(Time travel romance)
(misleading cover)
(A wonderful Surprise!)
(Worth giving a try!) I've read multiple Susan Krinard novels, and this is my favorite. While it travels in time, it's not so caught up in "Timely dialogue" that can be confusing to the present day reader. The hero is strong, though a chauvinist, but that's not unexpected. The heroine is strong and funny. This book touched my heart and popped it's way right into the top favorites of time travel. Doesn't quite beat Knight in Shining Armour, but it is pretty good! MacKenzie Rose Sinclair (Mac) had promised her grandfather that she would return to the Guatemalan jungles of Tikal to return a Mayan pendant belonging to her great great grandfather Peregrine Sinclair. For her grandfather, Homer, believes that Peregrine betrayed his friend and partner Liam O Shea by abandoning him in the jungle. Homer believes that their family have been cursed by Liam and that the only way to break the curse was to return the pendant to the jungle. After Homer passes away, Mac keeps her promise and travels to Tikal, the Mayan ruins in Guatemala. She finds herself walking into a tunnel deep in the jungles and comes across a set of bones with a similar pendant hanging around its neck. She takes the two pendants and suddenly feels unwell, feeling queasy and the ground beneath her feet disappearing. The next thing she knows when walking out of the tunnel she bumps into man who looks very much like the man Liam O Shea, who she has seen an old photo. In fact, she later finds out that it is indeed the man himself she has been transported back in time to 1884. Mac finds herself attracted to the handsome but very macho Liam. And Liam despite finding Mac a little strange can't help finding himself being attracted to her in return. The second half of the book is set in 1884 San Fransisco where Mac must prevent Liam from marrying his ward who happens to be her great great grandmother Caroline Gresham whom she must ensure marry her great great grandfather Peregrine Sinclair. The first half of this book was great. The setting was adventurous and exotic. I had a fun time reading Mac and Liam's reaction to what they perceived to be strange behaviour in the other. Their mutual attraction was very engaging and it was nice to read that Mac wasn't your typical beauty but that Liam was still attracted to her all the same. I found the second half of the book a bit boring and couldn't wait for Mac and Liam to get back to the Guatemalan jungle. I really didn't care much for the characters in the second half of the book. I would have given the book 5 stars if the action had continued as in the first half of the book. However, it was still an excellent read as with all of Susan Krinard's books. She has such a wonderful imagination and knows how to pull you into her stories. A brilliant storyteller with high standards for others to keep up with. Lealing The title twice a hero really refers to Mac- (Mackenzie), the heroine of the novel- not the hero. I found this a refreshing change. She time travels back in time- not only meets a man, but has to matchmake her number of times great grandparents to each other! Also there is danger- someone wants to kill the man she loves. Unfortunely he thinks it her numerous time great grandfather who is trying to kill him, and he intends to marry her numerous times great grandmother. I gave the book only three stars even though the plot was great because the book draged in places and the writing could have been somewhat better. The Characters: The herione of this story is McKenzie (Mac) Rose Sinclair, the last of the noble Sinclair line, reknown explorers/adventerers. There is also Liam O'Shea and his partner, Perry Sinclair, two men who, in the 1880's, discovered the site of a Mayan ruin in Guatemala. And there is Liam's ward, Caroline, a young woman just turning 18, whom Liam seeks to protect and Perry seeks to wed.The World The very beginning is set in modern times, but this is a time travel book, so we end up in San Francisco, 1884. The Plot: It starts simple enough: Mac is urged by her dying uncle to seek out the forgiveness of one long-dead Liam O'Shea for the wrong doing of their ancestor, Peregrine Sinclair. Seems that the two partners had a falling out. Perry left Liam in the jungle, and Liam died. Since then the Sinclair line has not had a whole lot of luck... Feeling foolish but spurred by curiosity, Mac ventures off... Obviously she is transported, via two charms that were previously apart that she reunited, and a time-obsessed Mayan temple, into the past. Thus we embark on a rather humorous and always entertaining story, where Mac finds herself falling in love with Liam and realising that, should Liam succeed in marrying Caroline, who dotes on him, then she, Mac, very well may not exist, as Caroline and Perry are her great-whatever grandparents... The Grade: I love Krinard's work; I bought this book soley because she wrote it and because I desired more than 3 books in my half.com order. I wasn't expecting to like it and I wasn't expecting it to move to the top of the list like it did, outplacing itself on the werewolf romances that she has already written. (Only the two that I've read) It is easily my favorite book by her, and very possibly my favorite romance book. The plot takes precedence, not always the case in romances. We have a whole one sex scene and two near-sex scenes. Liam, mind, is as chauvinistic as they come, but it was part of the times.... All in all a great read and one that some should at least consider. Five Stars from me! An excellent read. Character development was good- but left me wanting to know more about some of the ancillary players. It waned a bit about 2/3's through but overall the story line maintained a steady move forward in plot. I would recommend this to anyone interested in a change of location and time. Zack Rawlins didn't become the youngest president of the Bandera County Cattlemen's Association by backing down from a challenge. So when beautiful but hot-tempered sheepherder Bailey McShane barged into the cattlemen's saloon and accused them of stealing precious water from her land, he waded into the fray...and came out in a heap of trouble. With drought-stricken Bandera County on the brink of a range war, no self-respecting cattleman would be caught dead taking sides with a woman who raises sheep--but Zack can't stay away from this pint-size wildcat. Now he's facing two dangerous battles: one with a town full of stubborn ranchers at one another's throats; the other with an unpredictable woman who refuses to be tamed. Readers were all raves when Susan Krinard burst on the scene withPrince of Wolves. Then she wrote the wonderfulPrince of Dreamsand guaranteed herself a legion of fans. This is her first time-travel and you won't be disappointed! As always, Susan plays with the familiar and makes it original. A deathbed promise sends Mac to Guatemala where she hopes to dispel a family curse. At the ruins in Tikkal she is transported back into time, where she must depend on her ancestor's enemy and former partner, Liam O'Shea, for aid. Liam proves to be the definition of refined masculinity and more than a savior to Mac. Rerations < Twice a Hero >

(It Started Off Well....)
