Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (the truth) 『the actual game was a let down but it arrived fast and in great condition』
(Monster Slam Dunks) 『NBA Jam has been a long running series, dating back to the haydays of the Nintendo system. It is an NBA basketball game with no rules, you can knock other players down, do monster slam dunks! It is very arcade-like and moves at a frantic pace there is nothing real about the gameplay, everything in the game is exaggerated and funny at the same time. This time NBA Jam makes a very cool transition to the XBOX. The graphics are nicely colored and the basketball players although odd and lanky
looking were animated smoothly. It's so much fun to see them make signature slam dunks, but it gets better. When you're player shoots 3 baskets in a row, he will litteraly catch fire and have higher stats making his shots to the basket more accurate. For every cool move you will also earn "Jam Points" and start filling up your "Jam Meter". Once your meter is filled you can activate a "Hot Spot" . and this is the real fun of the game, when you shoot from the hot spot, your player will fly really high into the air, perform a silly move in midair and make a monster slam dunk, which will knock down the other players. It's so cool and funny. The music is good and upbeat, the crowd cheers sound realistic and the commentator is very good, though he will repeat certain things. NBA Jam for the XBOX is the most fun I've had playing an arcadey basketball game. It also features tons of unlockable bonus items, co-op gameplay, create your own player and create your own teams!
Pros: +monster slam dunks +create your own player +create your own teams +tons of unlockables +excellent graphics +excellent animation +excellent sound effects +excellent controls +co-op gameplay +very exciting
Cons: -CPU cheats sometimes -players look a bit goofy』
(Yes, finally!) 『Finally, we got what we wanted. Not Midway, but acclaim. Not nba street volume 2, but NBA JAM! IT features everything, over 200 different dunks, and over 500 different moves and motions.I mean what more could you want. Superstars flying 50 ft. into the air. Its awesome! Its got all the correct rosters, and you whats even better! Their are some realistic moves, like dribbling behind your back and just running. THats pretty realistic, is it not. Everyone complains about how hard the CPU is, their not hard. SUre, if you want a game thats going to take you now more then 2-3 days, this games not the game for you, but if you want a game in reward for your money, its going to take you about 2-3 months. And its not like you cant figure out where to go or anything, and you get all stressed out. If you know the moves and practice them over and over and over and over again in exhibition mode, it'll be a piece of Boomshakalaka in the NBA Jam tournement. One word to sum it all up.
Boomshakalakalakalakalakalakalaka!!!!』
(NBA JAM RULES!) 『If you liked the old version of NBA Jam on snes then I recommend this game. The more you play it the more you will like it. At the same time you gain points and use them to unlock unlimited things. You can even create your own player. I'm a laker fan so I created Magic Johnson. How would you like to have Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Gary and Malone in the same team huh?』
(Not a big fan of this game, missing the old arcade version.) 『I would not reccomend this game to some people only because the computer can be hard, it just gets frustrating when you're in the lead then the computer activates a sweet spot and oh, scores a 3 point dunk to make you lose. The only problem is this isnt' a rare instance, this happens all the time! I'm the same person that would win regularly on NHL 2002 with the diffuculty all the way up, it's okay for you to cheat and find secrets but for the computer to do it, that's not fair to the player, of the 20 or so games I've played on this over the weekend I've lost all of them, I've never lost an NHL game before. This is so much harder than the old NBA jam I used to play, and also, when you grow to appreciate real good sports games from EA sports there really is no need to buy this arcade crap.』 『NBA Jam has the unbelievable moves and monster dunks that turn every game into an NBA highlight reel! Great commentary by Tim Kitzrow』

(karaoke revolution ROCKS!!!!) 『For anyone who has only tried the Singstar karaoke games for PS2, if you really enjoy singing and doing karaoke, you have GOT to try the Karaoke Revolution games... so many more options for playing and much easier to follow the lyrics and try to stay in tune... In my opinion, ALL of the Karaoke Revolution games are a BLAST!!』
(EVERYONE likes it!) 『This is just plain fun! It's one of the few XBox titles that is made for any age, and not complicated to learn and enjoy.
Graphics are good, as are the tunes. If you score high enough, you will unlock new outfits for your performers and advance to new venues with songs increasing in difficulty.
