'Down,
down,
down.
Would the fall never come to an end!'

Since its publication in 1865, Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has delighted the world with a wildly imaginative and unforgettable journey, inspiring children of all ages to suspend disbelief and follow Alice into her fantasy worlds. This new gift edition presents Carroll's tale fully unabridged with a unique visual interpretation by renowned artist Camille Rose Garcia.

Source of legend and lyric, reference and conjecture,Alice's Adventures in Wonderlandis for most children pure pleasure in prose. While adults try to decipher Lewis Carroll's putative use of complex mathematical codes in the text, or debate his alleged use of opium, young readers simply dive with Alice through the rabbit hole, pursuing "The dream-child moving through a land / Of wonders wild and new." There they encounter the White Rabbit, the Queen of Hearts, the Mock Turtle, and the Mad Hatter, among a multitude of other characters--extinct, fantastical, and commonplace creatures. Alice journeys through this Wonderland, trying to fathom the meaning of her strange experiences. But they turn out to be "curiouser and curiouser," seemingly without moral or sense.

For more than 130 years, children have reveled in the delightfullynon-moralistic,non-educational virtues of this classic. In fact, at every turn, Alice's new companions scoff at her traditional education. The Mock Turtle, for example, remarks that he took the "regular course" in school: Reeling, Writhing, and branches of Arithmetic-Ambition, Distraction, Uglification, and Derision. Carroll believed John Tenniel's illustrations were as important as his text. Naturally, Carroll's instincts were good; the masterful drawings are inextricably tied to the well-loved story. (All ages)--Emilie Coulter

Jane begins life penniless and plain—an unlikely romantic heroine. But she is as indomitable in spirit as she is frail in appearance. Her relationship with Rochester intensifies, until she is forced to choose between the desires of her heart and the demands of a "moral" society.

customer 's reviewRelive one of the greatest adventure stories of all time in this unabridged edition. FIFTEEN MEN ON A DEAD MAN'S CHEST YO-HO-HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM! A treasure map where X marks the spot, a schooner set to sail, a onelegged seaman with a parrot on his shoulder, a boy whose bravery will be tested by murder, mutiny, and betrayal Robert Louis Stevenson s well-loved tale is the ultimate swashbuckling adventure. Sweeping a path from the sleepy English coast to the raging high seas to a tropical island concealing a buried treasure, this story of friendship and greed, loyalty and courage stars an unforgettable cast of characters: young Jim Hawkins, the terrifying Blind Pew, the wild man Ben Gunn, and one of literature s most dastardly villains, the charming, crafty, and utterly unscrupulous Long John Silver.
Climb aboard for the swashbuckling adventure of a lifetime.Treasure Islandhas enthralled (and caused slight seasickness) for decades. The names Long John Silver and Jim Hawkins are destined to remain pieces of folklore for as long as children want to read Robert Louis Stevenson's most famous book. With it's dastardly plot and motley crew of rogues and villains, it seems unlikely that children will ever say no to this timeless classic.--Naomi Gesinger

customer 's reviewWhile scholars today criticize the stereotypical rendering of characters in Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, in its time this novel was a hugely popular and influential work embraced by anti-slavery advocates around the world. So influential was Uncle Tom's Cabin, when President Abraham Lincoln first greeted author Harriet Beecher Stowe, he referred to her as the "little woman" who "caused all the trouble." Uncle Tom's Cabin centers around the trials of the religiously devout black slave Tom who is sold away from his family; a second plot line involves the mulatto woman Eliza, who flees slavery with her child when she learns she is to be sold.

customer 's reviewPainter Basil Hallward has done a portrait of a strange subject-youthful Dorian Gray, a man with a mysterious and tangled history. The young man broods on how unfair it is that he will age and his portrait will remain ever young. He wishes with all his might that it were otherwise - and in some bizarre, magical way - it is! This is a novel of dark wonders brilliantly brought to life in the heralded Marvel Illustrated style. Collects Marvel Illustrated: Picture of Dorian Gray #1-6.
A lush, cautionary tale of a life of vileness and deception or a loving portrait of the aesthetic impulse run rampant? Why not both? After Basil Hallward paints a beautiful, young man's portrait, his subject's frivolous wish that the picture change and he remain the same comes true. Dorian Gray's picture grows aged and corrupt while he continues to appear fresh and innocent. After he kills a young woman, "as surely as if I had cut her little throat with a knife," Dorian Gray is surprised to find no difference in his vision or surroundings. "The roses are not less lovely for all that. The birds sing just as happily in my garden."

