Trying to switch from plastic containers in the kitchen. This is perfect for storing hot food. A good mix of sizes too.
The only problem I have is the lid for the bigger bowl was warped too much to get it on.
This 10 piece set is no longer sold though Amazon. Just wanted to let you know since I had problems with both 10 piece sets I ordered at the same time.
I bought these sets because I was tired of my huge collection of plastic storage containers. I wanted to use them for freezer to oven/microwave use. Unfortunately, all of the lids on the round containers did not fit. I was not able to even force on a single one of the round lids. The rectangular lids are fine and tight. Pyrex will not help take care of the problem, so Amazon customer service, after several emails back and forth,is taking care of it.
I read the reviews for this item, and for other sets in this line, and though the problem with the lids was mentioned, it seemed to be in a small minority. Until I get replacements, the round containers make nice soup bowls!
When I use the items to freeze portions, there is little frost when freezing for up to 2 weeks. I usually wrap the containers in plastic for longer storage. Defrost overnight in the fridge, then reheat in oven or microwave. The glass containers perform great, with nice uniform heating. Just a warning-microwaving is often quicker than you might think, and the container is very hot.
When storing same size pieces, I must put paper towels in between, because by nesting, the containers tend to get stuck together. If you are not strapped for space, separating sizes shouldn't be a problem.
I love this set! The glass is nice and thick, I don't think it would break very easy. I have put them in the dishwasher, plastic lids and all and they do great. They are so handy for food storage in the refrigerator, I use the rectangle containers for sliced deli meats, and the round for ones various foods including storing a partly sliced onion or tomato in the smaller round containers. My son that that was pretty neat, LOL. I bought this set for $14.99 and hope to find them on sale again, because I REALLY want another set. I gave 5 stars because one of the rectangle lids fits a little loose, but all the others fit good and tight!
i ordered a couple of these sets because i often cook large batches of food then freeze. the greatest thing about that is that you can put the same container in the micowave or oven later. they are super tough. last week i was washing two 2 cup bowls in the sink. i dropped one onto the other really hard and there wasn't even a scratch! the lids fit very snugly.

I looked everywhere for this pot and for the canning accessories, and couldn't find them in any store near my house. A store about an hour away supposedly had the canner and the accessories included for something like $70. I found both on Amazon (separately) and paid way, way less, and they were both delivered to my home in a few days. I made applesauce and apple butter and everything came out great.
When all the stores were out of canners, Amazon saved the day.
This was exactly what I was looking for.
I am very pleased with this product. It made canning much easier than the method I was using before. No initial problems.
This works perfectly at a good price. I am unable to process anything other than quart jars in the rack provided. Technically I could try to use pint and half pint jars, but they do not rest properly and end up falling over or even through the rack when it is in the lifted (hanging by handles to rim of pot) position.
This is a fantastic product. It works really well and is easy to clean. It's not even too big for my sink, but just big enough. But be aware, the rack doesn't work for 4oz jars.

Functionality, it was exactly what i was expecting. Produces quite a bit of smoke while cooking, but i think it's a user issue. Cleaning is nothing unexpected.

All-in-all it was what i was looking for at a great price. I'm happy :)
We just tried out the Lodge Grill/Griddle on a weekend camping trip and it was just awesome. Granted, its not for people walking the Appalachian Trail, but if you are car camping or out with the Scouts I can't recommend it enough.

First of all, it's nearly impossible to hurt. I don't care if a tree limb falls on it, it isn't going to do more than dint a bit. This means you can shove it almost anywhere in the car without having to be concerned about 'special storage'. Secondly, you can put the grill directly on coals or on a propane stove and it won't hurt the surface. On our scouting trip we did both and whatever soot accumulated came off easily.

Now, being a proponent of cast iron -- my grandmother started me off with some of hers when we first got married -- I was a little bit concerned about 'factory finish'. In fact, I brought some oil, just in case, but we never had to get it out of the car. The grill was finished beautifully. Just as good as my granny's.

We cooked bacon and eggs and burgers and Texas toast the first night and nothing stuck! (Okay, I'd only have expected the eggs to stick... but they didn't). We used a Coleman stove and guess what? The grill fit perfectly over the two burners and the grill was perfect for pancakes and grilled cheese sandwiches. Clean up took only minutes.

