(It's okay, not too good.)
(Great review only lacks balance)
(The Official Review of the 2008 FIA Formula One Championship)
(Lewis Triumphs Over All!) I've been watching Formula 1 for 25 years, and the 2008 season was undoubtedly one of the most exciting I have ever seen. However, some folk here seem to have lost sight of the quality of the racing, and instead have got themselves all bent out of shape over the quality of this review DVD.
In my opinion, much of the criticism is overstated. The 2008 season review DVD is eminently watchable, despite some artifacts and ghosting on some of the race footage. How serious and prevelant is it? Not very. Should one expect a professionally produced DVD costing about $30.00 to be nigh on perfect? Absolutely. It is frustrating that this one is not quite there in terms of video quality? Only if you let it become so.
I wonder if the reviewers upset with the video quality are too young to remember what it was like to use VCR's. Those of us who struggled with videotape degredation, and the vagaries of using such a cumbersome system, still marvel at the convenience and overall reliability of DVD, and are perhaps a little more forgiving of the occasional artifact, etc.
The 2008 F1 season was incredible, and pretty much went down to the last corner of the last race. For those of you thinking about picking up this DVD, don't listen to the naysayers suggesting you save your money and pass it by. You can buy with confidence, safe in the knowledge that you will enjoy some incredible footage of a truly fantastic year of Formula 1 motor racing. As you know, this 2008 Formula One season is a very breathtaking and exciting. But, this video is only so-so. It has some quality issues. The visual effect is kind of blur. When I watch this video on a 50" TV, it is kind of unclear. So, overall, I am a bit disappointed this year. Hopefully, next year will be better.
I would rate this disc set miles above the disaster of the '06 season review, and on par or better than last year's '07 review. I'm so glad they started putting this on two discs.
Would've given it five stars, but they're a bit too much over the top with Hamilton. Despite his moment in the limelight, I think most long time followers of F1 will almost cringe at some of the "gushing" presented here.
A great recount of an exciting season . . . that would've been a home run with more editorial balance. The DVD has a spot on it where there is poor quality throughout the entire DVD. This is a problem on all DVDs, not just mine, based on other's reviews. There is a fluttering of sort that distorts the picture. I am very surprised that Formula 1 did not catch this problem during production. An excellent recap of a thrilling F1 season! After eighteen races, to have a World Championship decided by a single point! Seven different race winners, including first ever wins by Kubica and Vettel! Season long battle between Massa and Hamilton (and ocasionally Raikkonen) for the ultimate prize! The resurgence of Fernando Alonso! Compelling special features! This is a must-have for the F1 fan! Official season review DVD that covers every event and highlights from each round of the Formula 1 series. All the top drivers, teams and much more. An up-close and exciting review of the 2008 Formula One season, including all of the latest news and footage not seen on TV. Louis Hamilton, Felipe Massa, Fernando Alonso, and the rest of the drivers and teams from the worlds most popular motor racing series battle it out in races from Australia to Brazil, including F1s first ever night time race on the streets of Singapore. (A classic and epic season!)
(Great DVD for 2007 Season Review)
(One of the most exciting seasons!)
(Class publication for the best in the worls of motor sport) I love F1 needless to say. This is a must have for every F1 fan. It is also a good record material. Captures all the important moments and facts.
Exhilarating I must say. This I think is the best F1 DVD in history! Every race is detailed with information including all the dramas of the season. The greatest thing about this DVD is Kimi being the WDC! woot woot! Every F1 fan has to have this copy! Being a fan of Formula 1 and living in the US where it is really hard to find F1 related things, it is nice that Amazon carries these DVD's. I really like the quality and contents of this DVD. To be able to rewatch the season when Kimi wins the Driver's Championship for the first time is really nice as well. I look forward to the 2008 Season DVD. Spy saga, rookie sensation, Shumacher-less, betrayal, and a new king crowned. That is the story of the 2007 Formula 1 season. This dvd packs it all in. The 2007 review comes on 2 disc, with the season on one and extras on another. This is fantastic as the quality is much improved over previous years where they compressed it all on one disc. Much more enjoyable.
