Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (too much sex, not enough story) 『The title of my review says it all. I was hoping for another nice time travel romance, but instead was treated to so many pages of explicit sex scenes right off the bat that I grew bored and deleted the book off my kindle. I thought the first book in the series, Kiss of The Highlander, was so much better.』
(not an instant win for this fan of the Fever series, but still good) 『I picked up The Dark Highlander after devouring Moning's Fever series. I was so impressed by her style and characters in the Fever books that I decided to try the Highlander series.
It was still recognizably the same author, with the same talent, but the experience just wasn't as satisfying to me. I have a real problem with heros who present themselves as Mr. Big Bad and Scary, then turn out to be knights in shining armor, and that's exactly what Daegus is (in Fever speak: He's no Jericho Barrons). Daegus is a lamb wearing a wolf's coat; or, to be fair, an intimidating but loyal guard dog in a wolf's coat. At first he seems like a borderline villain - he steals valuable medieval manuscripts, he kidnaps the heroine, and, oh yeah, he is the living vessel of thirteen evil Druid souls, and their evil is leeching into him along with their power - but it isn't long before his true colors shine through. Actually, he's using superhuman purity of soul to resist the influence of the evil Druids, he's going to return the manuscripts he stole, and he's madly in love with the heroine.
Chloe was an engaging character, and I liked her, but she was a much smaller presence than Daegus. We find out about her background, about her childhood and the early death of her parents, her Scottish grandfather who taught her to love all things Celtic, about her passions and her talents. She's smart and sweet and courageous. Despite all that, I found her kind of forgettable. I'm not sure why - maybe because while Daegus is trying to save the world AND fall in love, her big challenge is whether or not she'll risk an emotional attachment to a man like Daegus, who seems like a real heartbreaker...for the first hundred pages or so.
There wasn't anything *wrong* with The Dark Highlander, and it was a fine read. It just wasn't my cup of tea.』
(A good addition to the series...) 『This is a good addition to the Highlander series. It had an interesting plot (read Kiss of the Highlander first), and was paced pretty well. Although I liked the main characters (and the sizzle between them), I didn't get into their romance as much as I did with Kiss of the Highlander (their relationship didn't seem as believable). The whole story just didn't draw me in as deeply as the previous book. Overall it was a good read - just not a 5-star read for me.』
(Great Book!) 『I love this series!! It's a great story, and I wouldn't mind meeting any of the Highlanders to be quite honest :)』
(Tall, dark and ancient - really ancient...) 『"I am a man with one good conscience and thirteen bad ones". So says Dageus MacKeltar, a 16th century Druid who made the ultimate sacrifice for his twin brother. But that sacrifice, selfless as it was, was against the sacred oath which his ancestors swore to the Tuatha De Danaan also known as the Fairies. For saving his twin's life necessitated entering the circle of stones which enables them to move beyond time. Thus, the Compact between Human and the Fairies was broken, releasing the spirits of the thirteen evil Druids cursed by the Fairy Queen thousands of years ago. Dageus now houses those spirits and he is desperate to find the way to re-imprison them before time runs out and he becomes the ultimate evil himself.
After pouring through one ancient book after the other, Dageus feels his control slipping away and evil is starting to consume him. Salvation seems impossible. Then he meets Chloe Zanders whose passion for antiquities and everything Scottish turns out to be the very thing he's been waiting for. What follows is an amusing interaction between the two as they fight their attraction for each other, while racing against time to fight the evil that threatens to wreak havoc to mankind.
While it took me a while to finally get around to reading the previous book featuring Dageus's twin brother, I quickly grabbed this from the shelf within seconds of finishing KISS OF THE HIGHLANDER. Indeed, I loved that book so much (I can't believe I waited so long to read it) and fell in love with the MacKeltars and couldn't wait to see what happens to Dageus. I was saddened to find out about his fate and couldn't believe what the author subjected him to. How could you Ms Moning! But, of course, the idea was to make it all the more sweeter when he finally gets his happily-ever-after.