As Hallward tries to make sense of his creation, his epigram-happy friend Lord Henry Wotton encourages Dorian in his sensual quest with any number of Wildean paradoxes, including the delightful "When we are happy we are always good, but when we are good we are not always happy." But despite its many languorous pleasures,The Picture of Dorian Grayis an imperfect work. Compared to the two (voyeuristic) older men, Dorian is a bore, and his search for ever new sensations far less fun than the novel's drawing-room discussions. Even more oddly, the moral message of the novel contradicts many of Wilde's supposed aims, not least "no artist has ethical sympathies. An ethical sympathy in an artist is an unpardonable mannerism of style." Nonetheless, the glamour boy gets his just deserts. And Wilde, defending Dorian Gray, had it both ways: "All excess, as well as all renunciation, brings its own punishment."

customer 's reviewThe Jungle Book is Rudyard Kipling's classic tale of a lost boy raised by animals in the wilds of India. Mowgli is a young boy in the jungle. He has no human parents or companions. But what he does have is a bear, a panther, and other creatures who advise and befriend him. Together they face many dangers and adventures, as Mowgli finds himself in the clutches of the Monkey People, and confronts the wrath of Shere Khan, the tiger who separated him from his human family. Generating numerous stage and screen adaptations since it was written in the 1890s, The Jungle Book is one of the best-known and best-loved works of fiction in the world.

customer 's reviewWhen life gives you lemons, kill zombies -- turns out lemon juice neutralizes the undead.

This critically acclaimed book is now available as a graphic novel!

After a failed attempt at running away, best friends Nathan and Misty return home expecting to face angry parents. Instead, they discover the military has destroyed the bridges out of their rural town and everyone's fled--except a small horde of the living dead. The stress of flesh-eating zombies may be more than their already strained relationship can handle.

Even with the help of the town geek and lemonade-powered Super-Soakers, there's not enough time to squeeze their way out of this sticky mess. Unless the trio eradicates the zombie infestation, while avoiding the deadly zombie snot, the military will blow the town, and them, to pulp.

Their only shot is something with a lot more punch. Something like the Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb. But even if their friendship survives, there's another problem: Someone has to lure the undead into the trap.

"I enjoyed Super Zombie Juice Mega Bomb, it is such a fun -- and scary -- adventure. I couldn't stop turning the pages as I watched Nathan and Misty try to make their way out of a zombie-infested small town. Nathan's genuine voice wins over from the start. His puzzlement over how his long friendship with Misty seems to be changing now that they have turned into teens adds to the story, making it more than just zombie-whacking action -- not that zombie-whacking is in short supply." -- Laura Lond, author of My Sparkling Misfortune.

Includes two free short stories.
Print version is approximately 208 pages (40,000 words). Contains over 30 images and is the same text as the non-graphic novel edition, so please do not buy both.
Parents note: This book contains no cursing or strong language, and no explicit gore or violence. However, scenes of intense zombie action may be disturbing to younger readers.

customer 's review

“And, in the dark, a thought came to me that no one had ever had before me: I wanted to kill someone, just in order to dare.”

This graphic adaptation ofCrime and Punishmentmasterfully illuminates Dostoevsky’s psychological thriller. Acclaimed French artist Alain Korkos vividly brings to life the mental anguish and moral dilemmas that plague Raskolnikov, a poor St. Petersburg student who murders a miserly pawnbroker. In this classic of Russian literature, the hero, unable to quell his guilt and paranoia, falls from a self-styled “super human” to a tormented soul in search of redemption. Both a philosophical inquiry and searing social critique, this suspense-driven drama remains as widely popular today as ever.

Mired in poverty, the student Raskolnikov nevertheless thinks well of himself. Of his pawnbroker he takes a different view, and in deciding to do away with her he sets in motion his own tragic downfall. Dostoyevsky's penetrating novel of an intellectual whose moral compass goes haywire, and the detective who hunts him down for his terrible crime, is a stunning psychological portrait, a thriller and a profound meditation on guilt and retribution.