Now... some hints and tips. If you are going to use the grill around children, you are going to have to remind them repeatedly that it stays hot for a long while. To that end, you might want to have pot holders or towels available if you want to move it shortly after use. The other thing you might want to have handy are paper towels. We cooked a pound of bacon one morning and the little groove on one side is not big enough for that much grease. To fix this --because you obviously don't want to have to pick up the grill and drain it into a jar -- use paper towels to carefully sop up the grease. You can throw these into a garbage bag.

Anyway, I highly recommend this Lodge product for camping. The flat surface is just so flexible and useful it's ridiculous. We plan to use it at home over two burners for pancakes and such. And out on the grill for fish and veggies.

This is a dynamite pan! In so many ways the words "cast iron" says it all, but just in case it doesn't, here are the big points:

1. Naturally non-stick
Pre-seasoned and ready for cooking! Of course, pre-seasoned doesn't mean the same as the new generation non-stick coating pans. It's more like a hard anodized aluminum, only better. Yes, you can make food stick to cast iron. But if you don't want that to happen, just remember to heat the pan first, put your oil on it and drop the food onto cold oil. Let the oil get hot and you're sunk! Just to test it, my first test was a fried egg. A little bit of butter, egg on top and no problem. Easy flip, easy eat.

2. Easy clean up
Throw a hefty bit of salt on the pan before it cools (or reheat it), use a paper towel pad with the oil or grease on the pan with the salt to scour the bits off. Wipe off the salt and bits and voila! Clean *and* oiled pan.

3. Even heat distribution
Nothing beats cast iron. Yes, you will notice a cold spot between the burners. Get over it. It's possible a heavy copper griddle might not have that, but see if you can find one. Or afford it.

4. Home defense tool
If the zombies attack your kitchen while the griddle is out, you have a 15 pound club!

The only down side to this piece of wonder is the lack of a grease pouring lip. The inclusion of that would have made this review a 5.
I've read a lot of reviews before I purchased this griddle. Yes, it does take a little time to heat up, but as one review stated, "put it on the burners before you start your food prep and it will be up to temp by the time you want to use it." I have a glass top range with a bridging element; it takes around 5 minutes to warm up. Also remember you can turn the burners off at least a minute before your food is done cooking. The size is a plus, it covers the burners perfectly. The down side, the reason I didn't rate it 5 Stars, is the grease channel on each side of the griddle, it is too wide. The 1/2" - 3/4" grease channel on each side takes away too much potential cooking surface; it could have been made with narrower channels.

Overall the griddle is a good buy.
Purchased this a couple of months ago and am very pleased with this purchase. As I am a huge fan of cast iron cookware, this was a welcome addition to my kitchen. Since I live in a condo and cannot use a traditional grill this works perfectly on my gas stove (rests over 2 burners) and excellent control over the temperature.

The product came out of the box pre-seasoned and ready to use which was a huge plus in itself as anybody who cooks with cast iron knows what that entails.

The directions recommend cleaning the grill with a wire brush while it's still warm and that does work but a I found that using the wire brush attachment with my steam cleaner works even better. As with all cast iron cookware you must rub it down with a vegetable oil soaked rag or paper towel after every use for the first few times you use it. After that not so often.

This stove top grill comes close to giving the backyard BBQ look (deep dark sear marks) and taste without the hassle of setting up the grill (charcoal, lighter fluid, etc.)

Flip the grill over on the other side and you have the perfect griddle for pancakes, grilled cheese sandwiches, eggs, hashbrowns, etc.

