(Did not enjoy)
(Eden's Pleasure is Joyfully Reviewed!)
(That should be four-and-a-half stars)
(Review sites) I bought Eden's Pleasure then Antonia's Bargain as soon as I realized it was Gideon's story. These are serious adult stories. Not for the squeemish, but also not for those just looking for something just detailing a string sexual encounters for no other reason than sex. The characters are complex, multifaceted and keep you interested in the progression of their stories. The stories are set in the early 1800's in England. The relationships between the people and the role of sex in relationship are quite believable for that time period. Gideon and his younger twin Gervase share their stories with strong women, Eden and Antonia. I agree with another reviewer, Gideon really appealed to me the most of all the characters. The characters are so well written at times I almost felt like they were real people.
I bought Simply Sexual because it is in part a continuation of these stories. One of the characters with a strong role in Antonia's Bargain, Peter, and two others mentioned, Sara and Valentin. I hope Ms. Pearce will give Peter his own HEA story, outside of HEA with Sara and Valentin. It was not a book I enjoyed in fact I didn't finish reading it and sold it immediately Widowed after eight extremely long years, Eden is finally free to be herself and indulge in sexual escapades forbidden when married to her elderly husband. Who does she turn to but the men who were her downfall eight years ago?
Gideon and Gervaise Harcourt have one weakness and her name is Eden. Caught in a state of undress eight years ago, they are the reason she was forced into matrimony with an older man in order to save her reputation. Now, however, she doesn't care about her reputation. She wants to explore her sexuality in ways not accepted in polite circles. Who better to show her than the Harcourt twins?
This is a novel of awakenings for all three main characters. I thought Eden quite bold, sexy, and brave; especially during this time frame in history when reputations meant everything. Of the twins, Gervaise is the one I love the most. He reinforced my view that love can conquer all. His twin, Gideon, made me shiver with his dark desires and illicitness.
I usually shy away from books written in first person. I am happy to say that Eden's Pleasure held me hostage from the first moment I picked it up until I read the very last word. It has all the elements needed to keep my attention and the sex scenes were extremely well-written. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Pearce! **Talia Ricci for Joyfully Reviewed**
So here's the deal: There are two romance stories in Pleasurable Bargains, one of which features a hero I love in an unholy way. Honestly, the extent of my Gideon love is nigh-infamous.
Here now, I shall attempt to separate Eden's Pleasure (which I liked to a four) and Antonia's Bargain (which I liked to a five, and which starred Gideon, who I love to eleven). Purely for the sake of reviewing.
Eden's Pleasure is a second-chance story. It takes that old historical standby--a patriarchal "thou shalt not have boy/girl of thine dreams, thy shalt marry who I say or Bad Things Will Happen"--and gives it a spicy twist or three. It's written with Ms. Pearce's snap, all fast-moving prose that sizzles, tickles, or saddens on demand. It's a great, engaging read, plausible and steamy and fun.
A caveat: Gideon is yummy. Everyone I've discussed Eden's Pleasure with agrees Gideon is yummy. Gideon is also Not The Hero...that would be his twin, Gervase. Overcome the Gideon yum temporarily and enjoy Gervase and Eden's relationship for its own sake. Erotic romance readers won't regret it.
Antonia's Bargain is, quite frankly, the story that won Ms. Pearce my readership for life. Where Eden and Gervase have to fight their pasts and the machinations of others, Antonia and Gideon blend seamlessly. They are precisely what I'd hoped they might be (but feared no writer could pull off, such was/is my Gideon love) and their relationship unfolds in a real, natural way. Spicier than Eden's Pleasure, perhaps, but absolutely necessary to properly bring these two people together in a realistic way.
It's not possible to discuss these stories without mentioning their sexual content, if only for those readers struggling with the current trends of labeling erotic romance. There is sex. Frequently. Explicitly described, all within the confines of their respective plots. This is not a bodice-ripper historical, wherein a few naughty words are used. These are sexual stories intended for readers who enjoy explicit seduction in their romance. But for our main characters, the sex is not gratuitous, it's merely an extension of how they overcome their conflicts to reach their happily-ever-afters.
Erotically-charged romance, well-written with engaging characters. That's what you'll find in Pleasurable Bargains.