In 2007, Fernando Alonso switched over to Mclaren after winning back to back titles with Renault, and Kimi Raikkonen replaced Shumacher at Ferrari. The Mclaren car seemed to be the one to beat that year, and with Fernando helping to develop it, it seemed like a potent unbeatable combination.
Then Lewis Hamilton burst onto the scene. With the first few races in, everyone took notice. This guy was greatness in the making and actually had the tenacity to fight a double world champion in his own team in his rookie year. Fernando became bitter, and demanded priority, and when he didn't get it, turned his back on Mercedes. The spy scandal was already in motion at this point, but a bitter Fernando helped push it further (as media reports).
In the end....Mclaren were fined $100 million and stripped of all constructors points. Lewis Hamilton had the championship in the bag with a nice lead going into the last 2 races, but made rookie mistakes which cost him the title. In the end...the Iceman attacked silently and won the championship BY ONE POINT in the final race.
This season had it all, and this dvd retells the tale perfectly. If you did not see the 2007 season, and watching this for the first time, do a little background search on the season to get further in depth detail about the scandal that year. A must for any F1 fan! Easy to read and can be used as a reference for this year in Formula One. If new to the sport it can give you leads for further reading or research. If a long time fan it puts the year in your hands and then on your bookshelf. Intrigue, intense rivalry and good old fashioned racing were at the heart of the 2007 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP.Live the highs and the lows of one of the most closely fought seasons ever. Witness the action as 22 cars battle it out in one of the world's most thrilling sports and for the first time in 21 years, feel the tension build into a three-way championship decider at final round in Brazil. Watch an exclusive interview with man of the moment, Lewis Hamilton. See Ron Dennis describe their now legendary first meeting and let the legend in the making show you how he seized pole position in Silverstone Get Flavio Briatore's personal thoughts on the state of FORMULA ONE today, and in the future. Hear Coulthard and Webber's view of the controversies of the season and endure exactly what Mark suffered in Japan. Experience one of the most sensational seasons through unseen footage, unique on board camera angles, brand new features and behind the scenes interviews. 225 minutes packed with excitement and interviews. ...it's the closest you'll get without a paddock pass. (great season, cheap DVD)
(Presenting the DVD that brought dvds back to the stone age!)
(Excellent Summary)
(They did it again.) Overall, this is a good DVD. The pros and cons of it are as follows:
Pros - Good quality - Interesting footage on technical side of the sport - Great bonus material
Cons - DVD is not available in HD - It could show more behind-the-scenes footage - The bonus material about Schumacher should be longer and more detailed
All in all, this is a must buy DVD for F1 fans since the 2006 season represents the end of an era: Michael Schumacher's dominance! Not only did the video quality take a dive, but the sound is horrible compared to the 03,04, and 2005 DVD reviews. On the previous discs, on my home theater, the cars really sounded impressive and almost violent. Just as they do when you see them in person. They blanked out all the audio on the pit stop launches in favor of the narrator's voice. ANNOYING. The cars really sound almost puny and nasally on this DVD. Not really what you expect from the world's most expensive sport. On a lighter note Alonso's performance this season is exceptional, and fun to watch. Still worth watching. I did notice that this year's disc is no longer produced by "WhitestarDVD," the label that appeared on the 03-05 reviews.
