(Didn't care for it.)

(From J. Kaye's Book Blog)

(Slow starting, but vibrant finish)

(Nicholas: The Lords of Satyr)

(Nicholas and Jane)
I have to agree with the other reviewers who mentioned a coldness to this book. I didn't connect with any of the characters so it was hard to care when negative things happened to them.

That said, my biggest pet peeve is that Nicholas tells his wife that if she's ever unfaithful to him, he will divorce her. Then he promptly runs off to his mistresses and spends hours having sex with them. Then he changes his mind and forces his wife to have sex with both of his brothers "for her protection" even though she really doesn't want to. Properly written, sharing can be hot. This wasn't.

I saw this cover on MySpace. Do I need to say more? On the front cover of NICHOLAS: THE LORDS OF SATYR, it has "Highly erotic..." The back comes with a warning label. What more did I need? So imagine my surprise when it took forever to get to the "sexually explicit" part. And before you think I've become tainted by too much erotica fiction, I can count the number on one hand.

Don't get me wrong. The book was good, great in fact, but it didn't have the "HOT" scenes like TEMPTED by Megan Hart, COLTERS' WOMAN by Maya Banks, or WILD WILD WEST by Charlene Teglia. For some readers, this might be a good thing. I just thought the publisher overstated the "This is a REALLY HOT book."

If I had to classify this, I'd list it under fantasy paranormal. But since Jane didn't know she was part fey and Nicholas kept his identity well guarded, it had more of a historical feel to it.

NICHOLAS is part of The Lords of Satyr Series. The next book is RAINE, which I have on the shelf already and look forward to reading it. I loved the author's writing style. So much so, that I neglected all the other books I've been reading to finish it. LYON, the third book, will be published in August of 2008.

Although this book gets a 5-star rating, I am betting the next book is even better.

I found Nicholas a slow read at first. I had to suffer through the proper English sections to get to the meat of the book. In the end, I found it rather exciting and I will continue with reading teh next book in the series "Raine".
I bought the first book in the series and I will recommend no one else waste their money on something that deals with strange sexual exploits and is equally as poorly written and the sorry strange plot the story follows. Recommendations for this book, it makes a great fire starter. Please don't waste your money.
Ok, I am not going to go into detail. I see this has been done already.
Nicholas and his brothers (half human/half satyr) are ordered by the king of Elseworld to find and marry his illegitimate daughters (who are half human/half fairie) because they may be in mortal danger so the author has decided on 3 tales, one for each brother and his pursuit of his own girl. This is Nicholas's story. On Nicholas's hunt he first mistakes one girl for his bride because she smelled of faerie magic. Nicholas takes the girl to see a furtune teller, only to be surprised to find that the fortune teller (in age altering costume) is his true conquest, Jane. Determined to fulfill his duty he sets up a meeting with his lawyer and her guardians for a speedy marriage so he can return to his home. After quick, and brutally honest, negotiations they are married and off to Nick's home.
Once home Nick is more than pleased with his new wife. He expects no more of her than to bear his touch so she can have his children. But when Jane realizes that Nick has mistresses she confronts him. Once more Nick is brutally honest, he will either continue with his mistrisses, or she is to take their place (in all circumstances). While finding the idea daunting, Jane agrees because she does not want Nick in the arms of other women. Together the passions rise and spark. Can Jane handle what Nick dishes out? Will Nick reveal what happens to the Satyr when the full moon comes? How will he keep her safe from the mortal danger her real father disclosed in the letter? Read this book and see how this all comes together.

I want to start off by saying I have not been impressed with Aphrodisia books in the past. I have considered them more FANTASY PORN genre then romance/erotica genre.
Well, the bar has risen with this book. I thought the story was compelling, the characters indepth and believable...not to mention it was HOT erotica. But it wasn't too much, it more or less built up to the steamy pages which we all know, the journey is half the pleasure. I was a little thrown off by the physical changes that overcome the Satyr during the full moon, but luckily the story was not too focused on those changes so it did not alter my overall rating too much. I would recommend this book and I will be checking out Raine's story.

