Two friends who worked at coffee distributor companies recommended this. Cold brew coffee is the only way I've made coffee for the past dozen years, except for rare times when I've run out and brew a cup with a Melitta filter. Best taste, no bitterness, less acid. Making a batch is easy, takes little time and is easy to clean up. Then I have 2 to 3 weeks of "instant coffee" that surpasses all. Here are some of my adaptations: * Filters can be reused much more than 10 times, providing you always: 1) use coarse ground coffee, 2) orient the filter the same way every time you use it, dark side toward the grounds and 3) only rinse the filter in reverse, forcing the grounds out the way they came in. * To use a previously used frozen filter, place in small bowl of water for a minute then it easily fits into the top brewing container. * Use 1 lb (or a bit more) of coarse ground coffee (I prefer Mocha Java with some French Roast&Sumatra) * Place all coffee directly on top of filter, no need for extra filters. Slowly add 4 cups of water. * After 5 (or 10 or 20) minutes, slowly add another 3 cups of water. Take care to wet all grounds on the surface. * After another 10 minutes or so, verly slowly add water to the top, about another 2 cups. * Let it sit overnight. You can make it one morning and finish it the next morning. * Carefully lift the brew container with the handle and remove the stopper. It should drain most of the way in about 15-20 minutes then slow to a drip. I usually then put the brew container on top of a coffee cup and pour the decanter into a glass bottle to save in a refrigerator, then replace the brew container on the decanter and let it finish dripping for another hour or so. Tip it occasionally to get the residual liquid to drain. * If not using the coffee every day, pour liquid in ice cube trays and freeze. * When finished, rinse filter as noted above in reverse direction of coffee flow, then place it in a plastic bag and freeze it. * Enjoy a fine cup of coffee.』

The newer ones are much stronger and more secure. That's all I can say in their favor. The fabric of the metal seems different, and much flimsier. The water levels they call for with their internal markings are totally different from the old ones. We use this maker to make regular coffee, using 4 level coffee scoops to a full container of water. This change throws the resultant coffee brew way off, and makes me have to try to attempt to adjust at every use. I just like the older version much better.』

(The Bialetti Buzz) 『I always loved dark, strong coffee and I've always been a lazy dish washer. After a trip to Italy in 2005 I started making coffee in a Napoletana coffee maker. I liked it, but it's a pain in the ass to clean, so I bought a Bialetti. WOW !
The coffee from the Napoletana was very strong and every morning I was drinking the equivalent of 5+ espressos. While I was accustomed to strong coffee, for the first time in my life I would feel a caffeine buzz. I switched to the Bialetti and found it easier to clean and faster to brew. I use what I consider high grade coffee, usually French roast from Trader Joe here in LA.
While the word is to never use detergent to clean the thing, I just have to use some occasionally. The thing is bullet proof except for the gasket. If you can buy a couple extra gaskets when you buy the Bialetti, do so. The gaskets are not widely available and last week when my gasket went, I ended up buying a new maker. Problem is that it's another brand and I don't like it as much as the real deal.
Some words of advice: 1. Be sure that you screw the top on correctly so that the thing doesn't leak. It makes an awful scream on the stove when it does. 2. If you are not used to lots of caffeine, be very careful. These things make coffee at least twice as potent as any other breweing method. I ordered it. I didn't realize I was getting a coffee pot kit. When it arrived the handle wasn't attached. There weren't even any holes drilled for the screw. This could have worked out OK If I wanted to be different and, say... mount the handle on the side. Then I put the lid on the pot and couldn't get it back off with any amount of force. I stopped short of snapping the plastic top off. I had to pry it off with a screwdriver. Needless to say I'm sending it back for a refund. P. S. If you have had better luck with specific blends, bless you, but I think it's not my crappy Karma, but their crummy coffee. Just my two cents; your mileage may vary. When accidentally ground with the beans even one of these contaminating little nasty things will ruin an entire pot of coffee or destroy a cup of cappuccino with their awful taste. As a result, I now sort through the beans before putting them in airtight storage for daily use.

A couple of things you need to know about them.
One. They are somewhat of a pain to fill with water and put into the freezer because the silicone flexes. Two. Trying to get the ice out can also be a pain because of the detail of these ice cube trays. Sometimes they just don't want to come out. Three. The first few ice cubes made will have a slight silicone taste to them.
Other then that these are great to have in your freezer all the time. For when company comes over and you slip some in their drink or just for you and your kids to enjoy.
Pros: Produces fairly large ice cubes so you don't need a lot of them for a single drink. When removed from the mold, looks like perfectly formed teeth. Pretty cheap.
Cons: If using for a party, will require multiple trays to get a fair amount of ice made. Wobbly silicone makes it hard to fill up and place in the freezer, might consider getting a small cookie tray to place them on to make things easier.』
