(Azumanga DOH!)
『Episodic? Sort of. Similar to Lucky Star, the Azumanga Daioh anime is compiled from 4-panel gag manga comics of the same name; either you get the joke, or you don't. The manga is wonderful, to see it in anime is exceptional. Azumanga Daioh has also been compared to, strangely enough, the U.S. sitcom "Seinfeld", because of the episodic feel... supposedly a non-story arc affair. But realistically, the character development and day-to-day life (in this case, three years of Japanese high school) IS the story arc. The repetition of comic relief is quite intentional, this stems from the characters personalities... which makes you grow closer and founder to them. Also, like Lucky Star (and Seinfeld), what makes this series extra special is the reviewable opportunities... you don't feel weighed down by a series that is story-arc driven, this is all about the characters. No matter how many times I hear Elaine bust out "Get OUT!" on Seinfeld, it does not get old; either does this anime.

I would highly recommend viewing the anime with Japanese DUB and English subtitles... mainly because of Osaka's character. The character is from Osaka, which regionally, would be considered "down south" for us in the States. And like the English translated manga, the character is obnoxiously portrayed as being from Boston, which is a far cry... the joke in the manga, is that even though the nicknamed transfer student Osaka is from Osaka, she's expected to be cutting-edge and city-slick cool by the other students when they first meet her... but in actuality, she's quite spacey and slow on the uptake which does NOT come across in either the English translated manga or the English dubbed anime. You'll get and understand the true identity and hilariousness of Osaka by listening to the Japanese DUB with English subtitles... the original dialogue is always portrayed/delivered correctly... dub is often... lost in translation as they say.

Another treat, on a personal level, is that the characters are all Japanese girls, with dark hair and dark eyes... none of the westernized and often whitewashed look or feel of other anime character design... with bright hair and eyes of every color of the rainbow... which is still quite enjoyable, but a breath of fresh air for this anime. If you enjoy this series, I would also highly recommend Lucky Star; although much more in your face fun, it's also derived from the same 4-panel gag-style of manga and isn't story-arc necessary.』

(Comedy is the ony thing going for it...)
『I have watched ~18 episodes out of the 26 episodes available. Azumanga Daioh is only for people who are interested in its nonsense comedy. I found the jokes funny at first, but it gets old afterward; the same or similar jokes reappear across the episodes. The series is also episodic. There is practically no story (i.e. no overarching goal). I prefer a good story over having good comedy, but I did not find the comedy funny after the first 7 episodes or so; thus, I do not recommend this anime.』

(Azumanga Daioh - One of the Best!)
『Do I have qualifications for this review?? Well Yes I think so, I have seen a LOT of Anime!
If you have not seen this series yet I recommend it to you. If you are an "Action" fan then it may be a bit slow so have a peek on UTube first! then rush out and buy it!
Thats where I saw it first, it gained my immediate interest and soon I had seen all the episodes, and loved the whole lot.

I believe I have this edition, as I live in anaother country than the USA, It was released here as the six disks, in fat packs with the translator/character art booklets and all the extras on disk. Also a special "father" or "Chiyo-Dad" broach. There are 6 disks of episodes and the last disk has several "extras" including a "mini movie". I LOVE this boxset.

Like many, I have watched the English and Japanese versions, Both are great but I do enjoy the Japanese version more, it is cuter and seems more natural.

So you havent seen it? well simply put it is the story of 7 student girls, 2 female teachers and the leacherous Mr. Kimura! We follow them through 3 years of high school, to their graduation. The humor is light but enjoyable, animation is very good, the characters are drawn as not to appear 15-17 years old, but that is their supposed age. There are times their characters turn to almost exagerated stick figures as necesitated by the "moment".

The cast is: (no particular order)
Chiyo-Chan, the 10 year old prodigy, Cuteness is her fortay!,
Kagura, The not to studious but very sporty type, alway wants to compete with Sakaki
Koyomi, (Yomi) studious, smart and tends to worry about her weight.
Sakaki, Tall, clever, athletic and loves cats.
Kaorin, regular student infatuated with Sakaki.
Osaka, The space cadet! renown for her off beat non relevent statements, is good at puzzles and is a horror/ghost story fan.
Tomo, the exuberant, competiative dunce, does everything but her homework,
Miss Yukari, The home room teacher, very competative, and has to be first!
Miss Minamo the PE Teacher, the more sensible of the 2 female tachers, and Miss Yukaris friend and rival.
Mr. Kimura, the Math teacher and has self confesed "loves school girls" and is a bit of a pervert.

Quote an Osaka-ism: "You believe in ghosts when you are alone, and you smell a fart that is not yours!!"

Well this is a good view, light, entertaining and humourous and in the end a bit sad when the girls all graduate, why sad? well thats the end of the series, and you want it to keep going!! wheres episode 27?? AAAHHHHH!!

The set is now reasonably priced if you find the right retailer, the set is in large boxes, and so takes a bit of space on the shelf, but heck! it deserves heaps of real estate in my book! Has all the features of the single episode boxes, with a few extras to boot! Great value and a great Anime!

Boys and girls, young and old, otaku and casual fans alike-everyone loves Azumanga Daioh. It's one of the most beloved anime series of 2004, and now ADV has brought all six DVDs together in a single affordable Thinkpak Collection.

Includes all experts from the original release.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Funny as hell and waited a long time for this)
『I remember watching the very first episode for the very first time in Taiwan. I loved it and have been searching for it ever sense, (weak search. More like I wasn't into anime back then).

