(Tortured Hero regains his Faith - Lots of fun!)
(Heaven's Hero) Former cop, Nicco Escavedo, has abandoned his faith in heroes. But, an adventure back in time through a magical mirror to 1500's Italy may be just the thing to soften his hardened heart and restore his sagging faith. But first, he has to survive Lady Isabella Catherine Giovanni.Lady Isabella, dressed as a man in her mail, fought along side the men, defending her land and castillo. She was tough and independent, and needed no man. That is, until her greatest adversary captured her home, held her brother captive, and claimed she would be his. But her connection to Nick, a man who had mysteriously appeared from another time, could lead to her death. Before she could be sentenced as a witch, Lady Isabella and Nick were on the run across time to the 21st century. Only, this time, they had to stop Luccio Landucci from creating murder and mayhem in present-day New York. With all their differences, Nick and Lady Isabella must find and nurture a bond of love that drew them together across time. Fast paced, funny, and entertaining, "Heaven's Hero" is jam packed with clever characters, historical faces, and snappy dialogue. Don't pass this one up! This is the second book in Ms. Shannon's Heaven series. It takes place in our time shortly after Dom and Honor (the hero/heroine of Heaven's Rogue) are spirited back to Renaissance Italy. Time has progressed six years in there, to 1505. Dom and Honor are the parents of two lovely children, a young daughter who is very ill, and small son.The present: Former Police officer Nick Escavido (a major side character in Heaven's Rogue) no longer believes in heroes. He'd followed his conscience and it has cost him his wife, his job, and his faith in the system and in God. No, Nick doesn't believe in angels either, though his brother Ernie insists he's seen one. Their other roommate, Dom's descendant Rafe, could back Ernie up but he doesn't want to talk about it. In spite of everything Nick has still has a good heart. He is his younger brother's self-appointed protector. Ernie is a scholar not a fighter and who because of his alternative lifestyle and slighter build is an easy victim. Nick is worried about Ernie delusions and is on the brink of getting professional help for him. Ernie has been having troublesome dreams regarding Honor. She is pleading to him for help. Her daughter is gravely ill. Isabella, the chatelaine of Castello di Giovanni has attempted to heal the child with her herbal remedies, to no avail. Honor is depending on Ernie to find a way to deliver modern medicines to this day gone by. Ernie has spent his entire inheritance on a "magic" mirror and Nick is deeply worried. His worry turns to shock and wonder as an angel appears and the mirror changes shape. His brother leaps in eagerly and Nick is not fast enough to prevent it. Nick is at a loss as to what to do, but the angel allows him to see what is about to occur. Ernie is in grave danger. Poor Ernie is about to be run to ground by a knight on horseback sporting a large lance. Without hesitation, Nick does what come naturally. He follows to defend his brother. Renaissance Italy 1505: Imagine Nicks surprise when he unseats the knight to find not a ferocious warrior but a stunning young woman. He is even more surprised at the instant chemistry between them. Isabella has enemies though, and is not inclined to trust him. Because of her friendship with Honor and Dom and her love for their sick daughter, she takes Nick and Ernie to see them. This makes a believer out of Nick but he still doesn't want to be a hero. Heaven, however, has a different plan. Ernie is in his element in this age of enlightenment. Even after her friends vouch for the brothers, Isabella is not sure she wants to trust Nick. He is still a threat - to her independence! Isabella Catherine Giovanni is a woman born ahead of her time. She is strong and independent. She alone has protected her lands and her younger brother from the threat of Luccio Landucci an ally of the hated de Medicis. Landucci is power hungry and evil. He will stop at nothing to acquire Giovanni lands and Isabella. Isabella has no