customer 's reviewReturning to the American concert scene after a three-year layoff, the Rolling Stones recorded GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! during a triumphant two-date stand at Madison Square Garden in late November 1969 that found B.B. King and Ike&Tina Turner opening for them. Having amassed an impressive recorded output during their three years away from touring, the Stones peppered their sets with hits, including "Honky Tonk Women," "Jumpin' Jack Flash," and "Street Fighting Man." Tipping their collective hats to Chuck Berry, the band also included covers of "Carol" and "Little Queenie" alongside more blues-influenced numbers such as "Stray Cat Blues" and "Love In Vain."

Having been a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, new guitarist Mick Taylor parlayed his experience into some impressive slide guitar work. The pièce-de-resistance of what is arguably the best live Rolling Stones recording is the eight-minute-plus reading of "Midnight Rambler." Between Mick Jagger's unearthly harmonica playing and the tight interplay between Taylor and Keith Richards, the sinister vibe emanating from this song was eerie, foreshadowing the tragedy that would occur at Altamont less than two weeks later. Observant fans will catch the cover's subtle visual reference to a certain lyric from Bob Dylan's "Visions of Johanna" from BLONDE ON BLONDE.

The first single, "Window Shopper," is a track that exposes the mentality of a rapper who can't afford to buy the things he wants and feels he deserves. It also serves as a focal point for some of the movies most poignant scenes. Earlier, the album track "Hustler's Ambition" was dropped to give people a taste of what to expect from the soundtrack. Its grimy nature takes you back to where it all began, the hungry streets of Queens. DJs across the country are spinning this track uncontrollably in the clubs.

"I created the music for the soundtrack while I was actually filming the movie. I had a studio trailer with me and would record every day between takes," comments 50 Cent. "I keep telling you, I'm the hardest working man alive." 50 Cent executive produced the album. Sha Money XL is co-executive producer with Dr. Dre and Hi-Tek providing further production. Mase, Nate Dogg and newly signed G Unit members Mobb Deep and M.O.P are also featured on the album.

More acoustic and less electric, with more piano and less guitar than previous albums, this 2005 album charted #3, won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album and its 'My Doorbell' was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. On the Modern Rock chart, 'Blue Orchid' hit #1, 'The Denial Twist' #5 and 'My Doorbell' #13.
Their fifth album,Get Behind Me Satanis the strangest and least focused effort by these unlikely garage rock superstars to date. It's also their finest, anExile on Main Street-ish mish-mash where the sum is greater than the parts. In a market increasingly driven by singles and downloads, it's nice to be reminded how exciting an album can be, especially one where you really don't know what to expect next. There are a lot fewer pounding guitars on this album. They've largely been replaced by pounding pianos. Most songs sound like rough mixes at first; almost every song has something exceptionally loud in the mix--the guitar solo in "The Nurse," the drums in "Doorbell," everything in "Blue Orchid." After a few listens, however, it becomes clear that the group is not using the studio as an instrument so much as exposing the nuts and bolts in the process along the way.

There are some duds; the wanky blooze-rawk number "Instinct Blues" goes on way too long and it would be nice if "The Nurse" had a real chorus. Whether "Passive Manipulation" is about the wife-or-sister schtick, if the cover artwork indeed has Jack and Meg calling each other devils, and which scripture is referred to by the album's title (Matthew, Mark or Luke?): none of that matters so much as the fact that this album is strangely sprawling and obliquely ass-kicking at the same time. "Orchid" is arockdiskosonic smash that shows how to really get rock kids on the dancefloor. Meanwhile, "Doorbell" sounds enough like the Jackson Five to totally rule, and "Forever for Her" is the best ballad Jack's written in years. The fact that some marimbas provide the driving force to "Forever" makes it all the better.--Mike McGonigal

customer 's reviewThe 1993 release from the veteran Boston rockers was their fourth for the Geffen Records label and added several singles to their second string of hits that began with 1987's "Permanent Vacation". Thanks to a saavy casting director, the trifecta of promotional videos for the songs "Cryin'", "Amazing" and "Crazy" featured the video debut of Alicia Silverstone, who captured many a young man's fancy with her portrayal of a rebellious chick. In addition, the videos for "Livin' On The Edge", "Eat The Rich" were groundbreaking. This edition includes the bonus track, "Can't Stop Messin'", which does not appear on the US equivalent.

Given the sped-up classic soul samples with which Kanye West has made his mark, it comes as no surprise that the producer/rapper would pick a tradition-minded R&B singer as his first big pet project. Legend first made his name on Philly's incense-clouded, '70s-obsessed neo-soul scene, then found his way to New York and became West's right-hand man in the studio. His patron's pop smarts serve Legend well--while many contemporary R&B records rely too heavily on a singer's cadence and skill to carry underdeveloped tunes, Legend and West have composed genuine songs like the perky "Number One," which has a lovestruck West jabbering that he no longer believes that "my heart don't got nothing to do with my penis." (It's way more convincing than Snoop Dogg's pledge of love on the next track, "I Can Change.") And even when the melodies are slight, West slides some nasty bass lines underneath, hinting at just enough of a hip-hop sensibility to keep the album from drifting into retro nostalgia. Yet Legend is no mere producer's plaything. His voice isn't immediately distinctive; he's neither as careworn as Anthony Hamilton nor as creamy as D'Angelo. But his gift for restraint sets him apart: the sex-as-drug metaphor of the title track is hardly fresh, but Legend delivers it smoothly enough to make it work, without pressing the issue.
