(Unique love story)

(Good reading)

(Paranormal at its best!)

(Heatherfield An Unusual Read)

(M Jean Pike does it again)
In M. Jean Pike's novel Heatherfield, devoted couselor Tory Sasser is on her way to help a client during one of her more vulnerable moments when Tory's car spins out of control, and she finds herself in Heatherfield, in 1949. This was the setting of the book Tory read earlier in the evening, a novel that it seemed Fate wanted Tory to read. Jake Benjamin, a sensitive loner, helps Tory get her bearings and offers to let her stay on his property. The two slowly develop feelings for each other, and Tory is torn between her newfound love and the desire to get back to her familiar 1999 life. This very interesting premise drew me to the book, and I'm glad it did. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could, but since I can't, and the good qualities of the book far outweigh the minor flaws, I gave it 5. I love that the character Jake is willing to show emotion, even crying a time or two in the book, which is refreshing in a romance. More often, the heroine's object of interest is a macho alpha male, but Jake is a real, relatable character. Some parts toward the end of the story became a bit convoluted, but the loose ends are tied up by the epilogue, and it was a satisfying ending to me. I'd recommend this book to just about anyone!
Good reading. Well written. Keeps reader interested waiting to see what happens next.
M. Jean Pike creates magic when she writes, and this story is proof of it. Heatherfield is one of the most amazing stories I've read in a long time. I highly recommend it not only for the romance reader, but the mystery, historical, suspense, and paranormal enthusiasts. It's just that good.
Normally, I love time travel books, but this one was a little too strange for me to get my mind around. A person who starts reading a book and becomes the book, Kind of like Harry Potter but in a romance venue. Luckily it was a short book and I finished it.
M. Jean Pike has done it again with her novel Heatherfield following her delightful book, Waiting for the Rain. Meet Tory Sasser, a young woman who feels frustrated in her work as a counselor and loves to read. When she stops into her favorite bookstore, she's given an unfinished romance novel. As she finishes the book, her tears turn into new writing on the pages. Tory is pulled into the novel and she realizes she is now in a fictional town called Heatherfield and the year is 1949. The town is a creation of Destiny Page, a bad romance writer. Tory meets Jake Benjamin, a war veteran who lives alone as a recluse. Tory must help the residents of the town fight an evil developer while trying to find a way out for herself.
Jean Pike does an admirable job creating believable characters with a credible plot. I found myself unable to put this book down and finished it quickly. This is an engrossing tale of love, romance, and drama. And yes, I am a male reading a romance novel. This book is not a sappy romance novel, it is a nice breath of fresh air and anyone will enjoy it. I eagerly await her next book.

Where her heart is, there will she be also ... Deep in a box of used books, counselor Tory Sasser comes across a novel without an ending: Heatherfield. As she reads the story of scarred war veteran, Jake Benjamin, her tears fall on the pages-and she could swear new words appear where once there was nothing. But the fictional town of Heatherfield isn't all it seems, nor is its creator, Destiny Paige. When Tory's car runs off the road into the mist, she's transported back to the 1940s-into the novel, trapped by the spirits that govern the place through Destiny. Even more, Tory is caught by the honest warmth and complicated tenderness that is Jake Benjamin. Realizing she's falling in love with Jake, Tory is desperate to find her way back home to reality. Yet what is more real than true love? No, Heatherfield isn't all it seems ... not at all. Reviews and Other Information: "M. Jean Pike has captured a chiller of a paranormal romance in her astounding tale Heatherfield... Her vision of the late forties is incredible. Mingled with flashbacks of war, beautiful mountain scenery and a horrible car accident, the images were vividly colorful and just plain stunning. This is a unique romance that will make you laugh, chill you with "gooseflesh" and bring tears to youreyes." Angela Steed, Author of 1080 Kiss. "Heatherfield yields a great plot with complex characters that keep the story moving at a steady pace. I was deeply moved by Jake and what he has suffered during the war. Tory is a refreshing woman who had me on the edge of my seat wondering her outcome in this story with the past and the present. M. Jean Pike weaves a spellbinding page-turner read. The story is beautifully told." Cherokee Sanders, Coffee Time Romance. "Heatherfield is an interesting paranormal tale with a unique and surprising ending. That the ending caught me unawares is an understatement, in fact, Heatherfield reminded me of a TWILIGHT ZONE episode ... The romance between Tory and Jake is delightful and the descriptions of Heatherfield and its populace are so vibrant, that I felt transported there." Marlene Breakfield, Paranormal Romance Reviews.

