(If you like word games, you'll have fun with this one.)

(not as expected)

(Wordmaster)

(Not a bad game, but took some adjusting)

(Totally fun!)
While waiting for my daughter to finish her piano lessons, I picked up her DS and sampled Brain Age 2. I enjoyed it so much that Santa put a DS and games in my stocking for Christmas this year! WordMaster is one of the games I received. WordMaster tests your memory of 6 letter words, and the graphics are charming. I recommend it for those who want to add more brain exercises to their game library.
not what I expected to get. It is actully knid of hard and you really have to think to get the word. instructions are not the explict.
They don't have a lot of word games out there for the DS yet, so I bought this for myself as a stocking stuffer this past Christmas. I enjoy the game, but I play Word Jong much more than I do this game. It needs more things to do on the game.
This game took some time to get used to, as it doesn't provide a lot of direction or help. However, once you figure it out, it's really challenging and will get your brain going. It's not as good as WordJong, but it's close.
I love word puzzles and the day I got it, I played for 2 hours after only planning to play for a few minutes! It's very addicting. I read the one review that mentioned that the categories get repetitive and they do, but they've been different words each time. Some categories are so vague that it adds more challenge to the puzzle because you're not sure what they mean by the clue. It's a great way to unwind at the end of the day. I highly recommend it.
You've never played a vocabulary and strategy game as challenging and unique as Wordmaster! Based on the classic style of the "Mastermind" board game, Wordmaster uses your vocabulary and spelling skills to deduce hidden 6-letter words. But you'll have help - use the clues from the vocabulary guru, Master Sum Ting Wong, and follow your intuition to solve the puzzles. It's available only on the Nintendo DS, so you can pick-up-and-play anytime and anywhere you'd like! From the spelling novice to the vocabulary ace, everyone will enjoy Wordmaster.

(Completed game in 4 hours)

(Horrible format)

(Very fun!!!!)

(a awesome game)
I bought this game as well as the imagine wedding designer games. I completed this game in about 4 hours. It was cheezy, not thought provoking, and well boring. I'd advize on not getting any of the imagine games = Unless you are under 15.
I bought this game a couple a weeks ago and I really tried to get into it but I couldn't. It plays very weird. I own fashion designer ny and I love that game. I thought it would play the same way but it didn't so I traded it in for store credit at gamestop. Maybe someone else will have better luck than I did.
I am ten years old and I like this game a lot.It is very fun, but if you play it a lot, or you are very fast and don't make it the way you would want it in your house it might not be very fun. I asked a girl I knew,(she was 12)if she liked it, and she said she finished it in two days, and once you do that, you can do is make a bedroom for yourself, redo any previous tasks, and change the decoration for the store. This is very fun also, making a room, the most fun out of the three. If you aren't artistic though, I wouldn't buy this game. I like this game much better than imagine fashion designer.
This game can be challenging, easy and fun all at the same time.I recommend this game for girls who love to design stuff. Also when I was playing this game I had to ask a parent to explain what they wanted to be done somtimes. But over all I have alot of fun playing this game. I am 10 years old.

(The Next Rock On?)
There is no question, Nintendo has had the edge with the success of carrying music games on the go, thanks to the Guitar Hero: On Tour games. While the first 2 were revolutionary for the Nintendo DS, but there has been so much hype for the music games for the DS, thanks to Rhythm Heaven. But, while Guitar Hero: On Tour has been dominant, there has been some new competition thanks to Rock Band Unplugged for Sony's PSP, and with the upcoming Guitar Hero: Smash Hits for the home consoles soon. Buit, with the hype going around, the Nintendo DS has been at it again with a new Guitar Hero: On Tour game, but doe this one say rock on, or is it just a wreck?

Guitar Hero: On Tour Modern Hits for the Nintendo DS, brings in the latest of the musical franchises' game to rock onto the handheld. This one though is not available for the DSi, just the original DS and the DS Lite. The game doesn't honestly bring in a bigger vibe than the 2 previous DS titles though. The graphics do look good, and the control handles well. But, the game itself doesn't seperate itself or bring in the vibe that makes the game dominant. While you do have the same features from before in the story mode like choosing to play like bass guitar, lead, or battling in the dueling guitars mode, there is a new feature that does bring in a bit more challenge in the game well, and that is the fan request challenges like scoring a high score, or accomplishing a 300 note streak. They make the game a bit more challenging for you to earn special unlockables like new guitars and clothes to customize your players. The songlist was honestly not as strong as the 2 previous games either. While there are some standouts like Coldplay's Violent Hill, and Lenny Kravitz's Where Are We Runnin', the set list isn't as solid as I thought it would stand out.

