(Historical paranormal romance) 『Although the spine of this book labels it a 'Historical Romance' it actually has a considerable dollop of paranormal woven through the pages. Merrick Mac Lochlainn has to travel through time to protect his people from a great evil. His journey is from the Isle of Coruain in the year 981 to 19th century England where he seeks a special stone, one of two that exist somewhere in England, with just the prediction that he needs to find 'Keating' on the Carlisle Road. As Merrick arrives on the Carlisle Road he sees a woman being attacked by four men and wades in to help, knowing that he can't use his usual magic in this situation as it will alert his enemies as to his location.
Jenny Keating, the young woman the mysterious man helps, has her own secrets. She's recently left a school where her treatment had been decidedly Jane Eyre-esque with beatings from the Reverend Usher, the Headmaster. Her one item of value, a special pendant left to her by her parents, has been stolen and she's on the train of her erstwhile roommate Harriet whose brother apparently lives in Carlisle. Jenny decides to travel to Carlisle to find the pendant before taking up her new position as governess just north of Carlisle. Her strange abilities to affect objects when she feels emotions strongly have made her keep herself to herself - along with the fact that everyone she has ever trusted has left her.
When the man who helped Jenny against the assailants wakes up from a crack on the head he has amnesia. Jenny names him Matthew and says he is her husband so that a band of Gypsies will help them. But Merrick remembers nothing of his mission and believes that he is Jenny's husband. As the band travels slowly towards Carlisle Jenny finds herself getting more and more attached to Matthew but she fears that a man such as he must have a wife whom he will remember.
The story moves on as they hunt for the pendant, Merrick's memory returns and Jenny and he realise that they have no future. But is there more to Jenny than meets the eye and are the prophecies about Merrick's future wife misleading?
This was an enjoyable book with some interesting settings with the band of Gypsies and moving around Carlisle in the search for the pendant. Jenny and Merrick were both believable and likeable characters although Reverend Usher seemed rather a pantomime villain. The paranormal aspect of this story felt sometimes a little of a distraction and the short scenes back in Coruain were, for this reader at least, rather spurious. However it was a good read overall.
(Amnesia, Time Travel, gypsies and romance) 『As head of his clan, Merrick MacLochlainn feels the tremendous burden of protecting his people from the evil sorceress Elianor. To prevent her from taking over their clan, he and his brother must travel forward some 1000 years into time to the 1820's and collect sacred stones. Merrick finds himself in North England and when he spies a young woman being visciously attacked he comes to her aid.
Jenny Keating has finally secured a position as a governess and is more than ready to escape the horrible conditions of her employment. She is teaching at a boarding school with a cruel headmaster. When she takes her leave she discovers that her roommate has stolen her locket, the only memento she has from her deceased parents. She is on a quest to retrieve the locket from the runaway girl. Unfortunately, she is waylaid by ruffians.
When Merrick comes to Jenny's aid he is shot and suffers amnesia. Jenny realizes that their situation is dire and when a traveling band of gypsies rescue them she claims he is her husband.
Merrick is attracted to Jenny and fully believes her story. Jenny is confused about her feelings for Merrick. She worries he may have a family back in Scotland. They have a passionate romance but Jenny is in a constant worry over Merrick's past.
Jenny wants to be with him but also frets about her own strange mystical powers. She has never shared them with anyone. Merrick is running out time and when he begins to learn about his past, he realizes that his clan desperately needs him but so does Jenny.
Merrick is a wonderful hero, kind of alpha male but never obnoxiously macho. His love for Jenny is powerful but it pulls against his duty to his clan. The ending was a bit rushed for me and there were a lot of characters to remember, good and bad especially in the last chapters. All in all, however, this is an enjoyable read. 』
(Temptation of the Warrior) 『As his clan's newly crowned chieftain, Merrick MacLochlainn must travel 1000 years into the future to protect his clan from evil. A less that pleasant arrival to the future combined with a blow to the head, leaves Merrick with no recollection of his quest to find a sacred stone that will save his clan. Nor can Merrick remember Jenny Keating, the woman who claims to be his wife.
Jenny Keating's life has been grim and brutal until the day she is saved by a heroic stranger. Posing as his wife to protect herself, Jenny finds herself falling for her handsome savior. With trouble not far behind, the pair must work together to save one another and realize their fate.
Merrick MacLochlainn is as yummy as his brother, Brogan (A Warrior's Taking). Men with a brogue make my knees quiver. Heroes with a brogue, magical talents AND muscles to die for, bring me to my knees. Merrick left me on the floor begging for more.
Don't miss Margo Maguire's Temptation of the Warrior! A time traveling romance with a battle against mortal evil and paranormal evil as well, Temptation of the Warrior is a must read!