Finally bought the box set and bummed that there is no second or third season because I would of bought that. The anime is awsome. Its one of those romantic comedies that although the main charaecters are female, the male character Saito is the most important character in the anime. This is a lot of damsel in distress kinda thing. This is one of those animes that you hate the lead female character (Louise) and you feel for the male character (Saito). One can kinda wish Saito was more aggressive and wasn't so timid even though he passionatly doesn't believe in the nobility vs peasent domination. There is a lot of domination themes in here, but in some ways, a lot of this is funny. You also feel that Louises domination is needed because of how weak and useless she is. Saito usually comes to the rescue and Louise resents it because she is nobility vs peasent. This anime plays off that concept and makes it funny, but Im surprised to not hear a lot of jokes from Kirche which was the one that I expected to make the most fun about the issue (Just like Kuriko from Maburaho). I also kinda want to see more of Kirche because she is possibly the only character that presents a very light hearted personality. Plus shes hot (Expected) and its just fun to see her try to seduce Saito. Montmorency is also another character that would be fun to see more of to.

This is Adult anime to. Saito spends most of the time waching lacy panties and there are a lot of breast jokes and flat chested jokes from all sides of the spectrum. Kirche also does a lot of seducing and rubbing breasts with Saito as well. Although its all funny, this is adult content. There are also other aspects to, but can remember.

This is a real cute anime and a lot of fun to watch. This was worth the money and as a newbie anime watcher that just recently started, this was a good one to have in a collection. Not much else to say that hasn't been said before.』

(Great show Please support!)
『This is a great show and and great buy. The boxset comes with some unique artwork and 3 mini posters that all look great! This show is still waiting for it's fourth season Please support by purchasing this set and future releases!』

(Good, fun anime)
『I wasn't sure what to expect from this anime which I watched with my 10 year old daughter. Both of us ended up enjoying it a lot. It's in a girlie (Shojo), crazy style with lots of screeching, squealing and wild antics. The relationship between the two main characters is sweet (although a little aggressive!) and the story line is nice. Our major disappointment with the series was how short it was ... only 3 discs. The story was a bit 'compressed' and had a lot of potential. It would have been better if it had been told over four or five discs.

I think the sexual references in this anime are pretty strong, too. If you're concerned about this sort of thing then this isn't an anime to watch with your child.

We are big fans of anime and I wouldn't this as highly as others in the same style, e.g., Fruits Basket, but it's good if your expectations aren't too high.

The packaging is good. The box is high quality, sturdy cardboard with good artwork. Inside are three standard DVDs with a small picture booklet inside each one. The covers are reversible.

(An Entertaining Fantasy Series Filled With Chuckles And A Dash Of Romance)
『The series is to be taken with the knowledge that it's neither an all round action anime or drama anime but more of a mix of light drama, magical abilities, and a dash of romance. The characters are very entertaining to watch and seeing the situations they get into most of the times will leave you with a chuckle. The main characters Louise a young female aristocrat with almost zero magical talent thus earning her nickname Louise The Zero inadvertently summons a young man from our world to hers in a botched summoning spell to call for personal familiar to appear to her( A familiar being a mystical animal or normal animal but with unique qualities that helps her or his wizard master). Of course the young man Hiraga Saito neither knowing what's going on or where he is finds himself out of his league and under the overbearing dominion of his so called master, but later as he adjusts to his new world he finds he has a unique ability to fight with unusual power and ability(Nothing truly superhuman). The hijinx that happens between Louise and Saito as they slowly begin to at first befriend than fall in love will leave you laughing and feeling a little heartfelt tug throughout the series. The series is widescreen and the cast for the English voice overs were very good for their roles as was of course the Japanese cast, the extras aren't much just the standard trailers and textless intro/ending songs. There is a lot of fan service in the series itself but nothing to r-rated to worry about and nothing to steamy beyond kissing for the most part so no need to unduly worry about anything to badly. The one thing I appreciate with Funimation doing is having the complete series set be a decent design, meaning the set is three standard dvd cases put into a thin cardboard box sleeve with the main female character on both sides instead of just doing the set like their recent complete box sets(Air Gear, Guyver, Mushi Ishi to just name a few). So if you're looking a mystical magical series or just looking for a chuckle or two for the price of this set here's a choice to take a look at for yourself...』

(Comedy, drama and some action mixed in. What do you get?)
『Comidramaction! Think of this series as a light Inuyasha, just without the demons and "sword calls" (you know like Wind Scar but there are spell calls...but that makes more sense :) The story revolves mostly around Louise (who sucks at magic) and her familiar Saito (who happens to be a human of another dimension). Starts off with some comedy, goes into some drama near the middle of the series and then action. Does it do it well, I think so. Not to much of drama or action, but I don't think the creators of this series wanted to make it too dramatic or with too much action. It mainly is a comedy (which is a good call imho). The first series is definitely a keeper (not too fond of the last series they came out with..too eicchi and no focus on story, but that's another review!). Ok animation (could be better.) Music well, ehhh it's ok, but nothing that really stands out. Voice acting is good (I watched it in Japanese with subs so I can't say anything about the dubs.) In all I say 3.5 for a good story line. I recommend it to 13 yr's older and up.』
『In a magical land where two moons shine in the night sky, one young student in the magic school, Louise, has acquired the nickname of "Zero". Why? Her "zero" talent! With a near perfect failure rate for her spells, the shock that Louise's summoning spell works equals the surprise of her new familiar, a human boy from Japan! When the boy begins exhibiting some unexpected abilities, why do the teachers get so nervous?』
『Louise la Vallière the heroine of the supernatural comedyFamiliar of Zero(2006) is a sort of Harriet Potter, studying sorcery at a wizard's academy on another planet. Her classmates refer to her as "Louise Zero" because she can't get a single spell to work properly. Second year students are required to summon a familiar that will serve them for the rest of their careers as mages: Instead of a mythical animal, Louise calls up Saito, a teen-age boy from Japan. Although she insults him, beats him, and makes him do endless chores--especially washing her inexhaustible supply of frilly undies--Saito soon falls for Louise (and vice versa, although she's loath to admit it). Somewhere in the background lurks an underdeveloped plot involving a princess, a revolt, evil courtiers, a ring stolen from a lake spirit, and lot of other supernatural trappings that don't add up to much. To take up the slack, the filmmakers fill the screen with jokes about Louise's flat chest, panty shots, jiggle shots of her overendowed classmate Kirche, and bath scenes. Not a weighty series by any means, butFamiliar of Zerodelivers plenty of fan service for those who crave it. (Rated 13 and older: violence, risqué humor, brief nudity, tobacco use, stereotypical characters)--Charles Solomon