(Time travel and magic and anachronism)
(Had SO much potential....)
(not what it could have been) This book was romantic drivel. It made me think it was pulled directly from the pages of an early 1970s Harlequin. While wonderful at the time, this book will leave today's modern romance reader cold. Latter Day Saints, this is a book you can sink your teeth into. Conor MacCloud returned from the Crusades a bitter and slightly broken man. Most of his fellow clansmen were dead and the small band that was left had barely escaped the vile dungeons of the East. Conor wanted nothing more than to return home and try to let his native Scotland heal his wounds. But Conor was not destined to have peace for quite some time. Conor returned home to his beloved Inverness, Scotland, but he returned to find his mad Uncle Simon ruling as laird of the area. Conor and his small band valiantly tried to take the castle from him, but failed. Conor had refused to take the witch Magdah's advice, but he swore to his dying kinsman that he would seek out the Peacemaker. Little did he know that the ring's magic would hurl him into modern-day Seattle where Eilan Dougan would be waiting...Eilan was an empath and could feel what people were thinking when she touched them, but she wasn't comfortable using this power and preferred to avoid intimacy. Eilan had done her best to hide from mankind by living in a sparsely populated area of Colorado, but she agreed to return home to Seattle to run her parents' antique shop while they were on vacation. When a wild man wearing a bloody kilt suddenly appeared in the shop waving his sword and calling for the Peacemaker, Eilan was terrified and immediately called the police. Conor realized that he had frightened Eilan and tried to make her listen to him, but it was too late, Conor was carted off to jail. Eilan instantly regretted sending Conor off with the police and knew that she needed to talk to Conor and to try and see what he wanted. Before she knew it, she had gotten Conor out of jail and was stuck with him. She spent some time introducing Conor to the wide variety of food available and the convenience of showers, but Conor chafed at the delay. He was all too aware of time passing for his people while he delayed in this wonderland. Conor knew that Eilan had to come with him willingly, but he began to despair that she would never agree... This book started off really well and I enjoyed getting to know Conor and Eilan while they explored Seattle. This part of the book was well developed and nicely paced, but when Eilan finally agreed to return to Conor's time, the author just rushed through the past and it turned out to be only about 1/3 of the book. Eilan resisted using her powers and had no idea how to use them, but she was just suddenly able to dive in and solve everyone's problems within a few weeks of her arrival. I wish the author had spent some more time writing the latter part of the book because this could have been a wonderful story, but it just ended way too abruptly and I did not enjoy the part in Scotland. If you can find this book on sale or borrow it from your library, it is worth reading, but it is still a disappointment. When a kilted scotsman drops into her antique shop with crazy words about the 'peacemaker,' Eilan Dougan does what any woman would do--calls the cops. But she can't keep her mind off the handsome scotsman--or forget that she has long been nicknamed peacemaker. When he promises to take her back in time and to cure the inoperable tumor that is slowly killing her, Eilan agrees to the venture--mad though it may seem.Conor McCloud has returned from a crusade only to find that his uncle has usurped his castle and is conducting a literal witch hunt. Although Conor has fought against magics of all kinds, he promises a dying friend that he'll seek out the peacemaker and bring peace to his land. He doesn't count on falling in love with a witch, but that is exactly what happens. Back in the 14th century, the two must find a way to bring love where hate is now dominant. Author Pam Binder combines time travel with a Scotland/Medieval historical to deliver the classic alpha male to his centuries-separated true love. Readers will want to overlook several huge anachronisms (exactly how many crusades was Conor returning from, where was Turkey during the 14th century if Conor spent time there when the Byzantines still ruled much of Anatolia, and how is Conor so familiar with new world foods) but may find it harder to accept Binder's decision to hide most of the peacemaking from the reader. For me, at least, the huge problems that required magic beyond time seemed suddenly to vanish. I tried really hard to like this book. The first couple of chapters were really promising, but then the author suddenly lost track of where she was going. Stilted broken part-way descriptive sentences. No serious romance going on. I really didn't care if they ended up together. I suggest Karen Marie Moning for really great time travel romance, or for the serious time travel enthusiast - Diana Gabaldon's Outlander. Both authors have never written a dud. This was definitely a dud, no offense intended to the author of course. It just didn't happen. I was very excited about this book when I read the back cover. Unfortunately the book doesn't live up to its potential. I liked the main plot but the author didn't spend much time describing the characters, the scenery. She left you hanging. The romantic scenes left me cold. I wish she had taken the time to really develope this story. I would pass on this one.