wish to be a man's possession. She does not expect to ever wed, but if she did it would be to a man could view her as his equal. She does not believe such a man exists. Nick inspires altogether different feelings in her. He seems to respect her but his protective instincts could be an obstacle to a relationship. Nick knows he must soon return to his own time and begins to wonder if Isabella could be happy with him there. Before Isabella can give him her complete trust, another occurrence makes the decision for her. For the two to be truly happy Nick must learn to believe in heaven, heroes, and the power of love. I enjoyed this story very much. It was a very complete story but left room for a third story about Dom's descendant Rafe who did not appear much in the story but showed a definite uneasiness about the mirror in Ernie's room, and he's also been restless of late. I hope Ms. Shannon will write a story for him. I love big tough, vulnerable heroes and Rafe has definite potential. Besides I think he need to be a hero again to feel good about himself. I have heard whispers of a possible futuristic tale for him, so keep you fingers crossed. A great sequel to Heaven's Rogue! Colleen Shannon has a talent for bringing her characters to life and you feel like you know them personally. At the turn of the century, anything can happen. . . . Once upon a time former cop Nick Escavido believed in heaven and heroes. Until he lost his job, his wife, and his self respect by doing the right thing with the wrong people. Then a magic mirror and a whirlwind journey through time lands him in a bygone age . . . at the feet of the most dangerously alluring female he=s ever met. Lady Isabella Catherine Giovanni dresses like a man, but he soon learns she acts every bit a woman. And as she holds his heart at sword point he discovers that at the dawn of a new age, miracles do happen. To those who believe. To those who dare to be heaven=s hero. customer 's review (Time is not a boundary)
(Pretty Good Story)
(A bookshelf "keeper" if you enjoy the Time-Travel genre!)
(WOW!!!!! A great mind grabber.)
(What an excellent read!) If you enjoy time travel stories, this one is pretty good. Without giving up the plot, love can transend time. This is actually a very early Elaine Fox novel and is not necessarily a contemporary story. This novel shows another side of Elaine's talent and is definitely worth the read. I enjoyed the story - the spunky heroine and a happy ending is always a good thing. Shelby Manning finds an injured man in a Civil War battlefield and he insists he is Lt. Carter Lindsey, Union soldier from 1862. Shelby takes him home and gets him medical help and decides to let him stay at her home until his "amnesia" passes. Shelby boyfriend "Rory' is not happy about the situation, but since it is not his home he can't do anything about it. Rory and Shelby have been dating for 10 years and he stays at her house one or two nights a week. He is a bartender and sometimes Shelby doesn't see him for days and he just shows up in the middle of the night. Carter is a gorgeous man and Shelby finds out he has a wife, or he thinks he does back in the 1800's and she may be pregnant. He says he needs to get back to her even though it isn't a happy marriage, he feels responsible. Carter gets a job with a landscaper who pays him under the table so he can earn his keep and as he and Shelby start getting to know one another, they start falling love. Shelby finds Rory with another woman and breaks off their relationship, but Carter feels his honor will not let him get involved with Shelby. Carter tells Shelby about some hidden jewels from his past that he hopes his wife will find so at least the baby will be provided for and then they discover there is a descendant of Carter's living in the same town. When it is discovered that Carter appeared during the Northern Lights he attempts to go back in time during another appearance of the Northern Lights but it fails. He really wanted to stay with Shelby but is afraid his guilt will eat him up inside. When a fire sends Shelby back to the past she discovers secrets that can save their relationship in the future.