Congrats Aphrodisia, you have done well with this one.

In the heart of Tuscany's centuries-old wine country, three half-Satyr brothers receive a letter that sends them in search of three endangered half-Faerie brides. The daughters of a dying king, they present a unique opportunity for the wealthy, charismatic Lords of Satyr to beget heirs to inherit their Italian vineyard and ancient secrets.......... For not just any woman will do as a Satyr wife. Each month at Moonful, the brothers change physically, becoming more powerfully potent. They're driven by the darker side of their natures to indulge in a nightlong ritual in a sacred gathering place ringed with statues of Bacchus, nymphs, dryads, and fauns........... Eldest brother Nick considers it his duty to sire heirs. But he prefers to keep his conjugal visits to Jane, his new FaerieBlend wife, proper while engaging in more carnal activities with experienced courtesans........... Unaware that she's half-Faerie, Jane is desperate to rid herself of the terrible abilities she acquired when she turned thirteen. Only then will she bear Nick's children and find a true home with him. Until then, she must deceive him........... As the grapevines begin to bloom, an ancient cult hatches plans that could destroy Nick and Jane's blossoming happiness.

(Sarah's Seduction)

(If your looking for a Menage...)

(Better than Book 1, but not by much)

(Men Of August)

(Wild and very memorable erotica, but the story was lacking.)
This story is just as steamy as many of Lora Leigh's other adventures. From start to finish, you entangled and snared into the world of the Men of August series. The characters are strong the story line is both suspenseful and anticipatory with twist and turns of the events in process.
This is the second story in the Men of August series. This is about Brock and Sarah. This one to me was a little bit more believable at how much Sarah wanted Brock, but not her brothers. In the end it was pretty much if you want me, you have to have my brothers to. I know being in a relationship is about give and take, but man that is a biggy. I did like this one the best out of all, Sarah seemed to have a little bit more of a back bone than the others. Yes it continues with creepy bad guys, and yes she gives in for her man to be with his brothers, but I think Ms. Leigh also shows a side to these ladies how they deep down want to experiment with their own sexuality and try this. Over all hot and sexy, and really that is why we buy an erotic book. Keep the fan on high!!!
This installment was better than Book 1, Marly's Choice, but not by much. I was glad to see that the reasoning behind the August Brother's choices sexually were explained a bit. It made the hero's (Cade, Brock&Sam) a bit more likeable. But the heroine, Sarah, was just plain annoying. It was really hard at times to hope that Brock would be successful in his seduction. But, like with Marly's Choice, there are enough unanswered questions that I have no choice but to forge on to Heather's Gift.
I have read all the books for the Men Of August series and I love them all . I really liked the story line and I loved the characters . All the books deal with the love of family and what 3 brothers will do to reamain close after a very tragic event takes place that can drive them apart If you decide to read "Sarahs Seduction" then you might want to read "Marly's Choice" first this is book 1 and "Heather's Gift" is book 3 . If you buy 1 you might as well buy all 3 Because after you read the first one you will be hooked .
Three brothers had been abused when in their teens. The torture caused them to lose their brotherly bonds. (Caution: There is torture and sexual abuse in the book.) Now, the only way they can feel partially healed and calmed down from the nightmares is to share a woman in bed. Marly has been in love with Cade and has been having sex with all three brothers for years. This story is mostly about Brock who has fallen in love with Sarah and wants her to join their family and do the same thing. Most of the book is about Sarah's reluctance to be shared with the brothers and to share Brock with Marly. This same conflict continued through most of the book, which became tedious. I would have preferred not dragging out this conflict so long. Sarah was not very smart or rational in some of her actions, which took away from the story. If you're just looking for "wow" erotica and don't mind a slightly annoying story, then you might like this. There is a stalker threatening to kill the brothers and women, who is still on the loose at the end of this book. There are four books in the "Men of August" series. This was book 2. I assume books 3 and 4 may finish the stalker part of the story.