Pam Binder captures a passion that defies the ages in this mesmerizing new novel of love in the glorious Highlands. THE ENCHANTMENT Conor McCloud returns from the Crusades to discover his cousin has taken possession of Inverness, the McCloud castle. Fighting back to reclaim his family home, Conor makes a promise to a dying friend: seek out the woman who a witch said could heal the land...a woman from another time and place. Eilan Dougan has taken leave from her Colorado river rafting business to help sell her parents' Seattle antique shop. Her uncanny ability to sense others' thoughts has always set her apart -- and when a dark Highlander appears and begs her help, she can't refuse. But fourteenth-century Scotland is no place for a woman with Eilan's powers. Now instead of Eilan saving Conor, Conor must rescue Eilan from charges of witchcraft -- and decide whether love can withstand the ultimate test of time. Rerations < The Enchantment (Sonnet Books) >

(1st OFF Amazon's brief description is for the wrong book!!!!)
(Good but isn't a keeper!)
(the kind of romance all women love!) This book is a good time travel, but it gets slow in a lot of spots. I can normally absorb a book quickly that I can't put down. This one I've been putting down often. It seems to drag in places. Don't get me wrong I think it's worth the read, and the premise is very good. But it's just not an I can't put you down book. TRUE DESCRIPTION OF BOOK: A DISTANT PAST; Kristine Gavin was depressed about turning thirty until she received a most unusual gift from her brother. It was a portrait he'd found in the attic of their family home in Virginia, a portrait of a woman who must have been their ancestor; judging from Kris' resemblance to the beauty. But it wasn't the painting that intrigued Kris....And old newspaper clipping about the woman's strange disappearance caught within the frame drew her in. Just as Kris was uncovering a fascinating secret from the past she sensed a change in the air-and found herself thrown back in time into a strange room, staring into the eyes of the sexiest man she had ever seen! AN UNCERTAIN FUTURE; Sean O'Mara froze when he saw his wife Christia standing before him. She had vanished and the news had written about in all of the papers-he had been charged with her murder!MY REVIEW: I liked it... it started out to be very interesting and continued for the most part to carry it's worth. I realized that this book was one of THE 1st Time Travel books that were written and I read it as such. If you have the opportunity to get your hands on this one please do, it doesn't have a lot of humor but Kris is smart and makes the most of her situation (you'll understand this comment better once you read the book) What I didn't like was the time spent in his time is so short.... I would have rather had her time there be longer and not so much time spent in present day. Overall a good read I don't know if I would consider it a "keeper" though. I liked this audio cassette recording of Constance O'Day Flannery's Time-Kept Promises and I liked the story about the modern day lady named Kris Gavin being transprted back in time and meeting Sean O'Mara and Sean thinking that Kris is his missing lookalike wife who apparently is not a nice person so that would explain why Sean is so rude to Kris and why he is so shocked that the person he thinks is his cold hearted wife is so much nicer and you can understand his being cynical. Though I liked this story I didn't think it was a keeper. The book was thrilling. It was a real page turner. I read it over five years ago and I still remember it. I've been looking fort it for years because it's such a thrilling book. And it ends quite nicely. Injured and lost in New York, Mary Margaret Dennehy stumbles into the arms of Colorado rancher Connor Holiday, and together, thrown into an arranged marriage, they struggle to conquer the fierce wild land of the Rockies. customer 's review (Fun sexy medieval time travel romance)
(A fun, fast-paced romp) Graham Lawson, a LAPD weapons expert, has been called in to investigate a strange case with odd connections to medieval weapons. In pursuit of a strange clue that might lead to the enigmatic murderer, Graham visits the new Sex Through the Ages Exhibit. While examining some of the medieval obects, Graham suddenly he finds himself transported not just in an authentic medieval world but in the closet of Linnet Welbourne! Although Linnet finds his presence quite unsettling, especially with her brothers nearby, brothers who will do anything to preserve her honor, his presence fills her with a hope of escape. If he could get in, perhaps he can show her a means of escape from her planned marriage before it is too late. As Graham and Linnet are drawn together, Graham discovers a new world, a world with depth and realness unlike the Hollywood scene sets. As Linnette follows Graham, she discovers through him, a whole new world within herself, a world where a woman's pleasure is not to be controlled but to be encouraged. With Graham to guide her, Linnett discovers herself as a woman. Despite his growing love for Linnett, Graham knows he must hunt down the villain hurting other women even if it means risking his love and his life. Can these two discover a love that transcends time?