I recommend checking out the tutorial before you try performing, as your performances are rated by the crowd and will determine your advancement through the game. Start on the easiest level until you get your confidence up! Note that if you are using the microphone, you need to have it close to your mouth to register on the game. (*You need either an XBox live headset or XBox microphone (plugs into the standard controller; front side) to play.)』
(Addictive fun for all) 『I have had this game for a while now and I must say it is the best game I have bought for the XBOX. I play it way more than ony other game by far and that's because anytime we have any friends over, we play it. Even those who say the will NEVER sing and play it eventually do and when they sing, they are hooked (even if they can't carry a tune). If you have kids that can read, then they will have a blast with this too. Hours of fun that doesn't get old until you've sang every song 10 times over. Then you go out and buy another volume with all new songs.』
(Simply Fasinating) 『This game is simple yet fun, complicated, socail at the same time. The first time I played this game ws at my friends house, we would play for hours nonstop. It was hilarious seeing everyone trying to sing(I'M THE BEST). But if your not a singer who really cares?!?!?!?! I mean what do we care? Do you think were all professionals? Cuase if we all are the let me tell you something buster, why would they be doing this crap? Sorry I shouldnt say "crap" to such a wonderful game, justkidding. HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA. So far I am at the part where I am battle skeletons. The only thing I find a little frustrating is that you can't do the 360 turn to look around, other wise in that I like it and enjoying it.』
(That's some scary FUN!!!!!!) 『Based on the original hollywood movie, Van Helsing is an action packed game with voices of movie's cast. Instead of putting in cheat codes, you can cheats in the game by destroying secret doors, my favorite is the ghost body feature. As you go through the game, you battle tons of zomibes and monsters. You fight such monsters as Mr. Hyde, Wolfman, and, of course, Dracula. This game isn't for the Monsterpohbic. Rating: 8.2 of 10
Was this review helpful?』
(This game ROCKS!) 『Van Helsing the game is so cool! The movie sucked, but the game is 9,000,000 times better. You fight such classic villians as the Wolfman, Dracula , Mr. Hyde, and more. Only one problem. The camera angles are difficult to work with. You can't chage them. All in All, it's a great game!』
(Wow...) 『...that's my reaction to the Van Helsing game. Many people have criticized it as having a bad camera, not enough acting out of the story (too many cutscenes and such), as well as being repetitive, but they're all nitpicking. The first time I saw this game I was really looking forward to it. Well, I rented it and after a day or two, I hated it. I'd been playing games like Hitman, which require more strategy and "brain power", so I thought this was stupid, mindless game. However, I didn't realize one thing. This is NOT a "shooter", though most of the weapons are guns. This is an ACTION game, entailing tons of exciting movement, such as jumping and fighting while watching the really cool villains do likewise. In short, you have to be in the right mood to play this, or not expect too much. You may be dissapointed if you think this is another Red Dead Revolver or something. I bought it and had a blast because I knew what kind of game I was playing. The gameplay has been called repetitive, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's really fun to just lay into your opponents', though some of the weapon' shooting (dual pistols) can become tiresome, despite its propensity for success. You basically have to use your tojos and/or twin scimitars to liven it up with some variety (I recommend tojos against most non-flying creatures and bosses, as it's really fun to tear through your adversaries). There are a fair amount of other weapons, such as the crossbow, shotgun, electric gun, and a few other great weapons I don't want to spoil for you, which all have strength and weaknesses of their own, making each of them a value and a hindrace (realism, folks) to getting through the game. The jumping/grappling onto things is a good bit of variety in the game, and when you have to use them, it adds a bit of reality (if you consider some of Van Helsing's jump "realistic") and makes sense with the mission. Last of all, there's a load of great monsters, such as possessed skeletons, giant owls, gargoyles, the main bosses you saw in the movie (including bonus fights with Frankenstein's Monster), and well, the list covers just about every major mythological/horror creature, way past the dinky litte list in the manual that comes with the game. It's great, trust me.
And now, some Game Tips:
Try beating the five challenges in "order" (that they presented in the game) and twice in order if need be (whatever works; I played the game 15 or so times through before I beat all the challenges so I'm not completely sure what unlocks the Rifle, though I suspect it's just order), starting with Challenge #4 (the maze is the easiest challenge and can be done the first time through the game), next Challenge #5 (time attack, should be attempted the second or third time through the game so that you have the gatling gun), then Challenge #1 (break the statues is easily the hardest, but can be done the first time through the game. You need to break the statues up high before breaking the ones on ground level; jump up and down to enrage the gargoyles, and if they don't come, immediately grapple the gargoyles and pull them into close quarters; you may want to try this when you have a lot of glyphs and the Armory Anytime cheat found in the second through the game so that you can keep buying Life Replenishers), then Challenge #2 (stay on the ring and don't let the owls knock you off; probably the second hardest and you probably want to wait till the third time through the game, having beaten the hard difficulty, so that you have the Unlimited Alternate Ammo cheat to use), and finally Challenge #3 (rising blood challenge; go to the right of the screen and jump onto the gargoyle head and follow the logical progression of heads until you get to about the six or seventh, where'll you be safe to grapple away and beat the challenge). If you need any other game tips, like where to find all the Life Increasers or whatever, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend buying Prima Games' Official Strategy Guide to Van