I found the story to be a fascinating glimpse into the ancient world with its rituals and customs. Some of the rituals however were a bit too graphic and un-necessary but I don't want to spoil anything by saying too much. Although you don't have to read Reflections in the Nile first, I would suggest that you do only to get a better understanding of the characters and their motivations.』
(Pre-History of the World's Favorite Mystery Island) 『Frank develops a story around the history and legends of Atlantis. She ties together various threads of pre-history and early history, including Egypt, pre-classical Greek civilization and proto-Hebrew culture.
She sets the book in the time of the Great Famine, when the biblical story places Joseph the son of Jacob in Egypt as the Prime Minister. She reckons the pharaoh of that period as Senwosret III, the last king before the Hyksos dynasty established by invaders from the East. Frank weaves a story of cultural and language history that is exciting and stimulating, as well as vivid in bringing out the strange, erotic, profligate and idolatrous character of the early Hellenic peoples.
Her motif is the real society from which the later Olympian myths of the Greek gods developed. This is a fascinating aspect of the story as she portrays how the pagan, superstitious culture of a real, understandable people trying to deal with a precarous natural setting became legendary due to the destruction of their culture by a cataclysmic earthquake and volcanic explosion that destroyed the whole character of the Aegean.
She provides great detail of the technology and social structure to account for the information in Plato's account form ancient times, supplemented by later Roman writers. She provides insights into the character of the ancient Mediterranean world, and its links with the Semitic cultures.
One novel aspect she includes in her tale is the inclusion of Egypt as a vassal of the Empire of Aztlan, which ruled the northern Mediterranean areas associated with Greek culture. Other writers reckon Joseph and the story of the migration of Jacob's family into Egypt occurred in during the Hyksos dynasty, and present evidence that this was facilitated by the Hyksos being Semitic.
She places Atlantis [Aztlan] in the Aegean as the isle known today as Santorini. It appears she is following an earlier very popular view among scholars. A related book, by an archaeological historian, Andrew Collins, purposes an alternative that Atlantis was indeed, as earlier thought, a western island continent on the American side of the Atlantic.
Oh, and for added excitement, in this book she accounts for the ancient tales of Vampirism (porphyria) shared by the ancient Greeks and Egyptians, as well as forms of spongiform encephalitis, a true epidemic of the time.
A seredipitous bit of information about this book is that the author is from Dallas, Texas, the area where I stay and call home when I am not in Africa. 』
(Review) 『It is interesting that Laurel Bliss (New Haven, CT), from the Library Journal (the arm of the Left in Schools and Colleges in the US), should dismiss Frank's book and suggest instead, the books from the lesbian writer Diana Gabaldon... She was not able to explain what she sees as a lack of "more believable settings, suspenseful plots, and plausible, likable characters" in Frank's work. Perhaps, because Library Journal writers in general have a certain distaste to... heterosexual couples? Just check what they say about books that praise homosexuality and are advised to children. I do not take their advise when buying a book in Amazon, but prefer to read regular people, like me, who read the book and express their thoughts!』
(A Wonderful book reminisent of the Earth's Children Series) 『I first came across this book while I was in my public library one day. I was searching for a good book to read while at the beach. The cover immediatly grabbed my attention and after reading the inside flap, I knew I had to read it. The imagery that was mixed into the stroy was incredible. I became intrigued by the theory which Frank offers as to the mysterious demise of the lost Empire of Atlantis. The detail in the story was exquisite and beautiful and I found myself wanting to be there with Chloe and Cheftu! I reminded me of Jean M. Auel's Earth's Childrens Series and was just as satisfying. I would recomend it to anyone, anywhere, anytime!!!』
(Fresh Ideas and a New Adventure) 『Suzanne Frank could very well have rested on her laurels after writing the phenomenal tale of the Exodus from Egypt in Reflections in the Nile. Instead, the second book in her trilogy presents a fresh world with just as much wonder and history-questioning theories.
Journey back to Ancient Atlantis, the doomed society of hedonism and scientific advancements. Cheftu and Chloe are forced to take on new struggles as they are faced with a civilization on the brink of collapse. What is their purpose? And will their love survive the temptations of the sensual lifestyle around them?