Joanne Rock's HIDDEN OBSESSION is an innovative sexy medieval time travel romance --- and a lot of fun! With the hero as the time traveler, Joanne Rock adds a little twist as a modern day knight answers the call to free a medieval woman from bondage. Linnett may not have all freedoms of modern women, but she is a woman ready to meet the challenges ahead of her. Within her is a inner boldness that will match that of any modern woman, Graham goes a little farther than the typical medieval knight as he frees Linnett from all the restraints to become a woman, powerful within herself and a woman who embraces the new and challenging aspects of her life. The imagery of the time travel moment is beautifully written. A suspenseful subplot and a wicked villain add an exciting subplot to this romance. Although this romance reads differently than a medieval historical romance, medieval enthusiasts who crave variety with a dash of innovation will get a thrill out of HIDDEN OBSESSION. Not only does the time travel element itself add an intriguing perspective on the medieval setting, but also HIDDEN OBSESSION in particular adds several new twists on medieval objects and themes familiar to medieval lovers. Joanne Rock fans will find in HIDDEN OBSESSION the author's gift of vivid imagery, suspenseful situations, an appreciation for history, and all together in this romance that unlocks the creative power of love to see the world in new ways. Alongside the medieval setting, the hero's perspective adds a humorous contemporary tone. Joanne Rock's HIDDEN OBSESSION is a fun, fun, fun romance with just a twist of zaniness.
COURTESY OF BOOK ILLUMINATIONS Graham Lawson, LAPD weapons expert, is a modern day knight in shining armor. In the middle of investigating a case involving strange sexual practices, he's sent to an exhibit called "sex in the Middle Ages." When he falls through a painting, he discovers a strange tie to his case, and a medevil lass who is ready to steal his heart.
Graham is the kind of man who feels at home in any time. This all-around good guy is strong and stalwart and true. Oh, and did I mention hotter than an August summer day? A picture is worth a thousand words, or so they say, but looking at the cover (okay so I have a thing for strong men with big swords, blame it on Aragorn), I could wax poetic for far more than a thousand words about this hero.
No shrinking Violet, Linnet is a strong woman more than ready to stand up to those who wish to do her harm, and take exactly what she wants. Luckily for the reader, Graham is firmly on her radar. She wastes no time. The dialogue sparkles and the action keeps the reader turning pages as fast as she can read. A gem of a book, there's nothing hidden about my enjoyment of this novel. (Delightful!)
(time travel romance love story and chick lit at its COOLEST!)
(Entertaining sequel to "A Connecticut fashionista at King Arthur's Court",)
(3 stars) Note: This story is written in the first person which works surprisingly well in this comical time travel romance!
This story returns to King Arthur's Renaissance Faire in Upstate New York (present day), the starting point for Kat Martin's journey to Camelot in "A Connecticut Fashionista in King Author's Court".
La Style magazine fashion photographer Chrissie Hayward is already irritated with the missing "Park Avenue Princess" when she receives a disturbing (and unbelievable) cell phone call from said coworker.
Kat claims to be calling from the future with her medieval boyfriend Sir Lancelot, and Queen Guinevere (due to the famous misunderstanding which was apparently caused by Kat's need for secrecy) and needs help getting back home.
Chrissie thinks she's being Punk'd especially when she finds Nimue (a time traveling gypsy from Avalon), at Kat's request, and is told she'd have to travel back in time to the point of King Richard's return to England and bring back a drop of blood from the Holy Grail to aid in Kat's return. The gypsy sends her with a message about love and an outlaw bent on revenge.
Chrissie arrives in Sherwood Forest expecting to find Ashton Kutcher and instead who does she find? Could it be? Robin Hood in the flesh?
It is indeed Robin of Loxley but he's far from the legendary version. Yes, he's incredibly handsome but all that business about stealing from the rich and giving to the poor hasn't crossed his mind and he thinks the idea of putting his neck on the line to defend the helpless is just plain crazy. Worse yet he thinks she's a boy!
Fortunately for him Chrissie's fully prepared to pull Robin up by his bootstraps and mold him into the man of the hour. What she isn't prepared for is losing her heart to him. After all she's on a mission and can't afford to be selfish. Then of course there's the fact that her idol thinks she's his latest merry man.
Poor Robin thinks he's gender confused until she finally reveals the truth. Although he is relieved that he's not gone crazy, a woman's betrayal had been responsible for his outlaw status, and another had broken his heart so he had formed a pact with his men that no women would be allowed into their camp. Can Chrissie trust a love that must be kept secret and what will happen when King Richard finally makes his appearance?
As we all know Prince John is just a puppet for the evil Sheriff of Nottingham who is not at all pleased with all this new distribution of wealth. His accomplice however may surprise you.
This story is a hoot especially when Chrissie is drawing on pop culture for their strategies or through some rather extraordinary magic Kat and Chrissie are dishing about their men and predicaments on their cell phones. And don't even ask about the ladies-in-waiting, it's just a little bit too much déjà vu for our erstwhile fashion photographer! For a rip roaring blast to the past I highly recommend A Hoboken Hipster in Sherwood Forest.
Reviewed by Leslie Tramposch for PNR Reviews Chrissie receives a strange phone call from Kat stating she's stuck in the future. Kat insists that Chrissie must speak to the gypsy fortuneteller. However, the gypsy doesn't just zap Kat back to where she belongs, instead the gypsy sends Chrissie back in time.
