Let me say this is not the case with this elliptical trainer. In addition, the lack of handle bars or torque bars is not a detriment to this little piece of equipment. In fact if anything it is an asset. After using this for the first time last night it was obvious that the lack of hand grips gave you an added workout in your abdominals. This is probably due to the need to balance oneself more on this equipment. Like I said, I run fairly frequently, so I was not expecting any leg pain from using this equipment. It was obvious, however, that my abdominals also got a workout from this little machine. I noted at least one other reviewer pointing this out and I can definitely confirm their statements.
In addition, I found the bad reviews on the construction of this item to be both fair and yet a little ridiculous. This product is manufactured in China. Not everything is going to be perfect....certainly not as perfect as an elliptical that would cost several hundred dollars. Attention to detail must be applied when assembling this device. If you are putting this together, bite the bullet and break out some of your own tools for assembly. Where as the Allen wrench works well enough, the bolt wrench is a piece of junk. Pay attention to how you put the bolts in by hand so that you do not end up stripping them with your tools. Again, Made in China, attention to detail.
If you can handle all of this, you will LOVE this little workout machine. If not, you probably rated it less than 3 stars.』
(Great little elliptical!) 『This is a great little product to use if you don't have much room and you need a little 20/30 minute workout everyday! It killed my calves the first time I used it and I was running quite a bit before I bought it...I purchased it because I have been having heel/arch pain from running and this little machine 'sort of' takes the place of running for now. Now, I'd rather be on this than out for a jog pounding my knees. The size is perfect. Granted you don't get the full range of motion from a full size elliptical, but I couldn't be happier. I had one minor problem with one of the front pads (it didn't render it inoperable at all), and when I called the company about it, they sent out a new one which arrived in two days. I can stay on this for an hour easily while watching TV, and you do work up a good sweat. Balance has not been an issue. I liked this item so much that I got two more for friends. They love it too. I saw some reviews that talked about the limited range of motion, but we are all about 5'4"-5'6" and it isn't an issue. I'd recommend this for anyone that doesn't want to see a work-out machine in any part of their house. It has a low profile and can be easily hidden. Even if you leave it out (as I do) it's hardly noticeable.』
(perfect 'at your desk' workout machine) 『I bought this to use at the office. The product seems to work pretty well overall. However, while the motion keeps my knees lower, they were still grazing the underside of the desk. After a little trial and error, I came across 2 motions that worked out pretty well. The first was to have my knees point out to the sides and rest the outside of each foot on the elliptical pedal, and pedal that way. The other way I came up with was to put my heels against the front lip of the foot pedal and pedal like a recumbent bike. This way gives me a bit more of a workout and I usually take a break from it after 10 or 15 minutes. Duct taping old insoles to the front lip made this a lot more comfortable on my heel. The machine seems very quiet. Coworkers sitting right next to me can't hear it and its not really noticeable that I'm using it. This is nice because it doesn't reduce the appearance of professionalism in the workplace. And for anyone that might be self conscious, they could use it without worry.
Conservatively, I can probably burn at least 100 calories an hour doing this. So if I only do this for a combined two hours a day, that's 1000 calories a week. In month, I could burn a pound and in a year, thats an extra 12 pounds at least. I've only had it for about a month and I workout regularly in the morning as well. I'm just hoping for a slight bonus with this. That and, with my fidgety nature, I'll use it to some extent just because its there.
With so many people having desk jobs in today's society, for just $100 a person, I'd think this would be a good way for employers to combat obesity and health issues in their staff and possibly even lower their insurance premiums.』
(I'm a Personal Trainer and I Recommend This to All My Clients!!) 『I got this machine for my birthday 6 months ago and I must say whoever came up with the idea for these little ellipticals, steppers, and bike pedals was a genius. I live in a 500 sq. ft. apartment so I don't have room for a big piece of cardio equipment. There are minor drawbacks, but it's amazing for what it is!
It was very easy to assemble. Your range of motion is of course pretty small and also not the smoothest motion, and it does get a little squeaky sometimes. I do like that I can adjust the resistance which makes it easier to get my heart rate up. I do a lot of interval training so the drawback here is that it's awkward (and probably not safe) when I reach down to adjust the resistance while I'm on it. An easier trick I've learned is to set a pair of free weights on the coffee table next to me to pick up occasionally through my workout so I can raise my heart rate. I've also found that if you go down into a squat and pedal quickly you can really up your heart rate and simultaneously work your quads and glutes really hard! Plus this makes the range of motion much smoother. Try it!!
I like that I can get off and it will save my time until I reset it. I can just get back on later and the clock will pick up from where I left off. That's great because it really doesn't matter if you do 30 minutes all at once or if you add time up throughout the day. It's very easy just to squeeze a few minutes in here and there.
Some people may struggle with the lack of something to hold on to for balance. You can always start by setting it up by a wall or something to stabilize yourself. It's actually great for you to challenge your balance when you workout. Being forced to balance will activate more muscles (particularly butt and abs!) and therefore burn more calories. Good balance is also important for injury prevention. If you're not sure of your balance starting out, you may want to work up to going hands-free over time.
This machine is so great to have in my tiny apartment to get on while I'm watching TV and would otherwise just be sitting on my butt. Also perfect for those spare moments when you could easily be adding a little activity to your day. I don't always want to leave home for a workout and this is the perfect solution. Not the world's greatest elliptical or anything, but it meets my top two requirements: small and inexpensive!

