I'll have to go to the manga version for that. If your a fan, this series is excellent.』
(InuYasha Season 6 Box Set) 『The media came punctually and it was brand new. I can't wait to watch it!』
(Excellent!) 『As usual, my season came quickly, but the box did have minor damage; a slightly crushed side. This did not damage the disc's in any way, and they all played perfectly. The damage could have happened in transit, so I would not hold it against the supplier. The box is still usable.』
(Inuyasha is a classic Anime!) 『I for one don't like a lot of anime; but only have a select few favorites... one being Inuyasha. That is because I like Inuyasha for it's unique story and great cast of characters; not to mention the style and genre the anime fits into my personallity!
I mean they don't call this show a fuedal fairy tale for nothing you know! That's why I love it so much; it has lots of sword swinging action in fuedal Japan, romance between the 3 key characters Inuyasha, Kikyo,&Kagome, and a bunch of LOL comedy with the other characters!
Season 6 of Inuyasha is especially great; and there are some episodes that make it so great! My favorite episodes include Hakudoshi unleashing Entei the horse, Miroku banquet to his master, Miroku proposing to Sango, Seesshomaru saving the otter boy's father, and many others!
Plus I think it's just great to have the entire Inuyasha Seasons on DVD; since you don't have to worry about having them recorded on your old VHS tapes! That is because I'm a collector;&I love having DVD's of all of my favorite shows&movies!』
(AMAZING!) 『This season was very interesting and TOTALLY worth watching! It has episode 127-146.
This season is about: As if battling demons and searching for the Sacred Jewel shards weren't tough enough, Kagome also faces the battles of a very modern-day student, like preparing for a school festival and a love scene in the class play! But demons wait for no one, and soon enough Kagome is back in the past, encountering demon women that test the bond between Miroku and Sango, a woman who's mysteriously in love with Inuyasha's brother Sesshomaru, and an ancestor of the boy with a crush on Kagome in the present day!
This boxset has: the 20 episodes of season 5, special footage, bilingual (english&japanese), english subtitles, and the textless opening and ending.

Bilingual (Japanese and English) with English subtitles』 『Much of the sixth season of Rumiko Takahashi's "Feudal Fairy Tale"Inu Yashahas a lighter tone than the previous instalmments. Insanity reigns when the dried demon parts Kagome unwittingly brought into the present day are reconstituted during her school cultural festival. Inu-Yasha, his ears hidden beneath an incongruous baseball cap, destroys them--while making mincemeat of Kagome's class play (an episode that recalls the performance of "Romeo and Juliet" inRanma 1/2). Fox-spirit Shippo begins to come into his own as a character, claiming a bigger role in the story and arguing with the powerful Inu-Yasha. In the main story line, Naraku has collected all but four of the shards of the sacred Shikkon Jewel: wolf-demon Koga holds two; Sango's possessed brother Kohaku has the third. The fourth is caught between the realms of the living and dead, near the tomb of Inu-Yasha's father: But only the dead can cross into that world. Naraku searches for the path to the shard using Kagura and Hakudoshi, the repulsive avatar he created from his human heart (the heart of Onigumo, the thief who loved Kikyo decades earlier). These episodes offer plenty of action, including a battle with the firey horse-demon Entei and his ugly master Rengokuki. The filmmakers begin to draw the strands of the plot together for the seventh and final season: Miroku and Sango admit their affection for each other, and Inu-Yasha realizes that Kagome's influence has cooled the desire for power that once consumed him. The Deluxe Edition comes with an Inu- Yasha watch. (Rated "Teen:" suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, alcohol use, brief nudity)--Charles Solomon

The Band Of Seven was a nice touch with the show giving us a collection of new enemies to dislike, loathe, and somewhat sympathize with throughout Inu Yasha's ordeal, out of all the band of seven that were my most favorite were Bankotsu and Jokotsu even though Naraku had resurrected the band of seven to engage Inu Yasha and his friends we see that Naraku's true objective is far more bigger than even Inu Yasha suspects. The fights between the band of seven against Inu Yasha, Koga, and Seeshomaru are exciting to watch and the episodes entertaining you won't really see to much of Naraku in this season set either except near the end for about two to three episodes. One thing as well not so much on the box set but if any hardcore fans of the show or manga are interested and I'm sure some already know this but they have started making new episodes called Inu Yasha Final Act and I'm definitely hoping that if VIZ Media starts putting these episodes out for the U.S. fans that for the dubbed they can hopefully get the original cast to play their roles again. So for all Inu Yasha fans rejoice as another season set has come for you to add to your home library..』

Season 5 of Inuyasha is without a doubt my favorite seasons of all time! There are too many episodes to call my favorites; but when it all boils down to picking the best ones it's just tough! To name a all of the best episodes/moments are: when we first meet Bankotsu&he takes his sword back from the lords castle, when Renkotsu hands over the jewl shards to Bankotsu, Miroku uses his wind tunnel in Mount Hakurai to save Sango from Kagura's demons, Inuyasha strikes Jakotsu down,&when a frightened Renkotsu gets his shards taken from Bankotsu! Bilingual (Japanese and English) with English subtitles』 『The 5th season of Rumiko Takahashi's "feudal fairy tale"Inu Yashais the darkest, as the familiar characters confront questions of survival, death, and love. Naraku remains hidden, creating a new body for himself as his protective barrier was shattered at end of Season 3. Kagome, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Inu-Yasha spend most of these episodes battling the Band of Seven, a group of bloodthirsty mercenaries whom Naraku brought back from the dead with shards of the Sacred Jewel. More savage in death than they were in life, the seven zombies must be fought with strength and intelligence. But dangerous as they are, the Band of Seven are minor players. Naraku's schemes force Kagome and Inu-Yasha to acknowledge their feelings for each other--and even shed tears. Using others as pawns, Naruto succeeds in his monstrous plot, turning his human heart (the heart of Onigumo, the thief who loved Kikyo decades earlier), into a malevolent infant. But there's still plenty of time for comedy--Inu-Yasha and wolf-demon Koga squabble endlessly, and Miroku is still an unapologetic lecher. Although the shards of the Sacred Jewel play an important role, the mission to assemble them all is rarely mentioned. Presumably, that plotline will return in the two remaining seasons. The Deluxe Edition Box Set, which is limited to 15,000 copies, includes a hanging scroll of Sesshomaru.(Rated "Teen:" suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, alcohol use, brief nudity)--Charles Solomon』

