(Best Knife Sharpener)
(Serves its purpose)
(It works)
(Good, but some flaws) I bought the Fiskars Axe and Knife Sharpener so I could keep a sharp edge on the Fiskars 17-inch Splitting Axe I also bought. I like the design of this sharpener. The hand grip and shield are good safety features. I have used it on my pocket knife and on my hatchet and axe. It's very easy to use - not at all awkward. It put a sharp edge on my little knife as well as on the heavy blades of my hatchet and axe. This item was shipped immediately, and is the perfect sharpener. Hides in drawer, ready for use any time. Perfect for our family. This probably isn't the greatest knife sharpener in the world, but it serves it's purpose and my knives are very sharp at the moment.
Overall pleased and would recommend to anyone looking for a low cost solution to the dull knife epidemic :) This sharpener is the only one I have found that will sharpen my cheap kitchen knives. It will sharpen them to almost shaving. Believe me, that is very good for the cheap knives I have. Nothing else has come close. This is a handy tool that really simplifies sharpening. However, it has a few flaws.
Pros:
-Very Easy
-Hand Guard
-Lifetime Guarentee
Cons:
-Sharpens at 30 degree angle. Great for an axe, but for a knife, most people prefer a 20 or even a 10.
-Leaves black dust on the edge of cutlery
-Ok heres the big one: When sharpening, you press the axe into the sharpener and pull through the wheel. However, as you pull your axe out, it slices through the plastic in front of the wheel, there for somewhat dulling the axe. And sooner or later, you get deep cuts in the plastic, which really limits the sharpener's usefulness. Major design flaw.
Overall, the sharpener is great for axes, but for knives I tend to go back to the whetstone. And then there's the design flaw... The Fiskars axe and knife sharpener features a patented ceramic wheel to effectively and easily sharpen axes and knives at an exact 30-degree angle. The sharpener is built for safety as well, with a built-in hand guard and non-slip feet. It is covered by a lifetime warranty. Rerations < Fiskars Axe and Knife Sharpener #7861 >

(Bought it for a gift)
(Better than the others with the plastic sticks)
(They are easy to use.)
(A bit hard to use) Does what it's supposed to do. The lid is a bother to removed, it's an absolute necessity to run hot/ warm water over it to seperate from the plastic popsicle molds beneath, but all in all I am pleased with it. If someone comes up with another design, I am in! Bought it for a gift for a friend who had seen mine. She loved it so I bought her one for her own use at home. She loves it as much as I do. It is so much better than the little tupperware ones and the cutsy ones you get at wal-mart and the dollar stores. This is a product I can highly recommend to all who want to make their own frozen treats. I make fudgesicles and popscicles that are sugar free and I make fresh fruit pops as well without sugar. Delicious....... Although I like both the molds with the wood sticks and the ones with the plastic, I prefer these more because I can make a variety of flavors and pull them out of the mold and store them in a freezer bag. This allows for me to make as many as I want. The other molds, although great, you have to actually eat the popsicle before you can reuse the mold again. Easy to remove and nice size. I have only used them once so far. I found them easy to use. It's adequate but you have to run the hot water persistently because the metal top refreezes if you don't act quickly. I like that it uses sticks, though they sometimes get stuck in the narrow slots. I don't regret buying this item; it's definitely usable. (Good value and easy)
(Excellent Ice Cream Maker)
(Good but not great)
(Cuisinart Ice Cream Maker) Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R3H40FGV9KK1QRI thought I'd document our first try with this little video. I used the included recipe to make our first batch (and included instructions on the video). It was WONDERFUL.
The directions say to "freeze it for 2 hours" when you are done mixing it in the ice cream maker, if you want it firmer, but we found it perfect just out of the maker.
I have used regular "ice based" makers, and this one is about 50% of the noise of the one I was using. PLUS, it did not melt all over everything, or require the purchase of ice or salt.