this was a really great story but I'm only giving it four stars because there are some holes in the story that are never really explained. Why did Shelby go back to the past and what reason was there for the events that happened afterwards. To me there were just too many holes in the story, but it was still really good. Just not the best explained or entertaining time travel I've ever read Susan Fox does a masterful job of character development in describing the actions as well as the emotions each is experiencing at the time. Written in first person, the book felt as if a good friend was relating her life to me, resulting in my feeling a personal intimacy with the story line. The author did all this with humor, emotions that were honest and believable, and a charming contrast between the culture mores of today and the Civil War Era. I'm definitely saving this book to reread on another rainy weekend! Absolutely DELIGHTFUL! I just finished reading "Traveler" a few hours ago and couldn't wait to put my two cents in. I love history, I love romance, I love time travel books. This was a geat combination, I didn't want the book to end but I could hardly wait to find out how everything worked out, and the pieces of the puzzle fit together. This is the first book I've read by this Author, it definetly won't be the last. I was actually holding my breath when Meg found Shelby reading her diary!!! This book goes VERY fast. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down. I loved the idea of Shelby's boyfiend, Rory, and Carter's wife, Meg (that element alone made some heavy tension). The romance between these two sizzles. I don't usually like books written in the first person, but this one is exceptional and definitely a "keeper." Strolling through a Civil War battlefield park and musing over her uneventful life, businesswoman Shelby Manning is shocked when she encounters confused soldier Carter Lindsey, who has been transported from the past. (Sexy black eyes !)
(No plot worth reading) Once again Rachel Carrington has written an awesome story. How great would it be to be whisked away to a castle complete with a hot, sexy duke? Choices is a sweet love story full of steamy sex. What more can you ask for? This is one you don't want to miss. Carla Morgan has a life, career, and a domineering family surviving in the year 2004. Jenny,a friend, recues Carla from a family reunion she refuses to go to. The two women travel to an English castle and the fun begins.... Carla falls asleep while reading poetry and wakes up in 1811. In a castle. In a duke's castle. Sinclair, Duke of Heath, widower, owns this castle. Sinclair is dark, dangerous, sexy...an arrogant devil with a sense of humor. What red blooded woman wouldn't fall in love with a man like that ?!! Sinclair just sizzles with heat ! Carla is a woman, given a choice... stay or go back to her old life. She's one very, very lucky woman. The only problem I have with this book was that I was turned off by some of the language that 'Carla' used. It did not add to the book at all. I fell in love with Sinclair's character so much that I was able to dismiss some of the crude remarks. With that said, I still would recommend this book. Enjoy !
Okay, yes this is romance novel. But the plot is barely there. Yes it has sex. But once again, where is the sense in the story line. There is no explanation for how easily everyone excepts time travel in this story. And the sex seem just thrown in and not really any purpose. Choices By Rachel Carrington Visiting an old English castle, Carla Morgan falls asleep with a book of poetry on her lap. And awakens to 19th century England complete with its own Duke. A deliciously arrogant man with more than enough sex appeal to curl her toes and make her forget all about life in 2004. Sinclair, Duke of Heath, doesn't want another wife, but when the village soothsayer tells him Carla Morgan is his destiny, his curiosity is piqued. And while one look at the sleeping vixen on the settee bids him to accept what the fates have decreed, one taste tells him he can do nothing less. With mind-blowing sex to muddy the waters, Carla has to decide where her true destiny lies—in the arms of this duke or with her old boring life. And when the portal opens to enable her to return home, Sinclair makes it very clear he wants her to stay. She never much cared for modern convenience anyway. After all, what good is technology without love and excellent sex. Rerations < Choices >

(I laughed, I bit my nails, I melted...)
(Lots of adventure, sexual tension)
(It Happened One Night)
(An intelligent spell-binding time travel!) After reading a couple of the negative reviews about redundent dialogue and annoying interactions, I didn't know if I would like this book. Boy, am I glad I ignored those reviews!! Kiervan and Alanna were quite a dynamic couple, and I LOVED their interactions.
Alanna, arriving to 19th century Ireland from the 20th century, was such a strong, intense character that never compromised her belief that if she loved, it would be forever. Unfortunately, despite their magnetic attraction to each other, Kiervan only wanted to experience Alanna until the "fires burned out." The fact that he is engaged to marry another woman also posed the biggest challenge between Alanna giving herself to a man who would never be completely hers.
I have to say that throughout the story, there were some great readable moments! I loved her passionate exchanges with Kiervan (as she is a passionate individual), but I also loved her exchanges with other characters in the book. The scene on the boat before she returned to Castle O'Connell was a gem! Both characters evolved and developed, and contrary to one review, there was character growth. They were by no means flat characters!
