Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's reviewThey Could No Longer Contain Themselvescontains, but just barely, five chapbooks of flash fiction, including the winner of the third annual Rose Metal Press short short chapbook contest, and four of the finalists from the fourth. Dropped toddlers, attempted drownings, juvenile promiscuity, road trips, and inappropriate therapy sessions compose the multivoiced family portrait inDear Mother Monster, Dear Daughter Mistakeby Elizabeth J. Colen. Yoga stalkers, guns and gold, babies with iron stomachs, drunkards with t-shirt cannons, and warlocks are the stuff ofDo Not Touch Me Not Now Not Everby John Jodzio. Dominatrixes and fetishists, face paint and goo, fierce parental love and perverse longings cohabitate inEvan's House and the Other Boys Who Live Thereby Tim Jones-Yelvington. Leukemia, meteorites, Wal-Mart, bocce ball, Charlie Brown's clinical depression, the language of talking crows and of Che Guevara's omelets fill the eggs inHow Some People Like Their Eggsby Sean Lovelace. And small stories about pretty girls who sit quietly and behave themselves (or not) populate the pages ofPaper and Tasselsby Mary Miller. The uncontainability of each of these remarkable collections suggests the exuberance of the flash fiction form itself, including the way in which, despite its small size, it pushes past its own borders and into the territory of something larger and impossible to confine.

Edgeworth herself said she removed the interracial marriage from the third edition of the book "because my father has great delicacies and scruples of conscience about encouraging such marriages." This edition preserves the complete text of the original story which was considered so controversial in its time. Literary critic George Saintsbury argued that Jane Austen's naturalistic female characters owed a debt to this society novel's spirited heroine.Belindawas itself in the tradition of society novels by writers such as Frances Sheridan and Frances Burney, who also charted the travails of bright young women in search of a good marriage. Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's reviewThis is something different. Rather than being a book about Reiki for the general public to read, this is a copy of the actual training manual given to Reiki Master Teacher students of Reiki Evolution, the well-known UK Reiki training organisation. The manual is different for several reasons. Firstly, it is easy-to-read, down-to-earth and really comprehensive, a complete and clear guide to the practice of Reiki at Master Level. The manual is all about Reiki, and Reiki alone, rather than about various New Age practices that have crept into Reiki over the years, like crystals and Angels and spirit guides. And rather than presenting the Western style of Reiki that is covered in most Reiki books on the market (usually described as Traditional Usui Reiki), this manual focuses on the form of Reiki that was taught by Reiki's founder, Mikao Usui, in the 1920s in Japan, and is based on information coming from a group of elderly students of Reiki's founder. In its original form Reiki was not so much a treatment method as a simple self-healing and self/spiritual-development method which could potentially be used on other people. So in this manual you will (1) learn energy practices that you can use on yourself each day to further your self-healing and your spiritual development - the use of kotodama (Shinto mantras), special Buddhist-style meditations and self-empowerment (self-attunement) methods, (2) you will learn a simple approach to the use of the Reiki symbols and kotodama, (3) you will focus on opening yourself to intuition and explore the power of intuition and intent within Reiki practice, (4) you will learn how to use Reiju empowerments to `connect' students to Reiki at all levels - a wonderful, elegant energy-dance. Original Reiki is all about using a simple and non-dogmatic approach to working on yourself and treating others. Many people attending Reiki courses do not receive any sort of a course manual, or perhaps just a few sheets of paper, and the Reiki Evolution Master Teacher manual will be of great help to those who have already learned Reiki at RMT level, but who want to have more of a solid and informative exploration of the subject, or who want to learn more about the system that Reiki's founder was teaching, rather than the Western version taught on most Reiki courses. RUDYARD KIPLING

price:
Northpointe Classics(2012-02-09)
customer 's reviewThe Jungle Book (1894) is a collection of stories by British Nobel laureate Rudyard Kipling. The stories were first published in magazines in 1893–94. The original publications contain illustrations, some by Rudyard's father, John Lockwood Kipling. Kipling was born in India and spent the first six years of his childhood there. After about ten years in England, he went back to India and worked there for about six-and-half years. These stories were written when Kipling lived in Vermont.
The tales in the book (and also those in The Second Jungle Book which followed in 1895, and which includes five further stories about Mowgli) are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons. The verses of The Law of the Jungle, for example, lay down rules for the safety of individuals, families and communities. Kipling put in them nearly everything he knew or "heard or dreamed about the Indian jungle." Other readers have interpreted the work as allegories of the politics and society of the time. The best-known of them are the three stories revolving around the adventures of an abandoned "man cub" Mowgli who is raised by wolves in the Indian jungle. The most famous of the other stories are probably "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi", the story of a heroic mongoose, and "Toomai of the Elephants", the tale of a young elephant-handler. As with much of Kipling's work, each of the stories is preceded by a piece of verse, and succeeded by another.
The Jungle Book, because of its moral tone, came to be used as a motivational book by the Cub Scouts, a junior element of the Scouting movement. This use of the book's universe was approved by Kipling after a direct petition of Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movement, who had originally asked for the author's permission for the use of the Memory Game from Kim in his scheme to develop the morale and fitness of working-class youths in cities. Akela, the head wolf in The Jungle Book, has become a senior figure in the movement, the name being traditionally adopted by the leader of each Cub Scout pack.
Joseph Rudyard Kipling (30 December 1865– 18 January 1936) was an English poet, short-story writer, and novelist chiefly remembered for his celebration of British imperialism, tales and poems of British soldiers in India, and his tales for children. Kipling received the 1907 Nobel Prize for Literature. He was born in Bombay, in the Bombay Presidency of British India, and was taken by his family to England when he was five years old, Kipling is best known for his works of fiction, including The Jungle Book (a collection of stories which includes "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi"), Just So Stories (1902) (1894), Kim (1901) (a tale of adventure), many short stories, including "The Man Who Would Be King" (1888); and his poems, including Mandalay (1890), Gunga Din (1890), The White Man's Burden (1899) and If— (1910). He is regarded as a major "innovator in the art of the short story"; his children's books are enduring classics of children's literature; and his best works are said to exhibit "a versatile and luminous narrative gift".
Kipling was one of the most popular writers in England, in both prose and verse, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Henry James said: "Kipling strikes me personally as the most complete man of genius (as distinct from fine intelligence) that I have ever known." In 1907 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, making him the first English-language writer to receive the prize, and to date he remains its youngest recipient. Among other honors, he was sounded out for the British Poet Laureateship and on several occasions for a knighthood, all of which he declined.

It is widely held that many of the finest writers of the classic ghostly and macabre story were women. Some would propose that this remains true among modern exponents of the craft. It was certainly true of Amelia Edwards whose collection of otherworldly fiction is highly regarded and extensive, notwithstanding her many other talents. It is interesting that Edwards came into contact with another famous ghost story writer, Charles Dickens, as a consequence of providing articles, poetry and stories for his magazine, Household Words. Whether by coincidence or design Edwards' literary style was so similar to Dickens' as to cause confusion as to the identity of the actual author of some stories. Whilst this will please Dickens aficionados, Edwards own work stands on its own merits as a fine collection of Victorian gothic tales. In later life Edwards became an Egyptologist and was responsible for the preservation of many priceless monuments and artefacts. Available in soft cover and hard cover with dust jacket. Leonaur hard covers make fine collectors editions featuring real cloth bindings, taped head and tail bands and gold foil lettering upon their spines.
