(Play with BTA Markers and Variable Weather)

(Far from perfect, the amount of flaws is off putting.)

(Unic Formula 1 racing game)

(Great Game Not so great shipping)

(Just for F1 Fans)
I've been playing this game constantly for the past 3 months and I love it! Be sure to play with BTA Markers and Variable Weather on for maximum enjoyability. I play full championship seasons and I noticed that each driver and car are different, which is wonderful. Not only does it sound different, some drive faster than others. I created a spreadsheet tracking my results after every race. It's a wonderful game, even with dual shock controllers. Gorgeous graphics on my 42" plasma 720 HDTV!
First of all, the game simulation is exactly like GT's which makes it fantastic. However, regardless of the TV you're using, some times during playing and in certain turns you find your self completely blinded by the stupid sun positioning in this game on most race tracks.
Another con is the no-hand-break option, what that means is that you can't have total control over the F1. A third con that is a real big deal and a real off putter is the no gear number warning before each turn, what that means is, you're going 200 mbh and before the hard turn you get obsolutely no clues how fast or slow must you be for perfectly taking the turn.
This game could've been phenomenal, especially for us "car racing simulators fans".

It's really fun to play on the career mode, but the bad is that its from 2006 Champ.
I am a big fan of Formula 1 so there was no disappointment with the game whatsoever. However I am disappointed with the shipping of the product. I paid priority shipping to get the game sooner, but when I received It I noticed that price on the postage was standard. I will never order from Gameria again..
yeah, as the tittle of my review says, it is just for fans... this game is alot of fun, the sound of the machines drives me crazy I LOVE 'EM... but sometimes "realism" in videogames goes to far... this game is like playing an actual F1 car, touch a single part out of the map and it fall apart to pieces (what really happens in real life) a game is supposed to be fun not stressing... anyway you can turn off the damage feature whenever you feel like it... overall I dont regret buying it and i bet you wont ^.^
As the only official interactive game of the FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPTM, this is the chance for gamers to rewrite the 2006 season with all the official drivers, teams, cars, circuits and racing rules. Enhanced driving aids allow FORMULA ONE newcomers to enjoy the exhilaration and thrill of the sport while online play will demonstrate whom the real world champion is with a full 22-car grid. Adding to the fun, PLAYSTATION 3s SIXAXIS Wireless Controller will enable gamers to discover a new way of racing with its motion sensing technology.Loaded with High Definition visuals, full surround sound audio, extensive circuit details and lighting effects, progressive car damage and changing weather conditions, FORMULA ONE CHAMPIONSHIP EDITION is the only way to fully interact with the sport. Gamers will experience the real pressure of a GRAND PRIX race thanks to interactive pit stops, formations laps, unexpected collisions and race incidents. FORMULA ONE has evolved, welcome to the next level in racing.

(One of the best f1 games for ps2)

(Awesome F1 racing game)

(Awesome F1 Game)

(5 Stars? Maybe)

(Formula 1)
As an avid f1 fan I can tell you that this is one of the best f1 games to come to the US. I will give you a brief description of what this game contains. First of all the game contains all the drivers from the 2002 f1 season, as well as all the tracks. Except for Hockenheim which changed for that season, all of the tracks are pretty accurate. As far as graphics go, this game does a decent job with the resources the ps2 has. Although you will get the eventual lag when there are a lot of cars in front of you, the game plays really smooth. In this game you can change the set up of the car to some extent, tires, wing, brakes, etc. One of the things I did not like about this game is that the flags and penalty system seems too technical. For example, if you're going for a chicane, and you underbrake or you get tagged from the back and you go off track you will immediately get a penalty for cutting the track. Also, when there's a yellow flag and someone passes you, for no reason you will get a penalty for passing under yellows. This game is also good for beginners, because you can turn on a bunch of aids including braking, turning, and turn assists. You can also turn off damage, flags, and other rules. This game may not be the best f1 game out there, but it is the best thing we can get right now for the ps2, unless you can get your hands on a european copy I truly recommend getting a copy of this game.
Good game, I have been Formula 1 fans since little. This game is just fantasic. This is slightly better than F1 2001 because it adds the slip stream and new type of license challenge. So, it is a great game.
This is a totally awesome game. I don't even know where to start. First of all, the graphics are really great. The scenery is awesome, just like everything else on the screen in front of you.

Also, there is a Normal Mode for gamers that don't really know all the specifics of an F1 car (i.e. tire psi, brake adjustments, etc.). Then, there is Simulation mode that gives you a real overall grasp of true F1.