Chrissie makes the best of the situation. She's thrilled to come face to face with the notorious Robin Hood, until she realizes he isn't even remotely similar to the hero she's read about in books.
However, Chrissie is determined to shape Robin into the man he was meant to be.
Ms. Mancusi's Robin Hood tale at times had me laughing aloud with the hilarious banter between Robin and Chrissie. Her heroine is a strong take-charge woman who cleverly urges Robin and his Merry Men to be all they can be. The hero is strong and honorable, very likable and not afraid to consider Chrissie's suggestions. This is a delightful fast-paced chick-lit tale!
i've read lots of time travel romances and rarely read chick lit, but i must say, the blending of these 2 elements by the author is unique, fresh, and wonderful!!
i won't summarize the story since the summaries are all here. Suffice it to say that i read the author's "fashionista" story (which was almost as good as this sequel) and the author blending the heroine going back in time in trouble with the fact that she can use the cel phone to communicate with her friend to discuss her man troubles (like in chicklit stories) is a nice supporting touch.
And i was surprised how the author turned this classic robin hood tale on its head with the edited addition of maid marion. How does the author resolve Robin's love of Maid Marion and his love for the heroine? well when you read about maid marion you know why!
and the author as everyone says puts robin hood at first in the not_so_heroic light when he first refuses to save a boy who would be punished bodily by the Sheriff for stealing food because his family's starving. And only the heroine stepping in to help moves Robin. But Robin improves when the heroine shows up and she encourages him to fight for the poor more and more and the poor look up to Robin and his merry men. And this sounds more realistic, esp. when Robin bans women from his merry band because of maid marion rejecting him once and another woman betraying them, so when he and Chrissie, the heroine, become intimate, he tells her sadly that he can't admit their relationship to the others because of his ban otherwise they'll turn to another leader, but this really turns off Chrissie as it would to any woman who wants her relationship acknowledged.
And i like the fact the author didn't make the heroine perfect. she's not a stupid innocent virgin and she becomes furious and reacts physically (smashes their love nest) when she thinks robin is still in love with maid marion just like a real you or me would have reacted even though we find out later robin has let go of marion and his love has grown for Chrissie.
and mancusi's books are SOOOO funny, always referring to teen angst, modern fashions/celebrities/situations with modern humor, so that we can understand exactly how we'd react in modern terms if we were in her shoes. in contrast to fashionista, hoboken's heroine is definitely a take charge type. You see this in the beginning when Robin thinks she's a man(because of how she's dressed) and challenges her to knock him off a log in water if she doesn't want to pay him his "tax". The heroine manages to use her gymnastics athleticism to knock him off and so he's surprised but liking her (as him).
DEFINITELY GREAT READING MATERIAL worthy of an award.
This highly entertaining romp is the sequel to Mancusi's equally amusing novel, "A Connecticut fashionista at King Arthur's Court."
Ever since Mark Twain wrote the brilliant comedy "A Connecticut Yankee at King Arthur's Court" other writers and Hollywood have mined a rich seam of humour from copying the idea of someone from the writer's own time sent back to Camelot.
Some of these have been very good. One of my favourite comic songs is "Busy Doing nothing" which comes from the first film version of Mark Twain's book. Others have been less inspiring. (For instance the film "Black Knight" starts well but gets increasingly tiresome.)
Marianne Mancusi's two books are definately amongst the more amusing of the genre.
Both books starts in upstate New York in the early 21st century at a mock medieval event called "King Arthur's Fayre". The editor of top women's magazine "La Style" has sent an assoicate fashion editor and a photographer to the Fayre to research an article about how medieval fashions are influencing the latest styles.
They are a mismatched pair. The heroine of the first book, Katherine (Kat) Jones, is the associate fashion editor, a Park Avenue Princess straight out of "Sex and the City" complete with the $400 Manolo Blahnik shoes and killer Armani couture which she insists on wearing despite the fact that "King Arthur's Fayre" is being held in a muddy field.
The heroine and first person narrator of this book is the photographer, Christine (Chrissie) Hayward, who is of course the Hoboken hippie of the title. Unlike Kat she is enjoying King Arthur's Fayre - or would have been if Kat would stop bitching.
Kat manages to annoy a gypsy fortune teller who threatens to cast a spell on her. Nobody else takes this seriously, but a few minutes later Kat is watching a simulated joust when the lance breaks, and a fragment flies towards her and strikes Kat on the forehead, knocking her out. She recovers in Camelot ...
Chrissie wasn't looking in Kat's direction at that moment, and this book opens with her searching for the absent partner she assumes has skived off. Then her mobile rings ...
Spoiler alert: it's Kat on the phone, having found a way to speak from another time, and if you read this second book as far as the call, it gives away the surprise ending of the first book. If you are minded to try these books, I strongly recommend that you read "A Connecticut Fashionista" first and then tackle "A Hoboken Hipster" if you like it.
What one can say without spoiling either book is that Kat needs help to get home: she asks Chrissie to go back to the gypsy (who is actually a sorceress from Arthur's time in disguise) to ask for assistance. At first Chrissie thinks Kat is playing a ludicrous joke or has gone off her rocker, but she goes to find the gypsy. Next thing she knows, Chrissie is sent back to the time of King Richard the Lion-hearted to find an item necessary for Kat's return.