Things to make sure it works: Make sure the inside is solidly frozen Chill your ingredients Turn it on before you pour them in. As I ended my video - "It's as easy as it says!" This is a great value. The product was very easy to use and it worked great. It is compact so it doesn't take up a lot of space like a lot of the other machines. It is so much fun to use this and your friends and family will really enjoy what you make. I purchased a red one of this type less than a month ago and have so far made four flavors. They all turned out delicious in less than half an hour of churning and one hour of freezing, except if I included the blending and cooling time for the custard base. The motor is quieter than a mixer. The freezer bowl is easy to clean by hand and whatever is washable came out fine from the dishwasher. To save freezing time and avoid early melting, keep some freezer-safe containers in the freezer while blending the ingredients. A few things to keep in mind: If you want to save money, drive to your nearest grocery store instead. If you want to make sure you know what you are eating, learn to master this machine and read the recipes. If you don't want to get fat out of eating ice cream, invite your good friends and share a batch with them. You can start the machine half an hour before your guests come, pour the ice cream to a freezer-safe container, serve salad and the main entree, engage in a good conversation, and then have dessert. This ice cream maker is easy to use and clean. The only problem I have is that it's never cold enough after it's done to actually eat. It's the consistency of soft serve so I have to put it into another container and let it sit in the fridge for a couple of hours until it firms up. This is a common complaint with ice cream makers so I wasn't surprised, but thought other people should be aware that it's not exactly done after 20 minutes. I have had this product for about a month now and have no complaints. We have made ice cream and frozen cokes and both have turned out great. The traditional styling of the Cuisinart Classic Frozen Yogurt-Ice Cream&Sorbet Maker will put a smile on every ice cream lover's face. Fully automatic, this frozen dessert maker requires only the additional of fresh ingredients and the flip of a switch to make 1 1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or those fabulous frozen drinks - icy smooth and ready to enjoy in as little as 20 minutes. (Better than the OEM scoop/tamper)
(Tamper)
(It's simple and it works.)
(Smaller size tamps my Delonghi) RSVP Terry's Tamper (first sorgive my spalling. I turned all higher brain function over to silicone YEARS ago!)
Espresso Tampers aren't exciting. They can be made to be pretty, or heavy so they feel like they are made better than they need to be, but they are actually just a utility item. Something made to push coffee into a little cup so it brews correctly. Definately NOT sexy at all.
However, Lattes, Cappaccinos, Cafe Cubano IS! And if you are trying to impress your date with a little sump'in special after a great evening out and you can't find the Tamper, you're in hot water when the coffee should be.
The RSVP Tamper is light weight, two sizes in one so you can't miss, and actually shines up nicely when you wash it. It does the job it was intended for perfectly at a great price from a seller who gives the the information when asked and ships quickly! So if you want any more than that you may want to check into what "OCD" means! The small end fits the Krups portafilter, get this...better than the Krups scoop/tamper. An awesome side effect of the small side fitting quite well, that leaves the larger diameter to fit into the palm and direct the pressure nice and even, not to mention polishing the puck with great ease. Unless you simply must have the best, most shiny, jewel encrusted, money sponge, then this is a great tamper at an equally great price. This aluminum tamper is a perfect addition to my espresso bar. A quailty tool at a nice price. A good tamper is needed for proper packing and strength of the espresso shot. I've been making it at home for about 1.5 years now and I am out doing all my favorite coffee shops. This tamper made it even better. Alton Brown says to tamp to 40lbs. I'm not sure if I push down that much, but I'm getting a way better tamp compared to the plastic POS that came with my machine.
This tamper is a must. You can't make a great shot of espresso without a great tamper and this is simple, cheap and all you need.
I bought this along with my DeLonghi EC155 Espresso Maker, and it works perfectly. I like the feel of it, and it looks ... well, it looks like a tamper. I am happy with what I got for the price I paid. That's good, right? Designed by a professional barista, this tamper is made of heavy cast metal and compresses espresso like nobody's business. (Use a KNIFE if it's too deep)
(Why pay for this when a toothpick works just as well?)
(does it's job)
(Good cake tester, perhaps not necessary) It's a cake tester, what can I say except that it is metal, dishwasher safe, and is great for bundt cakes which tend to be deeper than a tooth pick. In fact that's the reason I purchased it. If your cake is too deep for a toothpick, use a thin knife.