(1. Zero Louise, 2. Commoner Familiar, 3. Feverish Temptation, 4. A Maid's Crisis, 5. Tristein's Princess, 6. A Thief's Identity, 7. Louise's Part-Time Job, 8. Tabitha's Secret, 9. Louise's Change Of Heart, 10. A Princess's Request, 11. Louise's Marriage, 12. Zero Treasure, 13. Louise The Void)』

(Very Moving and Exciting Story)
『This is a great example of what a truly great Anime has to offer. It's a shame that only Anime seems to ever involved these kinds of character complexities and moral and philosophical dilemmas, but whatever I guess.

With out spoiling anything, the story revolves around a young girl who is granted toe power to use magic via a gem that transforms her into a so called "Magical Girl" (this is a term applied to any female character that can transform into a more powerful form in Anime). The story seems to blend magic and technology in a dazzling way, at times you often wonder if the characters are using magical items or some sort of super advanced technology.

The characters are beautiful and seem to come to life with personalities of their own that make each character stand out amongst the other multitude of characters. These are not your western characters, who love fighting and fight to "protect freedom". They have flaws but not every character is bipolar or paranoid. They are rich and diverse and help to take you away from the toils of real life, not remind you of them.

If you are unfamiliar with Anime and see a cute cartoon girl on the cover and your first thought is "This is a children's show" you are only half right. While this show is easy to digest for children of about 10 or so years old, there are some complexities and even some realities that younger children might not be ready for.
There's no vulgarity or sexual content, though the transformation scene might me considered kinda risky for some viewers, important body parts are simply not drawn. Sponge Bob or Tom and Jerry are both 100 times more violent and offensive than anything you will find in this show.

That said, this show can be equally enjoyed by a more mature audience, especially one who still considers themselves a child at heart. If you like a fun, touching story with out all of the mellow-drama, propaganda and nonstop real world head line news references that you'll find in 95% of all American Prime Time dramas, then you'll love this show.

Lyrical Nanoha A's is the second season and is available via Amazon's current selection at the time of this review's writing.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Initial D is the best auto-racing themed Anime series ever.)
『I grew up watching Initial D and it is completely awesome. The characters are engaging and every episode will drop some useful knowledge about automobiles and racing technique. I highly recommend the Tricked Out version with hip hop and pop electronic soundtrack and some CGI animations. The original version is very nice as well and you can watch it with English sub-titles if you do not understand Japanese.』

(INITIAL D - A must have for anime or street racing lovers)
『Let me start the review with the package. This box set is very well presented and includes a booklet with the characters and their respective cars, also this package includes a sticker with the FUJIWARA TOFU logo as a bonus.

This first season (of four) tells the story of TAKUMI FUJIWARA a dreamy high-school student and its introduction to STREET RACING. Takumi's friends don't know that he has drive the dangerous and complicated Mt. Akina for the last 5 years, delivering TOFU (the family business) for customers. One interesting thing is that he doesn't only drive in a legendary car .... his father secretly trains him to control the car like any other part of his body.

Some events lead Takumi to compete with a well know STREET RACING TEAM, called the RED SUNS and this is the beginning of a new world for Takumi. Something awoke inside him when he felt the rush to compete with a much higher powered car with a good driver inside.

Drama, love, comedy and too much action awaits you in this series that comes in 9 DVD and will give you many hours of fun. You will love the series for sure, even if the animation is a little bit different combining 3D CG with hand drawn animation.

You will be immediately drawn to INITIAL D universe in the end of the first DVD. Enjoy』

(Best show ever)
『If you have any interest in mangas and JDM cars, you cannot go wrong with Initial D!!!』

(Excellent!)
『This is Worth every pennie I saw this in japan and the funimation is way better they have it in english dubbed and the orginal japanese...
comes with the Akina stars racing sticker for your own car』

(Like cars, like anime? This may be the one for you...)
『Wow, I have not seen this one for more than ten years ago. Time sure flies. When I see this product in stores, I was a bit hesitating because I have seen the trailer in english dubbed and music changed. Once I have heard from friends who rented or owned it, they said the japanese versions were kept in tact. You know, they were right!. That made me happy. I tried to give english version a chance, but I cannot surpass the music, the new given names, and the new special effects during the race. It just not the same! Just to be fair, I will only review only the original japanese version. The picture and the sound are really clean for a first season TV series. The contents are kept intact. I do not recall any scenes have been edited out. I recommend who enjoys classic sport cars do battle and remind how good the cars in their time.』
『When Keisuke Takahashi of the infamous RedSuns racing team accidentally witnesses normal, everyday tofu delivery boy Takumi Fujiwara's, expert drift technique, Takumi's life shifts into high gear. Keisuke challenges him to a racing battle and the race results in Takumi plunging headlights first into the white-knuckle, adrenaline rushing world of underground mountain-pass street racing.