All in all, with all the gameplay, Guitar Hero: On Tour Modern Hits, isn't a strong game as I though it would be. I thought some of the game was challenging, but overall git a bit tired of it. I really am a bit more eager to see how Rock Band Unplugged plays out on the PSP though. i think it might overtake the DS game here, and show it could rock out loud better than this did. Hopefully, if there is another one for the DS soon, it can score better than this one shined.

She spent a month running from the law, even though no one was looking, and hid out at a night club. (Super fun and then some.)

(Hidden Gem)

(This is a great little game!)

(A Pleasant Surprise)
A super fun game, that really puts the fun back in to Fungi :)
If you like side strollers, get it...
If you like puzzle games, get it...
If you like mushrooms, get it...

Pretty much this is one really really fun game.

Enjoy

I was smitten with how adorable the trailer video for this game is, so I bought it on a whim. I have to say, its been the most entertaining fun game I've played yet on my DS. The concepts are pretty simple, but it keeps my brain working the whole time, with some of the later puzzles becoming difficult enough to provide a mild challenge even for an adult. I played through the whole game relatively quickly, but have since gone back and replayed it several times, and am always playing levels over a ton of times trying to improve my score. It never grows old. I highly recommend this game to everyone I know with a DS.
I like platformer games but tend to be not-so-great at them. I mostly play RPG or puzzle type games. This game is quite fun. It is not overly complicated but it is not too easy. The graphics are fine and the little "movie" in the beginning is really very cute. I found the stylus controls to be exceptionally tight--and in a platformer this is really not an optional thing! It has enough tutorial that you are not spending endless amounts of time trying to figure things out which I can appreciate. I think this would be suitable for any age from about 5 up--there isn't really much reading as there are "pictures" to show you what to do so even a non reading 7 year old would likely be fine with this. There is no violence that I've encountered either which is a bonus for all us parents.

Overall I highly recommend. I think you would be very happy with this game for the amount you'll spend. I am particularly fond of the fact it saves after each piece of the level--unlike Mario games where death means going back to the beginning (again and again and again). You can replay levels you've done to higher the score. In terms of replay value I don't think it is something that will generate multiple replays from you---but for the price does it really need to? I operate under the assumption (your mileage may vary!) that a game for twenty bucks isn't going to provide a lot of replay.

I picked this up expecting a silly platformer that my nephew and I could enjoy. While it delivered in that regard I was pleasantly surprised to find myself thoroughly engaged in the game. It starts out as a simple Mario-like platformer with simple levels and puzzles but before I knew it I was transfixed. As the game progresses puzzles become extremely clever and coupled with the platforming elements, create a most enjoyable experience. It's never too difficult and my nephew had no problem grasping the game. It had great pick up and play ability so we could play as long or as little as we wanted to. I was also happy to see various unlockables and secret stages appear as we went through the game as well. I highly recommend this to those looking for a unique and well executed platformer for the DS that you and your family can enjoy.
Set on the day of the annual festival held in the Docomodake Forest, the Docomodake family is nowhere to be seen.
You play as Papa Docomodake, and face various obstacles and challenges in order to find your family and get them to the festival on time. With a tap of the stylus you can release 'Minis' that aid you when the going gets a little tough. Minis make the impossible possible!

(Game freezes on the screen)

(Very Fun!)

(Just buy Harvest Moon)

(Fun Game)

(John Deere Fun)
I bought this for my son and the game freezes. I called the manufacturer and they said there is a glitch in the program and to try another. We went through 3 different ones and all of them freeze. Too bad, my son loved the game.
I love this game. My favorite thing about it would have to be growing crops and teending to either cows, chickens, goats, or pigs. In this game you start out as a rookie then work your way up to Farmer...etc. You also go through 4 seasons (Summer, Spring, Winter and Fall) and in each season(except Winter) you can grow different crops according to the season. You also can buy different farm equipment to help you tend to the crops. Overall this is a very fun game.
Its a sad day when a tractor company tries to leech the success of an awesome game like Harvest Moon.

It seems more like a promotional piece than a real game...

If you want to play a game where you farm, go for Harvest Moon, or better yet, Rune Factory (both by Natsume).