(fascinating romantic fantasy) 『In 981 on the Isle of Coruain, High Chieftain Merrick MacLochlainn knows he has no choice but to do the mission in order to keep the Druzai safe from the malevolence of their long time enemy the witch Eilinora, who escaped incarceration, killed Merrick's father, and stole the scepter of power. The first leg of his quest is to retrieve sacred stones that will bring back powers to the Druzai. However to obtain the stones means he must travel forward in time to 1826.
Merrick goes forward over eight centuries, but upon finding himself in Regency Northumbria; he is mentally confused and cannot recall his past let alone his mission. He also has problems with just who is Jenny Keating, whom he rescued from some attackers. They travel together until the reach a Gypsy camp where she claims she is his wife. Merrick knows that is untrue but does not expose her as he wants her safe while his mind heals. As he recovers and falls in love, Merrick believes Jenny is the source for his obtaining the stones. However, both know he must go back in time, but can she accompany her beloved if they retrieve the stones while his known foe and other death sorcerers cause mayhem.
TEMPTATION OF THE WARRIOR is a fascinating romantic fantasy that employs time travel to bring together a Dark Ages Scottish warrior and a Victorian woman. The time travel is especially handled really well as he struggles with effect of the trip. The story line is fast-paced from the opening segue when Merrick tells his courageous female cousin Ana no that he not she will journey and never slows down until the confrontation. Fans will appreciate Margo Maguire's magnificent good vs. evil thriller and want to read Merrick's brother Brogan's tale (see A WARRIOR'S TAKING).

I was always amused by this since Jane lived a century and half before, how would she know what to do in our modern era? Oddly enough this book proved one thing to me--despite the superficial changes, society itself hasn't really progressed.
Eleanor was a very likable character to me. As were the two ghost sisters, or even their not-so-ghostly living selves. Shermont...he's described as being a womanizer and rake, but I really don't think he was any worse then any other man. Despite his wariness where Eleanor is concerned (the timing is a little too perfect of her arrival, she would evade questions and always seemed to be hiding something, in other words she was acting very suspicious) I have to admit Shermont was surprisingly fair-minded with her.
The book has a lot of misunderstandings and misdirection. From the ghost sisters' and their uncertainty about what happened the night of the duel to Shermont's mission to find the Napoleonic spy events seem to spiral out of control quickly for poor Eleanor. I do find it very amusing later on when she has to choose between hot sex or Jane Austen (I truly don't think I could have chosen).
The resolution was better then I thought it would be--too often it seems like time travel romances ignore changing history by uprooting a character to the past or present, but in this case it worked out wonderfully.
I really do enjoy Laurie Brown's romances (I previously read One Hundred Years to Reform a Rake, which was another time travel romance, but the heroine had the terrible decision of loving the Ghost man or his live self and feeling like she betrayed both at once) and look forward to future books!』
(The further I read, the more appalled I became.) 『The further I read in What Would Jane Austen Do, the more appalled I became. The writing was shallow, the plotting was puerile and the characters were trite and underdeveloped. I have no objections whatsoever to sex scenes in a novel, but they must be well-written and they must fit within the overall structure of the story; neither of those criteria were met here. I am so disgusted with this book (and with the author for using Jane Austen as a marketing ploy)that I am not even giving the book away to our local library, but am throwing it out - a first for me!』
(Not worth my time) 『I really wanted to like a book with this premise, but in this case I couldn't do it. It's just lame. Gives new dimension to the term 'Mary Sue' as it's clearly a wish fulfillment daydream of the author placing herself back in 1814. Anybody who's clever enough to enjoy Jane Austen is too smart for this piece of terminal cuteness.』
(Whimisical and fun - escapist in the best way) 『This is a very light, whimisical, and fun regency romance. The characters aren't deep or original, the plot takes several unlikely turns, and yet I was eagerly reading to the end to see how it would all be rolled together at the end. This novel is really a romance novel, or a paranormal novel, or a regency novel, but some mix of the three. And very enjoyable.』
(Bad....Bad.....Bad!!) 『Let me keep this short, don't waste your time or money. This was a poorly written story. Boring, bland, and just plain stupid. The characters did nothing for me. They were very forgetable. I never heard of Laurie Brown so I was not disappointed in work. But, I will pass on anything else she writes.』 『

(The Reluctant Time Traveler) 『THE RELUCTANT TIME TRAVELER is a rare treat because it combines romance with a twist of fantasy. I became instantly involved with the main character's situation. I love the way in which she faced life's challenges with determination, humor. and the hope of finding meaning from her journey. Hats off to Lynda Eymann! I chant sequel!!!!』
(Left Me Breathless&Feeling Bewitched! I've Read It Twice!) 『Is WOW the right word? How do you describe being drawn into an extraordinary, magical and sensual adventure that leaves you breathless? Ms. Eymann's tale is that rare entity that gracefully combines adventure, fantasy, seduction and whisper-soft sexuality. Be prepared to be lured into the Author's dreamworld that's as totally believable and amazing as its characters. And oh my - HOT! There's the intrigue of dangerous romance, conflict, betrayal - Everything that makes a GREAT READ. I admit, I had to read it twice: I couldn't let go of the characters. OK - maybe I need a SEQUEL - please? This book is pure pleasure, a gem, remarkable! READ and ENJOY!』

I Loved it and now can't wait for the next one. Lynda Eymann will now be on my lists of authors to look for. An Outstanding Job&Well Done. Pick this book up you won't regret it.』
(time travel) 『This book caught me by surprise, I didn't know what was happened when I first started reading it. As I got into the story more it began to make some sense to me. I did like that the main character was a mature women, that is rare in the romance field, they seem to be very young, almost always blond hair and blue eyes. Have not completed reading the novel. So I cannot say any more regarding it, I've left it for another day to finish reading.』 『With no memory of her former life in the 21st century, a woman in 17th century England is taken to market early one morning and auctioned off to the highest bidder. The mysterious gentleman that purchases her is a complete stranger, but something about him seems so familiar. . . .
Who is this harsh, forbidding man? Where has she seen him before? What does he want from her? If only she could remember. . . .
Time traveler Susan Jaymes is about to remember everything, including a murder (or possibly two) that she would rather forget.
THE RELUCTANT TIME TRAVELERby Lynda Eymann is a stand-alone novel with a definite conclusion. Although a sequel (Lord Justin Sittwell Claims a Wife) will continue the adventures of Susan Jaymes and Lord Justin Sittwell when it is released in late 2009, this first book in the series can be fully appreciated and enjoyed without it.

(Master of The Highlands) 『The story is good but the writting drags along. There is to much thinking and not enough talking or movement in the story. I read two thirds of this book and gave up.』
(Good Read) 『This is the first time travel historical romance I have read and I found it enjoyable. I thought that Gram's song got old really quick and that I would agree with other reviews that there could have been a little less inner dialoge - could have also used a little more romance too. Overall I was please with the book and have enjoyed other books by this author.』
(Good read...) 『Once you get past "time-travel", this is an enjoyable read. First in the series, and made me want to read the next books in the series.』
(Hard to finish) 『Master of the Highlands took a long time to finish. I would start it then put it down for something more interesting then go back to it after I had finished the other novel. The story suffers from characters that are not all that exciting.
Time travel is not my favorite genre because the modern day person sent back into time usually lacks understanding of the culture and tries to force their modern norms on everyone they meet. Heroine Lilly does this very thing. She is a rather staid artist who has been working in the computer industry in California, when on vacation she stumbles into a maze and lands in 17th century Scotland. At first she is unbelieving of her circumstances, she thinks she has come upon a renaissance fair.
Hero Ewen Cameron finds her and knows she is from the future as there has been a previous time traveler. He is empathetic to her plight and quite taken with her. He heads the Cameron clan and protects them from the British soldiers and rival clansman with honor and might. He is a widower and has no desire to remarry as his first wife was faithless. To his credit he does not come across as overly embittered.
Lily resigns herself to the time period, only after she must be rescued by Ewen. Her cover is that she is a distant cousin from France and she is now the governess of Ewen's son, John. She does not like her job at first and she has a tendency to react in anger whenever she is around Ewen. She was a bit of a loner in the 21st century and is almost self pitying of her modern circumstances.
There is a bit of intrigue at the castle with a lovely conniver who wants Ewen and an English General who wants his lands. This takes up the latter half of the book and separates the couple. The romance is on the back burner for most of this novel and their time apart does not help. These characters and their story were bland and unemotional, partially because there is not enough dialogue and action between them to let the reader discover their feelings. 』 『A modern woman finds true love across the ocean-and across time.

Lily Hamlin is making a pilgrimage to Scotland with hopes for some direction in her life. There she discovers an overgrown maze and a strange stone map-and lands back in time, in the Lochaber of 1654.