(My favorite part of the series) 『This is in my opinion the best part of the entire series as it is about the most action-packed part, with Teams Urameshi and Toguro bringing in the final bouts of the Dark Tournament, the entire Toguro team being Monstrously strong, and cunning versus the underdogs Team Urameshi who have yet to face such a ruthless enemy under such overwhelming odds, and both sides have a few tricks to unveil making for an exciting end to a deadly competition.』
(It's Yu Yu Hakusho I Mean Come On!!!) 『well basically this is the continuation and resolution of the dark tournament finals and then the story of the previous spirit detective turned rogue. if you're a fan of yu yu hakusho why wouldn't you get all four seasons. if you're looking for an anime that is big on fighting, comedy and are not afraid of some coarse language this is for you. i not only recommend this set but the first 2 and the coming 1 on jan 13, i already have it pre-ordered. yu yu hakusho is one of the best animes because it actually has a storyline and plot that have you wanting more and because it is action packed as well. get the whole set, you wont be sorry』
(Love it) 『I love this series and I like the fact that the dvds are uncut, I get to see the parts they didn't show on cartoonnetwork』
(The Beginning of the End) 『The season 3 box set starts off with the remainder of the Dark Tournament as Hiei has an extremely destructive and entertaining battle with the powerful Bui. Then Kuwabara has a rather strange fight with ELder Toguro with Kuwabara defeating him in a very improvised way. Then comes the final duel between Spirit Detective Yusuke Urameshi and his Demon nemesis Younger Toguro who gives Yusuke the fight of his life. The battle is raw and violent however finishing in a quiet graceful manner. After Toguro is defeated everyone resumes their usual lives but Yusuke is then taken hostage by 3 teenagers with strange psychic abilities, this however was just friendly training as a new threat emerges that has been hiding in the shadows for some time. A group of 7 psychics wants to bring in the age of Apocalypse for the human race and have demons storm the living world in mass through a permanent tunnel connecting the two worlds. The leader of this movement is former Spirit Detective Shinobu Sensui who has gone renegade. Despite Yusuke's immense power Sensui renders Yusuke completely useless and outclassed with Sensui powering up to S class beyond anything Spirit World can handle and mere minutes from having a stable tunel into the demon world. Yusuke will also have to face death a second time as the fallen hero claims his life in battle and his friends although powered with motivation have little chance to even survive an encounter with the renegade spirit detective......All in all the final of the dark tournament is very entertaining and fun to watch to top that off you are introduced to the most viscious of all the villains in YuYuHakusho (Never satisfied Never full They eat with grubby hands until nothing is left but piss)-Shinobu Sensui who gives the YYH gang the worst beating of their lives and then some. The Chapterblack saga is without question the best of all the sagas and you get to see it begin here.』 『The Dark Tournament has come down to a final grudge match and Yusuke’s full wrath is unleashed as a friend’s blood stains the arena floor. But there will be no time for rest or recovery as kidnapping follows victory and further intrigue threatens the boundary between worlds. A tunnel is being carved, one which completed will lay waste to the World of the Living. There are seven who seek an age of destruction and chaos, and hero must battle fallen hero.』 『The third season of the popular fantasy-adventureYu Yu Hakushobegins with the conclusion of the "Dark Tournament" storyline, as Yusuke dukes it out with the mighty demon Toguro the Younger. Toguro morphs into an over-muscled monster who makes the Incredible Hulk look scrawny; Yusuke unleashes his incredible spiritual power. Their duel takes almost five episodes to reach its conclusion. The "Dark Tournament" saga felt a lot like aDragon Ball Zadventure, with characters screaming challenges, ramping up their powers, and punching each other through stone walls. And likeDragon Ball Z, the tone was light enough that no one really minded if characters who were killed in action didn't stay dead. But as the new "Black Chapters Saga" story arc gets underway, the tone ofYu Yu Hakushogrows darker and more violent: humans are being tormented and slaughtered, not just bizarre-looking demons. Koenma summons Yusuke to resume his duties as Spirit Detective. Humans in one part of Tokyo have begun manifesting strange and dangerous spiritual powers, including creating weird alternate dimensions or "Territories." Working with the deformed Toguro the Elder and six recruits, Sensui, Yusuke's predecessor as Spirit Detective, is building a tunnel between the Human Realm and the Demon Realm. Repulsed by the cruelty he witnessed on the Black Chapters, a Spirit Realm tape of humanity's evil deeds, Sensui has decided to destroy mankind by unleashing monstrously powerful demons. Naturally, only Yusuke and the members of Team Urameshi can prevent this disaster. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (One of the best I have ever seen) 『I watched the anime Samurai 7 long time ago !!! One of my real favorites. The fighting scenes are awesome , the characters close to Kurosawas movie ! I`m happy I could buy now the complete box set.』
(Echoes of Kurosawa.) 『I'll be honest and say that when I ordered Samurai 7, I wasn't really expecting to get Kurosawa's brilliance encapsulated in animated form. That said, the great man himself was fond of trying the impossible and I believe that he would have found the basic theory of the idea perfectly acceptable.
For my review I'm going to assume that you've watched the original movie, Kurosawa's 1954 classic "The Seven Samurai", a period movie set in the 16th century in Feudal Japan. A period of great unrest, many of the Samurai were forced to turn Ronin, masterless soldiers willing to fight to the death for a bowl of rice and a cup of water. Seven restless warriors turn their hands to defending a village of helpless peasants not for honour, not for profit - for all the rice they can eat.
