It helps considerably, but they still work loose after several uses. Beats every time you get it out though. Want to give it try yourself, here's what to do (for you mechanics in the audience pardon the oversimplification). You need four (4) @ brass or stainless steel (so they won't rust) lock + flat washers. Also, be sure to get the kind of lock washer that has the teeth on the INSIDE because there isn't much play around the screw holes. I think the size is 10/24, but take along one of the screws (in a baggie so it won't get lost) to a real hardware store that has the rows of boxes with all the little doo-dads in them. Not likely to be had at a Home Depot or Lowe's plus you'd waste valuable shoe leather. Ask one of the folks hanging around the front counter for help or else - while you may find wonderful things you didn't know existed - you can spend a lot of time rummaging thru all those tiny boxes. Also, be sure to check each washer (should be 8 total) against the leg screw since not everyone is as careful as you to get things back in the correct slot. The heads of the leg screws are slotted to accept either kind of screwdriver, flat or Phillips, but you will need a small size. Consider this during your hardware store experience if you don't already own one. When installing the washers, the flat one goes in first, right against the plastic, then the toothed washer, then the screw. Be careful to start the screw in straight so as not to strip out the threads in the plastic. If after just one or two revolutions, the screw starts to get harder to turn, its maybe not going in straight. Back it out and try again. If you've turned it several times and the screwdriver then encounters resistance STOP, again to avoid that stripping thing. Then carefully tighten just a smidgen more, like 1/8 turn. Or as they say in the trade, Do Not Overtightened. Repeat four times and that's it. I considered using Loc Tite but the diameter is smaller than spec. At 7 or 8 bucks for a tiny can I didn't want to see if it worked outside prescribed limits. Maybe some of you mechanics can give it a try and report back to the less adventurous among us. One could epoxy the dad gum things in, but if the leg assembly needed replacement, your screwed. Ouch.』

The only improvement that I can suggest is that rubber feet be made into the black handles where they touch the counter that the skillet sits on. I had studied a lot of reviews and found out many reviewers mentioned that there might be some warping problems of All-Clad pan when using it on stove top to make gravy. ( Some mentioned that the All-Clad roasting pan is NOT Tri-ply but it is made from thick stailess steel.) I mostly use another pot to make gravy, but the review somehow bothered me. That is mainly why I was more for this Calphalon Contemporary, which is said to be a tri-ply stainless steel product.
Just in case, I went to a local department store to compare how it feels to lift up those pans. This pan is lighter than the All-Clad roasting pan, but I feel more comforable to lift it up. Unfortunately, I was unable to test a pan of Sur La Table as the closest local shop is 1hour drive from my place.
With all my homework done, I finally bought this pan when I suddenly noticed that there was season-off sale going on at Amazon during one weekend in February 2009. I paid less than $90 and shipping was free!!! So, it is a very good deal for me. WORTH to wait.
In terms of performance, I am very much satisfied. I have never experienced probrems as some other reviewers mentioned, burning my hand/arm, etc. I even feel more secured from the pan's arms and easier to use my baking gloves to lift up the pan since the arms has wider space than other roasting pans. Cleaning is no problem at all. I usually use Baking Soda/powder for tough spot. For even tougher spots, I use Barkeeper's friend, which you can buy at Homedepot or Bed Bath Beyond etc.
On top of that, I like the modern look of this pan a lot. It matches my simple white dining plates. It looks really good on the dining table when you invite friends and family for celebrations.

(READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, people.) 『People amaze me. SO many of the negative reviews of this product have to do with confusion over the serving size and have nothing to do with the quality of the coffee. If you read the instructions or do a little research before choosing what size to buy, you will clearly see that in "coffee" terms, a "cup" is considered 4 oz, not 8 oz. So if you need a larger size, buy a larger size. Don't blame the coffee maker because you can't do math. Also, don't give a glass item a negative review because you dropped it and broke it. You knew it was glass when you bought it--just be careful.
Now that that's out of the way, let's actually address the coffee. The Bodum makes a great, robust, full bodied cup of coffee. Pansies need not apply. Aside from a $600 espresso maker, for the true coffee lover, this is probably the best at-home coffee experience you can get. Before you decide on using a French press--any French press, you should realize that there are benefits and drawbacks--just as there are to any method of brewing. Yes, you will have some sludge in your cup. It's unavoidable. If that offends your delicate sensibilities, perhaps the French press is not for you. However, if you are looking for a REAL cup of coffee--bold, strong, flavorful--this is probably the best method of brewing. The press method of making coffee is all about freshness and flavor. Coffee beans have natural oils that contain a lot of the flavor. Paper filters in drip coffee makers take away this flavorful component, but give you have a cleaner cup of coffee. You have to choose which is more important to you. If you want to TASTE your coffee, give the Bodum French press a try. It's definately a little more work to heat your water separately and brew this way, especially if you are grinding fresh when you drink, but the the extra flavor is well worth the effort in my opinion.
Also, don't overlook the importance of the beans. If you don't have fresh, good quality beans it doesn't really matter what brewing method you use. For the best overall experience, I recommend fresh beans that you grind at home with a conical burr grinder on COARSE setting, and brew immediately in the bodum in the appropriate size of your choice. And READ THE INSTRUCTIONS of how much coffee to use. It's not a mystery, people. Use one scoop (included) for each 4 oz of water. Measure your water in ounces before heating to make sure you have the right proportions.
As a note, I purchased the 8-cup model that is sold with a warming "coat" included, which is a great addition. The coffee tends to cool down very quickly since the glass is thin and there is no built-in heating element or insulation. The box I purchased advertised that the coat is apparently free, so if you can find it for the same price with the warming coat included, I would highly recommend it.』

When Bodum took over a small clarinet factory in Normandy in 1982, it was not because of the fine orchestra clarinets they were producing. In addition to musical instruments, the factory also produced the coffee of a relatively unknown brewer called "The Chambord." Bodum combined the skills of these Normandy craftsmen with modern production. The result was a unique culinary tool, affordable to the many who loved the taste of what we now know as French press coffee.
Thanks to Bodum, and thanks to the increasing need for better coffee, the French press coffeemaker has become one of the most popular in the world. Yet the design has not strayed a bit from the original drawings, and Bodum still makes the Chambord with the same painstaking care and knowledge they gained from those Normandy craftspeople years ago. The ease of brewing and the delicious smell and taste of French-roasted dark coffee have remained unchanged.

In 2004 the Bodum Chambord coffee press received the American Culinary Institute's award for best French press coffeemaker.

Instructions for Use
1. Place pot on a dry, flat, nonslip surface. Hold handle firmly, then pull the plunger straight up and out of the pot.
2. For each 1.25-deciliter/4-ounce cup, put 1 rounded tablespoon or 1 Bodum scoop of coarse-ground coffee into the pot.
Caution:Use only coarse-ground coffee. Fine grind can clog the filter and create high pressure. Place coffee maker on a heatproof, nonslip surface.
3. Pour hot (not boiling) water into the pot. Leave a minimum of 2.5 centimeters/1 inch of space at the top. Stir the brew with a plastic spoon.
Caution:Metal spoons can scratch or chip the glass beaker and cause breakage.
4. Place the plunger unit on top of the pot. Turn lid to close off the pour spout opening. (Does not apply to the Brazil models.) Do not press down. Let the coffee brew for at least 4 minutes.
5. Hold the pot handle firmly, with the spout turned away from you, then using just the weight of your hand, apply slight pressure on top of the knob to lower the plunger straight down into the pot. Lowering the plunger slowly with minimal pressure produces best results. If the filter clogs or it becomes difficult to push down the plunger you should remove the plunger from the pot, stir the brew, and then slowly plunge again.
WARNING:Using excessive force can cause scalding liquid to shoot out of the pot.
6. Turn the lid to open the pour spout and then pour coffee.
7. Unscrew the filter assembly and clean the plunger unit after each use. All parts are dishwasher-safe.