I had my heart set on the Thermapen instant thermometer, but seeing as how that is nearly $100 and I am not a professional chef, I started the search for a more affordable instant-read thermometer. This one is fantastic for the price. It truly is instant (within three seconds) most of the time. Sometimes when I'm cooking a whole chicken and I stick the thermometer in it will take about 10 seconds, which, yes, is a long time, but that happens rarely. Clean-up is easy, and it comes with a neat little sheath to keep it clean in the drawer. Overall, I love it!
Suggested by America's Test Kitchen and I agree. I didn't know my old meat thermometer was so slow. But don't bother to pay extra for 2 Day shipping. I did and received the thermometer 7 days after my order. It was sent 2-Day but only after it took an extra 5 days to get it to the shipper.
Great thermometer, low price and easy to use. I like steaks medum rare and internal temperature of 145 degrees is easy to determine with the CDN. What else needs to be said.
I liked this alot but it ceased operation after 2 years of light use. Changing the battery didn't help. I was going to buy another one when I read about a different product of theirs had a 5 year warranty. So I called them and this also has a 5 year plan. They sent me a new one without giving the third degree. I didn't even have to send in my old one. Oh, yeah, when I called......a real person answered the phone!! Nice, ehh?
This will take at lest 10 secounds to be in the ballpark and thats a long time to hold your hand over the grill. In about 8 secounds as advertised it will be in the ballpark but still going up in temp at ftactions IE 135.3---135.7---136.2---136.8---137 etc. I haven't seen it stop measuring yet! The good news is it is accurate.

I make alot of salsa. This product is amazing&I love it. Its small&stores easy. A must have&it doesn't liquify your veges.
I was hesitant about buying a small food processor. For some reason I thought it wouldn't do the job as well as a big one. It was my first time purchasing a food processor and I am so happy I went with this one. Its fast, powerful and does a great job making baby food. :) I recommend this one for all the mommies that don't want something too big but want the job well done!
Then the buttons with the Chop/Pulse words on them got sticky and started not working. Then I peeled the sticker off the front and found that liquid had gotten in there. I cleaned it out with a wet towel, but it still sticks and has an on/off mind of its own. It is a hassle to use. I want to buy one with real lever buttons next time or a better barrier between the liquid and electronics.
I wanted to LOVE it. I was in LUST with it. I even waited for the slightly larger, new&improved version to come out. But in the heat of battle it let me down.

The day it arrived I was SO excited. "I'll never use that big 14 cup behemoth again" I said. So I unceremoniously shoved it into the hall closet along with the vacuum, goat-skin rug,&the recently discarded Tupperware "cake-taker".

I proudly set my gleaming new mini-prep next to the K.A. stand mixer and the Mini ZO breadmaker in my one&only appliance garage (which will only hold THREE items.) "This is gonna be perfect for chopping herbs, making breadcrumbs,&chopping nuts" I thought. I admired it every time I looked at it.

Then one weekend company was coming&I wanted to make spinach dip (you know the one with the leek soup mix&the spinach&the green onion?)I finally had a chance to put the mini-prep through its paces. Well the darned mini-prep was just a little too small...I know, because I TRIED!

So down the hall I trudged to lug the BIG CUISINART back to the kitchen. Everything worked out&I only had 12 or so parts to clean&put away.

Next time, I was making carrot cake. But oops... the mini only has a
blade, no grater. Back down the hall.
This is getting to be a drag.

TIME: Not many days later.
SCENE: My house , a couple of hours before the BIG PARTY ... Lots of company, MUCHO food to prep. Need a ton of basil for the pesto ASAP! I'm workin' with greasy hands...I'm workin' with ONE HAND!! AND THE BOWL WON'T COME OFF!! I used TWO HANDS! It was just like trying to catch a falling bar of soap in the shower! THE WHOLE THING TIPS OVER! The base of the mini just doesn't have the weight of the BIG DADDY.

End of love affair.

Great pan. Perfect size cups and a nice wide rim so it's easy to grab even with unwieldy oven mitts. The nonstick surface is nice and slick.
I got this for a friend, so I can't say how well it's been working, but it arrived at my house fairly quickly and in good shape.
Love this product. I have used it again and again. Sturdy and easy to clean. Bakes like a standard dark pan. Would highly recommend.

This set of cookie cutters was purchased for my bakery student son. He has used them also for making biscuits. They are well made and easily cleaned. Very versatile.
I make a lot of cookies, biscuits and scones and this is perfect I'm probably going to buy the other versions of this set since it worked out so good. It stores in a really small place and is built to last.

sturdy construction that does not buckle like ordinary cooking cutters you would find in the baking section. Really convenient that it comes in a nice round tin that holds them all. I don't really use them for baking, I use them for plating designs etc. but they do work very well for what they were intended. Also works well for making round raviolis or cutting circles out of any type of dough. Can't be happier.