Sexual language: erotic. Number of sex scenes: at least sixteen, many lasting several pages. Setting: current day small ranching town in U.S. called Madison. Copyright: 2003. Genre: erotic romance.

For a listing of my reviews of other Lora Leigh books, see my 4 star review of "Tempting the Beast" posted on 6/30/08.

(Didn't receive my book)

(Can I give this less than one star?)

(good but not what I was anticipating)

(Repetitive)

(Hmmmm.....)
I bought the sex chronicles and never received it. i contacted the person who was to ship it to me and i got no response. i'm seeking a full refund.
I got this as a gift (White Elephant type). I reviewed it on Amazon that very day, and they wouldn't publish my review. Let me try to be more delicate this time...

Gaaak. This author sucks. Terrible, brainless untalented garbage.

Zane definitely has a way of turning up the heat with her words and erotic stories but not knowing about this book other than is was erotic based, I thought it was more of a novel or one story in whole.. when its actually many many short stories 3-5 pages or so each of different couples, scenarios, and after a while it became repetitive to where I could anticipate what she was going to write... i much prefer E.Lynn Harris or Carl Weber or Eric Jerome Dickey style books. This book is good for a quick read of a few pages to get you going, mentally or physically.
This book is horribly explicit. It's not vulgar in the way most erotica books are. It's vulgar to the point were it becomes nasty. I read the first four stories that are in the first section and they became redundant. First of all, the stories are only about 4-5 pages long and they elaborate on the sex and then rush through all other aspects of the story.

The main plots of each story are exactly the same. Instead of mixing up the sexual experiences, the characters are basically having sex in the same way but in different scenarios. Please...if you want to read this book, borrow it. DON'T BUY IT!

After the 3rd story, I put the book down. Sorry, just seems like the same soft porn stuff...
From a bold and captivating voice comes a collection of stories that probes women's darkest passions and pushes the boundaries of erotic fiction. Sometimes romantic, sometimes raw, Zane appeals to men and women alike with these tales of intoxicating sensuality.

THESexCHRONICLES

SHATTERING THE MYTH

Anyone who thinks that men are by nature more sexual than women or that African-American women are especially inhibited hasn't read Zane. Here, she presents an erotic read in three parts:Wild, Wilder, andOff Da Damn Hook. With a unique ability to tell it like it is -- and also to tell it like it could be in your wildest dreams -- Zane crafts stories about everyone from the sensual housewife who wants her husband to experiment more to a secret underground sorority of women that organizes some rather unconventional social events. By turns tender and outrageous,The Sex Chroniclesis a pleasure from beginning to end.

(I'm Addicted too!)

(Zane, addicted)

(Someone didn't graduate from school)

(Nasty!!!!!)

