(disappointed)
(Great educational game)
(Dora Saves the Mermaid for Toddlers/Preschoolers)
(Great Game) I purchased this game for my six year old. She received a DS for her six year birthday and I figured I wanted to buy her an easy game to start with. This game is extremely easy and she loves it. My three year old son even loves it and he has already learned how to play the games. It has been a week and they both still enjoy this game. The only reason I gave this a four is because I wish it had more games. I guess really that is my only request but my kids don't care and haven't complained that they are bored. I would say the game is more for three to six year olds and it seems too easy for my six year old...although she still likes playing it. A great game for new DS players and now she loves the system and wants more games! I'm happy with this purchase. I bought this for my daughters 6th b-day. I think she played it the day she opened it and hasn't played it since. She tells me that it is toooo easy and it was over too quickly. very disappointing. We got this game for our three year old girl and she just loves it. She is now four and it is still one of her favorite games. My two year old son is obsessed with his sisters DS and constantly insisted "pay DS..pay DS". I purchased the Dora game for him and it is PERFECT for a young child. With just a little help from me or sister, he has had a great time tapping and moving Dora with the controls. The simplicity of the game makes it a great choice for a younger child. I would love to find another similar game for him. My daughter got this game for her 6th birthday and she loves it. It's very easy for her to play. Dora and Boots need your help bringing a magic crown back to Mariana the Mermaid. Travel over land and sea to save her kingdom from a mean, garbage-dumping Octopus! Then help Dora dive to the rescue when she magically becomes a mermaid herself! Rerations < Dora the Explorer: Dora Saves the Mermaids >

(Excellent Buy)
(Nice for the price) This kit is great, the case is nice. Everything fits my daughters ds perfect. I bought this item for my little girl and she loves it and is a great started kit for the DS. The case is semi hard and will help with those hard drops to the ground. The charging dock is a good place for the "where it goes when your done" the car charger and ear peices are needed for those long trips in the car, so it keeps them busy and cuts out the noise. This also comes with protective covers for the screens. All and all good buy. i just bought for my daughter and like it so i just recommend this ds kit We really like this kit. The charger and carrying case are fantastic. Also the other parts of the kit are pretty useful. Worth the price and highly recommend it. This was very nice for the price - However, I thought the charger stand was a waste. Take your DS Lite gaming to the next level. The ICON Starter Kit includes four Game Cases to protect your cartridges from dust and scratches, Headphones to enjoy high-quality sound, an Audio Splitter so you and your best friend can listen to music together, a Car Adapter to give you the power you need when you are on the road, a Docking Station to display and charge your DS Lite in fashion, four Screen Protectors to protect both of your DS Lite screens, a soft Protective Case to protect your DS Lite, a Neck Strap to carry your DS Lite anywhere, three replacement Styluses and three Finger-tip Styluses to easily manage your DS Lite's communication features. (Amazing!)
(Creepy, but good....)
(Good game.)
(The good does not outweigh the bad) I was looking for another "scary" game for the DS. I bought this game after reading the reviews because it looked like a good game and I was very excited after receiving it in the mail.
So I start playing the game...the start is very simple, choose a heart..the left or the right to store your game data. There's no extras, no information about anything else. Next thing I know, I'm playing this character who I know nothing about and I'm learning the controls and now I'm wandering in some hospital of some sort.
That's what bothered me, the game had absolutely no storyline presented at the beginning, and I understand that you play and find out whats going on...and I did, yet I still think the storyline was not well developed at all.
Now, if you don't care for story in a game and just enjoy shooting stuff, then I'm sure you'll love the game.
But in my opinion, the game was poorly developed when it came to the storyline. Also they could have added more than two DIFFERENT bosses (not including the last one), add more difficulty to the bosses, and add more different enemies.
What I did enjoy was the music and the ease of the controls.
I'd say rent the game, don't bother buying it. After all it'll take 6 hours MAX to pass it.
Okay, first of all for those people writing reviews saying the game is bad based on it's controls need to just throw there ds in the garbage because all of the games are controlled this way on the ds, at least all of the fps games for that matter. Now this game will be hit or miss for some, but if you are a silent hill or resident evil or any type of horror gamer I would most definitely recommend you pick this up, because it has one flaw and that being a pretty unrewarding save system, but I am telling you from the bottom of may heart there is something to this game that I do not believe we have seen before and it truly stands out because of it. Definitely a classic game and will stand the test of time because of great graphics, characters and overall fun and unique game play. I have this game, and I like it. Great choice for Halloween. It's a bit creepy--the maw zombie, yikes!!--but interesting. The sound is great, and I use headphones when I play, so it won't creep anyone out. The heartbeat sound and monitor is a neat touch.