Ewen, Chief of the Clan Cameron, must save his people from the brutal redcoats. But then he meets a saucy lass with a peculiar accent, no regard for his title-and an arousing body. (Pretty Good Except For a Few Things) 『This was my first book by this author. It was a pretty good story, but I agree with another reviewer who said the dialog was pretty bad. I quickly got very tired of the way Britta kept mis-pronouncing Zack's name deliberately. It stopped being cute fast. I also didn't understand why the author made it seem that Britta had such a difficult time with some of the words she heard over and over. Britta and the other females had a whole evening discussing orgasims but the next day Britta still couldn't pronounce it correctly. I also wasn't sure why Britta, after being in our modern time for four days still had trouble believing she was in the future. I mean, really . . . there had to be an awful lot of obvious differences that couldn't be explained in a 1,000 year time change! Small issues like that made the story a little less enjoyable for me. Half way through the book it did get better and I did like the book well enough to check out some other books by this author. I would like to read Cage's story.』

The "Hero" which I bet never saves her(I am only½ way through) and the secondary characters are believable and nice I don't like Tuck. She is totally unbelievable. The fact she can wear her jeans without being burned as a witch (and if she is so smart why Tuck doesn't realize jeans will get her burned at the stake?) and defeat a garrison of trained nights in a wrestling match is what makes her so unbelievable. I am not disparaging woman's lib but Jo takes it to the next level. Ian, Collins friend, at says at one point (when she escapes the second time) tells Collin to go after her so she won't be killed. Then Ian believes she can take onthe whole garrison by herself and tells Collin not to interfere she has to this herself. Which is it Jo? Is she the big tough soldier who can walk through medieval Scotland and take on all comers with jeans and not be burned as witch or a woman who needs a man to go after them after she leaves the castle?』
(Fun Time Travel Romance) 『Jo Barrett is a fantastic author! I was thoroughly engrossed in an enchanting adventure from start to finish! (Wow! I was blown away) 『I just finished reading it. And wow! This story was amazing. Since this isn't on your bookshelves at the bookstore, I was skeptical to spending $12.00 for an unheard of book. But the description and the review convinced me to give it a chance and I'm so glad I did.
Amelia Tucker, or Tuck as she liked to be called, is bodyguard for hire. Currently, she was hired to protect Jenny, a rich prodigy, who's traveling through Scotland. While there, after a botched kidnapping attempt, Amelia finds herself somehow back in time. There she ends up helping Colin MacLean and his friend, Ian Southerland.
I absolutely adore Amelia. I always wanted to a read a time travel romance where the woman had fighting skills and smarts and this definitely exceeded my expectations. Amelia was witty, intelligent and daring. She had I-don't-care-what-you-think attitude. But there was soft side to her that made sure to remind you she was still a woman. Colin MacLean is your typical Scotsman, who finds himself falling in love with this strange woman. He had a tough exterior but had a soft spot for Amelia and his family. They really complement one another.
This story was amazingly written well. There wasn't a lot of useless prose. There was a lot of intrigue and romance. This story will keep a smile on your face. So, if you're looking for a good time-travel romance, you definitely have to read this.
Rogue's Challenge is the sequel.』

As Jenny distracts Tuck from watching the man, he sneaks up and attacks Jenny sending Amelia splashing into the fountain and hitting her head. (Could have been better) 『What a shame Ashley was stuck writing the conclusion of this series and felt the need to leave such a great character like Hunter with such a small part. Hunter is free spirited and lovable. The whole affinity with animals could make a great tale and yet, even the lion plays a small part when there could have been so much to work with.
The gathering of all the brothers, the ensuing disappearances of the brothers, the waiting around, and the explanations was a bit dull and caused the story to drag at intervals. Overall it was good, but not great.』
(3.5 actually) 『Agree with most reviews. Not quite a 4 but a decent continuation of the series, and ending an aspect that could not drag on anymore, and I like the hero Hunter's character. Addition of Darius was confusing and the brothers did not seems to like each other very much once they finally all got together, was not expecting a lovefest but more than what I got....』
(cant wait for the next one) 『I am a reader, read any thing I can pick up. This Book entertained me. I found myself waiting for the next book. Then waiting for the next book. My daughter picked it up and now we are both waiting for the next book.』
(Five Immortal brothers, Five Witches and Five Goddess must now gather to defeat an ancient Demon) 『The last of the Immortal warriors, Hunter often tagged "the crazy one" has just woken from a three-some. He liked to have fun and these days his fun was never serious, just a good time and a good-bye in the morning. He'd been awakened by the house cat which had been scratching around for food. The next thing he experiences was pain as The Calling pulled at him. And then it stopped. One minute he was feeding a domestic kitty in Minnesota and the next he's on a Californian island just off the coast of Mexico and in the lion's den (literally).
Leda Stowe is a witch whose element is air (Amber's is earth, Lexi's fire, and Christine's is water -- see where this is going?). Until recently she'd been a member of the Coven of Light but had done the unthinkable, experimenting with death magic to save her terminally ill husband. The Coven hadn't appreciated her success and neither had her husband. Twice rejected, she focused on her animal rescue vocation on the deserted island with one her current projects a bear named Taro soon to be relocated to the wilds in Japan and a lion who'd been tortured by a Mexican drug runner, that she'd named Mukasa. His fate was still uncertain.