Unfortunately she arrives while King Richard is still being held for ransom in a dungeon in Austria. Prince John and the wicked sheriff of Nottingham are running the country. Then Chrissie meets Robin of Locksley.
Robin is not remotely as Chrissie has imagined him, but nevertheless she finds herself falling deeply in love with him. There are three barriers in the way of her doing anything about this. The first is that she is due to return to her own time. The second is that he think's Chrissie is a boy. The third is Maid Marion ...
The style in which the story is told is a delight, and it is a funny, entertaining romp. Strongly recommended. A cell phone plea from her friend, if she can be called that, sends Chrissie Hayward to a Ren Faire fortune teller. Her friend, Kat, is stranded in the twenty-second century with Lancelot and Queen Guinevere (From A Connecticut Fashionista In King Arthur's Court), and needs Chrissie to contact Nimue and get a rescue going. Nimue is more than willing, but she needs special ingredients, among them a drop of blood from the Holy Grail, which was last seen in the days of King Richard the Lionheart after he brought the cup of Christ back from the Holy Land. So, Chrissie finds herself sent back in time to Sherwood Forest where she encounters Robin Hood the first rattle out of the hat. On the plus side, he's more handsome than some of the actors who have played him. On the minus side, he needs to get a clue about what he's supposed to be doing. He and the Merry Men have not gone in for the robbing the rich to give to the poor; they just got the first part right. He also thinks Chrissie is Chris, an eunoch, thanks to her lean build and pants. Since women are banned from the camp, that's an advantage, to a degree. Chrissie is able to become one of the Merry Men and get them on fire to be the heroes she has heard legends about, but that only makes life more dangerous. She has no idea when Richard will return from the Holy Land and Chrissie needs to stay alive and keep her secret from the Merry Men, though Robin did find out and a romance was begun, until the King gets back. Then, she can rescue Kat and go back to the future. But, does she want to?
*** Despite the somewhat annoying use of the first person, present tense narration, this is a fun read. The characters, mostly, are somewhat as expected, especially after they wake up to their destiny, but there are subtle differences that make them Ms. Mancusi's own renditions. If you enjoyed the original Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court or Back to the Future, you'll like this. ***
Amanda Killgore If Chrissie Hayward knew that morning she'd be going back in time to rescue her crazy coworker Kat, she'd have worn better shoes. Doubly so if she'd expected to meet her true love. According to the mysterious gypsy, Chrissie was the "gentle soul who would tame an outlaw's thirst for revenge" -- aka the real Robin Hood. So how come the guy was such a dud?LOST...IN SHERWOOD FOREST? No, Robin of Locksley was no Prince Charming. And the part about robbing the rich to feed the poor? He didn't get the memo. In fact, all the guy seemed to do was mope. (And he and his not-so-merry men thought Chrissie was a boy. Sure, she wasn't stacked, but still!) Nonetheless, he was loyal and brave and handsome as sin. If Chrissie coudl just get him with the program, she could right his wagon and get these boyz'n the wood to be heroes of the realm instead of twerps in tights. Only then could this prince of thieves become king of her heart. Rerations < A Hoboken Hipster in Sherwood Forest >

(A Very Good Book)
(Poorly written, poorly developed, a lemon.)
(Susan Plunkett's best book yet! Kept me reading non-stop!)
(A terrific and different kind of time-travel) This book started out as one of the better time travel books I've read... then died. Seems like another writer took over about half way through the book and did a poor job of finishing it up. To bad... was a great book to start. I enjoyed reading this book, and would suggest it to others looking for a good romantic novel . . .If you want to read a book that goes straight to your heart, read Stolen Moments by Barbara Jeanne Fisher. . .It is a beautiful story of unrequited love. . .for certain the love story of the nineties. I intended to give the book a quick read, but I got so caught up in the story that I couldn't put the book down. From the very beginning, I was fully caught up in the heart-wrenching account of Julie Hunter's battle with lupus and her growing love for Don Lipton. This love, in the face of Julie's impending death, makes for a story that covers the range of human emotions. The touches of humor are great, too, they add some nice contrast and lighten things a bit when emotions are running high. I've never read a book more deserving of being published. It has rare depth. Julie's story will remind your readers that life and love are precious and not to be taken for granted. It has had an impact on me, and for that I'm grateful. Stolen Moments is written with so much sensitivity that it made me want to cry. It is a spellbinder. What terrific writing. Barbara does have an exceptional gift! This book was edited by Lupus specialist Dr. Matt Morrow too, and has the latest information on that disease. ..A perfect gift for someone who started college late in life, fell in love too late in life, is living with any illness, or trying to understand a loved one who is. . .A gift to be cherished forever An inadequate treatment of what could have been a very interesting novel. The characters are shallow and contradictory. Ms. Plunkett seems to think that colorful writing requires multiple adjectives, but sometimes all that gives you is a spelling list. I was disappointed. This is among my all time favorite subjects--time travel. Ms. Plunkett does it so well, keeps you wondering what is next and never wanting the story to end. Captain Raford Strictor knows that his life is over, but regrets that his young wounded comrade, Craig Blackstone must die too. However, duty and honor comes before personal safety and Rafe calls in the bombing coordinates that will leave the duo dead in the middle of the Bolivian Jungle. As the sound of the planes can be heard, Rafe prays for a miracle to save Craig's life. The next thing Rafe and Craig realize is that they are inside a cave in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Also occupying the cave is Lorilie McCaully and Marcia Thorne, the only living members of the Gifted. The Ketchum gang wants to capture the two women in order to use their powers for personal gain. As Rafe and Lorilie fall in love and likewise so does Craig and Marcia, the two soldiers want to protect the ladies while wishing to return to their own time, a psychological disparity that seems impossible to resolve. UNTAMED TIME is a brilliant romance that blends two great lead couples, a fabulous support cast, and an interesting time travel premise (read the book) into a wonderful tale. The novel is so well written fans of science fiction as well romance will enjoy the cross-genre appeal of the stupendous story line. With this classy novel, Susan Plunkett demonstrates that she is one of the top genre talents. Harriet Klausner In the Bolivian jungle of 1998, a rugged soldier of fortune is sent by an explosion to a different place and a different time--the Sierra Mountains, California, the year, 1847; where he is found by a sweet-natured girl who herself is all alone in the world. customer 's review (When all men were Alpha Male......)
