Well, all except the opening theme song ("the sore feet song"), which makes me want to put a pencil in my ear :) Mushi-Shi is in a rare class of anime. Not just because it's so good, but because it's so different. If you haven't tried Mushi-Shi yet, go for it. You may find it's a gem to add to your collection.』 (Incredible!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I wasn't sure what to expect, but decided to purchase this series on a whim since it was well regarded on [...]. I was looking for another seinin or josei anime to sink my teeth into and this fit the bill more than I ever would have expected. Each episode pretty much stands alone, however I would still suggest watching in chronological order as the character is revealed and develops from episode to episode. He's a great protagonist - mysterious and enigmatic but you come to love him and laugh with him. The storytelling in each episode was captivating and made me feel like a child again exposed to a whole new world of unusual beings. In the same way I grew up wondering about fairies, dragons and unicorns from the stories I read, Mushishi made me wonder about the details of the mystical creatures they dreamed up called mushi. The box set is nice - very simple, slim and complete. The cover is nice but not at all obviously "anime" so if you're not one who displays your anime habit for the world to see, you can comfortably include this on your shelves ;). There is the original Japanese with English subtitles and an English dub. The special features are also worthwhile as they have an interview with the Japanese director which is pretty interesting as well. I can't adequately describe how this series affected me. The music in each episode was great. The art and animation was different if not unusual, but so perfect for the story. A series I could easily re-watch over and over again. I think this series will probably impress most people - particularly if you are an adult who still finds themselves fascinated with classic dark fairy tales and cultural mythology. I think younger audiences could also watch if they're already comfortable and familiar with darker stories (like a classic Grimm's fairy tale or a Greek myth) but I believe much of it would go over their heads. In any case, this series is very highly recommended.』 (Meditative anime) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『If you like watching the countryside of Medieval Japan rendered in marvelous colours, this is the anime for you. The director is right in the interview: the maximum effort they put into the backdrop and scenery was absolutely worth it. If only, some more effort were shown in the variety of character design too. Unfortunately, all the female, and most of the male, characters have the same countenance. It did not pose a problem for the first two disks, but by the time I got to the third, there was a "not again" feeling when the faces of a new episode appeared on the scene. Fortunately, the personalities showed much more variety. However, not even the scarcity of "players" stopped me watching. Why? Because the timing and pacing of each of these stories are like eastern meditation. The background music is without too much variation and of repetitive nature, but you do not mind it at all. The opening song was a little more bothersome by the end of the series. But it's a product of the (commercial) west, so it is understandable. (I never watched more than half a disk a day. Generally tried to keep it as low as two episodes a day.) Most of the stories do not show too much variation either. Most have some predictable turns of events. The only thing you cannot always predict if they will have a happy ending or not. Or if such a thing as a happy ending exists at all. Not all of the problems are or can be solved. Not everyone is fully cured. Not all deaths can be avoided. It's not always the skill of the Mushi-shi that saves the day. Recommendation: try to see one or two episodes online. It's really not a problem if they are not episode one and two. The stories are self-contained and the quality of the series is quite even. If it seems to be your style, buy the whole box. It's worth its price. Of course, if you are of the patient type, try to wait for a better bargain. And do not forget that the movie version Mushi-Shi: The Movie also received favourable reviews.』 (Mushi Shi) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『There isn't much else I can say to back up this anime besides what the others have said. All I can tell you is that this is one collection that is worth picking up. Each episode is virtually stand alone, so there are no major arcs. It is an anime that is meant to be used as a way to take a break from shonen or action animes. It is well worth the money and can be watched in any order. Mushi-Shi is almost like a hidden gem.』 『The Cure Lies in the Curse. Between this world and the next, there is a point where it becomes impossible to distinguish between plant and animal, between life and death. It is a place man was never meant to tread...This is where you will find the mushi. Neither good nor evil, they are life in its purest form. An unseen river reshaping the path of man, through their very presence we are changed. Vulgar and strange, they have inspired fear in humans since the dawn of time and have, over the ages, come to be known as "mushi". DVD Extras:
