There is dedicated for storing games, but there is a mesh pocket that can hold a variety of things, including about 4 games (stacked). The outside material seems very durable, as does the zipper. Overall, the case is worth the price. Rerations < Nintendo DS Mini Folio Black >

(Better than expected.)
(Can't compare...)
(Assassin's Creed: Altair's Chronicles)
(Unenjoyable.) This is a fun game to play. My three year old son has really enjoyed beating up the bad guys with his sword. It has some reading, but it really isn't necessary to be able to read, since you just follow the arrow to where you need to go. He has really enjoyed it so far. The story line is that you are basically on the other side of the crusades and the Templers are the "bad guys". So you are an assassin killing off the Templar. Not exactly the "team" I really would be on, so it is probably best my son can't read just yet. Other than the storyline, the game itself is fun. The graphics are good, the game play is good, and it is overall a fun game. Just be aware of the story line. This story line could be very touchy especially in today's world with the strife still going on in the Middle East. Now the assassins strap bombs on themselves and blow themselves up in crowds of people, hoping to take out their targets. The "holy war" still continues today, unfortunately. This is why I had to give it a lower grade then it would have received from me.
[...]
I hope this helps with your decision to buy this or not. For some the story line may not be a big deal and just want to play a fun game, for others it could be a big deal. So I wanted to make you aware of it all. I got Assassins's Creed when it was on sale for $15 a couple weeks back, so if you can find it for cheap, than it is worth it, but i wouldn't waste $30 on it. After reading all the mediocre reviews, I had pretty low expectations for the game, but it defintely isn't as bad as a lot of people are saying it is.
I, too, have yet to play the console version, so i can't compare, hoeever, you can't really compare a handheld version the console versions, its not really fair. So far, i think it's a solid platformer, and I have yet to run into any of these so called glitches or anything. It's not quite worth 5 stars, but it does deserve a better rating than what it has now. Its probably worth 3.5-4. Heres to hoping Assassins Creed DS 2 is a little less of a platformer and more like the console versions. I think I'm one of the few people who hasn't played this on the XBox, so I can't compare the two different versions (but there seems to already be plenty of those reviews). I picked this game up a few weeks ago when it was a Gold Box deal, I figured it was worth a try for the price.
Overall I found the game enjoyable, but felt that it ended too soon. I got to the final battle and found myself saying "that's it?" I felt very cheated by the outcome of the game. I would have liked for it to play out a bit more. So now, it has me thinking about buying the XBox version now, so that I can find out what happens next.
I think it would probably be a good introduction to the XBox/PS version of Assassin's Creed. I know some other reviews mentioned having difficulty control Altair, but for the most part I found it fairly easy - possibly because I have never played the other version, so I didn't have to learn a new set of controls. There were some weapons that I felt they could've done without. I didn't find the posion daggers or smoke bombs to be effective at all in a combat setting. I mainly relied heavily on my sword, and occasionily the crossbow (which comes up later in the game, but isn't available all the time). Very good, better than i expected from a handheld game, obviously does not measure up to original, but much better than expected, good gameplay, interesting plot, if a bit sketchy, some glitches, but nothing major, very good game over-all I simply did not enjoy this game. I expected a portable version of the console game, and I was largely disappointed when I played a mediocre platformer.
The controls are clunky, and while the graphics push the DS to their limits, the unrealistic death scenes, cheap deaths such as hitting the water, and overall clunky controls with the D-Pad are just lame. It felt like a platformer from the Nintendo 64 age. And while the mini-games are fun, the lower-half of the DS is sparingly used, and the graphical effects beyond the textured 3D are just unimpressive and unimaginative. The game lacks the stealth components and free-roaming game-play that made its console big-brother great.
I was hugely disappointed and it was a waste of my money. I wouldn't recommend this to anybody. Developed specifically for the Nintendo DS, Assassin's Creed : Altair's Chronicles tells the story of Altair before the events in the console version. The setting is 1191 AD. The Third Crusade is tearing the Holy Land apart. You, Altair, intend to stop the hostilities by suppressing both sides of the conflict. You are an Assassin, a warrior shrouded in secrecy and feared for your ruthlessness. Your actions can throw your immediate environment into chaos, and your existence will shape events during this pivotal moment in history. Be an Assassin Master the skills, tactics, and weapons of history's deadliest and most secretive clan of warriors. Plan your attacks, strike without mercy, and fight your way to escape. Realistic and responsive environments-Crowds react to your moves and will either help or hinder you on your quests. Action with a new dimension -- total freedom Eliminate your targets wherever, whenever, and however. Stalk your prey through richly detailed, historically accurate, open-ended environments. (contact made)
(play it, collect it)
(Contact Koopa, He Write Review)
(Contact Provides Hours of Fun) This game was very interesting it played like a computer game, has a great story line with plenty of wacky, kookiness from the professor, and has descent graphics too. The view is from above and the attack system unique but easily handled. It's RPG play leaves lots of options for customizing weapons and armor. So many little tidbits and places to explore. I recomment this to action/ adventure fans. It took awhile but finally completed the game. Although Contact doesnt really require you to spend 40 to 50 hours to complete it. You can probably should do more than just run through the game. Otherwise you are liable to miss out on some cool sidequests and other items that you would miss. You are controlling Terry or whatever you name him as he has washed up on a beach on deserted island. The professor and his pet make contact with him waking him up after he's collapsed.
He gives you this way of contacting and coming back to the ship, you will also be able to heal yourself with other decals that he comes across and gives to you.
You will also be able to collect different decals mostly from monster drops and attach them thereby gaining a bonus in whatever the decal says. You can equip up to four of them at once.
Your goal is basic at first and that is to collect this cell's that the Professor needs to power the ship. It is innocent enough for awhile but he's not being totally honest which you'll find out later in the game. You have many skills Vocational (Fishing, Lockpicking/Thief, Cooking) and proficiencies in the many different weapons that you'll collect Types (Slashing, Striking and Punching). Using the different weapons will up your skill in those areas. He is also able to cast different types of magic (Earth/Water/Fire/Wind) and their secondary skills in each of those areas as well.
You will also build up Terry's stats: Strength (up it by attacking) Defense (getting hit helps here) Dexterity (hitting fast enemies ups this) Agility Wisdom (using different magic boosts this) Stamina (again taking damage ups this) Speed (spend some time running around to boost this)
Also Personality stats: Fame (defeating enemies) Courage (defeating stronger enemies than him) Karma (self explanatory)
It seems like a lot but once you start playing the game things will flow along pretty quickly. Main goal is collecting the cells but you run across others trying to do the same as you. You'll cross paths and battle from time to time and as you collect the cells you are able to venture out further and further to other islands and what not. Very enjoyable, pretty straight forward as long as you build up your character along the way you should have no problem beating whatever the game throws at you.
So give Contact a try and play it through straight forward or take the path less travelled and take your time through it. Either way its a journey that's worth taking and a well done game in its own right...thanks Atlus!!
I love Atlus games. This particular title had me smiling from the start with its unique story line, interactivity, and lush graphic concepts. If you like trying out unusual games that push the envelope a bit and make us rethink what games are all about, then buy this title. Contact is an interesting DS game. Interesting, interesting...
I don't read many gaming magazines, because unless I found an online offer for a free year's subscription, I dont think I would ever pay for one. I generally don't read online previews to games either, so I have very little idea about games that are about to be released.
Compared to many other DS games, Contact did have slightly more exposure than other games that were being released around the same time. October of 2006 was a hectic month, with Touch Detective an all these other interesting looking game covers splattered all over GameCrazys, GameStops, EB Games etc. all over.
So I bought Contact the day it came out, and I passed up on Point Blank DS, a game I picked up later anyway. Contact lends itself to be an interesting RPG, like none other I had played before. Of course, be not being a console gamer, I have no idea if there's other games like this one, but I'm sure there are.
Contact is very nitpicky on the gameplay. You have to wear certain outfits to perform certain tasks. This can get tedious, as you need to go all the way back to your base (some floating ship or UFO, I forget) to equip a Chef's outfit (to cook), a Fisherman's outfit (to fly... just kidding), etc. Your inventory slots also have an allotted amount of spaces, which allows the player to know exactly how many items can be obtained in the course of the game, much unlike the Final Fantasy series, which you need a guide to figure out the master item/weapon list.
The story is thick, unique. Once again, you have to associate "DS + Atlus = Unique". It's a very interesting, (somewhat unsuccessful in my opinion) implementation of the user (you) in the game.