A good sign of an enjoyable book is being able to sympathize with both characters throughout the story. I understood Alanna's resolve to stay true to her belief of a relationship with a man who could give himself completely, and not share the affections with another woman. I also sympathized with Kiervan's frustration at his attraction for Alanna, but not being able to break his solid oath to marry another.
The last good sign of a good book is when you don't want it to end. I can read a book in a day-and-a-half. This time I slowly read the book, took my time enjoying the characters, and didn't really want to have the book end. I will keep this book and read it again. I'm sure I will see even more in the characters than I did in the first read. Take a gander at this book if you enjoy historical romance novels, with adventure and some of the complexities of love. I bought this book from the grocery store check out lane because the line was long and I was bored. Boy, I wish that happened more often!! This is a first book?? Well written, great story, wonderful characters, some hilarious scenes (especially the one in the Inn,) a good line of tension in the story, and a romance to curl the toes and make the heart melt...what more can a Romance Novel need? Can't wait to see the name Leslie LaFoy on the shelves again. housewife in Ohio After traveling back into time, the heroine finds herself in the middle of the Irish conflict. She and the hero race pell mell over the countryside, escaping all sorts of foes.I found the heroine's reaction to everything believable. She travels back in time, but she doesn't curl up in shock. Instead, she bounces back. The hero is a rogue, but so much more than that. Both the characters have depths and backgrounds that are revealed slowly. The secondary characters are a mixed bag. One bad spot was Kiervan's would-be fiancee. Aaargh! Why did he have to struggle so over the decision about whether to marry her? I gave this book at B+ at All About Romance. I'm tired of the petulant, sulky, angry heroine that is always focused on herself and won't deal with reality. I found myself completely bored with the heroine with in about 10 pages. It was as if the author had cut and paste the same dialog over and over again. It got old very quickly. There was no depth of character, no interest in the new environment or the other people in her world. She was too busy ranting and raving. How interesting is this? Please...I can't bring myself to finish this book. Give me character development like Elizabeth Thornton any day of the week! I'm a big fan of time travel...but I'd never buy a book by this author again. Period. I wasted my money on this book. I was very pleasantly surprised. This is one of the view books that toughed my emotions. It contained humour, suspense, bravado and titillating romance. The characters Alanna and Kiervan had sparks flying. I couldn't put the book down. Thanks Ms. LaFoy for the wonderful read. I look forward to other books. In a spellbinding tale that marks the debut of a born storyteller, a beautiful woman finds herself transported back in time. . . to a world of shimmering desire and heartrending danger. . . .Alanna Chapman knows that no accountant worth her salt would leave town during tax season, but now she has no choice. To honor her aunt's final wishes, the Colorado CPA has come to the mist-shrouded shores of Ireland, intending to stay just long enough to accomplish her mission. But on the mysterious grounds of Carraig Cor, something extraordinary happens: Alanna finds herself catapulted back to the year 1803. Taken for a "seer" who can foretell Ireland's future, she becomes the prisoner of a ruthless privateer...a dangerously attractive sea captain who has no doubt that he can bend this modern temptress to his will, to use her magic powers for his own ends. But when Alanna crossed over to the nineteenth century, she didn't leave her independent spirit behind. Now she's looking for a way to escape the captain's irresistible embrace--and his enemy's notice--before this perilous adventure costs her her heart...and her life. (In/Out of this world!) There aren't many books that manage to suck in two genres, but "The Man From Atlantis" fails as a romance and it fails as a science fiction story. I'm not really surprised, whenever Silhouette authors (or any series romance authors) make an attempt to write sci fi the results are usually spectacularly bad, but usually I'm able to gloss over the crappy parts and enjoy the relationship, but not in this case.Kynan is completely unappealing. I realize that he's been thrown into what he sees as a strange and barbaric world, but he comes off like an arrogant prick. Let all of us primitive people bow before your superiority, you god of a man. Bleh. The heroine, Jenna, is