Helsing. This is an AWESOME tip book and helped me get almost everything on the game (I'm still missing some Increasers, though). It comes cheap, and will become your best friend when playing Van Helsing. Now onto the graphics. The graphics are superb, though many criticize them for being simple for a such a graphically capable system such as the X-Box. The backgrounds are very well-lit, and the environments you're in are very time appropiate and detailed, rivaling and maybe even surpassing the movie's scope. While Anna looks a little piggish with her slightly upturned nose, the bosses are impressive (I really like Mr. Hyde), and the more common creatures are uniquely good. Some other things, such as the sound and voice-acting are worth going over. The music is good, though sometimes backgroundish, and not entirely noticeable unless you listen for it. Not to say its bad, but seems rather distant sometimes. The voice acting is well-done, at least for the time the actors had to do them (they were on a tight schedule). Some of the Transylvanian accents, such as Anna's (sorry, Mandy), sound a bit stilted at times, but at worst it provides a chuckle. Sure, I've sung the game's praises, but here are some admonitions, primarily for parents. Other than a minimal amount of blood spilled (not much but the dwergi and vampire bats "spew" it sometimes), Dracula's brides appear in a cutscene where they aren't, well, entirely clothed. However, this cutscene can be skipped by pressing "Start", so it's probably not much of a problem. The same thing goes for the green banshee women who remind me of mermaids; they hold green pieces of cloth against their chests, concealing, well, MOST of their bosoms, but not all. Nothing detailed here, but not very appropriate. As a warning for gamers, don't expect to be able to play as a werewolf at the end of the game (probably the biggest letdown of the century), which would have skyrocketed this game right past probably my favorite, Red Dead Revolver. In my opinion, the game's greatest downfall, which put in some good stuff not included in the movie (Frankenstein fights, the exclusive game creatures and more weapons) but left out one of the movie's strongest points (the Van Hesling werewolf) in gameplay, which would have been so much fun (just use the Wolf Man's moves or something). Van Helsing does change into a werewolf in the cutscene but it's not the same. A good idea, in my humble opinion, would have been to have Van Helsing in human form fight Dracula in human form with his weapons, then have a cutscene where Dracula basically says the kid gloves are off and they both transform, then the gamer could fight with the Van Helsing werewolf against the Demon Dracula (that way the gamers AND the producers could have what they want). Overall, the game was quite enjoyable, and had the potential to be even better. I would recommend at least a rental of this game, because its one of kind (or maybe it's that just because I haven't played Devil May Cry). Remember, you most likely have to be in the right mood and like this genre before you can appreciate and have fun playing Van Helsing. That's my two cents. 』
(At last, a decent movie tie in!!!!) 『After seeing the AWESOME film Van Helsing, I was more than desperate to get my hands on the game based on the film for my xbox. I must admit that I was very worried, as I have played many movie-based videogames, few with satisfying results (the last movie-based game I had played was Terminator 3 - Rise of the machines! You can see why I was worried!!!).However, my worries amounted to nothing. Van Helsing is a solid game on its own, but it is more fun to be taking up the role of Van Helsing. All his awesome weapons are there, and some new ones! The fact that you can lose your hat in a fight is a nice touch, and the original voices of Igor, Dracula and Van Helsing himself add much class. Visually, Van Helsing is nothing new. Its no Ninja Gaiden, but it does have some truly gothic locations, excellent weapon designs, and Van Helsing himself looks the part. I was a little disappointed in terms of sound (for me, this was the games weakest area). Sure, the voices are cool, but bar that, it was a let down. The film had some truly fantastic themes, while the game's score was very dry and basic (I rarely paid attention to it). There were some nice sound effects, but small things like Mr Hyde lacking his hilarious accent, and the Tojo blades making no buzzing noise were disappointing. Gameplay wise, the controls are quite nice, with a good balance between guns and melee weapons. The grapple rope proved very useful and easily accessable. No faults in this area. Overall, Van Helsing makes for a rather satisfying (if short)play. Its no Ninja Gaiden or Prince of Persia, but is one of the better movie tie-in games out there. For fans of the film, I'd advise it. For fans of the action-adventure genre, its worth a look at』 『Case: Stainless Steel Case, Attachment: Stainless Steel Bracelet Rated: 50 meters(165 Feet) Water Resistant Crystal: Scratch-Resistant Mineral Crystal Movement: Swiss Quartz Movement』

(This game is not as fun as the originals but it is cheap) 『The Crazy Taxi series was loads of fun on the Dreamcast. Sega in making Crazy Taxi 3 for the XBOX did not make a quality attempt to upgrade the graphics to push the XBOX hardware. The game is plagued by annoying music which I think can be turned off. I hope it cab be turned off as it totally ruins the driving experience. What's good about the game is not only has the price dropped down to where you are more likely to buy a game that is a 6 out of 10, it gives you the ability to basically play Crazy Taxi 1, 2, and 3 with the new game engine so you can perform the crazy hop, crazy drift, and whatever other gimmicks this current game offers in the older versions. I don't want to ramble on forever so just know that the game has a problem with jaggies and popups and the music is annoying, but the game is somewhat fun and I am not sorry I bought it, but I imagine for most people this game's box with collect dust.』

1.Graphics: Really great, they are cartoony graphics sometimes but are really the best.
2.Sound: The sound effects are really cool, and the music, I LOVE, if u like punk bands like offspring and bad religion you'll like this, both bands are in the game plus some band called citizen bird...????.
3.Controls: The controls are the same as the last 2 games, i'd recommend the controller s or the racing wheel for this.
4.Gameplay:I love playing this game.IT has 1 level from each of the 1st games and same characters, I Played this game for hours.