It snapped closed in the front, one snap on either side of the transmitter. I ordered the old version because that is what was pictured. They kept sending me this new strap. I sent it back twice. Then I went to a running store and all they had was this one and not the old one. Then a light went off in my head shortly after while on a run that they designed the new one to fit the old transmitter. Duh . . . if only they had put that in the product description. Amazon was really great about me returning the first two straps. So when it hit me that the new version would fit I ordered a new one. I was relieved when it DID actually fit.
It is more comfortable against the skin than the older version. It is also much easier to use since the transmitter is mounted on the strap and the hook that is slightly off center is much easier to use than snapping the strap to the sensor when you want to use it. Over all I think it is a much improved design. The only failing was not making it clear that it replace the original strap and could be used with an older sensor.』

(Long Time Customer - Really Disappointed) 『My experience with this transmitter and the FT80. I have used Polar monitors for years and I can't tell you how disappointed I was when the first "improved" transmitter stopped working. It worked fine for about 10 weeks. Then I started getting readings of 208 before even warming up. I would mess around with the belt and transmitter over and over to make it work - and it would sometimes for about 5 minutes - then back to crazy readings. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, replaced a 10 week old battery - same results. So I bought another transmitter here on Amazon only to have it do exactly the same thing after only 2 weeks. The product is bad because of the transmitter and you cannot use the older models with it so I am back to using my Polar F6 which has been bulletproof (and costs 1/4th as much). Polar - you really need to fix the transmitter problem on the new watches and provide us an alternative to the one flawed transmitter you offer.』
(This is not at Bluetooth device) 『I ordered this to use with the Sports Tracker software used on my Nokia 5800XM cell phone. Polar does not specifically say with what devices either this does or does not work. The package says only "Compatible with Polar products utilizing 5kHz transmission technology." Exactly how many people know this technical specification? This rating is based solely on the fact that this is one of the few companies that does not specifically say what products work with their devices. Shame on me for not completing a thorough internet search that would have shown that other people have also fallen in the same trap. A search on Polar's site shows that Polar says to call Nokia and Nokia says to call Polar? I found a German language Polar site with an actual picture of the belt I need and the transmitter says "Polar for Nokia" and will be available in 2010. Why does Polar USA not simply say "available 2010?" Because the package was impossible to open without the use of scissors, the item is not returnable and I will attempt to sell it to someone who can use this with their Polar watch or with whatever "5kHz transmission technology" it works.』

The previous one still worked even though the little tab pieces broke but I had intermittent problems and I feel it was caused by the possible unsecure connection with those broken tab parts missing. I was also not sure if it would work with my rs400 since it had the new technology but it worked, put it on and first try it quickly got my heart rate. It was a relief cause I was worried it could have been the watch not the strap that was failing to receive proper HR readings. (Nalgene bottles rock!) 『I've been using Nalgene bottles for about 5 yrs now. These are my first BPA-free ones. I drink filtered water (no chlorine) from my bottles and sometimes my old ones got smelly (a faint scent of mold) if I left them out/ someplace warm overnight. I don't know if it's because they're BPA-free now but I've occasionally left my new bottles out overnight and neither of them got stinky(!) Also, I have individual bottle coolers (from Eastern Mountain Sports) so they're always cold. Lastly, I'd recommend the wide-mouth with a splash guard Nalgene Easy Sipperover the narrow-mouth bottle- water in the neck of the narrow-mouth freezes before the rest of it. That's it. (Broke on second use) 『The price is right, but the dial-fit wheel started to slip, and wouldn't tighten properly the second time I used it. That part is very flimsy and not well-designed. The helmet has good cooling. Seems to leave way too much of the back of the head exposed. I understand that the pointy part in the back will keep your head from hitting the ground if you fall backwards. However, if something were to hit you in the lower part of the back of the head - such as a truck mirror for example - there would be nothing to stop it except that flimsy, hard dial-fit buckle. The chin strap fits uncomfortably, if you adjust it to hold the helmet securely. It really digs into that area where your jaw meets your neck. If you loosen it, then the helmet doesn't seem to be on securely. Looks too bulky on my head.』

The helmet has a "web" of hardly noticeable plastic straps that can be tightened or loosened using a discreet dial on the back of the helmet. I haven't been in a crash, so I can't speak for its protection, but I'm confident that the helmet would do its job. My only complaint is that it didn't come with a visor. I needed the block in order to keep the bike stable and level it when I set up the trainer. The CycleOps is simple to use, requires no tools, and is just the right accessory for the trainer. I don't need to do a climbing workout, but if I did, it would be necessary to buy a second CycleOps and stack it on the first one, since the CycleOps only permits one height for the bike. (This isn't clear from the product descriptions. I only learned it when I read the instructions.)』
