(Enjoy fishing for this one!)
『This is a lovely well-done excellent recording that you will really enjoy...Mark Fisher and Mark Lawson are both professional and polished performers!』

(Very Nice)
『Eufish is an excellent album. Mark Fisher plays the euphonium superb and it sounds wonderful. Only one thing I don't like... the movements should've been recorded separately for each track in the continuo in F minor instead of cutting it into tracks. I liked some movements better than others :D.
Aside from that, very nice.』

(BRAVO to the River City Duo)
『This an absolute superb recording. Mark Fisher and Mark Lawson are magnificient. Every track renders a gift for the ears. Smooth, uplifting, and thought provoking. This is worth getting one for yourself and one for every friend you believe has good taste. Enjoy!』

(The perfect match)
『These two childhood friends from State Street in Mason City, IA grew up across the street from each other. Now twenty five years later they are the perfect match in the beautiful album. The CD solution for a soothing drive home.』

(Superb)
『This is a superbly done CD. Pianist and euphonium player work great together. Listen to the nuances in phrasing in the Bach. Pianist is every bit as superb as the euphonium soloist. Bravo!!!』

(well done and enjoyable in more than one sitting)
『This is well played and recorded but I agree with the reviewer that described the programming as dull. It can really wear you out if you try to listen to it in one sitting. These works while good are far from essential as well. Recommended to those with a special interest.』

(Recorder lover)
『I am a recorder lover and i apreciated this album is nice and relaxing and bruggen is same professional has we expect.』

(CD Shuffle Feature a Must with this one)
『You ever wonder where classical music station program directors get music to fill up those last 2 minutes before the news? Well this is one such recording - and 2 minute doses are its optimum listening time.

Brueggen plays wonderfully. He has total command of his instrument: vibrato, dynamics, flying through the vivace passages with nary a misplaced note. The accompaniment is also excellent.

But the programming is just too much. This recording is DULL. After 20 minutes you'll be ready to move on (and I'm a recorder player). The (trio) sonatas definitely hold one's interest longer than the (solo) fantasias, with the continuo to break up the monotony of the recorder passages. My favorite is the Sonata in F Minor. But on the whole, Telemann can't maintain the listener's interest for long.

Hence the title of this review. The recording is fairly cheap and on a multi-CD player it would fit in well with other Baroque works in a shuffle sequence.』

(Majestic Sound, Emphasis on the Strings)
『Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 - 1767): Musique de Table (Banquet Music). Selections. Performed by Musica Antiqua Köln [Cologne] on authentic instruments. Directed by Reinhard Goebel. Recorded in the "Sendesaal" of the Deutschlandfunk [German National Radio] in Cologne, Germany in April and June 1988. This selection published in 1990 as Deutsche Grammophon Archiv 429 774-2. Total playing time: 75 minutes.

In 1988, Reinhard Goebel and his Musica Antiqua Köln recorded the three "productions" of Telemann's "Tafelmusik" (the original title was in French, "Musique de Table") in their entirety using an extended chamber ensemble with flute, two oboes, six violins, two violas, one each of cello and violone and a harpsichord. This recording was published in the form of a 4CD box which has been constantly available since then, unfortunately in the highest price range (Telemann: Tafelmusik (Musique de Table partagée en Trois Productions)). However, Reinhard Goebel soon made this selection available, ensuring that even those who could not or would notspend the not inconsiderable sum required for the full set could at least get a taste of what Musica Antiqua Köln had to offer. Each of Telemann's three "Productions" consists of six pieces: an overture, a "quatuor", a concerto, a trio, a "solo" (with basso continuo) and a "Conclusion" in the samekey as the overture. In order to provide a sound series of selections, Reinhard Goebel has preserved this order here, but taken the pieces from all three "Productions": the Overture, the Quatuor and the Conclusion are from the Third Production, the Concerto and Solo from the Second Production and the Trio is taken from the First Production. The result is not only balanced but also very pleasing to the ear. The fact that Goebel himself is a violinist, coupled with his employment of three violins per part, tends to put the emphasis on the strings rather than the woodwind, but this is not necessarily a disadvantage and I found myself listening with delight, especially to Goebel himself who is a distinguished and extremely elegant player.