I can find my way around pretty good, and I don't seem to have any trouble saving. It's a bit hard to fight, but I'm trying. Yes, it is dark, but if you play this with Action Replay, you can keep the lights on.
Overall a good choice if you're looking for a good survival horror game. Just don't play it alone in the dark, or right before going to sleep-creepy!!! Yikes!!! :) Pretty good survival/horror game for the DS. Decent enough graphics for the DS. The control scheme took some time getting used to. My wife and I both enjoy it. Overall, not a bad game, but not really a good one either. It has a lot of potential: the atmosphere and storyline is good, the creatures are well done and can be frustrating to kill (in a good way), and the sound and controls are both well done. However, the gameplay itself is a bit monotonous and frustrating. It's not always clear where you need to go next, and the severe lack of ammo and ability of enemies to respawn in a particular area makes exploring next to impossible. Only allowing game saves at the end of a chapter can at times make this a very difficult game. Or at least an annoying one, if you've already solved most of the chapter already. All in all, worth a look at, but unless you really like the genre, you are better off with something else.
Dementium: The Ward tells the tale of a man who awakens to find himself alone in a mysterious, derelict hospital that is frozen in time. Confronted by the deadly, grotesque surgical experiments that wander the halls, a series of challenging puzzles and a cast of peculiar characters, he must face his deepest fears, unlock the mysteries of the hospital, and escape with his life. A completely new experience on the Nintendo DS, Dementium promises to creep you out with gory visuals and bone-chilling audio that brings the world screaming to life. (Bleh . . . .) This game is awesome !!!!!!!!!! I really enjoy playing it ,its ten times bettter than naruto Ninja council 3 is very hard to beat but in the end you always have fun
also when you get to the Gaara part it can be really hard but heresa tip before you start go to the level where you have to catch might gay with rock lee and you would find a life that might help not to have a game over so fast
I picked up this game expecting something like Path of Ninja 2, which was great but short. It's not, it's much more of an action adventure game, which isn't a bad thing.
Pros; I've only been able to get to the part with Garra, but after the prologue, you can choose which character you want to play as for the most part. Lots of exploration. The fighting is a bit of fun for certain characters.
Cons; The backgrounds are boring and flavorless. You MUST start the game with Naurto. The character sprites are inconsistent; Sakura's gloves go from full length to fingerless based on what move you are doing. Only one female character can be played as a main (not support) avatar, that would be Sakura. The game is glitchy. I can't get Garra to wall run in a certain area, and it has totally prohibited any progress past stage 2 for me. Characters like Garra are sooooo slow, and Neji has a short range, yet they all take off the same damage! The save system is horrible; the stages are long and if you die, you go right back to the very beginning. Even with the top screen acting as a map to show you where you can do a wall run, it doesn't show enough to see if you jump down, whether or not you will die. The music is a bit irritating. Horrible level design.
I wish I could get further, because I really enjoy playing as Sakura and Neji, but I keep dying with Garra! If you are a Naruto fan, wait until the price goes down to $[...]! But stay FAR AWAY if you don't like or are not familiar with the Naruto series!!! TOMY Corporation is proud to present the first Nintendo DS game based on the all-new Naruto Shippuden storyline! (Line Rider 2: Unbound DS)
(Not as much fun as expected) My 4 yrs old son loves this game, he wouldn't stop playing. I guess the game is easy enough for him to play. My 9 yr old son lovvvvvvvves this game...he first found it for free to play on the internet. Fell in love with it and wanted it for his DS ... he has hours of creative play with it...it's an excellent game for kids...you should buy this if your child loves to create and laugh!!
I ordered this game for my 11-year-old son. He had played Line Rider on the PC with the free version for a couple years now. He absolutely loves the DS version. He is able to create all kinds of courses. It is very flexible, and he spends hours working on his courses to design them. Great product for a great price. So much fun! Creative for the kids and better than the on-line version, which is also pretty entertaining for my kids. Fun on DS because you can actually draw the line instead of dragging a mouse. My son received this game at the same time as Kirby Superstar Ultra. He loves playing Line Rider on the PC, so he really wanted the DS version. While he can't seem to put Kirby down, he has only played Line Rider twice. I asked him why and he said it's just not much fun. In Line Rider, the sled-stealing scumbag Chaz is up to no good and only you, as the clever and cunning Bosh, can defeat him. (Disappointing)
(NOT EASY AS SOME SAY)
(OK but not Great.)