This is called a DVD. It looks like a DVD when you open its case. It looks like a DVD when you place it into your DVD Player. That's where it ends though. You've been robbed. This is what a DVD becomes when a multi million dollar corperation seeks to make just a little bit more money from its fans and in the process sells out its own soul. Stop compressing the video to the point of destruction and just make 2 discs! PLEASE, PLEASE! This DVD has by far, (so far it's not even funny)THE worst picture quality I have ever seen in something trying to pass itself off as a DVD. How about this F1, just release vhs tapes from now on. Please stop embarrassing yourselves and torturing your audience with half hearted and cruel releases such as this. Your F1! You take our millions of dollars and give us back excrement. Every year you feed us this mediocre garbage the closer we get to giving up on you. There are other sports out there you know. Learn from NFL Films, PLEASE! These should be historic records of the most advanced form of motor racing on earth, not something resembling some idiot with a cam corder taping a country drag race on beta max. When I press PAUSE watching this it looks like Surrealist Art. Yeah, I just saw the blue blur pass the red blur! Isn't that an exceptionally beautiful and well engineered blur? I want to see the Formula One car's suspension and aerodynamics when I press pause but I get to see a multi colored blur that I THINK is a... car? Yeah a car. Give us a break! You could do so much for F1's image and popularity with quality DVD reviews that contained, 2, YES 2 Disc DVD reviews. What a concept! I've been a diehard F1 nut for over a decade now and I thought by now you would've adapted with the times. We have what they call High Definition now. Have you heard of it? Stop compressing the video and stop giving your loyal fans the shaft! Charge 30 to 40 bucks for a 2 disc DVD set with sharp picture quality and watch them sell out. We'd buy them! I know I would. All F1 fans want it and you better start listening cause it's been 2 years of compressed and pixelated garbage. If you only got it. Well, you've lost this and many customers because for years now your DVDs have been laughable. To anyone interested, this trash isn't even worth a rental. 2000, 2003, 2004 F1 Reviews are great and show what the DVD was made for. The 2005 and 2006 Reviews are horrible unless you like to see what damaged vision looks like. It's like a fine novel with a great story, only the pages have been dipped in water and the ink has run all over. We hope you enjoy the book! Don't waste your time or money. Get an older review if you want to enjoy some F1 action. 2 disc DVD sets are the answer to all our prayers F1. Do it or lose it! If 2007 is the same I'm starting a boycott. Having shared the '06 season on Speed with the unfailingly excellent and well informed Bob, Dave, Steve and Peter, this DVD neatly compresses and records Schumacher's final season. F1 attracts TV audience figures that can only make NASCAR weep - but then F1 is about supreme technical excellence and driver skill on circuits all around the world and this DVD captures the excitement, variety and exotic nature of a true world championship. Worth listening to the drivers as they talk you through a pole lap - Kimi is an angel in a car, less so when it comes to talking and interpreting the experience! This DVD is a must for hardened fans and those coming to F1 for the first time.
2006 FIA Formula One / F1 / Formula 1 Championship Review At least this year, they used a DVD9 instead of DVD5. That said, the image quality on this DVD is worse than the broadcast you watched on TV. 220+ minutes on one DVD. If they went to two DVDs, this would be the kind of thing you'd want for the rest of your life. You can do better D/Ling the individual races.
Picture quality trumps content. Rent it. In 55 years, only seven men have won back to back World Championships. 2006 changed all that. Fernando Alonso became the eighth member of the elite group and the youngest. The season kicked off with new drivers, new teams and a brand new knockout format for qualifying. RENAULT picked up where they left off with six wings out of eight. By Canada, they looked to have it in the bag, but the might of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari should never be discounted. USA was the turning point, with everything falling in FERRARI’S favor. After China, the frontrunners were equal on points, but Michael had the advantage with one more win under his belt. The battle for both titles would be won and lost in the last two races. Watch Button¹s fiery exit in Australia and his blaze of glory in Hungary. Ride on board with Liuzzi as Räikkönen drives over him! Feel the emotion as Massa wins in Brazil and Michael Schumacher bows out of FORMULA ONE, after a charge through the field. Michael at his best. Get to the heart of this sensational sport with original interviews and never seen before footage as Fernando does it once again! (DVD was much better than expected)
(a cheap release from the richest motorsport in the world!)
(Not perfect, but a solid review)
(Yet another mixed bag) At the moment this is my favorite F1 DVD to watch, mostly because at this point it has the best balance of good content and good video quality. I like the in-car footage of qualifying, although as in the 2004 dvd you have to go to the individual race menu for each event to see it. It's funny how in most of these they have a driver of the same nationality present a qualifying lap for each track.
