Sucked through a whirlpool while diving for sunken treasure, Tess Bonney was transported back through time to find herself about to be sold to the highest bidder! Then dashing buccaneer Richard Neville came to her rescue, and the real adventure began.
A seventeenth-century pirate should be pillaging and philandering, yet Richard found himself saving Tess, allowing her to tend his wounded body and tortured soul. And though the rules of the high seas forbade him to give his heart to anyone, Tess was a siren he could not ignore.
But would their newfound passion stop the tides of time that were bound to beckon Tess home?』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Communication Problems Mar Plot) 『This book showed promise. The author deftly shows the differences between the Regency era and the modern era by the responses of her modern-day heroine and Regency-era hero. However, the miscommunications bewteen the Leah and David kept the book from getting a higher grade.
We get some insight into David's character. But we didn't get to know Leah that well. By the time we learned her background, it didn't jive with the way she acted.
At All About Romance, I gave this book a C.』
(disappointing) 『I'm sorry to have to disagree with the other reviews. I am an avid reader and enjoy most time travel romances. However I found this book to be boring without much character development.I found it difficult to believe their romance and actually had difficulty finishing the book. I'm sorry to say I won't be looking for this author's name again.』
(Not as romantic as i thought it would be) 『the story and everything was good and surprisingly well written, but the relationship between Leah and David was only about two beautiful people trying to find someone who would rival their own beauty. Their love is about as shallow as the spring itself.』
(GREAT READ!!) 『I have now read over 100 time travel books and this is one of my favorites. I am on line now looking to see if she wrote anymore.』 『Be careful what you wish for... England, 1999. American tourist Leah Cantrell finds an antique coin in a spring--and tosses it back, wishing to know who'd first placed it there... England, 1815. David Traymore, illegitimate son of a Marquis, has always dreamed of belonging to someone. Then he rescues a beguiling woman of strange attire from a spring on the estate. Is she a madwoman? A spy for Napoleon? Or simply the woman of his dreams?』