(Hmm)
(Delicious Time Travel Bodice Ripper)
(A great time travel romance...)
(great book! *drools*) Somewhere In Time was a fast paced, sexy, and adventurous time travel romance. We see sparks fly when a "alpha male" Roman Centurion meets a modern day "alpha female" air force pilot. A former pilot herself, Lovelace always knows how to put the right amount of guts as well as sensitivity into her female military heroines. They are strong without giving up their femininity.
Funnily, I've just finished watching the DVD series Rome - The Complete First Two Seasons, so unlike the other reviewers, I felt that the author got the heroes male dominance quite right for the time period. Ancient Rome was a brutal place, and the people had to be brutal to survive. Lucius is portrayed as a hard man, but an honorable man nonetheless.
The bedroom scenes are VERY descriptive and explicit, especially for a series romance-but the characters are portrayed as being VERY intimately attracted so the scenes are appropriate with the story.
If not for the somewhat rushed and implausible ending, Somewhere In Time would be a five star book. In any event, I'd still recommend it to Time Travel Romance fans looking for a new setting. 3.5 stars! I was really looking forward to seeing how the author wrote this novel as it has a great premise, but the way in which the author wrote it is sadly lacking. I came away thinking that "this isn't how a Roman general would react" several times through out the book. The author needed to do more research. Another delicious time travelling bodice ripper as Captain Aurora Durant of the US Air force is swept back in time, into the arms of a hunky Roman Centurion Lucius Antonius.
Sparks fly as Aurora and Lucius clash, mainly over the status of women in Roman society and Lucius's inability in the beginning to accept that this divine young woman is actually from a future in which women are as much warriors as men.
But Aurora finds herself falling in love with Lucius despite her misgivings and he with her and this sexy yet charming story contains daring rescues, love among the dunes and a sparkling if predicable time travel plot.
This book has all the ingredients you want for a great holiday read, handsome hunk with rippling muscles, delicious but modern sexy young woman defying the boundaries of time to be with each other. Be prepared for a steamy, quality read. SCRUMPTIOUS! Captain Aurora Durant was flying over Iraq when her and her co-pilot Lt. Charlie Everett flew right in the middle of a storm like nothing either of them had seen before. When lightning strikes into the cockpit and Charlie is knocked unconcious, it is up to Aurora to bring the plane down safely, which she is miraculously able to do. What she doesn't know is where she is, only that she has a magnificet warrior standing over her talking to her in a language that hadn't been used in over one thousand years. Soon, Aurora learns that she has extrodinarily crossed time to almost two thousand years before she was born. When she realizes that she may never be able to go back, Aurora tries to find her niche in 160 A.D. Aurora never expected to fall in love with the warrior that rescued her whom she soon learns is Lucius Antonius, senior ceturion of the Roman Empire, dubbed Luke by Aurora.Lucius had never met a more proud woman that Aurora of the gods. At first believing that Aurora was sent by his enemies to bring down Rome, Lucius is cautious. As time goes on, Lucius believes the unbelievable story of crossing through time. For surely no woman of Rome would ever challenge him as much as the firey haired goddess that he desires. Together, Lucius and Aurora try to compromise his demand for constant obidience and her demand for respect, regardless of who he is. Somewhere in Time is a sweet story between these two people who love each other enough to overcome the obstacles that they run into. The only thing that I didn't like was the ending. I believe that Luke wouldn't have surivied in the twentieth century because he is used to constant obidience from everyone he commands. He would not know how to survive in this world where he has to take orders from a woman. Other than that, it is great and I recommend that you pick it up! This was one of those books that you see at the grocers with the magazines...and thank god i picked it up to give it a try...well worth it!...very romantic with just enough 'extra' to make things interesting without becoming a smut. ^.^ Highly recommend! Long ago and far away.Air force pilot Aurora Durant was lucky to be alive. It hadn't been easy to bring her jet down in the bizarre windstorm, but the savvy captain had managed. Now she had to figure out where she'd landed -- andwhen. Lucius Antonius, senior centurion of the Roman Empire, couldn't believe his incredible fortune. A beautiful woman had literally dropped out of the sky. But before Lucius could claim the willful, impertinent creature, he had to tame her. Soon Aurora discovered the true test of her spirit wasn't learning to live in a time two thousand years in the past, but resisting the powerful allure of an ancient warrior. Her agenda could only be returning to her own time, and falling for Lucius could make that mission impossible to accomplish. Rerations < Somewhere in Time (Timetwist) >

(GREAT READ . . .)