This is an excellent example of wastefulness There's nothing magic with this product. Works like a toothpick would. This is for the cook who prefers to have everything "modern". Good, I like the handle, not those cheap plastic kind/more wire. The tip does bend, but it's not a huge deal if it's not completely straight. Other wise it's a pretty nice cake tester. This is a great cake tester, and good for quick breads in loaf pans. It is very bendy however so you want to use it for quick breads/muffins/cakes only. I probably would not have bought this if I had found a tip from Cooks Illustrated earlier- to use a strand of dry spaghetti to test cakes. This method works really well, perhaps better than the cake tester. But since this product is so cheap it's still a good buy. The OXO GOOD GRIPS Cake Tester is the perfect tool for gauging when cakes are ready to come out of the oven. Insert the stainless steel wire into the center of your cake; if it comes out clean, the cake is ready. No more wasting toothpicks or wooden matches for this simple task. A soft grip is comfortable to hold, and the Cake Tester is dishwasher safe. Rerations < Oxo Good Grips Cake Tester >

(Concave Bottom)
(Water bath canner)
(Worth the price) This is a fantastic product. It works really well and is easy to clean. It's not even too big for my sink, but just big enough. But be aware, the rack doesn't work for 4oz jars. I use this for my canning business. They are a great value and I have ordered several and they always ship out immediately. Mine dented when weight was applied. Contacted customer service (not Amazon) and they've never responded.
You need to know that the bottom of this water-bath-canner is very concave which is only recommended for gas stoves. The National Center for Home Food Preservation recommends only flat bottomed canners for use on electric or flat-top stoves. I will not be able to use this canner now because of this.
At first use, the shiny coat came off of the bottle rack. It left a terrible dust coat over all of my bottles. Item was delivered on time. However there was a dent on the edge of the lid and the lip of the canner pot. Since time was of the essence, I kept it. That's my reason for the 4 star rating. If you're canning tomatoes, this item works perfectly well, and the price is right. We used this to make jelly and are very pleased with how it worked. We will be using it much more. Six generations of Americans have been using Granite Ware canners to preserve fruits and vegetables. The dark porcelain surface and steel core absorbs energy and evenly distributes heat to the contents. The construction is porcelain fired at 1500 degrees to the carbon steel core. The result is a canner that heats rapidly. The canner is perfect for preserving tomatoes or fruit, processing 8 quart jars at a time. Easy to clean. Comes with rack for easy lifting jars from canner. Granite Ware's high efficiency, quick boiling performance combined with its modest cost make it ideal for canning. Holds seven quart jars. (Ice Cream Maker)
(My husband has to cover his ears (not from the noise but my swearing).)
(Alright for the money)
(Wonderful but somewhat misunderstood ice cream maker that suffers (a bit) from cheaper materials.) I love this Ice Cream Machine! It is very easy to set up and use. I have had many different ice cream machines over the years and this is hands down the best. Makes excellent Ice cream or sorbet in less than an hour, requires no ice , salt or pre-freezing. You can make repeated batches. We have also used it for slushy cocktails. At first I thought the paddle/churn might be a bit fragile but it is holding up very well. My grandparents made prize winning ice cream in their plant and ice cream parlors when I was a child and the quality of this is more than equal to theirs. Some recipes come out about soft serve firmness but it firms up in the freezer. Once the ice cream is made a bell sounds and the machine turns of so you cannot leave your ice ceam in the machine and expect it to stay frozen. I did make one apple sorbet that did get too hard, too fast but that was a problem with the recipe not with