Overall:Crazy Taxi 3 is crazy, i'd recommend buying it, if u never played crazy taxi,(any of them), then i'd recommend u rent it before purchasing. That's All.............Have fun Playing』
(A Must Buy Game) 『When I first played this game it was on a demo ... I had never played any previous versions so I didn't know what it was about. It only had one level (being a demo and all). But for only having one level, it was awesome. I knew that I had to get that game. So I bought it and played it all the time.
It's easy to play:
1. Pick a level 2. Pick a driver. 3. Right trigger go, left trigger stop, Y button hop, B button shift up, A button shift down. Simple, basic, and most of all FUN. Overall, A MUST BUY GAME.』
(A ton of potential, but not a lot of energy) 『Crazy Taxi 3 might have seemed like an awesome, whatever-you-want driving game if only GTA3 and GTA: Vice City had not come along. Against Vice City, Crazy Taxi 3 seems like a small mini-game.
Crazy Taxi 3 does have nice graphics, as you drive through 3 cities that approximate San Francisco, Las Vegas and New York City. Each city has its own personality, and you get to choose from a handful of taxis (and drivers) for each city.
In essence you grab a fare and have to take the fare to their destination. You rack up cash for doing so and the more fares in a row you can do, the better. There are also an assortment of minigames like 'jump through the flaming hoops' and 'pop the balloons'.
It this had come out say 3 years ago, the driving-whereever-you-want would have been amazing. The fact that you could just cruise the streets, plowing over sidewalks, taking shortcuts and looking at the nice graphics would have been great. Unfortunately for CT3, something else came along - Grand Theft Auto. Grand Theft Auto HAS taxi missions, with the same earnings and time limits. But in GTA, that is but one tiny part of a huge gameplay system. And when you don't feel like doing timed missions, you have the luxury of driving anywhere you want, in any car you want, and exploring the world you have.
You can say that GTA3/GTAVC is for the PS2 and Crazy Taxi 3 is for the XBox. But what does that mean? That because they were programming for the XBox, Crazy Taxi 3's developers could only put out 1/20th of the game? At least if they were going to solely concentrate on taxi-like things, they could have put in more cities, or more taxis, or more missions, or something. But the game comes across as an arcade port (which it was) that didn't have a lot of energy behind it (unfortunately). What they put out as a 'complete game' is something the Grand Theft guys kicked out as a fun little side toy. I am a HUGE HUGE fan of arcade games, and also a HUGE fan of driving games, so I really had high hopes for this. But unfortunately the game turned mindlessly repetitive too quickly.
I'm disappointed that the PS2 has the Vice City/GTA3 shining as their 'driving in a city' showoff and that the XBox can only hold this up as a comparison. It's time for the XBox developers to take the brilliance behind Halo and show us that they CAN have a Vice City like incredible experience on their platform.
Summary: Fun for a short while, but not something that grabs you for weeks or months.』

In the beginning I was loving the game, great missions and I could literally play it for hours, but then the nightmare started. There is a mission that you have to complete called "Shadow Tong" where you have to push a character off a crate, I found out at least in my case that it is just impossible. After hours and hours of trying to do it and reading walkthroughs that could help me figure out what I was doing wrong, I realized that it wasn't even my fault!!!!!!! It is a glitch that apparently comes only for the XBOX version and tons of people were having the same problem. The result was my total and utter dissapointment, after all, what is the point of starting a game you cannot finish????!!!! I felt ripped off and extremely upset and I decided to warn everybody about this because it is unacceptable. Since then the game is stored in my closet getting dusty, reminding me the HUGE MISTAKE I did throwing my good earned money in the garbage. There are hundreds of great games you could buy, think of the choices and spare yourself the misery of getting this one. So please just research a little bit so you know what I'm talking about and if you do decide to ignore what I have stated here, well don't say I didn't warn you.
P.S. The game freezes ALL the time as well so be prepared for that too if you buy it.』
(New York C-C-C-C-C-C-beeeeeeeeeep-CRASH!) 『I'll start by saying that True Crime NYC is the first console game that I can remember since the Sega Master System days that actually crashed my console. New game disc, 2005 model Xbox with no read errors or other problems; this is simply a horribly broken piece of software.
What is so sad about TCNYC is the clear attempt to make a great game. The programmers were trying to do something big here, what with the interesting storyline, the depth of the fighting engine, detailed building interiors, on and on. But they failed spectacularly at almost every attempt.
To the first major failure: an apparent lack of understanding of how to program software within the limitations of the hardware. The game simply tries to render far too much during driving for even the reasonably powerful Xbox. Framerates sieze up every block or two, and this led to my first complete system crash within ten minutes of play. Disturbing. I can only imagine how unplayable this is on the less powerful PS2. The driving control scheme relies on "special move" buttons to perform stunts; a pretty good indicator that the programmers had no idea how to build a working car physics engine. The awful control scheme doesnt even include analogue gas/brake functions, which would have been perfectly fine on the trigger buttons (GTA 2 did this with the DREAMCAST controller almost ten years ago). Rolling through NYC in a jet-black unmarked 4.6 Crown Vic Interceptor should feel cool, but it just feels crummy.