Did it work? Yes, he does get his mate but the journey along the way wasn't as captivating as Drustan and Gwen's. I enjoyed it for the most part but it lacked the poignancy that I loved in the previous novel. And the involvement of the Druid order of the Draghar seemed contrived. Instead of adding danger to the story, I found it mostly a distraction perhaps because it wasn't really given enough depth. However, this is a minor complaint on my part. Reading about Dageus and revisiting Drustan, Gwen, Silvan and Nell was enough to make this a worthy read - just not on par with the previous novel.』 『Journey to a world of ancient magic, breathtaking sensuality, thrilling time-travel.... Her Highlander series is one of those rare series that continue to get better as they go along. With every new book in the series, I find myself sucked into the world and the characters. While all of them surround a Highland Warrior and time travel, none are that same as the last, and each Highlander is seductive in their own way. In this book, we encounter Drustan and Gwen, and travel from the modern world to the Highland past and back again. The castles and atmosphere are gorgeous as usual and I find myself constantly wishing I was in Scotland myself. This novel takes a new spin on an old story, this time Sleeping Beauty. Without giving away too much, Moning weaves a tale of suspense, comedy and of course romance. The reader falls in love with Drustan and I found myself finding his mild arrogance kind of endearing instead of annoying and I waited eagerly to see how his and Gwen's story will pan out. I even became overly intrigued with Drustan's brother, Dageus, and the foreshadowing Moning created toward his future story. In fact, Moning set up the transition from Drustan's story to Dagues' story in Dark Highlander so well, that I found myself running out to buy it! If I had to complain about anything it had to be the use of the phrase "cherry-picker". By this time in the book, I know our leading lady is a virgin and there is no need to pound the idea in so much, it became a little repetitive but easily enough overlooked and it's not like the storyline suffered over it. However I did find myself growling whenever I read the phrase or reference to it. In the end, I'd say try this book, try this series, it's great and unlike other series, it keeps getting better! You'll fall in love with the romantic Highlands and its warriors.』
(Great Author and a Great Series) 『This author comes recommended by a friend, who normally doesn't make recommanedations. Believe if you start anywhere in the Highlander book series, you will not be thrown off by figuring out what happened previously. Its a shame she has not written anymore in this series and has been working on her darkfever series as, you tend to feel what the characters in her books are feeling. Alot of it is believable and some research done. Some of her research though should have been taken further as some according to a friend who actually lives in Scotland, is way off. The Kiss of the Highlander has a bit of angst to it and a fairy tale ending, which though was not happy with the later, ties in with the rest of the story line』
(Amazing) 『I know I'm a little late, but I've got to add my two cents. Amazing! I'm not a girl usually into anything sci-fi or fantasy, but this series changed my mind. And of the series, this is the best book in my opinion. The male lead character is just right. He's strong, smart, funny, and loving. I couldn't have dreamt up someone better if I tried. I have never wanted to cry over something I read in a book, so the little catch in my throat while reading was a first for me. Enough gushing. If you need to escape for a little bit, this is a great choice.』
(absolutely freaking amazing! by far my favorite romance novel) 『a must read that will not disappoint! its an extremely romantic and passionate novel that will make you laugh and cry. the best part for me was that the plotline was unpredictable. the plotline in general excedingly surpassed my expectations. i would give 10 stars if possible.』
(A great time-travel romance!) 『I enjoy time travel romances, and this is one of the best. Fast-paced, erotic, an alpha hero - what more can you ask for? Throw in a highlander and whew... you've got an explosive mix. The conflict/tension between the hero and herione is perfect. You'll find it hard to put this one down once you start, so get your kids fed and dishes done before you start. (Or better yet, pack them off to grandma's and keep your husband around for when you finish the book.)』 『A laird trapped between centuries...
Enchanted by a powerful spell, Highland laird Drustan MacKeltar slumbered for nearly five centuries hidden deep in a cave, until an unlikely savior awakened him. The enticing lass who dressed and spoke like no woman he’d ever known was from his distant future, where crumbled ruins were all that remained of his vanished world. Drustan knew he had to return to his own century if he was to save his people from a terrible fate. And he needed the bewitching woman by his side....
A woman changed forever in his arms...
Gwen Cassidy had come to Scotland to shake up her humdrum life and, just maybe, meet a man. How could she have known that a tumble down a Highland ravine would send her plunging into an underground cavern— to land atop the most devastatingly seductive man she’d ever seen? Or that once he’d kissed her, he wouldn’t let her go?