A wonderful read..a perfect excuse to call in sick, stay home and read.』
『In the bestselling tradition of Diana Gabaldon and Mary Renault comes Frank's second sensually evocative novel--a tale of time-traveling lovers on the mystic and fabled island of Atlantis.』

Excerpt from book: THE ADVENTURE OF THE MYSTERIOUS PICTURE. As One story of the kind produces another, and as all th company seemed fully engrossed by the topic, and disposed to bring their relatives and ancestors upon the scene, there is no knowing how many more ghost adventures we might have heard, had not a corpulent old fox-hunter, who had slept soundly through the whole, now suddenly awakened, with a loud and long-drawn yawn. The sound broke the charm; the ghosts took to flight as though it had been cock-crowing, and there was a universal move for bed. " And now for the haunted chamber," said the Irish captain, taking his candle. " Aye, who's to be the hero of the night?" said the gentleman with the ruined head. "That we shall see in the morning," said the old gentleman with the nose: "whoever looks pale and grizzly will have seen the ghost." " Well, gentlemen," said the Baronet, " there's many a true thing said in jest. In fact, one of you will sleep in a room to-night " "What—a haunted room? a haunted room? "No—no," said mine host, "there is a secret about one of my rooms on which I feel disposed to try an experiment. So, gentlemen, none of you shall knowwho has the haunted chamber, until circumstances reveal it. I will not even know it myself, but will leave it to chance and the allotment of the 'housekeeper. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Wasn't working for me) 『The heroine has visions. With this story, I was a bit semi-bored. I guess I wanted a passionate hot romance and to me, this wasn't it.』
(Well written, but....) 『Let me preface this by saying that I found this book, and this is the first Skye book I have read, to be well written and well thought out and a great adventure from beginning to end. Character development is quite good, indeed almost too good. By the middle of the novel, I found myself being immensely annoyed with Kara. Her personality just irked me. It got to the point where I wanted to reach within the pages and slap her. I, along with most women who read the book I am sure, have falled for Duncan and in a sense I feel like he is too good for Kara. I catch myself thinking, 'what the heck does he see in this obnoxious woman?" It is almost hard to pinpoint or define what I find so irritating about her! Perhaps for me it all started at the beginning when she got angry with Duncan for not telling her who he was right off the bat. One minute she acts like a timid mouse and the next she is storming off in temper tantrums and getting childishly pouty over stupid stuff. I also found some of the male characters to be a bit unbelievable and corny i.e. Kara's ex and the drunken fool at the Draycott abbey party. The dialogue between them and Kara was a bit silly and unrealistic. I don't know, I guess I am ever the critic. I have read hundreds of romance novels, in between more challenging reading, and have never disliked a female main character this much!』
(I soooo miss the Draycott Abbey Series!!) 『This is the real Christina Skye I know and I have learnt to love...(I mean her books of course). Not the dreadful Code Name series with the stupid cyborg agents and more action then romance. The Draycott Abbey series is the best series by Christina Skye and I really hope she will continue it and Bride of The Mist is, in my opinon, the best in the whole series..
We have Kara who is a pyschic and Lord Duncan MacKinnon who happens to live in Scottish castle. After a series of adventures Kara ends up with Duncan in his castle and the real adventure starts there. Kara starts to experience a psychic connection with a ghost... she begins to dream strange dreams of a far away past. These dreams always leave her very shaken. Their is also mystery and danger in this book so you will never find a dull moment. I love romances set in Scotland and pyschic heroines..it adds a kind of magic to the whole book.
