>,Artist Not Providedprice: Adv Films Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (You'll Like this if you Loved...) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Rather than going over the story (which the other reviewers here have done exceedingly well), I will offer this: If you liked/loved Fruits Basket, Kaleidostar, Ouran High School Academy, Miyazaki's works, or Angelic Layer, then you will like/love this series as well. For our family, we have cycled through many anime titles in search of those that have the same combination of addictive qualites as those listed above. This one has landed high on that list - the top 3rd or 4th according to my wife! 』 (Cute, but not for everyone) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Pretear is, for lack of a better description, a modernized anime magical girl version of Snow White. While Himeno doesn't talk to animals like Snow White does&her stepmother isn't wicked (just a little self absorbed), she's still bossed around&bullied by her step sisters (one more so than the other). Enter a group of beautiful young bishies (each fulfilling a different type of bishie-ness), who proclaim that she's a princess that has to save the world from bad things that want to destroy everything. I liked this series, although I will admit that at times I got a little frustrated with the cuteness. Still, it's a small flaw&I ended up really enjoying this series. The characters are cute&there's a bishie for every fangirl (even the shouta fans). Would I recommend this to a friend? Only to the ones who like or can tolerate shoujo. The others wouldn't really get into it. Still, I'd recommend this to most, even if it was only as a rental.』 (Good, until the end.) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『The series was good and funny, until it decided to stray from it's lighthearted atmosphere (which is common in a lot of these types of animes). When the last 2 or 3 episodes show up, it becomes nearly unbearable for my viewing SPOILERS A few important characters seem to die, or be on the verge of death, and their death speeches are way too frikkin long. One death speech seemed to be enough (at about 3-5 minutes), but then that's all the rest of the episodes are! First it's one of the good guys (or one that used to be good), then another one, and then the person who is supposed to be bad but is on the verge of turning. These scenes get to be way too much for me. It turns into one of those animes where I wish the annoying characters would just die. The worst part is that they don't. They all live at the end, bad guy (er, gal) included! So 4 stars for the first 3/4 of the anime, 1 star for the last 1/4, 3 stars overall. At least the series started out funny, even though cliched.』 (shoujo done well) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『One of my friends lent me this anime long ago, and I wasn't overly excited, but I was very happily surprised. I'm not really one to pick such a girlie anime for myself, but the storyline contains enough action, and twists it held my attention.』 (It was okay....) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『The series was okay, but that was about it. Granted, the art was fairly well done and the musical score was fine, but the story plot was fairly predictable. Himeno (main character) is designated to battle evil with the help of the Leafe Knights, who give her power by... turning into dresses... Yes, she fights against the Princess of Disaster (main villain) with the power of accessorizing. That was about the only shock I got out of this series. After that, it was fairly easy to tell what was going to happen next. Younger individuals of about 13-15 would probably enjoy this series tremendously, but anyone older than that may find it a bit juvenile. Still, if you're a collector of Japanese Animation, I wouldn't say it's a complete waste of money. I sometimes watch this with friends so we can laugh (mostly because of the men turning into frilly skirts and such). But the characters are fairly fun, so if you just want to kill some time and not get seriously addicted to an incredible story plot, I'd say this would do fine』 『Studio: Adv Films Release Date: 08/09/2005 Run time: 325 minutes』 『 Pretear: Complete Collection > 『 Pretear: Complete Collection > 『 Fruits Basket - The Complete Series > 『 Fruits Basket - The Complete Series > 『 Ouran High School Host Club: Season 1, Part 1 > 『 Ouran High School Host Club: Season 1, Part 1 > 『 Pretear, Vol. 4 (v. 4) > 『 Pretear, Vol. 4 (v. 4) > 『 Ouran High School Host Club: Season One, Part Two > 『 Ouran High School Host Club: Season One, Part Two > I wanted to buy It↑ タイトル『 Transformers - Season Two, Part 1 > 『 Transformers - Season Two, Part 1 > 『 Transformers - Season Two, Part 2 > 『 Transformers - Season Two, Part 2 > 『 Transformers: Season One (Collector's Edition) > 『 Transformers: Season One (Collector's Edition) > 『 Transformers Season 3 Part 1 Boxed Set > 『 Transformers Season 3 Part 1 Boxed Set > 『 Transformers Season 3 Part 2/Season 4 Boxed Set > 『 Transformers Season 3 Part 2/Season 4 Boxed Set > 『 Transformers: The Complete First Season (25th Anniversary Edition) >

