Our last kitchen thermometer finally gave out, and the battery could not be replaced. So I decided to splurge, and was rewarded by finding the Thermapen $10-15 cheaper, including shipping. Go to the Thermaworks website to purchase this for $74, any color. A new splash-proof model is out that is $96, so they're discounting the original model.
I knew about this for a few years but kept resisting the relatively high cost. I bought a few "instant" thermometers along the way, but they all failed miserably at being "instant."

You really can't comprehend how useful it is to have such a quick temp reading until you cook with one of these. Like another reviewer said - this would make an incredible gift, because lots of people would love to have this (they may not realize this until they use it a few times), but not many would pay the high price for "just a thermometer."
I have both a standard dial "instant read" and digital thermometer before purchasing this one. Both got the job done but the Thermapen is now the only thermometer I use in the kitchen (my other one is blue The Original Super-Fast Thermapen Instant Read Thermometer (Blue) by Thermoworks). It is easier to insert into whatever meat I am preparing. It leaves a very small hole so less juice run out and the hole is less noticeable. And with its large digital display, I no longer squint at a dial or small digital display when reading the temperature. And its quick and accurate reading makes getting back to cooking or eating that much faster. The auto shutoff helps save the battery life. My old digital thermometer takes tools to change the battery. No tools required to change the battery with the Thermapen.

PROS:
Very fast reading.
Large display.

CONS:
It's expensive (but worth it if you can and wish to afford it).
The replacement battery is a bit difficult to find. I was able to get one from a chain office supply store!

The Thermapen is the most valuable cooking tool I own. Nothing works better to time whatever I am cooking. Cooking by temperature is the best way to make sure everything comes out just right, and nothing measures temperature faster, more accurately and easier than a Thermapen. I give them to my friends for gifts, and it's the best gift they get.

Try one and you'll never go back to the way you cooked before.
Cook's Illustrated has recommended the Thermapen for good reason. Its quick, accurate, and ease of use. Others are easy to use also but I trust Thermapen. I Started smoking meat a couple of years ago and wanted this as part of my tools to make sure the smoked meat was to the correct temp.
This is the original Super-Fast Thermapen in the color red. Originally designed for professional users, the Super-Fast Thermapen is chosen by restaurant chains, health inspectors, quality managers and chefs all over the world. The clever pocket design replaces more costly and bulky handheld thermometers while using the same professional thermocouple technology. The Super-Fast Thermapen displays actual internal food or liquid temperatures in only 3 or 4 seconds. Other thermometers make you wait another 20 seconds or more to catch up to the Thermapen. That's a huge difference in a fast paced commercial kitchen or when you're over a hot grill. If you're cooking an expensive cut of meat you want a perfect outcome. You don't want a slow temperature reading that might be misinterpreted and your meat overcooked. A must-have for the serious cook, restaurants or professional chef. So easy to use! The instrument is switched on by unfolding the probe whereby the display illuminates. Folding the probe back will turn off the unit. The Thermapen will shut itself off automatically after a few minutes if left on. When using, the very tip should be immersed or penetrated to at least 1/8 inch. The plastic housing it not waterproof, so care should be taken when cleaning. It comes with a battery so you can use immediately. Ask about the protective vinyl wallet case or the leather case, sold separately.

I have had my KitchenAid for 14 years and it is my favorite kitchen appliance bar none. I bake a lot so it's been used many more times than I can count and it just keeps on chugging. I did have to replace a beater attachment when the enamel started chipping, but that was after 12 years or so. I just can't say enough good things about my KitchenAid.
This is easy to use and easy to clean. It makes baking so much easier and faster. I love it!
How did I ever make cookies, pizza crust, and angel food cake without this? Since my purchase, I have really taken my cooking up a notch. With my Kitchenaid, I have the confidence to try new things. It makes yummy pizza crust which is something I always bought pre-made before. It mixes my oatmeal cookies in the matter of minutes, while I used to have to mix them by hand, which was tedious and unpleasant. I bought the juicer attachment and started making my own orange juice. When I start canning this summer I'm going to buy the attachment for making applesauce and other food purees. This is the best purchase I've made in years. I love the selection of colors, the red really pops in my dull kitchen! Buy it if you love to cook and bake, and buy it if you don't. It will inspire you to be creative and make meals that you love!

Chicago Metallic Muffin Top pan will make great muffin tops. It is super non-stick. Baked goods slide right out. Clean up is easy and quicker than it takes to tell about it.