Bound to Drustan by a passion stronger than time, Gwen is swept back to sixteenth-century Scotland, where a treacherous enemy plots against them ... and where a warrior with the power to change history will defy time itself for the woman he loves.... 』

(Steamy and HOT !!!) 『This book was wonderful, hot and steamy !! My husband was away working when I read this book and I was wishing he was home ! hehehe』
(Readable, but disapointing...) 『This is definitely my least favorite of the Highlander series by Moning. The relationship started out very cute, but it quickly took a back seat to other story lines. In fact, the end was very truncated and we didn't get to learn how our couple fared. I think Moning realized this and tried to fix it by adding the author's note at the end, but it failed.
We do get to see old favorites, like Drustan and Drageus, but they continue to distract from the plot. I don't like investing 300 pages to a plot line that just doesn't get finished. Oh well...
Bottom line, if you are new to Moning, don't start with this one. If however, you have read the other six books, I won't try to dissuade you.』
(Time travel romance) 『Never thought I would like books with future or the past in them. Time travel was not my thing till I read all of her books. Not one was easy to put down till you finished it. Been a while since I read this one, but I do keep them to read again. Her highlander is hot, sexy and makes you want to run off to Scotland to see if you could find one too. The stories keep you interested enough that you want to see it till the end. Not boring in the middle.』 『Powerful. Sensual. Seductive. He is all that is shamelessly erotic in a man. But when a split-second decision saves her from a terrifying attempt on her life, Jessi suddenly finds herself confronting six and a half feet of smoldering, insatiable alpha male.

But, this series is way different. Honestly, doesn't even seem like the same author. This book is fantasy to the nth degree. I can't say enough about it. I really enjoyed the story line, the characters, the writing, everything! Just started Kiss of the Highlander and I just know I won't be disappointed.』
(Sexy with dash of intrigue ...) 『lots of new revelations in this one .I found this book to be sexy and a fun read.I must admit that after reading the first two books It became somewhat predictable.I am very intrigued by Adam Black ...』
(Solid Romance and Sexy Men With Brogues) 『As a fairly recent but HUGE fan of Moning's Fever series, I thought I'd give the Highlander series a try. I knew going in that the two series are vastly different, but hoped that some of the things that truly make the Fever series stand out to me would cross over. I was pleased that they did.
I won't bother with a synopsis of the story - that's been done and done well. What I will tell you is that while I used to be a large fan of historical romances and time travel romances, I've been out of that passion for at least a decade and only my love of Moning (and yes, my pining, gnashing, and wailing for Shadowfever) drove me back to one such book. I'm glad for it, too.
I found the characters to be compelling and Lisa Stone in particular to be a lovely protagonist. Circenn was sexy, totally alpha male, and wonderfully mysterious in his own right - and now I understand the reference to Adam that V'lane made in Dreamfever. I very much liked that particular Seelie. Lisa's emotional struggle with a mother dying of cancer struck a very real and true and grief laden chord with me, too. I thought the story was paced well and there was enough depth in the secondary and ancillary characters, as well as the plot, that Highlander's Touch was a a full, rich delight to read. And there's NEVER a disappointment in Moning's character's dialogue - it's always fun, witty, and sarcastic as each scene warrants. My only true criticism was the ending - I wasn't fond of the direction it went to get to a resolution and I thought it was wrapped up a little too quickly, given the care and thorough detail given to the first 80% of the book. Still, it's a light and engaging read without too much angst or misery and as always, Moning's attention to detail and her ability to embelish on fae folklore is in fine form here.』
(Best Highlanders EVER!!) 『I am so in love with Moning's Highlander series that I don't have the words. Every one is unbelievable. So much so that I can't pick a favorite! I have gotten 4 other women hooked already and will keep on getting more to read these fabulous books. More Highlanders, Karen, PLEASE!!!!!!!!』
(Style and dialog makes a fun read) 『I discovered this series after the fourth book and each has been fun adventure reading. I am waiting for the fae series to end so she can continue these stories too.』 『A Warrior Of Immortal Powers
He was a mighty Scottish warrior who lived in a world bound by ancient laws and timeless magic. But no immortal powers could prepare the laird of Castle Brodie for the lovely accursed lass who stood before him. A terrible trick of fate had sent her 700 years back in time and into his private chamber to tempt him with her beauty—and seduce him with a desire he could never fulfill. For this woman he burned to possess was also the woman he had foresworn to destroy.