Overall this DVD is excellent. The video compression seems only applied to the qualifying laps, so the rest of the footage doesn't appear to show any problems with quality. Also, for some reason the in-car footage is more exciting on this volume, especially on tracks like Spa or Nurburgring which have lots of elevation changes, or just because you aren't seeing all pole laps so you hear the drivers describe whatever mistakes happen and how much time it might have cost them.
These Championship Reviews are great to have if you have any interest in Formula 1. The footage is exciting and the scenery is beautiful as well. This is also the year that Ralph hit the wall at Indy for the second year in a row (this time he walked away, thankfully), prompting the controversial Michelin incident that resulted in a mere six-car race. My family and I are Indy 500 regulars who will be attending the U.S. Grand Prix for the first time in July, 2006. Since Formula One races are not carried on any of the channels in our cable package, we needed a way to educate ourselves about what's been going on in F1 lately (who is Alonso?). The 2005 F1 World Championship Review DVD seemed perfect for this purpose, and I decided to purchase a copy. However, after I read the reviews of the DVD on Amazon.com, I got the impression that it would be of low quality, so I decided not to buy it. A couple weeks later, I changed my mind and decided to go ahead and buy it anyway. I am now very glad I did - the DVD turned out to be terrific! It performs perfectly on our DVD player and TV, and the sound and picture are excellent. The race coverage is everything I had hoped it would be, and the DVD also includes in-car footage for each track, including Indianapolis. This DVD far exceeded my expectations, and I highly recommend it. A great season in F1 only to be spoiled by this vhs like DVD release. The picture quality absolutely ruins the viewing experience! Pixels everywhere! Anything that moves on the screen just blurs up. It's hard enough to get a good look at these beautiful F1 machines up close, that's the beauty of pausing a DVD player to capture a true sharp digital image, but here you might as well get all those vhs tapes out of the garbage cause blurry and ragged is the new F1 way it seems. Why spend so much money on a sport only to release a review that shows none of it? 5 star show with 0 star picture quality. Hey F1, this isn't 1982 with Keke winning the championship! Next year better be better or you've lost my twenty bucks. Documenting in satisfactory detail the news, events and people of the 2005 FIA Formula One World Championship, this DVD is a must-have for any F1 aficionado. Round-by-round coverage of each race (usually between 10-15 minutes on each) combined with mini features on drivers, teams and new circuits are some of the many strengths of this DVD. Unfortunately, while the DVD takes a step forward in many areas over previous incarnations, it also has some areas that prevent it from being perfect. The race-by-race coverage is very solid and the DVD does a good job covering the top highlights from qualifying and the race. It also does a decent job covering the BAR fuel tank scandal, the F1 U.S. Grand Prix debacle and F1's first race in Turkey. My favorite new addition to the DVD has to be the driver-narrated in-car laps that are featured for every race. It adds a nice dimension to the DVD and you get to see and hear the drivers from a more personal perspective, adding a side of humanity that is often buried behind the helmet and the names. Also, unlike previous versions, when you go to the race-by-race menu and choose a race, the DVD will not go back to the race-by-race menu once that particular race is over. Instead, it will move on to next race in continous fashion. And it is for these reasons that I would recommend this DVD to any F1 or racing fan. However, there are some features of this DVD that hurt it. First, the picture quality doesn't seem as good as previous reviews. There is a lot of pixelation at various times throughout the review (usually on in-car cameras) and, while not horrible, it does sour the experience, a little. Second, it's a shame they had to sacrifice the in-car pole position laps (as seen on the 2004 DVD) for driver commentary laps. Why couldn't they put both in? While there are some shortcomings, it is still a strong and comprehensive review and I would recommend it to any F1 fan. Pro: 220 minutes to cover nineteen races. Nice to get the in-car for qualifying. Nice insight into the races, particularly the US GP and the Michelin-farce.