the machine. It is rather noisy, but I can put up with the noise to have wonderful fresh ice cream treats whenever the whim strikes. It is very difficult to get the top on correctly to plug in plus attach the mixing apparatus. Had another make of this type of freezer and it was so much easier to set up. This machine has driven me crazy. In less than 10 minutes, the ice cream mix freezes around the sides of the bowl, and the paddle is not durable enough to work through it. Meanwhile, the rest of the mix in the center of the bowl is still liquid and soupy. The automatic shutoff doesn't work; the motor just keeps going and going even when the paddle can't move anymore. I found that removing the arm and paddle and redistributing the frozen part into the mix helps, but I have to do that every five minutes, and it makes a big mess. It's also extremely noisy. The embarrassing part is that this is the THIRD machine I've tried. I hauled the previous two back, naively thinking they were defective after consulting with Cuisinart on the phone, who told me to take it back and get another one after I described what was happening. The people at Sur La Table think I'm nuttier than a fruitcake, but after viewing similar reviews, I know I'm not (at least not for this reason). The end result is good if it's the full-fat, cooked custard version with eggs, but if you're after a lighter version, forget it, you get a solid block of ice. I promised my husband I would work on my swearing, and this has not helped. We're taking this one back and starting over with something else - not sure what, though. the plastic components could be metal. that would be better. it would be worth the small added expense. I'd love to give this machine a full 5 stars. I mean, I pulled it out of the box, pulled off the various stickers, washed the mixing bowl, paddle and lid, and proceeded to make wonderful ice cream in under an hour. No pre-freezing because of the built-in compressor (this is the primary difference between the ICE-50BC and the considerably less expensive Cuisinart ICE-30BC Pure Indulgence 2-Quart Automatic Frozen Yogurt, Sorbet, and Ice Cream Maker).
The machine is a little noisy, and this is even more true later in the freezing process just as the product is getting to the point where it's too frozen for the motor to handle. Indeed, ours lets out an almost disturbing screeching rhythm towards the end, and then a lot of loud clicking as it finally seizes up, but we'll take the noise when the end result is this good.
I see a lot of reviews that ding the product because the ice cream doesn't come out the way you find it in the stores. I think this is a pretty common misconception, and one that I likely would have fallen victim to myself had I not done a good deal of reading about the process beforehand. You can quite literally pour your ice cream out of the freezing bowl when the machine is done. You are not going to have "hard" ice cream without at least an hour or two in a freezer (depending upon how cold yours gets). This is not a flaw, it's just part of the process. Make no mistake, the 'finished' product when the machine is done is ready to be enjoyed, it's just going to be soft. We enjoy it that way, and we freeze a lot of it as well -- the consistency after an hour or two is exactly what you'd get from the stores.
My only complaint about the machine is that I feel like Cuisinart really skimped on the quality of some of the construction materials. You see the pictures here on Amazon, and imagine a nice sturdy stainless exterior. The reality is that the mixing arm (the structure on top of the unit) is silver covered plastic. The top surface of the machine itself is silver plastic. The paddle itself is a somewhat weak feeling white plastic (I can completely see this breaking in the future, but replacements are cheap). The cover is a slightly more impressive clear plastic. Don't misunderstand, it's a very nice machine, and attractive/professional looking enough that it will look at home in many nicer home kitchens, it's just sort of unfortunate that basically everything these days has that "made in China" feel to it.