In contrast, the 90's recording of the whole work by flautist Konrad Hünteler and his Camerata of the 18th Century (fielding musicians taken from Frans Brüggen's Orchestra of the 18th Century) uses only one player to a part and, consequently, puts the emphasis more on the flute and/or oboe when these are included. Comparing both recordings, I decided that ultimately, I would probably prefer the newer recording by Hünteler, but Goebel (and the excellent Deutsche Grammophon engineering) made the choice extremely difficult. In the end, I suppose, it is a matter of taste. The Goebel sounds a little more majestic, the Hünteler has a clarity which is clear as glass - and his slightly more up-tempo version of the Concerto for Three Violins was what finally persuaded me that if I were allowed to have only one version, it would be the Hünteler (on the German audiophile label MDG). But I cannot imagine that anyone coming to this music for the first time could be anything but enchanted by the Goebel version which deserves five stars just as much as the Hünteler (Telemann: Musique de Table).』

(A truly outstanding recording!)
『I must recommend this incredible recording of Telemann's Tafelmusik. Musica Antiqua Köln's playing is as usual phenomenal! The character of each piece, whether it is an ouverture or a trio, is very clear and convinvincing. The way Goebel brings out the sheer beauty of the ouvertures is striking. This is a must have for the early-music lover. And everybody else too!』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review
(Too polite.)
『All in all, the finest complete recording out there. That said, I nevertheless could wish for a more spirited recording. The Beaux Arts Trio is, to my taste, simply too polite and aristocratic in these recordings, too polished and delicate. On an individual basis, I would instead try out some of the original instrument recordings for their fire and spirit--qualities for which Haydn was famous. The Beaux Arts trio, at least in these recordings, makes just about all of his trios sound like they were written for drawing room entertainment and evening tea parties. On the other hand, I find it hard to come by original instrument recordings that aren't annoyingly squeaky and stringy, drawbacks which the Beaux Arts Trio gratefully dodges by virtue of their overly modern polish.

In this reviewer's opinion, the ideal performance of a haydn trio is yet to be heard.』

(A Parental Recommendation -- charming music for afternnon)
『There is another set released by Philips at 1997 with cheaper price and a load of good reviews from customers. As far as this release concerned, the recording is warm and full body. From Beaux Arts Trio, you can always be grantee the best poetic reading of composition. The chamber music is perfect afternoon/evening selection for toddlers. And this Hayden's piano trio is charming and joyful. A little pricy but worth it!』

("A voice of sanity in a world gone mad")
『That's as close as I can remember the recommendation of this set of recordings, from the Penguin Guide to classical music (ca. 1994). It was perhaps the highest recommendation they gave anything in their ca. 1000 pages. I have listened to the recording many times, and I still think they live up to the review.』

(Highly Transparent Texture)
『Georg Philipp Telemann (1681 - 1767): Musique de Table (Banquet Music). Complete recording with one player to a part on period instruments. Performed by the Camerata des 18. Jahrhunderts (Camerata of the 18th Century - an offshoot of Frans Brüggen's Orchestra of the 18th Century). Recorded 1992/1993 at the Protestant Church in Dortmund-Aplerbeck, Germany. Released in 1994 by Dabringhaus and Grimm. Total playing time: 4 hrs 18 mins.

Telemann's "Tafelmusik" or "Musique de table" (he used the French title when the work was first published in 1733) is one of the great works of the late baroque period, comparable in beauty to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos or Handel's Water Music. Telemann was at the spearhead of musical developments in mid-18th century Germany, combining French, Italian and Polish styles into a pan-European mixed style that was given the somewhat inaccurate title of the "German style"! His "Tafelmusik" was published in an expensive all-subscription edition and eagerly bought up by some of the leading musicians of the day (Handel, Blavet, Quantz etc.). Its three parts combine varying styles, each containing an Overture-Suite (i. e. an overture with a set of dance pieces added), a chamber music "quatuor", a concerto, a "trio" for two instruments and basso continuo, a solo sonata with bass and a "Conclusio" which rounded up the section briefly in the style of the opening Overture. As there are markings of "tutti" and "solo" in some of the pieces, it was long assumed that the music was intended for orchestra, but Konrad Hünteler argues cogently in his notes that in all probability the "Tafelmusik" was to be played under normal circumstances by one player per part, and this is how the music is performed here. This yields a highly transparent texture, something that is on occasion a little disconcerting, especially in the Concerto for Three Violins, which one is used to hearing with orchestral texture. But the brilliant, close-up recording, the lovely, slightly soft sounds of the period instruments and the grandiose playing of the Camerata ensure that the listener is drawn into this lovely music and can forgetprejudice in order to enjoy a musical "feast" indeed. Probably the only viable alternative to this complete production is that by Musica Antiqua Köln, directed by Reinhard Goebel Telemann: Tafelmusik (Musique de Table partagée en Trois Productions), a set which has also received much praise but which is, at the time of writing, considerably more expensive than the newer MDG box.』