Samurai 7 preserves that basic idea, but the details of the story are chopped around. You'll recognise each of the seven and some of the peasants too, but the rather wet love interest in Kurosawa's work is replaced by a stern young priestess and her irrepressible young sister. Whacky hijinks ensue. More time is spent on each of the characters backstories and additional plot arcs are whacked in around and beneath that central plank that is the spine of the story.
The writing is good, the dubbed version is actually pretty watchable and the animation itself mixes traditional and CGI elements acceptably, if not seamlessly. Although the tale twists and turns a bit, the bad guys are the bad guys and the good guys are always the good guys - and the central tenets enthroned in Kurosawa's work are held up here too - Loyalty, Bravery and daring to make a difference.
That said, this IS an action Anime show. The replacement of the eyepatch wearing and horse riding bandits with giant Mecha and battleships stretches credibility at times. You really have to understand Zen and Bushido to 'get' why the sword of a true Samurai can affect the biggest of these gigantic foes - even then it can look a little over the top. It is undeniable, however, that the makers had a healthy respect for the original work and looking for the many little homages that are densely scattered within this 'reimagining' of the original story warms the heart of an old fan.
I heartily recommend this Anime for any Seven Samurai fanatic or Otaku who likes action and Mecha anime. If you haven't seen the original movie and aren't a fan of mecha anime I rather more cautiously recommend it. If you're simply a fan of well made Anime looking for a new series, you can do a lot worse than try this out - especially at this price.
Above all, if you haven't seen the Kurosawa film and you really enjoyed this anime - go buy it!』
(Worth a watch) 『There's a few complaints about the series....varying quality in the art at some points is probably the main one but as for the rest of the series....if you watch episode one and you're even slightly like me then you'll be hooked all series. Does this anime break my top 5? No it doesn't but I'd still strongly recommend it since the action and characters are about as good as you can get.』
(The first two thirds are awesome. Then.....meh.) 『So I just got done watching this and the first two thirds of this series were amazing. I was watching it thinking I had finally found the perfect anime. They truly did honor to Akira Kurosawa with their adaptation. Then they finished up Kurosawa's storyline and things quickly devolved into "What? Huh? This is crap!" I was quite disappointed. So I give it 3 out of 5 because the part that adapted Kurosawa's 7 Samurai was truly worth of 5 or even 6 stars if you could rate it that way, but afterwards it was less than a 1 star anime.』
("On the battlefield, there were samurai. On the land, there were peasants.") 『Absolutely, Akira Kurosawa's SEVEN SAMURAI is one of the great films of all time, and, in attempting a remake, one would require a hefty set of stones, as well as ample funding and talent. In 2004, with the approval of Akira Kurosawa's estate, a top notch anime version, SAMURAI 7, was created and debuted on Japanese television. In this DVD box set, we get the entire series, consisting of 26 episodes on 7 discs. SAMURAI 7 takes Akira Kurosawa's original masterpiece and transports it from the 16th century to a war ravaged, sci-fi future setting. However, the tweaked storyline still chronicles the tale of seven samurai who come to the aid of a tormented farming village that has been subjugated by bandits; this time, however, the bandits are the Nobuseri, mechanically-integrated predators who themselves were once samurai.
You don't need to have seen the 1954 film to enjoy SAMURAI 7, though viewers of both will make rapid connections between the two. The makers of this anime did a great job of instilling into their project the same heart and intent of the original SEVEN SAMURAI. This isn't just a meaningless point A to point B anime action flick. Emphasis is thoughtfully placed on character and plot development as we actually get to know the players in this series, from the ragtag samurai, which the last great war has largely reduced to a jobless and purposeless state, to the lowly farmers, who are insular, abhor fighting, and fear the samurai almost as much as the bandits.
Although palpable throughout the series, it's in the samurai's stay at the Kanna village where the distinction between the two social classes become most pronounced as the bushido code clashes with the villager's less "noble" but infinitely more realistic principles. The bridge between the two castes lies in the form of Kikuchiyo, the boorish but exuberant mechanical samurai who used to be a farmer; this was the role originated by the great Toshiro Mifune. Don't get me wrong, this animated Kikuchiyo version doesn't even come close to bringing to the table what Mifune did. It just underscores how bigger than life Mifune made his character that this incarnation actually had to be in a mechanical shell to halfway compete. Honestly, Kikuchiyo here is adequate and, at times, nerve grating.
But there comes a time when plot and character development must give way to serious hind kicking. And, in these moments, the samurai do NOT mess around. The action scenes are astounding! You almost believe a regular-sized guy can take out a mechagiant. These key sequences are significantly emphasized by the blood-pumping score, which uses a healthy dose of Japanese taiko drums. The animation is very, very nice to look at, even if, at times, the CG doesn't quite harmonize with the 2-d animation.
Along with the sci-fi trappings, there are a few other significant changes that were made from Kurosawa's original film. There's a more impactful role played by the love interest Kirara the water priestess, as well as the introduction of her younger sister Komachi, who, along with Kikuchiyo, serves as comedy relief (Kirara and Komachi, by the way, are also Japanese brands of rice). Another change made is that, here, the samurai actually take the battle beyond the village bandits. But, listen, even with the sci-fi elements, the cool animation, the awesome battle scenes, I feel that the best thing about SAMURAI 7 is that it somehow retains the humanity of the original film. This really is anime for grown ups. The ending is still appropriately bittersweet as, ultimately, it's the villagers who win. There will always be harvests and harvest songs for the farmers. The samurai, on the other hand, just drift away. And the samurai leader, Shimada Kambei, who claims to have lost every war he's been in, has just lost another one...』 『The Viridian Collection contains all 7 volumes of the series inspired by Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai.