Sadly, I didn't purchase this pan to make muffin tops. I purchased this pan (actually, I purchased two) to make gluten free hamburger buns, and it didn't work so well for me for this purpose. I got delicious rolls, but they did not hold their round shape at all. I think the indentions are just too shallow to support the dough/batter as it rises (I used a gluten-free yeast dough). Further, I think the non-stick is so very non-stick that the dough pulled away from the sides as it baked. Since this problem may be only with gluten free dough (and maybe only my recipe), I only took away one star. I hope you have marvelous success with whatever you want to bake in it, because I do recommend the pan.

I will continue to look for 4" cake pans, or perhaps try the English Muffin rings for GF burger buns. I might even try the 5" creme brulee dishes.

I hope my neice wants a muffin top pan (or two)!
Had to try this pan (it matches my muffin top--ha ha!) My only regret is that I didn't order 2. My children like these more than mini muffins now! Clean up is a breeze. If you like to bake this is a great accessory to your collection.
These pans bake evenly and are a breeze to clean! I am glad I bought more than one! The results are delicious!
This is a great pan - I love muffin tops and so does my son. When I used it for the first time it told you to cook them at a lower temperature than you would cook regular muffins - to cook at 325. I did that and the first batch burned pretty good on the bottom. The next go round, I lowered the temperatue and cooked them just a tad bit longer and they were perfect. This is a great pan, but watch your temperature.
What a great way to save on the trips to Paneria for muffin tops!! My kids love these breakfast treats. The pan works so well they can make them for themselves!!!

I've had this timer for about 4 years. It's very cheap and cheaply made. The front cover fell off long ago. The magnet isn't very good, and it's easy to knock off the refrigerator. The battery has to be replaced every 6 months or so. Why four stars? Because it still works! It's taken a serious beating (I'm not very careful in the kitchen), and has outlasted others that I've bought to replace it. Some people have said the beeper isn't loud enough, but it's pretty deafening if you're in the kitchen with it.
I was looking for a small, portable timer like this. Main reason I purchased this one was reading previous reviews; I did not want a very loud timer, just a pleasant but persistant beeper. Shipping costs and packaging a little over-kill for something so small, but I'm very happy with it. Easy to use, easy to take with me. Would get it again, but maybe look more for one locally.
I got a good price on these, so I bought four of them for work. A few months later, they all stopped working. Very cheaply made. Don't waste your money.
If you are looking for a timer that you can hear go off from another room while something is cooking in the kitchen, DON'T BUY THIS ONE! You can barely hear it if you are holding it.
We bought about six of these to time students taking tests. Yes, they measure how much time students have left. That's the good.

The bad? Everything else. The buttons are hard to push. The build quality isn't that great. But the worst part for us is that the little stands on the back break off very easily, so they basically lie flat, with the numbers facing the ceiling, which means students can't see the numbers very easily.

The problem is that plastic parts on the back break because they are too thin. This has happened to just about all of the timers we bought--one by one, they are becoming useless.

And I don't think that these are all that cheap. They're seven bucks or so a pop; you can buy digital watches for less.

This is our first rice cooker. We were never big rice eaters before. When we did eat rice it was the 5 minute microwave kind or those boxed rice side dishes. We now eat rice several times a week. I can't tell you about brown rice or other varieties, but this machine will make white rice like nobodies business.

Here's a simple recipe I made up the other night.

2 cups rice - cook in beef broth if desired
1 can of red beans drained
2 lbs ground beef - browned
5 heaping teaspoons of sofrito tomato base
Salt&pepper to taste

I just purchased one of the Zojirushi ns-zcc10 five cup units, and would like to post my comments in order to help others in their buying decisions.

If I was to rate the product on just the quality of the finished rice/grains, it would rate a six out of five. Everything that has been cooked has been superb, including the steel cut oats we had this morning. The electronics/controls are very easy to use, including the timer/delayed start. The unit does NOT take an extraordinarily long amount of time to cook rice compared to the old Hitachi we had. If you add the time for the 30 minute pre-soak ( which the Zoj does automatically for best quality), normal cooking time, then the 15 minute steam/rest period, they take close to the same time. You can cut out the soak time using the 'quick' function on the menu.

Unfortunately Zojirushi seems to have dropped the ball on a couple items.

The big one is no removable steam vent assembly. I cannot believe that other reviews ( that I could find) of this product did not mention this problem/design flaw.
Since the vent is fixed in the outer lid, it makes it very difficult to clean properly. There is a rubber gasket that seals it to the removable inner lid that has a lip/ledge above, that is especially problematic.
I have been cleaning it with a chopstick wrapped with a damp cloth, but it should be removable to clean under running water at the sink. The manual does not suggest any way to clean the vent, and it DOES get VERY cruddy, especially using the porridge function.