The on foot engine is acutally an improvement over GTA's, at least until running or fighting. While the fight sequences could have been a saving grace, the ridiculously complicated Street Fighter-style button combos make it miserable. Each special move button results in a pre-rendered animation sequence that feels clumsy and is just as likely to leave your face in the fist of your enemy as have the desired consequence. A simplified scheme with fewer "special" moves and improved response time could have made this the nicest fighting engine in any open-world game to date. But it isn't.
The city itelf, while detailed and often well-lit at night, just doesn't have the character of Liberty City. Perhaps due to the lack of any verticality in the landscape (no bridges, hills, or even peaks and valleys in roadways), the city feels dull and lifeless after a few hours of driving. And strange glitches in environment lighting (car lights flicker on and off) and collision detection evaporate any sense of realism. Not to mention awful behavior programming for pedestrians which turns every NYC resident into a Tourette's victim.
The story is initially interesting, although the foul language used as "dialogue" crosses the line from shocking to just plain bad writing. Unfortunately a horrific glitch in the volume balance means you wont hear 90% of the game's cutscenes. There must have been some evil, angry, vindictive person in charge of testing this game. You just can't screw up this bad accidentally.
The one element that really stood out as a positive was the use of NYC's precincts as controllable strategic elements of the overall map. By apprehending criminals (who commit a wide variety of rather creative crimes) in a precinct, you can gradually clean it up and gain respect and rank within your squad. While it's not much more than a nonessential side mission, I found it gave me a sense of control and accomplishment that the paint-by-numbers story mode lacked.
Unfortunately, a few unique concepts arent enough to save TCNYC from its abominable technical problems. Because the developers tried to do so much and occasionally succeeded, I can't say it's a completely bad game...but due to all the glitches it's certainly a failure.』
(Not That Bad) 『People are really ripping into this game, but I actually really like it. There are definitely some glitches but that tends to happen in a huge open world game like this one. Even GTA is not completely glitch-free. It does feel like they released the game too soon, without proper testing, but it is still fun. The learning curve is a little steeper than with GTA but once you get it figured out, there is an enjoyable game here. It's kinda cool to play the good guy for a change, but you can always go rogue if you want...anyway if you like GTA and you have some patience to learn the control scheme, this is a good game at a bargain price. You can definitely spend many hours wandering around New York busting perps; crimes happen all around you in real time - not like GTA where you have to go 'get a mission' in order to make anything interesting happen. For this reason alone, the game world feels more alive and exciting. I say buy it.』
(Great Game) 『I enjoyed the game and thus give it a perfect score because it kept me going for months even though i beat the game 6 times. I enjoyed the game a lot despite all the bugs and glitches. It's created with the real look and feel of new york city. Despite all the praise though the game really did frustrate me with all the bugs and things. Like on the Shadow Tong case it took me forever to knock Tommy off the crate thing. But overall loved it! I hope the come ou with a third TC.』
(Unacceptable GTA Clone) 『True Crime New York City is the sequel to True Crime L.A. Though you are now playing as a former gang member named, Marcus instead of Kang. Marcus was framed and betrayed by his own gang boss, so from the beginning of the game you will start blasting away in a bitter state of revenge. Marcus then makes a new lead in life by becoming a cop with the help of his father's friend. Five years later, Marcus is being offered the undercover detective position and sets out to fight crime in the city of New York. First let me comment, on the good points of the game: The shooting, driving and martial arts system in the gameplay have been improved over its predecessor. In the shooting aspect, you can now lock on to targets and blast away. The weaponry has improved and are more fierce, feeling a bit like Max Payne. You can also do presiscion shots again but it feels better. The driving vehicles also improved, feeling tighter and you can even drift on corners.
The good points however, are dragged down by sloppy programming that left the game unfinished and full of strange glitches, which are not acceptable! My in-game mini radar showed a bad guy as a red dot and I went searching endless for the bad guy and could never find it even though I was right on the dot. Then I made my game character look up and the bad guy was FLOATING in mid-air! The in-game police characters often chased after ghost criminals yelling "stop right there" and then took off running! Sometimes when I crashed my cars with other vehicles, their body would sink half-way into the ground! The sound effects and character speeches would cut off abruptly, especially on the streets with pedestrians. Shooting bad guys in the head is not always a kill, but I shot someone in the leg three times and they died! The graphics are cheap and the frame-rate is full of lag! I don't care how wonderful a game concept is. If the gameplay is so buggy as to hinder its enjoyment, then it is junk! Game developers should not release buggy games like this and sell them to the public as a finished product, this simply is unacceptable! Skip this and save your money; you've been warned.
Pros: +minor improvements +arresting people is fun
Cons: -cheap looking graphics -floating bugs -collision detection problems -sound issues -terrible frame-rate -control issues -improvements ruined by glitches 』 『True Crime: New York City is the most authentic depiction of New York in a Video game. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A fresh look at a tired genre) 『Ubisoft made a smart choice in taking "Brothers in Arms" in a slightly different direction from the "Call of Duty" and "Medal of Honor" series. Rather than trying to one-up those games, which had nearly perfected the WWII FPS and exhausted the storylines, BiA drops the player into the role of a paratrooper in charge of various platoons of allies. Rather than focusing on unlikely individual heroics, BiA places prime importance on field vision and management of people and resources.