I bake a lot of cookies. My mother baked a lot of cookies as did both of my grandmothers. I have every cutter these three women ever owned and an additional collection that seems to breed and grow in my kitchen drawers...each time I open them, there seems to be more. I purchased these graduated cutters sometime ago and I must say they get quite a work out. They are absolutely ideal for my needs. I bake a lot for friends, groups and clubs and have constant orders for various sizes. These work perfectly. They have a very nice keen edge to them and store well. As has been pointed out, they do rust so I always make sure they are well washed and well dried. A very, very thin coat of olive oil helps which is washed off each time I use them helps a lot. The price on this set is great. I paid almost three times the amount offered here for my set. I am delighted with mine.

This is a great product. Looks good, works fast. Make sure you use filtered or distilled water.
... but that is not necessarily an endorsement - it's just that I cannot find anything I like better, because I like to see the water, and abhor the closed-top tea kettle type.

1. To the lady who wrote in<<>>You may indeed be referring to some multiple-post crank. But although my first three of these had no such problem, my fourth very, very definitely did. Went away over a couple of weeks. If you would like to verify I am a real person, write me at apartment 6C, 1105 Park Avenue, NYC 10128. I will write back, call back, or come over and you can pinch me to see if I'm real. Ma'am, only a few posters are saying every kettle has this problem, but there are consistently, over the long history of these posts, problems with smells. With some units. And Capresso seems to be indifferent to the matter.

2. I was struck by the poster who said they had gotten rid of their Russell Hobbs "after 15 years". Did you notice that I said this was my fifth? We use ours perhaps 4x day, 10 months a year. Ours have worn out - just stopped working - after 8-14 months. Not a very good service life, to my mind, for a fairly simple mechanical device. At the moment it is erratically turning on and off - I suppose it will quit pretty soon. And the interior "chrome" dome is rusting, something which has not happened previously.

3. There are alarming peculiarities, like the failure of the auto-shutoff, that I cannot quite believe would leave a factory (like the small screws another poster mentioned).

So why wil I buy another one? Because I like seeing the water boil. And I will put up with the short service life. And, perhaps again, the smells.

But it does seem to me that Capresso is not on the ball. I have never tried approaching them myself, but I note that a) other posts on the list say that Capresso just stonewalled them and b) I note that Capresso has not posted responses (as far as I can tell). Many manufacturers do engage customers in that way, and I think that is the responsible way to go.

I ordered the Capresso but was a little worried about the reviews which talked about a smell some people experienced when the unit was working. Got it, followed the directions and did notice the smell the first couple of times I used it. But, like other reviewers have noted, the smell goes away after a few uses. We've had it two weeks and use it two or three times a day. No smell, quick heating and great looking. you can lengthen or shorten the cord. It's great! No surprise that Americ'as test kitchen ranked it first.
We ran into this type hot water kettle in Europe and were pleased with how fast it took cold water to the boiling stage. For making tea and instant coffee it is so much better than the old kettle on the stove system.
I have used my Capresso Electric H20 Tea Kettle for just over 5 years - and LOVED it! It looks great and would bring water to a boil in about 4-5 minutes (in a high altitude location, too). But today, I had an accident with the tea kettle that alarmed me. I had just brought a full kettle of water to the boil and was pouring it into a teapot, when the entire handle just ripped away from the body, sending a cascade of BOILING water all over my counter and my leg. I got a bad burn from the event. Upon closer examination, I saw the fatal flaw in the construction of this tea kettle: there are two tiny screws, screwed into a plastic sheath that hold the handle in place. Over time, with repeated use, the plastic sheath becomes warped, stripped of its rings, cracks, and in the case of today, finally gives out completely. I was shocked at how cheaply made this kettle was in the most critical juncture: where the handle attaches to the body. I have already filed a complaint with the Consumer Product Safety Commission and informed Capresso as well. Yes, the kettle looks great. Yes, it boils water fast. But in time, the handle WILL fail. Not "if" but "when". You do not want to be on the receiving end of a cascade of boiling hot water.