Fun game for those not wanting to do all the running around and being social from Harvest moon series. The only thing is you have to manage your time better.
The little guy I brought this for really enjoyed this game. He could do everything his dad does. He told me that he was working just as hard as his dad. He felt he was learning all about farming with this game - so when he got older he could help his dad on the real farm.
I really thought this game was a great learning tool for little ones.

(A new version of a childhood favorite)

(Addictive monster hunting)

(Great little game!)

(What I thought about DQM)
I picked up Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker because I remembered playing the original Dragon Quest Monsters when it came out (I was in middle school at the time) and enjoyed the game.

I have to say, the series is still really fun. I'm about halfway through now and haven't been able to put it down. Since it's a monster battling game, it's tempting to compare it to Pokemon, but they're two entirely different games. DQMJ offers a lot of customization in terms of monsters and skill sets, which is what makes the game so much fun. Gameplay is excellent.

On the downside, the story isn't really that strong and there is a lot of grinding required. Which is good when I have time to kill on the bus, but it tends to make the game drag a bit. In addition, the story isn't very strong and there's no real connection with the main character-or any of the characters.

DQM Joker is an excellent take on monster RPGs. I'm not a big fan of the traditional random encounter battles that so many other games have implemented, so I appreciated the fact that this game let you actually go out and be the hunter.

The story is fine, and the characters are amusing; but the real meat of this game is in the monster synthesizing. It's always exciting to acquire a new monster, experiment, and figure out who you can merge it with to ultimately create a new powerful creature. This element adds a level of owner's pride when it comes to your monsters; and you can spend many hours trying different combinations to strengthen your team. In my opinion, this more than compensates for the moderately short story mode.

I highly reccommend this game to any fan of RPGs or Pokemon-style games, or anyone looking for a fun, addictive addition to their DS library.

This is pretty much the type of dragon quest game I've wanted to play since I could use a healee in dragon quest 4 back in the NES days. Its pretty simple, and a bit too easy, but I won't hold that against it. Very much a grind fest because all you end up wanting to do is create more monsters!

Got it on sale for $12 too, and worth every penny! If your thinking about buying this, do so, you won't regret it.

this is a great little rpg it about med hard I didn't have any troubler till the last monster it was hard for me to beat have to have your lavels up win it a great game.
DQM is a pretty good game for far. You could get frustrated, but I don't know all of the game yet. I just got it. I'm at the first boss. Once you come in, you can't go out. So, to beat the boss, I recommend you get a platapunk for your first monster because it knows body slam. If you get it to level 12 it does 158 damage to the boss but only 45 to you. It's pretty awesome so far. I like it.
Dragon Quest Monsters : Joker is the latest installment in the venerable RPG franchise. Developed exclusively for the Nintendo DS, the player assumes the role of a Monster Scout as he captures, trains and breeds a powerful team from more than 200 classic Dragon Quest creatures in order to become the best in the world! (Good idea, bad idea)

(great game!!!!!)

(Twas ok)

(Pokemon)

(Challenging and a Lot of Fun!)
The thing that enticed me was the cool concept of turning into a Pokemon and didn't have to be a trainer. Even though I really love the Red/Blue/Yellow/Gold/Silver/Diamond/Pearl games, I'm sorry to say that this one was too repetitive and overall boring. You wake up, you go outside to your buddy that says the same hello everyday, you get a help letter in your mailbox, you go to a maze dungeon, you go up the many flights of stairs, you talk to the pokemon, go back to the post office, they give you a prize for saving them, you get your buddy saying "we sure did well today, didn't we?" and go to sleep. It's boring. Anyway, I'll give you a list of why this one doesn't deserve the Pokemon brand name that we've come to love:

-The same sayings from the buddy pokemon, again and again every "day".

-You wake up and go to sleep before and after every mission, it gets tiring. Even if you don't complete any missions and you happen to wander into dungeon, when you come out, you still go to bed.

-Stairs in dungeons are often right there in the same room with you, no challenge to find them or reason to go through the entire maze, you can easily escape to the next level if you want. That may be a good or bad thing.

-When you meet the pokemon you are saving, you have to chase them around the screen and get them up against a wall so that your pokemon and that pokemon don't run circles around each other, just so you can click on them to talk to them. What an awful glitch, it's frustrating.

-When a pokemon joins your team in a dungeon, you have to protect over them otherwise they will get killed. Unlike the other PKMN games, if they die in this game before you reach the end of the dungeon, you lose them forever.