okay but she's really, really vanilla. After I was done reading the book I couldn't remember a single thing that she had done or said. She was that dull. I won't spoil the ending for whoever might be bored enough to read this (as if it's possible to spoil something this bad. Reading it is like trying to drink milk that has turned) but Kynan will be faced with a choice: leave Earth to be with his people or stay with Jenna. By the last chapter I was ready to bankroll the mission myself. Get the hell off our planet you bastard, and stay off! Blending ancient myths and her own cleverly crafted ideas of Atlantean society, Judith McWilliam's The Man From Atlantis was enthralling from cover to cover! The relationship between the main characters was well developed, the "bad guy" was allowed a round, human personality, and the scenes were vivid and imaginative. In the Man From Atlantis, McWilliams blends science fiction elements with romance and passion into a surprisingly realistic novel. MAN, MYTH . . . LEGENDHe had inhabited a world destroyed ten thousand years ago -- Atlantis, a place now lost to him forever. Kept alive in a state of suspended animation, Kynan awoke to find a more primitive Earth and only one woman to help him fight those who would destroy him. Archaeologist Jenna Farron had uncovered a man like no other, a man who sent her senses soaring and left her breathless with passion . . . and despair. Though she longed to surrender herself to Kynan's powerful embrace, she feared he would be forever torn from her once he found others like himself. In a frantic search to find a lost civilization, they would face a most desperate choice: destiny or desire? Rerations < Timetwist: The Man from Atlantis >

customer 's review (A TIME TO REMEMBER...)
(I loved it!!!)
(a good book with a suprise ending)
(Interesting, but....)
(An enjoyable book !) Those readers who like time travel romances will find much to enjoy in this book. The plot is interesting with a couple of twists and turns in the tale. It is relatively well-written with a certain amount of charm and humor permeating its pages.
Francine Peabody is a prim young miss living in relative comfort in Southern California in 1998. Engaged to be married and working as an accountant, Francine has a predictable future looming before her. Others, however, have something else in store for her. When her eccentric, elderly neighbor wants Francine to put on an old emerald necklace of her and say that she is willing to go to the year 1214 in order to help civilize mankind, Francine humors her, only to suddenly find herself on an adventure of a lifetime.
Transported to the year 1214, Francine meets up with Lord Garrick, a knight with secrets of his own. A brave, though rough-around-the-edges knight who initially sees Francine as a nuisance, Garrick finds himself strangely drawn to Francine, despite his vow to never fall in love. Francine also finds herself responding to Garrick in a way no engaged woman should respond to another man.
This well-plotted time travel romance will be enjoyed by fans of the genre. It is a funny and charming time travel romance that will keep the reader turning the pages. Although slow to start I loved this book. It is the first of Angie Ray's books I have read, but it won't be the last. The twist at the end of the story was brilliant. Usually I can tell what is going to happen, but I love it when I am surprised by some twist in the tale, like this one. After finishing I checked on the other book I have by Angie "My lady in time". I was wondering after seeing the name of the hero of that book and where it is based if the two books are in some way connected. Can some one please tell me in what order I should have read them? I think My lady in time was released before A knight to cherish. I'm going to have to read My lady to find out if i'm right. I tried to find out from Angie's website but the url in the book does not seem to be working. I would appreciate it if someone could send me her website address, I want to find out about all her other books. She is a marvelous writer and I for one will keep looking out for her books. I enjoyed this book even though it was a bit slow at the start. It had humor and serious scenes that were evenly matched. This is the story of Francine a very geeky accountant in 1998 who is about to be married to a geeky accountant that she works for. She has a verry eccetric old neighbor who is always asking her to help her with some project or another. Well this latest project transports her back in time to England in the year 1214!. In order for her to return to her time she must "Civilize" the people here. But here is controlled by the Lord of the keep. Garrick. He's very brave but has a problem that keeps him from falling in love with any