This is one of very few books which I will highly recommend to those who enjoy a very spicy romance read--and yes, they are definitely romances--but will not actually lend out myself. My copy's sacrosanct: it's not leaving my apartment because I'm sure I wouldn't get it back. Reviewer: Rachelle "Fallen Angel Reviews" Rating: 5 Angels
As I sat down to read Antonia's Bargain, Ms. Pearce had two items in her favor right from the beginning: the fact that this story was a historical and knowing I would be exposed to some non-traditional sexual encounters. Then she snared me with Gideon who was confident, a connoisseur of all things sexual yet still saddled with a good deal of vulnerability.
Ms. Pearce was able to design a man who, in spite of his sexual proclivities, made you feel as if no one else in the world existed. Then she took me over the top with Antonia. Gideon's perfect match and equal when it came to intelligence, wit and daring. These two were perfect and Ms. Pearce was able to highlight their every emotion, which made this book topnotch.
A great story for readers like myself who appreciate love full of acceptance, compromise and your `happily ever after on our own terms' relationship.
Reviewer: Francesca Hayne "Just Erotic Romance Reviews" Rating: 5 Stars
After eight years in a horrendous marriage, Eden is ready to experience a little pleasurable freedom. After having been caught in a compromising situation with Gervase Harcourt, she's ready to explore her deepest desires. When Gideon crosses her path to make amends for his part in her disastrous marriage, he promises to teach her the joys of passion. But once Gervase enters the picture, the fantasy of erotic, no strings attached exploration becomes difficult to live with when faced with the reality of her love for him.
This book truly moved me, making me feel an instant connection to the characters and leaving me empowered by the story. I really enjoyed the no-nonsense attitude Eden displays, as well as the compounding emotional turmoil that the situation creates. Any story that can drain me emotionally as well as sexually is rare indeed, and Eden's Pleasure does both. Gervase has a challenging personality that I can't help but feel an attraction to. He knows what he wants and doesn't fail to take what he needs. This take-charge attitude is both desirable and shocking, not to mention devilishly sexy. There isn't a moment in this whole novel that I didn't sense a romantic and loving connection between the characters. They do things together to showcase their love, making their joy seem real. But the sex! Cool me down with a cold shower because these sex scenes are scorching hot. There is a bit of everything here, from sex toys to voyeurism and even a bit of ménage, and the story never slows or becomes dull. Overall, I greatly enjoyed Eden's Pleasure and will be placing Ms. Pearce on my auto buy list.
Eden's Pleasure By Kate Pearce Eight years ago, after a summer of sexual dalliance with Gervase Harcourt and his twin brother Gideon, Eden was forced into marriage. Now widowed and twenty six, she is eager to enjoy her freedom and explore her deepest sexual desires. When she crosses paths with the delectable Harcourt twins again, they offer to make amends for their part in her miserable marriage by fulfilling her sexual fantasies. They introduce her to Madame Desiree's House of Pleasure where any erotic dream can become a reality. She also learns love has its darker side and that for Gideon, not all the fantasies played out at Madame Desiree's are pleasurable. As Eden explores her sensuality she realizes her heart still belongs to Gervase. But is she more than just a sexual plaything to him? Forced to consider another unwanted marriage and convinced that her barren state is why Gervase hasn't offered to marry her, Eden flees from Gervase and the sensual web he's spun around her. But Gervase has learned his own lessons at Madame Desiree's... Antonia's Bargain By Kate Pearce This book is the stand-alone sequel to Eden's Pleasure. Since the suicide of his first wife, Gideon has avoided emotional interactions with women in favor of less emotionally draining liaisons with men. When he unmasks "Anthony" Maxwell and finds he is, in fact, Antonia, he is still sexually intrigued enough to want to bed her. A reluctant heiress, Antonia knows she has to marry but she intends to do it on her own terms her wealth in return for a husband-free bed. Gideon offers to help her infiltrate the world of the ton dressed as a man so she can see her potential suitors in their natural habitat. In return, she agrees to allow him to teach her every trick in his sexual repertoire as long as he doesn't take her virginity. Her fear of marriage and pregnancy is a puzzling barrier that Gideon, despite his exceptional skills, finds difficult to penetrate. As they become more scandalously intimate, he has to decide whether to help Antonia face her fears or walk away from the only woman he believes he could ever love. Rerations < Pleasurable Bargains >

I am not into most of what they write about and this is really a lot of semi violent woman on woman behavior which is not my idea of erotic. Seems like instead of using intelligence and wit they just came up with various objects to use. Kind of debasing. Skip this if you want hot steamy romance and passion.