A Woman Caught In The Mists Of Time
When Lisa felt the earth move under her feet, the fiercely independent 21st-century woman never dreamed she was falling...into another century. But the powerful, naked warrior who stood glaring down at her was only too real...and too dangerously arousing. Irresistibly handsome he might be, but Lisa had no intention of remaining in this savage land torn by treachery and war. (Great Insights by a Fantastic Author) 『All of Diana Gabaldon's books are true works of art. Of the thousands of books I've read her storytelling distinguishes her as an artistic craftsman capable of bringing to life complex and compelling stories that blur the mind's ability to reconcile that the story is fiction and not a personal account. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Another excellent Oxford World's Classics edition) 『Note that this review refers to the Oxford World's Classics edition of Hamlet. Amazon does a really terrible job of sorting out which editions of Shakespeare plays are the same and which are different, so this review will almost certainly be referred where it does not belong.
This edition, like most of the Oxford World's Classics Shakespeare editions, is outstanding. The introduction is a good solid read and the editor is a very good writer (a quality which, though often overlooked, really makes or breaks an annotated edition). His references and notes are keen and illuminating and occasionally betray a wry sense of humour. Plenty of room in the margins for notes, as I found out taking a ridiculously intense seminar on this play and Joyce's Ulysses this semester. This play is truly Shakespeare's masterpiece, and this edition eminently does it justice.』
(satisfied but not thrilled) 『The description of the book said that it was used, but in near-new condition with no markings. It was a bit worn and there was writing and highlighting throughout most of the play. Then again for four dollars what can one expect? I needed a book and thats what i got.』
(Over My Head) 『Still on my Shakespeare kick, I decided to carefully read Hamlet including the footnotes and introductory material in my Arden Shaekspeare version of Hamlet.
The play; there is much to say about Hamlet, more than such a review like this can handle. What I took away this go-round was how much happens off stage; the murder Hamlet's father, the marriage of Gertrude and Claudius, the love story between Hamlet and Ophelia. I think this give the play great ambiguity and tension which deepens and enriches the experience of watching the play.
The Arden edition: the footnotes were often unhelpful. Frequently the notes would concern the derivation of a word or meaning when I what I was looking for was some explanation of the meaning the sentence. Perhaps I am expected to have more knowledge of the play to get value from the notes. I also found several of the introductory essays concerning versions, sources, publication too academic to hold my interest. However, the critical essay was very readable and helpful; it concerned whether Hamlet's indecisiveness was simply a device to keep the play going or intrinsic to his character and the story.』
(Shakespeare) 『I read it all in one setting; it's a classic. Details a fictionalized account of the royals.』
(I finally got it.) 『I received two books called "Sixty-Minute of Shakespeare." The first book "Romero and Juliet" and the second was was "Hamlet." I slowly sank into into my chair and had flash backs of being in school and trying so hard to understand the many twists, turns and language of Shakespeare.
As I began to read "Romeo and Juliet" much to my surprise I actually understood what was begin said. The author added footnotes and did some editing that made it easy to read. Then I read "Hamlet" and again understood what was being said. I began to glimpse the wonder that is hidden within the words.
For the first time in my life I truly understood what Shakespeare had wrote. I loved both plays and was somewhat shocked that I did. I finally realized why Shakespeare was considered brilliant and well known around the world.
I really think these books, which are a part of a six book series, should be read by young people first, before they enter into the world of Shakespeare. The author has done a fantastic job of editing the books to shorter versions than the original works. Even though the books are smaller, they in no way, take away from the story line of the larger books.
All I can say is thank you, Cass Foster. A window that I had closed, is now opened. All because you created "Sixty-Minute Shakespeare."

There were things I felt would have contributed to it being even better. I felt that there were some things that were not well explained (like why would the lead character agree to go back in time - it happened too easily and without much depth of explanation). I also felt that the author could have gone deeper into what the character may have been thinking and feeling at times. Lastly I would have really enjoyed reading more of what life would have been like in the past, what culture shock would have been involved, and what it would have felt like for someone from this time to be back there.
Regardless, it was still a really fun read that pulled me in from start to finish. I would certainly recommend it to those who enjoy romance or time travel stories.』
(Heroine illogical and stupid. Conflicts were based on inaccurate assumptions. Nothing different or special enough.) 『STORY BRIEF:
The Setting: Long ago Prince of the Fae, Pol, fell in love with a human Rose. They had three daughters. The descendants of these daughters would have a rose birthmark which was their link to the faerie world and the occasional use of faerie powers. In 1272 Scotland, Connor swore he would never marry because his fiancé left him to marry his no-good Uncle Artair. He felt women could not be trusted. Artair planned to give Connor's younger sister Mairi to an abusive older man as payment for Artair's debts. Connor could not stop the marriage unless he himself married and stayed home to be responsible for his sister. Previously he traveled in service to the king. Connor's Aunt Rosalyn asks the faeries to bring Connor's one true love to him. Cate from present day time travels back to Connor's time. She agrees to marry Connor and then return to her own time shortly after the wedding. Connor would tell others that she was visiting relatives.
The Story: Cate is drawn to Connor and wants to have a relationship. Connor refuses to open his emotions or get to know her. Someone is trying to kill Cate to stop the marriage.
REVIEWER'S OPINION: There was no interesting relationship development. The sources of conflict were weak. The magic of faerie powers seemed too easy. They felt like a convenient way to make things happen as opposed to providing some intriguing magic. A number of plot events were formulaic and typical for time-travel romance books. They were nice, but I'd prefer a different spin, or style, or voice - something to make it feel new and different.
DATA: Story length: 356 pages. Swearing language: moderate to strong. Sexual language: none to mild. Number of sex scenes: 4. Total number of sex scene pages: 14. Setting: 1272 Scotland and present day Denver, Colorado. Copyright: 2007. Genre: time travel Scottish romance.
OTHER BOOKS: To date, I've read one other book by Melissa Mayhue. My 3.5 star review of "A Highlander of Her Own" was posted 7-2-09.
CAUTION SPOILERS: Someone threw rocks at Cate and her horse causing an accident. She went to the stables alone at night to check the horse for evidence but told no one where she was going or why. While at the stables, someone attacked her. When she started to tell Connor about the evidence, he refused to listen to her. He wouldn't let her talk to him for several days. During that time, she didn't tell her friends (the aunt and the sister) supposedly because she didn't want them to investigate and possibly come to harm. What? First, why go to the stables alone at night? Second, why not tell someone about the evidence, even if it is not Connor? Would a logical person do this?
After their marriage, Cate tells Connor she wants sex. After their first time, she tells him no more sex until he says he loves her or trusts her. So now they are apart. Later she changes her mind and says yes lets have sex again. Her reason was she decided to pursue joy in life. She changes her mind twice. I'd prefer a more interesting source of conflict.
Cate was engaged to Richard in the present. She realized she didn't love him and planned to cancel their wedding. When she went back in time, she fell in love with Connor. I did not buy it that she kept wearing Richard's engagement ring while she was with Connor. The author used this to provide a source for conflict between the two.
Other conflicts occurred because of inaccurate assumptions between the two. She loved him but wouldn't let him know. He thought she wanted to leave him which was not true. Unfortunately too many romance authors rely on inaccurate assumptions as a source of conflict which is not interesting for me.』
(Refreshing!) 『This was a fantastic novel. I love that it had a strong plot in addition to passionate romance. To many times I have read a paranormal romance and found the plot lines absolutely laughable, corny and not worth reading. This series of books is excellent (all of them)! Most of the books I have read in the paranormal genre have been vampire romances, these were such a refreshing change for me. I highly recommend all The Daughters of the Glen books.』
(30 Nights with a Highland husband) 『I just happened upon "30 Nights" while browsing for books to purchase. The bonus was that it is book "one" of the series. Melissa Mayhue is a good storyteller. She didn't disapoint, her characters are terrific. I'm glad I stumbled upon her writing. Though I haven't found any of her books in the stores, they can be ordered online. I have already finished the second in the series and am waiting for book three to arrive.』
(Easy read) 『I am waiting not-so-patiently for the next book in the"Outlander" series and picked this up by chance. Romance is not my first choice in a book, but this kept me intrigued and I found it finished before I knew it! Good storyline, hard to put down, and I just bought the second in this series. Christina Skye never disappoints, and always makes my "trips" memorable. No matter who the main characters are, they always manage to intertwine with Adrian, my abby's guardian, and Gideon, my favorite feline. Truth be told, I was drawn to Gideon from his first appearance and by the time he nonchalantly leapt into Adrian's portrait, I was smitten. I sense Gideon is much more than he (she?) seems. Perhaps that's another layer to Draycott Abby's mysteries that Ms. Skye is saving for the future.
The only downside....as soon as I finish the latest book, I'm missing everyone and looking for the next one!
Brava Christina!

Collateral damage is acceptable to Adrian who casts a spell that will kill everyone inside by moonrise. The lone human resident is FBI agent Sara Nightingale seeking clues to a missing treasure, but instead meets Navarre and Adrian.
These are two entertaining Draycott romantic fantasies with Christmas Knight being a 1998 reprint and Moonrise a novella. Fast-paced and filled with strong characters especially lead protagonists in conflict and love Christina Skye casts a spell on her audience with the coupling of the new and the old.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Nothing else like it!) 『This is the first romance novel I ever read...I was 13. After this book I read EVERTHING of Jude Deveroux. I then went on to read hundreds if not thousands of romances! Eithteen years later this still remains one I my favorite novels.』
(One of my favorite books!) 『I love this book and used to check it out from the library, but I wanted a copy to keep because I know I will want to read it again and again. What a great story from start to finish and I just love the characters. You can't go wrong with this book, you don't want to put it down because you can't wait to see what happens next. This book has humor, history and of course romance. I just love it!』
(Love overcomes abuse throughout the centuries.) 『This is a beautiful love story about two people who take turns crossing over time to save each other from ending up in abusive relationships that could tragically change their lives and the future lives of their descendents.
Douglass Montgomery is unknowingly in an abusive relationship where she is taken for granted and she has terribly low self esteem. When she is abandoned by her boyfriend in an old English church with no money and no passport, her cries are heard by Nicholas Stanford, a dashingly handsome earl, while he is awaiting his execution for a crime he did not commit. When Nicholas first appears beside Douglass, she doesn't believe that he is from the 16th century. Even so, Douglass has a big heart and takes it upon herself to help Nicholas as he seems lost in the the 20th century. As they take on a quest to discover who conspired against Nicholas to cause him to become falsely accused of treason, they fall in love and Douglass begins to learn the true meaning of relationships.
When they begin to plan a life together in the 20th century, Nicholas is returned back to the 16th century and Douglass discovers that the execution still took place as planned. As she cries in the church, she finds herself being carried back to the 16th century to see Nicholas four years prior to his execution. He does not know who she is and believes her to be a witch. With persistance, Douglass remains in Nicholas' life and is able to help change events and steer Nicholas away from relationships that were to lead up to his future of deceipt and doom. Again, their souls reach out to one another as they realize their love for each other has no boundaries.』
(Fascinating, romantic, fun, entertaining) 『In a word, this book is AWESOME. I enjoyed every page except for the first 15 pages. Don't let the first 15 pages make you put the book down; plough through them and you will LOVE the rest of the book. In the first 15 pages, the heroine Dougless was painted as the Ultimate doormat with absolutely no spine nor self-esteem. She let her jerk of a boyfriend take advantage of her and her money. I was afraid that she would make a boring heroine. But, keep reading, because, like I said, the rest of the book was wonderful.
Dougless's worthless boyfriend and evil daughter left her at a church in the English countryside without any money or passport. She mistakenly thought the ass was going to propose to her on this trip to England. She cried and sobbed at the gravesite of Lord Nicholas who died over 400 years ago. Her crying called him to her and you get to read about what he thought of modern day England, and their adventure to solve the mystery of who plotted against Nicholas long ago. Nic and Dougless also falls in love day by day. This is a wonderful TIME travel, Love story, and Mystery, as well as a super fun historical all rolled into one incredibly well written book.
There's more. Not only do you get to see the modern world today through Nicholas' eyes, you get to see historical England through Dougless' eyes too, as she had to go BACK in time to save Nicholas.
I really enjoyed this book and will read more of Jude Deveraux's books. 』
(Jude Deveraux's Best Ever) 『I have read every book by this author and this is her best ever work of fiction. Even my husband loved it and he has never read a Jude Deveraux book. I read this one aloud to him and he still talks about how good it was.』 『
Abandoned by a cruel fate, lovely, thoroughly modern Dougless Montgomery lay weeping upon a cold tombstone in an English church. Suddenly, as if in answer to her prayers, the most extraordinary man appeared.
He was Nicholas Stafford, Earl of Thornwyck...and according to his tombstone he had died in 1564. Tall, broad of shoulder, attired in gleaming silver and gold, he was magnificent. Drawn to his side by a bond so sudden and compelling it overshadowed reason, Dougless knew that Nicholas was nothing less than a miracle: a man who would not seek to change her, who found her perfect, fascinating, just as she was.