-When in a dungeon and your team-mates are under attack, you can't instantly move over to help them. The game demands that you wait your "turn" to move one space (that counts as an attack). This becomes a problem when you are toting a newly-joined pokemon that is lv1 who is four spaces away from you and is battling a lv15 pokemon. Your new member attacks, the cave pkmn attacks, you move 1 space. They will die by time you get there.

-You get two letters of "How To's" in your mailbox per day. You'd figure this would be cool and you'd learn everything within five days or so. Not so! They send you about 20 letters to tell you even the most basic things, some which after my 30th mission, I STILL don't know how to do. I wish they would've gave you a big lump of them in the beginning, a giant "HOW TO" that would tell you everything, instead of sporadically getting them in the mail every once in awhile. I feel I'm not playing as well as I could be. They become so backlogged too, I'm on my 20th mission and they just sent me one on "how to move your character". O_o

-The "Which Pokemon Are You" quiz was sorta cute, but I found myself often times not becoming a pokemon I liked. I ran through the quiz numerous times and gave any answer, but somehow kept getting Pikachu or Bulbasaur. I wanted to be something a little more exciting.

-So, what about the graphics? Well, the only thing that is 3D is the post office and the clouds. Big deal. The sprites are like the ones in Diamond/Pearl, and the dungeons are as graphically plain as the caves in Gold/Silver (unfortunately the sprites and dungeons are what you see the most of). Diamond/Pearl had more 3D graphics than this game did.

Overall, the dumbed-down and graphic-lacking simplicity of Mystery Dungeon appears like it was built for Game Boy Color. There is also very little of a plot to keep your interest and get you to pick up the game again. This game is a one-trick pony, when you've done one dungeon, you've done them all. If you still are interested in this game, please do yourself a favor and wait until it reaches the dollar bin at a used game store.

I think that every pokemon fan should have this game. In the game, you wake up one day as a pokemon, and another pokemon wants you and him to form a rescue team. together, you go into dungeons and save lost and hurt pokemon. Occasionally, a pokemon will offer to join your team. Its really fun, and you never know what's going to happen next. There are brand new items, that you can not find in other pokemon games. It is a unique game.
It is pretty stupid because you cannot catch pokemon which is one of the biggest things in pokemon. The pokemon dont evolve either and my kids never play the game.
Bought this for my 8 year old, she's bored with it and I got it for her less than a year ago. I guess with all the new Pokemon games lately this one isn't that great!
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon is my favorite Pokemon game set so far (coming from a 26-year-old female gamer who owns at least one copy of nearly every Pokemon video game that has ever been made). It is FAR more of a challenge than the normal games (like Diamond/Pearl). Pokemon moves in these games have more to them than just type, power, and PP. They also have a range, which adds a whole new element to playing the game and building good teams. Damage from attacks also works a bit differently. Ground attacks will not hit flying types (just not for as much damage), so imunities don't mean as much as they do in the normal games. Terrain and weather were improved for these games, as well. There is a wealth of items to use, and they are pretty plentiful in dungeons.

In short, this is a game that will take a while to complete, and finishing the game's initial storyline is only the beginning. You certainly won't finish every task in a week using that super-powerful starter you probably used to beat Diamond/Pearl. This game will require more training, thought, and strategy to complete every task.

I definately recommend getting a guide to use while playing the game, but it's difficult to say which guide is better to buy. Personally, I like the Nintendo Power guide better because it gives information about the items commonly found in each dungeon (while the Prima guide wastes that space stating the blatently obvious about the dungeon's Pokemon), gives more information about the starters, gives MUCH more info about Friend Areas, and it's Pokedex is better written and less redundant. However, Prima's guide is the only one with information about TM compatibility (and a poster in the back, if you care about such things). Neither one gives dungeon Pokemon levels or in-depth dungeon item appearance statistics.

If you are looking for an easy Pokemon game, this is not the best choice for you. If you beat Diamond in a week or less and dream of something that might actually challenge you a bit, give this a try. (If you have a DS, I recommend Blue over Red, as the second screen makes a great place to keep your level map, and there are a few more wireless features in Blue that are not in Red.)