I have been an F1 fan for years, and I have to say, this game fulfills any desire I have for F1 at any given time.

I held back one star, for the same reason I would hold back a star for every version of F1 going back to the N64 and PS. Challange mode and customizable drivers/teams and advancements.

Graphics, game play, feel and the overall experience is great in F1 2002. It's like going from the stands into the car! But to understand why I only gave this game 4 stars, we have to go back to 1989 (?) I think, and Formula One by Sega for the Genesis. For F1 fans of the time (and there weren't many in the states) this game had everything, even graphics for period. But the thing I liked the best was I could put my own name in the game, creating a new driver (me) and start out at the bottom (C class on team Sauber). To work your way up to the cream of the crop ("A" class with Williams etc.) you had to win races. When you gained a certain number points in the standings, better teams would lure you away, offering you a chance to race for them in higher classes and better cars. After you won it all in the first season and thought you had the game down, season 2 came along and kicked your arse! When you start season two, the first race, you find that the guy who finished 2nd in the first season really has a chubby on to beat you. Basically, the game difficulty went up a notch after you beat it the first time.

EA, PLEASE PLAY THAT OLD SEGA GAME AND BRING BACK THOSE GREAT FEATURES. Anyway, F1 2002 is recomended for hard core and leisure F1 fans alike, with arcade or true simulation modes available. Try running a full race (meaning the actual number of laps in a real race), in full sim mode. You'll be putting band-aids on thumbs for padding to play anything after that. I especially like the fact that FIA rules can be turned on and enforced. One of my favorite and dissapointing moments was winning the Brazilian GP, with full laps on, only to find out I was DQ'd at the end of the race for passing off the track and really didn't win. One last suggestion, FIA rules are not included in the manuel, so you should look at them on-line or at the book store so you fully understand them before you turn them on.
I like the game but you can not create your own car. I like the tracks and the 3-D replays and the crashis on the game I gave this game 5 stars.
This is the first game to feature the 2002 Formula One World Championship and your first chance to compete for the 2002 Formula One crown.F1 2002includes the new racing teams--Toyota F1 and Renault F1. You can compete for, unlock, and collect Formula One team-specific cards to win unique rewards and access new game modes. Building on the challenge mode fromF1 2001, the game now lets you set multicar challenges in which you compete against the star drivers from the Formula One grid, or enter into a team dual and test your driver skills against an opponent in an equally competitive machine. Use the all-new Slingshot Bar to slipstream opponents and pull off high-intensity passing maneuvers. Enjoy watching "hero shots" and other race-breaking moments from multiple camera angles.

(Race through a career, awesome)

(Not that evolved.)

(ITS A GAME!!!!!!!!)

(Robert Scott Brimer is dumb.)

(The WORST F1 game by Ea)
Way to go, I finally find a game like NFS that you can race on your own as your career. I played it and it was thrilling. The graphics, game, cars, handling and others are also perfect. Support F1, buy it or you will be sorry.
I came to this game after a long drought from F-1 on the Playstation, since I used to have a PS1 Formula 1 game in the late 90's, I believe by Psygnosis. I picked F1 Career Challenge for PS2 up at half price, and while it's fun, I feel rather disappointed. I'm a little surprised if this is an official F-1 game. It definitely doesn't feel as sophisticated as I'd expect, 5 or 6 years after the last F-1 game I owned.

Some observations after a couple days with it:

The primary draw of this F-1 game over others is its basis on a career. You start as a rookie, and hopefully work your way up to the top tier teams. It's something I haven't seen since an old Ayrton Senna game for Sega I had. Very fun.

That being said, however, the racing feel is a little lacking. First thing I noticed is that the cars seem way too prone to sliding and skidding. Regardless of technique, touching the brakes almost always results in squealing and smoke. In regards to handling, sure I would expect tyre adhesion to be a delicate issue at speed, but even running slow, with partial throttle, it would get squirelly. I even had it spin out on me under 60mph a couple times. With that much rubber, the cars should behave a little stickier. And a big annoyance... every time I steer, it seems to lift off on the throttle. Was that a function of Traction Control, I don't know, but if so, where's the option to turn off the TC.

Usually, as software develops, more features are woven in. This title seems like it's been abstracted instead. In a great racing game, for example, armchair drivers want to see lots of useful data. Speed and tach... all this game shows is in a small digital readout in the upper right. A string of lap times and intervals would be a reasonable expectation, so you can tell if you're improving on your times, or how you're spaced from the guys ahead and behind. The old PS1 F-1 '97 (I think it was '97) had great, Speed Channel style timing graphics. Career Challenge seems a bit short on the timing data.