As I said, the other books in the series are also great. Christina Skye at her best. My personal appeal...PLEASE WRITE MORE OF THIS SERIES...and dump the Code Name one...』
(Very good action/adventure type romance) 『Hey now... this one was different. I was actually able to stay focused.... which has been impossible for me lately. Basically, this was a good vs. evil story&a good (sometimes very HOT) romance to go with it. It involved a psychic that could touch things&see visions (not giving anything away)&had a continually unfolding side story that took place 600 yrs ago. This book kept moving (well, mostly... it did drag just a tad a couple of times - but that didn't last long)&the characters were very likable; even though there was some problems to work through, they weren't absolute jerks about it. It had some good suspense in it that, although not chilling, at least made me hold my breath a couple of times. I also enjoyed the descriptions of Scotland... sometimes authors either can't make me get a good picture in my mind, or they go completely overboard&bore me to tears.... not so with this one. It even had it's own Scottish guardian ghost (complete with cat!)&a couple of fun Scottish legends. I'd recommend it to most all romance readers. I've been reading up&there are a series of these called the Draycott Abbey series. I'll definitely being trying out another one!』
(Love this Recipe that Works For Skye) 『This is the 2nd Christina Skye novel of the Draycott Abbey series that I have read (Hour of the Rose - my first) and I really love this gal's writing and stories. The first had an english Lord coupled with an American gifted with second sight. This book - Bride of the Mist - gives you a Scottish Lord - cousin to the Earl of Draycott Abbey and tossed together with another American who has an even stronger psychic connection to days past at Draycott Abbey and Dunraven Castle.
One thing, the story does not lack though is an unstopable pace that has you racing to finish the story holding your breath with each turn of the page! An exciting plot, with breathtaking descriptions of the castles, the abbey and the beautiful landscapes of England and Scotland. And one shouldn't forget the extremely sensual romantic and descriptive love play! Oh yes, this one is hot, hot, hot! - Could this be why I stay up half the night getting to all these juicy good parts?
Wonderful and exciting writing. I love the guardian ghost, Adrian and his cat Gideon - these stories make me yearn for the British Isles to see if I can find these sexy male heroes! - Dont' breathe a word to my husband though!
Definitely a keeper book and a MUST BUY for this author!』

A cleverly spun tale of witches, fairies, time travel, betrayal, and endless love set against moving landscapes of history. Ms. Carlton might consider flexing her considerable talent outside this genre- it's too good not to.』 『Draped in a newly mortal form, Arleigh Donovan believes she possesses the ability to kill men with love--a throwback to roaming through centuries as a beautiful and powerful faery, the Leanan sidhe. When Ryder Kendall magically appears in a Caindale cottage on Trinity Island the enticing but lunatic stranger is the last thing Arleigh needs. Ryder offers a temptation almost impossible to resist, but succumbing to her desires might kill him. When Ryder's pulled out of the modern world and dropped into 1639, he finds the woman of his dreams, but Arleigh might be a little crazy. Add into the mix an array of whimsical faeries, a charismatic and dangerous rival who happens to be immortal, kidnapped "nieces", and the everyday horrors of 1639, and Ryder's got more problems than he can handle. But his biggest problem is convincing the woman he loves she won't kill him with sex. ** "I came upon the tale of the Leanan sidhe one day and wondered how she'd react if she were suddenly mortal and fell in love. How would she deal with the man of her dreams knowing her curse could kill him? Arleigh and Ryder were born." ~ Amber ~ ** A Siren Erotic Romance ** 4 STARS: "Amber Carlton cleverly weaves the story in and out of time...Trinity Magic is an interesting read. The characters are fascinating. Carlton make this entertaining with the use of fairies and other mystical creatures. I enjoyed the way Carlton used history to add depth to this tale. Her description of life in the 1600s was like icing on the cake." -- Anne Boling, Review Your Book』

Jix has prophetic dreams and those make her do reckless things, such as kidnapping her best friend the night before her wedding.
I bought this book because it was a part of a series, and I love time travel books. It was funny, and had an interesting plot. The problem that I had with it and with all 3 books in the series was that the main characters have too many doubts that they keep to themselves and cause un-needed problems. Of course there should be problems in any story, but I think it carries on too long in this book. The overall plot is great, and it gets better towards the end after they finally tell each other the truth. I will say the same about the other 2 books in the series. The 2nd book is the best of the trilogy, since the characters start telling the truth earlier. After the couples unite, the story gets better because then they can face their problems together.