(My favorite Musique de Table so far, with great sound and great price)
『At its best, the German label MDG produces recordings with sound quality that buries much of the competition. Good sound does not, however, necessarily come with first rate performances, nor with budget prices.

This release is an exception. It's cheaper than several of the other Musique de Tables, and the performances are fully competitive...in fact, for this listener, preferable to some of the big names. The ensemble is small (it's origins well-detailed in one of the other reviews) and tightly knit, without coming across as mechanical. In fact, there is nothing austere about either the playing or the recording...this is warm, friendly music making.

Though designated by Telemann himself as, well, "dinner music," that should not be seen for a moment as indicating some lack of quality or seriousness of purpose (though I can say that it does work well as described). In fact, Part 1 in particular strikes this listener as some of Telemann's best work--memorable melodies, curious slight twists of harmony, etc. As the liner notes describe, this was music that was designed to appeal to the emotions, while avoiding excess complexity.

If you don't know Telemann's work very well, this is a great place to start. If you're a hi-fi person, and you've found other period instrument recordings to be on the strident side, this set should provide real pleasure.』

(Leading German Baroque flutist expands conducting role)
『Konrad Hünteler is among the most accomplished younger flutists born and bred in the early music circles of Germany and the Netherlands - especially Frans Brüggen's Orchestra of the 18th Century. Since his recording debut with the MGD label in 1996, Hünteler has released a dozen recordings on this labelof Baroque and classical compositions involving the transverse flute. He has also appeared in eclectic recordings such as that of contemporary Baltic composers, Tüür (Estonian), Vasks, and Balakauskas (Latvian)on the Ambitus label. He participated with the late flute master, Jean-Pierre Rampal, ina notable exposition for the Smithsonian's musical instrument collection.

Here Hünteler pursues his growing recording ventures as conductor of the Camerata of the 18th Century in one of the two most famous collections baroque chamber music for diverse instruments, Telemann's Tafelmusik (on 4 CDs).

I earlier preferred baroque music - a favorite with me - performed in "living tradition" style over period instrument style. This was because of what seemed to me dominance of mannerisms and historical correctness over musical expression in "historically informed performance", especially by the Dutch Kuijken-Bylsma-Jaap Schroder, and the Camerata Köln school. But, as noted by author Bernard Sherman in "Inside Early Music" (Oxford, 1997), early music performance has evolved to more emotional, sensitive approaches. So now I am finding exciting nuances and new discoveries among the early music recordings.

Besides superb musicianship, Hünteler's ensemble gives careful attention to Telemann's often surprising turns of harmony, rhythm, and melody. They avoid overkill in soloist volume, so the clever nuances Telemann puts into orchestral parts don't get lost as they do in some of the many recordings of Tafelmusik.

My rating of 4 stars really means very good - although that may imply flawed in comparison with the preponderance of ratings that have five stars. I assume those top ratings come about because people rarely bother to rate music except what they are totally enthusiastic about. Too bad, because for me it's worth hearing about nuances in music performance and peoples' perceptions. The main thing keeping me from five stars is a certain lack of "edge" and boldness in bringing out Telemann's inspiration. Unlike Bach, in which robust melodic lines can work even if played by steam calliopes, Telemann emphasized instrumental tone color, moods, subtle melodies, and surprising twists of harmony and rhythm. In short, Telemann was a (pre)romantic and left much to individual interpretation. This means that the impact of his music can vary tremendously depending on performance.』