Yet she could not imagine how strong were the chains that tied them to the past...or the grand adventure that lay before them....』

It seemed that the first 36 pages could have been reduced to about 10 and we would have gotten all the necessary information without the inane chatter and formulaic, nearly soap operatic situations and discussions about her WEALS training and the death of her brother.
I did find the banter funny between the hero and the heroine since there were misunderstandings based upon how much the language has changed, but that wore thin after a while. The heroine was annoying, and I'm sorry but I don't think any professionally trained SEALS/WEALS would have been such a sarcastic blabbermouth after being taken captive. Illogical behavior and irrelevance abound in this book - or at least the first half because that is as far as I could manage. She even screwed up a basically simple escape plan! Then when she started "fixing" everything, like helping the abused sister Liv and then taking over the unsanitary kitchen - I could barely keep from throwing the book into the fireplace. Give me a break!

(Viking-SEAL formula) 『I love Sandra Hill books. I have them all and there are still characters from previous books whose stories I'm waiting to read.
But this is one's a complete formula. I still liked bits, but I skimmed it pretty fast, because I've read it all before in other books. Unfortunately there wasn't much different with this story: lots of misunderstanding each other's words, fairly quick to the sex and magically falling in love, and easily believe that time travel is a possibility.
I'm still hoping, though that a story more like her early ones will show up. I still go back and read the first Sandra Hill book I ever read: "The Very Verile Viking". It's still hokey and it's still hilarious. 』
(Viking romance) 『accurate in details, funny, romantic, and sexy all at the same time. Exactly what you would expect from a wonderful Sandra Hill book.』
(Let's go a-viking again) 『I agree that this story repeats previous storylines in Hill's viking books, so much so that I thought I had read it before, but it was such fun to read that I still could not put it down. Unlike some of the paranormal, time travel books I have read that take themselves so seriously that they become bogged down in misery, Hill's viking series is enjoyable from beginning to end, even if some events are far from upbeat. If you have not read this series you are missing a great opportunity to read something that makes you smile, cry and be glad you made the purchase. Joy and Brandr are a great couple with terrific chemistry played out with humor and lots of hot scenes. This is one series that does not have to be read from the beginning as each story stands alone and is easily understood not matter where you start. All I can say is you are in for a real treat with Hill's vikings.』
(entertaining Viking-SEAL time travel romance) 『PH.D candidate, psychologist Joy Nelson knows it is the fault of her three older brothers as the tall female has been competing with them since she was twelve years old. She blames the "Three Muska-dopes" (Matt, Jerry and Tom) for her being in mud up to her eyeballs which is not easy to occur with her being just under six feet. Instead of going to Yale she is doing training in order to join the Navy SEALS as Matt was killed by Al-Qaeda while flying for the Air Force and the athletic amazon feels compelled to act.
She though her siblings were the king of testosterone, but she will soon learn they are not even royalty when it comes to male hormonal rages. Instead of SEALS training, somehow Joy finds herself back in 955 on the Norselands at a slave auction in which she is the product for sale. The Igorsson siblings Erland and Arniss buy her as a birthday present for their brother Brandr. Not used to a woman who can almost look him in the eyes, Brandr feels like a berserker when it comes to his new thrall who for Thor's sake is driving him crazy with her insane notions of finding his Valkyrie side; for Odin's sake he is a Viking warrior. However, as she brings a new "Hoo-yah" tradition to the Viking lore, they fall in love though she claims a woman belongs on top.
This is an entertaining entry in the Viking-SEAL time travel romance as the heroine brings joy to the world of Brandr the berserker in heat. The story line is lighthearted fun as Joy brings back modern day psychology theory to the tenth century Vikings. Although the plot is somewhat repetitious of previous entries, Penn State masters graduate Joy refreshes the tale with her beside manners as Sandra Hill provides an amusing entry to her delightful series.
Harriet Klausner 』 『Psychologist Joy Nelson thinks things are bad when she finds herself training in the modern-day female Navy SEALs program. But then her life takes a turn for the worse. Somehow she's been thrust back in time to the cold Norselands, being auctioned off as a thrall, or slave-a gift for a Viking warlord, who would be a perfect candidate for Male Chauvinist Viking of the Centuries.