(Love it authour never lets me down)
This by far has been one of the best books that I have ever read! I have brought a couple of Zane books, so this one had to be added to my collection also. And it was worth every penny. Not only have I read it twice, I have also suggested it to friends. Some may feel that this story could never become realistic, but I strongly disagree. I have been there before in a past relationship where I'm stuck, lost, and in need of special attention. So I felt Zoe's pain. With that being said, Zane, keep up the good work!
I really enjoyed this book. She's is an author that can keep you reading.
I don't know how in the world anyone rated this trash as a good book at five stars. It's not even well written. There are other authors that are actual writers. First of all when you write you should do research. It's obviously that Zane didn't do any type of research. She didn't bother about checking to see what type of slang the teens used in the era she had mentioned. She didn't bother to talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist about sex addiction. I doubt if either one would be able to diagnosis a patient on the first visit. And there are other examples. You have to make the reader believe even if it's a fiction. Someone commented that any eighth grader could've written this. I think an eighth grader would do a much better job. When she was hypnotize and told what happened in her past, nothing really happened. She was not molested as a child or abused but what happened made her become addicted to sex. Come on people, this doesn't even sound realistic. This isn't even a good fiction. Then once she came out of her hypnotic state they were staring at her like she said something unbelievable. Again...what type of novels do you people read? Or should I ask what is your education level....third grade. Also, she had too much going on, too many plots. I did better when I was in high school and had to write stories. This really doesn't even deserve a star. But the star is for how much money she's getting for this. We have some outstanding authors. Toni Morrison, Eric J. Dickey, Terry McMillian to only name a few. If you don't like what they've written, you have to admit they are excellent writers. Zane doesn't really know how to write and she writes trash and you think it is good literature because it's trashy. Unbelievable. Harlequin romance novels are better written then this book and I don't even like those books.
A friend of my 15-year-old daughter recommended this book to her. I was just about to order it when I decided to read the excerpts. I thank the Lord God that I did. What I read was disgusting!!! Just flat out NASTY!!! Ironically, the girl that suggested this book to my daughter is her 17-year-old, 7-month-pregnant, eleventh-grade friend. Hmmm...!!!
I love Zane and her books always well written and full of great stories. I just have one question when is it is what it is shame on it all 2 finally going to be released?
For successful African-American businesswoman Zoe Reynard, finding the pleasure she wants, the way she wants it, is not worth the risk of losing everything she has: marriage to the man she has loved since childhood, a thriving company, three wonderful children. But Zoe feels helpless in the grip of an overpowering addiction...to sex.

Finding a compassionate woman therapist to help her, Zoe finally summons the courage to tell her torrid story, a tale of guilt and desire as shocking as it is compelling. From the sensitive artist with whom she spends stolen hours on rumpled sheets to the rough and violent man who draws her toward destruction,Zoe is a woman desperately searching for fulfillment -- and something darker, deeper, and perhaps deadly. As her life spins out of control and her sexual escapades carry her toward a dangerous choice, Zoe is racing against time to uncover the source of her "fatal attraction" -- as chilling secrets tumble forth from the recesses of a woman's mind, and perilous temptations lead toward a climax that can threaten her sanity, her marriage...and her life.

(Ok I guess)

(Delve deep into breed life with Jacob's story)

(Missing something)

(More plot--a little less sex!)

(21st Century Woman)
I had a little trouble getting into this one. I'm a fan of all Leigh's breed books but this one didnt seem to have to much of a plot. I felt like I was reading a porn which is ok to a point. Toward the end I found myself skipping over scenes because it was just to much.
I am not going to go into detail, I see this has been done quite well.
I really enjoyed this book. Lora weaves a tail of believable characters with her breed books and Jacob is no exception. He is alpha, forgoing any formalities to protect his mate-whether she likes it or not. But Faith is not going to take this lying down, literally or figuratively. Read this book and find out what happens when alpha and stubborness collide.
This book was a great addition to Lora's breed books, it is imaginative, original, compelling and enthralling. I believe the way Lora's mixes erotica and romance is very well done, not alot of authors can do this.
I recommend this book.

Kudos Lora, keep them coming.

Can't say I loved this book, not up to this author's usual standards. Tried too hard with the emotional storyline that just fell short. The hot language that I usally enjoy left me cold as it seem out of place. I just did not enjoy this, if fact, I put in down several times. That has never happened with a Lora Leigh breed series book.
Can't actually believe I'm writing this--usually I'm saying where is the romance--how about another love scene--but it isn't so much that there was too much sex--as there was not enough plot...

The actually plot itself could have been written in 3 or less chapters--all the rest is Jacob and Faith screwing--and I mean screwing their brains out......

I do like the epilog at the end, it really got me ready for Aidan's Charity....

