(I love it!)
(SMT moves to the Dual Screen)
(A wonderful surprise) When it comes to the JRPG one thing is for sure, it's definitely got a home on the Nintendo DS. There are tons to choose from and the good news is that most of them are actually really good. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor may actually be among the best you can get on the Nintendo DS. It's got a good story packed with a lot of addictive gameplay that works out really well, and happens to be slightly different than what some are used to.
Lately Atlus has been no stranger to producing anything to the Nintendo DS. They've released several. Some are really good, some are average but very few have been mediocre. In terms of strategy RPG, Atlus rarely disappoints, and Shin Megami is no different. It's a wonderful game.
As usual, the story in Shin Megami happens to be pretty good, with a lot of really well written dialog in there for good measure. However, as is the case with most games in the series, it's very text heavy. There are many times when you'll find yourself reading through the story and the text. It's a dialog heavy game, but at least the story is good.
Where the game begins to show its stuff is when you're actually playing. While the moments between battles can be long, when you actually get to do some battling, it's a lot of fun. At first it seems like your typical traditional strategy RPG. You move one character from one place to another. However, when you actually confront your enemy it switches to being a more traditional RPG. First and foremost, there are tons of demons that you can get a hold of throughout your travels. And they all have their own set of abilities and can even be combined and customized in many different ways. There are tons of demons but also a lot of things you can do. You more or less fight "groups" whenever you get into a battle, usually consisting of a leader and two demons you have to take on. These moments play almost exactly like a traditional RPG.
Even better is "The Observer". This is more or less your base of operations. "The Observer" knows the future. This lets you know when you can go into battles and when you can do certain events. Also, you'll know when certain characters will die. Part of your job is to change the future in these instances. If you fail to do so you do lose characters. At the very least you get a pretty sizable party and plenty of demons to move around with.
Graphically, Atlus is not exactly the cream of the crop. Most of their games have unique art styles at least. The same can be said here. The art style is definitely great, although the graphics themselves aren't fantastic. That's not to say they aren't good. For the most part the visuals are. Particularly in battle. However you're mostly treated to those story cutscenes with the sprites. These still look pretty good in and of themselves though. Also, most RPGs on the DS are about style over substance, especially SRPGs. Style is definitely something Devil Survivor has. Yet even better is the games soundtrack, which is composed of some pretty fine tunes, several of which you'll remember long after you've turned the game off.
Perhaps the only real problem with Devil Survivor is that it's not an especially long game. The story itself is relatively short (despite some long exchanges throughout). Yet even with being short, one is bound to get a ton of gameplay out of it.
Atlus has given us quite a gem here. It's a very fun game with a very involving story and fantastic gameplay. The DS already has a number of RPGs to choose from, and it's a good thing Devil Survivor is among them. It's a fun game that nearly an RPGer can enjoy. I'm shocked how much I enjoy this game. Even though I usually only use my DS for traveling, I've now been playing at home. Normally I avoid strategy/tactic games, but this one had me hooked from the moment I started. So even if you're like me (and couldn't get into FF Tactics or Eternal Poison), give this game a chance!
The main character is custom-made; you decide everything from his personality to his stats and skills. The other team members are more preset, but earning (cracking) and assigning their skills is entirely up to you. As for demons, those who have played other Shin Megami Tensei games will be familiar with the fusing system. The process of building a successful party is complex, but enjoyable and not hard to pick up on.
As far as difficulty, I'd say this game is easier than Nocturne or DDS, but more challenging than the Persona games. If you like those games, you'll enjoy this one. If you don't like them, what is wrong with you? If you haven't tried them yet, get on with it!
This game is about kids fighting with demons and going to hell. Sounds like right up my ally. I am a huge SMT fan (I own literally every game on the PS2 with the name......at least the ones released in the U.S.) I was kind of disappointed that there was not bonuses things included in the release (the art books in both persona games were awesome). I just started the game up about 5 hours into it and I am not much of a grid RPG fan but so far it has been a blast playing. Im just finding it hard not to kill everyone.
There is a learning curve in my opinion for those people who have not played a SMT game. You really have to learn the lingo of attacks (bufu, garu, hama, mudo) they really arn't as strait forward. But when you get the attacks down and your own personal strategy going your not going to want to put down this game.
Who should buy this game: -Teens looking for a good challenge and who like RPG games -ANY SMT fan -Anyone looking for something other than a kids game on their new DSi
Who should not buy this game: -Kids (trust me its not for them they will not understand the story line) -People who are sensitive to demonic literature (this game is full of demons and references to hell Lucifer ect.)
Over all very fun and unique twist to an already great series of games.
The Shin Megami Tensei series has grown on me the past couple years, mainly thanks to the great past few releases on the PS2. Now Atlus' long running RPG series makes its debut on the DS with Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor, and the results are just as spectacular. The game's storyline finds life in Tokyo going to Hell, pretty literally. With the ability to summon your own demons to take down the rampant baddies running around the city wreacking havoc, and time always working against you, Devil Survivor pits you in some interestingly designed battles that mix traditional turn-based attacks with a hearty amount of strategic input as well. There is a ton of character customization to behold as well, as well as the promise of multiple endings thanks to some many plot branches, which means that Devil Survivor is a game you will keep coming back to again and again. The game looks good and features plenty of atmosphere and nicely designed settings and character models, and having some addictive gameplay doesn't hurt matters either. If there's any drawbacks to the game, it's that there are a good amount of moments where you just seem to plod along, but these moments are few and far between. All in all, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor is another fantastic RPG on the DS, and if you're an RPG loving DS owner, you need to pick this game up, even if you're unfamiliar with the Shin Megami Tensei franchise. THE SHIN MEGAMI TENSEI SERIES FINALLY COMES TO NINTENDO DS! Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor marks the first time the popular RPG franchise has made its way onto Nintendo DS, and it certainly takes advantage of the opportunity. An incredibly innovative RPG/SRPG system, with tactical yet action-packed combat, compliments a powerful narrative in the great tradition of the SMT games. Fans will surely be thrilled with the stylish aesthetics, novel game mechanics, and original story, and newcomers will find a fresh new spin on the critically-acclaimed SMT universe. (Too difficult to be fun)
(I'm hooked!)
(Rhythm Heaven, TOO HARD)
(Warioware + rhythm = Addicted wife.) This game is wicked! It is good for short bursts and looooooooooooong play times. the only flaw is that there are only 25 1-3 minute long minigames, since the rest are simply redone versions. luckilly you can spend hours trying to get perfect on all the minigames. This game is cute and catchy at first, but after about 20 minutes of playing you realize you don't have as much rhythm as you thought. The best thing about this game is a feature that allows you to skip mini games that you can't beat after failing three times in a row. It's pretty discouraging because even though the game is challenging I felt like I was making progress, only to see "Try Again" flash on the screen. If I could have opened the window on the plane and thrown this game out I definitely would have. Only buy this game if you have an incredible amount of patience (or rhythm). I bought this for my daughter's 11th birthday. She plays it, my 5 and 8 yr olds play it, I play it and my hubby plays it. This game is fun and has universal appeal. It's not easy and gives a good challenge. My 5 yr old gets a bit frustrated but it's great to teach her that she has to practice to be good. I can't wait for a sequel (even though I haven't unlocked all the games yet on this one...) I tried Rhythm Heaven and I didn't like it, I couldn't even get past the first game. I am 12, and quite good at Video Games, but this one is just too hard unless you want to spend hours on end playing it. my wife is absolutely addicted to this game, and she's rarely into games. It reminds me of Warioware, but having to also keep with the music. Not my taste exactly, but I gave it a 5 due to the weeks it kept my wife occupied. Also, this game will actually help you learn to keep a beat and rhythm if you're one of those people (like me) that has no musical inclination whatsoever. Rhythm Heaven is a simple and infectious rhythm game that anyone can play. If you can tap your finger in time to music, you'll get the hang of Rhythm Heaven in no time! Rhythm Heaven features original music in dozens of rhythm-based minigames. The music, created by legendary Japanese pop-star producer TSUNKU, is addictive and catchy. Even though the controls are simple to grasp, each minigame challenges the player's grasp of rhythm by throwing in interesting beats and off-beats. Some mini-games involve slapping a man's arm, flicking animals out of a garden, and zapping spaceships! If you've ever found yourself tapping your foot or fingers to an infectious beat, then this game is for you. Get ready to show off your instinctive sense of rhythm as the music of Rhythm Heaven challenges you to demonstrate your percussive prowess. Prove you have what it takes to keep the beat alive in this fun and engaging experience. Rerations < Rhythm Heaven >

(Brain Age)
(GREAT GAME)
(it made me use my brainI) Brain age is pretty fun. I wish that it had more games than the few games it has. Since I acquired the Nintendo, I have enjoyed many games. Brain Age is the one that makes me feel like I am doing something of value. It guilts me into returning each day to see if I improve my scores. I can't vouch for it improving IQ but it does seem to teach us to improve on the tasks presented so if life ever presents a stroop test... I'm an ace. I enjoy the math but so far it can't read my handwriting so I fail in all of the handwriting portions which makes my brain age lower than it should be. I bought this to keep my brain active and I think the math helps that. I am working on the handwriting. BOUGHT THIS GAME FOR MY WIFE, BUT BOTH OUR 9 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND I LOVE IT ALSO!! In order to keep my brain sharp I try to do some sort of game each day and I found Brain age to also be fun. Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day is a fun, rewarding form of entertainment everyone can enjoy. Inspired by cutting-edge neuroscience, it's a full set of reading and mathematic exercises that stimulate the brain. At the start, you'll take a series of tests and get a score that determines how old your brain is. This is your "Brain Age" -- by performing daily exercises just minutes a day over weeks and months, the better you'll get and the lower your Brain Age will get. (LEGO Game: 10&Up)
(Finally -- a solid Real-Time-Strategy game for the DS)
(Not like Lego Batman. Good for older kids.)
(Lego Ages of Empire) This game is nothing like the Lego Star Wars, Lego Batman, or Lego Indiana Jones games. If you like strategy games, then you may like this game. However, if you really liked the set up of the Lego DS games, then this game is not for you.
My 7 yr old disliked this game and so did I. We are going to try and get a refund/credit. This is a really fun game but requires a lot of thinking that's typical of RTS (Real-Time Strategy)Games. Wouldn't recommend it for younger kids but definitely a fun (and addicting) game for the older ones.
Includes a lot of side missions like Finding Hidden Items, Achievements, and more that is typical of RTS games of the current generation. Acts/Videos during game play are of an amazing quality for the DS. First, what it's not. Lego Battles is not just another Lego shoot-em-up game for the DS. Your six year old will probably hate it, if they aren't willing to learn how to play real-time strategy games. This isn't a game where you run around shooting things. This is a game where you build cities, control soldiers, builders, heroes, etc. Is it fun? absolutely.
This game feels like Warcraft 2 for the DS, which is a compliment. It's a great RTS with Castles, Barracks, Farms, soldiers, kings, workers, etc. It has some of the more "advanced" RTS controls, things like build queues, rally points, etc., which we've come to expect from games like Total Annihilation, Supreme Commander, and others.