Samurai 7 is set in a futuristic world that has just seen the end of a massive war, many villages are being terrorized by Nobuseri bandits. The Nobuseri are no normal bandits. They were once men, but during the war they modifed themselves with machines to become living weapons and now apprear as more machine than man. A group of villagers decide to hire samurai to protect their village. These men of valor are as skilled as they are unique.』

The series main couple fourteen year old Renton and at least fifteen year old Eureka(Since her true age isn't really revealed) are also enjoyable to watch especially near the beginning as Renton infatuated with Eureka tries to go out of his way to woo her and win over the three young orphan children who see her as their mother and Renton as a threat. The series doesn't rely to much on the mecha battles as much as the gundam series does and takes a more solid step of the overall story of the series and its morals, which while still somewhat confusing in some areas is much more easier to understand than the series NGE was. The audio voice cast for the English and Japanese crew were incredible for this series but the animation is a more love it or hate it scenario depending on your own personal likes of how characters should be drawn, I myself grew to use to how other animators drew characters for series like Full Metal Panic, Gundam Seed/Destiny, and Full Metal Alchemist. The extras are so so with the standard commentaries and trailers but for the price of these complete sets something to look passed, so if you're a fan of the NGE series are just looking for a good anime series with a pretty good storyline thrown into it here's a great pick to look at for your home anime collection...』
(Why This Is One of My Top Favorite Anime Shows!!) 『This is an awesome collection! I've waited for a few years for them to start releasing this series in complete collections instead of single volumes. This is a great buy and you will not be disappointed!』
(What a build-up... then what a let-down!) 『This DVD boxset contains only the first half of Eureka seveN, but I'll be commenting on the series from start to finish.
For me the series tanked with episode 36 and "Eureka's Bad Make-Up Day" (my title). There were warning signs ahead of this, such as lame dialogue, incoherent plotting, and underwhelming animation. After the scenes with Charles and Ray, I started to get that uh-oh feeling. You know, when disappointments are piling up and ruining what ought to have been one of the best anime in a long, long time. When Coralian antibodies attacked Feres City, I felt a twinge of embarrassment, kind of a "What the hell?" in the pit of my stomach. But I stuck with it, because I had enjoyed the show so much until then.
Granted, there are some memorable moments in later episodes, as when Skurve-scarred Eureka is trying to carry supplies to help refugees from the Coralian antibodies' latest massacre, she collapses, is offered a drink by a traumatized child... who relives the horror when he looks into Eureka's inhuman eyes. But the dramatic moment is mishandled and short-lived. Some heartstrings were plucked, I admit, when Dominic and Anemone finally got it together late in the series. And Renton's self-inflicted wound was a curious development that piqued my interest momentarily.
Why did the creators of this series stop taking their storytelling seriously in the second season? They should have realized that the strength of the show for many viewers was believable characters in far-out situations that made sense nonetheless. NOT having the young couple's names somehow get emblazoned on the moon, NOT one preposterous battle scene after another where nobody who's anybody gets killed or even injured, NOT Norbu's silly backstory, NOT Sakuya giving a "My Book" to Eureka to write her story in, NOT glowing hearts coming out of a Compac Drive and other nuttiness. If you liked those bits, pardon me, but I did NOT.
Two aspects I really enjoyed, more in the earlier episodes: the voice-acting (uniformly superb) and the scoring (y'know, the soundtrack). I'm listening to the BGM right now, and it's got a lot going for it.
THIS JUST IN: While reviewing episode 1, I nearly fell off my chair when I noticed some lip-synching. This is SUPER-RARE in anime... almost never happens! Watch closely when Renton sputters "Eee-to, eee-to" and moments later when he gasps, "Tomurai?!" The animators admirably matched the lips to the voice track. ASTONISHING! 』
(Strong Start with a lackluster finish) 『I know what some, if not most of you, are thinking... 3 STARS? I have seen the entire series, all the way to its conclusion. I decided to write this review to give a little warning about what could have been one of the best anime mecha shows in the last few years.
Now my review of the rest of the series is why I am writing this today. The first "season" of Eureka Seven ( 1-26 ) is an incredible roller coaster ride that will both dazzle you and take you to places you wouldn't have considered before. The second half of the series however is an INCREDIBLE disappointment. What was strong in the first season is weak in the second. Strangely, also some episode budgets must have been cut in the second season as I could see marked difference in quality between episodes. By far some of the worst episodes are in the second half of the show and I cannot begin to tell you how bad they are without possibly spoiling part of the story for you which I am loathe to do. The story potential that was in the first half of Eureka Seven with its mysteries and life lessons are concluded badly and at times forgotten about in the second half, basically meaning the show felt like they were creating the ending as they were releasing episodes. This generally works well in episodic shows but with such buildup, character development, and mystery that was in the first half this does not work here. To be honest if it was not for the first half I doubt I would have been able to finish watching the second, it was that painful to watch at times.
I wrote this review to warn you what will be coming ahead and to say that Eureka Seven is an excellent anime with an unfortunate finish. I am not saying do not watch this show but to just be a little wary of the second half, it could have been so much better. 』
(The summer of love with mechs on surfboards) 『"Eureka Seven" is one of the most breathtaking mecha series, even if robot surfing seems a little too cheesy to take seriously.
The sport in this series is called lifting, a form a airboarding. It's all the rage. The main character of "Eureka Seven," 14-year-old Renton Thurston, is hell-bent on become a great lifter, just like his idol, Holland Novak. But all his plans change when a cute blue-haired girl named Eureka crashes her LFO robot into his home. When enemy LFOs attack her robot, Renton is faced with daunting responsibility of saving the girl he loves.
After the battle in the sky, Renton is greeted by Holland with an offer to come aboard his ship, the Gekkostate. This is an offer that Renton cannot refuse, and the start of his new adventures.
"Eureka Seven" is a beautiful masterpiece of flashing colors, liquid-smooth fighting animation and romance. Although it opens like a simple romance, it develops into a hard-edged drama of humongous proportions. Gekkostate is at war with the United Federation Force over the fate of the world, and the battles are emotionally shattering.