I choose to read romance because I like happy endings, but I also like stories with a good plot. I will keep this book along with the rest of the series (Highland Dream, Highland Fling and Highland Magic). I keep any book that I may read again. If you don't mind the conflict that their lying causes, this is a good book.』
(A Homerun! Ten Stars! If You Read One Time Travel Book, READ This One!) 『I have read three of Tess Mallory's books and liked each of them to the extent I couldn't put them down. Highland Dream is hilarious and such a wonderful story of Jix saving Samantha from marrying a guy who is just after her money. Jix kidnaps Sam and takes her to Scotland where they meet Jamie, whom Jix thinks is the man Sam is to marry. Jix had dreams that have shown her the future. They go back in time and the story spins into the most entertaining time travel book I have ever read. I laughed out loud several times as well as shed a tear or two for Jix. Jix proves to be a brave, steadfast lady who wins the hearts and trust of her friend and the Scottish friends they make. Every bookstore should have Tess Mallory's books on their shelves. She would be a big time seller. The best Time Travel writer in America!』
(Jix spoils an otherwise good book....) 『short and sweet-Jix's antics and dialog are ditzy and annoying to the point of headache forming. What started as cute quickly turned funky. Jix is spunky-but not without sacrificing a good deal of common sense! For example-she "kidnaps" her best friend by getting her on a plane under false pretenses, so she'll miss her wedding, doesn't truly explain why-then is surprised when her friend is so mad at her?!?
I'll try another of this author's book, but I'd say skip this one.
2 stars』
(excellent writer) 『Tess Mallory really out-did herself on her trilogy on time-travel to the Scottish Highlands. From the very first page the stories grab your attention and never lets go. I got up very early in the mornings and read until I finished each book at night. If there was a rating higher than 5, I would rate the book at least a 10.』
(Highland Romp Worth 10 stars!!!) 『Hysterical romp through time! I loved this story! I was laughing the entire time and wished it hadn't ended! I loved the characters of Jix and Jamie, they were funny and real. Definately one of my favorites this year!
~Jix Ferguson was determined to get her best friend Sam out of an impending wedding even if she had to kidnap her and take her to Scotland! After tricking her into the flight, Sam and Jix aren't getting along and end up stranded in Scotland in the rain after their rental car breaks down miles from the castle they were to stay for the weekend! If that isn't the worst part, Jix is convinced Sam's 'future love' is residing in Scotland they just met him standing in the doorway!
Jamie MacGregor opens the door to his uncle's castle estate that is well over 300 years old to find two bedraggled women standing in the doorway, and the redhead has fallen down on her face! When their eyes meet, sparks fly immediately. Jamie is not prepared for how he feels. Another problem arises when Jamie shows the girls his ansestral sword and they begin to argue heatedly over it when they find themselves hurled back in time, about 300 years to seventeenth century Scotland where the MacGregor clan are outlawed by the King!
Now all Jix will have to do is marry the Clan's son Griffon and Jamie must save the clan, but all in all, it's not too hard, especially when she sings verses of 'I Will Survive' and they find themselves running for their lives! Oh yeah, and they need to find the sword and Sam before they can go home! Can they 'survive'? Will Jix be able to keep her hands off the gorgeous Scot long enough to convince Sam he was meant for her? Will Sam forgive her for kidnapping and throwing her back in time to a waring Scotland? Will Jamie fall for Jix or will he find his heart meant for Sam as in Jix's dream?
I was on the floor with this one! I loved it! Something to brighten anyone's day! A real laugh and well worth the money! And by the way, Jamie is hot ;)

A military pilot of the USA variety gets into trouble with the rest of a patrol, and a few happenings later ends up in suspended animation and wakes up in 2176.
Then you have the Han empire and the UCE - e.g. the yanks or Buck's side, if you prefer.
She has to choose between the suave Han overlord and the somewhat scruffier UCE rebel. No prizes for guessing which, in this case.
Not too bad, but Buck and Wilma in this one are a fair bit less martial than in the original.』
(Nonstop fun thrill ride) 『The Legend of Banzai Maguire by Susan Grant was a nonstop fun thrill ride.
Bree "Banzai" Maguire is an Air Force pilot whose plane, while flying over North Korea, gets shot down. From there, the action and adventure doesn't stop. Banzai gets captured and wakes up 170 years in the future. This earth of the future has two major world powers, and neither democratic. These futuristic explanations can sometimes be difficult to understand and rationalize. But Grant gives us a reasonable account that's pretty easy to grasp. Banzai soon realizes that a group of freedom fighters has chosen her as their symbol of hope.