Con: This DVD, without a doubt, has the worst image quality I've seen on any F1 annual DVD. Including the first one. A LOT of MPG compression and pixelation. It's even pixelated on the menus. Check out the first lap at Spa for a good representation. A cloud of MPG noise is in front of Montoya's car. The TV broadcasts looked better...and I'm stuck with DirectTV, which is saying something. I'm sure that there's lots I've missed- I've only watched about 20 minutes.
For those in the know, I did a service-mode convergence adjustment on my TV two days ago. And my DVD player is a Denon DVD2900.
It looks horrible. Maybe next time they'll spend 30 cents more and use a DVD9 instead of this single-layer DVD. You've been warned. 2005 saw Fernando Alonso's climactic rise to become the youngest driver to take pole position, the youngest race winner and now, remarkably, the youngest Formula 1T World Champion ever. This year saw dramatic changes with new rules and a radical shake up of the old order. Gone is the Ferrari domination of recent years, the team from Maranello could only manage the top step of the podium once this year! Nine different drivers took pole position and five won races in this record-breaking season, but the real story was the battle for supremacy between Renault and McLaren. Four consecutive race wins for Renault at the start of the season left McLaren struggling behind but, with Kimi Räikkönen challenging, they fought back. With threee races remaining, the Championship contenders had six wins apiece -Alonso had the upper hand but Räikkönen was not finished yet. Even when Alonso was crowned the Driver's Champion, the Constructors' World Championship title was still up for the taking. Ride on-board with Räikkönen for a qualifying lap of the inaugural Formula 1T Turkish Grand Prix and experience the infamous turn eight. Go behind the scenes of one of the most glamorous sports in the world with special features and exclusive on-board footage as FANTASTIC FERNANDO marksthe beginning of a new era of Formula 1T motor racing. (Exciting dvd about the good old races, cars and racers.)
("50 Years of Formula 1 On Board")
(Formula 1 on board review) Boy could this one have been soooo much better!
Don't be fooled. Very short in-car camera shots. The footage of Nurburgring is amazing, but so little of it. Why not give us the whole lap instead of small clips faded in and out? F1 is sitting on so much more they could have provided for this DVD and didn't. The Long Beach footage is spectacular, as is the Haikkonen pass of Schumacher at Belgium '00, but it's too little for the price they ask.
As far as the length, 40 min of in-car, then a long, boring extended sequence of F1 champions.
For the price, go somewhere else. This DVD is a great on board footage of Formula 1. Its very clear and you can turn the commentary off if you just want to hear the glorious sound of Grand Prix racing. Highly Recommended for anyone in to Formula 1. This is the kind of dvd you want to look at from time to time. The commentaries are very good, movie quality is excellent. I couldn't imagine they would be able to make you live so close to what happened in the old days. This video has brief glimpses into the historic events of Formula 1. A must for an F1 and other racing fans to see the drivers and cars that were from their day. This video is really something special if you are a Formula 1 fan. It is not so much a documentary but really it's about how the formula has evolved. The video won't explain much of the changes, rather, you are just on board the formula of different drivers at different moments in time as they go around various of the world renown formula 1 tracks.
This video really puts you in the drivers seat and you can see the technological advancements through time. It has a neat segment at the end where it will show you the F1 champions.
If you like speed and you like knowing what being on board a formula 1 looks like, then I recommend this video. Electrifying Grand Prix IN-CAR action with the legends of FORMULA ONEExperience the evocative eras of FORMULA ONE ...from the drivers seat...breathtaking on-board rides with FORMULA ONE legends Fangio, Moss, Stewart, Senna and Schumacher driving their exotic FORMULA ONE machines at historic Grand Prix circuits from the Nürburgring to Monaco, Spa, Suzuka, Monza and more. Crafted entirely from rare FORUMLA ONE archive footage, this action film takes you into the exclusive world of the FORMULA ONE race driver, from 1950 to present day. customer 's review (Motor Sports History was Made)
(good quality, the best of the DVD season reviews)
(The Last of the Great F1 DVDs)
(Great Formula review)
(On Board Camera) I've only been a Formula 1 since late 2006 (drawn in by the Schumacher - Alonso battle, and totally hooked since), so I've been watching these season review DVDs to get caught up on background, etc., as well as passing the winter off-season without experiencing total withdrawal symptoms.
