Bromodichloromethane (BR) is a by-product of the chlorination of drinking water. It has been shown to be carcinogenic at multiple sites in rats and in mice after administration by gavage in corn oil. To further characterize its dose-response relationships for eval. of human risk, BR was nominated for toxicity and carcinogenicity studies in rats and mice by drinking water exposure. Male F344/N rats and female B6C3F1 mice were exposed to BR in drinking water for 3 weeks or 2 years. Genetic toxicology studies were conducted in Salmonella typhimurium, L5178Y mouse lymphoma cells, cultured Chinese hamster ovary cells, mouse bone marrow cell, and mouse peripheral blood erythrocytes. None of these studies showed evidence of carcinogenic activity. Illustrations. < THE OFFICIAL ITV F1 SPORT GRAND PRIX GUIDE 2000 >