(nancy drew game) The game was recieved in a timely manner and in excellent condition. Unfortunately, the game itself was found to be boring not only by me, but my daughter as well. I was very disappointed in it. Game play feels like it was designed by a first grader. Very disappointing for a Nancy Drew game. This game seems easy at the beginning but later it is hard to know what to do next. There are many people stuck at different levels of the game beyond the very beginning and there is no walkthrough available yet. I read the requests for help from many people at www.cheats.com, in the section of Questions and Answers. Some got replies, many didn't. I have two tunning forks, three pieces of musical clues on paper, a poem, a sheet from the book being searched for, I found the empty box of the book, handed it to the guy, and I am stuck. Nothing new is happening and Nancy only walks up and down all around the building. If this game is so easy, how come so many people have found themselves stuck at different points and NOT ONE PERSON HAS BEEN ABLE TO WRITE A WALKTHROUGH YET?? I Started this game several weeks ago, but have'nt finished it yet. It was hard to get starting because I did'nt understand what I needed to do to get the game going. After 2 weeks of on and off playing I did manage to "get it" and understand a bit better. The game is ok but it takes a bit (at least for me at 43 years old) to figure out what I was supposed to do. I played "Hotel Dusk room 215" Before this one. So it was a difficult transition. The Game is not layed out that great. Give it a try but don't get your hopes up too high. The stuck shortly after you begin and you can figure out what to do next. The Clue Bender Society, a group consisting of the world’s greatest detectives, is looking for their newest member. Teen super-sleuth Nancy Drew is among three exceptional candidates that could make the cut if she can solve a series of pre-determined challenges before the others. But when a secret tome containing the solutions to history’s greatestmysteries goes missing, the Clue Bender Society’s test case becomes real; they turn to Nancy and the other applicants to help recover the book before it ends up in the wrong hands. With only 24 hours to solve the case and earn membership into the Society, Nancy Drew will have to be at the top ofher game. Rerations < Nancy Drew: The Mystery of the Clue Bender Society >

(Great Game!!!)
(hack link)
(forcing a player to use the stylus is ALWAYS bad...)
(It's a little harder than I thought it would be) This is a really good game. It combines fun and strategy all into one. I bought this game for my 10 year old son. He loves it and plays it all the time. Sonic is controlled in the same way as Link in Phantom Hourglass and this system works fine, but it is a little frustrating that you have to use the stylus. During battles when you just want to tap A and get through them quickly, you can't, you have to click attack and then select the target. It isn't a huge problem, but it is just a bit frustrating. I love Sonic, but any Sonic fan will tell you the blue speedball hasn't been in a decent game since the Genesis. Stylus-only games are the worst. Even if you don't mind it as a control scheme, it obscures the view of the game and where you are going to some extent. I have never played a bad Legend of Zelda game, but Phantom Hourglass has sit unopened for many months now because I'm scared the stylus-only controls of that will make me trade it in after a few minutes on that one too. Which will break my heart. The Minish Cap was incredible, I just can't believe they went to the hamfisted controls for PH. The stylus should ALWAYS be optional, especially if you are going to use it for movement, battle, items, etc....in other words everything. The Summon Night night games on GBA were great RPGs but Twin Age on DS is unplayable because of the stylus-only controls. BioWare is a great RPG company, why did they drop the ball with the controls? I got this game on sale while CC was closing down and it was one of the few DS games that were still on the shelf. To be honest I don't think I would have gotten this game at full price since I'm not a very big sonic or even bioware fan but it's an RPG and I like those so at the price CC was selling why not?
It's pretty simple in the sense that you can move about and press buttons to do things (like dash, fly, or whack) and you can only do things depending on what characters you have.
The hardest thing was the villains and fighting in general, it was super hard and annoying.
1. You take turns to fight (which is normal) but for some reason you pick your moves for two rounds at a time - I don't know why it's not too annoying unless you are dying and you can't heal yourself because you're stuck on the second round and already picked your moves a round ago... I guess this just calls for more thinking ahead but still sometimes you don't know how strong a bad guy is until they hit you.