And while the next few pages were somewhat bumpy (for me, at least), the drive to know the secret kept me going. The secret is revealed sooner than you think, but by then curiosity is replaced by character empathy.
The main character isn't Professor Hayden, although the mysterious Professor is central to the plot. Charles "Chuck" Mandrin meets and falls for Sally Hetzel at the start of the book. Not long after, she is in a horrible wreck and left comatose. And so Chuck embarks on a quest for answers, and a 'firestone' which will save Sally's life.
But Sally's condition isn't his only problem. His quest, companians and family lineage all put him in the line of fire from a paranoid government. Of course, it was also the 1950s - for most of the story anyway. This book seemed slow in some parts due to too much explanation. It kind of reminded me of "Sophie's World" by Jostein Gaarder. Except instead of philosophy there was a lot of spiritual info packed into a fictional story.
4 stars because I would read the author again. The story was interesting overall and made me care about the characters.』
(Wow; unbelievable!) 『There are annoyances in this writing which fails to make it literature. Yet, Dan Brown's stories also fall way short as well. The plot is suspenseful with a lot of unsuspecting twists and turns. There's never a dull moment and the extensive research on mind over matter and creationism blows my mind.
I don't know anything about the Shriners or Masons, but Shingleton seems to know all about them. There's no way of knowing if what is disclosed is true or mad up. Yet, after reading Dan Brown's 'The Lost Symbol' and now adding some of the secret information from this book, I can almost feel their power and mission to take over society and our future.
The real long speech in the middle of the story was something to skip over; except, I started reading it and imagined listening to this high ranking fMason up on stage lecturing the audience. Perhaps others would find it boring, but I don't see how. It left an impression. There happens to be answers to a lot of life's questions contained in it. As unlikely as it souns, I actually sat down and re-read this chapter after finishing the book.
Normally, I would have to rank this as maybe four out of five, but the speech brings it back up to a five (what can I say).』
(A must read!) 『The novel discusses various scientific and spiritual ideas rooted in mind expansion, time travel, and search for life's purpose. Main characters undertake a journey to retrieve the Atlantian Fire Stone in the jungles of Guatemala; a supernatural device predicted to be discovered by America's prophet, (probably Edgar Cayce). The story is a first-person narrative of the narrator's confusion about his existence. He is a devout atheist remembering a past life; a reincarnation of a powerful member of an ancient civilization. The book discusses time travel in scientific terms. Spiritual ideas are intermingled establishing a divine connection and ultimately an in depth discussion about human potential, purpose, and destiny. The setting is shortly after WWII at a college campus in California. Charles Mandrin, an ROTC cadet, is the narrator who meets a female student. In his mind, she became the most beautiful, charming woman he ever met; a mysterious attraction and uncontrollable love at first sight scenario. Sadly, his dream girl tragically ends up fighting to recover from a traffic accident. His professor, a high-ranking member of Freemasonry, who teaches science courses and an elective class titled Ancient Studies, warns him not to pry into his life; a warning that should have been honored. The narrator learns of secrets that this Freemason conceals. Powers to heal his girl friend's damaged mind is known by the professor. These secrets are also known by a mentally deranged student who plays the game of offering clues in exchange for certain favors. Powers to heal was only possible if the discovered Fire Stone could be dissected utilizing intrinsic spiritual molecules. The narrator experiences complex convoluted events learning his brother was not AWOL. He actually disappeared due to a failed time-warp experiment conducted on board the USS Eldridge in Philadelphia harbor in 1943. Secrets about this incident and the true identity of his professor were known by the mentally deranged student. He slowly revealed but misinterpreted events causing members of secret societies and governmental agencies to become suspicious of the narrator, charging him with espionage. The Fire Stone was stolen by Guatemalan politicians demanding a huge ransom for its recovery. Difficult times were experienced but the device was finally brought to Mexico City. The only possible way his girl friend's life could be saved was possible when her parents brought her to the hospital in this city to receive treatment utilizing the Fire Stone technology. Authorities were seeking arrest; red-baiting the narrator as a communist spy. Secret societies were also in hot pursuit looking for the son of a brilliant Nazi scientist. They did not realize the deranged student was actually the target of their aggression. His father was a German Physicist who perfected time projection and managed to transfer his son from 1943 to 1948 to escape from the Nazis. Eventually, the professor sets up a time projection device incorporating the Fire Stone allowing the red-baited students to be transferred into the future escaping the authority's pursuit. Something went wrong. The narrator and his girl friend ended up in a time and place far away. Atheistic beliefs changed when there was realization where they were; the Kingdom of God. The Kingdom is pure and not governed by any of man's failed systems. No, this one is instituted by God without Satan. His rule is finished. Charles Mandrin reunites with his brother in this realm but learns of his former ancient identity. As a gifted resurrected saint, his role is of major importance in developing the Kingdom. He finally meets his former professor and discovers his true identity and importance. A major rebuilding effort and social restructuring under divine guidance became the new way of life that Charles Mandrin shared, in deep love, with his destined soul mate. Using an adventure parable approach, the story creates a model for questioning human reasoning, spiritual perceptions, truth and destiny. The author apparently visits high energy vortexes, spending a lot of time in Sedona, Arizona; from what I understand. This is a place of special significance and beauty. Much of the book was evidently inspired and written there. Groundbreaking religious and scientific theory is woven throughout. There is much discussion about the nature of man; wondering about whom we are, where we are, where we are going and what purpose do we serve. Ultimately, human potential remains a mystery. Perhaps this story, however, answers some of those questions.
』
(Secret Society of Freemasons) 『Scattered throughout this story is information about Freemasonry and an offshoot; Shriners. I know a few Masons, though I'm not one. The main character has a rank higher than 33 degrees which most likely creates a secret society. The 32nd degree Masons I know either keep secrets to themselves or have no idea what is going on. It seems simple questions have no answers. For instance, "what is a Shriner?" Neither one could tell me. Actually, the book is correct. A Shriner is a Master Mason first and this qualifies for membership in Shriners. To clarify a few mysteries and what actually makes this entire story so intriguing, is the actual origin of the fraternity. There's mention in the story that it may have began as far back as John the Baptist. Funny; according to the 'History Channel's two hour program on the subject, the first secret was in the hands of the 'widower's son' back during the construction of King Solomon's Temple. Ironically, the story's main character, a supreme high ranking Mason, turns out to be King Solomon's father. King David was given the design by God but it was his son who built it. All Masonic Lodges apparently carry the same geometry and sacred proportions as the the original temple (wow). Even more bizarre are the secret rituals that no one knows anything about. According to the TV program, the initiation and other classified celebrations all center on the concept of death and a resurrection or being born again into a new phase of consciousness or understanding. Again, the whole story is uniquely presented this way and that alone makes one REALLY curious about Masons and their future destiny. The time frame of the story, too, celebrates many celebrety Masons. There certainly seem to be a whole lot. Duke Elington was one, but he wasn't mentioned.