Finally, do not be without Ben&Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream&Dessert Book. Even if you may not be a fan of their style and flavors, this book offers a wonderful introduction to ice cream making, including different variations of the base cream, a wide variety of recipes and ideas, as well as baked goods and sauces to go with your creations. To top it all of, they include a brief history of their company and themselves, which is an entirely entertaining read. We also picked up The Best Ice Cream Maker Cookbook Ever, which was far more comprehensive in terms of flavors, but a little less quick and easily accessible. Each compliments the other. This commercial-style compressor ice cream maker makes batch after batch of ice cream with no need to wait between batches and no pre-chill or pre-freezing required. With up to 1 1/5 quarts capacity, the ice ream maker features a fully automatic 60-minute timer, a stainless steel housing and a transparent lit with ingredient spout. (Nice home-grade electric food slicer)
(Good for occasional slicing)
(Slicer exceeded my expectations)
(What can i say I love it!) I read a lot of reviews and although all the talk of plastic screws and poor thin cut performance had me a little worried, I bought it anyway, and so far I'm glad I did. First off, the screw. As others have said, it has been redesigned and is now more of a plastic plug you unscrew with a coin. It looks like you'd have to try pretty hard to break this, so good job there! When I fired it up for the first time I was surprised by two things, first the speed of the blade. For some reason I was expecing the whirling death type of speed you get from a table saw, but nope - it's more like slow and steady. I think I counted about 1.5 seconds per full revolution. It was a nice surprise actually becuase the sharpness of these things had me a little intimidated to try it but the slolwer speed made it seem safer to use. Second was the sound. I'm not gonna lie, it is a little on the loud side. Comperable to a blender on low. Not a big deal for me, just surprising. The first thing I tried slicing was a 10 pound pit ham. I had to do it in thirds since it was so big, but the slicer had no trouble breaking it down. I did some thick and some pretty darn thin. Not exactly deli style, but close enough for me! I've heard you can go thinner with the optional smooth blade available here at Amazon. I also sliced a 4 pound eye of round beef roast for jerky. At first the beef was a little too mushy to slice evenly, but after freezing it for 20 minutes or so as other reviewers suggested I had no trouble at all. This really impressed me as I ended up with perfect slabs of 1/8" thick beef. Everything dried perfectly in large part to the uniform thickness this slicer delivered. The slicer comes apart very easily and is about as easy to clean as a slicer can be. Honestly, I don't plan on whipping this thing out every time I need to slice an onion, but for the big jobs this will certainly be a lifesaver! I'm so confident I'll be keeping this one I've already recycled the box it came in.
I just received my slicer a few days ago, and couldn't wait to try it out on deli meats. So I went to my local Smart and Final store to purchase a big loaf of pastrami or ham (went with pastrami - we'll go through it quicker), which costs about half in a bulk package than at the grocery deli counter. I cut the loaf into three pieces for easier handling, and went to work. It takes a little patience and a careful eye to make sure the loaf is properly positioned, but it sure slices meats very nicely. I used one of the thinnest settings to get shaved pieces, but tried one slice on a thicker setting (it works very well). I worked with a commercial slicer as a teenager in high school, and I daresay this worked almost as well as that one. I'm looking forward to slicing other meats and trying it on veggies, like potatoes, which will be a big timesaver during the holidays.
Taking it apart was a lot less trouble than I had anticipated. The blade removes easily with a flathead screwdriver or coin and can be held like a CD to keep sharp edges away from body parts. I cleaned the metal unremovable pieces with vinegar to de-grease, then bleach water to disinfect. Everything snaps right back together easily.
The only bummer thing about this slicer, and it's not worth a downgrade in the rating, is that it takes up a lot of counter space. But, I just put it back in the box and will store it in the pantry and pull it out about every three weeks when I want to do a mass slicing. Most deli meats can be frozen after cutting up and separating, making it an ideal way to save money and energy during the summer (no oven needed to make sandwiches!)
I recommend buying this slicer if you can get unsliced bulk deli meats where you live (prices are much cheaper) or plan to use it to slice up roast meats and veggies. A must have for a household with teenagers!!!
I use this for doing slicing about once a week for my business. It gets the job done and it is the easiest slicer to clean. I do find that it's not so easy to get wafer thin slices. Some meats are harder than others. I do love it for buying the boneless chicken breasts in bulk and slicing them into cutlet thinness and freezing. I freeze them for just a bit to get them still and it slices so easily. I would recommend this for someone who does not need to use it for cutting lunch meat everyday since it's not a very big blade, you'd need a commercial one but for a personal slicer it does the trick for weekly use. Also it's easy to maintain, no need for special lubrication's or cleaning agents. Just use household dish soap and grease with Vaseline. I gave a four star rating for the fact that I could not get the wafer thin slices I had hoped for. I don't know if this is more a testimony to the excellence of Amazon's customer reviews or to the machine itself.
I wanted a meat slicer so I could slice my smoked BBQ meats nice and thin, and was prepared to spend around $200-$250. After reading the reviews here on Amazon, I gritted my teeth and bought the much less expensive 610 because all the reviews said it was so good. They were right.
