"And the idea that the only chance that this poor guy is ever going to have to get close to the object of his affection is to put her in a song, just struck me. That way he'd be able to take her with him everywhere he goes...day and night."Get Closer follows Urban's Billboard Top 200 Album Chart #1 Defying Gravity, which produced two #1 singles including "Only You Can Love Me This Way" and "Sweet Thing", for which Urban won his third Grammy Award (Best Male Country Vocal Performance). Fast shipping and 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed. Irving Berlin's Wild West Show-themed rompAnnie Get Your Gunhas long been a Broadway evergreen, including a wildly successful modern revival starring Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat. But its original 1950 MGM film translation was fraught with production problems and recasting; Judy Garland was initially signed to star and even recorded her vocal numbers before being dismissed (due largely to her notorious personal problems) and replaced by Betty Hutton. While several of Garland's performances as Annie Oakley have been released on other compilations, this generous, 31-cut release not only marks the CD debut of the film's original soundtrack (originally just eight tracks), it compiles all of the various Garland versions (including the first release of a spectacular stereo Garland version of "There's No Business Like Show Business") onto its second half, essentially re-creating the "Annie that never was," in addition to the first complete release of the Hutton score. Also included is a superbly illustrated and well-annotated booklet that tells the complete story of the show's Broadway origins and rocky journey to Hollywood.--Jerry McCulley Rerations < Annie Get Your Gun: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Re-release of 1950 Film) >

While certain to appeal to his loyal fan base, the album’s artful guitar rock will also entice new fans to Knopfler’s signature sound (he’s #27 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time), instantly recognizable vocals and smart lyrics. A multiple-Grammy winner who has sold more than 110 million albums worldwide, Knopfler remains one of rock’s most admired artists.Mark Knopfler Photos More from Mark Knopfler All the Roadrunning | Shangri-La | The Ragpicker's Dream | Sailing to Philadelphia | Neck and Neck | One Take Radio Sessions [EP] [LIVE] | Real Live Roadrunning (with DVD) [LIVE] | Golden Heart | Screenplaying [SOUNDTRACK] | Private Investigations: The Best of Dire Straits&Mark Knopfler | Night in London (1996) | Ragpicker's Dream [LIMITED EDITION] [ENHANCED] [EXTRA TRACKS] [IMPORT] |
Three decades after Dire Straits broke onto the scene with their remarkable debut, Mark Knopfler remains an iconic figure in popular music, his graceful guitar playing equaled only by his genial baritone and a novelist's ability to create distinct characters and themes in his songs. His fifth solo album since he pulled the plug on the band in 1995,Crimsonreflects on a torrent of narratives, from the gracefully aging spouse in the flute-powered ballad "The Scaffolder's Wife" to the valiant down-and-outer in the Scottish folk song "Heart Full of Holes." Employing accordions, fiddles, and horns as majestic accompaniment, Knopfler drifts into the Celtic-tinged melodies of his past, explicitly in the whiskey-soaked singalong "Secondary Waltz," the busker's saga "Madame Geneva's," and "The Fish and the Bird," with its vagabond pensiveness. Clocking in at just under an hour, the album--without any page-turning epic--plays instead like an anthology of written works, every personification crisp in definition, every story exquisitely told.--Scott Holter Rerations < Kill to Get Crimson >

Elektra. 2003. Sometimes having good, original ideas is the worst thing you can do in rock music. To paraphrase Jim Dickinson on the Beastie Boys, rock and rollistheft, and it's not so much about whether or not one steals but why, how much and how well (i.e. from whom). Riff-heavy in all the right ways, this is a very well-produced retro-rock record with handclaps, catchy choruses, and plenty of attitude. They freely cop from AC/DC, the Stones, the Verve, Oasis, Humble Pie, Aerosmith, Black Crowes, and Mooney Suzuki, and they do it very well. The only problems with the album lie in the words, and in the softer material. Most of the lyrics are so banal ("Now you don't need money with a face like that, do ya") they were seemingly written by some newfangled songwriting program set to "1973." And half the album consists of ballads that are just pretty good: the Oasis-y "Look What You've Done," the Pink Floyd -esque "Timothy" and the Small Faces-ish "Move On.". But it's the mid-to-uptempo stompers that this group excels at.--Mike McGonigal Rerations < Get Born >

Expanded&remastered. 2002. Two years after Petty's debut, another batch of sharp, swaggering rock tunes hit the record stores and paved the path Petty would tread to megastardom. The astonishing greatness of a few tracks seal this record's fate as a classic Petty album: "Listen to Her Heart" continues his tribute to the jangly guitar style of the Byrds; "I Need to Know" nails Petty's plaintive singing style and gut delivery (those muscular guitar lines don't hurt either); "Magnolia" sways pleasantly like a summer afternoon with love in the air; and "Too Much Ain't Enough" further mines the gritty sound of a garage band stretching out. "You're Gonna Get It" and "When the Time Comes" are both above-average rockers, with signature Petty vocals that are by turns threatening and genteel and 12-string guitars chiming with heavenly abandon.--Lorry Fleming Rerations < You're Gonna Get It >