Estranged from the Coven, Leda had not participated in the Calling. Still it seems each of the warriors had been sent to the place they were most needed. Imagine Leda's surprised to find a half naked Immortal warrior in her lion's pen. Even more surprising was the fact that Mukasa, who didn't trust any other human besides her, didn't seem to mind his presence in the least. It soon becomes clear that Hunter has an affinity for animals in addition to beautiful women and Leda certainly falls into that category.
After telling her that the lion would prefer to roam the island to being caged, he suggests a little activity for them as well, much to the consternation of Leda's partner who had been giving her space to recover from her divorce. Naught boy!
Leda is definitely attractive, and soon learns that Hunter has a sad story of his own. He'd loved once, very deeply. He'd married a mortal woman and had given her two children. Then the uber demon (the very same that was now draining the world of life magic, although he doesn't yet know this) had killed his little family. His wife had died for him and his babies had followed. He would never allow anyone to do that for him again. He became determined to be a love 'em and leave 'em kind of guy from that day on. This is how he copes. But if he were ever to love again the woman would be exactly like Leda.
The demon presence descends on Leda's island. Leda thinks that the demon essence within her has drawn it but Hunter knows it is he who the demon is after and sends it packing. All in a day's work and the minute the threat is over he's back to angling for sex.
Leda's soul had been tainted by her bargain with the demon and she fears what that would do to him if she were to succumb to his charm. Hunter informs her that he can remove the blackness -- through sex of course! This mean she has to trust him implicitly. Fortunately it works for as he later tells her, had it not he would have had to kill her.
Nope Hunter had no love for demons so when Leda's half demon, half witch pal Samantha comes to her for help in locating her mother who has disappeared, Hunter is not inclined to trust her. Like the vampires who have allied with his brothers Samantha contains death magic but is not evil. And though there is no love lost between her and her father it soon becomes readily apparent that the demon is deeply in love with his mortal wife, just as Hunter had been. Samantha also explains the reason for the Calling.
Before Leda can consider what to do next, she has to round up Mukasa who Hunter has given free reign of the island. When they find him, they also discover that magical creatures also share the island with them, water spirits known as the Undine. Dyanne tells her that as the life magic in the world diminishes her people have been dying. She implores Hunter to employ his powers to heal them. Not knowing of Tain's plight he tells her to ask him as he is the healer among the five brothers. Her response is cryptic. She tells him that he will find his brother and once he does he will have to choose a path. Each will be painful but a choice must be made. She tells Leda she must choose a path as well. Hunter tells her that while he is willing to go forth and find out what is happening, he won't allow her to leave until the world is safe again. Imagine her consternation. However when she awakes in the middle of the night, she finds Hunter down by the sea communing with his mother Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction -- and creation. Kali tells him of Tain's plight and the need for all the brothers to unite to save him. She too talks to him of choices and sacfice. The Goddess takes her leave with a command to Leda to be good to her son.
Leda feels she has no choice but to leave Hunter behind on the island to care for her animals and casts a sleep spell upon him so that she can slip away to L.A. to help Samantha unchallenged. He'd planned to use the animals as an excuse to leave her behind, but now the tables have been turned and Hunter is not about to allow her to go into danger alone. Mukasa wants to go with him and when the Undine promises to take care of the bear while he's gone, he is able to leave with a clear conscience.
Suffice it to say that after quite a bit of action Hunter and Leda make it to Amber and Adrian in Seattle. Darius and Kalen who had also been on their way were apparently not so lucky and the two remaining Immortals fear that the demon now possesses three of their brothers instead of one. In spite of the fact that it's readily apparent that the fulfillment of the demons evil plan requires that all five be together, they also realize that they must be together to defeat the menace. Hunter and Adrian must now find a way to join their brothers without the Old One's knowledge. As Kali had imparted to Leda success would require them all -- five Immortals, five witches and five Goddesses to bring down the ancient demon. Who will the fifth witch be and what must they all do to restore Tain to sanity and destroy the demon? Yes, there is a resolution which is most satisfying, but the story is not finished. Four new tales are on the way.
THE GATHERING is filled with deep emotion, the passion of each pair of lovers, loyal though often unlikely friendships, maternal and brotherly love edged with action and suspense, a plethora of magical creatures and best of all a touch of humor. Hunter puts me to mind of a number of Sandra Hill's naughty but oh so sexy Viking heroes. Wouldn't it be great to see a Norse Immortal show up in a future tale. Hm that's an intriguing thought.