With his incredible techniques and top notch AE Eight-Six, Takumi blows the competition away battle after battle. As the word rapidly spreads about a new racer beating out the best drivers and cars that drift racing has to offer, one by one, new challengers quickly step out to battle him. Yet, time and time again, Takumi proves himself to be a force to be reckoned with. Can Takumi be the best?

This 9 disc set contains the complete first season of heart stopping Initial D action! DVD extras include:

  • Exclusie footage from Mount Akagi
  • Bonus episode from Season 2
  • 16-pg Owners Manual
  • Outtakes and much more!』
『The teenage street-racing adventureInitial D(1998) is set in a flyspeck town north of Tokyo, where the only thrill the local teens have is racing on the winding road up Mt. Akina. Takumi "Tak" Fujiwara isn't exited by racing like his friends Iggy and Cole. He doesn't realize that his ex-racer father has taught him all the tricks of driving by making him deliver tofu up and down Mt. Akina without spilling the water in a cup. The technical difficulties of performing various maneuvers and the challenges from members of racing gangs lure Tak into competition. Despite his skills, Tak isn't a terribly interesting character; as his friends note, when he's not racing, it's hard to tell if he's asleep or awake. Iggy and Cole feel like stock anime sidekicks, and the girls in the cast are little more than adjuncts to the boys.Initial Dmythologizes street racing as if it were a martial art: Tak drives with a "powerful aura," and the road races become duels of honor.

Initial Dscored a huge hit in Japan, generating two sequels, two spin-offs, numerous video games, a theatrical feature, and a live-action film. But the computer animation of the races that looked cutting edge in 1998 now feels passé: any video game offers flashier car races. TheComplete First Seasonset includes all 26 episodes of the original series and first installment of the first sequel,Initial D: Second Stage(1999). Although each episode is presented in both "classic" (original video, Japanese dialogue, original music) and "tricked out" (enhanced video, English dialogue, hip-hop soundtrack) versions, including only three per disc seems stingy. (Rated TV PG, suitable for ages 14 and older: minor violence, tobacco and alcohol use, street racing, profanity)--Charles Solomon

    (Kiddy Grade-The Complete Series)
『This series is fastpaced when it needs to be with a unique ensemble of characters.

It's too bad they didn't make more episodes, especially with so many more potential

stories that they could have done.』

    (Good Series, Flawed boxset)
『I used to have the individual 8 dvds for the series. A friend of mine had never been able to finish the series, so for her birthday, I gave her mine, and decided to, because of the cover work for this box set. I've been looking around on line and have yet to see that illustration from KG. It is quite eye catching. When I saw this box set, I thought, oh good! They came out with a newer complete box set. I bought it for a really good price on Amazon from a third party seller that had a fulfillment with Amazon. When it came in, I was so excited, but after opening it I was slightly disappointed. The box set itself is laid out like so. There is a flimsy thin like card board slip cover, that might I say, bends easily. One of the side panels was bent and now has a crease on one side. It slides off, more than easily if I may say. To reveal a book design, with slip cover pages that all 8 dvds slide into. Securely and safely. That is pretty much the box set's set up. Nice artwork is demonstrated throughout the design, and its easy to manage the dvds in the slip pages. But what really got me disappointed was the slip cover, how it doesn't really fit that well on the book, and how flimsy it is and rather fragile. Not that I'm going to be throwing it around or doing anything out of the ordinary with it, but I will say it could have been designed better in the sturdy department.

Maybe I just got a bad one, and others have gotten better. But this was my personal experience. If you're going to buy this box set, I would recommend seeing it in store, so you know what you're getting.』

    (very good series)
『greatly enjoy this series and would recomend it to anyone that likes a good anime』

(You Don't Want to Miss Out On This!)
『I first came across Kiddy Grade on TV. I thought it was really cool. I think that both genders should like watching this series. The graphics are good, the picture clear and the sound is grate. There is a total of 24 episodes, English and Japanese languages and the usual kind of extras. This is a sci-fi anime with very cool fight scenes, drama, suspense a good story line and some pretty neat robots. The story revolves aroundÉclair and Lumiere who are ES Force members of the Global Union, a shadow force that serves as the primary law enforcement for the Galaxy. Éclair and Lumiere go through quite a few exciting adventures and through out them you'll fall in love with both characters. Éclair begins to remember bits and pieces from her past and during a tedious mission the situation escalates to the point where Éclair can't take anymore and losses it which results in her and her partner being hunted down by their fellow Es members some of whom where friends. This series has a good ending; it's funny, sad, and exciting all at once. You won't regret buying the Viridian Collection. This is truly a great show. NOTE: I wouldn't recommend this series for anyone under the age of 16. There isn't any bad language but there is some adult humor and suggestive scene like the clothing the girls are wearing etc.Samurai7: Box Set (Viridian Collection) Spiral - The Complete Series (The Viridian Collection)』

Existing in the shadows of the G.O.T.T., the ES Force serves as the G.O.T.T.'s primary law enforcement organization. (Loved it!)
『One of the best anime production I have seen since Nadesico and the remake of Evangelion. Has the politicial drama storyline of Gundam Wing with the comedy romance of Love Hina. They really though this one through. Epic storyline from the begining to the end. The teaser at the end is a little big of a let down. I won't spoil it for you just wish something better (Hint: kiss) happened.』

    (A great Action/Comedy Series)
『The Show: "Full Metal Panic" has long been one of my favorite anime series. It has fun characters, and a good, intriguing storyline. I also find the alternate-history-with-giant-robots setting to be an intriguing one. Between the action and the often-hilarious comedy, it is a very rewatchable series. It was therefore with great satisfaction that I finally decided to purchase this box set.