(Nice escape for one story (4 stars). Only ok for second story (3 stars).)

(Two that sizzle)

(Loved Kieran the Black!)

(Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!)

I like both stories but i gravitate to Julie Black's story more .....Good read very entertaining.

God of Fire by Jaid Black (4 stars):
Fun and enjoyable. This was one of the first stories Jaid wrote and is a little less explicit than her later works. The gods are being mischievous among themselves. They bring Dara from the future 2003 to Ragnar, a Viking in 820 AD. He needs to get her pregnant within 3 months to meet the gods' requests. It was a nice escape for romance and sex.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: sixteen. Setting 2003 Ohio US and 820 AD Norway. Copyright: 2000. Genre: time travel and paranormal romance.

Kieran The Black by Julia Templeton (3 stars):
Ok story, but it was lacking in emotional fulfillment for me. There were a lot of sex scenes, but they were pretty similar to each other. I like erotic stories but I prefer those which have something else like laughter, surprise, witty conversation, anticipation of an emotional relationship or feelings of fulfillment. This story was missing something for me.

Story brief: Current day Lizzie time travels to 1067 where she finds herself as the wife of Kieran the Black. The wife she replaced hated him and was still a virgin. She flirts with Kieran and his knights. She initiates sex with him. They have a great relationship. She tries to prevent his early death by warning him that he will be killed by his own knight Hugh.

Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: twelve. Setting: current day and 1067 England. Copyright: 2003. Genre: erotic time travel romance.

In Warrior, Jaid Black and Julia Templeton present a pair of erotic time travel novels that sizzle with sensuality as they capture reader interest.

Templeton's Kieran the Black catapults our 39-year-old modern heroine Lizzie, an unhappy journalist betrayed by her former husband, into 1067 England, where she is suddenly inside the body of Lady Elizabeth, an 18-year-old Saxon maid forced to marry her Norman conqueror Kieran the Black. While the real Elizabeth despised the handsome and high-principled warrior, Lizzie is impressed by his kindness, integrity, and overwhelmingly arousing huge physical presence. She soon wins him over with her refreshing humor and audacity as well as her considerable feminine charms, and they embark on a passionate relationship. But can she save him from the traitorous death that was to be his fate?

Templeton takes a fun premise and weaves a fast-paced story with likeable characters and plenty of action. She also evokes a believable feeling of medieval life while showing the fascinating way a modern woman might survive and even flourish in such an environment. Kieran the Black is a thoroughly likable and engaging sensual romp.

Black's God of Fire is another passionate time-travel treat, a fairy tale that whisks unhappy modern Dara back to 820 Norway where she is forced to marry irresistible hunk Ragnar Valkraad. Ragnar, a powerful warrior capable of deep affection, has been ordered by the goddess Frigg to marry Dara and within one year to have a child, or no more warriors will be allowed into Valhalla, the god Odin's warrior heaven. Frigg, furious with her philandering husband Odin, has hatched a vengeful scheme to keep his beloved warriors out of Valhalla, since Ragnar appears to be infertile. But Ragnar's never met anyone as appealing as Dara, and Dara has never met anyone as arousing as Ragnar. Their growing relationship is the most passionate and all-consuming of their lives. Yet Dara's determination to run away may destroy their emerging love.

This engaging story is highly charged with erotic tension and colorful images. Black's sense of humor makes the story even more delightful. The only problem is dizzying switches in character point of view, as often as every paragraph, can confuse the reader and take her out of the story. Still, Black has, as usual, fashioned a winning tale that combines an appealing premise with voluptuous sensuality.

I found myself in a frustrating dilemma: a lot of books, but nothing to read. I wanted a light read to give balance to the more literary book I was reading at the time -- something that I always do. But when I picked up a book I flung it aside almost immediately because it had failed to spark my interest. Then I saw the Warrior anthology and decided to give it a whirl. I loved Julia Templeton's Kieran the Black! This time-travel novella is about a thirty-nine-year-old divorcee's journey from the present time to the year 1067. The history enthusiast had no idea what to expect when a strange woman asked her to hold Kieran the Black's sword, but she hadn't anticipated waking up in Lady Elizabeth's eighteen-year-old body! Not only is she alive during a time period that had always fascinated her, but she is young and beautiful again and is the wife of the gorgeous warrior Kieran the Black. She will enjoy the company of the insatiable man and try to change the course of history by saving him from getting murdered by the leader of Saxon. There are various delectable scenes and twists throughout the novella.