I have really enjoyed this game because it fills a void: the missing RTS for the DS. I've looked around, but hadn't found anything good in this genre on the DS. Lego Battles allows you to strategically build cities, plan battles, etc. My only complaint is that some of the early campaigns are very easy. I wish there were a way to increase the difficulty. That said, it's an outstanding game. Highly recommended. This game is good if you know what to expect. This game is a strategy game more along the lines of "Age of Empires." I purchased it for my 5 year-old thinking it would be like the other Lego games. He can't play it, but I am enjoying it. I will have to get him another game to make up for it. This game is a stradegy game much like Ages of Empires, but a little more easier to use. The sound effects and graphics are consitant with the other lego games and there are many cute mini movies. You basically deploy your Lego men to do different tasks like build a farm, Castle, military post... etc and build men to fight and defend them from attcking enimies. There is a mini campaign in the game and a built in tutorial and also free play. I do admit it is hard for younger players and it is nothing like the other lego games like the Starwars, Batman, and Indian Jones. I had my 7 year old try it and he likes it, but says its too hard to control everyone at once. LEGO Battles features elements of three popular LEGO toy themes: LEGO Space, LEGO Castle, and LEGO Pirates, offering a new kind of¿build and battle¿ LEGO gameplay. Through six distinct story lines, players build their own LEGO bases and battle teams as they engage in 90 different levels. Players can then mix and match units to create the ultimate customized LEGO squad. LEGO Battles is an action-packed adventure for young gamers where swordsmen clash with pirates and ninjas face off against alien spaceships with multiple opportunities for customization and un-lockable treasures. Players can also challenge friends on the battlefield in multiplayer mode through wireless DS multi-card play.

(Good Choice)
(fun!)
(Newer and better model.) I finally got one of these after spending a bit of time playing with my sister's model. This is what sold me on it! The downside of online shopping is not being able to see the real item. I like this Nintendo DS a lot! I mostly enjoy puzzle type games, having never got Mario through the first stage even once, but finding Tetris to be a severe addiction... I was looking for a device on which to play it as I can't seem to find the original Game Boy. I do have the DS Tetris version and am getting the hang of it. I find the DS to be engaging and easy to use. I got screen savers as I do have one game that requires a good bit of aggression on my part to make things happen [Rhythm Nation], but for most of the time a saver doesn't seem to be needed. Battery life is adequate, screens are superior to the original Game Boy. Haven't tried wi fi yet. And I love this color!! The gismo has substance and seems like it has good quality to its construction, but I also got it a case so it will stay nice no matter where I go with it. I found the "brain" games interesting and challenging. I haven't seen a great improvement on the games that I don't do well in but perhaps that comes after a while. Buying the DS Lite was such a good choice--especially when you find yourself waiting to see the physician and/or waiting for a train or bus. I am quite pleased with it and the ability to play Gameboy games even though the new DSi has come out. It is a fun little gadget to play games on. I thought that it would be more technologically advanced though. It's heavier and bigger than I thought as well. Overall though it's nice. I really like the silver. I love the DS lite. I play it every day. It has many new features on it that makes it helpful. Like, the brightness level, ds download play, date and time settings, pictochat, and much more. The games for it r awsome. It is much lighter, brighter, and smaller than the old one. The wireless multiplayer mode makes it much eaiser and fun to play. Even if u dont have the same game u can still play it on multiplayer. However some games u do have to have the same game and others if u dont, u may not be able to play the whole game features if u dont have the same game but it still works. It has an amazing wi-fi mode to play on the wireless internet with people around the world. There is a microphone u can buy too that allows u to talk with other people. This is an amazing system. The Nintendo DS Lite is a high-powered handheld video game system in a sleek folding design– loaded with features for a unique gaming experience. The color screens are now even brighter – and the lower touch screen provides a totally new way of playing and controlling games. Use the built-in wireless mode to share games, chat or even play multiplayer games on-line via Nintendo Wi-FiConnection. Play impressive 3-D rendered Nintendo DS games – and play all your favorite Game Boy® Advance games in single player mode. Rerations < Nintendo DS Lite Onyx Black >

(Fun, but repetitive)
(Present for my niece)
(Boring...)
(Good for Older Kids) At first I was annoyed with this game because I wasn't making anything. I'm still not so good at making certain things in the game but in real life of course it's easier. This game is challenging and fun. It's fun but it gets boring after awhile. It is my 5th DS game and ranked 4th out of my collection. I prefer Mario Kart and Nintendogs: Chihuahua&Friends. I brought this game for my niece, she had scene it before as her friend has it too. She really loves it, keeps her entertained for hours. DOn't get me wrong- I think it's a very cute game, the graphics are right on, the concept is nice, and it's mildly amusing, but I played for an hour or so and realized that it doesn't really get that much more difficult and there are much more entertaining games out there. If I want to cook, I can just go to my kitchen. However if I want to slay monsters I go to my DS :)
I think it's great for kids and may potentially give them an interest to learn about cooking. It may even be something nice for the casual gamer who just wants to kill a little time.
I don't want to hate on it, because it's not a bad game, but it's not particularly exciting or stimulating.
Also, this game made me terribly hungry in that one hour or so that I played.
Cooking Mama is a lot of fun but not what I was expecting. I got it for my 11 year old daughter. Her friend has Cooking Mama 2 and they are both addicting to the Mama series. I recently got her the game. She does enjoy this game a lot but I hear her yelling at her DS occasionaly. She has showed me the game and I think it's very cute. Though on some steps it's very frusterating. She really likes it but is already on her 3rd way through because she completed everything. It has very cutesy graphics but the part where Mama's eyes go on fire and she looks like she is going to throttle someone is a bit much. Overall Cooking Mama is a fun game but should only be bought for children 8 and up. Let's get cookin', Mama! Now you can learn how to cook on your Nintendo DS! Prepare foods, combine raw ingredients, cook the meal and present your culinary masterpiece to Mama for your final score. Rerations < Cooking Mama >

(Great for 6+)
(Better for the kids than any game)
(Very inconsistent handwriting recognition)
(Amazingly fun! Most of the time.) During a recent illness I needed to be quiet and still so my husband bought me a Nintendo DSI and I purchased Brain Age 2. It's great! Lots of neat games that make you think and a virus game that is similar to Tetris and loads of fun. My husband got a DSI for Father's day and we share the game. It asks us to do acrostics and draw pictures and then compare them to each others, or to name what we think the other person's picture is. Great for waiting at the MD office, traveling to the MD office, or doing something that is not everything else I've had to do to be still and quiet. I'm not a video game person by any means. I'm 50 and my husband is 57. We both really like it. However, this would not be appropriate for younger children; I would say older teen and up. This is great for kids 6+. When my son was 5, he struggled a little bit. So did we, with some of the word puzzles! Otherwise it is a good buy. I got this game for a very bright 9 year old child as a birthday gift. His parents told me that it was the only thing he was interested in playing with out of all his gifts. He was totally absorbed in trying to beat his previous scores in math and letter puzzles. For the right kid this game is a 10. This game is frustrating. The handwriting recognition works just well enough to make the game enjoyable and challenging. But the same handwriting recognition also fails enough times to make you cuss at the game more than you should.
The games are extremely time sensitive. A difference of even one second makes all the difference in your score. I must admit the frustration level reaches a high level when a score is substantially reduced only because the handwriting recognition misconstrues say "4" as a "21".
I have some doubts whether this game makes a person more mentally acute. The game's origin has some dubious scientific authenticity.
Overall, I half recommend this game. It would be so much better and far less frustrating if it had a more consistent handwriting recognition. At first it looks like there's a lot of games to play on this, but after a while it just gets limited. And the floating head guy can get annoying after a while. But it's a fun game.
I managed to get my Brain Age to 22 a couple of days ago, but today I only got one of 32. I'll tell you why.
You're expected to write fast, and that means compromising your ability to remember that you have to draw your 3's center spike shorter than the rest in order to not have it read as a 2, and your i's have to either have lines on the top and bottom or a dot, else it's read as an L and wastes your time. This gets frustrating when you're trying to maintain a good score, so you (or at least I) end up turning off the DS and turning it back on. But the frustration's already there. STRESS IS BAD FOR YOUR MENTAL CAPACITY.
The times it messes up are few, but when it does, it's stressful because it's a good game that you want to get good at.