As for tuning, the options seem really simplified. Same goes for the racing. The races seem to be preset lengths of about 8 laps, and the team picks your pit strategy for you, i.e. pit on lap 5. I'd much rather see the old '97 mode, where you can pick your race length, how much fuel you want to take, tyre choices, etc, so you can make your own plan, and if you tyres are holding out, you can just go for it. Damage modelling seems a little strange too. I see other cars losing wings, etc, and breaking down on the track, but I can smack a wall at over 100mph, and just keep going.

Qualifiying is a bit disappointing. They start you out in the middle of a hot lap, and stop you when you finish the lap, and you can do that 3 times. I much prefer to just let me go out and run sequential hot laps without interruption. (Much better way to get in the groove, I feel.) The only plus is that they actually do let you make tuning adjustments in the pits between runs.

And while I will say the graphics look great, some of the tracks seem a little flatter (less elevation difference) than I expect.

One last gripe... ready to start a race, cars lined up on the grid, crowd roaring, red lights coming on before the start... and you can't even rev the engine up. The engine won't throttle up until the race starts. For anyone who loves F-1 or has ever even seen a start, that just does not feel right at all.

That kind of sums it up. F1 Career Challenge satisfied my F-1 thirst a bit, especially since I paid half price, but overall, it fails to feel right when you're at the controls.

(I continue to wish that the Gran Turismo gang would get an FIA contract.)

HELLO0000!!!EVERYONE HERE IS LIKE DYING TO BECOME A FORMULA 1 DRIVER, EVERYONES SOOOOOO INTERESTED IN BECOMING ONE, DESPERATE OR SOMETHING, TRYING TO SMART YOUR ASS THROUGH SET UPS AND AND WING ELEMENTS AND ALL THAT F1 STUFF. (The only Formula One game that you'll find for Xbox)

(Excellent F1 Simulation)

(Ok)

(THE GREATEST RACING GAME EVER)

(Attention to detail lacking...)
I was recently upset when I heard the news that Sony bought exclusive rights to making games for their Playstation consoles. That means that if you love F1 and own an Xbox like me then you're screwed for years to come. But there's some good news. In 2001 EA Sports made an F1 game for the Xbox and it looks like it will probably be their last. If you want an F1 game for The Xbox then get this soon because it's getting harder and harder to get.

As for the game itself I must say that I was very very satisfied. In fact I was impressed. Even though the game is almost 3 years old the graphics are very nice. The physics and handling of the cars are very realistic. Just like a real F1 car the cars in the game are very twitchy and nimble unlike those 3,500lb tanks in NASCAR Thunder. I like how you can select between normal and simulation handling mode. In normal handling the car is very easy to drive which means you don't deal with understeer or oversteer in the corners and you don't deal with wheelspin. Turn on simulation mode and it's a different story. The car's physics and handling in simulation mode become very realistic and challenging.

The sound in the game is good. They did a good job of replicating the intense sound of an F1 engine allthough missing is the high pitch scream that the cars achieve at high speeds. I have Colin Mcrae 3 and NASCAR Thunder and this ranks up there as one of the top racing games for The Xbox. If you love F1 or open wheel racing then get this game. Don't even bother with that Indycar game.
All in all I found this to be an excellent F1 simulation. The XBox controller provides smooth control, with the right trigger as the throttle, the left trigger the brake, and the left analog stick for steering.

Players can choose from all 23 tracks and all the 2001 drivers.

The casual gamer can turn off damage and drive in "Normal" mode; the biggest challenge is to stay on the track. More advanced drivers can add whatever degree of realism they like, including damage, fuel usage, tire wear and penalties. The cars can be tweaked before each race; some of the settings include gear ratios (pre-set and custom), front and rear wing angle, tire pressure and type, and so on.
Pretty nice game, but i think the crashes could be more realistic.
If you are a F1 fan this is the game for you. I have played many racing games in my time and this is by far the best one out there.
Don't get me wrong, this is not a bad game. Just seems to be one of those EA Sports games that (lately) seem to have become solid performers, but are not ahead of the curve anymore.
The main problem with this game is its attention to details (or lack thereof). I generally like my racing games as realistic as possible. So I enjoy racing with the FIA rules turned on, and the lick. Unfortunately, in this game, this simply is a pain. Example: You collide with one of your oponents, pushing him of his ideal line (so he at least touches the grass). This means that immediately, yellow flags are shown. That's fine with me, except that that there is a chance to now be ahead of the car you collided with (particularily if the collision was bad enough to cause the other car to stop) and that's passing under yellow, which gets you a 10 second stop-and-go penalty. Huh?!? Am I supposed to stop behind that other car?!?