Company History
In 1944 Peter Bodum, the father of today's owner, Joergen Bodum, started Bodum in Copenhagen. Times were difficult at the end of World War II; there was hardly any trade and people were out of work. Peter Bodum managed to wholesale a very small variety of housewares products by Danish manufacturers.
After the war Peter Bodum got an import license for kitchen and tabletop products; he traveled all over Europe and ended up importing kitchen and housewares to Denmark. As in the rest of Europe in those days, a lack of products in Denmark meant a market existed for almost anything to be sold. He specialized in glassware from Eastern Europe.
In the '50s Peter Bodum started developing his own products. He collaborated with the Danish architect Kaas Klaeson for a range of coffeemakers. At the time, industrial-design-type kitchen products were very rare. The first Bodum product to hit the market in 1958 was the Santos coffeemaker--based on a vacuum coffee brewing system. It became an instant sensation not only in Denmark but in all of Europe. Bodum still produces the original Santos design to this very day.
Bodum grew steadily during the '60s, but sadly, in 1967, at the age of only 57, Peter Bodum passed away. His wife managed the company until 1974, when she offered her 26-year-old son Joergen to join her in the management of the company. Joergen quickly brought on board Carsten Joergensen--then a teacher at the Danish School of Art in Copenhagen--and soon put him in charge of overall design for Bodum, including everything from products to corporate design, exhibitions, shops, buildings, catalogs, and advertising. It turned out to be a very long and fruitful collaboration. The two men began to fulfill Bodum's credo--"good design doesn't have to be expensive"--in lots of different ways.
In 1974 the first fruit of Joergen and Carsten's collaboration was introduced: the French coffee press Bistro. It was also the first incorporation of the new Bodum design language--beautiful simplicity and excellent materials for everyday life. Many more variations of coffee presses followed. Since 1974 Bodum has produced over 50 million French presses, taken the leap from "coffee" to "kitchen," and developed and produced a large variety of beautiful household and tabletop designs.
In 1979, when he took over the company, Joergen Bodum decided to move to Switzerland in order to be more centrally located in Europe. He chose the Lucerne area, where Bodum's head office has been located since the early '80s.
In 1980 Bodum Switzerland and its design unit, Pi-Design, were founded. Then, in 1986, the opening of Bodum's first shop in London marked another milestone in the Bodum history. It was designed not only to be the perfect showcase for the large variety of Bodum products but to embody an even stronger presentation of Bodum as an international brand. Many more shops in many more cities all over the world followed: Paris, Copenhagen, Zurich, Lucerne, Tokyo, New York, Dallas, Okinawa, Auckland, and many more. To this day there are 52 Bodum stores worldwide.
With more and more of its own stores in place, Bodum continued broadening its collection of beautifully designed everyday life products--from kitchen to home. After a year of frequent use, I could not be happier with this mixer. I have used it to make mixtures that were quite thick - most notably homeade Marshmallow Fluff - and I found that I could not break this mixer no matter how thick the mixture. Egg whites, dough, mashed potatoes become cinch. I could not acheive the same results with a handheld whisk no matter how hard I beat - this is truly a time- and energy-saving appliance. I cannot say this about many small kitchen appliances, but I have good reason to believe this hand mixer will last 20 years or more - very consistent with the quality one would expect from Cuisinart. Despite the fact that the power rating on the Cuisinart is about a third that of a comparable Kitchen Aid hand mixer, it is seemingly bulletproof. Just so no one gets any suprises, the lowest speed on this mixer is surprisingly high - if you hold it straight and use a large mixing bowl, you will have no problems. After some practice, you can hold it straight enough to use in a medium-sized mixing bowl with minimal splatter. The recipes included in the manual are a nice bonus feature. It will probably be a long time before I need to buy another hand mixer.』

This brought it to a boil in about 20 minutes, when my stovetop (if it could even have done it at all) would take hours. This would've gotten five stars except for two things: the pot itself is a bit flimsy (though I don't much care if it has some small dents, as long as it holds water) and the paint on the burner burns off the first time you use it - it smells terrible, but doesn't really affect anything else. I've used it again since the first time, and there was no more terrible smell, so it's just a one-time thing. Seems silly to paint it if it's just going to burn off, though.
If I decide to fry a turkey, I'll come back and update this review. 'Til then, it's definitely a cheap way to bring a whole bunch of liquid to a boil.』