The second gripe I have is the use of aluminum on the otherwise very well designed inner lid. The removable lid itself is head and shoulders above some of the others we looked at, like the Tiger and Sanyo. It pivots in two recesses at the bottom, and snaps in at the top. The outer lid will not even close/lock until the inner lid is in place. But why use aluminum that is going to be scratched, is soft and will oxidize over time? I would have paid a couple of extra bucks to have a stainless steel inner lid.

Given the excellent quality of the rice this unit makes, I would probably buy it again knowing what I know now. But Zojirushi should/could do better in this price range. We bought this over the comparable Tiger brand cooker, but others may choose differently if clean-up ease means more to them.

This was one of the best wedding gifts we got: small, incredibly useful and sturdy!

In short, it cooks rice. Any kind of rice. And will keep it warm for as long as you can imagine (the longest we've left it was 8 hours, and the rice was still perfect when it came out..). It cleans very easily, you can program it to have rice ready for any time (For instance, we often set it for 7am, put the rice and water in before we go to bed, and when its time to go to work, the rice is ready to go!) and it will play a melody as an alarm.

I highly recommend this rice cooker. If ours broke today, we'd replace it tomorrow.
Zojirushi NS-ZCC10 5-1/2-Cup Neuro Fuzzy Rice Cooker and Warmer, Premium White

This unit replaces a "National" rice cooker I purchased 15 years ago. This one looks like it's younger sibling. Neuro Fuzzy logic makes cooking rice so easy. No complaints. I really like the little handles on the pot. Please read the instructions, a cup of rice, their cup is different from a standard measuring cup. If you keep it plugged in, you won't have to worry about the battery.

I imagine most people need to know two things about this mug.

1) It really is a terrific insulator. Your coffee will be hot all morning, and probably into the afternoon with this mug. I have found coffee hot 5 hours after I poured it. Hot.

2) It doesn't leak. Yeah, that's what they promise, but the surprise is that the clever and more importantly well constructed lid does not leak. You could store it upside down in your important files cabinet if you needed to. It's a great mug.

Also, I think it looks cool. It fits my cupholder in my truck. It's easy to clean. Those are all nice too.

I'll keep it short and sweet. This is one of my favorite recent purchases. Bought one in green and one in stainless. This mug will not leak. I tried holding it upside down, on its side, and shaking vigorously. It also keeps my coffee hot for 3+ hours. Everything I could ask for in a travel mug. Looks great too.
I mainly use this spill proof tumbler to keep liquids cold (on a hot day). As a mail carrier on the street for several hours, this is a great mug to refresh your thirst with cold liquids. The main difference between this mug and the TV advertised mug,(besides keeping liquids cold) is it can fit in your personal cooler (standing up) along with the ice packs. That TV advertised mug, is too tall for closing the "cooler" lid. In regards to hot liquids, I'd be very careful about putting excessively hot liquids in this; the cold liquids will work just fine. Another great thing about this tumbler is the push button feature that will keep any liquids from spilling on you as you drink. One last tidbit, if you put a few ice cubes to start, that will keep the liquids cold even longer. Enjoy!!!
Best travel mug I have ever had. Coffee stays hot till its gone. Only problem is getting the top on right so it won't leak but once you do it won't spill at all. I will buy another one.
This is a pretty, sleek and seemingly sturdy mug. Unfortunately, if you try to sip hot tea out of the tiny hole you will get burnt. There is not sufficient venting out of the top to allow steam to escape. I have to use it without the top.

I mostly use my blender to make smoothies (made with ice cubes), and this one does the job very well. My last blender would wouldn't chop the ice cubes completely, and would leave big chunks of ice in my drink. This one has a powerful motor, and chops up ice cubes completely and very quickly. It has only one speed, but I really only need one. I highly recommend this as a durable, high-quality blender.
I had an old Oster blender with a plastic jar that finally begun slowing down. I decided after reading the reviews that this was a good alternative.

Here's why I wish the old blender had not stopped working:

-This is extremely noisy and if you like making your smoothies right after you have just woken up, this is a rude awakening.

-The jar is too narrow - food does not make its way towards the bottom to be chopped without help. Every time I use this, I have to stop and remove the lid, then force the contents towards the bottom, then re-start. Sometimes this works and sometimes I have to add more liquid, beat the jar with my hand, or use a utensil to force the food towards the base.

-When the product is finally finished, if it's too thick, the jar does not easily feed the drink into your cup...oftentimes it goes over the outside of the glass because the pour spout is too narrow.

For the price, I would not purchase this blender again. It looks cool, but does not function like I would expect for a $70 blender.