You wake up one day, turned into a Pokemon. This land is being ravaged by a natural disaster so you decide to form a rescue team with a partner Pokemon. As a Pokemon, you can interact with many other different Pokemon on various missions while trying to uncover their true purpose and destiny. An engrossing story of adventure, redemption and, most of all, friendship. Numerous Pokemon can become your friends and can be called upon to join your rescue teams. Converses with other Pokemon for the first time using engaging graphics with various Pokemon expressions, accept various missions and try to help Pokemon in trouble. Go into many dungeons and strategically make your way through many floors. The layout of the dungeons is randomly generated, so they present a different challenge every time. Strategy and thinking are the keys to clearing the dungeons and completing the missions. Many rescue missions to conquer even after the main story reaches its climactic conclusion. The game starts off easy and advances in difficulty as it progresses. It will appeal to novice and expert Pokemon fans alike. For the first time, a Pokemon's moves can be linked and used together in one turn. This feature offers the player a strategic choice of attacks and is an entirely new concept in the Pokemon world.

(Good but not great)

(Best of the (sand) lot)

(Great gameplay, no season mode)
Wish it had a season mode.
Some of the controls a little confusing.
Only has 4 stadiums which is really lame.
Graphics not that hot.

Revised 4-24-2009

After playing all the baseball games on the DS (except for wiffle ball) I have found this to be the best of the lot as a matter of fact one of my fav's of all time.

While the graphics are slightly better then minimal, the gameplay is what really shines here. The gameplay is tough (currently on normal mode), however if you really focus on a game you should be able to win most games, but if you take a mental brake during the game you will get carved up by the ai. You will really need to work every batter

The sound is ok, but the announcer can get on your nerves, so you might want to turn off that feature.

While it is lacking the season mode and stats can only be viewed when a player comes up to bat, I can live with that as I am just happy that the overall experience is excellent.

Closing comment, alot of people have past this one over because of the season mode was not included. I really think you need to look past it and purchase this product to help ensure that the franchise continues and short comings are addressed in future editions, this is the best the DS has out right now for baseball, as a matter of fact this is one of the most enjoyable baseball sims I have played to date, and I go back to the beginning of video games...

The gameplay is really good. You can pick up the controls quickly and catch on to the gameplay quick, too. Every game is fun to play because of how good the gamplay is.

The main problem I had with the game is the lack of a season mode. There is also no create a player mode. The playoff setup isnt bad, but you have to pick all the teams.

(Backyard Baseball '09)

(Good, but)

(Backyard Baseball)

(8 year old's favorite DS game)

(Very good game)
Our kids 10 and 8 have loved playing this game. They have had other computer baseball games but are really enjoying Backyard Baseball. They especially enjoy playing with "real" players. They get a kick out of hitting a homerun with Ortiz...

I don't know how the technical side is as my husband, the "expert" in these kinds of games hasn't had a chance to have a sit down to explore the game, but the kids think it's great!

We bought this because an old PC version of this game (2005) inexplicably stopped working. This game works fine on the Nintendo DS we have (bought and used in Europe)and is good to while away the time in boring situations. It doesn't look any better than the old 2005 game, though, and you can't design your own team's uniforms, which you could do in the PC version. Apart from that, it is recommendable for baseball fans.
My granddaughter is using this product and she really likes it. We are more than satisfied.
My 8 year old loves sports. Our only video games are DS and this is his favorite game.
Great job! Well worth picking up. I purchased for my 8 yr old son and he has not stopped playing it. Great graphics (remember this is a DS not a PS3), sound is better then what one of the review sites suggested, nothing fantastic, but good enough. Well thought out game attributes such as the base overlay.

Being a veteran baseball video game junkie, I gave it a whirl, and found a challenge to be had at the hard level.

I still would like to see a port of the old triple play for the Genesis, or even Baseball Stars would be great too. But for now this is the only baseball game in town and worthy of a purchase.

Knock one out of the park with Backyard Baseball 2009, the latest and greatest version of the #1 kid's baseball video game series. Play hardball with David 'Big Papi' Ortiz and other MLB superstars as kid's A-Rod, Jeter, Ichiro, Griffey, Howard, and many more. Choose your favorite MLB team or create your own. Backyard Baseball 2009 features season&single game options, create-a-player, Home Run Derby mini-game, and unlockables. And now, for the first time on the Nintendo DS, Backyard Baseball includes wireless multi-player and let's you use the touch screen to hit, field, pitch, and run-all with strokes and taps of the stylus. With outrageous game play and awesome power ups mixed in with authentic baseball action, Backyard Baseball 09 is the most fun you can have outside the ball park.