I won't be a spoiler, so let's get to the point. Contact is tedious, and can get very very redundant. But let's be honest here .. aren't RPG's supposed to be redundant? Aren't you supposed to fight monsters to gain EXP and MONEY to buy things and buff your characte up so you can go on to do much more of the same throughout the later stages of the game?
So it is with Contact. It is an active fighting RPG, so there's no magic moves or special abilities (save a few), much like Zelda. I think most users will agree that that's what makes the game eventually boring
It's a DS, users can't complain about not getting the full RPG experience as was readily available in PS2-like RPGs. DS RPGs will stick to the redundant nature of the SNES RPG that we all once loved so much a long time ago. Gamers have been spoiled by newer, flashier RPGs and expect too much from the DS. Even Final Fantasy III fell short of my expectations, but I quickly came to realize it would be this way with DS RPGs for a while. (Etrian Odyssey is a nice, fresh RPG that's actually fun. Thanks Atlus)
Still, it's not the greatest game in the world, but a decent pickup, as are most DS titles. Contact was $29.99 retail when first released, and I don't think it's strayed too far from the original price, although used it can be picked up for a good price. Contact is a very time consuming game, and if the value of the game is determined by the length of it, then you got yourself a gold mine here. This game is great for the RPG gamer who enjoys all aspects of life. Reminds me a lot of a mix between earth bound and animal crossing.
The only thing I hate is that it is very hard to do multi player (which is required to fully complete the game.) The other person has to have the game cartridge and have to both be able to connect to Wi Fi.
A piece of advice to those planning to share this game with family or friends: Get a separate game for each of you, otherwise you may never get to play again. It is quite addicting. In Contact, you'll become a direct part of your role-playing. A Professor's damaged spaceship crash lands on a mysterious planet. He discovers that the power sources ofhis ship, known as Cells, have been scattered across the world. To retrieve them all, The Professor enlists a brave young man named Terry -- and a brave video game player known as you! The Professor and Terry will ask for your help during the course of the adventure, using the Nintendo DS to "contact" you along the way. Rerations < Contact >

(Small screen can't contain the wonder of an Age!)
(I should have listended)
(Disappointing)
(Myst.....well, Missed) You won't be disappointed with this game. It is short, like the original computer game, but still fun and challenging. I love Myst. I have every version (original, Real Time, etc) and every sequel (Riven, Exile, etc), so of course I had to have the DS version as well. What a let down! Half the fun of the Myst series is the beautiful and fascinating detail of the Ages, which you can barely see on the DS screen. The other half of the fun in Myst is finding out all the little tasks you have to do in order to complete your work in each Age, and quite frankly, if I didn't already know what to do in each Age, the itty bitty screen pictures wouldn't have helped me. Reading the journals (another important thing in any Myst game) is annoying, with all the scrolling in every direction, and little touches like the opening animation in each Linking Book are gone. I can't recommend the DS version of Myst, but I highly recommend getting the PC version and playing it on the biggest monitor you can find (with the room lights out, too... you really feel like you're there!). Like most others I was excited to see Myst coming to the DS. I should have listend to the reviews. This game did not transfer well to the DS. It is extremly hard to nagivate and the screen is very little. The zoom feature may as well not be there it does nothing to help you look at things. If you love this game and own a DS DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! I would highly recommend you try it out from a game rental site before you buy it. I plan to trade mine in with only an hour played. I am a huge fan of the PS version of this game and was very excited to see they were making it available for the DS. I read the reviews on here and thought it couldn't possibly be as disappointing as the reviews showed. Well, don't kid yourself. The reviews are right. The graphics are pretty bad, the screen is too small making you nearly squint to see the finer details and there are some glitches. It's not worth it. Not even buying a used one is worth it. Sad. I eagerly awaited for that golden brown UPS package to show up on my porch after school. As the bus dropped me off I ran home, ripped open wrapping, and pushed that bay in my NDS. After an hour of trying to convince myself that it would get better; it didnt. I tried again the next day, no luck.
The puzzles are impossible! It's repetitive and boring. It makes you go back and forth to "try" different switches to see what will work. But if you, let's say, pull a lever, nothing will happen that will tell you it's right.
