Both probes read on LL or HH. If I would twist and hold the wire, I would sometimes get a reading, but this was rare. I previously owned a Maveric for several years, and it was great.』
(Good product, has some drawbacks) 『I like this thermometer, and it works. I do wish it was a bit different, though. First off, the actual electronic part is very delicate. I bought one and set it on the stove while it timed a pork roast cooking at 325. The stove top was warm to the touch, but not at all hot. It's just a regular Kenmore flat top electric stove - at only 325 inside, the top really wasn't that hot. It couldn't have been 150 degrees on there. Regardless, the Polder's screen went all wacky and after that, the power button was simply jammed in one position and it wouldn't turn off even after it sat overnight. It was totally dead after that. I sent it back and got another and have been very careful with it so far. I think a thermometer ought to be able to handle mild warmth from normal kitchen use, but the Polder can not. I don't think this design is terribly nice to use, though the basic temp function is fine. I wish there was some way to shut the thing up when I'm setting the custom temperature, which is often because the included temperature presets aren't very useful. As you set the degrees from 175 down to 150, each degree makes a super-loud, alarm-volume squawk. You can't zip through them, so you have sit there pressing the alarm button twenty five times. It woke my roommate up up one time. He thought he better get up and check the stove in case I was burning something. Why does it need to blare that loud with button presses when the user is standing three inches away? Since this is about the cheapest model there is, I guess it's okay. More expensive models must be more durable and less annoying. The magnet on the back is handy, the probes are long and the temperature function does work nicely. Overall, an average product.』
(Problem Probe) 『I feel cheated. The probe did not work even on its first use. I placed the probe in the middle of a brisket I was grilling and within a few minutes the probe read HH. I changed probes and within a few minutes it again read HH. Nowhere in the instruction manuel did it explain what HH means, but it obviously means it doesn't work, because the probe doesn't. I will be requesting a refund.』
(Works well on SMOKER too) 『I purchased this to allow me to monitor both the smoker temperature, and the meat internal temperature. It works great! I didn't notice that the instructions say "don't use on a smoker", until I got it, but since a smoker's temperature is less than around 250 degrees, much less than an oven's, I decided to use it. I have a cylindrical smoker with an electric element in the bottom. I laid one probe on the upper grill, and the other in the center of my meat. It worked perfectly. I was able to control the smoker temperature, and take the meat off when it was perfectly completed. The advantage of this sensor is that you do not need to remove the lid to the smoker to measure the meat, as we all know, that results in loss of heat and fluctuation of temperature.

The newer ones are much stronger and more secure. That's all I can say in their favor. The fabric of the metal seems different, and much flimsier. The water levels they call for with their internal markings are totally different from the old ones. We use this maker to make regular coffee, using 4 level coffee scoops to a full container of water. This change throws the resultant coffee brew way off, and makes me have to try to attempt to adjust at every use. I just like the older version much better.』

(The Bialetti Buzz) 『I always loved dark, strong coffee and I've always been a lazy dish washer. After a trip to Italy in 2005 I started making coffee in a Napoletana coffee maker. I liked it, but it's a pain in the ass to clean, so I bought a Bialetti. WOW !
The coffee from the Napoletana was very strong and every morning I was drinking the equivalent of 5+ espressos. While I was accustomed to strong coffee, for the first time in my life I would feel a caffeine buzz. I switched to the Bialetti and found it easier to clean and faster to brew. I use what I consider high grade coffee, usually French roast from Trader Joe here in LA.
While the word is to never use detergent to clean the thing, I just have to use some occasionally. The thing is bullet proof except for the gasket. If you can buy a couple extra gaskets when you buy the Bialetti, do so. The gaskets are not widely available and last week when my gasket went, I ended up buying a new maker. Problem is that it's another brand and I don't like it as much as the real deal.
Some words of advice: 1. Be sure that you screw the top on correctly so that the thing doesn't leak. It makes an awful scream on the stove when it does. 2. If you are not used to lots of caffeine, be very careful. These things make coffee at least twice as potent as any other breweing method. I do not use the sipper lid to drink from - - but must have it in place in order to seal it. I also do not use the tea infuser. I'm sure it will work great. Because of allergies, I needed a good container for hot Distilled water. It is difficult to find distilled water that is not in plastic bottles, so I desperately needed a good/natural container that would retain the heat. THIS FITS THE BILL! I have used glass bottles, but they lose heat very quickly. My brother had told me he could not find a travel mug that doesn't leak. After loving mine so much; I bought one for him. He loves his too. NO MORE LEAKS! We usually finish the drink within 3 hours, and it is still hot at that time.
I would like to find this without the infuser, and they may sell it with a different name, but I didn't want to take a chance. I read these reviews and knew this was the cup for me.

(The Perfect Commuter's Thermos) 『There are many excellent reviews about this thermos already, so I'll just add a few thoughts. First, I purchased this thermos in 2005 (4 yrs ago) and just purchased an additional one for my husband. This thermos is the best thermos - ever. You can fill it with coffee before you leave the house, travel for 45 minutes, and still end up with piping-hot-burn-your-mouth coffee. Seriously, you have to be careful with this thing because it keeps the contents HOT. The next best thing about this thermos is that it is 100% leak proof. I think I purchased 3 or 4 other similar products before finding this one, but they always leaked. This one can be drop kicked around your car, thrown in your work bag, and still not a drop will leak.

(Small footprint, best little grater, noisy) 『I got one of those in the early 90's as a Christmas gift. It has been the most useful kitchen appliance next to my Braun Multimix. I used the grater cone so much that that it finally fell apart a few weeks ago, and I just bought a replacement "Shooter". Can't do without it. I would have bought just the grater cone as replacement, but couldn't find one for my model number. I hardly never used the slicer (I have a great Chef's knife).
I don't have a lot of kitchen space, and appliances with a small footprint are important. The unit is extremely noisy when it runs, and because I undergo yearly hearing safety training at work, I am very aware of the potential hearing threat. I actually keep a pair of ear-muff-type sound protection hanging in my pantry to use when I run this device. The noise factor is the reason I am not giving this a 5 star rating.』