Ah well, Tain's much awaited story THE REDEEMING is next and the reader will have a good idea who his mate will be by the end of THE GATHERING. I can't wait to see how that's going to work and of course what Cerridwen, his mother is going to say about that. ~ for PNR Reviews』 『Created at the dawn of time to protect humanity, the ancient warriors have been nearly forgotten, though magic lives on--in vampires, werewolves, the Celtic Sidhe, and other beings. But now one of their own has turned rogue, and the world is again in desperate need of theIMMORTALS.
He was known as "the crazy one." And Leda Stowe could see why after finding the stunning half-naked warrior in her lion's pen--unarmed and completely unafraid. Though he could somehow soothe the temperamental beast, nothing could calm the desire that sparked through her body at his touch. She wished they could hide away together on her island forever, but the world thrummed with danger. Before Leda could claim Hunter for herself, they would have to join the other Immortals to face the greatest trial yet: THE GATHERING』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Oh my...wasn't expecting this...) 『I have really liked all of Hannah's books and I couldn't get through this one fast enough. It was awful. The subject was good, but all the rest just seemed like she was trying to fill pages. I am still a big fan of hers, I just didn't like this one.』
(Better than the first book I read by Ms. Hannah) 『First off, I enjoy time travel romances.
Alaina "Lainie" and Killian each have scarred pasts. They meet up when Lainie finds herself in 1896 Arizona though she thinks it is a dream for half the book. Killian, of course, thinks she might be crazy but there is a pull between the two of them with plenty of tension. I would have enjoyed seeing a smoother transition of their love for each other. Their relationship is bumpy and I was surprised that Killian considered letting his men have their way with her.
I can't put a handle on Ms. Hannah's books yet since this is only my second one that I've read of hers. It seems like there is plenty of promise when the books start out but everything should flow smoother.
I'll still look for other titles since I think her books will get better.』
(What was she thinking?) 『I've read many of Kristin Hannah's books and enjoyed most of them. This was a total flop, in my opinion. Trying to be serious, it was almost comical and I had a hard time finishing it. Hannah has a very unique style, but missed the mark with this one.』
(Lightning Did Indeed Strike) 『When Lightning Strikes is not your average time-traveling romance. It introduces you to two very interesting, very unique characters. Alaina Costanza (Lainie), an edgy, wise-cracking romance writer with a rough past, and John Killian, or just Killian as he is mainly known, the villian from the historical western she is in the midst of writing. So when she gets struck by lightning, she gets way more than she bargained for!
This book made me laugh, and at the same time it pulled at my heart. The chemistry between the two of them and their trying to fight it, was in a way, realistic and heartwrenching. Even though this is a romance, I didn't know how it was going to end, it was a real nail-biter! I couldn't finish soon enough, and when I did, it left me with a fulfilled feeling. I couldn't recommend this book more!』
(good escapism read, I guess) 『Let me start out by announcing that I'm not a romance reader, per se. The aspect that I liked most about this story was the unusual main character, Alaina. She is not your typical female used in a romance. This one has a very rough past. The plot of having Alaina (a writer) traveling through time to end up in one of her own romance novels set in the wild west was pure escapism and lots of fun. That being said, I had a huge problem with the two main characters. There wasn't enough plot development to understand why they would have have such a deep abiding love for each other - oh wait, that bit about reincarnation. Perhaps I'm being picky but I didn't feel any attachment to the characters love connection which, I believe, was kinda the whole point.』 『During a magical storm, romance writer Alaina Costanza is hurled back in time, into the Western world of her latest novel. There she is kidnapped by her own character, a ruthless outlaw known only as Killian. Thrown together by fate, Alaina and Killian will discover a love too magnificent to last a single lifetime. But even magic has a price, and time is running out. For the sake of Alaina's child, they must risk it all and fight for a future than depends on lightning striking . . . twice. 』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Half the story) 『At first, this seemed to be the romance between Elle and Boone, then became Zander's story, and then became Boone involved in the revolt against the Circe witches while Elle became part of them. Then finally when Zander and Boone faced off in the arena Elle came to the rescue. But that's where it ended. I'm giving it a low rating because it seemed to end in the middle, instead of wrapping up loose ends. Another grievance is that the second half of the story has not been published yet after over a year.
I would recommend that anyone interested in this book wait until the second half has been published. Then they will be able to finish the story when they have read the end of this book.』
(enjoyable "Star" romantic science fiction) 『The house of Phoenix, who rule Oasis, know the danger to their kingdom from the evil Circe witches is real, but the king and queen decided to spare their children Arielle and Alexander from how deadly this menace is. As Elle and Zander remain ignorant, their best friend Boone knows the malevolence could strike at any moment. Against his better judgment as he believes his two buddies would be better off knowing the truth of this evil threat, he swore to his liege not to tell them.