I have not played it since. In short: DON'T BUY IT!!!!!!!!!!! Myst is an immersive experience that draws you in and won't let you go. You enter a unique setting, venturing alone to varied times and places, the worlds that compose Myst. There are no instructions, and you encounter no living beings but soon realize your actions may help individuals who are somehow trapped in a parallel dimension. You must solve a multitude of puzzles, mazes, and problems, but Myst's principal attractions are its environment and the underlying intrafamily drama that unfolds as you explore. Myst offers no inventory, no death, and no dialogue. Although puzzles don't seem to have much direct connection to the game, they share a commonality. They take on many forms but follow a consistent thread. Some puzzles are very challenging, even obtuse. The nonlinear gameplay of Myst lets you go anywhere at any time.

(An awsome game!)
(Spectrobes)
(Spectrobes-the ups and downs)
(A wonderful game for kids!) General Info:
I just have beaten the first planet. The first planet is hard, especially your first battle on it, but overall I won it on my first try.
4The instructions are very complicated so please read them very carefully.
Don't always just do stuff you like to do such as not going out in the patrol cruiser. Always try to get the best spectrobes possible. To get an adult one which is so easy to get it, get a little guy which is an egg with wheels, put it in the incubator and feed it one mineral. Then you get an adult Spectrobe which is actually pretty good.
Try to always avoid black vortexes until you've learned the art of battling from practice. At first you don't always have a sword and a blaster but once you've gotten two cubes you can fly over to the narrow headquarters in your patrol cruiser. Then find the guy with the jet pack on -- wel. you may not think it is a jet pack. You can buy some awesome stuff but at first you get a free sword and a free blaster. I bought a level two glove and a level two sword. I haven't tried out the blaster yet but I think it is pretty good.
My friend Nick has almost beaten the game and is on to the leader Crawl. He says it is impossible! His friend Mike has already beat the game with his level one stuff.
You can find out about the levels in the instructions.
Minerals, Fossils and Cubes:
Also listed in the instructions. I'll give you a more advanced review about this. Your third spectrobe, a little, cute Cummo you have to awaken, which will be listed in the next section of this review, is a search Spectrobe. My friend Nick has, like, 8 Cummos. He says that the whole star system is Cummo heaven, which I don't think is true.
A search Spectrobe helps you find minerals, fossils and cubes. Cummo is a good search Spectrobe, but all the other Spectrobes you can find on the planet are just as good at searching. The Spectobes you can find, which I have, are a little eggy dude with wheels, and a sword guy. I've used each of them once in searching along with Cummo. And now I'll finally stop talking about search Spectrobes and go on to excavating minerals, fossils and cubes.
Some more useful stuff: Glesh is very good for mining minerals, fossils and cubes. You have to use drills to excavate them and you only get three pieces of equipment, including a blue drill, an orange drill and a blower. I find that the blue drill and the blower are the most useful. I don't really know the difference about the blue and the orange drill, though, but I like to use the blue drill most. I've only used the orange one once.
At first try not to get the gauge up to red, until you get some new tools. Actually, try never to get the gauge at red or else you will lose the fossil even if you are really close.
On the first planet, Adios, which you have to rescue, you have to get two cubes before you can go to headquarters. Good luck on getting those cubes! But first you have to get some more Spectrobes but you start with three. If you think that three is a lot, you are so wrong! I have about seven Spectrobes.
Even though I have seven Spectrobes, three of them are adults. That means I have a choice of three Spectrobes to use.
Cubes: Cubes have special effects on the game, such as the card input system. You have to unlock that with a cube, which I think is called the Beta Cube.
Fossils: You can mine these in some areas on Glesh and other planets. Sorry to disappoint you but you can only find about two Spectrobes on Glesh, the eggy dude and the sword guy. This section also links with the lab system section, because you have to awaken fossils. To awaken a fossil, tap "start" then go "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH..." If you've done that properly, you should now have a child Spectrobe, which goes gallivanting around the room like its won the Stanley Cup! This isn't a hockey review though. Imagine, Spectrobes playing hockey. You can now use the Spectrobe as a search Spectrobe or try and evolve it by putting it in the incubator.
Minerals: You can find so many minerals on Glesh. My favourite type is a health C mineral or a defence C mineral. Feed these to Spectrobes in the incubator. Advice: don't put evolved Spectrobes in the incubator because this would be kind of stupid because they're already at their best form, but if you want to, you can do it but I don't know what the point really is.