2. You have to do pressing, flowing and all kinds of stuff with you stylus to do special moves and block special moves of bad guys... this came a little fast on me when I started playing... I got use to it but I still felt like it was annoying.
3. There is chasing... sometimes you have to chase the bad guys to fight them or when you run away, they chase you and you have to poke at characters to jump over boxes, sometimes there are multiple boxes in the way which means you can't jump over all of them.
All of these things made me find the fighting part of the game to be a little involved and slightly annoying.
Not only this the bad guys get strong really fast so you have to go back and re-fight other bad guys to level up but as I said before about how annoying the fight part is, I felt it wasn't worth it.
This game would be a lot more fun if the fighting wasn't so involved, I found it difficult to have fun and pay attention to all the little things I had to do in the fight so I could survive.
If you like this type of game play / RPG than this might be the game for you, for me I like FF style where you pick moves every round and that's it you don't have to do special things, I guess bioware was trying to use the DS to it's full potential but it was just over whelming after a while. Sonic and his friends have banded together with leading RPG developer BioWare to create a stylish blend of strategy and speed for Sonic’s first RPG, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood. Exclusively for the Nintendo DS, Sonic Chronicles mixes a rich story, hand-painted visuals, fast-paced team combat, and wireless collectible trading into a uniquely compelling adventure. Rhythmically tapping and dragging with the stylus in Sonic-style battles, players can level up and use Rings to buy new special attacks as they progress through 20 different and beautifully hand-drawn areas including new and classic Sonic locales. With an engaging storyline, lightning fast attacks, high production values, and impeccable visuals, Sonic Chronicles allows gamers to experience Sonic in a whole new way. Online Trading and Collecting: Collect several types of artificial Chao lifeforms, each with varying power-ups and abilities that help in combat and elsewhere. Players can exchange their Chao with friends via local wireless play. customer 's review (great replacement battery for original DS)
(This really does fit the DS (with some help)) OEM battery finally died and needed a cheap replacement. Yeah, it's made in China, but so is the genuine Nintendo battery! This one came in a nice fancy looking package and looks to be pretty well made. It fit perfectly and lasts as long as it should on a full charge. Can't beat it for $5 shipped! I purchased this battery for a DS (not DS Lite). It wouldn't fit when I tried to install it. After a little investigation, I found that there are two little "tabs" on the top of the battery that are supposed to match holes in the DS battery compartment. They didn't match on my unit. I cut the tabs off with a nail clipper and the battery went in and works perfectly. Hopefully, this tip will prevent some needless returns.

(New Age Knowledge)
(Fun and Interactive)
(Certainly a very unique title with endless opportunities!) I picked up Avalon Code after trying a short demo version. The idea of playing around with the "codes", being able to choose the gender of your character, and naturally getting a boy/girlfriend, all sounded appealing. Overall, I found Avalon Code to be an addicting, enjoyable game. There's always something new to discover, and I've played through several times already, both as a girl and a boy. The graphics are very well done, and I love all of the characters' and monsters' designs. The cutscenes,if you get as attached to the characters as I did, are very emotional. Avalon Code combines my two favorite kinds of games, puzzles and RPGs, into one! The most frustrating aspect of the game is, as others have mentioned, finding the codes. I would also suggest carefully reading the instruction manual before hand, and getting hints from your Spirit guide as often as possible. When I first heard of this game, I started geeking out. It sounded too good to be true. A game that let you mess with the very fabric of the experience. Unfortunately, the actual product is a bit of a mess. First off, you are drooped into the game with no knowledge of the controls or even who the heck your character is or what he is supposed to be doing. This lack of information worked out well in the Rune Factory games, which are made by the same people, but here it just feels wrong. It doesn't even give you a reason why you as a player are kept in the dark. In Rune Factory, your character has amnesia. Here, your character has a life that seems familiar to him but totally alien to you. It's like trying to play the life of a stranger that you have never met. The story is almost nonexistent and the tutorials are terrible. However, the main hook of the game works better than I expected. The ability to switch "codes" around to bring about different items and qualities is solid. It's fun just to mix codes and see what happens. My personal favorite is the flaming goblins. However, finding codes when you need them is a pain. There is no search engine to find them. You must go through page by page of the over 1000 page book of prophecy to find what you need. Inanely tedious, especially in boos fights and when you need to switch a weapons attributes on the fly. Overall, the game play is fun, but hard. This is definitely not a game for kids. I recommend it to hard core RPG fans looking for something new. The level up system is strange, and the layers of strategy often end up creating a feeling of barely contained chaos. The map is also an issue. it is a cross between a world map and a map of individual areas that often leaves you with no clear picture of how one area connects to another. My opinion: If your a glutton for punishment or a grand master of RPG's, give this a try. If not, try something else.