For starters, Eureka is as emotionally detached as the Evangelion character, Rei Ayanami. She hides the crushing emotional guilt of killing innocent people. And as much as Holland hides the truth, Renton is bound to discover that Eureka is an emotionally depressed girl who is definitely out of this world. Literally.
Eureka and Renton express extreme angst throughout the series, but their relationship is very compassionate. There's plenty of sadness in the middle of this volume of the collection. However, the characters' constant struggle to help each other through the most difficult times is incredibly heartwarming.
"Eureka Seven" is a series which I can never stop watching. Even when Holland's defensive hold on Eureka tends to overwhelm Gekkostate, Renton is a remarkable character who truly understands what is best for her.
Although the release of the Complete Collection of Eureka Seven is far overdue, the drama and power of "Eureka Seven" is still unmatched. Get it now, while it's still cheap.』 『Studio: Infinity Resources Inc Release Date: 06/16/2009 Run time: 650 minutes』

Not yet released Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (One of the all time best anime) 『I watched this whole series in a version subtitled so badly that I found even my very rudimentary Japanese was helpful (I'm talking almost Backstroke of the West here ...) but the series is just so superb that it was brilliant anyway.
This would be Oscar bait if it were live-action. Tense psychological thriller with brilliant characterisation and beautiful animation. And one of the scariest villains ever ... but also some very bad characters who yet show genuine repentance ... and some pretty ambiguous "good" characters, come to that.
As with all the best things of this kind, although there is on-screen violence, the real frights are just left to the imagination - but the imagination is given plenty to work with. Hitchcock level.
I thought this would never see a proper release in the West: roll on the rest of this long but never dull and never too long series.
This is one of the very best anime series there is. If you are fed up with friends who think anime is all either Miyazaki or kids' stuff (or hentai) this is a very good way to show them otherwise.』
(Finally!!) 『Sorry in advance, this is going to be a bit of a long and rambling review. Skip it if you don't want to read.
OK, I won't go over again how great this series is, since so many others have already done so and better than I can. I just want to say to Viz- please complete this series! Fans of Monster (including me) have been waiting FOREVER for this and frankly, I don't really care how bad the dub is as long as I can buy US licensed dvds of this show. That said, after catching a few of the episodes on Syfy (what an idiotic name change- but that's another issue!) I didn't think the dub was that bad. It sounds fine to me so far. Another reviewer said that "where characters appear menacing or calculating in the original language, the English dub can, at times, make them appear almost laughable.." OK, I don't quite understand this in relation to Monster- maybe this person hasn't heard the dub yet (and only the first 4 eps have been aired on TV so far, and these dvds won't be out until December)- but the voices seemed OK to me in the few epsiodes I have watched so far. I think this is a general complaint about English dubs in general (and it's often true) rather than specifically about Monster.
Tenma sounds young and naive (as he's supposed to be in the beginning of the series), Lunge sounds ice-cool and controlled (again, that matches his character), and Johan has a soft, creepy, feminine-sounding voice (which he had in the original series) so I think this dub will be reasonably good. Not perfect, by any means, but better than most. I am just happy to get a dub at all and if I hate it that much, I can always switch to Japanese with English subs. Considering how often the industry churns out these dvds, and having a limited number of anime voice actors to choose from, I think these companies do a reasonable job with the dubs with the resources they have.
This reviewer has a point, there are quite a few REALLY BAD dubs, but again, you don't have to listen to them. The important thing for me is to be able to get R1 dvds at all. And I like having the dub in English so I don't have to always read subtitles. Anyone remember the English dub for Voltron in the 80's? Now THAT was horrendous. And yet I bought all those dvds and Voltron still holds a special place in my heart even now! Although that just might be for nostalgia reasons. ;)
Just think about how far English dubs have come since then, and be grateful. In many other countries outside Japan, they never get a dub at all.
Oh and by the way, someone said these sets have only 13 eps each, I believe this set is 15 episodes. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that would make around 5 sets total for all 74 episodes. At the Amazon price of $32.99 (with no tax and free shipping) and that's only about $165 total. If you buy each set as it comes out, assuming they release one every 2-3 months, that's really not a bad price for such a long series. This is the same company that originally released Inuyasha in single DVDs with 2-3 episodes at $20 apiece, so it could be much worse. I'm relieved this series won't be getting the disc-at-a-time treatment. The anime companies finally seem to be learning that fans want more for their money without having to buy a million discs at inflated prices (remember Geneon?)
I preordered this set the second I heard about it being available, and I will be doing the same for the entire series. If you like quality, good characters, a tense, riveting story, and actual intelligence in your anime, you should give Monster a try. There is a lot of critical acclaim for Monster and it is widely considered a "masterpiece" by fans, that's not by accident. It is one of those few anime that actually measures up to the greatness of its original manga.
It's about freaking time this series came to DVD.』
(Finally in the US, hurt by Viz) 『Naoki Urasawa's psychological crime drama MONSTER is, as the other reviewers have said, undeniably one of the most accomplished anime series of all time. It is a near shot-for-shot adaptation of Urasawa's manga, and it is a testament to the strength of the story that almost nothing was changed. It seems almost too good to be true that this series is finally seeing a release in the United States.
Speaking of that, you can currently catch two episodes every Monday night on SyFy's Ani-Monday block. They are airing the English dub.
The story takes place in 1986 Germany. True to the times, the plot is rife with political drama; true to Urasawa, though, you will find a slowly arching, psychological thriller emerge in this gem of a story. Tenma, a Japanese doctor working in Dusseldorf, decides to go against the orders of his hospital's director by operating on an injured child instead of the rich Mayor. Demoted, he loses his fiance and his position in the hospital. In one of the best twists to come out of any fiction recently, the child he saved ends up being a manipulative psychopath, bred by others to be a successor to Hitler. The series begs the question, what do you do when your altruistic intent turns into something wholly horrible? Tenma sets out on a quest to fix his mistake, and the plot slowly unravels along with the mysterious past of Johan Leibert, the monster he brought back to life.