On a side note, I also hate the 5x5 grid game. I don't see how it relates to any real-life memory skill... I just know that if you remember, say, 9-10, it really increases your Brain Age. I just don't know why it's that important of a skill to remember a 5x5 grid of numbers exactly. Rerations < Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day! >

(My son gives this a 5 star :))
(It Does Work)
(Great game adapter)
(Works If You Know What You're Doing) My 7 year old son says that he likes it but that some of the "cheats" for Pokemon Platinum don't work. Be really careful not to do the "quick update" as stated in earlier reviews. I told my son about it but the first thing he did was the quick update and wipe everything out! I did the following steps and it worked fine. This has been the most excited I've seen my son in a long time! :)
Try resetting the Action Replay by following these steps:
Insert the Action Replay into the DS While the Action Replay software is loading, press and hold all the following buttons: A + B + Start + Select. Release all of the buttons once the Action Replay is at the main menu. The first screen should persist for much longer than normal, and when the Action Replay DS main menu loads, your hardware should be reset.
Once the reset has been performed, try connecting the USB cable to your PC, opening up the code manager software and transferring data again.
It won't return all of your games back, but it will allow you to start on a clean slate again.
Yes this product works very well, it helped me beat my game in the few days it took me to fly from Spokane Washington where I'm stationed to my deployed location over in the Middle East, where I am at right now. I love this product, and if other people would learn to read to see what they need to do, then they would too. Although I have an unfair advantage, I work on computers for a living for the U.S. Air Force> My son is very happy with this game adapter. It is what he was expecting When I first got it, I was like WTF, how do I set this crap up? But then I just looked it up on youtube. "How to set up action replay" And it works great after you get it set up. I've made so many legit looking hacked EV trained (not over the 510 limit) pokemon. They work fine on battle revolution on wifi, they're not hacked over anything that you couldn't normally do, I just didn't have to do the work. :P Even the odds by arming yourself with infinite health, bullets, and time. Unlock secret levels, characters and vehicles. Now you can become all poerful and beat any game. Action Replay is already pre-loaded with totally unauthorized cheat codes for all the latest and greatest Nintendo DS games and you can easliy update the Action Replay with new codes. Action Replays contains everything you need to put the power in your hands today! Rerations < DS Lite Action Replay >

(A workout for the brain)
Lighter, brighter and smaller than the original DS, the Nintendo DS Lite is no less fun! With a variety of new features, brighter screens and adjustable backlighting, the DS Lite sets itself apart from every other hand-held gaming system on the market. More visible LED lights Center microphone Larger stylus for a better grip Easy-to-reach Start and Select buttons Removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when not in use Color - Crimson Black Rerations < Nintendo DS Lite Crimson / Black >

customer 's review (Bought 4 me and my 6 yr old plays it.)
(Back to my younger years)
(Ok kind of games)
(Battleship is as good as ever)
(Portable Classics!) I bought this game for me to play and my 6yr old gets more play out of it then I do. He loves playing Battleship!!!!!!!! I enjoyed the DS version of these games so much when I played them with my granddaugter that I had to get one for myself. It takes me back to my younger years! i bought this by looking into that one disk 4 games. But the games are ok kind not very good. Battleship is great. Connect 4 has one big issue - the gamepiece sometimes drops in the wrong place. Otherwise it is a fun game and extremely difficult to win unless you are patient. I bought this game for my daughter. She is having fun with it and so am I! This is a great way of playing those classic games without getting the game out of your closet or when you are traveling. I believe you can play multiple players between two ds units if you have two of the games cards. BATTLESHIP: Using your skill and logic, can you be the first to sink all 5 of your opponent's ships before they can sink yours! CONNECT FOUR: Horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal. All you have to get is four in a row...Take turns dropping checkers into place, and try to get four in a row in any direction-while preventing your opponent from doing it first! SORRY! the classic game of slide and pursuit, has been supercharged for your Nintendo DS¿ system! Be the first player to move all four of your pawns around the game board from Start to Home. TROUBLE: Hop you pegs around the track. Land on an opponent's peg and bump it back home. Keep poppin' and hoppin' to get all pegs to the finish line first.