I had a great time watching these and they still capture kids attention 20+ years later.』 (Great for Fans) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Season two is where the Transformes mania really started to take off, even spawning the theatrical movie of 1986. In some ways season two is great. We get a lot more episodes and more characterization for out beloved bots. I think my biggest complaint about the second season would have to be the "Transformer of the week" syndrome that plagued it. This was an unfortunate side effect of the show's popularity. Hasbro was looking to sell as many toys as possible so we had tons of new characters on both sides of the conflict popping up with no explanation. Here is where the pushing aside of fan favorites started. But this season also gave us four episodes focusing on fan favorites the Dinobots, even adding two more Dinos to the beloved team of Mayhem. While there are some really bizarre episodes in this set like "Atlantis Arise" there are some real gems like "Microbots," "Changing Gears," and despite the silliness of the premise "A Decepticon Raider in King Aurthur's Court." While some of the jokes fall flat, many still make me laugh today. The dialog was written in the west and doesn't tend to suffer the cultural gap that later versions of TF written in the East seem to. Unfortunately animation errors abound and can be a bit jarring at times. It seems they did little to correct these with the release. I really enjoyed the episodes all in all and have a great time popping in a DVD and reminiscing about wishing I could meet Optimus Prime as a kid. If your a fan of G1, you'll love it.』 『Earth is the battleground, control of the Universe is the prize, and the only defense is an army of Autobots able to transform into massive fighting machines as powerful as their enemy—the deadly Decepticons. The Second Raid (TSR) is characterised by violence and strong language. The enemies are crazier and deadlier, the Arm Slave action better and the Chidori-Sagara relationship cools a little. The upper echelons of Mithril play a strong part in the plot, which is unfortunate because several more seasons would be required to reveal what could be going on there. Tessa's brother plays a teaser role, again unfortunate because he obviously needs a full season on his own. This season feels like the Empire Strikes Back of a trilogy. Dark, brutal, violent, it is excellent in its own right: but it requires at least another season to follow it. TSR follows on reasonably directly from FMP season one. The Fumoffu! season can be seen as a comic relief interlude, and fits between the two.』 (Digitally Remastered and Packaged in a New Smaller Boxset) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Funimation has taken one of its most well respected mecha franchises and decided to give it digital remastering treatment for an upcoming Complete Series box set release. Coming in at a total runtime of 320 minutes, Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TSR) The Complete Series spans 3-discs packaged in a pair of thin packs within a nice cardboard outer slipcase. As with the previous release, the set comes complete with the TSR OVA, Episode 000, 7-part featurette (scouting in Hong Kong), textless songs and a crop of Funimation anime trailers. Language options are quite thorough with English (Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround or original broadcast Stereo) and Japanese (Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround or original broadcast Stereo) with the option of running English subtitles below either language track choice. The program wears an appropriate TV 14 rating due to some violent sequences, themes of conflict, and a bit of non-suggestive female (incestual) nudity. In my opinion the mark of a solid piece of sequel anime is a show's ability to not only present new material but to also seamlessly intertwine it with the plot of the original. Enter Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid (TSR) from anime master workers, Funimation. This gorgeous set represents the proper formula for improving upon the season before it (which just so happens to be the first of the series) without pulling the story off onto an unrelated tangent. The Second Raid follows the exploits of mercenary soldier Sousuke Sagara who, right from the beginning, does an adequate job of fulfilling his undercover mission as a regular high school student. Unlike the first season, which focused more on the importance of female-lead character Kaname Chidori, this time the viewer is treated to a bit more sympathetic take on the almost child-like innocence of Sousuke. While their hot and cold romance still forms the backbone of the tale, there is no shortage of political motivation or interesting characters to accompany the action. While Souske resumes his meteoric rise to the title of Sergeant for the paramilitary outfit called Mithril, the major struggle being presented finds Mithril locked in battle with the terrorist group Amalgam. In truth, and despite how well the good guys are presented here, it's tough not to find the bad guys terribly interesting. Among these is a lesbian pair of twin sister assassins, the enigmatic Leonard Testarossa (who just so happens to be the brother of Mithril's own cheery colonel, Teletha) and his extremely wicked robotic enforcers. Last but certainly not least is the lead villain Gates who, quite frankly, captures the concept of full ought insanity in animated form like something American animators can only dream of achieving through The Joker. And since Full Metal