The Box Set: I'd say it's a pretty good deal at this price, overall. There's not much in the way of DVD extras, but the important thing is that all the episodes are here, dubbed and subtitled with good image and sound quality. This was a good purchase.』

(good blend of action and comedy)
『though more of a fan of school comedies, the action in this series is really well done and engaging. the plot may jump around a bit when concentrating on souske's military missions but the comedy is top notch, and there is definite progression in character development. very enjoyable series that perfectly sets up the following comedy oriented second season.』

(Full Metal Panic! One Of The Best Animes!)
『I was deciding whether to buy Full Metal Panic! It took me a day to decide if i want to buy the anime and i'm glad i did. This is one of the best animes i have ever seen!

    Introduction to FMP
On the surface, Kaname Chidori appears to be a normal high school student, Unbeknownst to her however, a group of terrorists believe she posseses the special powers of "The Whispered," and they're out to kidnap her. Enter Sousuke Sagara, a young hotshot agent from the anti-terrorist organization Mithril, assigned to protect Kaname without her finding out what's happening. Will he be able to keep her from falling into the cluthes of evil, or will he just drive her crazy as he tries to fit in as her awkward, gung-ho, war-crazed classmate?

Sum Of The Story (No Spoilers and in my words)
Full Metal Panic! is in the lines like Ranma 1/2, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Sousuke, a military officer is sent to protect a high school girl name Kaname. The reason Kaname needs to be protect is because Mithril (The anti-terrorist organization) believes that Kaname is capeable of ending the terrorist war and also believes that she is "The Whispered". "The Whispered" has mental powers and if capture by the terrorist, Mithril mission will fail. Mithril is more advanced than any other military. In other words, Mithril is 10 years more advanced than Japan current tech. Easy? Not for Sousuke! Sousuke serves as a bodyguard for Kaname but, Kaname doesn't know that she has a bodyguard. Sousuke is your typical military guy while Kaname is popluar, and loud. The two doesn't go quite together, so expect one hell of a ride!

The setting takes place in Japan around the future. The graphics are really good and the action is really good. There is alot of action and alot of emotional moments. The anime is balance, Like action, comedy, emotional, action, While maintaining the plot. The music is good and sets the mood in certain situtions, Don't get me wrong, The soundtrack for FMP! is really good! The opening and ending songs stay true to the anime. There are brief nudity scenes, so i reccommend the age for 16+. Their is kinda a strong language in the anime, so if you are not a big fan of people cursing, then you should consister if you still want to buy it. If you don't care about the cursing, brief nudity scenes and want to buy the anime, I'm not stopping you.

The boxset is big. The box is design like the outside of a machine (which is really cool!) The boxset can fit anywhere, but be expected to move things if it can't fit the way you want it. It comes with 7 Dvds with extras. Now for the episodes, there are a total of 24. The extras are Clean Opening, Clean Ending, Production Sketches, Privacy Warning, ADV Previews. It the same thing for each disc, but the previews are different.

Since Full Metal Panic! was one of the North America best seller, There is actually three seasons. First is the Full Metal Panic!, Next is Full Metal Panic! Fumoffu, and the last is Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. The second and third season already came out, but the third season is made by Funanimation Productions. So expect the third season to be really good! When i finished FMP, I felt like i just finished an anime that i can watch over and over again. I had the same feeling when i watch Gunslinger Girl (which i watch a total of 6 times). Buy FMP! You will not regret buying the anime!

    (FMP)
『Excellent Series. I must have watched this collection 8 times already since I received it.』
    『Collection of Mission:01-07』
『In this winning comedy-adventure, writer Shouji Gatou and director Koichi Chigira combine mecha battles, psychic abilities, and teen-age romance, infusing the mixture with a rambunctious comic energy reminiscent ofGenerator Gawl. High school student Kaname Chidori may be a "Whispered," an individual who possesses vast, untapped mental powers. The KGB and other sinister organizations want to capture individuals with those powers, so the anti-terrorist mercenary corps Mithril dispatches a mismatched trio of officers to protect Kaname: Melissa Mao, Sousuke Sagara, and Kurz Weber. Sousuke tries to blend in at Jindai High, but his military bearing, hair-trigger reflexes, and literal-mindedness get him into trouble with the teachers and Kaname. At a time when many anime series feel like variations onEvangelionand a few other prototypes,Full Metal Panicoffers an upbeat, appealing originality. This set contains the entire seven volume series. (It's a mystery)
『I'm not entirely sure why Amazon isn't carrying the second season of Kyo Kara Maoh (or Kyou Kara Maou if you prefer). I remember seeing something a while back about a complaint claiming there was a problem with the Season 2 set. If that's the case I'm a little confused. My set seems to be just fine.

Season 2 of KKM picks up right where the 1st season left off. Yuri and co. are still trying to get the 2nd of the "forbidden boxes" back to the Great Demon Kingdom (Shinmakoku) and Conrart's loyalties are still in question. The rest of the season deals with the search for the remaining 2 boxes. It also mixes in some side stories and a few historical episodes about Conrart's father, Julia, and the Great One (and the formation of the Great Demon Kingdom.) In the present, we also get to officially meet Bob, the Demon King (Maou) of Earth, and Shouri (Yuri's older brother). The season ends with a big bang, effectively wrapping up the story. Obviously season 2 was supposed to be the end but they went on to make a 3rd season afterall. Maybe someday that will get released here too. From what I've seen it's even better than Season 2.