It is not however a slow paced isometric strategy game. Protagonist Matt Baker engages the enemy in first-person perspective, while issuing basic commands to his company. The control scheme is surprisingly simple, yet allows for a nifty combination of commands. So a player can go Rambo for a time if he desires, or drop into the background and play field general. Both options are surprisingly satisfying. There are occasional pathing and AI failures, where apparently logical commands lead your men into MG gunfire. But more often the game's intelligence pleasantly surprised rather than disappointed me.
The major strategic concept used (ad nauseum) is the simple "flank" maneuver. Baker is usually given two platoons, one of which is ideal for supressing fire, the other for end-arounds. Although due to some constrictive level designs, this tactic sometimes fails. AT times the squad is forced through narrow corridors, resulting in inevitable heavy casualties regardless of strategy. The environments lean more towards Call of Duty than Medal of Honor in terms of openness, but I still often wished for more creative avenues to accomplish my mission. I thoroughly enjoyed the missions where I was given charge of Sherman or Grant tanks. There are some occasional pathing problems with the tanks, and a few inexplicable stuck points, but it was great fun watching my armor come in from the side and blow an MG42 nest sky high.
I was impressed with the game's visuals. Capable of 480p widescreen, BiA renders an amazing amount of lush vegetation which, when combined with earth berms, offers usable cover. I was pretty amazed at the fairly steady framerates rendered on the old Xbox, considering all the greenery and intense action. Player, weapon, and tank models are rendered realistically. Even the occasional water effects, which players can tread chest high, look sharp. Building details are a bit dull, but the game rarely vetures into interiors anyway.
The one area the game fails in is sound quality. Oddly for a game by a big-name publisher, BiA clearly didn't put the resources into good sound recording. Player voices are OK: the typical WWII grunt stereotypes are all well represented (grizzled CO, nervous smart guy, overconfident jerk guy, etc.). Every other bang, pop, or boom is weak and tinny though. Every firearm sounds like a capgun, explosions sound like the TNT is wrapped in pillows, and the tank engines barely gurgle. It sounds like a piddling complaint, but I couldn't get over the unrealistic combat sounds in a game that otherwise built a nearly tangible world of war.
As a word of warning, BiA is more graphic, both visually and audibly, than the MoH or CoD series. So don't be surprised by the f-word and gore. To me, it was well worth the few idiosyncracies to enjoy a new, strategic perspective on WWII shooter gameplay.』
(Road to Hill 30, just like real war) 『This game is not an FPS like Call of Duty, where you take that MG-42 all by yourself so the 50 other soldiers can pass. This game requires planning and strategy, and you must be smart. About 2-4 hits from an MG-42 and your reloading the checkpoint, what you have to do though, is find cover, set up your firing squad, and flank the enemy, taking out a few Nazi's on your way. This is not a short 8 hour game, this game could take up a several entire days to finish, where you play as "Sergeant Matt Baker" a soldier in the 101st Airborne first jumping from a plane and having to meet up with your squad, taking out AA guns on while your at it. I won't tell you how it ends, but it's got a lot of battles in it and very accurate to the real battles of Normandy. It's got a lot of cursing and graphic violence, displayed in quality sound and detailed graphics. The soldiers act like the men in the TV miniseries "Band of Brothers." So, yes your friends do get blown up sometimes. You do NOT get to ride vehicles of any sort, however you do occasionally get on machine guns, which are very effective, powerful and fast. You also get to sit on tanks and use their planted machine guns. You get to use tons of weapons and each have are detailed and realistic. I think that most of the characters are made up, however it does show Colonel Cole, (a real paratrooper on D-Day who led a famous charge called "Cole's Charge, and yes you get to play in it). You also lead your own squad, usually consisting of a firing squad, and an assault squad for most of the game, a few times you do get to command a tank. I liked how for each level on the loading bar it kind of has a little picture timeline of what happens during that level, or in the one before it, and after it loads, it has a little narrative showing the level and has Sergeant Baker saying some things he has on his mind. After completely each level you unlock a little bit of info, which maybe about D-Day, the makers of the game, etc. Once you beat the game for the first time on a selected difficulty, you unlock a cheat code, and when you complete the game on another difficulty, you get another one. So once you have completely all the modes, you would have completely unlocked the game. The multiplayer however, is pretty boring, you just control a couple of guys who look the same, and you have to bring a piece of paper back to base, and ha, you win. This game is definatly worth picking up for about [...]-[...]$, used or new at your local game store. Graphics - 8 Sound - 7 Gameplay - 8, not the "fun" type, the strategy type Realism - 10 History - 9, however it uses mostly fictional characters』
(Tired of all the hype and BS.) 『You know, I am sick of all the hype about this game by a bunch of weenies that don't seem to know real combat, real weapons or realism of any sort beyond what they see on their TV screens.
This game is not the authentic real life war on-the-battlefield war game that all the geeks are hyping and signing the party line the company puts out.
I bought two of these games after reading the reviews and I have to say that you people don't know what you are talking about.
There is pseudo-realism and that is about it. Sure the maps are close, the look and sounds of the weapons are close and even the dialog is about right, but that is about as far as it goes.