Panic! initially hooked me with its near-flawless use of mecha, it's only proper that I take a moment to recognize the simple truth that TSR not only picks up where the first season left off, it may even supercede the robotic combat at times. Notable here is the ongoing struggle for Souske to make full use of the full abilities of his unit, the Arbalest, and its emotion controlled Lambda Driver. In my opinion the FMP series succeeds where other robot shows fail in both the mobility of the robots (called Arm Slaves or AS' for short) is in their sheer speed and maneuverability. Right from the beginning of the very first episode viewers are treated to an incredible display of AS stealth, speed, and power. It's cinematic showmanship in the purest form and enough to give even diehard anime fans the chills. Although not entirely essential to the overall plot progression, I should mention that another Arm Slave, the M9 Falke, makes a few appearances that just dazzle with eerie coolness. The discs themselves contain no shortage of bonus entertainment. The complete 13-episode series is presented across three discs in uncut, digitally remastered glory with dialog coming in the selectable form of English, Japanese or in original broadcast format with English subtitles. While the series itself technically consisted of 13 episodes, Funimation packed both a mini-bonus episode (complete with a scene that had this reviewer actually laughing out loud) and a conclusion OVA full-length episode as well. There is a 7-part featurette entirely in Japanese with English subtitles that does a few interesting things whether they were intentional or not. The first of which is that this section provides an unrivaled look at the Hong Kong lifestyle complete with unlimited comparisons to how life differs there from life in a typical US city. Next it paints the show's creative staff in an entirely different light. I'm guilty of stereotyping anime writers, producers, artists, and directors as moody, withdrawn and slightly disturbed individuals but nothing could be further from the truth with the down-to-earth team responsible for FMP. Finally, anime may be known for an unsurpassed level of detail but never is this reality made clearer than when the viewer is offered a chance to look at the actual Hong Kong locations that inspired the backgrounds of the show. It's downright mind-boggling and a testament to the amount of work that goes into putting a series like this together! Additionally the set contains a comical little segment in which our creative team takes a trip to a Japanese Self-Defense Force expo for inspiration on the military equipment that appears throughout the series. There are Japanese (English subtitled) commentary tracks across every single episode from several of the show's voice actors and finally the set offer textless versions of the show's theme songs. The truth is that it is very difficult if not impossible to come away from this presentation without having taken something worth remembering. The anime itself is rich, deep, and oftentimes silly enough to warrant a chuckle but there's something here even for those who wouldn't consider themselves fans of the genre. The creative process and attention to detail is downright awe-inspiring.』 『The complete series digitally remastered! It’s tough to keep your grades up without having to take off at a moment’s notice to save the world. But for Sousuke Sagara, undercover high school student and member of the mercenary group Mithril, life in Tokyo seemed the same as always. But underneath the promising exterior spin the wheels of aconspiracy that threaten to destroy the peace. A new threat has arisen: Amalgam. An unknown element with advanced mech technology, this mysterious organization has been running things from behind the scenes. As dissension spreads throughout the ranks of Mithril, Sousuke faces his own internal struggle. Spread thin between schoolwork and war, the powers that be have decided to lighten his load… beginning with Kaname! Life and death hang in the balance as the clash between good and evil scale new heights. When the smoke clears, Sousuke’s path will be the one that he forges for himself.』 『 Full Metal Panic! I have watched it several times which is rare for me. The art styles change throughout the show and the characters are some of the most lively. My favorite comedic episode was 12 because of all the american parodies that went into the title. I only have one disappointment with the series. At the end it seemed to end really quick. Though called the final episode it was extremely good and then after the credits there is a preview for a new episode called mystery. I looked everywhere for the episode, but no luck. I will say that if you like parodies and wacky slap stick comedies. You will love to watch this show.』 (Great show. Great case.) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『After opening the metal tin the show comes in I realized just how funny it would be. The show is about two best friends, the boys' dad, his grandpa, and some weird french guy who I think is suppose to be his uncle or something. Anyway, the grandpa falls off a building and the kids wind up in a different world but still in the "shopping arcade" that they grew up in. They have to defeat a goblin in each world so it will send them "home" but it always seems to go wrong and they wind up in another world. Very funny show with some serious points too.』 (No matter how much geek knowledge you possess) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『If I had to describe "Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi," it would be simple: "Fooly Cooly" as written by Lewis Carroll. That's only a glimpse of the explosive weirdness and insanely cracked-out madness that fills every episode of this wacky anime series. And while "Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi: Perfect Collection" starts off a bit slowly, this brilliant series soon blossom into an acid-tripping flower filled with constant spoofs, genre cliches, and lots of fanservicey breasts. Sasshi is unhappy -- the Abenobashi Shopping Arcade is being bought out for demolition, and his friend Arumi is going to be moving away. Fortunately they are distracted from their impending separation by a series of mysterious animal statues all throughout the Arcade. But when Arumi's grandfather is badly injured and the bird statue is smashed, Arumi and Sasshi find themselves sucked into a freaky D&D-video-game-esque fantasy land, where they are called upon to defeat the stereotypically Evil Lord. Unfortunately, Arumi spends all their money on a mysterious charm by a blue-haired sorcerer, and Sasshi keeps getting killed by the insane, scantily-clad Mune Mune. Each attempt to get back home sends Sasshi and Arumi to another cracked-out variant of Abenobashi -- a mecha space station with a hulking mecha, a Chinese martial-arts competition, a Flintstonesy dinosaur age, a noir gangster story, a dating sim, the ultimate girl fantasy land (or so Sasshi thinks!), a deranged warzone, and a frenetic mishmash of every movie Sasshi has ever seen. But where did all these crazy worlds come from? Who are Mune Mune and the grumpy sorcerer Eutus, and what is their connection to Sasshi? The secrets of the shopping arcade are revealed even as Sasshi comes face-to-face with a tragedy that keeps him from letting Arumi go home... "Neon Genesis Evangelion," martial-arts, "Dragonball Z," medieval S&S fantasy, hard-boiled noir, "Monty Python" ("My old wound from the WAR!"), war movies, "Indiana Jones," and even "2001: A Space Odyssey." All of these get spoofed and/or lovingly homaged -- not to mention minor tropes such as shouting anime attack names, or the little details ("But it's standard BGM"). The first half or so of the series is pretty much a steady stream of wacky spoof mayhem, peppered with endless fanservice (Mune Mune's mostly-nude getups), repeated deaths ("I saw the beginnin' and the end of the UNIVERSE!"), and plots full of random and inexplicable twists ("I don't understand! Why am I a dumpling?" Sasshi moans after getting encased in a dumpling and sent off the top of a skyscraper). But about halfway through, the insanity is threaded with an elaborate and rather sad subplot, involving the death of a much-loved family member, a legendary Omnyoji, and a centuries-old love triangle. Sasshi makes a good hero for this series -- he's a die-hard geek who enjoys all the weirdness (including repeated deaths) and acquires some world-changing new powers. But the core of his personality turns out to be his desire to save Arumi from heartbreak. Arumi herself is a good counterpoint -- down to earth, steady, and a bit crazy by the end ("Let Sasshi know the torments of HEEEEEEEEELLLLLLL..."). And it has a pretty fun supporting cast, with the same family members playing out different roles in every world. The only exceptions are Mune-Mune (a loopy half-naked redhead whose true identity is a shock) and Eutus (a sorcerer having a midlife crisis). "Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi" is a wild, tripped-out ride that mingles a fantastical coming-of-age story with chaotic spoofery. Delightful.』 (Hilarious) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This is a great series for anyway who feels like having a good laugh at themselves or things they enjoy. In this series, Sasshi and Arumi are constantly being taken to mysterious worlds where the rules seem to be slightly off. From RPG and Sci-Fi worlds to war films, this series parodies and pokes fun at the various genres many of us hold dear. While we are going through these odd situations, there is a serious story being developed in the background that puts this above many other parody anime. As for the extras, I found the AD Vid-Notes to be helpful in getting some of the more obscure references made in the series and some of the notes are funny on their own. The outtakes for this series are amazing. They feature the voice actors re-recording lines over events that actually occur in the show. If you want to laugh I would highly recommend this series (1 warning, they use the Osaka accent = southern accent convention).』 (A must see for fans of Anime with a sense of humor) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『As the main characters bounce from reality to reality, you'll see every anime cliche spoofed in outrageous fashion. So far, "Maria Watches Over Us" is a winner for yuri fans, with gentle romance stories involving Catholic girls in high school. Catholic girls in America would probably not consider lesbian romance as acceptable, but "Maria Watches Over Us" manages to squeeze in emotional romance without any dispositions at all. Yumi Fukuzawa is a shy first-year student at the Lilian Girl's Academy. After praying at the statue of the virgin Mary, a third-year student named Sachiko Ogasawara ties Yumi's neckerchief. However, a photographer named Tsutako took a picture of Yumi and Sachiko together. She will only give the picture back to Yumi if Tsutako gets permission from the Sachiko to display the photo at the school's upcoming festival. Of course, Yumi has no idea that Sachiko is a member of the Yamayuri council, the student council of Lilian Girl's Academy. Sachiko also proposes to give a rosary to Yumi, so that she can be Sachiko's petite soeur, or little sister. Yumi is too shy to accept at first, but as she bonds with her friends in the Yamayuri council, she can't help but love her new family of big sisters in the Yamayuri. This is a wonderful series with a surprising amount of drama and emotional romance. One would never think that the Yamayuri council would feature so many thoughtful stories of romance. Sachiko's conflict with her family forces her to find a new relationship with Yumi. Yoshino Shimazu wants to get a heart transplant, but worries about her grande soeur (older sister), Rei Hasukura. And Sei Sato has a dark past, a young, forbidden romance. This box covers episodes 1-13. This series also features an awesome special feature named "Don't Tell Maria," which includes hilarious bloopers of each of the episodes. Although the series is a little pricey at $45, it's still one heck of a bargain, considering that anime fans receive this excellent anime with great special feature for almost every episode.』 (A truly beautiful anime) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I was unsure of what to expect from this anime. It was mostly a whim purchase based on a desire for some good, character-driven storylines. I couldn't be more pleased. The story takes place at Lillian Girls' Academy, a realm where decorum and grace are stressed, and the rules are relaxed somewhat in favour of a mentoring (senpai/kouhai) system. In this system, an older student chooses a girl to become her petite soeur, or little sister. The bond between sisters is meant to be strong, as the younger learns from the older and the older nurtures the younger. The story is mostly told from the perspective of Fukuzawa Yumi, a young first-year student who's thrust headfirst into the emotional politics of the soeur system from almost the moment she arrives at the school. The storyline is beautiful and romantic, and the characters are given a depth of feeling that's typical of good shoujo anime. Those looking for yuri will be disappointed. This is not an erotic tale of the secret love of women at an all-girls' school. This is simply pure romance. And best of all, there's not a ninja, gun, robot, sword, spaceship, or monster in sight.』 (Great Title) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I loved this season of Maria Watches Over Us. It was excellent the characters are deep and you begin to really care for them after just a few episodes. I will definitely buy the next season when it comes out. Alright now that I got out the initial part, I wanted to say that this is NOT a yuri anime in anyway and if that is what you are looking for you came to the wrong place. This is a very sweet story about Yumi and her Onee-sama (Sachiko). Although this can be defined as such an anime because of the lack of men accept in certain episodes. When watching this you start to make a connection to Yumi in the fact that she is basically a regular person that had something unique happen to her basically by coincidence. After which she rejects it at first, but after sometime she begins to accept it and live life with this unique circumstance. Anyway, I would recommend this series to anyone that wants to see a good drama, and/or romance.』 『When Yumi Fukuzawa entered the Lillian Girls Academy, a prestigious all-girls Catholic school in Tokyo, she never imagined she would catch the eye of beautiful and demure Sachiko Ogasawara, one of the school's most popular students. The entire campus is abuzz with rumors about the two of them, but Yumi is conflicted over accepting Sachiko s offer. So I would say if you aren't that uber anime nerd, just cringe your teeth past the poor acting and really watch the story. I really liked it and the fact that it's not $120 a series makes it a really good buy. You should also check out some of Clamps other works (like Tsubasa) because they do throw in some interesting little things into their story. The reason I don't give this a 5 is because I think even if though it's really good, it's not the series that everyone can automatically get into (I apologize to the anime viewers that eat classic anime for breakfast, lunch, and dinner) because the dialogue if you want a sample it's stuff like, "HIKARU!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" if someone is injured or "You were my best friend, I can't believe you would turn against me. I can't possibly attack you." so for people that really, really can't stand that for a good story, I would suggest reading the manga because it's shorter and easier to get through (6 manga in total or 3 per series).』 (I love this Series!!!!!