However, living a protected life in a cage proves false when the Circe witches apparently abduct Zander. His family grieves for him as they assume he was slaughtered by these abominations and his sister angrily holds Boone culpable for concealing what he knew. Feeling guilty, Boone vows to learn whether Zander still lives and if so plans to rescue him. However, he vanishes leaving it up to a now contrite Elle mount a rescue.
Colby Hodge's latest "Star" romantic science fiction (see STARGAZER and SHOOTING STAR) is an exhilarating action-packed thriller that stars the younger generation of Oasis heroes. The story line is filled with adventure as first Boone and then Elle set off to learn the truth. Although Elle's obstinacy helps her on her escapade, fans will be somewhat annoyed at her narrow-mindedness. Still, she makes a fine heroine as STAR SHADOWS soars closer to the final confrontation between the witches and the House of Phoenix.

Love Spell
Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The Last Viking) 『The story begins with Geirolf Ericsson going through a time portal in the year 997 and ending up in the year 1997. Dr. Meredith Foster, a very prim and stuffy professor comes home to the knife weilding Viking and soon takes pity on the very handsom wounded man. It just so happens that Meredith is recreating an authentic Viking longboat that her grandfather had started before his death. Meredith takes advantage of Rolf's expertise in this area and enlists his help. Rolf soon realizes that he has time traveled but Meredith has reserves about the story.
Now for my review:
I like my books to have a sort of timeless feel. That is why I generally read historicals. Contemporary books tend to have references to things that are popular in that year. In this case it was "Home Improvement" with Tim Allen. The show and actor must have been mentioned about 20 or more times. So now that it is 2008 and that show has been finished for a while now, the whole thing seemed very dated. I really don't want to hear about different clothing designers, brand names and music bands either. I guess I like a more generic feel to my stories.
While Rolf was basically perfect, Meredith left something to be desired. Never have I read a book with a bigger shrew. She constantly called him names that insinuated that he was less than intelligent, she dangled sex in front of him and never really gave him any and she refused to relinquish control of the longboat even though she had no clue what she was doing. Rolf continually defended her, protected her, gave gifts and boosted her confidence. There was no give and take in the relationship. It was just Meredith taking and taking and taking. I really, really disliked her.
There was a lot of humour in the book. Most of it was at Rolf's expense. The language barriere was used a lot for this purpose and the heroine did most of the laughing. The fact that Rolf learned the English language in two days was quite remarkable even if his talisman helped him somewhat.
The book was entertaining but nothing outstanding. I'll read more of Sandra Hill's novels but I won't be expecting a 5 star book the next time.』
(Heroine I just couldn't like.) 『Oh boy. I am sad to say that this story is a perfect example of a heroine that annoys the CRAP out of me. She's TOO stubborn, TOO rude, and got on my nerves on almost every page. I thought after 100 pages, she'd warm up to her man, but no. She fights him until the very last page. Don't get me wrong, there are some sweet moments, but I couldn't get the relationship between the two, one minute enemies, the next lovers. Many writers can make it work, she didn't, for me. This was my first Sandra Hill book, it won't be my last, but I'll only read one or two more before I can say I like or dislike her. Thank goodness for the humor, it carried me through.』
(Humorous time-travel romance!) 『During their Spring Break, Dr. Meredith Foster and her students are recreating an authentic Viking longboat near Oxley College in Maine, and she is not amused when she comes home to find Geirolf Ericsson, wearing a leather belt with an intricate gold buckle, a loincloth and not much else, in her home. If that were not enough, this extremely attractive man claims to be a 10th century Viking and proceeds to cook a freshly caught rabbit in her fireplace. Assuming that either her brother or her teaching assistant is responsible for this hoax, she nonetheless decides to hire him when she discovers that he is an expert ship builder. And when she gets to know him, combined with some of the strange things that start to happen (and the fact that he has obviously never seen a car, a TV, a telephone or a computer), she begins to think he might just be telling her the truth when he insists that his ship was pulled into a whirlpool on the night of the Demon Moon, transporting him from 997 to 1997. Despite the fact that he is over bearing and arrogant, Meredith is as captivated with him as he is with her. And even though he is determined to return to his own time to fulfill the oath he made to his father, she realizes she has fallen in love with him. Just exactly what is a modern woman going to do with a drop-dead gorgeous 10th century warrior?
"The Last Viking" humorously relates their adventures with lot of sizzle. Hill has become adept at blending the "bodice ripper" style romance with laughs and time travel. This book is a great way to spend a hot, lazy afternoon. I really enjoyed it! 』
(Whirlpool Whips Medieval Viking into future) 『997 A.D. Shipbuilder Geirolf Ericsson is on a mission. He has promised to his father that he would return a stolen religious relic to its rightful place. The theft is believed to have brought famine upon the Viking people. Upon the sea, he is beset by a fierce enemy. Geirolf alone survives the skirmish, as his longboat is shipwrecked and sucked into a whirlpool. Holding fast to the ship's figurehead, a scantily clad maiden he's named Ingrid, he vows to survive to complete his mission and repay his enemy for his vile deeds.