This is a refreshing detour from the other Breeds stories involving an Alpha Breed male and human female. Here we have two Breeds. The sex scenes are hot and erotic. The verbal sparing keeps you entertained because no Breed female should just lay down and fall for her mate after suffering years with the 'Mating Heat." This book was so hot I read it at least 3 times within 3 days before I went searching for my next Breed fix.
Book 2 in the Wold Breeds series They are a new breed, a new race. Engineered rather than born, trained rather than raised, and their unique genetics have created more than one surprise... (This Book Ain't Bad for a Love Story)
"Lady Chatterly's Lover" is one of the most (brutally) honest portrayals of love and intimacy in 20th century literature. Turning away from the flowery and the poetic sentiments of many other writers, Lawrence completely de-romanticizes romance and shows it as something visceral and almost beastial. Written during the span between the first and second World Wars, when industrialization and mechanization seemed to threaten the essence of humanity, Constance Chatterly can, I think, be seen as an Every-Wo/man character searching for intimacy in a society that was increasingly cold and cerebral. Is it possible to love someone when you are alienated from everyone around you? Can you feel passion when you are nothing more than a cog in the gears of some great machine? These are the central questions asked by Lawrence in this novel and of course they are still relevant today.

While "Chatterly" may not be considered Lawrence's best work, it is still a great book and definitely worth reading. Of course, this novel has flaws - notably the characterization of Mellors, and also the very abrupt ending - but Lawrence's beautiful language (minus the various 4 letter words that appear throughout the text) and his keen understanding of humanity make this work really great. Read this book and consider the romantic relationships in your life and I'm sure you will have a lot to think about.

"She saw the clumsy breeches slipping down over the pure, delicate, white loins, the bones showing a little, and the sense of aloneness, of a creature purely alone, overwhelmed her. Perfect, white, solitary nudity of a creature that lives alone, and inwardly alone. And beyond that, a certain beauty of a pure creature. Not the stuff of beauty, not even the body of beauty, but a lambency, the warm, white flame of a single life, revealing itself in contours that one might touch: a body!"

Oh...my...God!!! Speechless, stunned, drooling, floored.

On the whole, I would say that this book is considered a classic mostly because of its legendary troubles with the censors. Don't get me wrong - it was an alright book, interesting enough to hold my attention for the most part. However, I don't think that I'll be recommending it any time soon.

First off, I agree with the other commenters about Lawrence's basic lack of knowledge about female anatomy. My god. It's as if there's nothing at all that Clifford could have done for Connie. And apparently Connie is (in Lawrence's eyes) the apex of womanhood because she's one of the (very) few who can reach climax without any clitoral stimulation. Jesus christ, this isn't a book about sex. It's a book about misinformation!

Aside from that, what do we have?

We have Connie, who's barely sympathetic as a protagonist. I'd put her somewhere between Emma Bovary and Anna Karenina on the sympathy scale. On the one hand, who can't sympathize with her situation? She's trapped in an essentially joyless life. On the other hand, she's also a terrible snob. Witness the way that she looks down on the people of Tevershall - "Oh, everything is good and beautiful in Ye Olde English Woode where I screw my husband's gamekeeper, but that dirty dirty little town with all those hunched-over people who work for a living... how disgusting!"

And then we've got Mellors, who, quite frankly, I found kinda annoying. Is it just me, or does he come off as somewhat mentally deficient? Whenever he lapsed into "broad," I always imagined him talking like some kind of Scottish version of Cookie Monster.

And the ranting, oh my god, the ranting. Ok, Lawrence, we GET IT. Mellors is supposed to be the Man O' The Woods. The Green Man. The Great Horned God. Pan. But did you really have to spell it out for us in heavy handed sermons before and after every sex scene? Couldn't you have left just a little for us to figure out for ourselves?

Really, the only character who I kinda liked was Clifford. Sure, he was pathetic. But he knew it. He knew that he was, quite literally, the last of a dying breed. At the same time, though, he had a detached sort of irony, and that great British gift of understatement. You got the feeling that he was smart, and maybe even had a sense of humor. Who knows, perhaps this character would have seemed more terrifying back in the day, back when the British aristocracy was still kind of a threat to someone.

Oh yeah, and that one scene where we're really supposed to hate him? The one where his wheelchair gets stuck up on the hill? I actually felt kinda sorry for him there.