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『This economy box is great! This is not your run of the mill anime series. First, you must be patient with MKR...its begins rather slow and gives little or no background about the characters. It is also emotional. I find that refreshing, because many anime series are all about panty shots and robots...ie MOLDIVER. The animation is NOT upto par with clamp's manga, or even cardcaptor sakura. The animation reminds me of NADIA or something from the late 80's. But the facinating and complex storyline pulls you in. And when the mecha finally shows up (The RUNE GODS), its Awesome. It is not as detailed as Gundam, but apparently, the ladies get hit whenever the mecha gets hit. Yep, there's a bit of blood in this series (would have made a perfect show for FOX and they wouldn't have to butcher it like they did Escaflowne). That what it reminded me of, with the robots, the girls and emotion of the show, Escaflowne. There are no panty shots (the potential is there) and the violence is as mild as Macross. I don't even know why its 13 and up. There's body lines (ie Sailor Moon), but no profanity and no overtly sexual details. The end of the series WILL MAKE YOU GO BUY MKR2. By the way...Rayearth is Hitomi's Rune God. He doesn't show up until the end of the series. The Dubbed V.A.'s and the opening and closing songs dubbed and in its original Japanese is high pitched and annoying. I got so emotionally connected in the series...The ending made me angry...I found myself yelling at the characters like they could hear me. Dragon Ball never made me do that. That's why MKR should be a part of any Anime lover's possession. 』 『Three junior high school girls hear a voice pleading for them to save Cephiro, a magical world where belief is power. What would have been more interesting would have been stories about the backstories of Morpheus, Trinity, Zion, the Oracle, the Architect, etc... A story about Agent Smith set between the first and second would have been interesting but no instead we get 9 random stories many of which have little to do with the main story line. Back when I was still keen on the world of Matrix, I couldn't wait for this to come out to fill in the gaps before Matrix Revolutions. God, I was so let down with both! Instead of 9 stories, many of them barely related to the main storyline of the Matrix movies, they should have made 3-4 longer fleshed out stories which added to the Matrix universe. These 9 short films don't give us much in the way of character development, plot, or tie in with the movie. Final Flight of the Osiris is a background story to a small bit of dialogue in Matrix Reloaded. Nothing too revealing here. Great animation but a lot of eye candy which seems to be the trend in animatrix - lots of eye candy and very little substance. Renaissance parts I&II - the rise of the machines and the beginning of the Matrix. In the beginning I really liked these because they gave us the history of the Matrix but now on the other hand it doesn't really jive with the movies' feel and storyline. Plus we lose empathy for the humans because they are shown as horrible in the two parts - was this suppose to be machine propaganda? A cautionary but predictable preachy tale for Sci-Fi which while interesting if it were for another storyline doesn't somehow gel with the overall theme. Kid's Story - pointless story about a pointless character. You can tell he was thrown into Reloaded just as a marketing tie. Detective Story - beautiful animation but pointless story that doesn't make any sense. Why did Trinity agree to meet him? why did the agents need him to track her down? This had potential but the story is too short and therefore maddeningly incomprehensible. Trinity and the detective talk as though they had more than a few lines of dialogue in a chat room and a minute before they are running from agents. Not enough happened for either of them to care about the other and the tag line at the end - "...a case to end all cases" just makes it ultimately a disappointment because it certainly wasn't as the detective never really made any revelations. Beyond - beautiful but pointless story about a glitch in the Matrix which creates a "haunted" house in Japan where the laws of physics don't apply. Cute but completely pointless. Program - I liked this one with the samurai theme. Interesting story about choosing between the harsh reality of truth and the seeming comfort of the Matrix but again it adds nothing to the overall matrix storyline. World Record - why was this in here? This seems like someone polishing up an old unused idea they had which they retooled to fit into the Matrix universe. It's about a self-absorbed runner running so fast he could see past the illusion of the Matrix. He wakes up briefly. the ending makes no sense because he only wanted to set a record no one could break. No deep thinker here. And too much show off anime padding like the close up of a spinning key that the runner tosses to a doorman. Did we really need that except to marvel at the animation? Marticulated - interesting animation but weird storyline seeming to be more interested in the animation style than the story. Now with everything said and done 2 lackluster sequels, a boring video game, and an online game that went kaput, the Matrix world has closed and this DVD comes off as pointless fluff. If only they had stopped at the first movie.』 (Decent addition to the Matrix ; not intrument to make The Matrix better) ![]() ![]() ![]() 『I can't believe I just watched the whole DVD for the first time after all these years... The animations are generally pretty visceral, and they are entertaining in that respect. Perhaps inevitably, this leads to some potentially disturbing images. Nothing too gruesome, and the artistry in some of the CG segments more than make up for it. The Last Flight of the Osiris is a particularly pleasing sensual experience. Unfortunately, the intellectual aspect of Animatrix is no better than the movies themselves, which is sorely wanting. Two of its showpieces, The Second Renaissance I and II, are maddeningly ludicrous. Nevermind the fact that liquefied human flesh cannot supply new useful energy to sustain new human bodies, except ultimately as a source of raw matter in E = mc^2. Nevermind the logical impossibility of a machine race that simultaneously possesses a singular (in the words of Morpheus himself) and individual consciousness (as evident by varying machine behavior in the anime). The portrayal of humans in these animes are downright insulting. It is as though the people of the future, who can build a race of servile robots and devise a plan as diabolical as blocking out the sun, lack the basic foresight to form a useful plan against a city-state of machines, that stayed friendly and peaceful to let humans initiate a thousand-warhead nuclear bombardment. It seems a school of adolescents can come up with more creative and more useful plans. As a result, I find the Animatrix to be all in good fun as long as I watch it as a piece of visual art to be enjoyed. However, as with many works of art, trying to dig too deeply, too intellectually, one digs a hole so deep that Plato could not climb out. Be like Smith. Have fun; don't be so serious. You may need to remind young, impressionable watchers this point.』 (A good source for the backstory of The Matrix trilogy) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『The Animatrix consists of nine animated shorts that revolve around the Wachowski Brothers' trilogy of The Matrix films. Seven of the nine shorts are considered to be anime; "Final Flight of the Osiris" and "Metriculated" are the two shorts that are not considered to be anime. Madhouse, one of the major animation studios in Japan, was involved with almost all seven of the anime shorts. The names involved with the seven anime shorts are Mahiro Maeda, Shinichiro Watanabe, Yoshiaki Kawajiri, Takeshi Koike, and Koji Morimoto. While all seven of these stories are done in an anime style, the animation style is different for each story (with the only exception being the two parts of "The Second Renaissance," which have the same animation style). Each director brought their own style to the short they were working on. While most of these shorts are not inter-related, you can still tell that they are part of the same whole unit of The Animatrix. The DVD release includes some bonus features. There are audio commentaries for "The Second Renaissance Part I," "The Second Renaissance Part II," "Program," and "World Record." There are subtitles provided, because the audio for the commentaries is in Japanese. There is a 22-minute documentary titled, "Scrolls to Screen: The History and Culture of Anime." There are text-only biographies for the directors and the segment producers involved with The Animatrix. There are also "making of" mini-features for the various shorts, and each mini-feature runs for roughly seven minutes. There is also a DVD-ROM link. I would recommend The Animatrix to anyone over the age of eighteen, due to the violence included in the shorts. I would definitely recommend this DVD to a fan of The Matrix films, so they can acquire some backstory for the films, as well as see some additional stories for The Matrix universe.』 (Much Better Than the Actual Movies) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Let me say straight out, I have never been a fan of the Matrix movies. What started out as an obvious ripoff of John Woo films and Ghost in the Shell was drawn out into an unnecessary trilogy for purely financial reasons. The Wachowski brothers are without a doubt two of the biggest hacks in Hollywood, just look at the failure of their Speed Racer adaptation. However, the idea of the Animatrix was genius; take the premise of the Matrix, strip away all the useless martial arts attempts at action scenes and focus on the truly interesting part of these films, the story. The centerpiece is without a doubt the finest; "The Second Renaissance". This two-part story tells the most interesting piece of drama, the back story, and the dark depths to which this chapter goes show the true destructive nature of humanity. If only the films had focused on the first war between humans and machines, we might not have had such horribly acted pretentious dribble. Several of the other shorts are excellent as well. "Final Flight of the Osiris" demonstrates Square's perfection for human CGI animation (second only to Pixar), while Peter Chung takes his hyper-intelligent mold of anime to the extreme in "Matriculated". What becomes clear to the viewer after time and repeated viewings, is these artists are infinitely more creative than the Wachowskis, who should have perhaps stayed as producers on the film trilogy, and handed over directorial control to someone more capable, and more competent.』 (Good Set of Stories!!!) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 『Animatrix is a set of short stories that take place in the matrix universe, each with there own animation style.