1997 A.D. Geirolf emerges from the whirlpool onto a calm sea. Gazing upward at the heavens he spies an omen of his destiny. High upon a cliff is the skeleton of a longboat, the boat he is determined he must have to complete his mission.
Professor Meredith Foster has a mission of her own. She is determined to complete a project left unfinished by her late grandfather. Her grandfather's fondest dream was to involve his students in the building of a replica of a sailable Viking long ship, using traditional methods. He had felt that the simple Viking way of life would teach his students valuable lessons, regarding hard work, reliability, and commitment.
Meredith, 35 and divorced, is determined to see her grandfather's project through to the end. Her grandparents had been the sole source of joy in her life. She had never been able to please her self-centered, bigoted parents, or the stuffy ex-husband who had left her for a pregnant mistress, after it was determined she could not bear children herself. She has plenty of willing workers. Her only problem is that she needs and expert on Viking shipbuilding to carry out the project.
Returning to her grandparents' home, she is accosted by a scantily dressed man, a very tall muscular man, holding a knife to her throat. She fears the worst. Naturally it is Geirolf. When things calm down he tells his tale. He is unable to believe that he has come 1000 years into the future. She thinks he is a practical joke played by either her assistant or her older brother. He must surely be a real ship builder pretending to be a Viking.
It isn't long before they both realize that the unthinkable has happened. Geirolf HAS time traveled to the future! It takes even less time for each of them to realize that they are soul mates. Rolf respects Meredith's quest as he too has a sacred mission he must honor to his family. He agrees to help her build her ship, but he will also build a smaller one for himself, for though it will certainly break both their hearts, he must return to his own time to honor his quest and perhaps save the Viking people from certain starvation.
This book is hilarious, as one would expect with a medieval Viking trying to adapt to the twentieth century. He has a special fondness for Oreo cookies! Of course it wouldn't be a romance without a happily ever after, so never fear. In fact a sequel to THE LAST VIKING, involving Rolf's older brother, will be released this summer. The title is TRULY, MADLY VIKING. It is sure to be as hilarious as the first.
Jorund Ericsson will travel to our present as well, but he will find himself a patient in a mental hospital. Oh my, and just who will believe his story there? Ah, not to worry, he shall find his perfect mate and even visit with Rolf and Meredith. I highly recommend THE LAST VIKING if you enjoy humorous time travels and tall gorgeous Vikings. Look for the sequel in July. --- Reviewed for PNR Reviews』
(A sexy and hilarious time-travel romance) 『Wishing to fulfill her beloved grandfather's dream, Professor Meredith Foster has commissioned a project to build a Viking ship. But never in her wildest dream did she expect to actually meet a real Viking - and a very naked one - in her own living room! Initially thinking that he was a practical joke sent by her brother and friend, Meredith thought she'd go along for the ride. However, she is puzzled by the seeming authenticity of this self-proclaimed Viking who seems to know so much about the 10th century and displays total ignorance and amazement to everything modern. So is Rolf Ericsson who he claims to be? And if he is, then what phenomenon catapulted him from the last millennium to modern Maine, and what is the purpose of his sudden appearance in her life?
THE LAST VIKING is a wonderfully written novel about two people thrown together by fate, who find true love despite a thousand years between them. Right from the start, I knew I was in for a fun ride from the initial introduction to Rolf. He is such a riot! His fascination with everything and delight with Oreos and peanut butter was just fun to read. And I absolute loved the way he spoke the English language, the way he pronounced Meredith's name as Merry-Death was just endearing. As for Meredith, she is just adorable as the heroine driven mad by the macho Viking who makes her "tingle" all over.
This is a witty and entertaining book that will provide many laughs. Although some parts lagged a bit, I very much enjoyed reading this, and I admit I did get a little emotional toward the end.
This is my first Sandra Hill novel and I can't wait to read the other books in the Viking Series.』 『When medieval historian Meredith Foster finds a man in a leather tunic roasting a rabbit in her fireplace. She thinks it's some kind of elaborate joke. But as she teaches him to eat spaghetti and use a computer, Meredith comes to realize that he knows much about the tenth century and nothing about the 20th. Should she surrender to the fantasy that Geirolf Ericsson really is a Viking from 1,000 years ago? And as he helps her fulfill her grandfather's dream of re-creating a Viking ship, he awakens her to dreams of her own.』