(Stupid storyline)

(So much more than what I expected!) Wolf Tales
When Alexandria (Xandi) runs off the road she thinks she dreams of having sex while she is unconscious. Yet one man (Stephen) who is hiding from the world because of his magic/wizardry wolf being, has come to really know and love Xandi once they meet and spend the real time together.
Xandi and Stephen decide to go to his old wizard friend (Anton) who put this spell on Stephen to reverse the shapeshifing. Stephen had been dreaming of seeing Anton for the past years. These dreams are more than what you think.
Stephen and Xandi learn of their destiny as being a relative as Chanku, the ability to shift from human to wolf. Anton takes them with open arms. Eventually they all become the running pack they all were destined to be.
There's now blood and some dead men and yet another Chanku woman (Keisha). She does not yet believe she is Chanku until the 3 others go see her to convinse her she is. She eventually goes with the 3 others back to Anton's house.
4 sensual, sexual, human/wolf characters who really become to know each other.
One good book, can't wait to read the rest. Keep'em coming. I'll have to agree with one reviewer. You either love these books (meaning the whole series) or you hate them. Personally, I love them. The whole concept of a shape-shifting race is very intriguing to me. Apparently, all men with Chanku genes are totally hot alpha males. (Now tell me, what's not to love about that!) And the women are the kind of heroines that we'd all really like to be...strong, tough, and sensitive.
This book introduces us to the Chanku in a way that makes you understand what the race is really about (though you learn something new with each book). Stefan, Xandi, Anton, and Keisha were all great, well-rounded characters, and I really enjoyed getting to know them. I think if you give these books a try, you might just like them too. Just keep an open mind when you read, as some things involved are definitely not for the faint hearted. I love erotic books but this book was awful. The storyline was ridiculous i mean it was actually laughable. I hated the names of the characters and i didn't like any of them. The sexual interludes were o.k. in the beginning of the book but then they became really cheesy. In fact the whole book was just so cheesy. Don't waste your time. There are plenty of other erotic books to read, skip this one. Love this book couldn't put it down And I'm now going to order the rest of the books that came after this one and any others that Kate Douglas writes. I want to say thank you Kate your good. OMG..Wolf Tales (WT), you either will hate this book or love it to pieces. I LOVED IT TO PIECES!! If you can manage to put aside your preconcieved notions of what a paranormal romance should be then you will be in wolf tales heaven. This was my first Kate Douglas read and it wasn't my last. I read everything wolf tales I could get my hand on after reading her original WT. I am now anxiously awaiting Sexy Beast IV..salivating is a more apt description actually. My favorites in this series was WT3 Jake and Shannon's story with a heaping helping of the scrumptious Baylor. If you continue with this series you will know these folks intimately.
Not since my foray into the wonderful world of Lora Leigh's Breeds have I been so infatuated with a group of people/beings? Buy this book and take a chance, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT. Welcome To A World Where Nothing Is What It Seems And Every Touch Is EcstasyWhen Alexandria's car goes off the road in a terrible blizzard, she has no idea night will bring a powerful rescuer and the start of an ecstatic sexual awakening. The moment Xandi wakes in Stefan's muscular arms, feels the heat of his body pressing against hers, she feels no fear. Instead, she allows herself to be taken by one who is more than a man, whose primal nature is never far from him. As their connection grows, and as Xandi gradually loses her sensual inhibitions, experiencing pleasures she never dreamed possible, she is drawn deeper into Stefan's mysterious world, meeting the alluring beauty, Keisha, as well as the dominant and sometimes ruthlessly commanding Anton, who can have any man or woman he wants
in any way he wishes

(Hope and Franco)
(Port of Paradise) Lisa Marie Rice is the real deal. I admit, I wasn't anxious to read the story with a foreign hero as the romantic interest, but once I started the book, I was hooked. Rice can write. What's more, she can write suspense, romance, and erotica. Rice has it all, and she delivers in 'Port of Paradise'. I'm keeping my copy. This is a real calgon-take-me-away story. It has suspense, drama, comedy, and romance. Love the romance! The sex scenes are very hot and overall.....this is a great story. Holy hot Italian HUNK!!! Loved this book by Lisa Marie Rice! Will not disappoint, highly recommend if you like erotic romance and a hot hunk of a man as the main stud!! When Hope's friend Kay is the victim of a hit and run Hope drops everything and travels to Italy to help Kay. Hope ends up directing Kay's english school and staying at Kay's home, on the beach, but strange things start happening around the house. She hears voices, notices strange smells and started getting threatening phone calls. When Hope describes some of the happenings to Kay, Kay insists that she contact her