Storywise, Season 2 is pretty good with fewer fillers than the first season. No doubt that's due to the fact that it starts at the point and carries on from there. Season 2 also has some of my favorite episodes. I loved the inclusion of Shouri. Of course, you'll have to expect KKM to meander a bit. Each season has 39 episodes. It's hard to make all of them important but Season 2 certainly succeeds in making most of them memorable. The animation also improved a bit.

The packaging itself is much like the reissue of Season 1. The box is pretty thin but it holds the discs together just fine. The discs are packed two to a case (except for the last disc which is alone) and include cover art and a few still shots along with the episode listings. The cases are the slim line type so expect the discs to pop free from time to time. The vocal cast is pretty much the same as the first season with the noteable addition of Katsuyuki Konishi (Loveless, Blood+, D.Gray-man, etc) as Shouri. I still remain a fan of the original Japanese with subtitles. The dub just doesn't do it for me. Besides Kyo Kara Maoh benefits from a great cast of Japanese voice actors. The English cast just can't compete.

All together, Season 2 gets 4.5 stars from me. I might have liked a few more extras but the show itself is structurally sound. It also remains relatively friendly for younger viewers. Some of the middle episodes would need editing for the very young but Kyo Kara Maoh is much less violent than a lot of other shows despite the heavy use of sword fighting (which remains bloodless).』

    (It's only beginning)
『Picking up where the last set of episodes stopped, Nishiura High enters the summer tournament against last years champions Tosei Highschool. Everything that you learned from watching the practice game in the previous half-season gets applied and turned up a notch. Even the coaches start to throw down from the dugouts. The tension will keep you glued to your seat for the whole DVD set.

Since the game takes up most of the season, there's very little personal time with the players, instead you see their technical side on the field with bits of their personalities shining through. Because of this, Mihashi has very little time to be whimpy while he's up on the mound. He's still a little awkward and excitable, but you're not going to want to punch him every episode. And if you were a little creeped out by the shounen-ai stuff of the past, it's played down for this part of the season.

Puzzlingly, this season ends with an episode that's only tangentially related to the main characters. It's still about baseball, but focusing on Abe's ex-pitcher Haruna. You'll think this is a strange way to end the series, but I'll remind you that "it's only beginning." Indeed, the Second Season of Big Windup is about to start in Japan in 2010, so we might get it at the end of 2010.

One watching and I know six of the players names: Abe, Mihashi, Hanai, Tajima, Okki, and Sakaguchi. Okki is the kid with the weird looking face, and Sakaguchi has the voice of Al from Fullmetal Alchemist.

And a "Squeeze Play" is when you bunt with a runner on third. While the opposition get the batter Out at first base, the player on third runs home. You're going to hear that a lot without any explanation for newbies.』

(An enjoyable baseball-driven animated series. The second part features more on baseball (almost entirely on one game)...)
『In Japan, sports-based anime have been quite popular. From series such as the basketball anime "Slam Dunk", soccer anime such as "Captain Tsubasa", football anime such as "Eyeshield 21 and tennis anime "Prince of Tennis", comes an anime baseball series that is just fun and enjoyable.

In Japan, baseball is a big part of Japanese culture. Aside from soccer and sumo wrestling, Japanese baseball has been covered in manga and anime series such as the popular series "Touch" as well as"H2, "Princess Nine" and "Idol Ace", to name a few.

In 2003, Asa Higuchi began a manga series which is serialized in the monthly seinen magazine "Afternoon" since 2003. The series has won an award such as the "Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize" and the "Kodansha Manga Award" and eventually was made into a 26-episode anime series in 2007.

Animation was done by A-1 Pictures (A studio from the Sony's anime production division, Aniplex) and shown on TBS and Animax Asia. What many people don't know is that Higuchi has researched and collected data on Japanese high school baseball for ten years before she started on the manga series.

With the first 13 episodes released in August, the second and final part of "Big Windup!" (also known as "Okiku Furikabutte" aka Ofuri) will be released in the US courtesy of FUNimation Entertainment.

The series is directed by Tsutomu Mizushima ("xxxHolic", "Genshiken" and "Kujibiki Unbalance), written by Yousuke Kuroda ("Gungrave", "Infinite Ryvius", "Mobile Suit Gundam 00, etc.), character designs by Takahiko Yoshida (who has worked on "Honey and Clover", "Gad Guard" and "Welcome to the NHK") and music by Shiroh Hamaguchi ("Ah! My Goddess", "One Piece", "Sakura Wars" and "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children").

The animated series initially revolves around a boy named Ren Mihashi. Mihashi is a pitcher who has low-self esteem and lack of confidence courtesy of his former junior high school who criticized him because he was made starting pitcher of his junior high school team because his grandfather owned the school. Because of that, he underwent some major bullying from his baseball team, to the point that everyone expects the worst out of him and expect him to lose each game. In fact, Mihashi buys into all the negativity they give him and he blames himself for his teams losses and ruining his schoolmate's love for the game, thus Mihashi's self-confidence is totally shot. So, bad that he's always cringing in fear, always thinking that others are thinking negative of him and that he will ruin things for everyone.

Mihashi decides to go to Nishiura High School and ends up being coached by Coach Momoe for Nishiura High School's first baseball team. In the first part of the series, Mihashi learns that by listening to catcher Takaya Abe, he can be a successful pitcher. Abe knows that Mihashi has true pitching talent but he needs direction which he is willing to give. But he and his other teammates know that it is important to get Mihashi's self-esteem up and thus, the team goes through intensive training and even going against Mihashi's old high school to get the team's spirits up.