Ultimately, I'll say this about Lady Chatterly's Lover - I like what Lawrence was trying to do, but I don't really feel like he pulled it off. He makes some valid points about getting in touch with our physical, emotional, and spiritual natures. However, this gets obscured by some of his personal prejudices, as well as his total lack of understanding about women and their anatomy.

I wasted my money and time on this book. It was a painful read. It was boring, dry and not very entertaining. How in the world did this book get turned into a movie. I hope the movie is a lot better than the book. I will find out.
I picked up Lady Chatterley's Lover (Barnes&Noble Classics Series) (Barnes&Noble Classics) from Amazon for $6.95. In the absence of an available Everyman's Cloth Edition, the B&N is likely the way to go. In terms of supplemental material it is quite comparable to this: (Lady Chatterley's Lover (Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition)). These materials are:
1. Brief Author bioptic
2. Chronology
3. A lengthy (23 pages) and diverse Introduction by Susan Ostrov Weisser, a well credentialed professor of English at Adelphi University (NY).
4. Brief footnotes to explain slang / obscure terms
5. Thorough Endnotes for references (9 pages)
6. Brief comments by thirteen well known writers.
7. Four provoking discussion questions
8. Bibliography for further reading.

The novel centers on the Love affair of the Aristocratic Constance Chatterley. Unique at the time it was released, Lawrence's book, rather than condemning the extra-marital affair, Lady Chatterley and her lover, the groundskeeper Mellors, are in fact spiritually healed from their experience together. In an increasingly industrialized and uniform world, laden with class lines and arbitrary social norms; Lawrence holds that people have become alienated from and ashamed of their bodies; they've forgotten that love between two individuals can spark a sensation of life so primordial that it cannot but be right to pursue.

Originally deemed pornographic, Lady Chatterley's Lover may still shock some readers with its frank portrayal of sexual intercourse. The sex-language is much more apparent than it is in Sons and Lovers. Readers who have aversions to seeing words for body parts may be offended. It is all done in good taste, but still must be called R-rated. Likely, it will be offensive to only a small few.

Lawrence's writing style consistently flows at a level near perfect. Sometimes there are certain phrases that frequently get repeated; some would say too often, others would point out that this is also the case in real life. I find his prose to be perhaps his ultimate strength.

One complaint I have with this book as well as Sons and Lovers, (though it might be deemed trivial) would be his selection of topics. He's always writing about love and relationships. I guess I just prefer topics like Crime, War, Travel, and other general areas of life. Just me though. Still--quite surprisingly--I enjoyed reading Lady Chatterly. Its frank display of love makes it relevant today; while other older novels avoid the actual act as if it were the plague.

I find much truth is contained in Lawrence's philosophy about primal instincts, his observations about industrialism, and his suggestions (however one may interpret them) about feminism (a great discussion point for this, his last, book).

Lady Chatterley’s Loverwas the subject of one of the most infamous trials of the 20th century when its publisher, Penguin, was prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act. Finally, after testimony from expert witnesses for the defense, including E. M. Forster, Penguin was acquitted and permitted to publish the novel in 1960. It quickly became a bestseller, largely on account of its explicit sex scenes and liberal use of four-letter words. Nearly 50 years later the sex scenes are still graphic, even by today’s standards, but the book is now read for its brilliant portrayal of the tenuous relationship between the nobility and the working class. Explicit, romantic, and emotional,Lady Chatterley’s Loveris a tour-de-force, a passionate embrace of life itself. Emilia Fox reads with energy and feeling, further enhancing the narrative and extracting every bit of nuance and subtlety within the text.

Perhaps the most famous of Lawrence's novels, the 1928Lady Chatterley's Loveris no longer distinguished for the once-shockingly explicit treatment of its subject matter--the adulterous affair between a sexually unfulfilled upper-class married woman and the game keeper who works for the estate owned by her wheelchaired husband. Now that we're used to reading about sex, and seeing it in the movies, it's apparent that the novel is memorable for better reasons: namely, that Lawrence was a masterful and lyrical writer, whose story takes us bodily into the world of its characters.