The Legend of Banzai Maguire is considered an action-romance book. Though, it's considerably heavier on the science fiction/action side.
This book is just the first of five in the 2176 miniseries. The first and fifth are written by Susan Grant. Unfortunately, this first book leaves you hanging enough to want to know what happens in their fight for freedom, so I'm off to pick up the next in the series! 』
(Fighter Pilot Wakes up in the Future and Finds herself in a Dangerous Love Triangle) 『THE LEGEND OF BANZAI MAGUIRE by Susan Grant is the first in a five-book futuristic romance series written by four different authors. The gist of the story is that U.S. air force pilot Bree "Banzai" Maguire is shot down over North Korea, captured, and put into bio-statis. But when she wakes up, she discovers it's 176 years later, and two hunky men - one a prince, the other a treasure hunter - are fighting over possessing her.
I really enjoyed the author's description of the future, as well as her realistic and fascinating tidbits about military life. I also thought the story was engaging and attention-grabbing, especially when the love triangle was thrown in. It was fun reading!
However, a couple things kept me from giving the book 5 stars. For one, the initial set-up (in which Bree and her wingman are shot down and captured) takes 50-plus pages to describe. For another, the "legend" part wasn't clear to me. If the legend was supposed to be about pilots gone missing, then wouldn't the legend be about them both, not just Bree? Also, Bree hadn't done anything before being shot down that merited hero-worship status. Nor did she think to question anyone as to why they were hero worshiping her, which frankly I thought odd. Finally, the ending was too abrupt to satisfy and the epilogue actually detracted me. I'd WANTED to read the next book immediately ... until I read the epilogue. Now I'm not so excited.
Anyway, it's still an interesting book ... but ONLY IF you are prepared to read the rest of the books in the series, because THE LEGEND OF BANZAI MAGUIRE definitely doesn't stand alone as a "happily ever after" romance.
***The "2176 series" includes book #1 THE LEGEND OF BANZAI MAGUIRE by Susan Grant, #2 DAY OF FIRE by Kathleen Nance, #3 THE SHADOW RUNNERS by Liz Maverick, #4 THE POWER OF TWO by Patti O'Shea, and #5 THE SCARLET EMPRESS by Susan Grant.***
』
(Fast action seat of the pants book) 『I read this book a month ago and just finished reading the second part to this. In "Banzai Maguire" the action rips right through the book, its fast pace wants you itching for more. The romance part is minimal but it sets itself up in the "Scarlett Empress." From getting shot down in present day and moved into the future through cryo, you'll love Susan Grant's creative imagination of the future...nano technology! Maybe she knows something we don't? Read the book, you'll find yourself relating to one of the characters and that's what makes things interesting. This may not be much of a review, but then again I don't want to give it away either!』
(a high octane romance even your hubby might read:)) 『While looking on the Dorchester website-I came across this book-they labeled it a new genre "action romance". A truer phrase was never spoken! This is the first in an intriguing new futuristic series written by several authors.
This book is part action, part sci-fi, time travel (in cryo sleep but she still finds herself in the future), and finally part romance. The romance and love story play very little in this book-but it doesn't lag from that, in fact it makes, IMO, a more enjoyable read. Banzai is a truely heroic female-she takes the initiative-no whiney, TSTL heroine here!:) The male leads are equally stong and capable-and super fine-always a crowd pleaser:). As someone who grew up on sci-fi and action movies I really enjoyed this book. Very fast paced-especially towards the end-I can see this being made into a movie.
The only forwarning you may need is this series is written in "installment" format. While you COULD read a particular book alone I don't think you'll get as much out of it if you do not continue with the other books in the series-for example, there is a "happy ending" here but you are left with a cliff hanger type ending that pretty much insures you'll want to read the other four books-a very clever marketing ploy on Zebra's part:)
If you're looking for a traditional romance book-then this isn't it. But if you like to try new styles of books and are open to a lot of action with minor romance-then I recommend this book to you:)
4.5 stars!』 『The first in a series called 2176: five books with tough, kick-butt heroines who help restore democracy to the world and find true love along the way.