woman. Francine must get past his brutish ways to help these people and to get to the heart of Garrick's problem. Along the way she finds new friends and even starts to enjoy herself. She also finds herself more and more attracted to Garrick, who is also fighting his passion for her. Together they must compromise to bring Civilization and love to this brutal time. I enjoyed this book and was really suprised at the end. I hope to read other books by this author. I had a hard time getting caught up in the story. The writing in of itself was fine, but the two main characters couldn't seem to capture my interest. They seemed two dementional to me. Now, I realize that not every writer is going to be for every person, so I give it three stars for writing, plot imagination and the twist at the end. This is the first book by Angie Ray that I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope to read many more ! While one must always check facts at the door when reading time travel romance, this one was both romantic and altruistic. You *wanted* to believe that this was possible !I enjoyed the main characters of Francine and Garrick very much. Their verbal sparring, their profound attraction towards one another and their day to day life in medieval times was great fun to read. I especially enjoyed the completely surprising twist at the end of this book. I was most certainly not expecting it ! That said, I was thoroughly confused by the characters of Anne and Raphael. I didn't really understand who or what they were. I also didn't understand the role they played in the time travel experience. This is the only reason I didn't give A KNIGHT TO CHERISH 5 stars. customer 's review (A perfectly charming and exciting time travel romance)
(Too many loose ends)
(Ghosts + Reincarnation +Time Travel = Solid Entertainment)
(The exception that proves the rule)
(Enjoyable...but) Claire Peltier keeps having dreams of a man she doesn't know but who elicits emotions in her that make all other relationships she's ever had pale in comparison. As a result, Claire calls off her wedding because she feels it isn't fair to marry one man when her dreams are filled with another. Claire is haunted by these dreams and feels that it is important to solve the mystery of the man who keeps appearing in her dreams. Claire thinks that she may be reincarnated and the mystery man is from her past life. Also, Claire is occasionally visited by a ghost who never speaks a word. One evening, the ghost visits Claire but this time she dares to touch the ghost. The touch elicits a vision of a man kneeling in the center of a circle of inlaid stones on a flagstone floor. He raises his head and Claire sees that he is the man who haunts her dreams. The vision disappears but the ghost is still there. A magazine lifts itself from a rack and the pages are flipped and stop at a page containing a picture of a circle of inlaid stones on a flagstaff floor that looks exactly like the one in her vision. Above the picture is a caption: The Ancient Labyrinth of Chartres Cathedral, France.
The man who haunts her dreams is Aiden Delacroix. Aiden needs a wife so he can have an heir to the Delacroix Castle, but no woman in his time will accommodate his need because they believe the ghost of his former mistress haunts him and brings misfortune to everyone associated with him.
Claire takes a plane to France and visits the Chartres Cathedral with the hope of finding out who the mystery man of her dreams is. When visiting the cathedral, the ghost appears and leads Claire through the labyrinth. When Claire takes the last step into the center of the labyrinth she is unknowingly transported back in time to the year 1202 and finds herself standing in front of her mystery man as he is kneeling in the center of the labyrinth just as she had seen him in her vision. She reaches out to touch him and discovers that he is a real man, not the ethereal form she had always seen in her visions.
Throughout the story, Claire and Aiden try to determine why fate has brought them together from two different times and what is in store for them.
Sandra Landry has weaved a set of charming and exciting details into a suspenseful and mysterious tale that kept me guessing (and entertained) from the beginning of the book and right up to the last page.
Claire is a strong willed and independent young woman who knows what she wants and never settles for less. Aiden is a perfect hero. He is strong, an excellent swordsman, and has to rescue Claire on several occasions as she risks everything to determine the mystery of their fates. Aiden always treats Claire with the utmost of respect and is determined to get Claire to marry him. The sexual tension between the two keeps escalating until they can no longer resist and eventually yield to their desires.