Another problem is the pit-crew. Let's say you planned your pit stop just a bit past halfway. It then begins to rain just short of that (which, BTW, it does way to often... several times during every race if whether is turned on, what's up with that?!?), so you have to enter the pits to get new tires. While you are at it, you can also indicate that you want to make the remainder of the race your last stint. But for some reason, the pit-crew forgets to give you enough fuel, so you run out on the last lap. Makes you wonder why you told them you didn't intend to stop again...
The pit-crew instructions also are bad. Example: They tell you to come into the pits at the very last lap. Duh! Or let's say you are just shy of being lapped when someone else wins the race. Of course, this puts the winner right behind you. In that case the pit crew will radio you that Xxx is pushing hard and is coming up along side while he is maintaining position. Hu? I thought he already won?!?

Graphics would have been considered cool a little while back, but the xbox can certainly do much better. C'mon EA, go the extra mile and fix these things! A little more attention to detail, a little better AI and a smarter pit crew, and this would be an awesome game!
F1 2001takes you into a living, breathing Formula One world. Feel the anticipation during the buildup to the race as team personnel and engineers buzz around the grid. Race against opponents who want to win as badly as you do. Every driver on the track will fight, battle, and react to maintain his current position while constantly looking for the next opportunity to overtake you, creating a high-pressure racing experience.

Weather conditions heighten the experience. Watch the rain clouds swell in the sky above you, see the umbrellas go up, listen to your pit crew's weather updates on the radio, and then, as the heavens open, catch sight of your opponents spinning off the track, crashing into barriers or rushing towards the pits to switch tires and change strategy. You will hear intelligent pit communication from your race engineer, with weather and pit-stop predictions, plus advice on how these things will affect the race. If pit skills are honed, valuable seconds can be saved; if they are not, seconds will be lost. You can turn on the simulation mode and feel the car's handling change to a simulation style, pushing your ability to the limit. Or you can jump into the cockpit for the driver's-eye view and see the wheel wrestling around corners, the gears changing, and the driver gesturing out of frustration, anger, and elation.

(Does anyone know where I can download the patch?)

(Need to be quick to race against the pros.)

(Great F1 racing game!)

(Fun Simulation, Great Value)

(Worth it!)
I just got this game, but it crashes so much it's almost unplayable, I have heard there was a patch released that fixes the problems, can anyone let me know where to find it? Thanks
This game is XP compatible as stated in the game's install guide. Anyways, you can forget winning any races with an automatic tranny unless you are using the beginner level. The game has scalable realism so u can have antilock brake and steering assist even if it's not available in real life. The force feedback adds an awesome component to any driving game. Use the default setting or tweak your ride to get an edge in pursuit of the checker flag. 17 race tracks all over the world with variable weather just like in real life. Save your video replays and show your friends how you became champ. Or race against your friends over the LAN or net in multiplay. Very entertaining.

This game is one of the best racing game I have ever played. It is very addicting and it has all the good stuff. I played this game over and over for about a year now and I'm still not tired of it. This game is great. The graphics are tremendous, the controls are easy, and the sound is pretty good. I think the best part about this game is the mods. I only have one of the mod, but that's the only one that I play. I don't even play the F1 2002, I play the mod. The game itself is super good, but if there is mod for it, that means this game is a must have. Also, you don't need a fancy computer to run this game. The system requirement is small and this game is amazingly FUN! I gaurantee you that you will have fun with this game. This is one of the best racing sim if not the BEST. So get this game right now!
This is the F1 2002 version of the game which I purchased in July. EA has recently come out with a new 99-02 version of the game which according to many is not a huge improvement. The 2002 version of the game is well supported, has LOTS of mods (ability to load differnt cars, tracks, adjust physics, etc) and has set the benchmark for F1 racing sims. Oh, and its 13 bucks. The 99-02 version will probably become the eventual standard and I may switch at some point in the future.

I am not a big gamer, but years ago enjoyed Need for Speed 2. I spent long hours perfecting my skills and I set an online world record for some of the tracks. If you are the kind of person who likes to squeeze every last bit of performance out of your car and seek the best times, this is the ultimate game. It is more of a simulation than an arcade game, but it is playable and very fun once you learn car control.