The one thing I did not like about Kieran the Black was Lizzie's reaction to waking up in another time. The whole "I woke up in 1067 in the body of a young, beautiful, and thin woman -- cool!" thing is too unrealistic for words, no matter how much she likes history and how unhappy she had been in her previous life. There should have been a little culture and time period shock at least! Other than that, I loved the story of Lizzie and Kieran and the sex scenes were wonderfully erotic. Kieran sounded delicious! The Warrior book comes with two novellas, and the other one is God of Fire by Jaid Black. The moment I read the opening sentence of the aforementioned novella I knew I wouldn't get into it. I gave up on it after reading the first chapter. That is all I will say about the novella, for it wouldn't be fair to review a story I hadn't read. Alas, this is the first Jaid Black story that didn't grab me and that surprised me. Anyway, I recommend Warrior, if only for Julia Templeton's juicy novella. It certainly put an end to my reading rut, at least for now!

Kieran the black&God of fire both timetravels&fantastic. Very hot, very enjoyable reads. 2 modern-day women are sent back in time to medievil Britain&the Viking era.

Keiran the black is just perfect, hot, sizzling&tenderness.

Jaid black's story God of fire is very typical of her works that I have read so far with the exception of "The possession". I am reading the Trek Mi Quan series at the moment.

I look forward to reading more of Julia Templeton's books in future.

God of Fire By Jaid Black He came to her in a dream. He foretold to her of a husband. She would travel over a thousand years back through time to be claimed by a notorious Viking warrior. The warrior would give her pleasure she'd never dreamed possible. He would claim her. Brand her. Possess her. She could never leave him... But then again, whoever said she wanted to? Kieran the Black By Julia Templeton If you hold his sword in your hands and place the point of the blade in Kieran's crest, you will experience life like you have never known it. When the frizzy-headed crone took thirty-nine-year-old Lizzie Johnston's hands and wrapped them around the sword, she felt a little weird. That's nothing compared to what she feels when she wakes up in the body of eighteen-year-old Saxon, Lady Elizabeth of Aedelmaer in the year 1067, wedded to the infamous Norman knight, Kieran the Black. Kieran's six and a half feet tall, black-haired, with the bluest eyes Lizzie's ever seen and built like a brick you-know-what. Lizzie's head over heels and determined to get tall, dark and dangerous into bed and win his heart, despite the old Elizabeth's avowed distaste for him. But first she has to save his life…

(Great part of Series)

(Awesome Read!!!)

(Pretty Good Except For a Few Things)

(Fantastic as ever)

(plot is intriguing but dialogue is bad)
This book was a great installment to a great series of books by Sandra Hill. I read it in about 4 hours.
Down and Dirty (Viking Time-Travel)

I so love this series... I read them all, and I re-read them. If you love men, you've got to read this series. The heroes are delicious! The heroines are so human, and with strong senses of humors! I laughed, I cryed. Its a mini vacation from everyday life. LOL!!

This was my first book by this author. It was a pretty good story, but I agree with another reviewer who said the dialog was pretty bad. I quickly got very tired of the way Britta kept mis-pronouncing Zack's name deliberately. It stopped being cute fast. I also didn't understand why the author made it seem that Britta had such a difficult time with some of the words she heard over and over. Britta and the other females had a whole evening discussing orgasims but the next day Britta still couldn't pronounce it correctly. I also wasn't sure why Britta, after being in our modern time for four days still had trouble believing she was in the future. I mean, really . . . there had to be an awful lot of obvious differences that couldn't be explained in a 1,000 year time change! Small issues like that made the story a little less enjoyable for me. Half way through the book it did get better and I did like the book well enough to check out some other books by this author. I would like to read Cage's story.
The book is as good if not better than her others. Love to read Sandra Hill and can't wait to get the next book.
I was very excited by the plot of this book, involving a SEAL, his 5 year old son, and a woman warrior who traveled from the past. But, first the conversation with the 5 year old is so unbelievable. Then with Britta, the warrior, her use of 'old language' got on my nerves. The constant side note added from the first person point of view was too much and too jarring, not contributing to a smooth dialogue. I prefer lots of dialogue, witty and fast paced: this book didn't satisfy.
Punished for an indiscretion, Navy SEAL and all-around tough guy Zachary Floyd is forced to head a new SEAL-like program for women. There he meets an alluring Norsewoman, who's escaped a nunnery, her father, and the eleventh century altogether.