For the second half of the series, Nishiura High School enters its first summer tournament. But unfortunately for them, for the lottery, they end up picking last year's champions, Tosei High School.

    VIDEO&AUDIO:

"Big Windup!" is presented in 16:9 and sports a lot of painted backgrounds with its baseball field surroundings, neighborhoods but for a TV series, sports quite a bit of detail for its players and their baseball equipment. May it be the dust on the baseball, their gloves or the catcher's shin guards. Each character has their own personal traits and for the most part, animators captured the wide range of emotions of each character quite well. For the most part, there is a country like feel to "Big Windup!" but for the most part, a television series that does look quite nice! Bare in mind, this is not a OVA or film, so for a TV series to a good amount of detail is a major plus.

The series does sport a soft kind of look. The colors are not as eye-popping vibrant as I would have liked but actually is quite consistent with many other television animated series.

As for the audio, the English 5.1 Dolby Surround Sound is actually more livelier compared to its Japanese vocal counterpart (featured in stereo). The soundtrack of course is more dialogue-driven, so expect to hear more use of the front and center channel speakers. But for optimal sound on both soundtracks, for those with a receiver that is able to make all channels stereo, I found this setting to be the best. And both English and Japanese vocal tracks are quite solid.

In terms of dialogue, there is quite a difference in terms of language used. The English dub does use certain words that some may consider profanity but for the most part, the series is not vulgar, nor is there really anything violent. It's just certain words used in the English dialogue that gives the series its TV 14 rating.

    Subtitles are only in English.

    SPECIAL FEATURES:

On the second DVD, you can find the textless opening and ending theme plus FUNimation Entertainment trailers.

    JUDGMENT CALL:

"Big Windup!" is an enjoyable baseball anime series!

In a way it kind of reminds me of the classic American baseball film "The Bad News Bears" in which a team of baseball players that were no good, overcame adversity and through teamwork, became an awesome team. In "Big Windup!", it's almost a similar situation which the team has its share of talented players and not-so-talented players but compared in size to the other competition, Nishiura High baseball players are much shorter nor are they physically as strong as compared to the senior baseball players of other high schools, nor do they have a top notch training facility as other high schools and last, this is the high school's first year as a baseball team.

But the strength of the team relies on defense and pitching, with Mihashi having pinpoint accuracy when it comes to pitching, it all comes down to Takaya Abe, the catcher to direct him. At first, Mihashi does get a bit too much (or very annoying) for the viewer as he is always afraid, whining, crying and quite literally is acting like a baby but when the team dynamics start to come to play, this becomes less noticeable and the series becomes more enjoyable.

I will say that the first part of "Big Windup! -Oofuri-" is more viewer-friendly for those not familiar with baseball. This second part is now more baseball-driven as the majority of the episodes revolve around the whole nine innings between Nishiura High School and Tosei High School and the strategies involved by the two opposing coaches, making their calls and the players adapting.

Most sports series do not focus on this many episodes on one matchup but "Big Windup! -Oofuri" does. As a baseball fan, I enjoyed it. And as a fan of Japanese baseball, I enjoyed it even more, especially how it captures the cheering squad as you hear the theme songs of Pink Lady's "Southpaw" and other themes being played by the trumpet player and drummer. Personally, I enjoyed the strategy that was featured in this anime series, I don't think I have seen any sport anime series show the realistic nature in such detail as this anime series. Needless to say that Asa Higuchi's research paid off.

But I have to admit, with so many episodes dedicated to the matchup, I was starting to lose my patience because I knew there were only 26 episodes in this series and I was hoping to see more episodes that were not related to the tournament.

But suffice to say, for those who are casual sports fans or a non-sports fan, this second part may not be your cup of tea. In fact, only the last two episodes are not involved with the first round tournament. Episode 25 going into the day after and episode 26 focusing on players of Musashino Dai (Ichi High School). Which was surprising because there was no real conclusion to the series and made me wonder if there were plans like other sports-related anime in having this series going longer than 26-episodes.

But overall, I really enjoyed "Big Windup!" and finding myself wanting to watch even more after it ended. This is truly a series about underdogs who have a lot to offer but must go through sacrifice and working as a team in order to become successful. And for the most part, the series balances out the baseball aspect but also the series crazy antics and the humor of each character. It's basically a fun series to watch and enjoy.

"Big Windup!" doesn't take long to get into the action and unlike "Slam Dunk" or "Prince of Tennis", this is not an anime series that really goes into the dramatics of relationships or love triangles or anything like that. Nor is it a series that tries to promote its characters as cool and visually appealing for female fans. It's pretty much an anime series of a group of young teens who want to be a very good baseball team but knowing they have to do many things in order to become successful. And as a viewer, you end up rooting for the underdogs (which of course is Nishiura High School) and hope they can beat their opponents.