Now, the pros versus the cons. Anything good that can be said about this release is said about the show itself. Before I watched the show, the premise itself was enough to make me sit back for a few minutes and wonder what I might be getting myself into. There was no question in my mind that I would have to watch. And it excels in areas where few anime excel. Perhaps it is the intrinsic advantage that an animated work can sometimes have over a live-action one, but the directing of this series is stellar. As I mentioned, it follows the cinematic scenes and pacing of the manga so closely that it is represented like a film from a master director. Urasawa has a lot to be proud of in his creation, and in this adaptation.
There are bad things about this release, however. The series is 74 episodes long, and these 13-episode DVD releases by VIZ are simply too small. There is no reason to divide so few episodes on so many discs. A 24 episode episode set, even a 16 episode set, would be infinitely better not just for ease of consumption but for the wallets of consumers, too. At the Amazon pre-order price of $32.99 for all 6 anticipated DVD sets, this series will end up costing almost $200, around $2.70 an episode. Still, this is a small complaint when weighed next to the worth of the series, I suppose. The only other nitpick is the quality of the dub. Where characters appear menacing or calculating in the original language, the English dub can, at times, make them appear almost laughable. We have seen, especially recently, that dubs can be done right, though with this series the massive cast of characters and sweep of location can possibly make that difficult.
In short--this series is worth watching. These DVD sets may get expensive over time, but luckily the show is also airing on SyFy for those strapped for cash. Get a taste of it one Monday night and you will undoubtedly anticipate the next episode. This is a great series, not to be missed.』
(Tight, Complex Psychological Drama) 『Monster is simply one of the best psychological dramas around, in any visual format. Forget merely being one of the best animes, this would more than hold its own as an HBO series. The storyline is deep and involving, with flawed, wonderful characters, and twists you will never see coming. Sometimes the plot seems to veer off in odd directions, but hang on tight, it's coming back to tie itself together in endlessly surprising ways. Throughout, it keeps subverting the expectations, and in the end, the question is not so easy to answer - who really is the Monster?
I've heard some people say the start feels a little slow (though it didn't seem that way to me), but it's well worth sticking with it.』
(Monster-the best anime I have ever seen) 『Monster is one of those animes that is so good that it's hard to put in to words. It's also one of those animes that no one has ever heard off. Simply put Monster is one of the best developed shows ever made. It is one of those pieces of art that is simply irresistible. The story is about a ingenious brain surgeon who just doing his job but awakened a monster. This monster then goes off to wreck havoc by only using his brilliant mind. The doctor must now do what's right and stop the Monster that he as awaken. Basically if you love anime and great shows in general than you have to pick up Monster. You won't regret it.』

Spiner is allowed to come back to school and makes a new friend Darcy, Manning acting career is ruined and Peter does something bad to ruin her reputation, Jimmy tries to get back into basketball, Elie becomes the new drummer for downtown sasquatch and Later Elie gets closer to Jimmy, Mr. Simpson cheats on his wife Spike. Jay and Silent Bob make two more apperances J.T gets Liberty pregant and gets a job to support them, Later J.T even overdoses on prescription medicene. Jay and Alex gets starring credit, so does newcomer Peter and Mrs. Hatzilakos. Alex, Elie, Marco, Paige, Hazel and Craig graduate at the end of the season and Ashley returns at the end of the season』
(drama, drama, drama!) 『In my opinion, this is the best (and most dramatic) season of Degrassi yet, filled with everything you can possibly think of that a teenager might experience during their high school years. (I was a senior in high school when this season originally premiered so I know what I'm talking about!)
Season 5 starts off with the introduction of newcomer Peter (the principals son by the way) whom Emma has a desperate crush on, only to later find out that he wants Manny, her best friend. Manny is desperate to pursue a career in acting, and, after getting some pretty harsh criticism from a casting agent, decides to go so far as to get plastic surgery, much to the dismay of her very strict father, who refuses to let her become an actress and throws her out of the house after calling her a slut. A very upset Manny then goes to a party that Peter invited her to, gets drunk, and allows Peter to film her taking her top off. Manny begs Peter to delete the footage, but when she calls him a freak and refuses to date him, he emails the video to everyone at school, angering not only Emma, who is horrified that Manny did such a thing with the guy she likes, but also Paige who is disgusted by Mannys behavior and immediately throws her off the squad. A distraught Manny begs Emma for forgiveness, and ends up moving in with her. She also begins dating Craig again, who is on his way to becoming a serious musician.
Now onto the other characters.
Liberty reveals to JT that she is pregnant, and they both eventually agree to keep the baby, and plan on moving out together. In order to move out, JT picks up more shifts at the Pharmacy he works at, but when he realizes that he won't be able to support Liberty and the baby with the amount of money he's making, he begins dealing drugs and when Liberty finds out what's he's been up to, she breaks up with him. Around that time, Libertys parents urge her to give the baby up for adoption once its born, and she agrees. Devastated by the news and by the break-up, JT overdoses on painkillers and lands in the hospital.
Meanwhile a friendless Spinner, who is still dealing with his guilt over the shooting (from season 4) meets good girl Darcy, who is part of friendship club, and after they start dating, Spinner vows to become a born again virgin (yeah right!)
Paige, who is stressing over getting into the college of her dreams, and is still dealing with her breakup with Matt, begins experimenting with her sexuality and is soon dating bad girl Alex.
Jimmy is dealing with being crippled and is trying to find out who he is when he realizes that he's no longer the basketball star he once was.
Emma begins to develop feelings for Peter yet again, who feels the same way about her, but is desperate to keep her feelings a secret from a still-very-angry-at-Peter Manny. During a school play, Emma and Peter sneak off for a makeout session...only to find her stepfather (aka Snake) and the school principal (aka Peters mom) kissing. A devastated Emma tells her mom, who kicks Snake out of the house, thus leading to Emmas bout with Anorexia. During this time, Manny becomes angry with Emmas change in behavior, which angers Emma, who eventually confesses that she's been dating Peter. All of this leads to Emma having a serious panick attack, which lands her in the hospital.