friend Franco to see if he can help. The problem is that Hope is terrified of cops. When her stepfather died years ago she was the main suspect and dealt with police hostility for years following the event. When Kay persists, Hope agrees to contact Franco and she finds out he is in one of the english classes. When she goes to interrupt the class she immediately notices the handsome man sitting in the front and prays this is not the Franco that Kay was talking about, but it is. Franco had been trying to talk to Hope ever since she got into town. As a friend of Kay he wanted to make sure everything was going ok with the new school director. When he saw her a few days before, entering the school, he could not believe how incredibly beautiful she was and he new he was going to have to have her. Hope describes what's been going on at Kay's house and they decide to go to the house to have a look around. When they get there Hope notices the door is not locked. Immediately Franco pushes her to the side, tells her to stay put, and enters the house to see what is happening. The house was completely torn apart, but it does not appear that anything was stolen. When Hope sees someone running out the back, she gives chase. Franco cannot believe his eyes. Hope just took off after the suspect and is chasing him down the beach...and she is gaining ground. He takes off after her, not knowing if the suspect is armed. As he draws near he sees the suspect stop, turn around, and aim a gun right at Hope's head. Franco makes a huge leap and tackles Hope into the water right as the gun goes off. As Franco looks up and sees that the suspect is gone he realizes that Hope needs a keeper, and he is just the man for the job. Will Franco be able to help Hope overcome her fear of cops? What will happen when they realize that Kay's hit and run may have something to do with the strange happenings at her home? Read this book and find out.
This was a good plot with modern day situations. The tormented cop/cop weary relationship gave realism to the story the author weaved. Franco and Hope really heated the pages in their journey (my favorite was their tryst in the storage closet at the police headquarters). Lisa Marie Rice does not disappoint. I recommend this book and I will be checking out more from this author. This is an excellent book. I couldn't put it down. The suspense and chemistry between the two main characters make for very quick&easy reading. I look forward to more writing from this author. (I was shockingly disappointed in this book.................)
(Great read)
(Not your mama's (paranormal) historical romance!) Interesting quaracters, very hot scenes. I enjoyed the book. Will become part of my permanent library. Werewolves and vampires and mad scientists - oh my! Interesting world - with some touches you don't find in the average paranormal. It's a keeper. I have m hawke's House of Shadows (Enchantment in Crimson) and that was an interesting read. So I jumped at the chance to get this book. Please, it was not worth the price. This book is awful, I could never care about the male lead, he was boorish, chauvanistic, and treated his love interest like a thing. He was so bad, it was only when I have half way through the book that I understood he was the "good guy"???!!!!! All I can say is save your money, get the House of Shadows instead. I recieved the book last week, and just finished it. I loved it. I am not the reading type, and a book has to grab me within the first couple of pages. This book did just that. I was also surprised. In a good way. I figured it was going to be like a porn. All sex and no story line. I was so wrong. There was just enough sex to steam up the pages, but it had a VERY good story line and with spectacular visual images. This was my first Morgan Hawke piece that I've read, and it sure won't be the last!!! (p.s. who can resist a hot story about a sexy vampire?) Morgan Hawke writes with bite, and I've read everything I can get my hands on by this talented author. If you haven't read any of her previous novels, be aware you are in for a steamy read. This novel may have a historical setting, but it in no way resembles the historical romance novels written by Barbara Cartland. More like an erotic League of Extaordinary Gentlemen. Besides the fact that the two main characters are magical beings, one an American government courier werewolf and the other a European watch-making vampire (and former tsar), the chemistry between the two is white hot. They get kinky, they get rough, they get nasty - not your typical bodice ripper, for which I am exceedingly grateful. Aphrodesia is a publisher known for pushing the limits when it comes to sex, and KOTW is no exception. Oh, and it actually has a plot - a very good one. There's a plague of the walking dead sweeping Europe. Who is their creator? How were/are they created? How can they be stopped? How much does humankind know? All these questions and more will be answered in KOTW. In fact, I think this could be the beginning of a sexy series featuring the otherworldly Senate our couple must report to and their presence among mankind. Rerations < Kiss of the Wolf >

It was hot, erotic and I quite liked the story that went along with it, as well. I would defintely recommend it to any erotica lover (esp. if into BDSM and spanking, etc.) I also liked and would recommend Eager To Please.
