I got this flatware set for my daughter who is getting ready to move out to an apartment. I think it was an excellent price and will serve the purpose well. They look great and seem very sturdy. I did some experimenting with it and have come up with the perfect recipe for ice tea. (Georgia style) Disregard the recipe in the booklet though. It only makes about a quart not the 3 quarts promised. Here is my recipe. Put 5 family sized tea bags in the filter. ( 1 family sized tea bag is the size of three regular sized tea bags) Add 1/8th cup sugar to the filter with the tea bags to cut the bitterness, it will not taste sweet. Fill the water tank, put ice in the pitcher to the 2 QTS. mark and start. You will have three quarts of perfect iced tea every time. I purchased this for my son&daughter-in-law when their tea maker quit. I have owned this for 3 years. Makes great tea. Only negative is seam in front of pitcher tends to crack over time and it's actually cheaper to buy a whole new tea maker than replace the pitcher. I used to use the old style tea maker years ago (I was happy with that one). I wanted to try a tea maker again, so I bought this one. The first round of tea was very weak. I put in an additional filter to see if that would help the water brew longer, but it was still weak. I returned it to the store, and this is how I am currently making tea: I use my regular coffee pot (12 cup capacity) with 6-9 bags of tea (depending on how strong I want it). I have a 1 gallon pitcher, and I fill that up with ice. When the tea has finished brewing, I add sugar if I want, then I pour the hot liquid over the ice. It makes the tea cold and ready to drink, plus I have a lot more than just 2-3 quarts. This works just fine for me--I don't have to worry about a cracking pitcher because the glass coffee pot can handle the heat. I also do not have to store an extra base housing unit that really only serves one function. I don't know why I didn't think of this before, but it is essentially the exact same thing that is being done with the tea maker, except you don't have to buy any additional equipment. With Mr Coffee Ice Tea Maker, you never have to wait for a pot to boil again. Set it up (quick and easy), turn it on, and then get on with your other chores. That's right - we've had ours over 12 years, with 2 pitchers, and no cracks or breaks. 3 pitchers of great tea, any kind we like, week in, week out, 12 years. I don't know why other people report cracks, but we love ours and when it dies, we'll buy another. Furthermore, we wash the pitchers in the dishwasher (you're not supposed to), air dry. We probably clean the brewing unit less often than we should, but we do clean it with coffeemaker cleaner or vinegar. We always clean out the steeping "basket" and lid every time we use it, right after brewing. That keeps the tea tasting good and keeps it easy-to-clean. Be nice to it, use plenty of ice like you're supposed to, and don't shove the pitchers up under the built-in fridge icemaker spout, and you'll probably enjoy it as much as we have. I went shopping on amazon.com for knive sharpener and ran across this one that was from Henckel and was only $20.00 or so. I ordered it and it came quickly and works very well. One of my better buys on amazon. After we received our sharpener, I came home at lunch a few days later and went to cut a tomato. The knife slid through the skin like it was a hot knife going through butter. I asked my husband if he had sharpened the knives and he said yes. He said it was really easy to use. All our knives are good quality Henckels so we were particular as to what sharpener we bought. We had originally looked at the Henckel one slot sharpener until I found this model. We were afraid an electric sharpener would widdle away the steel too much. We would recommend this product if you are wanting something easy to use that works well. I never knew how much I would appreciate this little sharpener until I started using it. It has become an important part of my kitchen routine in just a few short weeks. Quickly puts a nice edge on all those knives I was thinking needed professional sharpening. Comfortable to grasp and nice enough to leave out on the counter for instant access. I bought one for myself and another to give to someone. We have a full set of Henckles and needed a good sharpener. This is not the greatest. The product is packaged with a black or white plastic holder and (2) 1.5 volt batteries. Hand wash only. I hate this thing. It worked fine at first, then started getting stuck on a '888.88 degrees' reading every time I turned it on. My dad (electrical engineer) took a look and declared this to be normal (I forget the term he used, but the gist was that it was just a sign the thing was getting power from the batteries before it actually started working) and said I should be more patient. Well... he didn't stick around to see how patient I'd have to be! If I just leave it alone, it sometimes switches to an actual temperature reading after several minutes (which I don't consider a reasonable time to wait) but most typically stays on that display permanently until it's turned off and on again. Or I can try fiddling with the off/on switch - if I can move it just slightly to the middle, I'll sometimes get my temperature reading. That's an extremely fiddly process though, most typically I end up nudging it too far and turning it off and having to wait (and wait) through that stupid test display again. MUCH too much hassle for a stupid thermometer. I only wish I wasn't so cheap that buying a new thermometer while this one is still technically working bothered me... Purchased this item after numerous failures with remote meat thermometers. This model