....etc. I guess now you get the point when I say its a very dramatic =) and definitely a must see!』
(very good EY) 『this is just one of those shows that is great to watch marathon-style on a rainy day. It takes you back to highschool with all the catty stuff that goes on. As a girl, there were times i totally got into it and other times i made fun of it, because as an adult i know how stupid some of the stuff kids say really is. But its one of those things you have in the back of the closet and watch when no one else is around...kinda like guys and porn.』
(Season 5) 『Even better and juicier than Season 3. Season 5 has a lot going on. If you are a Degrassi: The Next Generation fan, I highly recommend season 5.』
(Teen Angst Melodrama Cheese!) 『I love the cheesy escapism of this Canadian teen soap, in which every episode is A Very Special Episode. Watch Manny pursue acting, Emma struggle with anorexia, Liberty and J.T. deal with possible parenthood, Craig make it big in music, Spinner try to redeem himself, Jimmy struggle with his identity post-parapalegia, Paige explore a different aspect of her sexuality, and Marco come out to his Dad. And more. The stories seem a little better fleshed out this season, perhaps because of the back work done in season 4. In addition, the writing seems snappier and funnier, but I could have just been tired from being up all night with the baby;) Pure escapist fun. A guilty pleasure for those of us far past our high school days.』 『In case you thought that Degrassi High couldn't get any more intense…think again. This season, the challenges get harder, the lessons get tougher and the path to self-discovery becomes more dangerous than ever. Emma goes to exremes to lose weight. Manny makes a decision that tarnishes her reputation. Paige questions her sexuality. Relationships will begin or rekindle...and some couples were meet their bitter end.

Fullscreen picture (unlike the usual widescreen format of other anime dvds)

The 6 disks are NOT numbered, but you can sortof tell by the positioning of the disks in the box. There is also a tital on each disk to give you a rough idea of what's on it.
The story has a pretty good conclusion (for season 1) it doesn't leave on a cliffhanger.. although there is more to the story and it shows that.』
(A good series, for a good price.) 『...Although when I bought it, the price was much higher.
To tell the truth, almost eighty percent of my admiration for the Rurouni Kenshin anime centers on season two. But season one is a fun series of episodic adventures that adequately introduces the characters and themes that the second season's epic story arc centers on, and watching it will help you appreciate that second season all the more.
My biggest complaint with this season is that the artwork and animation tends to be somewhat lackluster, especially early on, which is a shame when you consider that one of the highest points to the source manga is its fantastic artwork.
That said, many of the story arcs that appear in the manga have their events and even character motivations greatly altered for the anime, something that may be consider either a positive or a negative. While in some cases I consider the manga rendition more pleasantly down-to-earth, the anime holds its own in the storytelling department and offers a refreshing alternative take on the stories that keeps reading the manga *and* watching the anime from being terribly redundant. Of particular note are the first episode and the late-season Raijuta story-arc, both of which are almost completely different from the manga originals.
There are also a fair number of extra filler episodes, most of which occurs in the time between the "Megumi" story arc and the "Raijuta" story arc. They're fun episodes and give a little character development to some of the supporting cast, but don't really lend much to overall theme or plot.
While nowhere near the best anime out there, season one of Rurouni Kenshin is a charming and entertaining choice. It was an especially nostalgic experience for me, as I remember watching this show back when it showed on Toonami (you know, when Cartoon Network was actually decent). I recommend it to any anime fan who doesn't have a better anime series to blow money on at the moment.
A few gripes, though. First off, there's no indication on the disc labels as to what order they should be viewed in--no numbers, just the titles of the individual DVD releases the collection contains. This shouldn't be a problem unless you're stupid enough to take more than one disc out of the case at once for no reason at all. Also, I found it jarring how they just stopped using the English versions of the opening and closing songs for no discernible reason about three-quarters through the season, reverting to subtitled versions of the original Japanese songs. It's a shame, 'cause I think the English versions actually sound better--but that's just me.』
(Only a collection of DVDs) 『I purchased the box set of Wandering Samurai because I have always enjoyed the series and this was a good price. I think I was expecting the usual type of box set packaging, with a booklet that listed episodes and numbered discs, this is not what I got. This box contains all of the discs for Season One, there are 6. Basically they are the same discs that you get if you buy them individually. The discs are titled, but not numbered, and there are no inserts in the packaging to tell you which order you should watch them in. I ended up putting them in my player in an order that I guessed at, then had to check the episode numbers on the main menu to see if I was right. The show itself of course is wonderful. The historical details are one of the aspects of the show that I find so intriguing. The turmoil and confusion between the ideals of a new nation and the practice of it are a really great backdrop for the series. The characters in the series are well developed. Some of the episodes are a little goofy, but loveable. One thing I like about the first season is that it prepares you well, without you even realizing it, to enter into the much more serious Kyoto arc. So - I love the series, I just wish that the box set was packaged in a more intellegent way.』
(Thanks~) 『Everything was nice&new and the quality of the video is great, thanks for the blast from the past』
(The best anime series) 『I've seen over ten anime series now, and Kenshin stands out as the best. The characters are great and complex and the story is enjoyable and interesting. I would recommend this to any anime fan.』

(Pokemon: Indigo League - Season 1, Part 2) 『Pokemon: Indigo League - Season 1, Part 2 If you (like my ten-year-old son and I) are a fan of Pokemon - the card game, the video games or any of the movies- you'll want to get this DVD. This three-disc set is the second of three in the boxed sets of the collected Indigo League series, the entire first year that the show was aired on television. See why James is such a dweeb- find out how Ash got his Thunder Badge- discover the secret of the Haunted Tower! All of this and more!』
(<3<3) 『I love pokemon and my only complaint is this took too long to come out!』
(The second set of episodes from the Indigo League) 『This box set contains episodes twenty-seven through fifty-two of the Pokemon anime series, which is spread out over three DVDs (the first two discs have nine episodes, while the third disc contains eight episodes). There is only one extra included on each disc (the full-length "Pokerap").