(Pretty Good Story)

(Excellent Entertainment)

(Awesome!)

(A Mix...)

(Good to read about MacLeod's...)
This was a pretty good book. Lately Kurlands books are a little to lengthy. However, it is still worth reading.
Great book to read. Characters with keep you reading until the end. Could hardly put it down.
This is such an awesome book! I would recommend it to anyone, and feel 100 percent sure that they'd love it too!
Each of these stories has a touch of the ridiculous in them. But I think that was the challenge in writing them. Can you write a story that's partly ridiculous and still make it good? I think that Lynn has.

The Three Wise Ghosts: This is where you first meet the matchmaking Boar's Head Trio, as they're named in several of Lynn's other books. Yes, it's ridiculous to think of a CEO wearing curly-toed shoes and tights... but if you're going to write a story with ghosts, why make them go by our rules? They were the ones pulling the strings here, you know.

The Ghost of Christmas Past: This is Miles de Piaget's story. The talking cat (on Christmas Eve only, of course) is the matchmaker in this one. This story is much simpler than most of Lynn's stories... you get the feeling that there should have been so much more to the story, if only there hadn't been a page limit. It's still good, though, and gives you another glimpse into one of Rhys and Gwen's kids.

And The Groom Wore Tulle: Not many people would think of starting a story with an almost starved highlander in a modern bridal shop. But that's what Lynn did, and she did it well! It might be too much for some readers (as they've written here) that Ian stuffed himself into a bridal gown... but whose to say what YOU would do if you were thrust into the future while so close to death that you likely wouldn't have all of your wits about you? Add to that the fact that most people in medieval times were superstitious, and it's believable enough to be funny.

The Icing On The Cake: This story takes a woman who is so much the out-doorsy-type that she can't cook much of anything ... and a man who is everything that she isn't in the house, and nothing that she is out of it... and then she sticks them in the same house together unexpectedly. I'm actually not too fond of this story, as their falling in love seems more dependant on sexual chemistry and good looks then on character. I like a story where people fall in love with who a person is, rather than what they look like, and Lynn's usually fantastic that way. Oh well.

I do love all Ms Kurland's characters, and it's great trying to keep track of the family members. That said, as much as Samuel MacLeod, THE ICING ON THE CAKE, seemed to love his ancestors I wanted him to know that he HAD ancestors living in the same century!! I'm referring to Jamie and Patrick and Ian, who live in present day Scotland. I wished that they could know each other. Honestly, it would have been a more interesting story than what we had.

(The Last Viking)

(Heroine I just couldn't like.)

(Humorous time-travel romance!)

(Whirlpool Whips Medieval Viking into future)

(A sexy and hilarious time-travel romance)
The story begins with Geirolf Ericsson going through a time portal in the year 997 and ending up in the year 1997. Dr. Meredith Foster, a very prim and stuffy professor comes home to the knife weilding Viking and soon takes pity on the very handsom wounded man. It just so happens that Meredith is recreating an authentic Viking longboat that her grandfather had started before his death. Meredith takes advantage of Rolf's expertise in this area and enlists his help. Rolf soon realizes that he has time traveled but Meredith has reserves about the story.

Now for my review:

I like my books to have a sort of timeless feel. That is why I generally read historicals. Contemporary books tend to have references to things that are popular in that year. In this case it was "Home Improvement" with Tim Allen. The show and actor must have been mentioned about 20 or more times. So now that it is 2008 and that show has been finished for a while now, the whole thing seemed very dated. I really don't want to hear about different clothing designers, brand names and music bands either. I guess I like a more generic feel to my stories.