This game really offers a lot to do. You basically go around hitting everything with you Book of Prophesy, from plants to people to monsters. Say your in the middle of a hard battle. Your can just your enemy with the book, and rearrange their codes to turn them into stone, or take away their strength. And if your the type who likes to take their time, your in luck; the games pauses while rearranging the codes of anything. There is a lot of activity on the net about this title--but I've been waiting to see what it gets here on amazon. Guess I got a little too tired to wait--so I went out and bought it myself.
The graphics are very good and certainly engaging. The music is pretty good but, surprisingly, I wasn't wowed by it. The gameplay is very unqiue--I've never seen anything like it! While I think this game plays more like Legend of Zelda than Chrono Trigger or FF I actually would encourage more people to pick up this little gem even if you are not traditionally a player of RPG---if you like Zelda type puzzle/action games you should check this game out!
It's hard to really describe well the gameplay. Basically you have things like recipes and you "scan" objects with a book--and each object (could be character, weapon, flower, etc) is made up of different codes. How you work with those codes and re arrange them is what this game is all about. The story is o.k.-- a bit different. The fun comes in figuring out the codes for certain things. For example one of the beginning enemies (Mul) can be scanned and has codes. I replaced one of its codes with a code for ILL and that made the enemies easier to defeat. It also works the other way--early on there is an animal you need to "save" so you need to find specific codes to heal the animal.
Dungeon's are a mix of puzzle and hack and slash--with strategy thrown in at times. They were a little repetitive for me but again it's a dungeon--the fun is in beating up enemies and solving puzzles--regardless of whether they all look similar or not.
I will say this game REALLY needed a guide to go with it. And that's the downside for me. Although I'm sure some children could play this I really think it might be too complicated for the younger crowd. Exploration can be very tedious and some points are hard to find. As many other reviewers have pointed out the book itself needed a search feature. I'm not even 1/2 way through and it is a pain to constantly have to go through the book to find the code you want--again why I don't think I'd recommend this for young children. I am sure I'll probably come up with some level of organization for the codes but I would have preferred that this already exist as it really makes a difference.
To some degree I think Avalon Code would appeal most to fans of Zelda or other puzzle/adventure type games rather than those who go for old school JRPG (which this is clearly not!). Although I am enjoying it I must admit to finding it very frustrating in places--but what I prefer in my games is a bit more straight forwardness. I like RPG's where I can level up and use weapons and buy new weapons and equiptment and so on. A la Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest or even tactical's like Luminous Arc.
Overall though this is a very clever unqiue title. And there's the beauty---we all seem to want some level of innovation in our games--give us something new, something fresh, something that makes us think and challenges us. Avalon Code delivers on this in spades. I would have given it a solid 5 stars IF the Book of Prophecy had a search feature or you were able to hold more code,if it didn't cost MP to swap codes, and if there were more in game tutorials or other help as it can get pretty complicated. I think this holds it back from being a contender for best new game (like TWEWY last year). However, if you want something new, fresh, innovative and unique--Avalon Code is your game! A crimson sky¿ You stand tall atop a tower looking down upon a world consumed by flames. An old man beside you opens his mouth to speak; ¿Time has expired for this world, but the records of this book shall create the next...¿ Your eyes snap open. You jump out of bed, covered in sweat. It was only a dream. ¿That dream again¿¿ You¿ve been having this strange dream quite often lately. Was it really only a dream? Dazed, your eyes wander about the room when you notice a book atop the desk. The pages in it are all blank¿ ¿What is this?