The mechanism that transports Claire into the past is simple and not filled with boring scientific explanations. One of the many entertaining parts in The Last Bride is when Claire is transported to 1202. She isn't aware of her time travel and when she leaves the cathedral she wonders why there are no streetlights, why her hotel is not where it's supposed to be, and why her cell phone won't work. Then Claire finds herself the cause of a sword fight between Aiden and drunks in an inn who had accosted Claire. Later, Claire realizes that Aiden is not the reincarnated man from her past but is the man himself.
Sandra Landry has written a perfectly charming, exciting and believable time travel romance. I enjoyed the read so much that I can't wait for another tale. The Last Bride is a great and entertaining read and I highly recommend it.
This was the worst time travel romance that I have ever read. I had to force myself to finish it. Don't waste your money. In modern day New Orleans, Claire Peltier has just tossed aside a perfectly good fiancé - a man who loved her, treated her very well, but whom she just couldn't feel the passion that she knew deep in her soul belonged to the man who haunted her dreams. Along with being haunted by dreams, Claire was also visited rather regularly by a ghost. Only now the ghost seemed to be giving Claire clues that would send her on a journey to unlock the visions from her dreams. Traveling to France, Claire followed her instincts and her ghost, and found herself transported back to the Middle Ages where she came face to face with the man of her dreams.
Aiden Delacroix was a lonely tortured man. His sense of loss over the death of his mistress and wife that were attributed to the hauntings of a vengeful ghost had left its mark. With no wife or heir, and no woman even considering marriage to him; his fight to pass on his families' legacy would be for naught, as he would surely lose his lands to his enemy. As a last resort, Aidan went on a pilgrimage to a sacred shrine where there appeared before him a woman so beautiful Aiden impulsively proposed marriage.
While Claire recognized Aiden as the man of her dreams, his very touch brought a vision of such heartache that she refused his offer. Then again, she wasn't quite cognizant that she'd been transported back in time, and thought him a bit crazy. When it did finally dawn on her that she wasn't in her modern time, she agreed to let him help her. Soon after she would realize that she'd been brought back not only to answer questions regarding her own mysterious longings, but to right a wrong and regain a love that was meant to be.
*** This was a full-bodied, fully satisfying tale of time travel, reincarnation, and a heady romance all rolled into one totally mesmerizing read that will capture you from the very first pages. Claire and Aiden were extremely well-drawn. Aiden was wonderful, even though he sensed that Claire was different -- his acceptance, kindness and gentle ways were the stuff dreams are made of - in essence a perfect hero! In this second chance at a love that was meant to be that transcended all time, Landry pulled out all the stops and presented her readers with a perfectly wonderful read. Highly recommended! --- Marilyn, for [...] --- Normally, I get irritated with romances containing ghosts and/or reincarnation, but that wasn't the case with The Last Bride. It's got ghosts. It's got reincarnation. And the time-travel ties them together. But it works. The ghosts&reincarnation are PART OF THE STORY. And it doesn't go off on long boring tangents about something that happened to some dead people who nobody cares about because they were thoroughly unlikeable. Er. Speaking of tangents. Anyway.
Claire calls off her engagement because of the man who haunts her dreams, and then follows a ghost's clues to a labyrinth in France, where she ends up in the past, and meets Aiden, the man from her dreams, who's gone on a pilgrimage to the labyrinth to ask for guidance in dealing with his own ghost.
The good: Claire's reaction to the time travel was great--very realistic. All the paranormal elements are integral to the plot. Aiden is a great tortured hero--everyone, including Aiden, believes that his wife had been killed by the ghost of his mistress, who'd killed herself rather than live without him, yet his concern for his people makes him want to find a wife to give him an heir, even though he doesn't feel he deserves it.
The bad: A couple of threads were left dangling at the end, that should have been wrapped up.