These games fall down severely on the accuracy/authenticity in several key areas.
1.Ludicrous restriction on the tactical options available to the soldiers and the squad leaders. Some of this is bad level design, some of it is probably trying to make up for the limitations of their AI, and some of it is just plain dumb.
2. Ridiculous limitations on interaction with the environments. You cannot open doors or windows. You cannot climb fences. You cannot use the wire cutters that every paratroop carried. You cannot go under a normal barbed wire fence, which thousands of hunters do several times a day in america.
Barrels and crates don't blow up or even move when hit by a tank. You can't even climb over a low wall that some other men just went over.
Perhaps most unforgivable of all, you cannot go into a prone position or crawl. You know, the stuff they teach everyone in BASIC TRAINING!
3. The gunsights are ludicrous. The amount of creep even in a crouching position is ridiculous. If I was that shakey I'd head for the retirement home.
4. Terrible path blocking and object collision detection. Quite a few times when I had a perfect view of a target and as perfect a sight picture as you would ever want I could not hit the target no matter how many rounds I fired. In real life I would have put a round through both ears of my target.
5. Absurd size of the weapons relative to your field of vision when zoomed in. Come on folks this is ridiculously UN-authentic. There is a reason for the open sights on fast action weapons like the Thompson and other SMG weapons.
6. Really stupid scenario designs. There are several instances where you are put face to face with tanks and no tactical options except to run for enemy panzerfausts. Making this worse of course are the level designs that force you to follow a relatively linear and restricted path to said anti-tank weapons. This is completely ridiculous.
7. Poor level designs. Too many places you cannot go or step when you should be able to. Places you cannot jump over or crawl under where you should. Only in EIB do you get to even blow holes in the hedges with the TNT that all paratroops carried as part of their standard pack during that theater of operations, and then only in key places and one whole scenario.
8. Situational awareness mode. Give me a break. This is supposed to substitute for the advance study done by the troops? It's not even as good as a raw topo map dump. You are chained to camera angles around key points and there are no indications of any significant type for changes in elevation and quite often the terrain features are faded out due to the choices made for the camera angle.
9. Another limiting factor is that you cannot issue movement commands to a location you know is there but are not lined up on directly yourself and you had better be on the side away from the enemy when you issue the order. This could have been easily fixed by using some option to issue commands while in situational mode, especially if that were better done.
10. Lastly the much hyped authentic tactics. Authentic, sure, in a very introductory and watered down way, severely limited in permutations, applications and variations due to all the other limitations of the game.
By the way, I am both a veteran and an experienced programmer and I am highly disappointed with this game on both counts.
If this is the latest in realism then it shows what a sorry state the gaming industry really is in. Of course I still haven't seen AI in a commercial game yet that matched up to what I saw undergrad programmers doing in college during the 80s. We deserve better and it's not that hard to do. It's time we stopped allowing these companies to hype this stuff up like it is so great when it's all fluff like pretty pictures and sound.
Oh, one PS. The AI cheats. You can observe how the enemy becomes magically aware of things completely out of the blue, such as someone being behind them, not moving or firing, and behind cover. This is inexcusable.』
(Realistic, occasionally frustrating rendition of squad-based WWII combat.) 『With Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, developer Gearbox has created a strategy-oriented first-person shooter that tests more than your hand-eye coordination. To succeed at the game, you will have to become proficient with some basic squad commands and learn to "suppress and flank" in the midst of a firefight.
Add to this decreased, more realistic shot accuracy from your weapons (the targeting reticle is turned off by default, and doesn't help much anyway - to be accurate, you'll have to switch to the zoom view down the barrel of your rifle, which limits your movement and peripheral vision) and you have something significantly different from other WWII shooters like Call of Duty where you're a one-man army. The emphasis is on group tactics - holding the enemy down with suppressive fire, then hitting them from their exposed sides with flanking. Running and gunning will get you only so far in the game (although it is sometimes necessary).
This can be loads of fun, but will sometimes cause you to scratch your head when you're faced with more than one group of enemies in complex terrain. To help with this, there is an in-game feature that allows you to take a bird's eye view of the battlefield, and highlights yours and your enemy's positions. It's not bad, although I wished you could freely move around the map while in this mode; they only let you switch from the positions you and your enemies have taken on the map, and rotate the camera around those positions. In addition, your men will behave pretty intelligently most of the time, taking cover if they're fired upon, or telling you that they can't carry out the command you've given them.
Besides the gameplay, there is the story and immersion in the game world. Gearbox succeeds here, showing through in-game character dialogue and narrative by the main character in between missions, the life of a soldier during this time. I felt attachment to the characters I fought alongside with during the game, and also the camaraderie the real soldiers they're based on must have felt.
In addition to the core game, there is quite a bit of extra content you can unlock just by completing the levels on a given difficulty setting. Plus figuring out how to really dominate the battlefield is another incentive to replay the game.