I'd originally read _Love Once In Passing_ years ago and then spent at least another year looking for its sequel (_Love Once Again_) because I fell completely in love with the characters and their story.
Jessica Lund is a quintessential 20th century woman -- head-strong, confident, brave and independent. Her life is turned upside down with the unexpected arrival of 19th century Earl Christopher Dunlap. From the moment they meet the sparks fly from the page. Christopher accepts almost instantly that he's somehow been misplaced in time, but it takes quite a bit longer for Jessica to realize what he's telling her is the truth. Once realization sets in, Jessica enjoys showing Christopher all the many technological advances in the world since his time. They form a close friendship which, after a few rough patches, turns into something much more. They love quickly and deeply all the while aware that at any moment they'll be parted forever. The reader shares in their joy, which is often bittersweet, feeling each high and low and fearing, as they do, the moment when it will all be over.
My only complaint with the book is the accident that happens about half-way through. I won't go into details, since it gives too much of the plot away, just suffice to say that your heart will break as so much of their precious time is wasted. Make sure you have a box of tissues on hand for the ending (and, if at all possible, the sequel).
All said, _Love Once In Passing_ is a poignant love story that reaffirms the fact that once love is found each moment should be cherished while you have the time.』
(Well written---A fantastic Adventure) 『No matter what you think about time travel, or so many other unexplained phenomena, readers are always intrigued by irrational things that could happen--like human loving vampires, or helpful ghosts, or people slipping from one time frame into another.
Organized religion asks you to do that on a regular basis by requesting you to believe in an unproven god. I don't want to offend religious believers here, but I would ask that if you can believe in an unmet God, why can't you believe that other unidentified phenonoma can occur?
Gods were created by humans because of the things they did not understand in ancient times--lightning, changes in climate, natural catastrophes like earthquakes and floods, droughts and famines. And for thousands of years they had no knowledge to explain these natural phenomena.
This book is an attempt at saying that the conceived impossible MIGHT be possible.』
(beautiful love story) 『Christopher Dunlap, the ninth Earl of Westerham is a very wealthy and respected member of polite society in 1812 Regency, England. He has a town house in London but his love for the land allows him to spend much of his time seeing to his country estate. One night he is riding his horse from London to his country estate when he simply appears in a car in 1981 Eastport, Connecticut.
Jessica Lund is shocked and very afraid when the handsome man in Regency clothes suddenly appears in her car. It takes her awhile to believe he is a Regency traveler who has journeyed through time. Once she comes to accept he's not crazy, she takes him into her house and eases him into the ways of the twentieth century. They fall in love and give into their passion but in the back of their minds they are always wondering if Christopher will be returned to his own time.
This reviewer read LOVE ONCE IN PASSING when it first came out and thought it was a beautiful love story twenty-one years ago and after rereading Jo Ann Simon's time travel today the novel remains a fantastic reading experience. The characters are timeless and somehow believable and the reader hopes they get the happily ever after they so desperately want. To find out the answers to that question, the audience will want to read LOVE ONCE AGAIN coming next month.

Christopher Dunlap, a man of title and privilege in early nineteenth century England, and Jessica Lund, a thoroughly modern woman, suddenly find their lives mysterious entwined in Jessica's late twentieth century world.
Neither understands how Christopher, a man who had been living a happy life nearly two hundred years in the past, is now flesh and blood in Jessica's present.

I am desperate to find more books from this author!
Congrads on keeping me up all night!』
(An ok read) 『This book was an okay read. It's one that I'd have rather checked out from the library than purchased. The book has a lot of typos in it (ie. misspelled words, words left out of a sentence, ect.)
I was a bit disappointed at first. Reading the description the book sounded like it was going to be very promising. I couldn't wait to receive the book and get started reading!