I received the 610 very quickly and started smoking a nice chunk of Pork Butt. When I finished, I refrigerated it overnight, then got to slicing the next morning. I was extremely pleased with the results! The machine handled the meat superbly and I got a great big pile of thinly sliced pork that got rave reviews from my guests.
I have since used the 610 for beef, which it handled nicely as well. What I discovered just playing around was how the machine handles vegetables. I thought it would be nice to try it on green peppers, portabellas, and tomatoes to go along with a roast beef (sliced also on the machine)sandwich. Man, was I pleased. Built a sort of "Dagwood" and it was wonderful.
My expectations were exceeded because I had bought one of those "department store" brands many years ago and not only did it cost more (even back then), it failed miserably in nearly all regards. The only way I could get that one to slice was in big fat slices, and even in that regard it was unsatisfactory. That is one of the reasons I was hesitant to spend a little less on this machine, but again, the reviews on Amazon convinced me otherwise.
The blade on this machine came out of the box ultra-sharp, the thickness gauge was robust and did not flex like other machines, and the sliding table the meat rode on was very smooth and flawless. I couldn't be happier.
My only complaint - a tiny one - was that one of the little ceramic(?) buttons that the blade rode against - behind the blade on the inside - came loose and I had to super glue it back in place. There are three of those buttons and they help the blade remain rigid and unable to flex when the meat is pushed up against the blade - a very good feature that helps make this little machine do what it does so well. Again, just a tiny complaint, and not any kind of reason not to purchase the 610. Probably just a one out of a million thing.
I am glad I listened to the advice of the Amazon reviewers - this is a great machine!
I love it. I cut stake for jerky and slice Whole hams with it for lunch meet and save about $3.00 a pound and next week I going to slice apples to make apple chips with my food dehydrator. It's ease to clean just be carful the blade is very sharp! I'm thing of getting the ham slicing blade but the one that came with it does a fine job. (Thick, rich yogurt cheese....)
(Perfect) After going through the cheese cloth routine when making my last batch of cheese, this is a Godsend. A few people remarked that it is small, and not much of a reserve...may be true, but I only need to pour off some of the whey after 10 minutes or so..not a really big deal. 2 of these mistakenly went into my shopping cart, but that is ok by me, that way I can get 2 batches done at once..so instead of returning it I am going to keep it. I am really excited to start making lots of cheese. I really wish there was more in the recipe booklet though, but was happy to see a cheesecake recipe without cream cheese(even my yogurt recipe book uses cream cheese in their yogurt cheesecake recipes) This strainer also looks like it would be great for rinsing brined feta cheese too. This whole idea of yogurt cheese is new to me. I haven't really had any and bought this when I had a bit too much wine. I like the concept and the product tastes great. I'd purchase again...wine or no wine - though it is costly for what it is, you could probably make your own easily. This yogurt cheese maker holds 3 cups of yogurt, and overnight will compress it into one cup of yogurt cheese.
I am aware that you can make the cheese using a sieve and cheesecloth, but why when such an awesome tool is available! It is sanitary (sealed lid), compact (approx 5x5x5) and easy to use!
You spoon the yogurt into the container - wait 2-8 hours depending on how thick it is, and spoon it out. Because it seals, if you aren't using it you can use the same container to hold the yogurt cheese you just made.
Now here's the best part! If you are lactose intolerant - all of the lactose is in the whey (the part that drains) and the "curd" or cheese is virtually lactose-free!
It comes with the following awesome recipes to get you started: Banana Cheesecake Maple Cream Topping Lemon Yogurt Cream Tzatiki (a cucumber/garlic dip)
But you can use it in place of anything where you use cottage cheese, sour cream, or ricotta cheese. You can even make your own spreads!
For more ideas on using the cheese you will love making, I suggest 101 Things to Do with Yogurt (101 Things to Do With...).