While Rolf was basically perfect, Meredith left something to be desired. Never have I read a book with a bigger shrew. She constantly called him names that insinuated that he was less than intelligent, she dangled sex in front of him and never really gave him any and she refused to relinquish control of the longboat even though she had no clue what she was doing. Rolf continually defended her, protected her, gave gifts and boosted her confidence. There was no give and take in the relationship. It was just Meredith taking and taking and taking. I really, really disliked her.

There was a lot of humour in the book. Most of it was at Rolf's expense. The language barriere was used a lot for this purpose and the heroine did most of the laughing. The fact that Rolf learned the English language in two days was quite remarkable even if his talisman helped him somewhat.

The book was entertaining but nothing outstanding. I'll read more of Sandra Hill's novels but I won't be expecting a 5 star book the next time.

Oh boy. I am sad to say that this story is a perfect example of a heroine that annoys the CRAP out of me. She's TOO stubborn, TOO rude, and got on my nerves on almost every page. I thought after 100 pages, she'd warm up to her man, but no. She fights him until the very last page. Don't get me wrong, there are some sweet moments, but I couldn't get the relationship between the two, one minute enemies, the next lovers. Many writers can make it work, she didn't, for me. This was my first Sandra Hill book, it won't be my last, but I'll only read one or two more before I can say I like or dislike her. Thank goodness for the humor, it carried me through.
During their Spring Break, Dr. Meredith Foster and her students are recreating an authentic Viking longboat near Oxley College in Maine, and she is not amused when she comes home to find Geirolf Ericsson, wearing a leather belt with an intricate gold buckle, a loincloth and not much else, in her home. If that were not enough, this extremely attractive man claims to be a 10th century Viking and proceeds to cook a freshly caught rabbit in her fireplace. Assuming that either her brother or her teaching assistant is responsible for this hoax, she nonetheless decides to hire him when she discovers that he is an expert ship builder. And when she gets to know him, combined with some of the strange things that start to happen (and the fact that he has obviously never seen a car, a TV, a telephone or a computer), she begins to think he might just be telling her the truth when he insists that his ship was pulled into a whirlpool on the night of the Demon Moon, transporting him from 997 to 1997. Despite the fact that he is over bearing and arrogant, Meredith is as captivated with him as he is with her. And even though he is determined to return to his own time to fulfill the oath he made to his father, she realizes she has fallen in love with him. Just exactly what is a modern woman going to do with a drop-dead gorgeous 10th century warrior?

"The Last Viking" humorously relates their adventures with lot of sizzle. Hill has become adept at blending the "bodice ripper" style romance with laughs and time travel. This book is a great way to spend a hot, lazy afternoon. I really enjoyed it!

997 A.D. Shipbuilder Geirolf Ericsson is on a mission. He has promised to his father that he would return a stolen religious relic to its rightful place. The theft is believed to have brought famine upon the Viking people. Upon the sea, he is beset by a fierce enemy. Geirolf alone survives the skirmish, as his longboat is shipwrecked and sucked into a whirlpool. Holding fast to the ship's figurehead, a scantily clad maiden he's named Ingrid, he vows to survive to complete his mission and repay his enemy for his vile deeds.

1997 A.D. Geirolf emerges from the whirlpool onto a calm sea. Gazing upward at the heavens he spies an omen of his destiny. High upon a cliff is the skeleton of a longboat, the boat he is determined he must have to complete his mission.

Professor Meredith Foster has a mission of her own. She is determined to complete a project left unfinished by her late grandfather. Her grandfather's fondest dream was to involve his students in the building of a replica of a sailable Viking long ship, using traditional methods. He had felt that the simple Viking way of life would teach his students valuable lessons, regarding hard work, reliability, and commitment.

Meredith, 35 and divorced, is determined to see her grandfather's project through to the end. Her grandparents had been the sole source of joy in her life. She had never been able to please her self-centered, bigoted parents, or the stuffy ex-husband who had left her for a pregnant mistress, after it was determined she could not bear children herself. She has plenty of willing workers. Her only problem is that she needs and expert on Viking shipbuilding to carry out the project.

Returning to her grandparents' home, she is accosted by a scantily dressed man, a very tall muscular man, holding a knife to her throat. She fears the worst. Naturally it is Geirolf. When things calm down he tells his tale. He is unable to believe that he has come 1000 years into the future. She thinks he is a practical joke played by either her assistant or her older brother. He must surely be a real ship builder pretending to be a Viking.