worked well for 3 months, then I pulled it out of the drawer one day and it was dead. New battery didn't help, and now I've gone back to analog. This thermometer is very nice but it has a couple of shortcomings. The material that covers the face will darken if exposed to too much heat. You can't use this in the oven. It isn't exactly instant either but it is quick for testing doneness in several spots. I use it most often to check water temperature when I am baking bread to assure that my yeast is in the optimum range. Oh, don't forget to turn it off! Cheap - switch failed (that is, it broke completely off!) after less than a year of occasional use. Replaced it with another Taylor thermometer, which had its own problems. Will never buy a Taylor thermometer again. Make sure your meat is cooked just right, Every Time you cook. With a digital read thermometer you will know exactly when your meat is perfectly cooked. I have an older one that's showing it's age so I went online looking for a replacement, only to find that many places weren't selling it anymore -- all the sites have the super small one, but noone had this version. I saw it at Amazon, so I bought two of them, in case they stopped making it. Now when my old one dies, I have two back-ups. There were originally three models; a small one, this one (the "Platinum" version), and a "Pro" version that was longer and allowed you to fit like, four chickens at a time. That's overkill, even for me. I originally got this as a christmas gift, and it quickly took over my kitchen as the most-used cooking item aside from my outdoor grill. I cook whole chickens in it all the time, and they come out perfectly every time. Frankly, if you ruin a chicken in this thing, there's something wrong with you. You can leave the chicken in way too long and it still comes out juicy and delicious. It really is amazing. I'll make lemon chicken, barbeque chicken, sometimes I'll salt up a chicken and halfway through, baste it up with some Trappey's Red Devil for a whole chicken, buffalo style. Almost any flavor you like (put it all over the outside as well as dumping some inside) will result in great chicken. Use one of the two supplied baskets for wings -- awesome. I will frequently drop a Rib-eye roast in this thing (did it this week, in fact) with some seasoning all over it (be liberal with the seasoning, a lot of it falls off in the process), and it might be my favorite meal ever. FYI, what I said about leaving chicken in too long is totally true, but it isn't the case with roasts; roasts aren't something you can leave in here too long like you can with chicken, so be aware of the time. There's a lil sticker on the side with a guide to how long stuff takes, and it's pretty accurate; once you do a roast or two, you'll know how long you need to leave it in for based on how you like it. I'll generally dump some water in the drip tray to help keep things moist, no matter what I'm cooking. I don't think I have to do this, but I do it anyway. Also, I'll drop some foil under whatever I'm cooking to make cleaning the drip tray a snap. I used to watch the commercials on TV and snicker a bit, but this thing is just awesome. I've since turned three friends onto it, and they can't live without it either now. Don't even get me started on the accessories. The gloves are completely awesome. Imagine an oven mitt that's all rubber so you can just grab food with it, and when you're done and you want to clean them, just walk over to the sink and wash your hands with them on. Completely sick. The elastic ties are genius also, I use them for tons of stuff. These two accessories alone are worth having even if you don't own the rotisserie (which you should). You can buy them separately online. One thing I've never tried in here are burgers, because I'm adamant that burgers are for the grill. One of my friends was dragging his feet because someone told him this thing is hard to clean, so I'll address that. There are a number of parts with this thing, so I'll break it down. Oven unit itself: Not tough to clean. Just wipe it down with a wet rag every so often to clean up any splatter, and you're good. There's a metal reflector shield that you'll need to clean every so often also, but no big deal. The glass door comes off (careful!) so you can clean it seperately. The spit: The thing that the meat rides on. Not a big deal. Sometimes you need to give the two spikes a good cleaning with an abrasive sponge, but biggie. The drip tray: If you toss in a bit of foil under your meal like I mentioned earlier, SUPER easy. If you don't? Still pretty easy. The baskets: Not gonna lie, it sucks to clean the baskets. I'll fill my sink and soak them while I'm eating, then hit them with a sink brush of some kind. Overall, I'll tell you, I think this thing's maybe a hundred and fifty, two hundred bucks, and it's worth every penny. If you've seen it on TV and wondered, or if you're just looking to make some rotisserie chicken or whatever, buy this WITHOUT FEAR. You'll love it. I highly recommend this machine. My original one I bought direct from Ronco in 1999 was looking a little tattered and decided it was time for a new one. If you like chicken this is the only way you'll ever eat it again. I previously own a showtime deluxe for 8 years but in the process of moving the workman dropped it and broke it. This was the replacement. So far I love it!!!! I love this product but it just doesnt seem to hold up. The first on I purchased I had for over 5 years, they plastic on the bottom just couldnt take the heat. The shell started falling apart and the door kept falling off. The second one I purchased lasted less than 3 years and the heating element went out......what a bummer.