The verdict: A paranormal, time-travel romance that's entertaining and believable. At the end of this book I did not have the "WOW"! feeling that I had after reading 'The Wishing Chalice', (Ms. Landry's second book). There were a few loose ends - not the least of which was the issue of Nick (Claire's brother in our time) being left with no clue as to what happened to his sister after her impulsive dash to France, and subsequent disappearance from the face of the Earth (our time) - iron box of possessions notwithstanding. I mean, what are the chances that said box would find its way to Nick in the 21st century???). Then, there is the issue of Claire being barren, which in the Middle Ages is a sure ticket to spinsterhood, or worst, being 'done away with' by a disappointed husband. I felt that Aiden was cheated in this - being that that was the whole reason behind his urgent (and emotionally painful) quest for a wife. I'm still confused about the ghosts angle - why guide Claire all the way back in time to Aiden, and then try and kill her?? Was Claire's childhood ghost Cherise? Or Meridith? The description is that of Cherise (confirmed by Aiden), yet we're told later on that it was in fact Meridith. In the Epilogue, Jasper reappears - no explanation as to where he had hie himself off to, or how he survived after leaving Delacroix castle. So, although I enjoyed it (I thought Aiden made a great hero: brave, kind, patient, sexy, and vulnerable; he'd been through a terrible 10 years of scorn and ridicule by everyone - totally unfounded!). I liked Clair's physical description; being a big girl myself ( five-ten with bones to match!), I've had my fill of the petite child-brides that some female writers of romance (and some other genre) seem to think are so appealing to us readers. All in all a good read - Ms. Landry weaves a good story, and there's enough to snag and keep your interest if you don't look too closely at the details. I'm on the hunt for Ms Landry's first book (2000) ('A Perfect Love'). Claire Peltier is convinced that the man who haunts her dreams was her lover in a past life. Determined to unravel the mystery surrounding him, she follows her instincts to France, where she suddenly finds herself transported back to the Middle Ages and face to face with the man of her dreams. customer 's review (I liked it a little)
(5 stars and here's why:)
(Average&a bit wishy washy)
(an enjoyable light read!)
(an enjoyable light read!) This book could have been better. I would of liked the story of John and Sidney as a whole book. I was much more interested in their story than Kane's and Katharina's. But this book was pretty interesting so I can't give it any less than three stars. If you like time travel romances, pick this one up. I gave this book 5 stars, because it made me cry. I think this is only the 2nd romance I've read that made me cry. The part in the book I am referring to is any part where Richard&Misty are involved. The Katharina&Kane story was beautiful, but I was also captivated by Richard&Misty and John&Sidney. I wish there had been more of John&Sidney. Now, I do remember at least 2 inconsistencies in the book, one where it was said that John was a cousin, then later in the book, it was said that he was their uncle, and a scene where Richard aids Misty in finding the castle, in the evening, but when she enters the library where Katharina& Kane are, it is suddenly the afternoon of the next day. Go figure. But I won't let these boo-boo's effect how I feel about the book. Definitely 5 stars all the way. The characters in this book jump into love almost instantly. Its very old fashioned. The hero spends most of his time trying to resist the heroine&then jumping her bones. The love scenes are vague¬ very inspiring. The story of is a nice one, but I don't think I would buy another of this auhtors books I enjoyed this book and the main characters. The changes and learning process the hero goes through really makes you cheer for him. The leading lady is a strong well defined character, who handles landing in another time and place believeably...(i.e., confusion, disbelief, anger, despair)... Why they say she is manacled to a wall in his bedroom is confusing, for that isnt the case, she gets thrown in the dungeon. All in all, this is a very good book, but its lacking something. Maybe too much paranoia about her being deemed a witch, I'm not sure, but its worth reading. I enjoyed this book and the main characters. But a wrong turn in the right place and the haunted English castle she was touring was suddenly full of life--and so was the man bathing before her. Standing accused of spying on the loyalist Lord Sedgewick when she was really just ogling, Katharina was tossed in the dungeon. But how to convince Lord Sedgewick that she's traveled across time, not that she's not a witch. Rerations < Lady of the Night (Timeswept) >