It was with a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction that I finished the last mission for this game.』
(This game keeps you drawn in) 『Great game. The research gone into this game to get as authentic as possible was extensive. It starts to feel like you're really on a WWII battlefield when you're hunched behind a barricade ducking shots from the Germans. I played the first Medal of Honor when it first came out, and I remember that was really the first WWII-based first person shooter and it got a lot of respect. I thought it was OKAY, but Brothers In Arms is much more authentic and just a better game. This is a WWII first person shooter, but unlike Medal of Honor, this has some squad-based influences from games like Ghost Recon, SOCOM: Navy Seals, and Counter Strike. What I liked most about this game is how you can issue commands to your squads, to use suppressing fire, to charge, to go behind cover or to move to certain positions. And the game puts a lot of emphasis on flanking enemies -- simply suppress them with one squad, and flank with the other and hit the enemy from the sides or from behind. This is just a great game. I gave it 4 stars because the graphics are good, but not spectacular. The dialogue amongst the troops and the main character's narration between levels are also great. If you're a fan of WWII first person shooters, then this is a must-have.
Graphics - 8/10 Controls - 9/10 Sound - 9/10 Overall - 9/10』 『Brothers in Arms is the only first-person tactical shooter set in WWII. It takes you into the uncensored realitt of military history. You become Sgt. Matt Baker, a squad leader committed to completing his mission and bringing his men home alive. Guide his squad of 101st Airborne Paratroopers as you're immersed in the historic 8-day Normandy invasion; As you play, you'll face difficult choices where you'll weigh the good of the mission against the lives your fellow soldiers - your Brothers In Arms.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Beware of brokenness) 『I don't know how all these satisfied reviewers didn't notice the glaring technical glitches in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood on the Xbox. The game has so many problems that I've given up on it and will try and complete the game on PC.
I should start by saying that I loved Road to Hill 30. I found it to be a very competent game that ran surprisingly well on the old Xbox. But in this sequel Gearbox ratcheted up the difficulty and exposed many flaws in the gameplay balance. They also botched the programming for the system, resulting in horribly lagging sound and video that corrupts the gameplay.
Specifically, certain enemy weapons like MG nests and the German anti-tank artillery have been given improved range and accuracy. But the range and intelligence of the player's comrades has not improved. This results in a lot more foolish deaths due to AI mistakes than in the first game. And friendly armor is now totally worthless. Your tank commander cannot locate enemy gun emplacements before the enemy artillery zeroes in and begins firing. And sometimes your guy will announce that he's commencing firing while just sitting there and taking it. Cover doesn't work as well either, now that more Germans are armed with panzerschreks. Combine this with the restrictive pathing that too often doesn't allow flanking, and you end up running head first into enemy fire just trying to get lucky and finish the mission.
On the technical side, there are terrible problems with this game that I found insurmountable. Even with all the graphic options turned down, it's unplayable on many of the busier missions. The sound and video lag results in many deaths before you can even see the enemy. And sadly it seems to get worse the further you progress in the story. It hurts my ego to admit, but I just couldn't finish the game. Don't trust my words, read the EiB bug forum on Ubisoft's site. People with all years of Xboxes have problems with this game.
In conclusion, Earned in Blood may have been great on the right platform (PC I hope), but on Xbox it's just a hassle.』
(Not much of an improvement over the Road to Hill 30) 『Earned in Blood, not Brothers in Arms 2, just Road to Hill 30 and beyond... as Sergeant/Corporal Joe 'Red' Hartsock. Well, everything such as graphics, sound, and gameplay is pretty much the SAME. I didn't notice much difference in those fields. A few new weapons have been added, the M3 Grease gun, and the FG42, WOW BIG DEAL. The FG42 is fun to use, the M3 is boring, except you only use them in a few levels of the campaign. Some of the old characters come back, while your squad is a bunch of guys you didnt meet in RTH-30. New abilities like magically recieving ammo from your squad, and talking to them by pressing 'X' have been added. You guys act like the guys in Hill 30, swearing, arguing, and just talking. Instead of the 'briefing' of every level being a sort of narration by the main character, its become aa SLA Marshall interviewing Hartsock, not as interesting, but a bit more informative than Bakers telling. The game is just as hard as Road to Hill 30, unless you found it easy, but its not as long, its got more scenes where your just watching. And instead of creating bakersdozen as your profile name to recieve cheats, you should enter '2ndsquad' instead, same cheats. There are a few new vehicles in Earned in Blood, and there is some more variety given theres Urban combat, a wasteland of rumble where you experience 'closer combat' and get to take out some tanks on the way. More fun times to kill Panzer tanks! And sometimes they give you a stash of panzerfausts to take out several PANZER TANKS. A new mode, 'Skirmish' has been added, its just 5 levels of different objectives to choose from, I found it similar to multiplayer, except longer, you can also co-op in Skirmish. Everything feels the same, just some new goodies added, and this time... the cover is a helmet! It definatly earns the M rating because it has all the blood, violence, and curse words from Hill 30... unless you dont care.』
(Best WWII game out there!) 『I love shooter games mostly WWII games.... i also play paintball which is the closest thing to war you can get and this game is the closest thing to real life plus its an awsome story line because it says its a true WWII story』

This game has a mode that lets you pick 1 of 5 maps, choose your difficulty level and whether you want to be the good or bad guys. You each command a 3-man team.