Here's what the Underwriter's Laboratory has to say about turkey fryers: ""The numbers (for turkey-fryer fires) are not going down but going up," said Barbara Guthrie, the director of consumer affairs at Underwriters. "At present, we do not believe that there are any sufficient standards that address the safety concerns."
Guthrie said those concerns begin with 5 gallons of scalding 700-degree grease precariously perched over an open flame. And many fryers are unstable -- especially the tripod models -- which leads to a high incidence of tipping.
When the oil meets the fire, Guthrie said, the fryers instantly become a "vertical flame thrower."
The Underwriters Web site features a video of a turkey fryer filled with hot oil that overflows. When the grease hits the flame, the fryer turns into a volcano of smoke and fire in just seconds.
"We don't believe the taste is worth risking your home, your life or the life of your children," said Guthrie."

(Get what you pay for) 『As another poster mentioned, the paint doesn't last past the first use of this product. What he didn't go into, however, is that this paint is apparently flammable. On my second use of the burner I had the gas flowing at about 90%, left to go inside to grab something to drink, came back outside and the entire unit was in flames. If you are going to buy this burner, make sure you keep a very very VERY close eye on it until the paint burns (not melts, burns) off. I'd even advise trying to scrape the paint off as a precautionary measure.
Other than that, the pot and accessories served their purposes well. Just wish that if the paint was going to burn off from the get-go that they'd just sent one without any paint on it at all.』

Not only does this rack make more sense, it also is so easy to assemble and put away after use. It is also very stable in my opinion (more than my old method) and there is quite a lot of room to put your pasta sheets or fettucine ribbons etc. to rest and dry.

Even a complete klutz like myself can assemble one of these in a snap. I owned this for 150 days and then it quit. We took it apart, basically this design is living on borrowed time as the unit will eventually fail.
Sunbeam placed the actual electronic switch below the aluminum bowl part and on top of the plastic housing. The grey button on the top is nothing more than a lever to another piece that actually depresses the electronic switch below the aluminum bowl. The real electronic switch is less than an inch from where the water flows from the aluminum bowl and out the dispenser. That switch, also sits right next to the heating element. Now you don't need to be an engineer to know that electronics don't care for heat and they don't care for water. In our case the heat killed the electronic "on" switch. I am not sure where the previous model's (3211) actual "on" switch was, but it had to be in a smarter location that this for it to last TEN years.
So the old design, built in the US apparently lasted 10 years and the new design, made in China lasted 150 days. I should have read the 1-star reviews as I would have found that just about every owner of the previous model have had nothing but bad experience with this model. Don't discount the opinions of those that owned the previous model. I don't think I will ever buy another Sunbeam product again, this is just the tip of the iceberg.
P.S. The only reason we replaced our ten year old 3211 model was because the rubber or plastic seal in the dispenser part had worn out and the unit would leak while dispensing.』
(Good heat, but too small) 『This is a good quality product, it truly is. The problem I have with it lies in the fact that I bought it online rather than seeing it in a store. I use tall travel coffee cups which are pretty standard these days, so I had erroneously assumed that this model would accommodate them. That was my fault. While the Sunbeam does heat water quickly and to a good temperature, it is a big inconvenience to have to use a small coffee mug to transfer the water to my travel mug. It is also too small for me to slide my teapot under, meaning I have the same problem of transferring the hot water from cup to pot. If you only use regular size coffee mugs this will be fine. If you're more fond of over-sized mugs or travel mugs - I'd advise investing in a different model.』

(Useful and money saving) 『This is a great product. I had one years ago and then shifted to heating water for tea in the microwave. My last microwave had a short life and when I replaced it, I bought another "Hot Shot" for heating water to take some of the use away from the microwave. The hot shot is quicker, the water is the perfect temperature for tea, and it saves electricity. I'd give it 5 stars if the water drained faster after it was heated. This is a great graduation gift.』