¿ A spirit arises from the book and enlightens you on the prophetic nature of the book you behold. Upon the insistence of the spirit, you leave on a journey to complete the book and change the world. From the creative minds behindRune FactoryandHarvest Moonwith the development studio responsible for theFinal Fantasy IIIandFinal Fantasy IVDS remakes comesAvalon Code, a single player action RPG boasting incredible graphics, a deep and engrossing story and innovative game play mechanics. Using the main character’s ‘Book of Prophecy,’ players can save items and modify the rules of engagement during battle as well as change weapon and monster attributes. The player even has control over the story as it changes, depending on which gender the player chooses to play as, enhancing the ability to immerse themselves into the story. The Book of Prophecy holds all. View larger. | Engage in 2-fisted combat. View larger. | A world of colorful characters. View larger. | The Story From out of nowhere as you look around and all you see a crimson sky. You stand high atop a tower looking down upon a world consumed by flames. An old man beside you opens his mouth and speaks:“Time has expired for this world, but the records of this book shall create the next...” Suddenly your eyes snap open and you jump out of bed, covered in sweat, but not necessarily surprised. It was only a dream, but unfortunately an all too familiar and frightening dream that you’ve been having quite often lately. Dazed, your sleep-filled eyes wander about the room as they always do when you wake, but something is different this time. There is a book atop the desk, a book full of blank pages. But this no empty tome. It seems that a spirit of sorts named "Rempo" is bound to this book and as you are drawn closer it enlightens you on the nature of the book you behold. It is known as the "Book of Prophecy" and upon the insistence of the spirit, you leave on a journey to to fill its pages and in the process make an impact on the world, the likes of which you never could have foreseen.Gameplay The connection between your dream as the main character and the book you are shown by Rempo is that the world has been slated for destruction, but only temporarily. The powers that be intend to recreate what they destroy, but require a blueprint for this, which is the purpose of the book. It is your job to seek out all the things that are to be recreated and note them in the book. But nothing is so straightforward in an RPG. There are forces in the world that would keep you from your appointed task. You must foil them by using the book itself.Although the Book of Prophecy does serve as a storage device, it is much more than that. It is player's main tool, having a part in almost every aspect of the game. It takes a comprehensive snapshot of whatever it comes in contact with. This can be things as different and disconnected as a blade of grass and a sword. But as this is happens players will see that nothing is quite what it appears. All items are made up of a collection of attributes, many of which go unnoticed in their natural state. Once broken done into their separate pieces and laid out in the book, not unlike LEGO in the hands of a child or genes under the microscope of a scientist, these can recombined as the player sees fit to alter the strengths and weakness of enemies, solve puzzles, etc. Another added gameplay element that players will enjoy relates to the gender of the playable hero/heroine they choose. Although the beginning scenarios faced by either will be very similar, their end points may be quite different, allowing for hours of extra game time and replayability.Key Game Features:- Top-Level Development Talent- The experienced Nintendo DS development team behind theFinal Fantasy IIIandFinal Fantasy IVremakes, Matrix Software, is at the helm together with the creative minds behind theHarvest MoonandRune Factoryseries.

customer 's review (Funnest Sims game for ds)
(It's different)
(Sims2 for Nintendo DS)
(Not Like The Sims on PC, but fun for a video game.)
(Fun fun fun) I'd say this definitely is better then the my Sims series or then Sims castaway. Let's say if you are used to the basic Sims content, you won't be disappointed. The rating is 10+ because of kissing and romance between Sims and computer lottery and gambling. I'd say 9 and up. There aren't a whole lot of mini games, and time on the game isn't the usual short Sims time, but the real human time so it's a little slow. Also, you can change your clothes with quite a variety, but you can't buy new outfits if that matters to you. In this game you run a hotel and your goal is to please your guests to the max and get a 100% rating on your hotel. This game has some unique cute features such a small cell phone with custom ring tones, cute exotic pets, furniture shopping, painting, and beep boxing. At first the whole scheme of the game can be found dull and boring, but patience is rewarded! First if your buying this game expecting a hand held version of the either the PC classic or even the console version, your gonna be soley disappointed. It's called Sims2, but in some ways it's not the same. You play a person(who you can create just like in other Sims games) who's car breaks down in a small town, while waiting for your car to be fixed you take on the role of a hotel manager. Unlike the other games, you have an objective, to build and run your hotel. There's a prety colorful cast of oddballs(most of whom are pictured on the cover) and as you build rooms and check people in get to know them etc etc.
There is no woohooing, or any other areas you can explore. You have a series of goals that you have to achieve and it's almost like a regular game with some sims mechanics to it.
