Bought this block and Victorinox knives to go in it. Great size, nice looking--just what I wanted! I like this block, but it really only has two slots wide enough for Santoku or chef's knives. The other slots are narrower and made more for slicing/carving/bread knives. I have a couple of older and cheaper Chicago Cutlery chef's knives that I store together in the cleaver slot, but they overlap by about 1/4 inch. It is a deep block, meaning it will hold a 9" blade easily. Overall, for the price...it's a great knife block. To get 20 knives and tools on this block, Henckels packs them tight, but it works. Very attractive on the counter, and almost allowed me to empty an entire drawer of knives I need at hand for cooking. To be able to have a Santoku, 3 sizes of Chef's knives, several paring, a cleaver, scissors, wire cutters, and even a cleaver slot is simply fantastic. I replaced my crappy smaller knife block that had vertical slots with this one. All my previous knives (steakknives, kitchen shears and honing steel included) fit perfectly and I was able to add three more chefs knives as well. Takes up quite a bit of counter space in my galley kitchen (as much as a toaster) but is better than shoving knives in a drawer or trying to hang them all on a magnetic bar on the wall. AFTER WEEKS OF LOOKING FOR STORAGE BLOCKS FOR ALL MY KITCHEN KNIVES IN THE LOCAL AND NOT-SO-LOCAL STORES I SPOTTED THIS ONE ON AMAZON.COM. One of the easiest ways to maintain sharp edges on your fine cutlery is to store the knives in a block. An added benefit is that your knives are conveniently ready and waiting for the next time you need to carve a roast or julienne some veggies. We didn't use it as much as I expected and then the battery died. I had to shake it several times to get the display to come back on. But now it works fine. I purchased and reviewed another meat thermometer and gave it one star due to how long it took to come up to temp. I got this Taylor in hopes of much quicker read time, and definitely got what I was looking for. It comes up to temp in about 2-3 seconds (very fast in my book), and the bright blue display with big numbers is easy to read. The design feels solid and sturdy, not cheap, and I like that it's water resistant. If I were to give any criticisms, I don't really like the "Hold" feature and find it pointless. I wish the backlight stayed on all the time and you didn't have to press "hold" for the backlight. But, for the price, this doesn't ruin the 5-star value to me. I don't think you could find a better meat thermometer for this price. I bought this for my husband who wanted a thermometer for when he cooked and grilled. The reviews all said it was the best. And so far we are delighted it has lived up to the reviews. I worried the fork would leach out all the juices but not so. We cooked a turducken on Christmas and of all my other thermometers this was the most accurate. It is a great price as well. This works great as a fork and a meat thermometer. It reads fast and accurate. The fork is quite strong and hold up great even when using it to flip large tri-tips. I use this as my primary BBQ fork now. This was an excellent purchase for the money but you get what you pay for. It takes a while for the screen to display the temperature of the food. It has a cheep feel to it. If you have the money purchase and instant read food thermometer and a seperate fork. But again for the money it does what it is supposed to do, that is why I gave it 4 stars. it also does display in F and C. Every Griller should have a food thermometer, it helps immensly when trying to make sure poultry is safe to eat and so you don't overcook meat. So for what my needs are this product functions well. Note that I say "functions well" and not performs well. There is room for improvement. For what I do in my kitchen I would be willing to buy two "Vidalia Chop Wizards" before I would buy one electric food processor. Despite all of the cons listed below I do like this product and until something better comes out the "Vidalia Chop Wizard" will have a place and use in my kitchen. Pros: This product works faster than chopping and dicing by hand... for me anyway. The price is adequate, but I would not be willing to spend much more. It is way less expensive than those electric food processors with spinning blades that claim to chop and dice. Cons: It is more work to clean this product than it is to clean a knife and cutting board. When cutting soft things like mushrooms it looks just like the commercial. When cutting harder things like onions the "Vidalia Chop Wizard" struggles unless you cut the item to be chopped into smaller pieces. Unless the pieces you are cutting are very small or soft there will be a fairly loud bang when you cut all the way through. Even things like bell peppers are a 50/50 shot if the chopper will have difficulty or not. If you have a child that is a light sleeper this is not the product for you. The other reviews that mention the hinge breaking are true. This is the second "Vidalia Chop Wizard" that I have purchased. My first one broke after about 18 months of at least weekly use. I am not sure if that is a design flaw or just part of normal equipment breakdown. The dicing cutter is a bit bigger than what I would prefer. It is more like a fine chop. However, this did not keep me from buying a second Chop Wizard. I