I have a background in SCCA autocross racing so I know a little bit about racing physics. The physics engine is truly realistic. When you take a turn too fast, you will push and scrub off speed. Trail braking works as expected to lighten the back of the car and help rotate. The traction circle seems to be in force and the condition of the track and your tires effect your stickiness. Trade a pair of warm tires for some new cold ones in the pit and you will feel mildly reduceed handling. Weather effects the surface and overall traction is depicted accurately. Cars travelling on the ilne reduce moisture so that on wet trrack days your trtaction is best on the line. An impressive visual and physical experience! Track gradiations effect your traction and there are some off-camber and downhill turns that act as would be expected. While you cant necessarily "feel" what the car is doing, it will sometimes squirm when it is lightened and reacts realistically to over-ambitious inputs. The sensation of drifting is there and also pushing and scrubbing off speed is accurately depicted. I have only been driving one car and havent experienced oversteer excecpt after trail braking (havent gotten this down yet) Even though I cant feel the car, I know what it is doing. I've never driven an F1 car (and probably never will), but this simulation acts the way I would expect an F1 car to act based on what I know.

On the down side, because you are racing on a computer screen, it is difficult to look ahead because your field of view is limited and (depending on your resolutions), items in your direct field arent discernable until they are too close. This means that alot of doing well on a track is a process of remembering the trrack and what is coming -- you cant always rely on visuals alone. For instance, it is hard to see a decreasing radius turn. For that matter, it is difficult to discern the radius of many turns because the whole turn is not on screen. I wonder if I had a better graphics card if this would help a little bit.

There is no outrageous throttle steer like arcade driving games. No jumps. If your expectation is to race like the dukes of hazzard, you will be disappointed. However, because this is an F1 simulation, it has a definite feeling of speed and requires lighting quick reflexes.

The grgaphics are FANTASTIC and approach photorealism. My graphics card is several years old (1.4 AMD + Radeon VE dual head) but handles everything well. The only problem is at the beginning of the race when the full grid is on screen, the refresh rate drops. I havent experimented with lowering resolution to fix this problem. Sound is also excellent.

I am not an F1 or racing fan, but this game is making me one. I was watching speed vision and I chuckled when I saw that F1 2002 uses the same on-screen timing/position graphics and car cams as speedvision does.

Car set-up is highly adjustable although I havent used this feature yet. There is a driving school mode which teaches you the best line for certain tracks as well as accel, braking points. Very fun!

There is online play (which from what I understand requires a fast server with HUGE bandwidth), but for hot lap competitions, go to www.findthelimit.com. There is a telemetry program that allows you to upload your races to their server. So while you are not competing in races with other players directly, it is very competitive and there is an elaborate scoring system. You too can vie for the world championship.

It seems that this program and perhaps F1 racing in general is more popular in Europe.

I first tried using this game with a joystick but then went out and bought a USB steering wheel (Logitech Wingman GP). The wheel is necessary to do well. (and cost 3 times as much as the game!)

Highly recommended!
What a great formula sim. The real treat of this game are the free mods that give you way more replay value than you could have imagined. How does adding GTA3 cars and tracks sound? Grab it and look up the mods. You won't be disappointed if you're a racing fan.

(F1 Challenge 99-02)

(Great Game... but what's with the price gouging???)

(Prolly the best modern F1 sim on the PC)

(EA Sports F1 Challenge '99--'02 review)

(The best F1 racing game ever!)
F1 Challenge 99-02 is the LAST F1 game to be released for the American use, and I say...it's the best.

With over 22 drivers on one track, the tons of mods and upgrades, and speeds as high as 240 mph, this game, no, racing simulation is absolutely astonishing. People who say the graphics are horrible have a crummy graphics card, because I have a NVIDIA FX 5700, and it runs excellent and looks excellent on my PC.

Overall, despite the insane prices posted here, you can find this game for tons cheaper elsewhere. I got mine for $5.00 at a local discount game store. Since then, every F1 grand prix, I drive it and race on it.

This is getting crazy... this title and Nascar Racing 2003 have just skyrocketed in price... for USED COPIES!

It was only a few months ago you could get these titles for less than $10 bucks shipped.

These two games are known for their great mods, but pricing like this makes it impossible for new players to experience the fun, or for veteran players to get another copy when their current game CD goes bad... I had to look twice -- $149 for a game?????

Thanks tons for your greediness, pcgames-replay. It's just a game -- not precious metals.

Despite the title, it's not great, it's simply good. The 5 stars comes from the great mods that are out and are coming for the game, a 4 if judging by the title alone.

First off, the Amazon write-up looks like it's for the console version. There is no 4-season-long campaign mode for the PC.