By 2008 standards, the features are a little lacking ... you can play thru start to finish or play the individual races. Inexplicably, the video of the fastest qualifying lap doesn't play when you show the event, you have to play them separately.
Content wise, whether you were/are a Michael Schumacher fan or hater his domination of the 2004 season is awesome. This is when he won his 7th and final World Championship. After being utterly disappointed with the quality of this year's 2006 season review, I will have to settle on the idea that the 04 disc is still the best. The video compression is nearly exceptional considering the length of the film on only one disc. The sound is just as it should be: loud! The cars launching from the start line and the pits is terrific as the engine strains against the rev limiter. The deafening sound on the pit straights is accurately reproduced as well. Also, Formula One reaches a sort of "peak" for this era during 2004. The engine development pushes ever higher, with the 3.0 liter V-10s delivering over 950 bhp at over 18,500 rpm, and installed in a 1300 pound car that includes the driver. Bridgestone and Michelin are all about making the absolute fastest, stickiest tire possible. In fact, most standing lap records are held by the Formula One Ferrari of '04. This would be a great disc to introduce to a new fan as it is sure to impress. It is a great year in which the engineers really trounce the rule-makers and produce a devastatingly fast and dangerous car. WhitestarDVD, producer of this disc, was dropped after 2005. They did a great job on this review and it is a shame they were dropped.
Okay F1 Executives. Let's look back to this 2004 review and marvel at how CLEAR and SHARP the video quality is. Now go watch your latest 2006 edition, or just pour hot molten lava into your eye sockets! Little blurry isn't it? Im big Schumacher fan and this season was so great for Ferrari. They made all records!! Picture is good, commentary is nice. What I only marking litle minus is digital 5.1 sound missing. My first Formula One Review DVD. I bought it mostly for the on board pole position laps that unfortunately can not be played all together but have to be selected one by one. Other than that, the whole review was done nicely. A must have for any Formula One fan. The 2004 Formula One season was one for the history books, and this annualSeason ReviewDVD preserves it all for glorious posterity. Not only did Michael Schumacher score his record-setting seventh World Driver's Championship (13 wins in 18 races), but he and Ferrari teammate Rubens Barichello scored 1st- and 2nd-podium finishes throughout the season, taking the Scuderia to the Constructor's Championship by an untouchable margin. Barichello had a stellar and emotionally moving season that also saw the addition of two glorious new circuits (China, Bahrain); the "walrus tusk" nose on the new BMW Williams racer (eventually abandoned mid-season); the amazing Monaco race, where Jarno Trulli won and Schumacher spectacularly failed to finish due to an avoidable tunnel mishap; Ralf Schumacher's near-tragic shunt at Indianapolis (and his late-season recovery); Kimi Raikkonen's mounting frustrations in the unreliable Mercedes McLaren (and partial late-season comeback); the rise of Jenson Button and Takuma Sato as future F1 superstars; and rule-changes in engine use and qualifying that revamped the grid with equal parts controversy and approval. Even with Schumi's dominance, it was a fantastic season by any standard, setting the stage for tumultuous personnel changes in 2005.The2004 Reviewis better and longer (3 hours 14 minutes) than 2003's DVD, with such welcome additions as cockpit radio samples, improved camera angles, and throttle/brake indicators. It's still expensive, however, and although the race-by-race coverage is fantastic, one wishes for more interviews, expert commentary, and behind-the-scenes news. This is a no-nonsense summary, so you don't get as much background as you do on ITV or Speed Channel coverage, and some amusing details--like the missing diamond from Jaguar's "Ocean's Twelve" car--are conspicuously absent. Still, there's no better DVD available for F1 fans, and that makes the2004 Reviewan absolute must-have for your motorsports video library.--Jeff Shannon Rerations < Formula One Review 2004 >

customer 's review (Thorough history, but not the most exciting F1 footage)
(Fronm Amature to Pro.)