(Loved this book)
(Nope, Nope, Nope...)
(disappointing) First let me say that I loved this book more than anything I've read in a while -- and I read a LOT. Especially the last 30 pages (not the Epilogue, but the last 30 pages of the actual story) were so intense that my heart was literally racing to find out what would happen.
Unfortunately, like Volume 1 that precedes it, this book is also chock full of grammatical and continuity errors that should have been caught by a fifth-grader.
I also think it was cheesy to publish this story in 2 volumes, since they could have (and should have) easily been merged in to one single book.
Furthermore, it seems like there could have been so much more written about Kallen and Aaric's time together in 1820; the author could have easily added another 200 or 300 pages on this aspect alone and I would have greedily gobbled them up.
The epilogue was lame.
In my opinion these are minor criticisms of what I found to be a highly engrossing page-turner that I would recommend to everyone.
I'm not much into science fiction but I found this book to be absolutely fasinating. I had read the first one and couldn't wait to finish off this book to see how things turned out. I thought it was very well written and have also enjoyed other books written by this author. Book one of Stealing Some Time by Mr. Kendrick gives you the details of the setting of this book. You will be completely lost in Stealing Some Time book two if you have not read the first book.
This book has more of the same of book one but the biggest difference is that Aaric and Kallen get to know each other more as Kallen spends some time in Aaric's 1800 world.
Of course, Kallen is in pursuit by the powers that be (in his respective time and world) as they learn he stayed behind. They don't know why he did but the ball of yarn eventually unravels and everything comes out.
Nothing, and I mean nothing, exciting happens in this book. Tons of dialogue between Aaric and Kallen and lots more tech stuff happens that slows the pace of the book out of warp speed to a crawl.
Yawn. In this second volume (and third part of the trilogy... a bit confusing this -very short- trilogy divided in two books) I missed nearly all the qualities of the first volume and found the flaws heightened.
The storyline loses its pace and gets a little slow and boring, which is surprising enough if you reckon that this last part is essentially a manhunt, a subject that, if well done, should actually be breathtaking. Characters feel a little stereotyped, they declare their feelings for each other a little too loudly to be entirely believable.
The overall impression is a sense of pedrantry, as if the intent in writing this last part of the story was to be didactic about homosexual relationships.
Kallen Deshara has discovered his world’s origin, nature, and destiny; and has fallen madly in love with Aaric Utzman in 1820. His decision to stay with Aaric, knowing full well that his presence might change all of history, brings him to the very edge of reality. But his colleagues who have returned to the 25th century have other plans. They intend to bring him back before he changes anything, even if it means killing him. But first they have to find him.Traveling along the Wilderness Trail with his new companion, Kallen is totally unaware he’s being stalked. In the meantime, he realizes what had been missing his whole life, deepens his love with Aaric, and sees more water than he thought possible. Slowly but surely, he recognizes that he has more to offer than he ever knew. In fact, he may even be able to shape the future that should have been! But Kallen learns an even more important lesson. He discovers that love knows no boundaries—not even of time itself. Rerations < Stealing Some Time: Book II >

(Excellent)
(Best yet from Mrs Van Horne!)
(Amazing Journey through time!) Beneath the Wings of Isis is an exciting twist to regular time travel tales. There is love and adventure which is the usual theme. The gods, vampires, pharaoh and mystic genius blend is such away that it was really hard to put the book down. Just as interesting as The Time Traveler's Wife, but more daring. I am a time travel lover, I devour all the books about traveling thru time I can get my hands on. This is one awesome series, and #7 of the series is different than the others but still gets my vote of 5 stars! A must read for time travelers who love Holly Van Horn. Although it is tough to beat the success of her previous six books, Mrs Van Horne has put forth her best book yet in Beneath the Wings of Isis. Over 500 pages of brilliant writing, Beneath the Wings of Isis is brilliant. You will not be able to put this book done! This book left me breathless. I loved the whole premise of 1 man trying to go back in time to avenge a wrong done to him and thousands of other people. The search for the vampire that bit him is a journey you will never forget! Yet through the whole process the man learns something of himself and changes to become a better person, without having to kill his intended victim! Learning the history of ancient Egypt was enthralling. The main characters of this book will take you by the hand on this incredible journey!! I definitely recommend this book to those interested in ancient Egypt and vampires and to those who enjoy a romance novel full of surprises.