Now, onto the game. The sim mode has improved over F12002, though it's more of an evolutionary rather than revolutionary step. The graphics are well done, as are the tracks, though none of them seem to reflect the bumps an actual circuit has. The tire models have improved, though unless you get adventurous with your setups, don't try to hit the curbs through corners, you're almost doomed to spin. Multiplayer still lags far behind the standards set by Papyrus, you'll be lucky to get more than 6-7 cars in a race without massive lag. Like I said, it's improved over F12002, and I still think it's the best F1 sim on the PC market, but it's not quite perfect.

That being said, ISI did one thing very right: they made it very extendable. There are numerous mods available, from Group C Prototypes, ETCC, Australian V8 Supercar, BMW M3 Challenge, and others, as well as an upcoming ALMS mod that is shaping up nicely. There is also a 2003 season available, and while the single-lap qualifying is a bit of a hack (set the lap limit for qualifying to 3 laps, so you only get one flying lap, though without parc ferme, you can get away with low fuel loads and different tires/wing/suspension settings). A 2004 season is reportedly in the works as well.

It's well worth the price, assuming you can actually find a copy, as they seem to be few and far between these days (thanks again, EA). It works fantastically with my MOMO Force, and there's still something really fun about running a number of laps on an RL race weekend to get familiar with the tracks and know the trouble spots before you watch on TV. No Bahrain or Shanghai, but the rest are all there.

If you must have an F1 sim, this is the one to buy. For mods, this is also the one to buy. If you need to have the greatest sim on the market, stick with Grand Prix Legends for now, and GTR when it comes out, assuming it's as good as the demo makes it seem like it will be.

After reading the positive reviews I thought I would give this one a try. This game sucks. It does not even come close to Sierra's Nascar 2003.(which is awesome) The graphics are poor, and the whole feel of it is very low grade. I do not recommend this game even if you get it for half price. Total waste of money!
This game rocks. This is the best of F1 series and I think it was the last F1 game with EA. It has great graphics, good sound, and nice cars. There are also mods for this game and they are even better. I always play the mods now. But the game itself is very good. There are plenty of cars, there areplenty of tracks, and there are few different camera angles. I like the 3rd first person view. You don't need super great computer for this game so you should get this game. My recommendation is only Pentium III 500 or higher, 128MB ram, and at least about Nvidia TNT2 16MB, Radeon 7000 or higher. This game should work on all decent computers. This game also has great multiplayer mode. I think this game is a must buy and the mods are definetly worth it for free too.

(Quite A Good Racer for Now)

(not the best f1 game)

(Stop, wait for 2002)

(Stop, wait for 2002)

(Keeps Getting Better)
I must admit I have not tried any of the other F1 games for PS2, so I can't compare. However, I found this particular title near perfect for what it is. Most F1 fans would likely disapprove of the extra challenge modes as they don't really figure into the scheme of racing for the championship. They are more like practice sessions with competitors and goals like teammate challenge where you finish in a position ahead of your teammate. For those of us who are not experienced F1 players to start with, this allows us to break into racing without having to slug it out for untold seasons without seeing any wins. Patience and practice is key to getting anywhere in championship or single race for that matter as the controls without a wheel is a bit wicked at first, but not impossible to learn. If you take the corners slow and memorize and anticipate the course and know how to turn into a corner and stay on the pavement, you will notice your laptimes will steadily drop.

I really like the flexibility in the rules and the way the game is played allowing for automatic transmission and many other assists as well as settings for automatic or interative pitstops. With so many options, one can pick up a skill at a time until you master racing in the game's purest form. Graphics are very nice. If you drive as Montoya in the car camera mode, it's tough to keep your eyes on the track as the reflections from his helmet are worth more than a glance. Sound seems to be good and the A.I. is quite fast. One problem I do experience is the way some of the competitors drive. Occasionally I will see a car ahead of me take on an erratic line or hit the breaks on an open stretch without anyone else nearby. I assume he must be trying to block my advance or the A.I. is confused. I'm not sure which, but it has caused some unnecessary disasters that can be annoying to have happen without warning. Luckily it doesn't happen often and the competitors do fan out pretty evenly.