Just like with the first box, it's obvious that Viz Media put this set together "on the cheap." However, if you're a fan of Pokemon, you'll want to pick this up in order to have all the episodes on DVD. In this set, Brock gets his Vulpix; Ash says goodbye to Primeape; Ash earns the Soul badge; Ash almost says goodbye to Pikachu; Ash and his friends encounter the prehistoric Pokemon; we learn more about James' past; Ash and his friends meet a photographer named Snap, who travels with them for a few episodes; Ash tries to take the Pokemon League exam; and we are first introduced to Butch and Cassidy, two other members of Team Rocket.
This set can actually be acquired for a decent price, considering what you get in the set. If you're a Pokeman fan, you have to purchase this set in order to continue following Ash on his Pokemon journey.』
(Good for nostalgia, but that's about it.) 『I enjoyed watching Pokemon when I was growing up, and so when they released the box set I had to get it. Unfortunately, Viz Media doesn't quite live up to the anime DVD standards set by other companies. The overall lack of quality was really disappointing.
- The cases themselves feel really flimsy and weak. My first thought when I touched them was "bootleg." The box art is colorful but really kind of plain. It just didn't look as polished and professional as other anime DVDs, which was shocking since I dare say Pokemon is probably one of the most popular (or at least well-known) anime series of all time. Furthermore, there are no included inserts: just an episode list that looks exactly the same as the one on the back covers of each DVD. (I wonder why they even bothered?)
- DVD menus are colorful, albeit very plain and minimalistic (only options are "play" and "episodes"). No Japanese track, and no subtitles. No extras either. You get the dubbed episodes plus the full Pokerap (which isn't a menu option, so you have to skip to it).
- Several episodes are skipped: "The Legend of Miniryuu [Dratini]," "Electric Soldier Porygon," "Princess versus Princess," and "The Purr-fect Hero." The first two episodes were never, as far as I can tell, broadcast on American television (the Porygon episode in particular has never been seen outside of its initial run in Japan, due to the seizure incident). The last two episodes WERE broadcast on American television, but are not included here; they are in the third box set. This doesn't mess up the chronology of things too much since Pokemon is a fairly episodic series, but sometimes weird "holes" pop up (like how Ash inexplicably has a bunch of Tauros that he caught in the Dratini episode, which we never got to see).
- These videos aren't uncut and uncensored, like what you'd find with most typical anime. That's fine with me, since it's not like 4Kids censored or cut a whole lot of stuff from these episodes anyway, but it's still worth noting here. Digital paint is out in full force, mostly just to cover up Japanese text that was present in the original. If you didn't care when you first saw these episodes on TV, you won't care now.
- The video and audio quality are beautiful, and exactly what I had hoped for. Certain scenes might seem kind of "glitchy," but that's because the original animators went back and slowed down the framerate and muted the colors because of the infamous seizure incident. Those scenes really stick out and look funky and ridiculous, but that's not Viz's (or 4Kid's) problem.
Even though I love these episodes, I cannot in good conscience give this collection higher than three stars, an "average" rating: these DVDs contain only the bare minimum to be considered a "collector's box set." Poor production values, combined with zero extras and several missing episodes, hold this back from being really exceptional. If they threw in the Japanese track, a handful of extras, and stronger DVD cases, then we'll talk. As it stands, these are only slightly better than my old VHS recordings of the show, and those tapes didn't cost me $22.』 『Join Ash, Brock and Misty on their continuing quest to collect Pokémon, make friends, and battle their way to the Indigo League! This Part 2 Season 1 box set includes 26 episodes of Pokémon fun and adventure!』 『As the first season of the runaway hit fantasyPokémonconcludes, Ash, Misty, and Brock continue their journey to the Pokémon League, a journey that was the focus of the original Red and Blue versions of the game. Most of the episodes follow a set pattern: Ash and his companions encounter a trainer with a new type of Pokémon; the initial friction between them disappears when they ally to combat the comic villainy ofTeam Rocket. At the end of each episode, the trio walks into the sunset, having made a new friend. Ash makes little progress in his quest to become a Pokémon Master, except in episode 31, when he wins the Soul Badge (the sixth of the required eight) at the Fuchsia City Gym. But each program offersa lesson that emphasizes friendship, perseverance, good sportsmanship, and/or ecological awareness. In episode 36, Ash tries to get Pikachu to stay with the wild members of his species, but their emotional bond proves too strong. The trio wins the respect of a punk cycle gang when they ride 10 miles in the rain to take medicine to a sick Pokémon. This Part 3 Season 1 box set includes 26 episodes of Pokémon fun and adventure!』 『As the first season ofPokémonconcludes, Ash Ketcham and his friends Misty and Brock stop in some curious places en route to Indigo Stadium for the Pokémon League Tournament: Santa Claus' workshop, a movie set, a surfing beach, the ruined city of Pokémopolis, and Hollywood. The problem is that Ash should be training for his League matches, instead of allowing himself to be distracted. He hasn't been working as hard as he should, and his Charizard won't obey him most of the time. But Ash remains supremely self-confident, pointing out that he's made it to the Tournament, the Pokémon Trainer's equivalent of the Olympics. During his first matches, Misty and Brock coach from the sidelines--when Brock isn't chasing every pretty girl in sight. Professor Oak offers additional counseling from Pallet Town, and sends Ash the exotic Pokémon he needs. Gary, Prof. Oak's cocky grandson, is defeated early in the Tournament, and takes it badly. Team Rocket's comic villainy produces the usual disastrous results--until Jessie and James discover they're actually good at selling souvenirs and fast food. Meowth is appalled at the prospect of their going straight. Ash gains a real friend in fellow-trainer Richie. Although they eventually lose their matches, Ash and Richie learn to accept defeat gracefully, and they agree to redouble their efforts to become great Pokémon trainers. Those aren't bad messages for a children's show. (Rated A, all ages: cartoon violence)--Charles Solomon』