The Oster Classic Beehive Blender in Chrome has endured many tasks in my kitchen and now work in my daughter's home. Unlike the more contemporary designs in plastic with buttons galore, this is simple to set up and simple to operate. A single switch gives you a couple options and if you don't mind hearing a blender's motor operate and the ingredients churn, I think you'll be as pleased as us with the output. I have a Cuisinart food processor that I've had for almost 30 years and I find this blender to be just as reliable, sturdy, easy to assemble and a breeze to clean. Blending icy products is no problem and at one time, I even used this for making paper. I also like the beehive shape more than boxy blenders. In my opinion, this is the best blender in the price range and I will buy another to replace the one my daughter has prematurely inherited.
This is a noisy blender with a jar base that is difficult to engage properly. The cost is reasonable and so are the results. Wear ear plugs or buy a better machine.

I love this invention! I use this whenever I bring my baby out, so I can drink my cocktail in one hand, and feed baby with the other!
All the parts fit well so there is no leakage and it is a breeze to wash.

I would definitely recommend this for all parents who are weaning their baby!
Great product. Easy to use and clean. I would recommend making sure that the food is as smooth as possible otherwise food will get stuck in the opening. We love it for travel.
I bought this spoon for my nephew. My sister said he just loves it and in fact the intake has increased since she started using this. It;s BPA free unlike the earlier version of this product. No more mess, cleaning is very easy.
I love being able to load this up with pureed food at home, wrap it with a paper towel in a bib, and stuff it in the diaper bag for a trip to the restaurant. True enough- it isn't intended for lumpier foods, but for cereal or jarred fruits and veggies, it works really, really well. Worth the money. Plus, baby recognizes the spoon and bib immediately and starts happy bounces when she sees them!
I absolutely LOVE this thing! I thought it would be one of those "didn't need it, can't believe I bought it" things. But now I wouldn't be without it! I can feed him with one hand ANYWHERE! So much less messy and my nephews love taking turns feeding Ayden. I'm not on stage 3 foods yet, but will be sad to see it go. An interchangable top would be nice. I use store bought foods and all I do is leave a cup out to sit the spoon in sitting up and pour the food right in. Put the lid on and off we go. I actually just sit him on my lap alot and feed him right there with a towel handy to wipe his mouth periodically. We barely need that it's so efficient. I can fit 4oz in it, and sometimes it's hard to get every last drop if it's thicker food, but not even a small problem to me. Every new mommy needs this!!!

I recently began a calorie restriction diet and found after purchasing this scale my estimates for food weight and calorie content was quite low. This scale does everything one needs to correctly measure their food. Additionally it is very easy to use with the detailed included instructions. I highly recommend this scale.
Pros:
1. Pretty accurate
2. It is just not a scale; it has capability to calculate calories given nutritional info
3. Glass plate which is easy to clean

Cons:
1. Too many buttons on the screen. Users have to read through the manual to understand the functionality. It should have been intuitive.
2. Takes time to get used to it.
3. Max weight it can handle = 3kg which means you cannot weight heavier things.

The scale has proven to be a great addition to my diet - it is simple to use - I was up and running in minutes in both modes of operation - i.e.,nutrition info for listed and unlisted foods. I've had another scale which was much harder to use and which broke pretty shortly after purchase - it was perhaps a bit more stylish than this one (but this one is fine looking too) but that is apparently because it wasn't built as well. I don't think you can do better than this scale.
I have nothing but praise and accolades for my new EatSmart scale. I'm diabetic and overweight, but thought that my vision of a serving was pretty close to reality...OOOOPS! Now I weigh the food after using measuring cups, and sometimes, a slightly-rounded "cup" is quite a bit more calories and carbs than I ever thought. My scale sits on my food prep counter at all times, so there's no excuse not to use it all the time.

My only comment is that the data screen is somewhat difficult to see unless positioned "just so" to catch light from above. Highly recommended to all.
The scale works very well. The food book might have listed a few more items that I use, and I need my best reading glasses for the info readout, but otherwise very happy with the product.

Parents both had this type of opener years ago and battery eventually went out so I was glad to find the same brand and type of opener years later. Excellent opener compared to other rechargeable / cordless openers.

I have weak wrists and I wanted a good electric can opener, but I disliked the standard style. I saw this reviewed and highly recommended and decided to give it a try. I love this little gadget! After piercing the can (which as noted in the reviews, is difficult to get the hang of at first) you squeeze the lever and the little guy takes off on its own, opening the can completely with a smoothe edge in the can! As noted, the charger takes up very little counter space, much less than the average electric can opener.
I love this can opener because it is hand held and doesn't take up much counter space.
After struggling with and under-cabinet opener this one is a delight! I still have to 'work' occasionally to get the blade and can in correct position but when I do it just cuts beautifully , even larger cans.