This machine works really nice! If there is a downfall it's the clean up, because the pitcher part cannot be removed, so you have to be more cautious when cleaning. But other than that it is very quiet and quick.
My son wanted this for his first year away at college. The rules were no microwaves, hotplates, cooking apparatus, etc. One small coffee maker or hot cocoa maker is ok as long as it has auto shut off, which this does. It heats quickly ,mixes well and has a place underneath to wrap extra cord length. It also comes with a recipe book for variations. My son loves it.
My sister is not a coffee drinker, but has to have her soy hot cocoa every morning. She used to go to Starbucks, till they changed soy. Ugh! I bought a Williams-Sonoma Bialetti Hot Cocoa Maker for $79.95, and it lasted less than six months. Thought I'd give the Cocomotion a try. At a QUARTER the cost, it makes just as good cocoa. It's also quieter and easier to clean. A great buy!

Bought this because I saw similar (but not identical) bottle re-stoppers at a Winery, where samples could be tested. Staff could uncork and recork the bottles very quickly for sampling.

So far these have worked well. Stoppers go easily into the bottles. Just have to pull the vacuum handle several times until you here a clicking. Not difficult to pull handle. Also when ready to reuse, just need to press the upper 'stem' on the stopper sideways, vacuum seal is broken and stopper comes out easily. So far working well. People at the winery said you could not use this method for 'sparkling' beverages (champagne) as the vacuum would remove the CO2 (sparkle) - so have not tried with champagne.
While I don't own this item (I have added it to my Christmas list), I would like to dispel a myth that has appeared in some of the reviews.

As a mechanical engineer who has designed vacuum chambers for over 16 years, I can tell you with great certainty that you can create a vacuum with a hand pump.

Technically, a vacuum is any pressure below atmosphere. If you can remove one molecule of gas with this hand pump you have created a vacuum. If you hear or feel air rush into the bottle when you remove the cork, you have created a vacuum.

The more relevant question is how strong of a vacuum can you create?

Since vacuum is simply a pressure (force/area) less than atmosphere, you can measure the "strength" of the vacuum by comparing the force differential across the pump. Atmospheric pressure at sea level is around 14.7 lb/in^2. If the area of the pump's piston is 1 in^2, you could create a complete vacuum with 14.7 pounds of force. In other words, you could create a complete vacuum with half the force needed to put air in your car's tire. The application of force to this pump is not the limiting factor in creating a vacuum.

The limiting factor will likely be the vapor pressure of the wine.

Due to the kinetics of the molecules in the liquid, there are always some molecules of wine that are ejected from the surface of the liquid. The rate at which these molecules are ejected is a function of temperature. If all the air molecules were removed from the bottle, a vapor would be created in the head space at the vapor pressure of the liquid.

Presuming that the wine was composed exclusively of ethanol and water, its vapor pressure would be around 53 torr or 1/14th of an atmosphere ([...]). The pressure in the wine bottle cannot be reduced below this point as long as liquid remains in the bottle.

A wine bottle opening is typically 18 mm, so a force of 5 pounds would be sufficient to remove all the air from the headspace. It should be noted that air may have diffused into the wine and predicting its extraction is complicated by a time element and potential chemical reactions between the wine and the oxygen. It should also be noted that mixing between the wine vapor and the air in the head space would likely result in some wine vapor being extracted during the pumping process, reducing the amount of air extracted proportionally. This effect would likely produce a first order response that may make it impossible to completely remove all air while wine vapor remains.

I don't how good the seals are on the Vacu Vin, but if it feels like you have to pull with about five pounds of force, you are getting a pretty strong vacuum. Less than 1 pound of force would produce a pretty weak vacuum that would leave more than 80% of the air in the bottle.

Either way, have fun.
The wine saver is perfect. I cook with wine so use very little at a time and needed a good way to preserve it between recipes. This Vacu Vin works great for that purpose. This vendor shipped it super fast!!! I would definitely buy from this vendor (sarasbeth) again! All around great experience!