F1 needs a serious upgrade to the current schedule of venues, drivers, and car design. Until that time, this is as good as a substitute as any.

i was hoping this game would be better than it was , i have played f1 games on the psx-1 that were better, maybe they did not look as good , but the car physics were a lot better, the gran prix cars on gran turismo 3 make these cars look bad, i hope EA sports do a better job on the next f1 game they produce, i took a chance on this game and i am dissapointed,
First of all, I would like to tell you that I have been using Formula One racing games for many years and I'm also an avid F1 fan. Before buying this game I used to play on my PC Infrogame's Grand Prix 3.GP3 is real, fun, and great looking with the best game play I have experienced. I decided to give my PC a break and bought a PS2 so I could use my PC only for work matters.I wanted to keep on "racing" so I bought EA's F1 2001. Now let me tell you what I found, EA's Formula One 2001 is totally a let down for any real F1 fan. The game play is horrible. The car feels too sensitive to drive with the PS2 controls so keeping the car on track is as impossible as a Minardi winning a race this season. Another let down for this game is the physics engine. It is really funny the way cars "fly" after being involved in crashes, it just does not look or feel real. I give it two stars only because of its nice graphic detail and pit action.
I just wish EA Sports and Infrogames would join forces to make the perfect F1 game, because at the moment we only have to settle for this [bad] excuse for a Formula One simulation. Meanwhile, I keep on "racing" on my PC using an 2002 updated version of the greatest F1 game ever, Grand Prix 3.

EA Sports did a great job with this version. Better AI, Better Physics, better graphics.

What more could an F-1 Fan ask for.

I can hardly wait for the next version!!

Good Job EA Sports!!!

(This is a car enthusiasts dream)

(Intriguing teaser for the full version, but not w/o its issues)

(Not what I hoped it to be....)

(Great graphics, poor race car dynamics)

(Rip off)
This racing sim is increadibly realistic and the closest thing to purchasing the vehicles in this game. That being said they handle like the real thing too, so expect a challange. It may be too challanging for some casual gamers. The best racing game on the market by far.
As others have said, it's a gorgeous looking game. The HD graphics are as sweet as it comes, and the look makes the virtual driving experience quite seductive. In addition the game's physics modeling feels good and convincing, particularly with the Logitech Driving Force GT wheel designed specifically for Gran Turismo 5. For a 'prologue' title there's a fairly nice array of vehicles for the gamer to sample and drive. On the surface there's a lot to like about GT5P.

That said, as a prologue sampler it's not surprising that it's not at all perfect...not by a long shot. You start with a tidy sum of credits to buy a car to start racing with. There are three base skill tiers made up of ten races each where each race is considered successfully completed when the gamer has achieved a podium finish (1st, 2nd or 3rd place). Credit awards are earned based on race results, and are to be used to purchase additional cars as needed for subsequent specific races, or just for the heck of it because you just want to try them. Once the ten races of a tier are successfully completed the next tier above is unlocked and its races are available for the gamer to run. Once all of the three lower tiers are completed, a special bonus tier is unlocked. All fairly basic in principle and execution.

There are only six venues to run on, and all are tarmac courses; in reality it seems a bit shorted even at the original $40 retail price. While each circuit provides two configuration variations, it's hardly anything compelling to be considered diverse and enticing enough for repeated game play while waiting for the full version of GT5 to arrive. The AI of the computer-controlled cars is disappointingly predictable and rather monotonous, further degrading gameplay. As with past GT titles, accident damage is not present for any amount of contact; instead, for the early and easiest rounds you can drive rather maniacally and get away with it. After one has firmly developed some rather nasty driving habits, the developers toss in a curve for the final 'bonus' tier races, relying on using a rather unsatisfactory system of penalty time that's assessed immediately after the act of infraction by the game player, though conversely not applied to the computer-controlled opponents, which at least initially makes for considerable frustration (at the perceived "unfairness" of it all).

But this frustration eventually passes; even the penalty assessments become oh-so-predictable; it's easy to figure out just how much contact, rough driving or cutting corner apexes I can get away with without invoking a penalty, and actually use this to my advantage. There are even times where it's actually less costly (in terms of gaining track position) to roughhouse it and take a penalty through a section of a race course than to properly slow down and drive through at the rear of the procession of cars. Again, it's not a very satisfactory solution, nor is it very realistic. Evidently it seems, in their real-life research the game's developers--Polyphony Digital--never watched a Porsche SuperCup race (then again, there are no Porsches in GT5P, either)...where there the real-life racing takes the meaning of "incidental contact" to a whole new level of appreciation (and battle damage).

For all of its self-insinuation that GT5P is more simulation than game, despite all 'official' disclaimers to the contrary, this title is still very much a 'game' in its construct and execution. From the single-file flying starts to the too-short race lengths to the too-small field sizes (for any given track) to the fact that it's even easy to successfully score a podium finish with the PS3's basic handheld controller, each 'race' feels more like a training exercise to be mastered than a convincing, realistic car racing event. And it's here where at least for me I have to wonder at just how good the full game will honestly be when it finally arrives.