Lab System: The lab system is how you use the incubator and how you awaken Spectrobes and the library and the Spectrobe server. The lab system is probably one of my favourite parts of the game and one of the most useful. I'm not going to give a very good explanation of the lab system, though -- only the good parts that are useful. The incubator -- this is the only way to get Spectrobes to evolve. You first mine some minerals listed on the section "Minerals, Fossils and Cubes", drag the minerals you have mined up into the box. Then press the icon with the arrow on it. The box will appear. Place the mineral down. The Spectrobe will eat it. If you have two Spectrobes, both of them will eat it. Note: you can only have two Spectrobes at a time in each box.
The Main Characters and Battling
First, the character you are -- Ralen. Second, Jina. Third, Adios. Fourth, Commander Grant. Fifth, the Crawl. By the way, you have to defeat the Crawl using your Spectrobes. Here is the battle code, which is also available in the instructions:
X - attack, Ralen and Spectrobes. Y - follow me, Ralen only. Spectrobes follow Ralen. B - switch weapon, Ralen only.
Once you obtain some items from the base, drag them up onto the icon of the body on the prismod. Now you are using that piece of equipment.
The order goes like this:
Glove Sword Blaster Suit
Use these items to defeat the Crawl.
Since I am only on the first planet, this is all I know. I hope it is use to you. By the way, some advice: wherever there isn't a walkway on the planet, search here. Good luck on finding minerals, fossils and cubes and evolving and excavating Spectrobes! Those are my few final words. I wish you good luck with the game.
P.S. Don't make any comments about my very long review.
My 7 years old son loves this game. This is what he has to say. "Spectrobes is awesome! I've had it for a long time. It's about defeating the Krawl with Spectrobes. To get Spectrobes you have to hunt for their fossils and awaken them. You can evolve them into three forms. The last form is their strongest form. Now I'm onto getting all eight Geos. Geos can destroy most krawl in one hit. I almost won this game. It's not easy at all." This game is fun and my son loves digging up the fossils and loves the cards you can get to unlock more Spectrobes. Nanairo planetary patrol officer Rallen and his partner Jeena discover an escape pod with an old man inside. Nicknamed 'Mr. X' the man eventually awakes and informs Rallen about spectrobes, beasts that are used to fight the evil Krawl. This game, in short, is fast-paced, challenging, and interesting to the max. An action packed plotline brings Rallen to seven planets in search of the Krawl nest. Activties in this game include incubating Spectrobes, Battling krawl, and digging up and awakening fossils. I greatly enjoyed this game overall, and I am confident you will, too. I'm a 7 year old girl that LOVES the game Spectrobes and thinks that it's a wonderful game for kids! In the game, you must save the universe from the Krawl. You find a prizmod that holds creatures called Spectrobes. With the Spectrobes, you must fight the Krawl. Here are some tips on the game Spectrobes:Tip #1 After you rescue Aldous, you won't have have a child Spectrobe to find fossils, cubes and minerals. Don't worry! Talk to Aldous. He'll give you a fossil to awaken. Jeena won't let you go upstairs to talk to Aldous until you go to the healing pod(The green pod on the left of the elevator).Tip #2 When you have a Spectrobe in the incubator, drag your stylus over to the Spectrobe to pet it. Tip #3 Once you've found minerals, go to the incubator. Touch the mineral button with your stylus to feed the Spectrobe. Once the feed screen apears, drag one of the minerals over to the plate and touch the feed button to feed. Once the incubator screen apears, drag a mineral over to the Spectrobe. Well, thanks for being interested in the game Spectrobes. You should try it out for yourself! Spectrobes puts you in charge of a mission that could save the galaxy! Two junior Interplanetary Patrol officers, Rallen and Jeena, learn of strange, prehistoric creatures with strange powers called Spectrobes. They hold the key to defeating a vicious and merciless force, known only as the Krawl. Our two young heroes embark on a mission to save their galaxy: Excavate, awaken, train and collect all the Spectrobes they can -- and get them ready to battle the Krawl. Rerations < Spectrobes >

(Good franchise, but game is lacking when compared to rivals)
(Too much reading!!!)
(disney's the little mermaid : ariel's underseas adventure) I would not recommend this game. My daughter has trouble reading the small print even though she is 7.5 yrs old and my 3 yr old can't read it at all. The screen is constantly popping up with more stuff to read. Sometimes you have to click four or five times just to get past all of the |