Does that make it a bad game, simply because it's not a carbon copy of the other? Absolutely not. In fact, while some tasks as others have mentioned get repetitive, the main goals are quirky enough to keep you interested and there's a bit of social commentary about the dangers of conformity with one. The people you meet are an odd bunch indeed, a gangster, his daughter, an arrogant out of work sci-fi actor(I'll give you 3 guesses who he's based on, and the first 2 don't count), a mummy, a moleman, an alien just to name a few.
One thing I found interesting is the game is played in real-time. For example, it take 8hrs to build a room. Now to those familiar with the PC Sims knows that an hour is a minute. However in this game, it really is 8hrs. If you start a room being built at 1pm, the room will be finished a 9pm. And yes, as one other reviewer pointed out, the game progresses even when your not playing. So if you build a room at 1pm even if you don't play again until 9pm, the room will still be done.
There are some flaws to the game, one of the minigames is to repel an alien invasion and it's difficult to aim at the aliens especially on the sundeck where you end up aiming at furniture.(note to those having trouble, dress as the rattinator) Also, when you bust crooks you have a split second between stunning them and throwing a rattarang before they escape. So you end up having to leave the screen and comeback and try again.
It's also not clear in the game how your supposed to deal with the mole king(hit him with the water gun) and Optimus Alfred(you have to beat him 3 times, including defeating a swarm of robots twice)
The real-time nature of the game has a drawback. Guests will check out of the hotel even when your not playing and if they're not in a good mood(moods change as well when not playing) they will check out and not pay fully. Keep track of what days your guests are checking out and try if you can to play at some point during the day to make sure they're in a good mood.
Also those who played Sims the Urbz will recognize some of the NPC's in the game. To those who haven't played it, it only refernces the Urbz once. When you build up relationships with the NPC(none playable characters) they give secrets and on Sim says he was replaced by a robot in the previous game. That's a reference to the Urbz, but that's the only one that'll leave those who haven't played it baffled.
All in all, despite it's shortcomings with the real-time problem issues and side missions being a little repetetive, if your a fan of the Sims, I say at least check it out. This game is a riot! I have had it a month now and haven't gotten bored with it yet. I purchased it used, and it's frozen up on me a couple of times, so I've learned to save my game frequently. I like the challenges that are presented and you never know what or when they will happen. I created two Sims and both games were different to a degree on when things happened during the game. If you purchase it, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am. I also purchased one for my daughter-in-law, and we are both addicted to Sims games. I bought this video game used at Game Stop for myself. I used to be a huge Sims fan, but haven't had a lot of time to play it in the last few years. I knew this wasn't going to be like the PC game--I figured it was a scaled down version of the same game. So I was pretty disappointed when other than deciding on your character's appearance and clothes, the game is nothing like the The Sims at all. It's more like an action/adventure/puzzler type of game. The premise is your Sim's car breaks down in Strangetown, a Roswell type village in the middle of the desert, and since the locals think you have nothing else better to do with your time, they recruit you to run their hotel. After that, you're sent on various missions, like getting building permits, finding certain items, cheering people up, fighting off aliens with water guns, etc. Unlike the regular Sims game, there are very few things that are customizable. The only thing I give credit for is that the creators of the games were awfully creative when designing their scenarios. Either that, or they were ingesting/smoking some illegal substance. Still, I'll give them kudos to that.
Even though I personally was disappointed in the game, my daughter loves it. She told me that it was better than Kirby Superstar Ultra, which is saying something, because she adores Kirby.
My husband has played The Sims 2 on DS and he liked it a lot too, though he told me it's boring after you have done all the missions and just have to run the hotel. Neither he or my daughter have played The Sims PC game, so they have nothing to compare it to.
So, in short, if you're looking for a mini version of The Sims PC game, this isn't it. But if you like weird fun games that send you on various missions, you probably will enjoy it. This game is really fun. There is alot of missions and tasks you have to do untill you finish it. It's not THAT hard but definitely not easy either. You get to run a hotel and personalize your own suite as well as your outfit and hairstyle. You can fight aliens, robots, and goons. It's really, really fun! The Sims 2 gives you the fun of the classic SIms world, in a portable and easy-to-navigate format. Create a fictional life for your Sims and keep them happy, healthy and prosperous! Direct an entire Sims' lifetime, and try to get them to reach their goals in life. Will they have a long, successful and happy life - or will they end up poor and heartbroken? It's up to you!