The book is a very easy read. I kept hoping for it to pick up so I actually read the entire book in a day. It had some great moments, but the book didn't draw you into the story. I didn't feel the characters pain or happiness. I felt like I was reading a story. At first the descriptions start out well. You can visualize what they're wearing and how things looked. But by the 4th chapter, the descriptions of people, places and everything stops. I also felt like I was left hanging. There was a hint in the book that the aunt "knew" the truth, but then it never said anything more about it. It also mentions how she needs to get 2 people (I won't go into much detail so not to give the story away) to fall in love, but it never tells you if they did or not.
I'd suggest checking this book out from the library or going to a B&N store and grabbing a cappuccino and reading it there at the store instead of purchasing this book. It is an ok read, I just wouldn't suggest buying it.』
(Time Travel falls short on many levels) 『Alexandra "Alex" Tibideaux receives a message that her grandmother: "I need you." Unable to get a hold of Grams, Alex rushes from California to New Orleans. Grams is fine; she only wants to attend the re-opening of the Dalton Plantation with her granddaughter. Alex agrees-since Grams is her only living relative and is 93 years old. Later that evening, Grams shows Alex a picture of Trey Dalton and how he fell in love with a woman in their family; one who had the same name as Alex... and had disappeared and was never found.
While at the plantation, Alex sees a painting of herself wearing period clothing. Curiosity causes her to touch the portrait... which transports her back to 1878. She awakens in the same house... but Trey Dalton, his aunt, and their servants are very much alive.
Trey Dalton doesn't have time for a woman who mysteriously shows up at his plantation; talking nonsense about how she's from the future. And he doesn't need his Aunt Rose to interfere by going around telling everyone that Trey and Alex are getting married. Both Trey and Alex have to go along with the idea to keep people from gossiping.
But there's someone who wants to ruin Trey and will stop at nothing to do so. Trey believes he knows who is responsible... or does he? Only after a series of potentially disastrous events does he learn the truth.
Stephanie's Review:
Other reviews talk about how Bradley weaved "an engrossing tale of time travel, romance, and suspense."
The time travel was typical: Woman from the present goes back in time where she has to adjust to her new life while wondering if she'll ever return to the present.
The romance was unbelievable - and not in a good way: Trey and Alex spent more time bickering and arguing than anything else. I'm still wondering how the two fell in love. It just "happened."
The suspense was predictable: It's easy to tell who did what when.
Bradley also has a habit of not going deep enough into the story. There are lots of instances where things are just glossed over. Two examples: (1) Alex arrived in 1878, and basically just accepted everything that happened to her - except when she wanted to return to Trey. (2) Alex kept a journal of her time spent in 1878. When she returns to 1997, Grams gives her the journal. She starts reading... only to find a new entry on the last page from Trey. This could've been a very emotional moment, but Trey's entry was cut short.
There's also a lot of typos in this book. I understand that no book is edited perfectly, but the typos here are beyond the norm. After awhile, they started sticking out like a sore thumb. Usually, with traditional publishers, the fingers can be pointed to the copyeditors. But it's questionable with e-publishers. I know of some e-publishers who do more editing beyond what an author does. And then there's some e-publishers who expect their authors to do all of the editing. I'm not sure where Hard Shell lies as this is my first Hard Shell read.』 『(Time-Travel Romance) Trey Dalton is having a very bad day. Someone is trying to destroy his plantation, his mettlesome aunt has come to visit, and some strange woman has appeared on his doorstep spouting some nonsense about coming from the future.』

Cole has other plans. Why let someone else make all the money when it should be him. Cole steals the LC time machine device and makes off with it.
Ted Jacob and his fiance, Amanda were travelling by train to Montana. On the same train was Megan Crane and her fiance, Mike. Megan gets sperated from Mike. She heads off to find him in the arms of another woman. Megan is walking back to her seat when she gets knocked down bt Cole. She falls and takes Ted down with her. Ted and Megan recover to learn that they have been transported back to Fargo, North Dakota. The problem is the year is 1898. Ted and Megan are forced into marriage. These two will have to work together if they hold any hope of getting back to the present. Along the way, they just may realize they were Meant to Be.