(Its in the book) 『Well the title of this review says it all. As I go through my daily routine, subjects pop up in conversations and I keep thinking 'Hey that was in the book.' Its uncanny how Gerald wove so many of the misteries of the universe into one story while providing a new context to ponder them.』 『In the post-war 1950s, when a Communist was hiding behind every corner, anti-religious rhetoric began infiltrating America. It was Satan who tested the resolve of atheist Charles Mandrin in this powerful drama written by Gerald Shingleton. The story is set on a California college campus in 1950, with all the events, characters and developments of those "good old days" interwoven into the evil fascism that was entering the consciousness of the Western world. Mandrin studies the mysteries of the universe and becomes obsessed with how he believes the world is being deceived. But Mandrin himself becomes fanatical when he falls for a freshman "bombshell," who's seriously injured in a car accident. To save her life, he heads for the Guatemalan jungles to find a mysterious crystal that's supposed to effect miracle cures. But the FBI learns of his exploits and is hot on his trail. To avoid capture, he uses the crystal's power to project into the future. Unfortunately, the target date is bypassed and Mandrin and his soul mate end up in an unfamiliar time and place.』 タイトル『 McKnight's Revenge >

『It is the family vacation of a lifetime. A trip on a genuine wagon train headed west across the Great Plains of Kansas. The brochure promises adventure, realism and romance, but it says nothing about the possibility that your entire caravan of more than forty twenty-first century pioneers could become unwilling participants in a REAL trek west; a trip that is destined to take place in the year 1845; a trip that will test your stamina and courage as you cross endless deserts, towering peaks and raging rivers. Add to that a prairie fire and a ghostly caravan of immigrants who trudge through your circled corral of wagons and disappear into the endless void of a night sky. Then suddenly, gun shots. The cry of snarling wolves, and a man dressed in buckskin. He identifies himself as Luke Skinner, the most infamous wagon pilot ever to cross the Great Divide. He's the crazy one, right? He and his wagon train of four hundred determined immigrants are the ones living in the past. Or are you?』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (I LOVE this book) 『Oh, why aren't there more time travel romances? This book is soooo good. The heroine has the heart of gold and is feisty to boot. The hero takes a while to turn around but when he does, she never has a chance! I think what I really enjoyed about this book was the fact that the hero dislikes the heroine for good reason but becasue she has changed (since the time travel) he can't help himself from wanting her eventhough he thinks she is a terrible person. His emotions as he is torn by these conflicting feelings make the reader feel how much he cares for the heroine. 2 characters who deserve each other! When is this author going to write more books?!』

(It'll Stay on My Shelf) 『Sarah Jane Tremont's life is changed when she is hurled back through time to Wyoming Territory in 1888. Disoriented and mistaken for a woman nobody likes, Sarah does her best to cope with the situation. It doesn't help that John Beckett, who has plenty reason to hate "Sarah One," is the first person she meets.
Sarah needs to find out why she was brought back to John's time, and if she can go home. She has information that will make a difference for a poor family in her own time, and she's the only one who can tell them. Go or stay, find love or find peace, Sarah must make life-altering choices, and there are more lives than hers that will be altered.
Long's portrayal of a 19th century frontier town is genuine and refreshing, with a cast of unique characters typical of a small town's makeup. Her descriptions put the reader into the scene, allowing them to get a good mental image of the area and action.
Most of the characters are strong in their own right. However, Sarah appears to be somewhat passive in certain instances. In trying to fit in as her evil namesake, she allows the image to get too personal. Fortunately, Sarah shows enough gumption to make tough decisions and follow through as best as she can, given the circumstances.
Long gets four stars for an honest tale told with panache.

(Great Time Travel Romance) 『I havent read a time travel romance in a while. I really didnt have a liking towards them. But this one by Beverly Long was great! Sarah Jane is walking the beach, and bam, ends up in the Wyoming Territory, 1888. Not California, 2005. At first, she assumes she is in Heaven then she meets John Beckett who thinks Sarah is the same Sarah who married his brother Peter and killed him, then took off with Peter's money. John eventually likes this Sarah, thinking the old Sarah has changed. In the end, he finds out Sarah is from 2005 and doesnt want her to leave him in 1888 all alone. This a great romance and a great new author as well.』 『Unforgettable passion from a talented new Sensation author.
Something strange has happened to Sarah Jane Tremont. One moment, she was walking along a beach outside Los Angeles. The next, she was wandering through Wyoming Territory, 1888, taken in by a rugged cowboy whose wounded heart she believes she is destined to heal.』

(Female friendship as important as romance) 『I also liked that this book has a strong relationship between Maddie and her father and Maddie and her aunt. Actually, my favorite character was the middle-aged Aunt Margaret, a person totally comfortable with who she is. I enjoyed Patrick and Maddie's discussion in Chapter 10 about the importance of men and women finding a profession they love--and if that passion is teaching an appreciation of history, so much the better! The French Creole and Irish phrases scattered through, plus quaint terms of yesteryear such as "mitten money" added greatly to the book.』