Have Fun! Making thick, rich yogurt cheese is so easy when using the Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Cheese Maker. To make it really delicious make a batch of yogurt in the Donvier Yogurt maker using whole milk. Add 3 cups of your homemade yogurt to the cheese maker, seal, refrigerate. Overnight you will have the best tasting, thick and rich yogurt cheese. It's so rich you'd think you were eating cream cheese. Fortunately it's good for you too. Spoon a batch of your homemade yogurt cheese into a small bowl then top with honey. Oh so good! Again, healthy too.
High marks for this nifty gadget that truly does work. I bought one of these on Amazon the other day. It works exactly as described. I used ordinary fat-free yogurt to create strained yogurt (or yogurt cheese) in 2 hrs. I only wish they made a bigger model to make more at one time. But this thing is great. Cleans easily, too. R PS--I tried this again, using the cheapest fat-free yogurt I could find. Turned it into thick, creamy fat-free yogurt that wasn't too tart, and tastes as good (or better) than expensive yogurt (fat-free or not!). The Donvier Wave Yogurt Strainer turns 1 cup of yogurt into yogurt cheese, which you can put in a variety of delicious recipes that are low in fat, calories, sodium, cholesterol and lactose. Container seals for storage, as well as during the cheese-making process. Permanent stainless steel mesh strainer. Dishwasher-safe on the top shelf. Includes recipes and instructions. Consisting of a plastic container and a stainless-steel, fine-mesh strainer, this simple unit converts 3 cups of yogurt into 1 cup of thick, creamy yogurt cheese in about 24 hours of refrigeration. (Thickening continues for 24 hours, though a thinner yogurt cheese results in as little as 2 hours.) The yogurt cheese then becomes a healthful, calcium-rich, low-fat alternative to cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, and even whipping cream. It can be used as a spread, in salad dressings, to top baked potatoes, mixed with fruit, and to make cheesecake. The unit works by allowing the whey (liquid) in yogurt to drain away, leaving the curds behind. The container is dishwasher-safe and seals to prevent odor transfer while it's in the refrigerator. Simple instructions and recipes for using yogurt cheese are included.--Fred Brack Rerations < Cuisipro Donvier Yogurt Cheese Maker >

(for home espresso, why would you NOT buy this?!)
(Best $24 i have spent in a long while!) We own the 3 cup version. Enough for two lattes each morning. Like others have said, produces a great cup of coffee, much better than from a drip coffee machine.
Use only fresh ground beans each brew.
To make a latte microwave the milk. Once you hear the pot gurgle it takes about 2 minutes before the coffee is ready.
To make a cappuccino use a Jamie Oliver trick. Warm the milk in a microwave or on the stove, put it into an empty milk container. Shake vigorously. Pour into you coffee cup.
If using a gas stove do not let the flames come over the bottom of the pot or the handle gets hot. If using an electric stove move the pot to the edge of the rings to stop the handle getting hot.
When the outside gets stained bar keepers friend cleans it off with ease. My only advice is to get the 3 cup, or 6 cup Size if you want to share. Easy to use. Easy to clean up (water only). Make a perfect cup your first time. What more can you ask for? Get it and you'll be glad you did. wow! what an amazing stovetop espresso maker. i've been using the 3-cup for a few weeks and my only regret is not having bought this thing sooner.
i've been wanting an espresso maker, but was hesitant to get a big machine because of the associated price and hassle of using one. i'm so glad i finally heard about the moka express. it's easy to use, a snap to clean and DIRT FRICKEN CHEAP compared to even the low-end espresso machines. i think the espresso it makes is awesome. maybe a $2k+ espresso machine might make a slightly better shot, but i can't imagine it being that much better.
now i can enjoy lattes at home, rather than dropping $3-$4 at a coffee shop. just brew and pour into hot microwaved milk. so simple and so GOOD.
just to prevent any confusion, "3-cup" does not mean 3 actual standard cups of coffee! it's more like the amount of shots of espresso it makes. 3-cup makes 3 shots worth of espresso, 6-cup makes 6 shots, etc. I won't rehash what others have said (simple way to make great espresso), but I wanted to put my 2 cents in how much I dig this product Aluminum, stovetop espresso maker produces 6 cups of rich, authentic Italian espresso in just 4-5 minutes.