bought this chopper a month ago.Last week I was just chopping the carrot and it broke from the corner and is of no use now.I made a wrong choice. I don't suggest anyone to buy this product. I bought one of those co called easy chop wizard and mine broke today. I knew it would because it takes a lot of force to put the food items through the blades. And this being made of plastic I knew it would just be a matter of time. I did use it for some time because I didn't bother to send it back but there is just NO WAY you can push a whole onion through those blades. The blades are simply not sharp enough and the onion sticks to the blades. And don't even try to forse a tomato through the blades. You'll have soup. And yes, you have to cut the veggies into pieces before you can force it through the blades. And you have to do that with all the veggies you want chopped. The commercial on TV and on the Internet is VERY deceiving. DON'T BUY. I purchased mine from a local store and they had a cheaper one made by Progressive as well. I chose the Wizard for it has two different size chopping girds. I bought this mainly for making my salsa and after reading reviews I knew to cut the tomato before slicing. I cut my roma in half and pressed down only to have it stop on me. I lifted the lid and noticed the thick skin of the roma tomato was stopping me. Easy fix, I now quarter my tomatoes and it works great. The first time I pushed the thing through it made a loud pop when it closed and it scared the cats. I now fold up a kitchen towel and place the chopper on that and it cuts down the noise quite a bit. Chopping onions you still should peel them and slice into½ inch or so sections. Okay, you might say if you have to do all this cutting prep work why get this and the answer is once you push that first chunk of onion or tomato through and see how even and finely chopped it is you will be hooked. I used the bigger blade to chop baby carrots and radishesfor salads and it worked quite well. Another tip is use two hands when chopping and place one of those hands close to the hinge area so there is not too much presser on the hinge and have it crack on you. So far I really enjoy it and it even makes making my salsa kind of fun. I received this product as a Christmas gift a few years ago, and thought it was useless before I even opened the box. I didn't use it for two months, at which time I was going to take it to the Good Will. However, I thought I would give it a try before tossing it. I have been using it to make salsa for 3 years now. The hinge did break as you have probably noted in other posts and pictures, but that was due to high use and putting all of my weight on it to push an onion through. I am purchasing a second one soon, as I have 25 tomato plants in my garden, 15 peppers, 50 onions and I won't make salsa without it. I don't know how many quarts of salsa I made last year, but it really makes everything look so nice and even. Potato salad looks great with perfect squares of potatoes. Incredible!!!! Works great, versatile, sturdy. Quickly became the delight of the party! buy one. We just got ours, and while I cannot talk about reliability or durability yet, I can tell you that it make the first 3 frozen drinks for us perfectly and flawlessly. We have tried several different mixers for our lovely margaritas, but none compare to this one. I love it! It's expensive, but well worth every penny. Follow the recipes and you'll get very good results. Occasionally, I find the drinks not "slushy" enough, but that's easily fixed by shaving extra ice into the pitcher. Also, be careful not to overfill the jar with liquid or you will be wearing your beverage instead of drinking it. My only real criticism is that there does not seem to be an option to purchase an extra pitcher. I would also suggest getting this more powerful version rather than the original. 100 extra watts goes a long way, and it's very powerful. It's pretty entertaining to watch this thing in action, too. Throw some liquid refreshment into the jar and hit the switch. The Margaritaville takes over from there. You can heat water quickly and the automatic shut off prevents the kettle from damage if you forget you have water boiling. It is so good looking you will want to keep it on the counter. The glass is great to keep your pure water....pure. It makes the BEST present. Guys really like it too. Well all electric kettles do the same thing they boil water. This one is glass and my wife thinks its gorgeous. Personally i don't think so but aside from that after 20 usings it still has an odor. I got this kettle as a gift one month ago and have been using it daily since with no problem at all so far. I like it for several reasons, most importantly (1) its elegant looks with transparent glass that let you see the water bubbling and coming to a boil; (2) its rapidity: the water comes to a boil very fast (about 4 minutes for 1 quart), faster than all kettles I owned previously and (3) its quiet operation: the sound it emits is the lowest I've experienced with electric kettles to date. I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because (1) I need to open the lid to make it easier to poor the water (and have to be careful to orient the steam away from me); (2) the automatic shut-down works well but without the traditional 'ring' tone and the light on it is barely