Spanking fiction doesn’t get any more detailed, humorous, or genuine than this.
Funny, full of surprises, and always arousing, this brilliant collection of stories centers on innocent, young women who fi nd themselves faced with the delicious, scary, and sensual prospect of a sound, bare-bottom spanking. Each woman is inexorably drawn toward the moment when, bent over lap, desk, or chair, she tremblingly receives the punishment for which her curvaceous backside was so perfectly designed. Included in the collection are the imagined“missing” spanking scenes from the fi lm Gone With the Wind and from Jane Austen’s classic novel Emma.

(Evil never sounded so good...)
(Marquis is a God)
(a woman's pursuit of the libertine lifestyle)
(The mind of an evil genius!) This book is everything said below. It is incredible. It is horrible. I apologize for the cliche, but is like watching the wreck you can't help but look at, and it can hit you hard or bore you to death. More than anything it is the ultimate answer to the question of the effects of surrendering to unlimited excess, not only in the story, but in the structure of the book itself. The characters are demonstrating a life without control, a life of excess (importantly, de Sade recognizes that social class and material wealth are no barrier to such a life), and their actions are chronicled in excess. Strictly speaking, the book can be easily described: 50 pages of libertine sex, followed by 50 pages of philosophy, then 50 of sex, etc etc on and on for over 1000 pages. After about the third repetition you realize de Sade hasn't all that much to say; worth hearing, for sure, but not at such length.By any artistic standard, it is as self-indulgent as the characters in it.
As for the characters, in the end you see that whatever their embrace of excess enabled them to do, it was really rather limited - in the end, all came out the same (partial pun intended). So you see them do the same few (despite the many times de Sade repeats them) things over and over. The people they torment are ciphers, not people, nothing to be identified with, so they all really mean nothing. The final impression of his characters are husks of thorough emptiness.
The repetitive structure of the book has the same effect. A less self-indulgent writer would have cut the book by 90% and included everything de Sade has to say, both philosophically and sexually. As it stands, for whatever combination of fascination and incredulity it may hold, it is a slog to get through - one of those books that you get into and you feel you HAVE to finish rather than WANT to finish.
Nevertheless it gets 5 stars. It is quite frankly not for everybody. It is not for the faint of heart - or stomach - and one must be able to confront the darkest part of oneself. For, as has been noted by others (and is in any case painfully obvious), it is really all about power over others, and that is a side most of us can identify with, even if the means de Sade uses are a bit too much. It exposes the solipsism of the darkest side of the human soul, and takes it to its logical extreme and outcome - the logical outcome of excess.
P.S. to those who find this review excessive, I apologize. :) 1200 pages. Its been said that actually reading Sade from cover to cover like you would an `ordinary' novel is a test of one's mental and even physical endurance. The seeming endless catalog of escalating violence and perversion in a series of episodes so outrageously obscene they begin to border on the comic, so obsessively repetitious they become mind-numbing is said to make *Juliette* virtually unreadable. It took me two-and-a-half weeks to finish this marathon of horrors and Im delighted to report it wasn't nearly as grueling as advertised.
What often goes unremarked is that Sade is a surprisingly funny writer. Yes, funny. It's hard not to miss the hyperbolic parody of much of *Juliette,* although many do, especially those who haven't read Sade in his entirety or in context. The prudish, those easily offended, they'll have a hard time finding anything to laugh about here, too. Sade is a literary shock-jock. But what's also surprising is how many of Sade's social positions are not only quintessentially "enlightened," but serve as the very foundation of a considerable amount of "liberal" thought. Sade is pro-choice, against capital punishment, a champion of homosexuality, free love, and feminism, a fierce enemy of monarchy and the Church and all forms of fundamentalism--he envisions a society of liberated men and women pursuing their individual happiness outside the moral censure of both the majority and the minority. Sade could, in fact, be considered the grandpappy of our me-first, me-only age.
Of course, Sade carries his radical position of extreme personal freedom to its logical end--in rape, theft, and murder. And, perhaps, the most overlooked aspect of Sade is that his philosophy of mayhem is |