But at least it'll sure looks pretty...

The game is fun to play but it only has four tracks. WTF? the selection of cars is pretty good, but you can't modify them and when you want to race with a friend YOU CAN ONLY USE THE CAR YOU'VE PURCHASED! The people at gran turismo have really messed up on this one.
First, the graphics on my 52" 1080p Sony are beautiful. It is quite enjoyable to watch a full race replay, almost as if watching a real race on TV.

Game dynamics leave a lot to be desired. I raced several classes of REAL race cars for many years, including SCCA GT and Formula car classes, winning 4 yearly Regional Championships in the process. Thus, I do have quite a bit of real experience in race car dynamics.

I'm using the Logitech Driving Force GT Racing Wheel with the game. The wheel is far too jumpy and sensitive to steering inputs. For new players it is very difficult to simply keep a car going in a straight line. Real race car steering is far more stable and predictable than this simulator wheel.

As other reviewers stated some of the Class challenges are nearly impossible to complete. The one that comes in mind is where you have to place in the top 3 at the Daytona road course, driving a Ferrari, starting in last place. In real life that task would be flatly impossible and in this game it is nearly so. Very frustrating. You basically have to crash your way to the front.

Many of the high powered cars are nearly impossible to control. Yes, you need "feather control" of the accelerator in real high powered race cars but, this game is ridiculous in that respect. Cars, like the Ford GT, are nearly impossible to keep on the track, making it feel like you're driving on ice, rather than on a high traction pavement. The handling has very little resemblance to real race car handling.

I don't know where the game developers get the idea that race cars that run off the track into the dirt/grass, right in front of you without loosing speed or position and would be capable of coming right back and actually pass you in the grass/dirt? That is absurd. I don't know why the developers found it necessary to have cars, even in the higher skill classes, swing side to side in front of you, as some serious drunks, as you're about to pass them? No racer would ever do that, if for no other reason that it is prohibited by all known racing bodies.

Altogether, the fantastic graphics make this game a worthwhile entertainment but, the car dynamics are way too flawed and fake. It has very little resemblance to real race car driving. I hope the full edition will improve on those dynamics to make this game really good.

This game is way too expensive considering it is not the complete game. I ordered it for my husband not knowing what Prologue meant and boy did I regret it. Well we are stuck with it now and will probably trade it in for a different game.

(Formula 1 Ultimate Car Race Game)
when it comes to f1 games this is the best you can find out side of ps3. i haven't been able to put this down in days. it have every car from the 06 season, works great on american psp's and even has the 3 stage quialifing. the brake assit is kind of over powering but its fair and does not start earily than you would with it off. load times suck but there few and far between since it loads the whole race weekend. if you like f1 this is a game to get!
This a a very exciting game, you can spend hours becoming a F1 experienced Pilot. You will need to purchase an extra battery for your PSP, once you get into this game you can't stop playing with it.

Excellent game, graphics at top. You can enjoy all F1 season with your favorite driver. Maybe could be better if set up tools were flexible and charge time faster.
Formula One 06 on is all about speed, competition and fast-paced action. If you're a novice, switch on the improved driver and racing aids to race for fun, or turn them off for a full length Grand Prix experience if you're a Formula One professional. Formula One 06 features the ability to Network Play between PlayStation 2 and PSP. This means players can now compete online across platforms to see who the fastest Formula One 06 racer is. In other words, if you own the PlayStation 2 version of the game and your friend owns the PSP version, you can still compete on the same circuit! For the first time, the experienced Studio Liverpool development team has been hard at work on both titles, to ensure the 2006 games remain innovative and fresh. Brand new features include: Accessibility: Thanks to new racing aids, any gamer can pick-up and play Formula One 06 and enjoy the exhilaration of driving a Formula One car. Equally, if you're a confirmed F1 driver, you can scale the gameplay to make it more simulation oriented. Either way, you will have access to a Tips and Learning Centre to constantly improve your racing skillsOnline Play: You can now race online in a complete 18-race season! Relive the excitement and the competition of a full championship season. Winning it will make it even more satisfying! Cross Platform: Race online between all PlayStation platforms! Realism: Race in this year's championship with all the 2006 drivers, cars, teams, circuits and rules! The PSP version takes advantage of Infrastructure Mode allowing you to race online, a first for Formula One on PSP. So... take a seat, put on your racing gloves and get ready to experience the action-packed racing fun that is Formula One 06 on PSP.