noticeable (I reckon these are really minor issues considering how quickly the water comes to a boil) and (3) the manufacturer expressly recommends not using it for anything else than water. I used to heat milk in my old kettle with no problems. I haven't tried with this one yet and am hesitant to do so, as I suspect it can be damaged by cleaning. I did not experience bad tasting water. Purchased this kettle before I read all the reviews below. I agree with all the comments posted. There is an odor, however over time it does go -about 6 months. The most serious issue I believe is the handle coming loose. There are two small screws at the top that has come loose. I have rescrewed these but again they have come loose. This is a serious defect as the handle could dislodge and burn you. While they looked great when we used them, by the end of the party, they had leaked down the counter and onto the floor. I had carefully followed the assembly directions. After I brought them home, I reversed the washers to determine if that would stop the leaking, it did not. I was very disappointed in both the price and the quality. Product is big enough to stop many refills from being a hassle and works vey well. Great design This was GREAT for my son-in-law's college graduation party. No longer do I have to worry about a messy punch bowl with the fear of punch being spilled all over. It is the perfect size for a family get together as well. Make your party easy...get this. We used these for my son's 1st b-day party. I purchased it because they did not look like the normal square beverage dispenser and because they had no writing of "lemonade" or anything on them. It is beautiful and looks expensive. The concept of putting the ice in a separate container at the bottom is genious- keeps the drinks very cold without watering it down. We had drinks out for about 4 hours +. My suggestion is that you put a very tiny drip plate under the spout just "in case" it starts to drip. It beautifully displayed my lemonade and iced tea. I know it will look wonderful with any color drink that is in it. Everyone asked me where I purchased them from. It was a hit. it's a great product for entertaining, however, the plastic spout is very delicate and breaks very easily. Well, he LOVED it. Really easy to use- and from start to finish it takes about 30 seconds for an excellent blended drink (of course, you have to pour your own ingredients). We actually thought about hosting a party the very next night to show it off. In the morning he decided to experiment with a (non-alcoholic) coffee blended drink and he did pour too much liquid and when the shaved ice came down and blended automatically and it did spill over. You just want to make sure you read the directions and think about the fact that ice is going to pour in over your liquid. Just because the glass jar has the little measuring marks doesn't mean you can fill your liquid all the way to the top. Once you get the hang of it (ice consistency vs. ingredients), it works really well! Very fine shaved ice for this price point. We enjoyed it tremendously, and look forward to using it for many years. This machine does a great job and after using it for a couple weeks I will never go back to a normal blender. My wife and I are big fans of frozen drinks in the summer. Here in Houston, it stays warm most of the year. We bought this around X-Mas last year and kick ourselves for not buying it sooner. It now has a surface mounted thermometer on the front of the door at meat level on both the left and right sides, as well as the stock thermometer mounted on the top. I got this for more accurate measurement of the inside temperature right at the meat. It does it's job great, seems calibrated fine. The only issue I have is that it has discolored, but that is because of all the smoke etc. rolling around inside my grill, and not this things fault. I just keep wiping it every time I put it in. When it no longer becomes usable, which I doubt will be for a very long time, I will buy another. Works perfectly. I have not tested the reading but seems to be very accurate from what I know about grilling. A must for a grill that does not have a temp gauge already (Weber Q100). Hello - I've been using this grill surface thermometer for a couple of weeks now. I find it quite useful for mapping out the hot spots on my grill, and picking the best spot for a good sear. Much better than waving my palm over the surface. Don't leave it on the grill all the time though - mine turned black! thing displays temperature accurately, though I made the mistake of putting on the grill when I was scorching the grates, and it left a brown burn mark on the lens. I haven't tried scrubbing out the burn mark since it's still transparent and I can see through it, that, and I'm feeling a bit lazy lately. but other than that, things works fine The Outset F810 Grill Surface Thermometer is a fair product it does measure the heat of your grill but it does not adjust quickly if you move it from one location to the next... most likely because of the high heat it must take. It will let you know which part of your grill is the hottest and coldest, but again it takes a while to read the temp. I felt it was pretty accurate if left in one spot. I also used it to read my different temps for different gas settings. Take the guesswork out of grilling.