If you are a person who enjoys sports-related anime series especially baseball, "Big Windup!" is absolutely fun and entertaining.』

(Should be called "The Big Letdown Part 2")
『Was this Part 2 horrible? No, but it was a Big Letdown. First off let me say that I loved the first collection (ep1-13) and gave it 4 stars. It was entertaining fun seeing Mihashi(Ren) grow and become friends with all the guys and it encompassed more than just the game of baseball. This second boxset basically was just baseball. No school, no home, no hangin out like the first set; no just baseball. 11 episodes in a row of the same game which was hard to watch. Whereas the game in the first box set was fast moving with meaningful inner dialogue and strategy, this 11 episode game was drawn out and had way too much of the opposing teams perspective. At one point I thought who am I supposed to root for? Also Mihashi's cousin arrives who was cool but was pretty much squandered by pretty much sitting in the stands. I would have liked to have seen her and Mihashi together more but her character was sadly wasted. The next episode was pretty much a filler episode but I was happy to see Tajima back to his likable self as he is by far one of the coolest anime characters EVER! The saddest thing was the last episode didnt even have anything to do with Mihashi and the boys. I was hoping for at least a narrated diary episode of the remaining tournament so we could see how far the guys got but no, just a bonus episode of another team we dont care about. Why they ended the series this way I don't know. My wife liked both box sets so I guess take this review with a grain of salt. Just know, this set is not even close to the first. Whereas the first set was a great watch with cool characters that grew and were entertaining with situations that were fun, this set is just 1 boring drawn out baseball game and then no real ending.』

    (Big Windup!'s Conclusion Arrives)
『Much to the dismay of many critics, I likened The Big Windup to one of the better Shonen (fighting-based) anime series out there only rather than an ongoing tournament, the sport of baseball acts as the catalyst to tie together all of the teenage (and older) characters.

I'm sticking by that claim because quite frankly, the show retains all of the best aspects of a shonen piece with a healthy dose of believability.

Previously released only as an online video-stream, Big Windup! was a Geneon property picked up by Funimation that's finally come to dvd format for those of us who prefer to enjoy our anime on the 42 inch plasma with surround sound (rather than in our media players through two tinny speakers that came with the computer monitor).

Coming at a total runtime of 315 minutes, Big Windup! Part 2 (Oofuri) consists of episodes 14-26 spread across 2 discs packaged within a standard-size dvd case. The show wears an appropriate, if not slightly conservative TV 14 rating (no violence, nudity or foul language).

Extras are limited here to textless songs and a nice assortment of Funimation trailers on the second disc.

As is standard fair with sub&dub anime, the language options consist of the original Japanese dialog track (in stereo) and an English language dub presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround with the option of English subtitles available under either choice.

The story picks up with young student Ren Mihashi's baseball endeavors coupled to his life as a regular high school student.

Whereas the first edition established Ren's desire to play ball even if bot hhe and his team's skill left a bit to be desired, this installment starts out right at the end of spring training. Mihashi has discovered some newfound confidence thanks to beating his old school in the big game (again in the first release). With Abe calling the pitches, the once insecure Ren has a few tricks up his sleeve. However, the big summer tournament is just beginning and as fate would have it, the Nishiura Nine find themselves going up against the defending champs in the very first round.

Being the second and final installment of the show, this set does represent the conclusion of the franchise and is done well accordingly (although you will get the impression that the tale could have gone longer if there had been demand for a continuation).

The story's an even-flowing, fun romp through the rigors of both school life and after school sports activity. It's bright, clean and pleasant in its delivery that uses elements of team-building and personal growth as the backbone to a lot of baseball-game onscreen action sequences.

If this sounds a little odd, don't let the sports-themed arc to trip you up from enjoying a tasty little tale that works for the same reason shonen (fighting-themed anime) is so popular: the viewer ends up caring more about the characters than the specific forms of competition that are used to advance the plot. As it stands however, the baseball animation, scoring-system, and physics are exponentially more realistic (and relatable) than mystical fighting tournaments with monsters and magic spells.

The music is nothing overly dramatic or spectacular but it's catchy and rhythmic in all of the right places. Interestingly, when available as a video stream the only language option was the English dub. Funimation has wisely included the superior Japanese vocal track on this dvd set. Not to suggest that the English dub isn't worthy; the dramatic attempts just simply feel a bit less forced in the chipper and lively Japanese form.

In all, Big Windup! Part 2 continues to make use of some of the livelier aspects of popular shonen anime with a nice likeable cast of characters and some sports elements that nearly anyone can sit down and enjoy.

    (Underrated! Definitely a Must Watch!!)
『I LOVED LOVED LOVED this anime. I'm so completely and desperately in love with each of the characters - of course, particularly Mihashi&Abe-kun. Deliciously suspenseful, packed with action, and yet not lacking the sentimentals - I can watch the episodes over and over and over again. In fact, I HAVE watched the episodes so repeatedly that I've decided to buy the DVD set, lol. There are only 26 episodes in total to this anime series, split into 2 DVD sets. I'm extremely disappointed in the shortness of the series, but hope [with all of my being] that with enough fans and supporters, they will make a second season!! I STRONGLY recommend the Japanese audio/English subs, as the voice acting of the characters is crucial to their distinctive qualities.

From the mass of anime titles available, I definitely think that Big Windup (or 'Ookiku Furikabutte') is one worth owning. Though an underrated series, not as well known as my other favorite animes (e.g. Death Note, Cowboy Bebop, FMA, Ouran HS Host Club..), it is just as addicting and wonderfully satisfying to watch!! In addition to the great story and inspiring character interactions, the artwork is actually extremely good and wonderfully pleasing to the eyes - an attribute that is often overlooked in anime these days.』

『Spring training is over, and it’s time for the real fun to start. Mihashi’s confidence got a huge boost from beating his old school, and now he’s more determined than ever to become his team’s ace. With Abe calling the pitches, the once shell-shocked hurler feels like he can strike out the world. But things won’t be easy for the Nishiura nine in the big summer tournament. They play the defending champs in the first round, and Mihashi comes down with a bad case of fastball envy when he bumps into Abe’s old pitcher. Playing for fun is fine, but now that the games count – it’s time to win!』