The thing I like the most about Mrs. Nordin's books are that the characters are all full of life. I have read many of this author's books now and I have to say that I am really enjoying her historical romantic comedies. They make me laugh, which is always a postitive thing. To be honest, I wasn't sure about Ted and Megan at first and if they would work well with each other. It took me longer to warm up to them. Though as the story progressed my heart melted for them. I did like that even Cole tuend out to be a pretty decent guy. 』
(Meant to be: A time Travel Romantic Comedy) 『This story dragged along. It was too easy to tell what the character's story lines would be. Very predictable. Its not a bad story but I wouldn't buy this, I'd get from my local library.』
(A fun, quick read!!!) 『Author Ruth Ann Nordin's latest book, "Meant To Be" is a fun, quick read. The tale centers around strangers Ted Jacob and Megan Crane, who, while headed on a west-bound train, find themselves trapped in Fargo, North Dakota in April 1898 after the theft of a time travel device.
Needless to say, those in 1898's Fargo are just as surprised at the sight of Ted and Megan as Ted and Megan are to see them. Unfortunately, Megan is thought to be a prostitute; a local preacher is called to wed the couple immediately and "make things right."
The story has many positive aspects. One of the most important ones I think is making the reader take a break, sit back and reflect on our own lives and what is important to us. In 2009 we take so many things for granted. Despite so many inventions to ease our existence, we still spend most of our days rushing around to get things done. This story helps us to focus on the importance of ethics, friendship, love, and our world, and has a wonderful ending. Great job, Mrs. Nordin - I look forward to reading more of your work.
(A fun story!) 『I was intrigued by this new time-traveling romance by Ruth Ann Nordin, and after finishing it I can definitely say it's a fun read. The heroine, Megan, is a grown woman rather than a teenager, yet she still struggles with how she thinks her life should be, like many of us. I really liked that in spite of her careful plan, her frantic attempts to control her life came to nothing. The contrast between Meg's unhappiness and Ted, who accepts this dramatic change in their circumstances quite easily, is well done. Ted is wonderful, and I frequently wanted to snap my fingers in front of Meg and shout, "Hey! Here's this sweet guy! Wake up!"
Fargo in 1898 is a good setting. Ted's appreciation for his new career as a farmhand was wonderful. It was a man's world back then, of course, but I wonder how many people today might trade the cubicle and phone for a chance to work out under the sky. Of course people thinking she was a whore, along with a woman's endless domestic work, explained a lot about Meg's frustration. It made me tired just reading it and I love my washer and dryer more today.
The suspense was good, but I confess that I was so fascinated by what was going on with all the Fargo characters that the big plot dénouement caught me completely by surprise and made me laugh. I liked the 1898 characters and the author did a fine job getting into their heads and showing their slightly different view of human relationships.
Knowing what we know now, it's a scary idea to imagine going back in time. It was a hard life back then, but people lived on a human level in this book that might make it worthwhile. Ted would definitely make it worthwhile! I love a great happy ending, and this one was totally satisfying. 』 『This romantic comedy takes a light-hearted look at time travel. While on a train heading west, Ted Jacob and Megan Crane are thrown into the past with no idea of why or how they got there. They get off the train in Fargo, North Dakota. To their dismay, they are in April 1898. To their horror, the people insist that Ted and Megan marry at once! But Ted and Megan don't even know each other, and despite their protests, the preacher declares them man and wife. They are determined to get back to the future and forget this farce of a marriage. But in the end, they may discover that some things are meant to be...and their marriage just might be one of them.』

It incorporates so many of life's experiences weaving them into a plot that has twist and turns to keep your interest. Thanks, Tess. I shall read more!』
(Absolutly Fantastic) 『This book just kind of fell into my lap and I tell you it is one of the best books ever. Its starts off wonderful and ends fantastic. The charecters were so real. You fall in love with Jake and feel Torri's pain. I have never read a Tess M. book before, but I tell you, she is the best. God Bless all!!!』
(Pretty Good for a Time Travel....) 『I have never read a time travel before, but this was pretty good. It was all very interesting and had you wondering what would happen next. The ending was the only disapointment I had, you don't find out what happens to Christine and Harry, and if her granfather remembers her at all. But all in all it was a fun read, made me wish it was me doing the traveling!』
(Exciting,I stayed up all night reading unable to put it down) 『This was the first timeswept book I had ever read. It got me hooked. I did not realize that it was a catagory.