(A Great DVD) I think this is a very well put together history of F1, with some content that overlaps other DVDs I have but this title seems much more complete. However, in this video you will spend a lot of time looking at parked cars while listening to a narrative of their accomplishments, leaving a bit to be desired as far as seeing them in action on track from the cockpit or the tv cameras. The extra features include some text describing interesting incidents of various champion drivers - this is again the kind of material I would have preferred to see, not read about. I am a F-1 Car collector as well as Racer. I have been looking for comrehensive F1 history cars in DVD format for a long time. This, is no doubt the best DVDs on F1 cars there is along with book Formula1 1950-today is MUST for any amature F1 fan to professionals. See you in France~!!!! 'The World's Greatest Formula One Cars' is a great DVD. It is about all of the best Grand Prix cars that have ever raced in Formula One, cars like Ferrari, Cooper, Lotus, McLaren, Brabham, BRM, Williams and many others. There is a lot of information on cars that even raced before F1 including the 1930's battles between Mercedes Benz and Auto Union. The DVD starts with the Grand Prix Car from 1920 and continues right up through the years until it reaches Michael Schumacher's Ferrari F2000. There is a lot of great footage on the DVD including the famous battle between Gilles Villeneuve and Rene Arnoux for second place in the 1979 French Grand Prix. This is a great DVD and any fan of Formula One should buy it. An impressive visual encyclopedia,The World's Greatest F1 Carscovers the first 50 years of Formula One racing. The DVD begins with the stories of the Bugatti T51 and the Delage GP, which were basically stripped-down sports cars. Grand Prix aficionados will be thrilled with the detailed footage and narration on 103 cars ranging from early models like the Alfa Romeo 158, in which Giuseppe "Nino" Farina roared to the first F1 world title, to the Lotus 72 Ford (1970), which was the first car to try to achieve better aerodynamic downforce through body design, to the modern Ferrari 1996-2000. The DVD can be watched as a whole or can be broken down car by car. Also included is a "Classic F1 Experience" in which you race along via a camera mounted above the driver's helmet. The World's Greatest F1 Carsis an amazingly thorough ride through F1 history.--Dana Van Nest Rerations < The World's Greatest F1 Cars >

customer 's review (2003 Formula 1 World Championship)
(compared to the 2005 F1 review this is great!)
(You must be a fan to appreciate....)
(Disappointed with 2003 F1 DVD)
(Amazing Schumi) 2003 Formula 1 World Championship it's a very good DVD. The more I watch this review the more I want to watch it. Sure it's a littleshort but at least you get true DVD digital picture qualityThe new 2005 F1 review looks like a 80s VHS tape that sat in the sun for a few years. These beautiful cars were meant to be paused and replayed in slo mo forever. Maybe somedayF1 will get it. I love racing of all kinds, but F1 really gets me going. I never get to see the races on TV so this dvd is the only way that I can see it. I loved every second of it. There could have been a lot more done with this dvd, like more in car shots or rpm shots. But this dvd is basically a review of the 2003 season. That's all you get, just information and video clips of every race of the season. Like anyone else, I would have loved to see more camera angles and hear more engine sounds but this is all we get so I will take it. True, it will leave you wanting more, but you'll just have to get over it unless you can go to a race or find a better dvd, both of which are probably unlikely. So if you're a fan of F1 racing then I promise you'll like this dvd. I am not a F1 "expert fan" and I was very annoyed that terms are not explained. It was not even clear which track it was. So I did not understand most of what DVD tries to reveal. What I expected and did not get was ONE LAP from driver's viewpoint camera on every track. "Nice to have shown" feature would be car's telemetry (rpm, speed, gear, how hard gas/brake pedal pressed). When cars crashed, I expected to see car's tracking just before spin-out so I could try and guess why driver lost control. So unless you are already a F1-knowledgeable