It isn't long before they both realize that the unthinkable has happened. Geirolf HAS time traveled to the future! It takes even less time for each of them to realize that they are soul mates. Rolf respects Meredith's quest as he too has a sacred mission he must honor to his family. He agrees to help her build her ship, but he will also build a smaller one for himself, for though it will certainly break both their hearts, he must return to his own time to honor his quest and perhaps save the Viking people from certain starvation.

This book is hilarious, as one would expect with a medieval Viking trying to adapt to the twentieth century. He has a special fondness for Oreo cookies! Of course it wouldn't be a romance without a happily ever after, so never fear. In fact a sequel to THE LAST VIKING, involving Rolf's older brother, will be released this summer. The title is TRULY, MADLY VIKING. It is sure to be as hilarious as the first.

Jorund Ericsson will travel to our present as well, but he will find himself a patient in a mental hospital. Oh my, and just who will believe his story there? Ah, not to worry, he shall find his perfect mate and even visit with Rolf and Meredith. I highly recommend THE LAST VIKING if you enjoy humorous time travels and tall gorgeous Vikings. Look for the sequel in July. --- Reviewed for PNR Reviews

Wishing to fulfill her beloved grandfather's dream, Professor Meredith Foster has commissioned a project to build a Viking ship. But never in her wildest dream did she expect to actually meet a real Viking - and a very naked one - in her own living room! Initially thinking that he was a practical joke sent by her brother and friend, Meredith thought she'd go along for the ride. However, she is puzzled by the seeming authenticity of this self-proclaimed Viking who seems to know so much about the 10th century and displays total ignorance and amazement to everything modern. So is Rolf Ericsson who he claims to be? And if he is, then what phenomenon catapulted him from the last millennium to modern Maine, and what is the purpose of his sudden appearance in her life?

THE LAST VIKING is a wonderfully written novel about two people thrown together by fate, who find true love despite a thousand years between them. Right from the start, I knew I was in for a fun ride from the initial introduction to Rolf. He is such a riot! His fascination with everything and delight with Oreos and peanut butter was just fun to read. And I absolute loved the way he spoke the English language, the way he pronounced Meredith's name as Merry-Death was just endearing. As for Meredith, she is just adorable as the heroine driven mad by the macho Viking who makes her "tingle" all over.

This is a witty and entertaining book that will provide many laughs. Although some parts lagged a bit, I very much enjoyed reading this, and I admit I did get a little emotional toward the end.

This is my first Sandra Hill novel and I can't wait to read the other books in the Viking Series.

When medieval historian Meredith Foster finds a man in a leather tunic roasting a rabbit in her fireplace. She thinks it's some kind of elaborate joke. But as she teaches him to eat spaghetti and use a computer, Meredith comes to realize that he knows much about the tenth century and nothing about the 20th. Should she surrender to the fantasy that Geirolf Ericsson really is a Viking from 1,000 years ago? And as he helps her fulfill her grandfather's dream of re-creating a Viking ship, he awakens her to dreams of her own.

(INCREDIBLE!)
This is a story of a pair of female anthropologists that are studying the relics from an ancient castle in Scotland. Maya finds that the painting of the Lady MacGregor is very similiar to her in eye color and hair color. She and her friend Sara are intrigued by the Clan MacGregor.

While walking on the beach during a hurricane the two girls are swept bak in time to meet this Clan. Maya and Thomas, the laird of the clan, antagonize each other. both being strong willed and independent. Maya just wants to get home, until she realizes that she has fallen in love with Thomas.

Thomas has been taught that women are faithless and untrustworthy. He is unprepared for the force of his attraction to Maya. I will say he is open minded when Maya explains her origins.

This is a great story and although not as steamy as some of Jaid Black's other stories it is very enjoyable.
What an amazing book! If you're tired of the same old formula when it comes to historical romance then you'll love yourself for getting a copy of After the Storm. This story has everything! From time travel, to humor, to intense emotion and erotic sensuality this book is a definite keeper.

In the present day Maya Jones is one of the worlds leading anthropologists. After unearthing some amazing artifacts from an ancient scottish castle, Maya finds herself drawn inexplicably to the story of the Laird of the castle. Thinking of taking a small vacation Maya an