fan, I cannot recommend this DVD Heres one great DVD for the F1 fans. It covers the full qualifying laps of the pole sitters and the main events in the race. Actions made off and on the track. It even covers the controversy of the Michelins tires being a little too wide. Well arent we all great to see Schumacher trying to work his talents when his car is no better than his rivals. Raikkonen scored his maiden win and so does Fernando Alonso whos two years down the road from his age. Making Alonso the youngest ever driver to win a grand prix. Raikkonen almost winning the championship pondering what it would have been if he had scored points in races he retired such as Canada and Spain, which would make him the youngest f1 driver to win the championship. but he didnt do that of course and Schumacher took his 6th world title barely. Raikkonen and Montoya took it to the wire. And its great to see the making of a new Schumacher, Alonso win his first race. Overall a great video, wether you like it or not its the only way to see these guys, champion in the making battle and find glory in what could be the best years of their career. The world is talking about Formula One™ again, and here is your chance to see why. 2002 was marked by one team’s dominance, but 2003 was anybody’s game. Drastically improved displays from McLaren, Williams and Renault made life extremely tough for Ferrari and Michael Schumacher. New regulations, and a shift in the balance of power in the tire war, ensured that predicting the winner of each race was never easy, and as for the Championship…Eight different drivers stood on the top step of the podium. Three of them secured their maiden victories in FORMULA ONE! Kimi Räikkönen calmly took the title right down to the wire inonly his second season with a top team! Juan Pablo Montoya upped his game and came so close. Nothing could faze Fernando Alonso. He became the youngest F1™ race winner in history! Go on board with him as he laps Michael Schumacher! Experience the fastest race in F1 history. Get to the heartof this roller coaster of a season and follow Michael’s struggle to win an unprecedented sixth world title. Color, 145 min. Michael Schumacher's historic sixth World Championship is just one of many memorable highlights in theOfficial Reviewof F1's eventful 2003 season. Compiled from official broadcast coverage including excerpts from post-race interviews and qualifying pole-winners, this annual survey offers concise summaries of all 16 races from Australia (where Finland's Kimi Räikkönen scored a pivotal victory for McLaren) to Japan, where Rubens Barrichello secured a win for himself, the constructor's championship for Ferrari, and all-time greatest honors for his teammate, the über-German Schumacher. Brazil was crazy all around, with sporadic rain, frequent tire changes, a spectacular wipeout by Renault's Fernando Alonso (who still earned a third-place finish), and a judgment-decided victory for Jordan's Giancarlo Fisichella. (Better use of graphics and narration would clarify race-to-race transitions, but knowledgeable F1 fans probably won't notice this forgivable flaw.)"Schumi" scored an emotional victory at San Marino just hours after his mother's death, and won again in Italy (including his fastest-ever lap), Austria, Canada, and the rainy-day U.S. GP (while brother Ralf won the European and French GPs). Ferrari's new "shark-vented" F2003GA debuted at Imola; Juan Pablo Montoya challenged the championship with a win at Monaco (where 2002-to-2003 track changes are shown in split-screen from the cockpit of JPM's Williams); and Alonso's first-place finish at Hungary made him the youngest-ever GP winner. Despite numerous revisions in regulations and Ferrari's mid-season protest over apparent Michelin tire-width violations (judges dismissed the claim while Michelin corrected its tire size), the 2003 F1 season achieved its commercial goal with huge crowds, wacky highlights (remember that kilted loony on the track at Silverstone?), celebrity appearances, climactic races, intense competition from Williams, McLaren, and Renault (to contrast Ferrari's dominance in 2002), and the amazing achievement of Schumacher, now indisputably the greatest driver (statistically speaking) in the history of Formula One.--Jeff Shannon Rerations < 2003 Formula 1 World Championship Review >
